One of the most interesting ways that Christocentrism rears it’s ugly head is when a Jewish person does something because of our religion and here come all the ex-xtian atheists to say “GOD DOESNT CARE IF YOU EAT PORK” or “YOURE NOT GONNA DIE IF YOU WORK ON SATURDAY”.
Like yeah, no shit. As a Jew I don’t fear god. I don’t think he is gonna impose consequences on me if I break his rules. That’s not how the relationship works.
If I do something because Jewish tradition says to, it’s because I’m honoring my community and keeping my culture alive. God doesn’t really enter the equation. He can have given us a rule, but if you know any Jews you know we have nine to eleven ways of following any rule and it depends on what suits us in the situation.
So if you slip a Jewish person trief to “show them” that nothing bad will happen to them, you are an asshole of the highest order and have fundamentally misunderstood the rule they’re seeking to follow.
Judaism does not include fear of God. It is a partnership with history and community and culture. And god can come, too, if he promises to be cool about it.

I’ve been thinking about this song a lot lately. There’s so much ire about songs by people on both sides of the I/P conflict right now. But I keep coming back to this.
When this song came out, Ireland was steeped in The Troubles. But the conflict was within Ireland. And the beauty of this song was that it honored the dead and condemned violence of all people. And it spoke up for the victims. Regardless of who they were or what side their families were on.
I wish the world could hold Jews and Palestinians in their hearts the same way. I wish we could all mourn together then start healing together too.
Some lines feel like they’re written about us all right now:
But you see / It’s not me / It’s not my family / In your head / In your head / They are fighting
I feel this so deeply. It’s not me or my family. Whoever you’re imagining in your head that is wanting this violence and whoever you are imagining in your head is thrilled to wake up and go to war—that’s not me or my family. That’s not anyone I know. That’s not any Jew I know.
And I know many Muslims and Palestinians feel the same way.
It's the same old theme / since 1916/ In your head, in your head / they're still fightin'
With their tanks and their bombs and their bombs and their guns / In your head / in your head / they are dyin'
This line, to me, makes me think about the people who are fighting and who do want war. The extremists on both sides. They’re not fighting for their people now. Not the ones who are alive. They are fighting to avenge people whose grandparents wronged someone else’s grandparents who wronged their grandparents, etc.
And it’s not that those wrongs are unimportant and shouldn’t be addressed, but no amount of fighting will undo damage that’s already done. “In your head they are dying,” but they aren’t because they’re dead and gone already. And the people you’re hurting now are just going to remember that you’ve hurt them. But you can’t change the past or bring back the dead. They’re not fighting anymore, and we shouldn’t either.
While I understood the emotion of the song, I never really understood the importance of the word zombie in the song before 10/7.
In your head / in your head
Zombie / zombie / zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head / in your head?
Zombie / zombie / zombie-ie-ie-ie…
I get it now. This conflict is like a horde of zombies but they’re all piloted by the zombies in your head. The mutated corpses of the ones who’ve already died at this all-consuming disease of a conflict. And more violence won’t solve anything. All it will do is create more zombies. The only solution is just to stop. We can’t keep sleep waking into killing each other like we’re mindless zombies. It has to end. We have to tell Netanyahu and the Likud and Hamas and Hezbollah all to go fuck themselves because their strategies aren’t solving anything.
We have to stop letting them turn us all into zombies in their heads or their politics will turn us all into corpses in reality.
Choose peace.
Choose life.
Choose a future.

Some points on the Trump/Vance campaign’s immigrant smear. In the Trump campaign thus far, this is a hallmark event which defines the evolution of Trump’s politics.
(1) A conventional campaign would have made this all about immigration policy, but this doesn’t excite Trump’s base, gets bogged down in policy details and is vulnerable to the fact that Trump vetoed the consensus border-bill shepherded by Sen Jim Lankford (R-OK)
(2) Trump and Vance feel that making it racially focused is far more exciting to the base, insuring higher turnout of the core Trump constituency that was “invisible” to pollsters in 2016
(3) Trump/Vance want to provoke the Harris/Walz campaign into labeling this as “racist,” which it plainly is. This is because their base reacts violently to being called “racist.” It would stimulate them to possibly violent conduct (and Trump is clearly okay with that), but also to greater turnout.
(4) This effort draws heavily on techniques that were pioneered by the NSDAP propaganda arm under Joseph Goebbels in the period 1930-38
a. Target specific Volksgemeinschaft (ie, ethnic group). For the Nazis, this was Jews (who were characterized as being alien and vaguely Eastern European), Poles, Gypsies.
b. Talk about them as “vermin” (Volksschädling) as “disease carriers” and as “corrupters of the blood” (Blutschande), and as criminals. They are somehow less than fully human (minderwertiges Menschenmaterial).
c. Insist that they must be extirpated to preserve the honor and blood (Blut und Ehre) of the German race, or as Trump says, to avoid “corrupting the blood”
d. Incitement of mobs to seemingly spontaneous act of violence against the targeted groups (destroying storefronts, breaking windows, threats and intimidation targeting employers, random acts of violence) were characteristic of the Nazi operations. Note that we see every one of these things now happening in Springfield, OH
(5) The example taken from Springfield draws on all these features. Note it is traced to Drake Berentz, a local Neo Nazi well familiar with the German precedents
(6) “They’re eating your dogs, they’re eating your cats” draws on the original Blood Libel (Blutverleumdung) for inspiration, suggests depravity
(7) Note de-locatization. Where is Haiti? Trump suggested in his Palos Verdes remarks that he thought it was in Venezuela (“I’m going to round them up and ship them back to Venezuela”), whereas JD Vance in his remarks suggests somehow they are really from Africa. But where they come from doesn’t really matter; what matters is the color of their skin.
