It’s truly fascinating going from DC where OC culture is nearly nonexistent and those that do exist, seven times out of ten they’re just used as vessels to woo a DC character, while Ninjago’s OC culture is incredibly popular and vibrant.
I plan to make the weakest saddest wettest elemental master OC I can possibly make. Y’all are wonderful

Overdue thoughts on Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
I’ve been meaning to talk about my reaction to the latest Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer, and now I’m finally gonna do it. This isn’t some super in depth theory crafting. Much like my Kingdom Hearts IV post this is just some early reflections.
I’ll start with what I’ve noticed in terms of gameplay because this’ll be the shorter part. Also, I’ll just quickly point out that most of my Musou knowledge comes from the two Hyrule Warriors games. So if I sound ignorant about specifics of Dynasty Warriors gameplay, it’s because I am. Just a heads up.
One thing I’ve been consistently impressed by in Koei Tecmo’s latest Musou spin-offs is how committed they are to trying to make them feel like part of the series that spawned them. Persona 5 Strikers and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity both perfectly match the graphical style of the games they’re based off. They also both pull a ton of aspects from the gameplay of their source material and blend them with Warriors gameplay. Sure enough, we have already seen Combat Arts, Gambits, Adjutants and the class system in these trailers. Combat Arts are particularly neat, since OP special moves are a Warriors tradition, but letting you choose from multiple ones is a neat bit of customisation (or maybe it’s already been done idk). Teaming up with allies on the battle field for group attacks is also cool as is more control over AI allies, but I hope this doesn’t replace actually swapping characters which I think is a great mechanic for these games both to keep variety, and bolster their light strategy elements. Three Houses’ training is also back, and hopefully will be used to cut down on the typical Musou grind rather than increase it.
Ok, that’s all I can observe from the gameplay as far as I can make out and it all looks great. Here’s hoping there’s not any egregious performance issues.
Anyway, onto the story. So far I’m getting major vibes of Age of Calamity. This very much appears to be an alternate timeline, much of which revolves around our new protagonist, Shez. The idea seems to be that Shez’s absence was the main reason Three Houses played out the way it did, and now that they’re here, things may go differently.
Incidentally I’m glad Shez isn’t a silent protagonist. Byleth had more characterisation than your average silent protag, but they really couldn’t carry a story without the three lords (see Silver Snow for proof). I’ve already praised the new redesigns, and yes they are all chef’s kiss. But I wanna talk chronology. Anime ages are hazy at the best of times, but from what I see, there is definitely a timeskip here and they do look older, but the changes are way less pronounced than they were in Three Houses. The war has not been going on for five whole years it seems.
The game also seems to be going out of its way to tap into some unexplored ideas from the original. For instance, we see a pink haired warrior in the trailer who could very possibly be Holst, Hilda’s previously unseen brother, as well as a new character who resembles Claude (another member of the Almryan nobility?). Even Monica seems to be here, though the jury’s still out on whether this the real or Monica or simply a disguised Kronya.
Shez also has a companion figure much like Sothis named Arval, but this guy’s whole colour scheme resembles the Agarthans. I know that, as such, some people are expecting a twist villain but I actually hope not. The Agarthans were probably the weakest part of Three Houses’ story as they hindered the game’s gray morality by being obvious villains who masterminded many of Fódlan’s worst aspects. Giving them a sympathetic god figure similar to Sothis, or at least having one Agarthan who isn’t cartoonishly evil could provide them depth, much like the Nabateans.
And of course, we gotta talk about Byleth.
I think posing Byleth as an antagonist is a great reversal. It takes their silent, borderline Gary-Stu/Mary-Sue nature and turns it into something threatening by turning it against us. Nice to see them living up to the Ashen Demon name. And supposedly, they nearly killed Shez at some point in the past and the story is hyping up a rematch of sorts. However, I highly doubt they are a true villain. We see that their name and gender is still decided by the player, which implies they’re playable. So I’m expecting a dual perspective story simillar to Gaiden and its remake Shadows of Valentia. This would mean switching between Byleth and Shez at story intervals much like Alm and Celica, leading up to their second confrontation. Then again, this game apparently has three routes, so I don’t know how this could logistically work in that context. Interestingly, Sothis’ narration in the first trailer makes some comment about revenge and given how, normally, only Byleth can hear her, that implies to me that maybe Jeralt’s death plays out differently in this timeline. Could Shez themselves be involved? We’ll see I guess...
Lastly, there’s the question of whether this game will have any kind of ‘everyone lives’ golden ending. On the one hand, Three Houses is supposed to be a tragedy. It has no completely happy ending and I think it’s a better game for it. That being said, the Warriors crossovers have often been kind of fanfic-y. They’re bombastic fan-pleasing spectacles that run on hype, and Age of Calamity specifically set itself apart as an AU so it could run wild without contradicting Breath of the Wild. I see no reason Three Hopes couldn’t do the same. Though the fact that it still has multiple routes means that unless there’s some Fates/Sonic Adventure 2 ‘last story’, it probably won’t have a fully happy ending. So maybe bring tissues to be safe.
There’s still a lot we don’t know, but I’m still really excited. I loved Age of Calamity (though I suspect some people would shoot me for saying that because something, something ‘false advertising’) and this looks to bring a lot of the same buckwild AU energy to one of my favourite Switch titles. Plus I’m just looking forward to seeing these characters again, AND using them to curbstomp entire armies. I just hope the playable roster is up to par, considering how much I love Three Houses cast.
But yeah, long story short, I’m incredibly excited.

birth chart reading for @upgradebitch
hello! welcome to your reading. I’m gonna give you a quick overview of what I’m going to analyze about your natal chart. feel free to ask me anything if something isn’t clear, of course. you’ll find out your dominants’ influence on your persona, your physical appearance, impression on others and the way you approach the world; your ego, identity, the real you; your reactions, your desires, inner emotions; your way of expressing your feelings, your mind and ideas; your desires and approach to love; your energy tank, instincts and temperament; in-depth analysis of each house with their rulers and analysis of heavy aspects; love life + soulmates/karmic partners interpretation; your relationship with your friends; your family life; your approach to career and work in general + possible jobs suggestion; your style, fashion sense analysis; life purpose and past life description; basic transits’ analysis to describe your current mood and, last but not least, your secret skills, how to make the most out of your soul and manifest what you desire based on your birth chart.
🦋 chart shape, dominants
your chart is a bucket shape, with moon as the handle of the bucket. your saturn is in the 12th house, hence matters regarding your mental health and spirituality will be your priorities in this lifetime. you also have clear ideas about your future and who you want to be. even though you may have different passions and talents you’re capable of only sticking to one and mastering it, giving your all.
your dominant planets are jupiter, mercury and the sun. you are surely very smart! you have a great sense of humor, you're very witty and intelligent. you may also have lots of creative and innovative ideas, or at least you're very creative.
your dominant sign is aries. you may have a reputation for being impulsive and straight-forward. you don't like beating around the bush, especially when people purposely get on your nerves. on the other hand, you're very loyal and generous when it comes to your loved ones. you're very opinionated, and you always wanna make sure that your voice is heard. you're proud of yourself.
your dominant element is fire. you have a warm heart, even though it may be covered by your confidence and independence. in fact, you always strive for the first place. people may be intimidated by your presence, as you're a serious competitor. thanks to this competitive nature of yours you may be very positive and optimistic, making you a good and supportive friend/partner.
🌎 ascendant in virgo, 16° / 2nd decan ruled by mercury and saturn
you have a practical approach to the world. you’re kind of logical, it’s hard for you to improvize. you always want to keep everything neat and organized, at least in your mind. you could have a natural coldness to your face. you may seem a bit older than you are, or at least very mature and responsible, even though you may be more outgoing than you look due to your many sagittarius placements. with your attentive eyes, you pay attention to every single detail you see. you’re a perfectionist, and you always want and try to be at your best state. I would say you’re quite competitive when it comes to your goals, but you don’t really do it to be above others. you do it because your obsession for details kind of stresses you out. improving and proving yourself is a way to boost your self-esteem, you feel fulfilled when you can achieve your goals. you are extremely intelligent and logical, you’re always up for a deep talk or simply for an occasion to gain more knowledge. you like being smart, you always want to know about everything. even the latest, trendy meme counts for you. your nature is very cautious; you’re rarely impulsive, you always think deeply about your decisions, as you don’t want to commit any mistakes. because of that, you can be particularly picky. not only with material things such as movies, books, food etc. but even with people. it’s hard for you to open up to someone you don’t know at all. you take things slow, both in friendships and in relationships, just to preserve yourself. you may come off as kind of snobby, but you’re just misunderstood. you don’t like flaky bonds, you need security in your life. physically, as I’ve already mentioned before, you have this kind of strict look on your face. your eyes may be almond-shaped, and you could have a natural feline gaze. overall, you have something smaller about your features; you could have thin lips, a small nose, small eyes… you could have a smaller frame with thin bones, and you don’t gain weight easily. you may be of average height, and I’ve noticed that most virgos tend to have pretty long legs? no matter if they’re tall or not, their legs will still be longer than their bust.
virgo ascendant opposite pisces mercury: you appear as a very intelligent individual, and people may even feel intimidated by that. you love interacting with others; even if you're not much talkative, you like hearing about others' theories and opinions. you could also do that by reading blogs, books etc. you may sometimes find yourself in conflict with others, as you’re very opinionated and hate it when others’ opinions are baseless. pretty much, you could seem like a know-it-all. on the other hand, you have a nice sense of humor, you're able to light up the room with your words, even though this quality of yours may be overshadowed by introversion at first. it's hard to find a way to make you come off as more gentle, as you have some of the most fiery and blunt signs in your chart. the fact that your mercury is squaring your pluto doesn't help either. you could take advantage of your astute words and sense of humor to get you out of troubles, though! just be careful not to claim that everything hurtful you say is a joke. it's something that aries placements do a lot.
virgo ascendant square gemini saturn: you may be shy and have self-esteem issues, especially during your early years. because of that, you may often appear as insecure to others, or even unreliable. you have a strong desire to be with someone and commit to them, you despise supertificial bonds, but at the same time you may find yourself being too shy to approach others, especially during your early years. luckily, I feel like the effect of this aspect is mitigated by your moon in leo, which makes you extremely confident. you may not be the most confident person on earth, but you're not the most insecure either. this may apply more to the younger you, actually. you don't feel much comfortable around other people, and others can sense that; your insecurity is exposed to the world, and some may take advantage of that to hurt your feelings. you're afraid of being judged, whether it's for your appearance, or maybe because of your ideals or interests. hence, you end up becoming reserved. this is something that will be solved through growth and time; the older you get, the easier you'll be on yourself. also, thanks to this aspect, you're a responsible person with defined values. to cope with this placement, I'd suggest you to do what makes you feel the best. there are different ways to boost your self-esteem, so maybe you can work on that and then start expressing yourself freely; if you do it without the fear of being judged, you will shine even more.
virgo ascendant square sagittarius pluto: you're aware that the world is too nasty for your honesty, hence you may have trust issues. even though you are friendly, you're very picky about who you decide to actually call your friend. you may constantly feel lonely, as if no one were willing to listen and understand you. you live with the fear that others may take advantage of you, hence you end up doing it yourself, unconsciously. you may be controlling, but your chart hints that it's not too much of a big deal. you may have the tendency to do it sometimes, but it's mostly a bad trait of your past life. the universe is testing you to see if you've learned your lesson or not. you have all the skills to avoid this type of behaviour now that you're aware of it.
🌞 sun in aries, 4° / 1st decan ruled by mars
even though you enjoy the idea of love and relationships, your independency is what matters the most for you. you possess strong leadership, which makes you aspire for the best positions in work, school, marriage etc. you don't want to lower your standards. aries have the reputation of being fearless, and that's mainly caused by their impulsiveness. in fact, if they actually thought before acting, they wouldn't be aries lol. some people may even define you as selfless, as you literally put yourself in danger or in awkward situations just to say what you truly think, even if nobody asked. it's apart of your nature, you don't want to go unnoticed. you probably lose your temper when someone challenges you (and it may happen often, to be honest). you hate routine; you always try to spice up your daily life a bit by meeting new people and trying new experiences in general. you enjoy having fun, partying, travelling... you thrive in social situations. you may have troubles making right decisions, as you're quite indecisive. but, once you do choose, no one is gonna stop you from achieving your goals and showing the world who you are. in fact, you gain confidence from your assertiveness, making you pretty proud of your persona as well.
aries sun square cancer jupiter: this is a hard aspect, which could make you feel even more proud of yourself due to your fire dominance. you may feel like the universe is constantly against you, especially with your pessimistic virgo rising. you may feel unlucky, or even overindulge in things you like to cope with sadness or anger. you may have the tendency to overeat, buy useless things etc. you go from having a low self-esteem, to even looking very bossy without even realizing it. you struggle to keep your identity balanced, even though you might have not been aware of it at first. to achieve fortune and joy in life, you need to work hard for it. to do so, you have to learn your karmic lessons in this lifetime, which probably revolve around family issue and their impact on your interactions with others.
🌙 moon in leo, 21° / 3rd decan ruled by the sun and mars
when you're with someone you feel comfortable with, you become a social butterfly. even though it may seem like you're looking for attention, it's not your priority. you're so charismatic and bubbly that you get naturally noticed. this is the most trustworthy leo decan, and also the most benevolent. you can be quite dramatic when you express your reactions; e.g. you scream when you're angry, or maybe you get really loud when you're excited or happy about something. you could also vent your emotions punching things, for example. just like the sun, the heat of your emotions needs to be felt by those who surround you. you'd do anything to help someone, especially with your aries sun. you just want the best for anyone, even though people may take advantage of this generosity of yours. in addition, you could hardly ever say no, especially to people you're not close to. your heart is aligned with your feelings; you're naturally kind-hearted, you're prone to say things as you feel them. on the other hand, you may not be aware of how your thoughts may influence others. you're also very artistic! you might be into drawing/painting, or at least into art history, or maybe literature, poetry etc. anything that involves creativity and self-expresssion. you can be quite egotistic regarding your emotions: you always try to interpret people's feelings, so you get deeply upset when people don't understand you, especially when they don't even try.
leo moon square taurus mars: your feelings are very intense. you may tend to react aggressively, or at least overreact. you feel the constant need to express your emotions, but you also want to be understood by others. you tend to be aggressive because you're actually afraid that others may be the first ones to hurt you. you don't really do it with malice, it's your way to defend yourself from eventual enemies. this placement also indicates that your childhood / family life was or will be quite turbulent, especially since your pluto is located in the 4th house, which is about family and home. to cope with this placement, I'd suggest you to be a little bit more mechanic when you express your feelings. you don't have to hide them, just try not to vent all your anger around. you don't seem strong, you're just exposing your weaknesses in this way.