(9) Interesting dynamic between Vance and Trump on all of this. Vance breaks these approaches, tests them, and Trump follows up by backing him up and expanding on them.
(10) Weakness of the Trump/Vance approach. The NSDAP had a centrally managed and implemented plan under which propaganda organs answered to party leadership and targets were carefully selected and times. For Trump/Vance, however, the Lumpen element seems to drive things. It came up with both the Springfield and Aurora claims. Springfield was of course a highly undesirable option because it’s a Republican city in a Republican state. He is implicitly criticizing what the Ohio GOP has done. That creates problems inside Ohio. A more carefully crafted approach would have chosen a Democrat-run city and state for this operation.

It's bloodthirsty genocidal hypocrite "Jews" like you that give the rest of us a bad name. If literal Holocaust survivors are condemning Israel and you're not than you're no better than our ancestors' oppressors
Oh wow- my first openly antisemitic ask (that’s not anonymous) I’m so honored! I would usually be kind when putting ass hats like you in your place but I’m exhausted, now having my first mug of coffee, and I just got done with working a long ‘hell’ shift at work… you’re probably gonna regret poking the wolf and making this post 🙂
- I’m pretty sure other jews on this hell hole of a site have been telling fuckers like you to leave the holocaust survivors alone when it comes to the i/p conflict. Yes they have their own beliefs/opinions/thoughts on the I/p conflict-just like every Jew out there. So for the love of g-d stop bringing the holocaust survivors topic up. Cuz y’all know what? Everyone has their own different opinions/views/ thoughts about the I/p conflict. I’m not gonna talk more about this but if anyone wants to talk about it go for it.
-since you little ass hat decided to bring up the holocaust, let me just tell y’all something. If my great grandparents didn’t escape Germany, they would have been captured and k*lled. But they escaped, sadly my other relatives over there did not leave in time and was sent off to the camps and most of them were k*lled. To this day my mom’s side of the family is still dealing with the trauma that came afterwards.
-I’m assuming you’re an anti Zionist person or you’re masquerading as a Jew. Calling other jews bloodthirsty and genocidal is fucked up and super antisemitic. And the fact that you openly said that was not super smart of you. It makes you look like a fucking fool and an ass. Also saying that I’m no better than our ancestors oppressors? Not really original and that’s also fucked up. Honey let me tell you something- i come from a long line of survivors and fighters. My Israeli and Jewish ancestors/family survived so many horrible massacres/pogroms/displacements/and the Shoah. If they didn’t keep fighting and surviving, none of us would be here. I’m also Native American (not gonna tell you my tribes cuz it’s not your business) but my ancestors/family survived the trail of tears, being slaughtered by colonizers, and being kidnapped and sent to the boarding schools. We fought and survived. Are we still facing the trauma- yes. Trauma that hasn’t been properly handled can really fuck you up and it can be passed down to new generations. It causes so many issues and problems- especially if you ignore the trauma. I’ve seen things that no one should have to see or deal with…so don’t you ever say that I’m like my ancestors oppressors cuz I’ll tell y’all something- I’m making my ancestors oppressors roll in their graves for just being alive, while all my ancestors are cheering me on. Have fun when others call your ass out 🙂
- no you got it wrong. Every Jew has been affected by the i/p conflict in some way. It’s people like you (cuz i really don’t know if you’re Jewish- you claim to be but you’re words says otherwise) that is using this conflict to blame “Zionist” (which let’s be honest y’all- we all know that they use Zionist as a code word for Jews) for everything that’s been happening. Anti Zionist people will parade around and say that they’re the “good jews” and that they’re not the evil ones- it’s those “Zionists” other there that are the evil ones (This type of thinking is really fucked up). Y’all follow the pro Palestine crowd hoping that they won’t think that you’re the “bad guy” and will even participate in antisemitic shit: Harassing random jews in street or online, surrounding synagogues, college campus buildings or hospitals chanting genocidal slogans, etc…but honey let me tell ya something- most of the pro-pal people hates jews. It doesn’t matter if you’re anti Zionist or Zionist. They don’t see the difference. They will continue to blame us for everything. I hate to break it to ya but it’s the truth. We all have been warning y’all but you guys don’t listen.
I said what I said and if you don’t like it well I don’t give a flying fuck 🙂 (I have no more fucks to give)
Am yisrael chai! ✡️

BY EMILY BENEDEK
Bratman teaches his Jewish students to adopt a different approach to the world—one anchored in tradition, learning, and the study of Jewish texts. At the dinner in the 23rd Street synagogue, he invited the students to let him know if they’d like to join him in studying Pirkei Avot in honor of IDF soldiers called up for duty. He also has a club of about 80 boys who are laying tefillin every day.
Bratman told me that, in spite of the recent stresses, he’s not worried about his Jewish students. “Ninety-nine point nine percent of them are rational people who go out and get jobs, they get married and I go to their weddings and brises.”
But there is something terribly wrong with the others, he believes. “A lot of these students, they’re nice, they’re wonderful people, right? But they look at me as a Jew, and say, ‘well, you know, because you’re supportive of this Israel story and Israel narrative, you kind of stand with the oppressor, you know, and I’m Hispanic or Black and I have to stand with the oppressed. Or I’m gay and I have to stand with the oppressed.”
Bratman’s worry is that these students, by adopting a worldview of grievance, are keeping themselves down with imaginary obstacles and denying their own volition. “What they don’t understand is that [these invented obstacles] are all surmountable. It’s my mission to uplift and empower these young people to actually strive for the opportunities that exist and to dispel the false and limiting idea that it’s all impossible.”
Bratman told me he had a student at John Jay whom he will never forget, a student struggling mightily at school. “I had many conversations with him,” Bratman said. “I’d say, ‘come, come on, keep going, keep going.’ And he said, ‘No, I’m thinking of dropping out.’”
“And I’m like, no, no, get through this class. I got you. I got you. And I carried him through this course. And on the last day he came to see me, and he said, ‘I dropped out of all the classes except for yours. Everybody in my family, including my mother and my grandparents—I don’t know my father—my uncles and everybody said, ‘What are you doing? Why are you going to college? You can get a job now for $20 an hour, and when you graduate, you’re gonna get a job for $20 an hour. What’s the purpose?’”
Bratman seemed genuinely sad—not angry or offended, just sad—about what he heard next. “No one ever believed in me,” the student said. “I can’t believe that the first and only person who’s ever believed in me is a white Jew.”

Ivy League in League with Hamas
I hope Columbia students are as dedicated to their studies as they are to LARPing.  I doubt it.  They seem to not know much of anything.  Portraying aggressive foes of Israel confirms such.  Refusing to move from ground that was never theirs shows commitment to the cause.
College brats crave pretending they’re something other than political science majors doomed to beg Joe Biden for debt evasion.  A university that wanted to continue to pretend to be taken seriously would deny outdoor squatters the right to Sha Na Na presale access codes.
Instead, expect a flurry of senior theses based on how leaving plants unwatered in an Amsterdam Avenue apartment for three or four days allowed the non-Israel parts of the Middle East to finally prosper.  This is the school where a showy phony lied about being raped so she’d have an excuse to drag a mattress around campus as a regrettable standard of performance art, which makes today’s showy truancy unsurprising.
Acting violent while pretending to not be reflects a wholesale refusal to interact with reality.  True cosplayers act just like their beloved terror cause.  Man, they are focused on playing along.  Their habit of harassing Jews shows solidarity.  Claiming they were the victims all along is what the keffiyeh represents.
Tom Wolfe’s ghost has never been busier.  Earth’s most entitled brats throwing a tantrum while camping on Manhattan’s Ivy League grounds to show fondness for an invading terror squad means he’s still releasing novels a page at a time as news reports.
A Peoples’ University doesn’t sound quite elite.  Those seizing land are presumably honoring prominent Democratic activist Jim Jones’s naming conventions without realizing it.  Like every other contemptible notion that preening quad radicals believe, the inadvertent hilarity stems from their patent ignorance.  While it’d be nice if they were informed, the rest of us can use the laughs.  What are they supposed to do during college: learn?
The sort of students you’re glad you never drank with get to pretend they’re doing something righteous with a lawn campout.  Guilt over unbelievable privilege leads to fretting about the less fortunate.  Enrolling in a moral vacuum prompts sympathy for terror instead of victims.
Columbia students think The Diary of Anne Frank has a happy ending.  Confused reading list participants know what they would’ve done during World War II, namely defend Normandy from invaders.  The claim that 2020’s city torchers were the equivalent of Allied soldiers got sillier just when you thought that was impossible.
These advanced times sure are unenlightened, at least for those at the costliest and therefore best colleges.  Society regresses without learning from primitive times.  Let’s say there’s precedent involving campus radicals defending terror movements.  Collegiate nitwits once again romanticize ghastly assaults against decent people in respectable societies.  A useful degree would feature learning how many of them are not.
Praising the terror side is how the smuggest brats from your high school class battle for the underprivileged.  Hamas engages in rather intense bullying they’d surely condemn if it involved misgendering.  Total non-anti-Semites just happen to be ganging up on the one Jewish state.  Tormenters get every last detail wrong, including which side features people who want to be left alone.
Students fume about a sliver of land that at its narrowest is smaller than the island upon which Columbia lies is long.  It’s not just the lack of real estate that makes Israel an underdog.
The one Middle East country that would tolerate idling undergraduate uselessness can afford to on account of that whole natural rights bit.  Citizens could claim it was awful without consequence.  Go ahead and hold a pride parade in Tel Aviv.  I’d envision a permit tie-up for anyone trying the same in Gaza. Rather confused observers add exercising the right to self-defense to their appalling list of reasons they loathe Jews.
Idle grifters with student IDs get to pretend they’re standing up for a noble cause.  The side against Israel is way less nicer, and underdevelopment must be the fault of oppression.  That sort of logic is common amongst attendees at more prestigious schools.  Ignoring what happened at the music festival to people about the same age helps maintain consistency.
The Morningside Heights campus of Hamas University is a popular study abroad program.  But enrollees can only harvest so much knowledge.  An internship would help.  They can learn from their heroes.  Columbia campers should transfer to Gaza colleges.  There’s a hospital on every corner, which means there must be at least that many schools.  You know it’s bad when the rest of 2024 New York City seems sane by comparison.