🗣 mercury in pisces, 22° / 3rd decan ruled by neptune and pluto
you have the potential to be very focused on something thanks to your virgo rising, but your heavy pisces influence may interfer in that. in fact, you probably lose yourself in your own thoughts very often, starting daydreaming instead of doing what you have to do. you’re very creative and artistic, and you’re also able to fully convey your emotions in your words, even though it may be perceived as confusing sometimes. that’s because not everyone is as empathetic as you are. on the other hand, you may have the tendency to lie, or just being confusing in any way. you may not always express what you want crystal clear, as you want to able to modify the story just in case you encounter some hardships. also, you never truly express your feelings, probably out of fear. probably, the way you elaborate your thoughts is also influenced by your family and the impact they had on you. you’re always vague, and you keep your private matters for yourself. pisces is a mutable sign, so you may also find yourself changing ideas often, your mind wanders from one thought to another. you are very intuitive, and you may even have some sort of psychic talent. you could do well at reading tarots, birth charts etc. your voice is probably naturally loud, it's hard not to listen to you. also, since your mercury is squaring pluto, you could be quite impulsive sometimes and say things you actually don't mean. you could argue often with others due to this trait of yours, you get defensive very easily. on the other hand, you most likely have a nice sense of humor at least.
pisces mercury square sagittarius pluto: you may become a bit manipulative. you probably don’t even realize it, though, as you have the ability to make people do what you want them to do. you probably love being right, especially during arguments, and you always manage to be so thanks to your skills. your words are like knives for others, they can truly cut deep through their ego. you’re direct and blunt, as you just say what you have in mind with no filters. you can develop a provocative attitude without even realizing it, which can obviously cause you conflicts. you need to be more careful about how you communicate your ideas, otherwise you could seriously damage other people’s self-esteem. on the other hand, if you acknowledge your flaws and work on them, this can actually turn into diplomacy. take advantage of your interest in your inner self to find out how to be a bit more gentle in choosing your words.
❤️ venus in aries, 21° / 3rd decan ruled by mars and jupiter
with venus in aries, loving you is an adventure. you enjoy fun, exciting relationships. you're the type who's looking for a risktaker, even dangerous partner. you hate boredom, and this may be your weakness regarding this placement; that is, once the relationship starts getting more serious, you feel as if it's going down, when it's actually the opposite. hence, you just run towards a new adventure. this placement may even give you the reputation of being a player, but I don't think it's your case based on your others placements. you have to understand that relationships can get boring, but that's not necessarily a red flag. it just means you two are starting to feel comfortable together. you also enjoy physical contact, therefore cold partners are a no no for you. you need someone who's affectionate yet bold, and that would spoil you with attention and gifts. you enjoy the little things about love, such as remembering your anniversary or even giving you small presents, especially if they're homemade (like breakfast, poems etc.). you also try to avoid flaky people, as you don't like making relationships seem too light.
☄️ mars in taurus, 16° / 2nd decan ruled by venus and mercury
with taurus mars, you may actually despise working too much. you love challenging your mind, but you're kind of lazy. you'd rather stimulate yourself through your hobbies and interests rather than using school / work, which are quite stressful for you. you need to find something material and concrete to motivate you and make you assertive. you could study just because you need a good grade, or maybe work just to get paid. you don't really do it with interest, as you care more about nurturing your passions than responsibilities. you're not really into conflicts; you'd rather be peaceful with everyone, as you find it a waste time to argue with someone. most taurus mars tend to be quite passive, yet I don't think it's your case. I imagine that with your heavy fire energy, you've got a hot temper. you may try to avoid conflicts, but once someone gets on your nerves it's over for them. you're very unpredictable from this point of view, it's hard to decipher you. you may be more verbally assertive than physically, though.
🏡 houses
your 1st house is in virgo. you appear as someone intelligent, possibly judgmental and critical. in fact, you’re a perfectionist, and most of the time you appreciate it when someone takes care of themselves just as much as you do. you’re also particularly pessimistic, and this could be annoying for those around you. you’re very logical, even though you probably don't lack intuition thanks to all the water energy in your chart. you’re very pragmatic, and you may even be judgmental. the ruler of the 1st house is in the 7th house: you come off as a very outgoing, sociable person. you may be quite sensitive, or at least you care about what others think of you, you could need reassurance often. you probably love having people around you, and you also want to build your own family in the future.
your 2nd house is in libra. you find beauty and aesthetic in material things; you most probably love clothes, art, music… anything that isn’t exactly a priority in life, but that allows you to express your personal taste, which is very refined. with this placement I’d suggest that you should pursue a career that allows you to express your creativity, as arts and beauty allow you not only to make money, but also to increase your security and confidence. you could also spend money in venusian things like clothes, make-up, decorations and anything that involves beauty and aesthetic. with mars placed in this house, I feel like you may be very fond of money. you could do something just to earn material things from it, like money or any other good that satisfies your wants. you may be quite materialistic, you enjoy the finer things in life, or at least you want to be financially stable. you like the idea of saving money, but ironically you may be too impulsive when it comes to finances and spend money in random things you may not need.
your 3rd house in scorpio. you probably love witty jokes and sarcasm. you’re extremely honest when you think and speak, and most of the times you have no problems expressing your opinions. you could possibly be very good with words and be good at convincing and manipulating others. usually this placement makes someone kind of mischievous when it comes to words, but I think that with all the jupiter influence in your chart, you’re able to control this in order not to hurt others. your mind is very deep, you’re probably not really into small talks. you may also love anything that is considered taboo, like astrology, horror, nudity, death… you’re also quite secretive, you’re seen as an enigma. you don’t want to share much about you. last but not least, you value honesty above all. you only speak the truth, and hence you also want it back. you may as well be into conspiracy theories, science and anything that can expose what’s behind the universe, the government etc.
your 4th house is in sagittarius, with also pluto placed in this house. you could come from a foreign place, or perhaps you moved houses a lot during your childhood. perhaps, you have someone in your family that is from a different culture or religion from yours, or perhaps they’re able to speak more than one language. your parents could have been very successful at school, they could actually be professors. you might’ve always been a smart kid, you could’ve grown up learning more languages and you were most likely good at school too. you also got to make lots of experiences during your childhood, you might have travelled a lot. your relationship with your family is most likely very good. it could be that there might have been a few misunderstandings between you and your parents, but nothing too serious. maybe, they could have been a bit distant, it could be that they had to travel a lot for work and hence you felt lonely; or maybe, it's the opposite, they were a bit too affectionate and overwhelming, possibly possessive too, and you may have been babied or spoiled a bit too much. yet, this didn't really affect your growth and mentality, so it's probably nothing important.
your 5th house is in the sign of capricorn, with also your neptune placed there. capricorn usually brings a feeling of seriousness to the house it’s in. I don’t think it’s your case, though. in fact, neptune, is also placed in this house. you could be a bit more introverted, probably you’re not the type to frequent clubs, parties, etc. you’re more serious from that point of view. your hobbies could actually drain your energy for you; let’s suppose you’re into videogames. you could literally spend the whole day playing videogames, as you take your hobbies very seriously. you’re not the type to start a project and then leave it, and it could be helpful considering that your sagittarius moon gets bored very easily, you’re very resolute. also, you most likely have 'mature’ hobbies; you could be into politics, economy, history… you could be into slower types of music, for example, or perhaps you like reading about world issues. with your children you may be quite strict, as you see them as a responsibility. also, you may often be attracted or attract older or more mature partners. you’re most likely a very romantic and artistic person, you may be fond of music, dancing, singing, acting… anything creative that stimulates your senses. yet, you may be a bit picky when it comes to hobbies; you probably only like reading specific types of books, you only listen to a certain music style, and so on. you may also be into spirituality such as psychology, astrology, law of attraction, yoga, mediation, etc.
your 6th house is in aquarius, uranus is also sitting there. people with aquarius in their 6th house need to change their routine throughout your life. probably, when you were you younger they taught you things that aren’t healthy for your body and health. you may have to change your diet, your medicines… also, you may sometimes procrastinate in your day-to-day life. I don’t think you do it too often, but it may still happen due to your virgo and mars dominance in your chart, but for example you wouldn’t mind skipping a day of school or work to play videogames. this placement also indicates that you may often come across unpredictable events in your daily life. you may often see strange, unordinary things, or perhaps it’s your routine that is like that. you may lack consistency when it comes to diets and health, for example; you may start a diet and keep it for a month, then you get tired and drop it all of a sudden. you could also develop unexpected diseases. you may pursue a career that looks unexpected for you at first, something that you never thought you'd do. it will most likely be a creative, artistic job. it will be a very pleasant job, it won’t even feel like a duty to you as you’ll choose a job that you like and that you’re passionate about. regarding your health, throughout your life you may often come across sudden health problems, illnesses may come out of nowhere.
your 7th house is in pisces. your mercury and sun are also sitting in this house. with this pisces descendant, you attract people that are pretty much very intuitive and soft; they could have pisces placements, or at least they’ll be extremely artistic and emotional. yet, you may as well surround yourself with 'broken’ people. that is, people that aren’t exactly in the best state of their health, whether physically or mentally. neptune, the ruler of this house, is in the 5th house. you could meet them in a fun situation, like a party, a vacation, a night out… any situation where you’re supposed to be chilling and having fun, you may meet your future spouse there. also, in a relationship you probably hate feeling suffocated. while your pisces descendant may make you enjoy skinship, you may sometimes also need your space, you still need your freedom, especially since your sun and venus sign is aries. also, pisces makes you idealize your crushes/partners way too much, to the point that you create an image of someone in your head that turns out to be the opposite at the end. you ignore your partner’s flaws, as they seem perfect to you. aries people are usually too independent, they tend to be quite selfish and neglect relationships, but luckily having your personal planets in your 7th house balances everything out. in fact, you are more considerate of people than other people, you like sharing time with others without losing your individuality.
your 8th house is in aries, with also venus placed there. generally, people with aries in their 8th house are very confident when it comes to taboo topics; they have no problems showing their interest in them, especially with people they're intimate with. thanks to venus' presence in this house, you're not afraid of darker topics and embracing them. for example, you could have lots of sex drive. you constantly try to improve yourself by coming up with new projects, you love challenges. they help you growing up into the person you want to become. you may come across some hardships regarding yourself, your identity. but, when you face those fears and start loving yourself, you’ll naturally become more mature and 'transform’. you have very high standards when it comes to love. you're a passionate, loyal lover, but at the same times you also want and need a lover that is willing to go as far as you go with your feelings. you may often test your partner to see if they're worthy of your love, for example. you have this sort of self-destructive behaviour that makes people stressed, just because you have extreme trust issues and you feel the need to control everyone, especially if 'everyone' is your lover. you find yourself being more attracted to 'darker' types; that is, you may be into bad boys / girls, someone with an edgy / grunge aesthetic. last but not least, this placement can also indicate that you're going to have a peaceful death, you're going to die later in life.
your 9th house is in taurus, with also saturn and mars sitting there. with this placement, I feel like you may use your intellect to gain financial security and material possessions. while this is a good thing, as it helps increasing your confidence, don’t forget that your intellect is more important than money or any other thing. don’t underestimate it. you’re totally capable of learning and understanding things by yourself, hence don’t wait for others for help. you should start dealing with your own experiences alone, without anybody else’s help. this placement can also be someone a little close-minded; in fact, you're probably very stubborn and firm about your beliefs. you hardly ever allow others to change your mind. saturn here could make it hard for you to step out of your comfort-zone, you may be shy and therefore you could often miss out on important opportunities in your life. luckily, you're going to get more assertive as time goes by, and you will feel free, you just need to grow more mature. you are driven by a strong sense of justice that makes you want to discover the truth. you hate lies of any kind, you want sincerity from those around you and you're the first to be constantly honest. you value your freedom a lot, your life motto is most likely 'live and let live'. you think everyone should live their lives by their own standards, without feeling afraid of being judged or criticized. you're a very pure and genuine person, you hardly ever judge a book by its cover, and you're also extremely open-minded. you're thirsty for knowledge of any kind, you're always up to learn something new. you may also be interested in foreign languages and cultures, as well as philosophy, literature... anything that can teach you something new about the world.
your 10th house is in gemini, with also your jupiter there. you may actually pursue more than one career throughout your life! you’re very flexible and skilled at multi-tasking, so you probably wouldn’t feel stressed about it. perhaps, you could alternate a creative profession with a more logical career, like working in an office for example. also, your suitable jobs should include communication and creativity at the same time; you could be a writer, for example. or perhaps, you could keep these two things in two separate jobs. what matters is that you use words in both of them, and hence you could even be a judge, a singer, a translator, etc. you may also have to interact with other people in your job, I don't see you working from home for example. you could even work as a teacher, or even professor since your jupiter is strongly placed in your chart. you may also be very popular on your work place, and you may even be in the public eye for your job. last but not least, you may have to travel for your job, perhaps you work abroad or you need to deal with foreign people and cultures. you may also need to speak other languages for work.
your 11th house is in cancer. this placement indicates that your friends, they’re your comfort-zone. you feel understood when you’re with them, they’re pretty much like a family to you. you can tell them anything, you put all of your trust in them. or at least, if you haven’t met anyone like this yet, you’ll surely meet a friend that is like a soulmate to you. they’ll also be very important for your growth. in addition, it could also be that you’re still friends with someone from your childhood or even high school days, and hence you could literally grow up together. you could also have some step-siblings. you could also have very big goals you want to achieve in your life, probably since your childhood. as a result, you may end up pursuing your dream career for instance.
lastly, your 12th house is in leo. this is kind of a tricky placement, as leo rules the self, the ego, and the 12th house rules fears. you could be afriad of being too confident, of feeling worth it, or even just by being in the spotlight. perhaps, you have stage fright. this fear of embracing your persona makes you very insecure, even though you probably don’t show it. also, since your 12th house is the house of dreams, you could often make dreams that involve yourself. you hardly ever dream of someone else, and if you they’re probably your lovers, possibly your friends. you may also make daydreams or sleeping dreams of creative, utopic scenarios. the moon is also sitting there; you most likely have lots of dreams, that could even predict the future, and generally they're not too violent or turbulent. you’re hopelessly romantic, to the point that you almost look naive. you’re not simply looking for a partner or spouse, you’re looking for a soulmate; someone you can literally communicate with just using your eyes, someone that knows how to make you feel even messier on the inside. you like to nurture and feel nurtured in a relationship. your ideal lover would be sensitive and empathetic, yet still with a sort of rebel vibe to them. you have quite a vivid imagination, you're able to idealize and picture anything you want. while this placement gives you an incredible amount of creativity, it can also make you uncomfortable. in fact, you may actually find yourself imagining every detail of every situation, even the worst ones. let's suppose you hear of a rape at the news; you literally start imagining the scene detail by detail, and it makes you extremely uncomfortable. actually, it literally ruins your mood, as it's as if you actually lived that scene. going back to the creativity matter, you have the soul of an artist; you have very enhanced emotions, and you're able to express them through artistic outlets. you could be amazing at writing poetry, books, art, music... also, your particular empathy of human's intellect can also make you an amazing psychologist or actress, as you're able to understand others' feelings and make them your own. you're extremely spiritual, and if you don't feel like that, you just have yet to have your spiritual awakening.
❤️ love life, soulmates
in love, you attract pisces, virgo, gemini, leo, capricorn and aquarius placements. your future spouse will most likely have some of their planets in virgo or leo, maybe a leo-virgo cusp; they’ll be well-balanced, with a stable job and finances. yet, they won’t be too much of a workaholic, as they’re also most probably a chill individual who loves relax and vacation as well. they could also be foreign and very open-minded. yet, they could be quite impulsive and chilidish at times. your chart points out that this relationship will be kind of unordinary; you may meet them abroad, most likely at work, or even during a simple trip. they’ll also be very spiritual, perhaps religious, or even psychic. you could meet them at night, maybe in a club for example, or even in a context related to death. your children will have capricorn and pisces placements: they’ll be extremely reliable and intelligent; they could be a bit rebellious during their early years, but they will become more mature as time goes by. they'll be very creative and quite sensitive too.
👶🏻 family life
your mother was probably very outgoing, sociable and open-minded. she was probably very intelligent too, and she could have been a successful student. she was basically the perfect, nurturing mother. yet, she probably was too emotional, she could have even been quite possessive or moody. she probably has sagittarius, scorpio and / or cancer placements in her chart, as well as 9th, 8th and 4th house placements. your father, on the other hand, was probably less strict than your mother. he had a complex personality, he most likely used to act different based on the situation he was in. but you most likely used to play a lot with him, you had fun together. he could have been very sociable and intelligent too. he may have gemini, sagittarius, scorpio or virgo placements in his chart, as well as 3rd and 6th house placements, perhaps even 9th. if you have siblings, they have scorpio or aries placements in their chart, as well as 1st / 8th house placements. you might have fought a lot when you were young, there were many control issues and your bond is very intense. yet, you're still very affectionate, and your bond will probably get better as time goes by.
📊 career
as I've already mentioned above, your future career will most likely involve communication of any kind; you could have to interact with other people, and hence you may work in a place that allows you to communicate with others and that can get quite crowded, like a shop for example. you'll most likely start from these small jobs, like working in a cafe for example. yet, your gemini midheaven indicates that you can handle way stronger careers; above all, communication and creativity are the most indicated fields for you to be successful. you would do amazing as a writer for example, or perhaps you could even become an amazing teacher / professor. yet, you may even choose to pursue a more complex career, like a career in the med field. you could become a nurse for example, as it allows you to both help and communicate with other people. you will start from simple things, but as time goes by, you'll be able to become more independent, maybe even a leader. you probably won't have to depend too much on other people.
👚 fashion sense, style analysis
you probably love clothes that can show and enhance your body. you may love wearing crop tops, skirts, bralettes, shorts... anything that leaves a part of your body uncovered, yet that still looks elegant and classy. you could also enjoy baggy clothes, paired with fancy accessories and heels. for colors, you go from wearing bold colours like red, burgundy and neon, to darker shades like black, dark blue etc. you probably also love neutral shades, like kaki, beige and so on.
👁 past life, life purpose
in your past existence, you were very in touch with your home, self, and probably marriage too. overall, your past life was very peaceful, especially when it comes to your family. this lifetime, though, you need to focus on letting the world know who you are. you have to build a reputation for your name and feel satisfied with your career, while still taking care of your family.
🤔 major transits analysis / june 20th
a few unpredictable, possibly painful events may occur in this period of time, as transit saturn in aquarius is in your 5th house conjunct your natal neptune. there could be an unexpected loss of money for example, a sudden breakup or argument or even death. something will happen that will surely change your view of things and will help you have a major transformation, in order to leave toxicity behind. mars is transiting your 11th house, therefore you could be arguing a lot with others lately, especially with your friends, so be careful to your words in these days.
🧿 manifest what you want, secret skills
the best way for you to manifest is idealizing and acting at the same time. you have both energies combined in your chart, which is great actually! I’d suggest you to first picture what you want in your life, and then do something concrete to manifest it. for example, let’s suppose you want this gucci bag; first, think about it deeply. then, you could try going into a gucci shop and just walk around, maybe even touch that bag. you’ll get results if you believe it! it’s also great to write and read/listen your own positive affirmations, such as 'I love my gucci bag’, 'the gucci bag my mom gave me is amazing’ and so on.
and this is it! thank you again for booking a reading, hope it resonated with you :)

With ARMS being free for the next couple days still I thought I'd talk about it here cus I think it's a pretty neat game. I've included a messy painting for your scrolling pleasure, but from here on out it's all words so strap in for some game design talk.
So ARMS is a fucking video game, it's hard to call it a fighting game just cus it's hard to call anything a fighting game anymore, but it's definitely about fighting and it's definitely a video game so take that as you will. People have a lot of trouble getting to grips with the game, especially the controls, but a lot of that is caused by how much more you can do than you'd initially think, and I really do suggest you try the free trial and mess around with whatever control scheme feels right to you. It was a pretty dark time the first couple months when it wasn't easy to change controls and that definitely hurt arms as a whole i feel which sucks.
It's not the most hardcore complicated video game ever but it makes very good use of the aspects of the game that are simple and loose in order to make a very free-form fighting game, and overall it does a lot of stuff that I personally consider very good design as someone with a big love of multipurpose mechanics and unique mechanics that aren't just gimmicks.
UNIVERSAL ARMS ARE COOL The one part of the game that is universal to all characters is that you got two arms that you throw around and control as they move. How those arms move and how you move around the stage are entirely dependent on the fists and character you pick, leading to very expressive playstyles in spite of every character having the same goal of hitting the other guy with some long-ass slappers.
The different types of arms all fill different purposes based on their shape and trajectory. Some arms are meant for straight forward boxing and clashing fists together, some are slow, heavy arms meant for countering weak punches or putting up defensive walls, some arms curve around the arena to avoid colliding with other arms at all, some have multiple fists to specific defensive options like dodging to the sides, jumping, or sitting in shield, and there's a variety of unique arms for all kinds of weird playstyles, including projectile arms (even though your arms are alright projectiles, they're even more projectile-y) as well as the variety of elemental arms; Elements allow for strengthening your playstyle by increasing factors like arm size, hitstun, arm disabling, movement disabling, knockdowns, knockback, vision impairment and other forms of disruption.
Overall, each arm carries its own benefits and risks, and switching arm layouts between rounds or matches is very similar to counter picking in a standard fighting game, meaning choosing arms is like choosing a character in and of itself. As a result, the game feels a lot more balanced than a lot of fighting games I've gotten into before, as any character has access to any arm, so no character has directly more damage than other characters, and powerful arms can be adjusted for all characters at once. Picking arms is just one half of ARMS' character building, the actual fighter you use also greatly changes the options you have in game, and for the most part follow a type of design philosophy that divides every action into parts, and puts lots of focus into making sure every little part of a games systems are put to use.
THE FIGHTERS AND DIVIDED MECHANIC DESIGN While the arms you chose determine the way your punches will travel and behave, everything relating to movement is determined by your character, and while most characters have the same general movement, every character has something different to offer and augments a very small part of that overall movement to change what kinds of actions each character prefers. To explain that I'll need to give a brief overview of all the movement options in the game, and split them up into parts to make discussing them easier.
Punching As explained earlier, most of this depends on the arm, but having an arm out causes your movement to be reduced, even more so with two arms. You regain all movement as your arm retracts back.
Grabbing By punching with both arms at once, a green band will connect them, and if that band touches the enemy, you will chuck em across the stage and do a good amount of damage. If the enemy punches the green band it splits and the grab is cancelled, but grabs will land even on blocking opponents, so it forms a standard power triangle of punch > grab > guard > punch, etc.
Dashing Pressing the dash button and a direction will let you do a short dash that's faster than walking around, and holding it allows you to do a longer dash that causes your arms to hang to the side and having more overall lag time. Completing a dash without getting hit or having your hands hit will give your arms charge for a short amount of time, increasing their damage or letting them use their elemental properties. If none of your arms are out, continuing to hold dash will cause a character to stand in place and charge up their arms, greatly extending the length of a charge without changing the effects.
Dashing causes punches to curve much stronger in the direction you're moving, and when an arm is out, you can only do the short dash, and when in the air with both arms in, you can do the long dash in the air, but a bit slower.
Jumping Pretty standard jumping, you commit to a jump arch for the most part, but can slow your decent by punching or change your direction with a dash. Landing from a jump is just like finishing a long dash, you gain some charge and can hold the button to charge longer. Jumps have a very notable amount of end lag where you are just fuckin standing there, with only your hands to defend yourself, so while gaining a height advantage is very useful, jumping is overall a risky maneuver.
Jumps can be short or high depending on the length pressed, though jumping with an arm out makes all jumps short. You can also jump out of a dash to jump further.
Guarding When you guard, you block all punches, even weird ones from the side and shit, but can't move. You can hold guard for as long as you want, and your arms will charge after guarding for a second, and you can cancel blocking into literally anything, as well as dash forwards/backwards out of blockstun. While blocking is useful, grabs go through it, and all damage that hits your guard will build up and damage your arms, which can disable them or break through your guard, you also cannot guard if you have a punch out or have a disabled arm.
Also just a side thing that I can't think where else to mention, while I really like how this game is fairly simple, for some reason there's just not a good place to put block on any control scheme. The default for motion control is very slow and not very accurate, and on controller the default is pushing in the stick, which is super awkward. You can remap the controls to anything that's comfortable, and my control scheme is nothing like the default, but the guard button is still never in quite a convenient enough spot, so sometimes it becomes hard to implement. Pretty much my biggest gripe with the game but it's hard to complain about it cus I can't come up with a better solution myself.
Rush A universal counter/super that all characters share. When you have full meter, pressing rush will deflect any fists about to hit you, and cause your punches to be very very fast for the next 3 seconds. Exactly how each arm behaves during rush is arm specific, but the general use of rush is for very big punishes, generally doing around the damage of 2 or 3 clean hits. It's still very possible to block or dodge a rush or to beat it out by sneaking a hit in or using your own rush.
With the basics explained, here's a general overview of how each character splits the movement into fine pieces and makes use of them.
SPRING MAN The funny spring guy is the first character on the list, and as such sets the standard for everyone else. Even with that in mind he's got a pretty defined style. Similar to ryu from streets, spring man lends himself to a grounded defensive style of fighting. Since all his movement is average and jumping is dangerous, he generally wants to stay on the ground and find chances to punish others.
He has two main differences from other characters, the first is pretty beginner friendly and easy to explain: when below 25% health, spring mans punches are always charged. This comeback mechanic is very helpful to beginners but can come with some disadvantages when using different arms, as many arms are slower or less safe to use when charged. His other mechanic is much more advanced than you'd expect of a main character, and that's his deflect. Whenever spring man is charging his punches (holding a jump or dash) and releases the charge before finishing, he will deflect any punches about to hit him just like a rush. Since new players are hardly ever gonna charge their punches, but may panic and dodge out of a charge before getting hit, it has its place for beginners but allows confident players to charge punches whenever they want and to find better punishes by deflecting the opponents attacks.
I really enjoy taking something as insignificant as releasing charge and making it into a conscious action. These are the types of design choices this game is full of that make me happy.
RIBBON GIRL Funny little air woman likes jumping around, and has 4 jumps of decreasing height, allowing her to stay in the air for a very very long time. Having more jumps also allows her to stay in the air long enough to air dash more than once, giving even more air control. As a kind of mixup/quality of life choice, holding an air dash will make her quickly drop to the ground, making her landings unpredictable, which helps when your main strength is constantly jumping, playing the exact opposite type of game as spring man.
NINJARA Funny ninja guy's air dash is a teleport, making his air movement a bit harder to read. His main mechanic is that he has no form of blockstun; when a fist hits his shield, he will teleport in the direction the player is holding and instantly be able to act, giving him the opportunity to punish attacks on block more easily than other characters. I don't play him enough to act like I know what this means for him, and the community memes him up to do nothing but air dash into grab but I'd assume he's a mobile bait and punish type.
MASTER MUMMY The big funny mummy is this games grappler sort of. He has higher throw damage than every other character, and his wide shoulders means his grabs innately have a wider hitbox, which makes catching rolls and dashes easier, but also makes a big target for punching. His jumps are narrow and his dashes are slow, but he has super armor when jumping, dashing, charging, or punching. I haven't brought up health since every character has the same health, but super armor also cuts damage taken in half to avoid the horrible pain of super armoring through a hit with multiple hits and ending up taking way more damage. This makes master mummy one of the beefiest guys in the game, and combine that with his other ability to gain health while guarding, master mummy generally wants to play a really dangerous punish game where he sits in shield to make you hit him, and punishes you by punching through your grabs or armoring through your punches. He also can corner people more easily since his arms are far to the sides, allowing him to hit people trying to run away from him more easily.
MIN MIN Funny noodle lady deflects attacks with her air dash much like spring man's charge release, her grounded back dash also does this, letting her stay pretty safe while retreating specifically. Her main mechanic is that completing a charge or landing a grab will cause her left arm to remain charged until she is knocked down. The possibilities are pretty wide with what an always charged arm can give you, and mainly depends on what arms you use, but overall it gives min min a strong advantage state while keeping a generally safe disadvantage. She's also pretty cute and I wish she'd kick my head off maybe.
MECHANICA Funny girl in a funnier robot will keep any momentum she has while charging, allowing her to slide across the stage with charged arms, or to hover in the air with charged arms. She also has super armor during these charging slides, giving her very hard to punish air and ground movement, but her large size and laggy movements do leave some openings.
TWINTELLE Funny model girl with twintail fists and a scientifically perfect ass (i don't make the rules her model literally has 2 spheres for a butt idk how much simpler you can get) slows down nearby arms while she holds dash, and also causes herself to float in place if she holds an airdash. This makes her charging safer overall, and generally lets her react to things easier and lets her punish easier, or hold the enemies arms hostage while she throws a punch around them. Also a character I don't play much but she seems to mostly be about limiting the opponent and slapping em. Also horny.
BYTE & BARQ Funny robocop and funny robodog fight together using the dogs predictable AI. It doesn't seem very predictable to the other player but its generally pretty simple. The dog punches a second after you do, the dog will roll under you if you hold jump, and he'll generally try to stay diagonally in front of you. When Byte jumps on the dog it will deflect punches like spring man, and he can high jump by holding jump when bouncing, which also immediately charges his arms. With this, the duo can stay airborne and rain down charged attacks at the cost of low mobility. Also, if the dog gets hit byte is by himself for a while and has absolutely no special traits to speak of by himself, this leads to a character with very strong advantage and abysmal disadvantage.
KID COBRA Funny snake has really wide jumps and very slow dashes, but when his fists are charged he instead has even wider jumps and very fast dashes that slide him around, allowing him to dodge punches very easily. In general his gameplan seems to be getting off a jump to get some charge then darting around like a crackhead. He also has much bigger arms than his skinny body would suggest, and a lot of people hated that about him when the game first came out but I don't hear much about it now so idk if it really makes that much of a difference for good players. Anyway another character with drastically unique movement with strong advantage and bad disadvantage.