Class is boring.  Learn about the real world out on the Columbia quadrangle.  It sure is fun camping out while shrieking insults at civilization.  Real-world experience is supposed to be school’s goal.  Professional terrorists blaming success is the default Columbia student ideology in practice.  Feeling insulated on campus leads to guilty role play.  Flaunt uselessness in the name of awfulness.  This is the best time to dine at Katz’s, as none of the uneducated students will be there.

NJCS 2024 Round One Eliminated Contestants (Part 2/2)
Lamb Chop Status: Transitive Jew Thank you Shari Lewis for my favorite “THEY’RE JEWISH?” moment of the 2024 bracket! Just check out the holiday specials for Hannukah and Pesach, available for free in full on Youtube. Reason enough to get your dogs some Lamb Chop toys this year, I think.
Betty Boop Status: Practically Canon Jew Boop-oop-de-doop! Betty Boop, our first Black, Jewish, female president. All hail the chief!
Dina (TLoU 2) Status: Canon Jew I feel like I would have been best friends with Dina if we went to Hebrew School together.
Coraline Jones Status: Canon Jew
Tumblr media
Yes, this is an official still from the Coraline movie! She’d already qualify from the transitive property thanks to our good ol’ Tumblr friend Neil Gaiman, but this quantifiable, proof positive evidence of Coraline’s Judaism is really nice to see. Thank you, LAIKA Studios!
Philip J. Fry Status: Coded Jew He’s a man displaced out of time, reunited with his distant descendant in a future New York unfamiliar to him. Sound familiar? And of course, we can’t forget Farnsworth’s iconic moments in the time travel episode “The Late Philip J. Fry”.
Davey Jacobs Status: Canon Jew Dunno what else I can say about this mensch that isn’t mentioned in his character bio from official audition material for the musical… God, I love Newsies.
Tumblr media
“Go and look it up, the poor GUY’S head is spinning!”
Yasmin (Bratz) Status: Transitive Jew Just like Barbie, the Bratz dolls have Jewish roots! Created by Isaac Larian in 2000, and adored by his tween daughter Jasmin, we can extra-hard claim the doll that was named in her honor. Yasmin might not have a specified ethnicity within Bratz canon, but the Sephardic roots of her namesake is proof enough for me. Even her Ken equivalent is textually Jewish (his name’s Eitan!) Just like Barbie, though, it seems this tournament might not be the friendliest environment for the plastic pop culture icons. Don’t worry ladies, I see you!
Paris Geller Status: Canon Jew Textually Jewish, Transitively Jewish (by way of Liza Weil)… she has it all!

Tis the damn season, people! This year at oc-challenges, we’re doing a winter holidays challenge! Challenges are Hanukkah,The Winter Solstice, Christmas, and New Years inspired. @aliverse and @elmunson have teamed up with @victoriapedrcttis and @maddies-buckley to come up with 32 prompts to hopefully inspire and delight you!
RULES
Be respectful and accepting, most holidays have their roots in religion and it’s important to both treat people of any religion with kindness and be sure any depictions of a religion you are not a part of is researched well and done respectfully.
You know the usual, don’t steal edits. If you feel an edit of yours or someone else’s has been stolen and would like to report it, follow these guidelines.
For any crossovers, make sure the other person is okay with crossovers.
Feel free to ask questions, all prompts are open to interpretation!
In order for your post to be included in this blog, it must be tagged with #owhc2022.
And last but certainly not least, have fun!
Challenges under the cut...
EIGHT DAYS OF HANUKKAH For the first eight days, we will be celebrating Hanukkah!
Day One: Soon So Shall It Be By You (December 1st)
In the spirit of OC Challenges, our first challenge is dedicated to Jewish OCs; an ethnoreligious group and nation originating from the Israelites and Hebrews of historical Israel and Judah. Create to your heart's content, and if you don’t have one of your own then feel free to make a new one inspired by this prompt or make something for someone else’s Jewish OC!
Day Two: All of The Honor (December 2nd)
Most winter holidays are about the appreciation of life, family, and friends. Today we’re making something to show an appreciation for someone else. Make something for a Jewish OC creator, let them know that they're loved and cherished.
Day Three: Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah (December 3rd)
Day three is all about the holiday itself! Make or write something nice about your Jewish OC celebrating Hanukkah by themselves, their friends, or family, or even an non Jewish OC celebrating with their Jewish friends or family!
Day Four: A Game of Dreidel (December 4th)
Much like the teetotum, the dreidel is a four sided spinning top toy that bears letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The game has become a famous tradition during Hanukkah, created as a way to help those study the Torah. Show us what your OC’s dreidel would look like or write about your OC playing the game with friends and family!
Day Five: Light The Candles, Count Your Blessings
On the first night of Hanukkah when you light the first candle with the shamash, you recite three blessings. For this day, take a look at what your OC values and the things and people they are thankful then make an edit or write something to highlight those things.
Day Six: In Honor of The Maccabees (December 6th)
The Maccabees were a priestly family of Jews who organized a successful rebellion against the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV and reconsecrated the defiled Temple of Jerusalem. What is something that your oc would die / risk their life for? Have they done it already? Have they lead a rebellion or campaigned for change?