HELIX Funny goo guy makes squash and stretch into gameplay mechanics. When he jumps, he actually stretches his body up and doesn't leave the ground until you release jump, and will stand in place, but has complete control of his torso, allowing him to juke punches while throwing down charged punches from up high. His lack of ground movement means you can surround him easily in this state, so he can't hold it forever. When helix lands from a jump or performs a dash he'll squash into a little puddle which ducks under punches, though any punches the opponent throws while helix is already in the puddle will aim down at him, meaning he needs to use it sparringly, but he can move all around the floor with charged punches in this form. Essentially he moves super slowly and is easy to corner, but his movement is erratic and slippery and he has lots of ways to get OUT of the corner once you put him in it, and if he has any distance on you he'll give you hell.
LOLA POP Funny clown and part time Dobson fan inflates while guarding and can walk forwards or backwards very fast while blocking, giving them a safe approach or retreat option. Much like ribbon girl, she can hold her air dash to quickly drop to the ground, except she inflates while falling, giving her a quick shield and making her bounce into the air again, letting her bounce over and over to regain charge on her punches. She's very elusive and hard to pin down, but she's a lot bigger and easier to punch then you'd think because of how much she spreads herself out in her animations.
MISANGO Funny tribal man has the tiki mask from crash bandicoot follow him around and change colors every few seconds. Guarding causes the mask to form a pillar in front of Misango that can get in the way of punches and grabs but also blocks the whole fucking screen get out of the way fuck. Completing a charge will put on the mask giving him some benefits until he gets knocked down. Red mask gives him super armor, blue gives him better jumps and dashes, and yellow builds more rush meter and also gives his rush even more deflecting ability. Not a guy I use much or understand the appeal of beyond being versatile I guess but there are some good as misango players so shows what I know.
BOSS CHARACTERS The next 3 characters are characters who were first in the game as bosses, but became playable characters, and is another thing I absolutely love about this game. Its the first game in a long time that makes the bosses be bosses through their character and not through being objectively broken assholes who roadblock you from playing the game. Their personalities and playstyle exude the powerful presence they have and helps round out the really good cast.
SPRINGTRON A funny robot copy of springman who has mostly the same size, slightly slower speed, and the same deflect on charge ability, but no comeback mechanic. What makes this character unique from the springer is that following through and completing his charge will instead put out a gigantic deflect that disables any punches it deflects, and will charge his arms for 9 seconds, the longest charge length of any character. The big deflect can be countered by just waiting for it to come out and attacking springtron while he finishes the move, but it makes him a very scary version of springtron who can punish you much harder at the cost of some versatility.
DR COYLE The funny mastermind scientist villain makes herself seem bosslike by having a drastically different control scheme from the rest. She floats around, so floating is considered her grounded state, meaning she always has access to short and long dashes, but can't charge by jumping. Holding jump causes her to elivate, forcing the opponent to punch up at Coyle and giving her constant heigh advantage while still being able to shoot around with dashes. Her charge is much like mechanicas but without super armor, and helps to keep her moving around. In addition, when coyle fully chages, one of her arms will duplicate, allowing her to throw out the same punch twice, giving powerful pressure to her neutral. The opponent can see which arm is duplicated before she has time to throw the punch, and her charge time is super short so its really easy to know what she's gonna do, but it still creates a threat simply by existing. Overall a very cool villain.
MAX BRASS Funny fucking CHAD. The guy from the painting at the start and my mans of choice, so I think quite highly of him obviously. The primary antagonist of the game and champion of the sport, Brass is genuinely just a tough guy who wants to have fun, completely betraying the imposing image he gives off and the general idea of "final boss = bad guy". He is a slower, wider character than most, and shares the deflect mechanic with spring man when releasing a charge, but when he fully charges, he will expand all of his muscles to become even wider, move faster, and have super armor and charged punches for 5 seconds. Like spring man, at the last 25% health, Brass will always be charged, which include being buffed up, which has its pluses and minuses.
This creates a character with the defensive strength of spring man, and the cornering ability of master mummy, giving him an overpowering image of beating down the opposition with his strong advantage state, combined with the an imposing "final form" when he's down to the wire. Like most of the cast, he has a tough time in disadvantage as a result, and his wide shoulders cause him problems with characters who can get close to him quickly or who move around too much.
While separate from his actual character, the stage you fight him on takes place at sunset, and the sun shines against his back, giving him a really strong silloute which is even more imposing when he buffs up or is own low health. Really has been a while since i've been so impressed by the presentation of a boss fight, especially for a boss who is actually really fair.
HEDLOK So this isn't an actual character, but is still part of the boss list and is yet another thing I think is super cool and well designed in this game. Hedlok is a robotic head with exaggerated facial muscles that latches onto peoples head and makes copies of their arms. This is used in the grand prix mode to make a rematch with Max Brass where brass has 6 arms instead of 2, and that giant head matches very well with Brass's giant body. He also appears to make Dr Coyle's fight more imposing as she flies around with those 6 arms. While thats all he does in the "story" mode, Hedlok can function on the head of any member of the cast with any combination of arms, and 2 of the game modes online incorporate this by having players team up against a CPU with hedlok, or letting players fight over hedlok to beat each other to death with him. I am really impressed with the design functioning to perfectly that any character can be augmented by the simple addition of 4 more arms without sacrificing any gameplay elements. It's really great how none of the game is wasted, as even the closest thing to a super boss is still considered from a player's point of view.
While just having more arms sounds objectively better, and for the most part it is, the game is still always fair, and as such these advantages still come with downsides for the hedlok wearer, the biggest being that you don't punch the 6 arms separately, they punch in sets of 3 of the same arm one after the other when a punch comes out, and all arms curve the same way. This makes the pressure strong but predictable, and also increases the time the arms stay out after initially punching, leaving a large weak point at hedlok's flank. Hedlok does have a much more powerful rush that can hit for nearly double a normal players rush, but this is to encourage players to block and dodge to the sides around hedlok, as a stationary target is all hedlok can really chew up.
STAGES Much like the characters, the stages are all wildly unique despite not being very difficult to describe, the feature a variety of heights and sizes, as well as various obstacles like pillars and trampolines, and no stage is just a boring simple arena (except sparring ring, whose gimmick is being a literal boxing ring). Stages like Spring arena, Spring stadium, Mausoleum, Sky arena, Ramen Bowl, and Sparring ring all provide different experiences through their minor changes in shape and height. Stages like Ninja college, Buster beach, Via dolce, and [NAME REDACTED] provide long, thin arenas which put more emphasis on height and straight forward defenses. Then there are stages like DNA lab, Scrapyard, Ribbon ring, Cinema duex, and Temple grounds, whose obstacles and weird shapes provide wild and dynamic matches that change with time.
The music for the stages also slaps, there's only really a few melodies that the game uses, but the stages all have such different instrumentation and theming, as well as incorporating original segments that keeps the soundtrack unified without being literally 1 song.
CLOSING THOUGHTS AND DESIGN TIDBITS Reading back most of this I guess I didn't make it very clear what I was talking about with all the divided design stuff but basically I just like how much emphasis is put on every little piece of the games design to pull the most out of it. It's amazing to have a game with such unique characters when all the attacks are universally shared. Some other small things from this game that are good touches for me are.... -Online lobbies are super easy to use, unlike a lot of first party nintendo online shit, and allow changing characters and arms without holding up any action or needing to leave and come back. -Online lobbies also have these cute little bubbles that show you what modes other people are playing and how their doing that update in real time, so while you aren't spectating directly, you do get to enjoy some amount of involvement in others matches while waiting for your own. -The other game modes in the game make great use of the same universal mechanics to offer wildly different experiences with the hoops mode, volley ball, and target breaking contests. -The tutorials are what a lot of people need in a fighting game that they don't think they need, and that's opponents who "spam" and do just one thing while fighting, giving you the chance to learn how to play around those strategies and become better. -You unlock the universal arms for character by playing a fun minigame that rewards your ability to actually play the game. This mode also favors giving arms to the character your playing while also spreading out some of the arms to other characters to encourage you to mess around. It also won't give you an arm if it won't be of any use to you, while lots of other games would love to waste your time with duplicates that mean nothing to you. -You can set controls to anything now, including changing what the motion controls do, and you can have any amount of duplicate inputs to help make your gameplay more comfortable.
Overall, while I talk about how simple the game is, it is still a very tough game due to how much freedom you have in your combat and how deep it can get. I love the game and I still get absolutely shitcanned by the top 3 difficulties, also there's lots of people who are way good at this game, but I'd like to see more from it in general cus it kinda died a sad death due to bad initial impressions, but smash has finally done one good thing and tried to help out a game get another shot, so hopefully things go well for the game.
Thanks again to anyone dumb enough to listen sift through this shit, if you were cool enough to have read it then you can add me on switch and fight me in ARMS or something idk. Here's my code, SW 7001 1122 2464. If you add me without having read this entire post I will know and you will regret it. Regardless, have a wonderful night and stay safe gamers.
#ARMS#my art#long ass post#juvenile rant#Max Brass#never had a post that was both art and rant but lets try it and see how it goes#also holy fuck this is long#good luck if you try to read this shit

good morning love! (or afternoon for you hehe)
deku vs kacchan part 2 is my favorite ep of the entire series actually. i’ve watch that ep so many times as well it’s just perfect. i got into them when i watched that episode actually! the voice acting god..... literally shivers. now that i think about it it might even be my favorite anime ep of all time help. i just love how bakugou lets it all out and we get to see that side of him.. the insecure scared child he tries to hide. god i could ramble about it forever idk just love it. OH YOU WATCHED THE MOVE RIGHT AFTER? a scene with bakugou and todoroki is guaranteed a good time.. and they work so well together. haha that’s such a nice coincidence tho their dynamic is great in that movie even if it’s mostly kiribaku sjsksjk. what do you think about kiribaku btw?
RIGHT!!! at least we have a couple days to decide hihi.... paimon no longer emergency snack.. only seelie. 🥴 oooh? what kind of thing have you envisioned? (if you wanna share ofc!)
i’ve seen so many people mention that!! like one of the worst parts of the game is that in the higher level you get the less there are to do.. ssjksjdk at some point all you can do is grind domains and try to level up shdkdfhdj
LEVEL 40 INTO A LEVEL 70+ FIGHT ok that’s honestly hilariously brave doesn’t she like die right away 😔 oh yeah you’ll be leveling up Again soon *praying for you*... can’t believe they don’t keep the easy bosses anymore sjdkfh that’s so rude. this game is just grind grind grind. WE NEED A BENNY STORY SO BADLY. like imagine a story with him wanting to seek out diluc because he wants to learn how to fight from a master or something like that. i saw it in a comic and i can’t stop thinking about it 😭 all of them deserve stories!!! there’s so many ways they could make it happen pls mihoyo... chongyun x xingqiu story... <333
shfkjdskdjhf nope right now i’m playing with noelle as my main damage dealer, traveller, lisa and barbara actually. so i think i have a pretty good balance atm.. 2 long range 2 short range-ish. i usually trade out barbara for another character if i have to tho, hehe. that’s only combat though ^ benny is with me when we explore. mood is me having a 5 star and not even using her... i still need to think of ways qiqi could fit into the group yk. is your group still looking the same as before? ooooh if you could rank the elements what would your ranking look like?
172!!!!! that’s a bit short though when you said tall i thought like... 190 or something sjksjdxk. wait how tall are You?
oh i just meant like... people bashing others for spending too much money on the game vs those that bash people for not spending money and complaining that they don’t get 5 star etc? idk yt comments can be so ugly though so it’s a good thing that you don’t read them sjdjdjdkd
that’s super smart!!! you just follow along the plan and delete when you come to the part. must feel so satisfying too i imagine. haha, what little notes i have i put in the notes app and just check up on when i need to. sometimes i even forget they’re there shdkdhsks. my notes are filled with half-assed dialogue or random one words notes that don’t make any sense to me anymore.. nskdhddjdj
you’re right!! so you write at night? sometimes i just open docs on my phone and write a bit before i sleep and when i wake up it’s either a grammatical mess or just... super bad hskshd the brain is simply too tired to create anything shakespeareian
nooo i’ll def check these out and let you know what i think. i’ve seen halsey being in pretty much every klance playlist on spotify so i imagine she portrays their vibes pretty nicely. doesn’t she have a song she sings about being blue and red or something... shdjfhdj such a bad description but i see it being used in edits a lot. also now that i think of it melanie has a song called pacify her that i really like!! do you like it?
THATS SO CUTE YOU ARE A CRYBABY. 🥺 same here tbh i actually like crying sometimes... sjskdjdjd like you said it just feels nice to get it all out. i cry to almost movie or series or book i read i’m a super emotional person but i also think it adds to the experience? you feel more immersed in it that way.
RIGHT??? ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!!! and it’s our boys 😭 and they’re cuddling 😭 under the sun 😭 ssjdjdhdjdj 😭
can’t wait to hear from you again <3 yours, ma <3
good night! more like ahhah
:o!! that’s so legendary of them wow.. <33 and yeah honestly the voice acting is phenomenal.. and all the implications behind the fight too? bakugou finally opening up? midoriya understanding that what he needs is to fight him? ugh. kiribaku is fine! fhdsjfks my brain is so full of todobaku that any other ship is really just... in the background hfskjfs but i can appreciate the relationship they have! with kiri being the only one bakugou has really acknowledged and seeing as being on the same level, that iconic hand clasp when bakugou was being rescued... i have a kiribaku fic in my drafts but idk if i can ever get to it ahha. you like them a lot right?
ikkk also i didn’t know we had to wait until the very end to buy? i have more than enough to buy it rn but when i clicked it said ‘must explore area 14 first’ and i was just... bruh. AHAHAH. okay so in my mind it’s like.. chongyun at a funky angle we’re kinda looking up at him and his body is like bent down towards us fhsdkjs idk how to describe it but i can picture it very well but i also cannot put it to paper/screen. and then his clothes are just black instead of white! HAHAH. tho i kinda wanna see if i can draw a xiao first to offer up to the gacha gods hfsdjkfs (and if i can i’ll do a version w a dark outfit too for u hehe)
legitttt im literally just logging in and grinding the talent domains every day fhsdkjfhskfhjd there are some artifacts i want as well but the domain is literally SO difficult for me fuck.
i just go in and use her skill then heal a bit and switch right away fhsdkjfsd it going alright! and then i go ham with my other 3 charas and switch back to her to heal again fhskfjd. OMGGG that’s so cute please... i miss diluc too... come back!! i wish we had a way to replay the old quests even if we get nothing out of them like i just wanna experience it again ya know.
oooo! that’s pretty nice. hfskjd you could switch barbara out for qiqi! since she’s a healer as well. omg wait you have lumine right? so your combat team has no males? legendary 😩 we love fighting queens! ya! traveller, chongyun, xiangling, fischl. and then i switch depending on the domain/boss i’m gonna fight. hmm elements I think would go: anemo, cryo, electro, pyro, hydro, geo, dendro? LMAO i reckon if i had diluc tho pyro would be higher... i also almost forgot to add geo to that list lmaooooooo oops, hbu??
I JUST SAW THE LINK.... AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! the bestest boys look how cute they’re sjdkfjdjjdd i’m obsessed. the picture where benny has his back turned sjdudjdjddnd stop. 🥺 they’re so neat. 🥺 also NO ARE YOU SERIOUS? that’s so upsetting are you gonna try it out nonetheless or do you think it’s too risky?
they’re SO neat!!! and bennett facing the other way was so fhskjfd yeah cute <3333333 I KNOWWW IM SO SAD :((( and no...... im not gonna try 😭😭😭 i told my brother about it too and he asked how many rolls i was at and i said 70 and he was straight up ‘you can’t try then’ and i was like ‘i know 😔😔’. @ xiao... i am giving up xingqiu rate up for you 😤😤😤😤 ugh i hope i can still get xingqiu in xiao’s banner tho even tho the chances will be shit. are you gonna roll ganyu’s banner?
FHSKJFSD NOOOOOO don’t tell me 172 is average for you wtf... (apparently the average male height in japan is 160cm! for reference ahah) and i myself am. one hundred and. fifty something cm hfsdjfhskjdfhskdjfhw9uehdsifhwsdkjfhsdkfhsd 😔 big sighs lmaoooooooo. how tall are you? (im assuming much taller 😔😔😔😔😔)
ooh notes app? nice ahaha. fhdkjfhskfsk hdthat’s the mood tho! if i don’t have my laptop with me i’ll write out everything on notes first then transfer to my laptop~
AHAHAH yeahhh i think mostly i do? bc during school times i’ll only write after i’m done with my work which = night time. for a while Peak writing time for me was like 1am lmfao but i do that in a like half-asleep half-conscious state so when i come back the next day at a “normal” time i run into the same issue as you fshdfkjshfs
she does!!! it’s called colours 😩 but i think the one i related to voltron most is control! there was this really good shiro edit with that song i still remember it to this day <3 yeah i do!!! i like most of melanie’s songs actually ahahah. i think my favourite for a while was show and tell~
it totally does!! like it’s satisfying as well you know... like the characters have gone through so much and you experienced that with them so it’s natural to get emotional about it. that reminds me, what kind of books do/did you read? did you read all Those YA novels ahah talking about crying has reminded me how i cried reading those..
<333 i wanna be there with them 😩 actually no i want to BE them 😩😩😩
eager for your response <33 love, c.r.

Thoughts on Fruits Basket 2019 2nd Season Ep8: “It’s The Truth, Isn’t It?”
In spite of my worries about if this series might get delayed due to the whole pandemic situation, it still seems to be chugging along just fine, and with the state of emergency lockdown apparently being lifted in Japan, I think it won’t experience any delays if they haven’t happened already, so that’s nice.
Anyway, this was another really good episode, even if it’s mostly a transitional episode to set up for the big confrontations and drama in the next couple of episodes.
Thoughts under the cut.
As I expected, this episode adapted chapters 60 and 61, and if I’m remembering the manga right then it’s another really faithful adaptation that doesn’t change or remove or add much. Which works just fine, like it did last week, since there’s nothing you need to change here.
With how the pacing’s been going for the beach arc thus far, it’s safe to assume that the next episode will adapt chapters 62-63, and the episode after that will adapt chapters 64-65, so the pacing should stay the same. I thought they might rush through this arc a bit, after how they adapted three chapters in one episode a few episodes ago, but on average this has been about the same as it’s always been.
I still have no idea if/when they’re going to adapt the chapters about Hatori and Mayu though, lol. Definitely not before this arc ends, at least. And since they’re gonna have to change the context and timing of it now that it won’t happen during the beach arc, they could just put it in literally anywhere. I honestly kinda think it might work best if they push it all the way to season 3. If season 2 ends where I think it will, then there won’t be quite as much material left after that as they’ve adapted per season thus far, so pushing some chapters to season 3 would help fill it out to being the same length as the first two seasons. Plus it’s pretty much the end of Hatori’s development arc, from what I remember, so it’d make sense to have it happen closer to the end of the series.
Anyway I really liked this episode, but there’s not a whole lot to say about it, since most of it’s just more developments with Yuki and Kyo in different ways, and I think I’d just be repeating what I said last week if I talked much about it, lol.
The stuff with Rin was nice, though. The anime’s really doing a good job of capturing her intense personality with the visuals and voice-acting. Although the way that her horse form is drawn is still kinda hilarious to me. The combination of realistic horse anatomy mixed with anime pretty girl hair and eyes is really jarring.
I still wish the story did a bit more to explore the whole situation with her living with Kagura’s family, but that’s not really an issue with the anime. I honestly keep forgetting about it, since I feel like this is one of the few times it’s ever mentioned.
The whole scene with her and Kagura is basically just setting up for the Kagura-focused episode we should get a few episodes after the beach arc ends, so I’ll just wait and talk about it then.
Also, Tohru immediately becoming a disaster bi whenever Rin’s around is extremely good, lmao.
Maybe I’m just biased since I’ve never been a huge fan of his character in general, but I feel like Yuki’s almost aggressive princeliness and confidence in this episode was a little obnoxious. It’s not like it’s any different to the manga, though. I think part of it’s just that it feels like the story is trying to have it’s cake and eat it too by commenting on the forced and shallow nature of Yuki’s whole princely attitude, while still using it as genuine fanservice and ship-tease. Just because they don’t get together doesn’t mean that Takaya and the anime staff didn’t know what they were doing when they made all these scenes of Yuki getting all up in Tohru’s personal space and whispering to her and stuff, lmao.
On the note of his content in this episode, I don’t really get why there’s any confusion or disagreements about how they translated his use of ‘oresama’ as ‘someone better than you’. It’s a pretty literal and accurate translation, and it doesn’t sound too unnatural in English. I think maybe some people don’t realize that even in Japanese he’s straight up just being arrogant and condescending because he’s annoyed at Kyo.
Along those same lines, I’m still surprised by how many people just don’t seem to grasp the concept of Akito being an abuser, and the Somas not being able to go against her. On the one hand, yes there’s complicated supernatural stuff going on with them, but on the other hand the Soma family is literally just an abusive cult. I think some anime-only people might be thinking too hard about it because they know there’s supernatural elements tied into it that haven’t been fully explained yet, but it’s pretty straight-forward at the end of the day.
Anyway, aside from all that, Kyo didn’t get a whole bunch of focus in this episode since that’ll be what the next episode focuses on, but I’ve still always liked the part where he explains what the history of his beads are. I don’t thin kit comes up again after this arc, but it’s a neat expression of how the cat spirit in general is a very literal shackle that Kyo has to live with.
I don’t usually comment on the visuals and art direction and stuff, but it’s really cool to me that the anime staff are clearly making a conscious effort to gradually depict Yuki and Kyo as getting physically older as the series goes on. I feel like sometimes it leads to some shots that look a bit stiff, since it comes across like the animators don’t entirely have it pinned down, but it’s nice.
I’ve seen some people say that the animation in this episode was worse than usual, but I didn’t really notice, outside of a couple of shots. There were still lots of moments that I thought looked really nice, though. There were probably some genuine production issues going on with this episode, though, since it’s listed as having over 25 animation directors compared to the usual 5 or so, which is probably why there would have been some slight differences in how certain scenes looked.
Either way, I’m really excited for the next episode, since it’s where the beach arc gets even more serious and heavy than it’s already been, and all sorts of concrete character development and progress start happening. I’m curious to see how they animate certain scenes, but we’ll see how it all goes next week.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - The Grookey Family
810: Grookey
And so, finally after 22 reviews, we get to see a Grass Starter. And erm, spoilers. Competition for the Gen 7 starters these are not. Even granting it's gonna be a tall order to top Gen 7's starters for me, these tragically can't even find a candle to hold up to them.
Grookey from day 1 has felt really underwhelming to me and my opinion on it has not improved a bit. It stinks to have the Grass starter, the starter type I've always traditionally started with, just strike out completely this time. Even if I wasn't too thrilled about Chespin either, it had a fun spin on a hedgehog design. Grookey here is. It sure is a monkey, yeah. Didn’t we already get a funny Grass monkey with Pansage though?
I don't know what it is about friggin monkeys. And how Pokemon can't ever seem to make me be able to give a damn about any of them other than Darumaka. (And that’s if you even consider that one a monkey.) Their designs have just always felt on the samey side to me even if we disqualify the Gen 5 elemental monkeys. I can't even muster up the emotional strength to get angry at Grookey for tarnishing the Grass starter's excellent run up until this point. It's just so harmlessly blasé.
It has one little personality quirk where it takes the stick out of its “hair” and uses it as not just a weapon in battle, but also it loves to drum with it. Very obviously flagging where it will be heading in an evolutionary path.
Personal Score: 5/10
811: Thwakey
I keep seeing people dunk on Thwakey but it's a monkey with at least a LITTLE fun going for it. It's got an odd body shape that looks a little more imaginative than its line-mates, and at least it pulls off the “just a regular monkey” look in a slightly cooler looking way than your usual Poke-Primate. I dunno, I just likes its face in a way I find a little hard to pin down.
But when it pulls out the sticks in its hair, it gets a fun bit of extra flare in a leafy mohawk! So it's got a cool dynamic model to go with it.
Though I will say a big irk for me about the design is how top-heavy the color distribution is. Had one of the colors either moved down to its legs or got removed entirely, it'd look a little less egregious, but it just makes the 'mon look uncomfortably naked. Don't be making me think of naked monkeys, man.
Something I will give this line credit for is that it continues the Grass Starter tradition of pre-history in an interesting way. And since I've admittedly been pretty on-off about explaining them, I might as well recap it so far. And since this may be the last time we talk about Starters for a few years, I might do the same for the other Starter lines and their themes, as well as how these new starters fit in.
Venusaur is easily the biggest stretch since this “extinct creatures” theme feels like it fell onto the Grass starters by accident or something. Venusaur was always meant to be more of a toad, not even being speculation at this point since it's been outright stated it is a one. It does, however, hold plenty of dinosaur-esque features which is probably why English localization has given it the “saur” in its name to begin with. Then comes Meganium, being an unambiguous sauropod. Sceptile has features of raptors and other feathered dinosaurs. Torterra goes from a tortoise to becoming notably part-ankylosaur. Serperior started out as a snake with limbs, showing a line-long progression of lizards losing their limbs over time to become modern snakes. Chesnaught evolved into the extinct mammal, glyptodont. And finally, Decidueye the Ghost-owl becomes the fairly recently extinct Stilt Owl.
Before the mass leak, a lot of fans speculated to keep up with this trend, that Grookey would eventually become a Gigantapithecus, an extinct species of ape. But turns out it's a bit more nuanced than that. As we'll see, Rillaboom is a much more average looking ape. Grookey could very well be based on cavemen. What, with them being primates that developed enough to start using sticks as tools. Even down to using them to create a musical beat! That's really clever! It's like, the one glimmer of super creative theming in this whole line.
Personal Score: 6/10
812: Rillaboom
And obviously the theme is still going into Rillaboom here, with it being a touch more human than the usual ape Pokemon as well as throwing in a bit of neanderthal into the mix with its large brow and all. But I can't get behind this decidedly basic ape. It's a Pokemon ape in a world where we've already gotten plenty of Pokemon apes so I have to wonder what was the point of introducing a new Pokemon that's even more grounded than the already pretty grounded; albeit cartoony, apes are. Why would you look at the lineup of so many grounded and fairly realistic Poke-Apes and think “Y'know what Pokemon is missing? An EVEN MORE grounded and realistic ape!!”
And yes, it gets a fun little drum set and some drum sticks made out of a tree trunk and some branches. That's neat and all, but I still think a Pokemon aught to be visually interesting even without its accessories. In exactly the same way Rotom is interesting even before it gained new forms from its ability to possess appliances, or that Decidueye is still a cool and eye-catching design even before you learn that it can use its arms and hood draw-strings as a bow. Take away Rillaboom's drum set and what does Rillaboom have? A giant leafy mullet, I guess. Though even then, it's odd how many repeated motifs we get this Gen. We already have a wild-haired glam rocker in Obstagoon, so why do we need another one, especially if it's even more downplayed? I guess they just really felt the need to have an entire band between Rillaboom on drums, Toxtricity on guitar and bass, and Obstagoon on vocals. Ehh.
I think that's the core of why these starters feel lukewarm at best to me. Normally the starters are at least competently designed, and very much made in mind that they're going to be the centerpiece of Pokemon marketing for the next 3 or 4 years. If this line had just been a mid-game random line of Grass monkeys, I wouldn't have found it weird at all.
...But at least it comes with a fun stealth pun! What do you say when you send your Rillaboom out into battle? “Go, Rillaboom!”
GoRillaboom.
Hah.
Personal Score: 4/10
Boy I can’t wait to see that new Mythical Pokemon, which is very likely yet another monkey. Sigh.

Kingdom Hearts BBS, DDD Blind Thoughts
Spoilers for Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and earlier titles in the series. Also warning that I have insomnia and these are utter ramblings on the last 24 hours of blindly binging the Kingdom Hearts series as a total newcomer to the series. Haven’t played three yet and just started Dream Drop Distance. With that warning.....
Birth by Sleep was a ton of fun. We ended up needing to grind a little to make Aqua playable, but that ended up forcing me to learn the game mechanics much deeper, and even my friends leveled up their playing of the game! It was really cool to unlock some of the high tier spells like Triple Firaga and Thundaga Shot, although I do wish we had gotten to chance to unlock even more. I should remember how much more fun the game was after some internet research.
It was very satisfying to unlock the true ending so easily. We had only missed 2 of the 12 required Xehanort Reports. The 2 we needed involved grinding the arena for maybe an hour total and then 5 minutes of finding a treasure chest. We were then able to roll smoothly from Aqua’s finish into the final episode.
Aqua’s fight against Braig was laughable easy, but the final fight against Vanitas/Ventus was slightly tougher. The real challenge was fighting Terra/Xehanort but then the REAL challenge was phase 2 of that fight. I got them all on the first try! It was a really enjoyable flex of my gaming skills in front of the friends.
From a story standpoint, Birth By Sleep had my favorite story of any KH game so far, by a huge margin. I liked certain elements of the KH2 ending (Riku and Sora teaming up, Kairi’s keyblade) but BBS has been the only game where I had any sense of purpose or desire to see how it ends. They did a great job of having each of the 3 routes reveal new information even if played out of order (Xehanort taking over Terra, Vanitas having Sora’s face, Aqua taking care of comatose Ventus).
Obviously it helps to have Leonard Nimoy and Mark Hamill join the cast, plus Aqua’s VA absolutely dominates every scene she’s in. Terra’s VA reminds me a lot of Leon’s monotone edgy boy voice acting (David Boreanaz or otherwise). Of course Ventus shares a VA with Roxas, but the twist of Vanitas being Haley Joel Osmont is really great because he sounds so much older. I think it would have been easier to predict that twist if I had recently heard more of HJO’s Sora voice in Dream Drop Distance or KH3.