Day Seven: A Great Miracle Happened Here (December 7th)
In the holy temple in Jerusalem, a menorah burned for eight days. It became known as a miracle, giving Jews time to purify and rededicate sacred space. Where did your OCs miracles happen? Is there a place they consider sacred or special? A place that brings them great comfort?
Day Eight: Miracle of Eight Days (December 8th)
A small vial of oil to keep the flames burning for one night somehow miraculously burned the Temple's menorah for eight days during a time of war and prosecution. In that span of time, they were able to make more oil and keep the eternal flame lit. Has your OC ever experienced a miracle, figurative or literal? Has something they needed or loved but expected to abandon them lasted through their worries? Write or edit something about your OC’s personal miracles.
WINTER SOLSTICE Challenges inspired by The Winter Solstice!
Day Nine: Blessed Be (December 9th)
Blessed be our capacity for creativity, creating ocs has made us friends and brightened our darkest days. Today, create something to celebrate a pagan oc.
Day Ten: Brightest Blessings (December 10th)
A good person wishes others only the brightest blessings, and today we are going to give our own blessings. Create something for a pagan oc creator!
Day Eleven: Time of Reflection (December 11th)
One tradition in winter solstice celebrations is to reflect on your past and those in it, for day eleven we are going to look at an oc from long past. Maybe you want to look at your first oc and reflect on how they’ve changed from first draft to final product? Maybe there’s an oc you’ve decided to scrap or finished with that you would like to honor one last time with an edit or drabble?
Day Twelve: Bask in The Evergreens (December 12th)
Evergreens are famous and honored for the exact reason you’d think— they remain lush even in the harshest circumstances. Today is all about forevers. Perhaps you want to honor an oc that remains eternal in your heart or persistent in your mind, maybe even do something as simple as creating something for an immortal oc?
Day Thirteen: Back to Mother Nature (December 13th)
One winter solstice tradition is to give back to nature and the creatures it mothers, some do this by decorating a tree to highlight it’s beauty and some do this by decorating a tree with edible food for animals among other things. For today, honor an oc who loves the natural phenomenons of their world whether that be through a love of nature, nature powers, or care for the animals of the world.
Day Fourteen: All The Pretty Lights (December 14th)
The winter solstice is celebrated on the shortest day and longest night of the year, thus we must find light in different ways. For this day, honor an oc who finds or is the light in the darkest day. Perhaps they are a mirrorball, reflecting all the best parts of others. Perhaps they simply have a talent in keeping hope alive, continuing to show love and optimism through all hardships no matter how hard survival is?
Day Fifteen: May The Flame Warm Our Hearts and Light Our Way (December 15th)
Today is about dedication; to gods and goddesses, those we cherish, our places of worship. For today, perhaps show or tell us how your OC would decorate their Yule alter? Perhaps how they would choose to honor their deities? Maybe show or discuss what gifts they would give to those they cherish?
Day Sixteen: Merry Solstice (December 16th)
It’s time for another celebration, this day is all about the holiday itself! Tell us about how your oc celebrates yule! Do they bake gingerbread, craft wreaths? Do they sit around the bonfire and tell stories?
Day Seventeen: Time of New Beginnings (December 17th)
Besides reflection, winter solstice is also big on renewal and new discoveries or ideas. Today, it’s time to do something to represent newness and change! You could create a brand new oc, perhaps highlight an oc with qualities you’d like to emobody in the new year in attempts of changing your life for the better?
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS Some merry challenges for a merry christmas!
Day Eighteen: Baby’s First Christmas (December 18th)
Over the first year of a baby’s life, many people document a lot of the major moments—but when it comes to making memories, there’s nothing quite like Christmas Time. Recount your OC's first Christmas as an infant or as a recently new parent whose trying to make the holiday special with their little bundle of joy!
Day Nineteen: With Your Under The Mistletoe (December 19th)
In Norse culture, the Mistletoe plant was a sign of love and peace and Figg promised to kiss anyone who passed underneath it. For Celtic Druids, it was used to ward off evil spirits, provide good luck and even help to improve fertility. No matter what origins you prefer or have grown up knowing, both created the tradition of mistletoe hanging in the archway of a room where two rooms met to become one. Create something to celebrate two becoming one with an OC and their significant other under the mistletoe.
Day Twenty: For You and Me (December 20th)
The season is about giving and surprising those you care about with the perfect gift. Create a gif for your best friend who is in love with one or a few of your OCs! Make something inspired by your conversations that were based on an AU or a crossover with their very own OCs.
Day Twenty-One: Rocking Around The Christmas Tree (December 21st)
The Christmas tree, a symbol that represents permanence and immortality and decorated with lights, ornaments, and a star on top for the shining hope for humanity. For this challenge, write about and show how your OC(s), or send asks to your fellow creators about how their OC(s) would decorate their tree! Do they have a family tree that have homemade ornaments? Do they just have a personal pencil tree with peculiar theme? Do they get a fake tree or a real tree.
Day Twenty-Two: Jingle Bells Are Ringing, Everyone is Singing (December 22nd)
Other than gifts and decorating, Christmas music is a major part of the Holidays. From "All I Want for Christmas Is You" to "Last Christmas" which song best relates to your OC(s) this season? Do they enjoy Christmas Caroling around the neighbourhood? Do they sing a certain song every year that people automatically associate with them?