Aqua is, of course, the great standout character from BBS. From the start, we got attached to her because of her known prevalence in KH3 on top of her cool design, Arrow voice actress, and the fact that we could finally play a girl (plus one with more human proportions than Kairi). It worked out really well how we saved her for last and had to kind of unlock the secrets of her play style by finally mastering the various gameplay systems.
I much prefer the command deck system compared to the gameplay of KH2. To be fair, these are the only two KH games I’ve beaten. I’ve only barely touched KH1 and Chain of Memories. I felt like BBS did a good job of fusing the action gameplay of KH2 with the (potentially) satisfying deck building of CoM.
Re: Coded is a fucking mess. I might actually go back and play it on a DS emulator just to see the gameplay, but god damn the story is a flimsy excuse for a retread. I almost wish we had skipped it entirely, but just watching the opening and ending worked out pretty well. In the end, it’s literally just “Mickey is gonna give Sora the memories of all the other protagonists” which is badass but probably going to be mentioned again before being relevant. I will say that the ending with Riku and Sora being summoned by Yen Sid for the mark of mastery test is fucking badass and elicited quite the reaction from all three of us. The series is finally starting to have that feeling of “the stakes are high and I want to see what happens with these characters”.
This was expressed most fully in the intro to Dream Drop Distance. Step 1: invoke Disney Magic with a silhouette of magician Mickey. Step 2: Orchestral Simple and Clean. Step 3: use entirely new cinematic footage instead of splicing together an AMB. Step 4: show every keyblade wielder standing side by side. Apparently that’s enough to make me actually cry. We all got very excited by this intro, so it was a bit of a let down to start the game and be seemingly replaying KH1 again.
Of course that’s not the whole game, but I’m still not sure what the whole game is. Riku and Sora have to...wake the seven sleeping worlds to earn their mark of mastery? Are they dreaming all of this, or what? Seeing The World Ends With You was cute for like a second before realizing that I know almost nothing about it. Flowmotion is similarly kinda neat at first but quickly becomes annoying, but maybe it will grow on me with time.
Speaking of fun at first but quickly annoying: Dream Eaters. The Pokémon-esque system seems like a time waster that’s perfect for 3DS but maybe not so much for our tourist play through. The Dream Eater designs are cute when they’re on your team, but strike me as a bit annoying when fighting the same ones over and over. Heartless and Nobodies felt more generic, but that made them feel a little less repetitive to fight over and over. I see the same god damn rainbow colored Panda every god damn fight. To be fair, I think each world randomly contains certain types of Dream Eaters every time you visit it.
Speaking of Worlds, I’m not really looking forward to Hunchback of Notre Dame or Pinocchio world, but at least they’re new worlds instead of retreading Halloween Town, Agrabah, Olympus, Neverland for the millionth time. What I am looking forward to is The Grid from Tron Legacy! I don’t think we’ve seen any Disney world that specifically spotlight a sequel to a Disney world we’ve already seen. We revisit Halloween Town, Agrabah, Beast’s Castle, Olympus, Atlantica but only for some minor follow-up fluff. The Tron world in KH2 meant a lot to me having just seen the film. The Lightcycle combat could’ve been a little more true to the original, but the visuals were so faithful plus having Tron’s actual actor was so fucking cool. Sora and gang getting Tron outfits was so cool too. Also would’ve liked to have a disc fight, but the Sark/MCP fight was spot on. Hopefully we can get both of more in DDD!
It’s a perfect excuse to revisit The Grid since Legacy looks so different from the original. Now, The Grid is not a true world in KH2 but instead part of Hollow Bastion’s computer system. I’m curious if The Grid in DDD is a sleeping world or something that exists within another world, or if it is somehow connected to the KH2 Tron world (which would get real weird real quick if that version of the Grid is a copy of the original, but Legacy is supposed to be set in The Grid 30 years later).
Oh, I like that DDD has the command deck system but I don’t like the pets, I don’t like the link system, I don’t like reality shift, and I don’t like flowmotion. It just seems like BBS with all the RPG features crammed into the pet system with a bunch of gimmick infused into the combat system. Admittedly, gimmick is one of the biggest strengths of the KH franchise, but flowmotion just seems silly. Perhaps I’ll like it more when I get used to it and potentially get to customize the moves.
I’m not sure yet how I feel about the drop system, but I do like getting to play as Riku. I think multiple protagonists is a smart way to stretch the assets and tell 2 stories per world. I rather enjoyed the way Aqua, Terra, and Ventus interacted with some of the Disney worlds. Hopefully we get something similar in some of these worlds.
The dive mini game is definitely gimmicky nonsense clearly designed for the 3DS. In general though, all the games in these collections look great and feel great. I suppose that is why Days, Coded, and Back Cover are cutscenes: to keep the average quality of gameplay roughly somewhere in between KH1 and 2 between all the titles. In fact, I think KH1 is easily the worst feeling out of all the ones thus far. I’ve always complained about KH hopping between systems, but now I can’t really complain about that anymore. My complaint still stands about the games being overly complicated. Plus, the games are clearly taking themselves way too seriously, but that’s very clearly part of the charm.
Really, I suppose the games aren’t that complicated if you heavily condense Chain of Memories, cut out Coded, and try not to think too hard about the phone games. Then it just becomes: Sora defeats the heartless, Sora defeats the nobodies, Roxas backstory, Aqua/Terra/Ventus, training/prep montage, then KH3. Oh, and try to forget that somehow the upcoming rhythm game is canon.

Ciconia Phase 1 Ramblings
Well, it sure was a wild ride, but I enjoyed it quite a bit!
The whole thing was very Heavy and Intense and Long and a lot of stuff happened. I’m not sure I really digested everything yet, but I have Thoughts.
GOD I spent so much time writing all of this... At first I just wanted to make a short Twitter thread about it, but it ended up a lot longer than initially... 😔
Those are just some messy ramblings and I don't think I said any more new or interesting stuff than what other people have already said, but I still felt the need to write it down, so...
Ciconia spoilers for Phase 1 and the tips:
So I thought overall it was pretty good and interesting! As someone who didn’t play the demos, I went in completely blind, and it was a nice read. (As such the flood of Okonogi memes some time ago were kinda confusing to me at first lol.)
It was radically different from Higurashi and Umineko, but that was something I expected (Umineko was radically different from Higurashi, after all.)
I’m not sure if it’s going to hit me as personally as Higurashi and Umineko did yet, or even if I’m going to like it as much — I enjoyed Phase 1, and the story is really intriguing, but it’s not quite on the level of its predecessors for now. Then again, it is only the first part of the story so it’s a bit unfair to compare them now, and I remember I was far from being into Higu and Umi by just their first installments too. So I guess I’ll just have to wait for the other phases and see!
On a technical level, this is definitely ones of Ryukishi’s most sophisticated visual novels — with the big animations and sound effects during the battle scenes, of course, but also with the numbers of different backgrounds and the visuals for the Kizuna thing. The sprites are also my favorites from all of Ryu’s games, they have the uniqueness of his artstyle all while being more polished and with really pretty coloring. And the character designs are SUPER GOOD — the best of 07th Expansion works to me (well, I was still a bit disappointed in Vier’s design, though. I mean. She’s just Takano with a lab coat. You could’ve at least changed her clothes or something, Ryu.) The music was the only thing that was... pretty average. It wasn’t bad, there was a lot of neat OST in it... but there wasn’t really anything memorable either (Alright, except for Apocalypsis Ciconia II. This one was dope as hell and it gave me chills.)
I was pleasantly surprised by how good and compelling the worldbuilding was too, as personally I find this peculiar part of Ryukishi’s writing has always been one of his weakest points. I don’t know much about sci-fi stuff admittedly, so I’m not sure how that would be perceived by fans of the genre, but Ciconia’s world is still quite fascinating — the different factions, the technology and selcom stuff, the way childbirth is managed or the history of World War III, all of that was good. Although to be honest, some stuff felt kinda contrived too (like, sure, let’s say the entire history of WWIII is entirely erased, like that we don’t have to deal with the political issues of our current real world lmao), and I don’t know all of the histories of the countries mentioned, so I can’t really tell if some things were insensitive (for example, how Africa was “unified” by a single king felt a bit off to me, but, er... I don’t know...)
The more absurd elements like the conspiracy theories, the chivalric orders or the freaking ILLUMINATI KINGS were pretty hilarious, honestly. I’m... not sure what to make of them. Obviously none of Ryu’s stories were ever going to be realistic (and well, the entire premise of Ciconia is about children soldiers who have the strength of an entire army in one gauntlet, which is ridiculous enough), but knowing him I wonder how much of this is going to be played straight and how much of this is meta stuff. Especially with all the religious/spiritual references (the blue bodies of Evil Miyao and of the gauntlet girls alluding to the Hindu god Shiva, Seshat being a Egyptian goddess, etc.)
I have more mixed feelings about the plot, and especially the pacing. Most of it was okay, but some scenes were really dragging and redundant. Which, isn’t really something new with Ryukishi’s writing, but here especially with the political stuff and the long blocks of exposition it was... kinda boring and hard to focus on it, and after a while it even felt quite egregious. Some of those parts weren’t needed, or at least didn’t need to be that long. Especially given that after the first hours, there were not a lot of more peaceful moments that would give the player time to breath.
Which is another one of my complaints: a lot of intense things happened, but the narrative rarely give you the time to actually digest those things, especially in the second part of the story. It often pretty much felt like “X event happen > Discussion of X event between the characters > Y event happen > Discussion of Y event between the characters,” and this without any breaks (with the exception of some exposition here and there in between, of course). The events, discussions and characters were interesting enough to more or less keep my attention, but it still felt like too much at times. Part of this may be volunteer, as it put a stressful and opressive feeling on the reader (God, the clock and quotes between each chapters stressed me out a lot lol), and after a while I really felt like I was kinda suffocating with all of this like the characters — but even so I think it would’ve been better to give us some pauses here and there. Which is something we could have had with, say, the tips. I thought it was a shame all of the sixteen tips could only be read once the main story was over, because the narrative could have really benefited from having them fit into the plot or in-between chapters, like in Higurashi.
Also, I know Ciconia wasn’t exactly marketed as an horror story unlike the other WTCs, but hoo boy, I think some of the sequences in it are honestly among the most gory and disturbing things Ryukishi wrote? I haven’t read Iwaihime or TRianThology, so I can’t really say for sure, but damn, those human factories really are big nightmare fuels...
Now, I think the most tricky parts and the ones who are gonna get the most criticisms are, likely, the whole political and military stuff. Ciconia is probably Ryukishi’s most political and provocative work so far, maybe on par with Rose Guns Days — not to say Higurashi and Umineko are not political, they definitely are, but here it truly is in-your-face. Which is not a bad thing, per se, but... let’s say it all depends on how Ryukishi handle and criticize all those stuff down the line in the other installments, when so far it’s been... meh?
Like, the whole military stuff, specifically, was... shaky, at best. The thing with fiction that portray militaries with soldiers as their main characters is that they walk a thin line between just portraying this thing and actively glamorizing it. The narrative was definitely critical of some of it (lol the whole massacre at the end was very obviously there for a reason), and I appreciate Ryukishi often makes a point in his stories to frame a problem with different persepectives... but the whole “healthy military balance” and “Walls of Peace” thing was still iffy, and I’m... unsure about how much of it is going to be criticized within the narrative in the end. Now, again, it is just the beginning of the story, and Ryukishi has always been good at presenting a thing at the start for later on tearing it down to pieces, so... I don’t know.
It’s way too early to decide what kind of themes and messages Ciconia is going to have, so here too I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m just a bit wary given some things that were in RGD were... definitely questionable. Now I actually think Ciconia got to a better start than RGD, but... well. I’m also not really someone who know much about these stuff, so I’m not the best placed to talk about it, but it’s definitely something worth to be under scrutiny.
On the more positive side, there were times where some things felt really, really real, as well as pretty in tone with some of today’s social issues. Like all those news about the terrible things going on in the world and that a war can happen anytime, the military propaganda to recruit young people who “want to fly” in the army but who just end up killing each other, or the feeling that these kids have about how in the end they’re just powerless pawns who can’t do anything used by selfish old men... I saw someone said Ciconia was basically Fuck Boomers: The Game, and... yeah. Yeah, that’s basicaly it lmao. All of the adults being assholes is not new in WTC or even in Ryukishi’s works in general, but here it was definitely a big theme. God even the whole thing at the end about how the planet is dying and that everyone knows it but people just don’t care about it... lmao, if that wasn’t directly referring what we’re living right now with climate change, I don’t know what is.
I just really loved too the way the game was sort of sold as this “cool sci-fi battle royal,” but in the actual story all of those kids are desperately trying to not kill each other, until the very end where everything just goes to hell.
I said it before, but there really was a huge feeling of suffocating and being powerless the more and more you reach towards the end, and the way everything culminated in this huge massacre truly sent shivers in my back. I know at some points I could really feel for the kids who were like “Well, fuck it, let’s just let all those awful people kill each other and the world get destroyed.” The final scene with the Christmas party was really powerful and also so uncomfortable to read, it was really well done.
Otherwise, if there was one work I wasn’t expecting to scream “LGBT+ rights,” it was Ciconia, but here we are I guess lmao. Honestly, that entire conversation was super neat, not just in a “Oh it’s great they acknowledge gay and trans people exist in a positive way,” but also because it really adds a lot to the worldbuilding. I remember some people talking about it when a similar thing happened in the comics of The Legend of Korra, and honestly more stories should do that, not just in term of representation but because, well, it’s just good writing to put this much thought in your fictional world. The conversation in itself was a bit clumsy (GAYS DON’T FUCK), but it also felt very sincere and a pretty believable discussion a bunch of teenagers with very different backgrounds could have on the subject (and I really loved the narrative acknowledge how different cultures and religions feel about those topics, without it being judgemental.) I’m also thankful it was here at all because of the, uh, gay jokes made about Miyao and Jayden early on that were a bit tasteless to me.
(Now it would be even more great if we could have actual canon gay and trans characters too. Ryukishi... please...... I beg you........)
And of course, the characters were also really good!
It was so nice to have such a big diverse cast all constituted of likeable characters, and I was honestly impressed Ryukishi managed to handle it. That was something I was wary of when the game was first released, but in the end I think he did a good job so far. Of course, that’s only from my point of view, so I can’t say if other people found there were some things he did badly or that was offensive...
But personally, I honestly love all of the Gauntlets kids so much. They’re all so good and charming! And I kinda want to adopt them all lol.
I think my favorites for now are Miyao, Gunhild, Naima, Rethabile, Chloe, Koshka, Rukhshana, and Lingji... But like I said, they are all really good it’s hard to choose!
However... when it comes to their writing I felt Ciconia went in the continuity of Rose Guns Days and concentrated more on the plot than the characters, and that’s something that... honestly bother me a bit. I liked RGD, but Ryukishi’s writing is still at its strongest when it comes to very human, character-driven narratives, like Umineko and Higurashi. Like I said, I love all of these kids a lot, and some of them have pretty solid characterization and screentime... but in the end a part of me still feel like we didn’t really... get to know them much, if that makes sense? Even with the main ones, like Miyao, Jayden or Gunhild — most of their scenes were principally focused on the Plot Stuff, and not much about them as people.
I know there are a lot of folks who criticize the slice-of-life parts of Higurashi and Umineko, where there are lots of scenes of just the characters spending time with each other or goofing around and that don’t do much to advance the plot — and in a way I understand that, because yeah, some of these scenes can be pretty long to get through and drag the pacing. But personally, I always thought those sequences are very important. Even if some of them are admittedly unnecessary or are a bit too long, they’re really needed to humanize the characters and make you invest in them — which was something that was a bit lacking in Ciconia. Basically I guess I’m saying the VN needed more slice-of-life stuff, and that rejoin with what I said earlier — that including some of the tips in the plot here and there instead of putting all of them at the end would have really helped with that.
Now, that said, again I’m aware this is just the first part of the story. I understand Ryukishi needed to have all of those exposition blocks and truly pose the basics of his story first and foremost. So I’m really hoping that after that he’ll be able to focus more on its characters — especially on those who got almost no screentime, like the Yeladot Shavit and Cairo Squad girls. Having characters and human grounded moments is especially important in a story where war is a big focus like Ciconia.
Now, on the characters themselves...
Miyao was a really charming protagonist, and I love him a lot! He was so endearing to me during the whole story. He was instantly more likeable as a male protagonist than Keiichi and Battler, where it took me some time for them to grow on me — principally because, well, Miyao don’t have the shtick of sexually harrassing the female characters around him, which was profoundly annoying in the other WTCs. I loved his serious but caring and friendly personality, his friendship with Jayden and Gunhild and with all the other kids, and his anger against the adults trying to use him and the others. His relationship with his father too was interesting. His interactions with Evil Miyao were also pretty intriguing, even if I’m not sure yet what to think of him being a “murder program” or about what even is Evil Miyao.
Now, the only thing I am on the fence about him is... his whole DID thing and Meow. Like, on one hand, I think it is neat to have a likeable protagonist with a named mental illness, and the narrative felt sincere on not wanting to present this as a bad thing and just a part of who Miyao is... but on the other hand, there were all the jokes made as a result of this, which made the whole thing pretty awkward to me. Furthermore, there’s the problem that this “CPP” thing is not really DID, as if I recall it doesn’t actually seem to come from any trauma-related reason, and is almost a made-up condition? It kinda gave me Kara no Kyoukai flashbacks, in which Shiki, the protagonist, also has an alter, but it is not as a result of trauma or anything — it has a fantasy explanation. And, I mean... An author taking an actual, real condition that a lot of people have to bend it at their will to fit a story isn’t super cool, especially if you’re going to make some jokes at its expense... The other kids calling out Jayden on how he didn’t act properly with Miyao about this was nice though. (Also, now that I think about it, did Miyao just... randomly told all of the other gauntlet knights about it? Wasn’t it said that “CPPs” were something most people didn’t like to talk about? It’s a bit odd.) Plus there’s also the fact Miyao is possibly a “program” and it adds another layer of not-so-great stuff... So I’m just really wary of how Ryukishi is gonna handle this going forward...
Those problems aside, Meow herself was... fine. She’s cute, but she doesn’t really have much going on for her. She and Jayden are dorks together and their scenes definitely made me smile, but their relationship still felt kinda shallow so I don’t have much feelings about them as a couple (like, it’s just that to me Miyao and Jayden have a lot more chemistry and have been friends for quite some time, so it’s just odd that he instantly decides to date Miyao’s sister whom he just met. And, also, he was definitely flirting with Miyao before meeting Meow, too.). It was also pretty jarring the way she just... almost disappears once the war stuff began, so in the end I had this disagreeable impression that she really was just here to be Jayden’s girlfriend, and not as a character on her own or to develop Miyao more...
Jayden was pretty neat too! He’s a character that could be “yikes” pretty easily, but in the end he really did come across as a awkward but kind teenage boy who may be clumsy at times but is still trying his best. In fact, I really wish Ryukishi had wrote Keiichi and Battler more like Jayden. It was nice in general that none of the guys in Ciconia acted inappropriately towards the girls (with the exception of Toujirou, I guess. The way he acted towards Valentina especially made me go “ehh dude please no.” Like I know the LATO girls are said to be older than the other kids so they’re probably 18 or something, but still, it was a bit ugh... But even then it wasn’t something that was too overt, so it didn’t bother me too much), because some of Keiichi and Battler’s antics towards the female characters was something that annoyed me greatly. Don’t get me wrong, I did end up liking Keiichi and Battler despite this, they’re both good kids at heart — but it’s possible to write horny teenage boys without them ~comically~ sexually harassing the girls around them, if you feel me? Aside from that, I like that the story made a point to show that Jayden is actually a pretty lonely and kinda socially awkward kid just like Miyao, and that’s why their friendship work so well. On the other hand, though, his character mostly only turned around Miyao and Meow, and so we didn’t get much of him as a person? Which is a bit disappointing as he is meant to be one of the main kids, so I’ll hope he’ll get more interesting later on.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE GUNHILD, she really intrigue me! I wasn’t expecting to love her so much — for the most part I thought she was okay but nothing more... though now that I finished the story, she’s probably my favorite character for now? Her scene in the restaurant with her sibling, and especially the tips focused on her, really got to me. I loved her cool personality and her backstory was really interesting, as well as her relationship with Miyao and Jayden. She seems to honestly like and care for both of them, but at the same time resent them, and the way she obviously have a lot of pent-up anger towards the world and some self-hatred make her a truly compelling character. I’m pretty intrigued by Maya and her relationship with her too. She’s honestly one of the characters towards who I look forward the most, and I really hope Ryukishi will deliver on her.
Chloe has definitely a lot of Rena Vibes, so of course I was going to love her lol. Although honestly for now I find her mostly... confusing. She’s obviously really fucked up (CHLOEVIL), and she made me pretty nervous during the entire story because there was this “Okay so when is she going to snap?” kind of tension with her. And her last scene with Lilja gave me chills... At the same time, her kindness and caring nature as well as her friendship with Koshka, Lilja and the others felt genuine, so it was an interesting contrast. Other than that I wasn’t a fan of the running gag of Okonogi hitting her whenever she mess up (or do not mess up, for that matter)... Like obviously Okonogi is meant to be a Bastard, but the thing being presented as comical made me go :/ I really wish it’s going to stop.
Koshka was cute and also Extremely Relatable in a lot of ways (I, too, would rather spend my time playing silly games on my phone rather than socialize lmao). I love her a lot, and like Gunhild she really fascinate me. I like the fact that she’s meant to be an asocial, cold person but that at the same time it’s pretty easy to see glimpses of the affection she has for Lilja, Chloe or Miyao, and how she’s actually a deeply traumatized and angry teen. I’m pretty intrigued by what kind of “crime” she must have committed and how she ended up being an “equipment”... Not sure what to think about her super brain or the thing about her being some sort of “chosen one” lol. It sounds really shady.
For Lilja, I have to say I wasn’t exactly fond of her at first, but then the small moments we got with her where she obviously care a lot about Koshka and Chloe still got to me. That scene in the tips where she fiercely defends Chloe made me go “awww.” She really give me the impression of being the sort of person to hide her vulnerability behind a tough façade and her odd tics, and in that way she’s pretty similar to Koshka, which is how their friendship feel really special. The revealation at the end that she’s probably faking a lot of her personality and of her friendship with Koshka because it’s an assigment made her and her relationship with Koshka a lot more interesting to me, and I hope it’s going to result in a lot of compelling character stuffs.
Lingji was great! She’s pretty cool. I liked her optimism and her will to do the right thing, and how that actually cover the fact she’s a pretty fragile and sheltered person. Her scene where she break down after her grandfather’s death is really illustrative of this especially, and where I really felt for her too. I think she’s the most interesting character in term of possible development. I quite enjoyed her friendship with Miyao too, but here again I wish these two had gotten more moments together. Like, how much more impactful the scene where Miyao kill her would have been if we had actually seen these two have some intimate moments before? But, oh well...
Aysha was really cool too, and I especially loved the way her sharp and down-to-earth personality contrast to Lingji’s idealism. The moment where she calls out both of her teammates was super good. Momotake was okay, and I love his intense admiration for Lingji (I’m a sucker for male characters really looking up to cool female characters lol)... but otherwise I felt he was honestly the most stereotypical character of the bunch — especially compared to Lingji and Aysha.
NAIMA IS THE BEST, SHE’S MY BABY I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She was my favorite before I even start the game because of her design alone (SHE’S THE CUTEST CHARACTER RYU EVER DESIGNED OKAY), and I wasn’t disappointed from seeing her actual personality. She’s not especially complex or anything for now, but she has a lot of potential. I loved her relationship with Naomi and Stan too — it kinda felt like two older siblings looking after their annoying youngest one reluctantly, but who still have a lot of affection for them. Also she’s such a little badass, I literally cheered out loud during that rescue scene or during the last battle scene where she screams she wants to protect all of her people. I want more of her in Phase 2 pleaaaase!
Naomi was really overshadowed by Naima and Stan, so as a result I don’t have much to say about her. I think she’s cool, and her backstory about how she apparently lost a lot of her memories and emotions is interesting, but again I can’t say much given we barely see her at all. Stanisław was a good boy, but despite the fact we see him a lot during the story, I... don’t really have a lot of thoughts on him? I liked his implied friendship with Gunhild as them being death metal buddies, but we didn’t actually saw them interacting at all, which was a shame.
Rethabile was the coolest character of the cast, I love her dearly! I like how she can be so adorable and such a dork but at the same time she’s probably the one who has her shit together the most out of all the kids. I feel she really has a good grip on politics and how the adults just want to use them compared to the others — which, well, isn’t all that surprising given she’s literally a princess. The scene with her brother’s death was pretty harsh, and I’m sad they didn’t really... put much attention to her reaction to such a traumatic event. I know the plot hadn’t time for that, really, but I feel even Lingji got more focus when her grandfather died, so I wish we had more of that with Rethabile too.
Ishak and Abdou... well, they didn’t really get much time for them either. They seem like nice dudes, and I really love their relationship with Rethabile, how they tease her quite a bit but there’s still obviously a lot of complicity and respect among them. So I hope we’ll get to know them more, especially on an individual level — as for now they were only present as a duo.
The LATO girls were... interesting too. I especially love Valentina, because she really give me Bad Bitch vibes and I love bitchy female characters lol. It’s pretty clear she has some Secrets and I’m really curious about her goals. As for Maricarmen, I thought she was mostly going to be comic relief like the Yeladot Shavit, but towards the end she actually showed some interesting depth so she did grew on me quite a bit.
And then there was just the teams no-screentime lol. Alright, I guess Suparṇa did get some time, and Rukhi is ones of my faves, but they still were really sidelined. I liked Sujatha, she’s such an uptight idiot, and her scene towards the end where she says she was aware that Miyao’s plan was doomed but still played along for Lingji made me kinda emotional. Rukhshana is the cutest and the greatest — I really liked her personality, how she can be extremely shy but then also completely goof around when she actually trust the people around her. And that moment at the end where she just say to her superiors to fuck off was glorious and one of my favorite scenes. Her relationship with Sujatha and Andry is adorable too. Andry himself was also... not present at all, but I really love the small glimpses of him we have seen, he’s pretty cool. I like how he sincerely seems to care a lot about his teammates despite his aloof character (him protecting Rukhi when their superiors try to hit her at the end was sweet.)
Still, Suparṇa wasn’t sidelined as much as Yeladot Shavit and Cairo Squad, though. I mean, I do like those girls — I adore Gannet because she’s cute as hell, Noor seems cool and Mariana intrigue me, but I can’t actually say much about them. Leah, Fatma and Stephania were also mostly comic relief except for one or two scenes towards the end. So I really hope Phase 2 will remedy to this, ‘cause I want more of these six, definitely!
I’m not sure I have a lot of thoughts about the adults characters quite yet — GERMAN TAKANO cracked me up, but she’s just as great as her Higurashi counterpart for now, and I always trust Ryukishi to write good Terrible Women. Especially Terrible Mothers, which is one of my personal weaknesses. Though I guess it’s not actually been confirmed she’s Miyao’s mom? It’s heavily implied, but we all know Ryukishi love to troll his audience so I wouldn’t put it past him that it is in fact just a red herring, but well, we’ll see I guess.
Toujirou is obviously a bastard, but he’s an interesting one, and I have no fucking idea what is going on in his head. Like it’s interesting that on the one hand he seems to genuinely care about his son, but on the other hand he has no problem manipulating and screwing him over (and the implication of Miyao being maybe just a program is... ooof.) Okonogi was... a bit less worse than in the other WTCs, I guess? He obviously care about the kids in his own way, and him defending them at the end was nice... but I still can’t really feel anything but contempt towards him. He’s still a pretty bad instructor, and like I say, I’m really not a big fan of the way he treats Chloe at all, even if it’s meant to be “comical.”
The Three Kings mostly made me laugh to be honest, and they’re more plot devices than actual characters for now so I really don’t care about them (a part of me even wonder if they “exist” at all, because, you know, meta stuff). I absolutely LOVED Jestress on the other hand! I have no idea what’s the deal with her, whether she’s Lambda or whatever, but she’s really intriguing and her design is top notch and I want more of her. Seshat was so fucking cool and I don’t have much thoughts about her yet other than I wanna marry her.
And that’s pretty much it!
I’m not really good at predictions or at throwing theories around (sorry, Ryukishi), so I’m not sure what to expect for the rest of the story. I guess my only thoughts are that the moles are probably Gunhild and/or Chloe, but then they seem like obvious candidates, so I don’t know. I kinda suspect Valentina too, because, er, I do not trust her at all and she just have that traitor vibe.
I really hope too that we’ll have time loops here again instead of a linear story because... well... I don’t wanna these kids to die okay... I also know that Ryukishi said Ciconia is only going to have four parts, and that’d make sense given how long Phase 1 was... but a part of me still kinda hope we’ll have a bit more... I guess it’s just that only four phases seems really little compared to the density of the story, and I’m really hoping he’ll have the time to develop well all of his narrative points and characters...
In any case, I think my thoughts on Ciconia for now pretty much get down to: it’s interesting and it has the potential to be a really great story, even if it’s far from being flawless and that I’m still very wary about how Ryukishi is going to handle some elements in the future.
But I’d definitely recommand it to people who love 07th Expansion stuff and sci-fi stories, and am very much looking forward to Phase 2!

TIME TO GO FERAL
Anyway I’m writing up what Pokemon teams the twewy characters would have with detailed explanations so buckle up this is gonna take a while. I’m only doing Neku and his partners for now but I might do more later!