Day Twenty-Three: From Mine to Yours (December 23rd)
Christmas Cards are a great way to share love to those who live miles away from you, especially if you have no idea what to give them and just insert a $50 gift card in the envelope. Create a card that your OC would gift to someone else to spread kindness and warmth this chilly season.
Day Twenty-Four: Christmas Special (December 24th)
Hallmark is known for their very cheesy romantic TV Christmas movies but we always sit and devour the plot no matter what. As for the mainstream blockbuster movies such as Love Actually, The Holiday, and A Bad Moms Christmas, these are the movies that follow a different formula by giving us individual looks into the holiday season for different people and families with their own troubles and personal goals. For this day, you'll be inserting your OC(s) into their very own Holiday Special AU or making something for the actual holiday special of their fandom!
Day Twenty-Five: Giving, Receiving, and Appreciating (December 25th)
For the day in question that inspired the last seven challenges, we're taking it easy. To complete Christmas Day's challenge, simply make sure you signed up for and submitted ocpotlucks gift exchange than watch out for your gift and be sure to compliment others ocs and creations you see on the blog.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Some challenges to prepare us for the New Year!
Day Twenty-Six: First of The Year (December 26th)
Before we enter a new year of new beginning, let’s reflect on this years beginnings. For day one of our New Years themed challenges, let’s honor the first oc you made *this* year with some writing or an edit.
Day Twenty-Seven: You Make My Year Better (December 27th)
Saying goodbye is hard, but the hello can sometimes make everything worth it. For this day, appreciate a fandom you said hello to this year by making something for an oc you made for said new fandom.
Day Twenty-Eight: A Toast To You (December 28th)
You’ve heard it from a million people in a million ways; Skam says people need people, Girl Meets World says the secret of life is that people change people. So this day is about those people in the oc community who made your year better, and more specifically the ocs they created that changed and inspired your own writing and creativity. That’s right, we’re making something for your favorite oc of the year by someone else.
Day Twenty-Nine: The Best Part Of My Year (December 29th)
We all need ways to get through life, sometimes those things are always the same and sometimes they are hyper-fixations that get you up in the morning to explore. So, what oc did you find yourself fixating on most this year? Was it a brand new one, perhaps an old one you haven’t thought about in a while? On the twenty-eighth, use your passion to create something for your MOTY… muse of the year.
Day Thirty: I Still Love You (December 30th)
Friends break up, friends get married, strangers get born and strangers get buried, trends change, rumors fly through new skies… But that doesn’t mean some things don’t stay with us even when they lose our focus. Today, we are showing some love to those we may have accidentally left behind by making something for an oc you love that you feel you may have neglected this year.
Day Thirty-One: Practice Makes Perfect (December 31st)
A lot can change in just seconds, and even more can change in 365 days. Over the year, we’ve all learned and grown in so many different ways, and it’s time to show off. Remake an edit or rewrite a draft from early this year to remind yourself and others how far you’ve come!
Day Thirty-Two: Resolution (January 1st)
One of the most well-known traditions of new year celebration is to make resolutions. A New Year’s resolution is when someone makes a promise or sets an expectation for the new year that they are determined to live up too. Although these resolutions don’t always stay resolute, let’s get a good start on our attempts by making something on the first day of the year for an oc you want to appreciate and work on more throughout 2023.

I’m really not trying to get into any fights so I’m not even going to tag this post but I simply must express a few questions I have for the rabid anti-Israel people on here in hopes that if I write it down I’ll stop thinking about it LOL. and that’s 1) what do you mean when you say Israeli apartheid? I don’t understand how apartheid applies to this situation and I never see anyone explain what they mean by that? 2) when you all say “of course the settlers should give land back to the indigenous people” do you realize that Jews are the indigenous people???? It’s our land and the majority of us are happy to share it with Arab Palestinians who also clearly have a right to the land they’re living on but the Arab world has never even allowed for that possibility because they want to exterminate Jews. 3) Do you understand that Palestine is being run by a terrorist organization that uses its own citizens as human shields? Do you understand that they brutally raped Israeli women and children? Do you understand that they think being gay is as bad as being a murderer and families honor kill their gay children? Or that being gay can get you 10 years in prison in Palestine? Do you think that living under that as a ruling structure will make for a good society for Palestinians? If not, what is your plan?
That’s all for now but I never see people answer these questions, instead they always try to move onto a different part of the conversation and I’d really love to get some solid answers to this without people deflecting to “but Israel bad!”
We can talk about nuance and how Israel’s government has made bad decisions but first we gotta get clear on the basics.

Yeah no, people are just on a hair-trigger on the internet and are probably incorrectly pattern-matching you to the kind of a-holes who say "if you can't provide a logical reason for your traditions (that dont hurt anyone) they're unnecessary so we aren't gonna accommodate them". And anyhow they are being way too narrow about what being Jewish is, I'm secular Jewish and I only follow the traditions that are meaningful and valuable to me, I don't do or want to do All The Things right now
Thank you! That makes sense to me. Like the actual Jews I know, including the ones I follow on here, seem when they tell me what they’re actually DOING to be picking and choosing like I am. But then they make these broad info posts that make it sound like the only people in the world who question tradition are ex Christian atheists, and that we’re only doing it because we’ve experienced religious abuse. And it just feels super rude to me?
Like yes, part of why I vehemently defend anyone’s right to depart from tradition if they want to is that I’ve been in coercive groups! Sure. Guilty as charged your Honor.
But! That’s also had a positive side. Looking at traditions with a critical eye isn’t always about being upset! Sometimes it’s about noticing something is meaningful to you and thinking in depth about why, and realizing neat things about yourself along the way.
Like, I never thought that I’d go back to Christianity. But when I really thought about what religious practice HAD felt good to me, I realized that actually, for myself personally, I want spirituality to be about believing everyone is redeemable. Religion gives me a place to put that, as a higher value, without it being my personal duty to forgive when I find I can’t or feel unsafe.
Which led me to the idea that what I wanted was modified Christianity actually. I already understood and knew the traditions of a religion that did that, and the only thingsstopping me were 1) worry people would find out I don’t literally believe in god and 2) feeling like I’d be giving in to the man.
With 1, I realized that actually a lot of practicing Christians ARE functionally atheist. People don’t say it too loud, but if you look into a lot of art and writing, you’ll find “if there is a God, I pray that…” I realized this is super common! You can find people in Ancient Greece saying things in this way! If it’s common, then… people know about it already, and they only avoid saying they’re agnostic out of neurotypical social conventions. Which I’m not good at, so I say it openly.
Which means there are a whole lot more me's out there than a lot of people think, and that was ultimately enough for me to decide I was True Scotsman enough.
With 2, I realized that I’d become hugely invested in finding something cooler, but that I really didn’t have a concept of what this was. So I was posturing, when I already knew there was a community I would like and fit well into. So, you know? It was 2016 and I was scared and fuck it, I wanted to feel better and I didn’t care anymore.
But is that “I dunno I’m Christian because I just am lol?” It could be said, yes! Likely the reason I went back to how I was raised is in part that it’s how I was raised.
But I would not answer the question that way.
Instead, i would say that I spent a long time suspicious of religion in general, and ultimately thought about what purpose I wanted it to have in my life, so while “practicing Christian “ PROBABLY describes it, I mean something very personal and not generalizable about what I decided religion should be for.
I would be really surprised if some people’s relationship to their Judaism isn’t similar! But the narrative Tumblr has latched onto for dear life is “only Christians are like that. If you think it’s common for adolescents to have concerns around religious identity you don’t know what an ethnoreligion is.”
Which is ESPECIALLY galling to me. Yes I know what an ethnoreligion is, many of my relatives are Greek Orthodox.
Greek, the ethno, is right there in the name!

This is what you’re supporting if you’re supporting Hamas!!! Hamas is backed by Iran!!! These groups don’t just want to kill all Jews but they will systematically attack and destroy any they find inferior.
LGBT community…they’re already attacked, imprisoned or killed. Women…you are worth less than cattle. Don’t wear your hijab correctly take the chance of being beaten to death by the Morality Police (if that’s not an oxymoron I don’t know what is).
All you Gen Z who cry and stress about your pronouns and people honoring what ever you choose for your pronouns…kiss them goodbye. Hamas…Hezbollah will tell you what your pronouns are and will beat you into submission (if not death) to accept them.
I don’t agree with all Israel policies and Benjamin Netanyahu needs to go but right now I stand with Israel…I stand with my sisters in Iran who fight every day just to exist.
Hamas, Hezbollah and these other groups need to be eradicated. The rest of the world has allowed these groups to torture and terrorize not only anyone they deem an enemy but most especially the innocent people who are forced to live under their control.

So you're just a hypocrite then? You trash people rightly for liking the Darkling and now it's not right to? Make up your mind
You said you wanted whatever these peeps were smoking because they were delusional
Also you may be Jewish but unlike me a practising young Jewish woman, you're unchaste and don't honor the creed laid out in the Torah. Keep it in your pants slut
Tumblr media
oh so you just can’t read. that’s cool.
I’m not going to come into someone’s askbox to attack them over a fictional character. yes i think they’re delusional if they genuinely like the darkling and ship him with alina, and I’m allowed to say “darkling lovers are delusional” on my blog in my own space. but if you’re such a Good Jew you would understand why I’m not taking up arms in some holy crusade against people who disagree with me on the fucking internet. it’s a fucking fictional character, you dumb cunt. get a life.

Adding to this point: “sin” is a lot like “hell” in that it’s used to (rather inaccurately) translate a bunch of different words and ideas that are differentiated in Hebrew. Like, it’s true that chata is a word that commonly gets translated to sin, but there’s also averah, which carries the connotation of crossing a boundary or transgressing the terms of an agreement.
Which, by the way, is an important factor to consider about Judaism: the context of basically any rules in Judaism is that they are part of a specific agreement made collectively with the Jewish people. Outside of the obvious ones like “don’t murder people”, they generally aren’t objective, universally-binding laws of reality that every living soul must follow, much less ones that will bring the infinite, burning wrath of some sky authority down on you. They’re a moral code specific to the Jewish people that Jews have collectively chosen to take up and make sense of and honor together as part of an agreement with Hashem and each other. Obviously, natural consequences exist and there is often an underlying logic to a given rule that you don’t have to be a Jew to benefit from; mixing the wrong fabrics can make for impractical garments, a farmer can deplete the nutrients in the soil if they don’t let a field recover every once in a while, and being a dick to others will affect your social life, etc.
Even the name of the most famous example of commandments in the Bible, The Ten Commandments, isn’t a direct translation. In Hebrew it’s “Aseret ha-D’varim” or “Aseret ha-Dibrot”, which more directly translates to “The Ten Words/Sayings/Utterances”. Obviously they’re still rules, but again, given to a specific people in a specific context as part of an agreement between Hashem and the Jewish people.
However the word that’s usually translated as “commandment” is “mitzvah”, which often means something closer to “good deed” or “religious practice”, as seen in the phrase “mitzvah goreret mitzvah, averah goreret averah” (good deeds lead to good deeds, bad deeds lead to bad deeds), which is generally understood to mean that observing a mitzvah can help you make a habit of it and inspire others who are trying to observe it, as well as lead you to observing other mitzvot because many of them are interdependent—and of course not doing so can have the opposite effect.
The reason I bring this up is that if you try to translate “mitzvah” as “commandment” here, the phrase just doesn’t really make as much sense (and attempting to make it make sense completely alters the meaning). Sure, there are certain contexts where the English word “commandment” is passable at kinda-sorta getting the point across as a rough translation for “mitzvah”—that’s why it’s often translated that way—but this example illustrates how much those two words aren’t really synonymous, and hopefully gives a better understanding of the difference in connotation.
“Judaism is not a religion of blind obedience. Indeed, astonishingly in a religion of 613 commandments, there is no Hebrew word that means “to obey”. When Hebrew was revived as a living language in the nineteenth century, and there was need for a verb meaning “to obey,” it had to be borrowed from the Aramaic: le-tsayet. Instead of a word meaning “to obey,” the Torah uses the verb shema, untranslatable into English because it means [1] to listen, [2] to hear, [3] to understand, [4] to internalise, and [5] to respond. Written into the very structure of Hebraic consciousness is the idea that our highest duty is to seek to understand the will of God, not just to obey blindly.”

Preacher tells congregants to cut ties with LGBTQ+ children while shouting slurs
Preacher Aaron Thompson of the Verity Baptist Church in Vancouver, Washington told his followers to cut ties with any LGBTQ+ members of their families while using slurs from the pulpit. “The gratuitous use of the f-word is going to be used in this sermon,” Thompson said in a sermon posted to Facebook that was posted by writer Hemant Mehta to Twitter. “The f-word I’m talking about is fa***t or f*g, ok?” --- Related Stories Hate pastor claims teachers are giving lessons on sodomy & allowing students to identify as cats Students identifying as dogs? Isn’t lying a sin? --- He claimed that Methodists are “sending people to hell” for accepting LGBTQ+ people. The United Methodist Church does not allow same-sex marriages or LGBTQ+ people to be ordained. Get the Daily Brief The news you care about, reported on by the people who care about you. “Any church that flies a rainbow flag outside of their building is not a real church, folks,” Thompson claimed. “And if there’s a bunch of fa***ts there, then there’s a bunch of molesters there because they’re all pedophiles.” He then brought up a hypothetical person who might not like what he was saying. “But my cousin, they’re really nice and they’re really sweet and they’re really cute and they’re so funny,” he said sarcastically. “You don’t know what they’re doing behind closed doors! Do you think they’re going to tell you the vile and wicked and beastlike things that they’re doing?” he said. “So even people that have like sisters or brothers or parents – God forbid – or any of this – Look, you know, respect your parents, honor your parents, but if they’re a fa***t, then have nothing to do with them!” Thompson said. “If they’re your kid, have nothing to do with them! If it’s your cousin, your best friend from high school, whatever!” “I would cut ties with any kid that was a f*g. My own kid, any kid. I don’t want to have anything to do with them.” Thompson then used the word “fa***t” repeatedly because “there’s no YouTube channel to get nuked.” He then accused the Southern Poverty Law Center – which follows extremists – of being “tied to the Jews somehow.” Christian hate-preacher Aaron Thompson delivered an 80-minute rant against LGBTQ people. Here's a short compilation of his vile statements. (I wore out my bleep button.) pic.twitter.com/tiW6jgUrax— Hemant Mehta (@hemantmehta) July 23, 2023 Verity Baptist Church is tied to the Sure Foundation Baptist Church in Spokane, Washington, which is part of the New Independent Fundamental Baptist (New IFB) movement, an extreme branch of Christianity with churches across the country. Thompson has preached at Sure Foundation Baptist Church in the past, including a sermon where he explained why he likes the word “fa***t”: the word “fa***t” just sounds nice to him, and he doesn’t believe his target audience will understand fancy words like “sodomite.” “And so what the inspired word is in this book is the right word, we shouldn’t be ashamed of it,” he said. “You’re like, ‘Well what about fa***t, you say fa***t, you say fa***t,’” he said. “It’s like yeah but when you say sodomite, most of the time people don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s not like everyone else there outside reads the Bible. It’s not like a real popular word.” “You can say homosexual, but it doesn’t have the negative connotation that it should have,” he complained. “Because the negative connotation that it should have is that they’re a bunch of freaks and that God pronounces the death penalty upon them in Leviticus 20:13.” “And I’m not gonna shy away from anything that the Bible says.” Christian hate-preacher Aaron Thompson says every word in the Bible matters. But anti-LGBTQ slurs, which are not in the Bible, are okay to use because they just sound better. pic.twitter.com/wk5kGVMhj9— Hemant Mehta (@hemantmehta) September 15, 2022 http://dlvr.it/Ssh6RB