Neku:
- Ninetales: This is mainly based on that Prog Fox thing (I think that’s what it’s called. Idk what it is but I keep seeing it lol) but I also thought it’d be fitting to give Neku a fire type since the starting pin is pyrokinesis. Ninetales also has some ghostly and psychic themes going on and since Neku is both a ghost and has psychic powers I figured that make sense.
- Crobat: Not only does Crobat have an Edgy design that Neku definitely would like, it also has some thematically fitting elements. Crobat can only evolve due to having maximum friendship, kind of like how Neku only could truly grow after letting people in.
- Linoone: Neku’s main goal was to blend in with the crowd and not be noticed, and Linoone is a pretty average Pokemon being the Hoenn equivalent of Rattata. It also is lightning fast and in some of Neku’s Cutscene Powers he is shown to be quite a quick lad.
- Lucario: I’d say reading people’s aura’s is very similar to reading people’s minds. Lucario is usually depicted as a “lone wolf who eventually realize friends are important” type of character in the anime so it worked a little too well.
- Smeargle: According to the Deep Lore Neku has a ton of imagination so I think he’d be great friends with an artist Pokemon! It’d also fit since he’s so into graffiti.
- Oricorio: Since Neku loves music so much, I’d figure he’d get along great with a dancer Pokemon. He’s always bopping to his own music when he has the chance to, so why not have a dance buddy! Also, given the versatile nature of this Pokemon, it makes sense that a boy who can use a variety of pins in the game would have a Pokemon that uses a variety of different types.
Shiki:
- Banette: It’s only fitting for someone who likes sewing to have a doll Pokemon. Banette also deals with a lot of spite so I think it’d vibe with Shiki while she was dealing with her jealousy. They could both heal together!
- Espurr: Not only is it adorable, it also has psychic powers and does its own thing, kind of like Mr. Mew! It’s also a pretty nervous Pokemon and though Shiki puts on a tough face, she gets flustered and startled easily. They both keep a lot to themselves as well. Though I guess Shiki doesn’t have to deal with immense psychic power coming out of her ears.
- Mimikyu: Do. Do I even have to explain this one. Both Mimikyu and Shiki struggled to be comfortable with themselves. But after realizing that they’re both valid and important in their own ways, they realize they’re more than who they think is better than them. Also I think Shiki would like making costumes for Mimikyu.
- Cinccino: Cinccino cares immensely about its appearance, which Shiki would definitely appreciate! Of course someone who ordered a man take his pants off so she could fix a button would love a Pokemon that puts just as much care in keeping things neat and fashionable. Also it’s adorable.
- Furfrou: Shiki would definitely love styling this dog’s hair. Furfrou is a pretty docile Pokemon, so maybe it'd be a good balance to Shiki’s fiery personality. I think she’d also like to relax with it after a long day at school.
- Silvalley: Silvalley takes it’s mask off once it reaches maximum friendship, much like Shiki was able to realize that her friends would still like her once they knew her true appearance. They also both get stronger after accepting what they are!
Joshua:
- Bastiodon: Joshua definitely has a lot of walls up. Since Bastiodon is pretty much a walking wall, I think he’d definitely like one! I think he’d also enjoy riding it around and teasing people lets be real.
- Rotom: Joshua drops a bunch of objects, many of them electrical appliances. Imagine if Rotom possessed them and helped out! Both of them also are pretty mischievous and tend to be tricksters. They also both seem to be perpetually smiling, except when things are dire. Also Rotom Dex seems to find men attractive at times just saying
- Necrozma: Specifically the fully charged Light form (I can’t remember what it’s called.) I mainly chose this one because it resembles the final boss after Joshua fuses with it, and also they’re both pretty much gods of their respective worlds. Joshua would probably only use this one when he absolutely has to, like when the Taboo noise were causing him and Neku trouble.
- Persian: Mr. Hanekoma probably gave Joshua a Meowth when they first met and eventually he evolved it into Persian! They both tend to act pretty aloof and probably have expensive tastes. Joshua doesn’t use it in battle very often since he doesn’t want it to get hurt.
- Zoroak: Let’s be real, Joshua lies a lot. Since Zoroak is a master of illusions, Joshua would probably find it useful. Joshua hid his true appearance for the entire game, and would never share his true motives, ever. Zoroak mainly uses its illusions to hide its shelter, much like Joshua would rather jump into a garbage dump than be real with people.
- Arcanine: Joshua would need to have at least one parallel with his proxy, wouldn’t he? Arcanine is entered in the Pokedex as the “legendary Pokemon” despite not actually being a legendary Pokemon, and I thought this would be a fun nod to the fact that Joshua is a lot more than he initially appears to be.
Beat:
- Primeape: Beat is pretty hot-headed and unpredictable, so I think it’d get along with Beat perfectly. They’re both pretty reckless in battle, but can dish out a ton of damage because of this.
- Gyrados: People tend to underestimate Beat due to his intelligence. He can be slow to understand jokes and big words sometimes, but that does not hold him back at all. Beat will use whatever tools he has to succeed. The noise form he gave Rhyme even helped him in the fight against Konishi! After being underestimated, nobody ever expected him to pack quite as much of a punch, much like nobody in 1998 thought Magikarp would involve into this fearsome beast.
- Quilava: Quilava was the closest Pokemon I could find compared to noise Rhyme’s design, but also its fire powers would fit his fiery personality! It also can learn Flame Wheel, and I think Beat would find that to be absolutely amazing.
- Exploud: Exploud is a very loud Pokemon, and Beat tends to be quite loud most of the time. They both have a lot of energy and keep people on their toes.
- Salamence: Salamence is known to be a very fearsome Pokemon (especially in competitive Pokemon lol) and soars through the sky at incredible speed! Salamence always believed in its dream of flying, while Beat could never find something to dream about. He probably finds this mighty dragon to be very inspiring.
- Lycanroc (daylight form): Beat believes in working together and is generally just a ray of sunshine, so of course he’d like a Pokemon that’s associated with the sun! They both have distinct senses of right and wrong, and Beat would find it’s appearance to be awesome.

Dimension Wave Chapter 23 — Frontliners
“… there sure are a lot of casualties.”
That was my first impression once I returned to the First. I’m not sure if the devs specifically made a post-Dimension Wave Lurolona, but all the buildings in here were damaged or in ruins. The town was completely unrecognizable. It’s a little weird thinking two weeks ago, Lurolona was my base of operations but now, it’s like this. Surprisingly, the people going in and out of town were very lively. Well, Dimension Wave was a pretty huge event. I guess in terms of regular MMO’s, it’d be like a major patch or something. People are probably excited about what’s to come.
“Why is it so cold here though?”
Perhaps because the first city is close to the sea or maybe because it’s the spawn point, but Lurolona is usually pretty warm. It felt like an Indian summer lulling me to sleep. But now, after Dimension Wave happened, it’s rather chilly. Now that I think about it, it’s neat how there are temperatures in games. It’s almost as if I’m in a parallel world or something. Now then, let’s go talk to some people and start gathering intel. First, I should talk to my sisters. Then maybe I’ll call Alto. He probably has lots of information from all his connections. As soon as I figured out my plan, I felt something strange about the air around me.
“… is it snowing?”
It was. Many people around me noticed it too and felt just as weirded out as I did. Snow isn’t anything special in a game, but this reeked of a cataclysm. It’s almost as if this were the beginning of Ragnarök.
“… thanks again, Shouko.”
I open my inventory and select the Powder Snow Haori. It wasn’t that cold at sea, so I didn’t need the coat, but I’ll definitely need it, now that it’s snowing. Just like how I worn it last time, the haori surely doesn’t match my Western-style clothes but at least it’s very warm.
I reached the square where I said I’d meet up with my sisters. I had a feeling that they chose here on purpose. Tough-looking warriors in full suits of armor and high-leveled mages with robes and towering staves were hanging around the square. They’re obviously frontliners. It was odd thinking how Shouko was with them just a week ago.
“Now, where are those two…”
I walk around the square in search of my sisters. Compared to our party members who are in regular clothes, these people were absolutely menacing with their swords and armor. But now that I think about it, that’s par for the course in MMORPG’s.
“Big brooo!”
Tsugumi called out from behind. Both of my sisters are using their natural voices in game, so I was able to pick them out instantly. … it’s a little unsettling to hear their real voices in another universe though.
“Hey, Tsumu—”
Before I could finish greeting her, she ran and dove at me—in armor, not to mention. It wasn’t a full set of heavy armor, but it sure wasn’t light either… medium armor, perhaps? In any case, she was a massive projectile that was flying my way.
“Whoa!”
I was afraid I wasn’t able to, but I caught her. Then, I swung her around three times as if we were in some sort of anime. She was lighter than I thought though.
“Hehe!”
Her flapping animal ears showed just how excited she was to see me again. I wanted to pat her on the head, but Tsumugi is taller than I am. Maybe it’s a little weird to pat someone taller than small little me. Gah! How lame!
“Hmm?” “What’s wrong?” “Mm… nothing. I’m glad you’re okay, big bro.” “I’m glad to see you safe as well… you seem really high-level though.”
Her armor was black with red accents. It looked like a long armored skirt, both cool and cute. Her weapon was tucked away, but I’m sure she’d look good with anything in her hand. I’m sure people must have lots to say about a regular citizen me with little sister who’s a knight. But hey, we have different objectives, so different equipment is totally normal.
“Ahaha, I just turned level 26!” “… 26?”
I didn’t mean to question her out loud. Sheryl is level 21 right now. Since Shouko and Yamikage took Naval Combat, Sheryl had gained quite a few levels too. It’s just a little odd that they only have a 5-level gap between her and Tsugumi, even accounting for how Tsugumi said it gets grindy after level 20.
“Something wrong?” “N-No, it’s nothing.”
I brushed it off, but what’s up with that? Like with any MMO’s, grinding must be tough. It’s quick to level in the beginning, but players probably need a lot of exp to level up later.
“You must be the brat’s older brother.”
A party of four drew near as I snapped back to my senses. A Human male spoke to me. Whaddya mean “the brat”? She has a name, y’know? Well, Tsugumi is a bit of a brat, but still. The man has brown hair with white streaks and a set of white armor—exactly what you might imagine a hero to dress like in an RPG. He’s probably the party leader. Behind him are a Human female in a robe with a two-handed staff in her hands; a young Jewel male with a magical tome; and a young Elven male clad in light armor. No Spirit? What a shame.
“Yeah, I’m Tsugumi’s older brother. My name is Kizuna.” “I’ve heard of ya. Tsumugi and her older sister turned you into their younger sister, right?” “… more or less. Well, I’m not exactly complaining either.” “Good to meet ya, Kizuna. I’m Rosette, but everyone calls me Roz.”
Roz extended his hand. No reason to refuse his handshake.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re a frontliner, right, Roz?” “Yeah, I guess. It’s all thanks to Tsugumi and Rei.”
I’m not sure who Rei was, but probably one of the three behind him. For some reason, my first impression of Roz was that he’s like the protagonist to a dating sim. Three guys and two girls—about average for RPG’s. It looks like the one with the big staff is Rei who wields light magic; the one with the tome uses four different elements of magic; and the one in light armor wields a bow. Roz is their tank then? Party leader matches his looks too. Oh, and I was correct in my assumptions. I can just tell. Well, it’s definitely good team comp for an MMORPG, so it’s easy to guess.
“So, how far are you guys with investigating the Dimension Wave?” “I heard that there’s a new location popped up between the First and the Second.” “… a special event map, eh?”
I wonder what’s there. Probably a fight though, I’m guessing. It’d be fitting if a boss monster came crawling out of that fissure in the sky.
“We’re guessing something’s gonna happen in three days.” “In three days, you say?”
—three days later would mark one month since we’ve spawned in this game. Yeah, that would make a lot of sense. It’s reasonable that the first big event would come after one month. Of course, we can’t be 100% sure, so we should investigate into this some more. But we’ll say it’s in three days for now. That means we’re assuming that there’s gonna be a raid three days later. … the first thing I can do to help is tell them about gutting weapons. If I let everybody know now, they’ll probably have time to prepare before the boss fight. I’ve earned a lot from keeping this secret already and these guys have been taking care of Tsumugi as well, so maybe I—
“Wouldya look at that? Sir Hero’s hanging out with a Spirit.”
As soon as I was about to tell them my secret, someone calls out to Roz from behind. It’s a good-looking guy with blond hair. Well, nobody’s really ever ugly in a game.
“… it’s you guys, huh?”
Roz seemed to be a pretty cool guy but now he’s got a frown on his face. Well, judging by how they spoke to him, he probably doesn’t want to get involved with those guys either. Behind the blondie was three other people, all dressed similarly to Roz. Probably around the same level and frontliners too, if I had to guess.
“Spirits may be a weaker race, but that’s nothing you should be saying to people in their faces.”
Roz snapped back at him. Was he defending me? I mean, I literally just met the guy and he’s standing up for me. What a good dude.
“They completely useless if they so much get sneezed on, am I right?”
The four of them were laughing among themselves. … oh, let me have at him, won’t you? These guys look like a bunch of thugs you’d see in a manga or something. I didn’t know people like them really existed. Why did a bunch of normies like them join this game anyway? That’s what’s odd to me.
“Did you forget how much she helped with unlocking the second city?!” “Spirits are supposed to have lots of HP!” “And without her, we would’ve lost.”
Roz and the blondie argued with each other. Frontliners sure are dramatic. Well, this much is expected in an MMO. High-leveled players just love to argue about experience, items, mobs, and the like. I’ve had my fair share of this before. Hmm? I turned around to see Tsugumi tugging at my sleeve.
“They’re people we usually compete with to farm monsters, since our parties are pretty similar.” “I see.”
Their party consists of a tank, a mage, another mage, and an archer too. A typical, effective team. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them hunting at the same area.
“What are they arguing about anyway?” “So, in the raid to unlock the second city, a Spirit really helped us out. We would’ve all been wiped out if not for that Spirit.” “Well, he’s not wrong in that Spirits do have lots of HP.”
To be precise, it’s Energy and not HP. But their conversation sounds kinda familiar.
“Speaking of which, what happened to her? I haven’t seen her around lately.” “Yeah. I haven’t seen her since about a week… a bit more than a week ago. Maybe she left the party.” “Huh, is that right?”
A bit more than a week ago? That’s right when I stopped fishing.
… wait, they’re talking about Shouko.
If I remember correctly, Shouko mentioned she there unlocking the second city. There’s a possibility that it’s someone else, but everything seems to line up perfectly. Shouko described them as a bunch of bastards before too. It seemed like her enemies weren’t just the monsters. Her equipment is all set up for avoiding getting hit. If she can’t block, then she’d dodge. That makes sense… since she needs her HP for her party.
“Well, Sir Hero, don’t get sucked in by a Spirit, hey?” “You can mind your own business.” “Smell ya later, then. I’ve got better things to do anyway.”
The blondie walked back where they came from. He was pretty pumped up for someone who has “better things to do anyway”. Oh, whatever. Right, I gotta tell them something.
“Thanks, you guys, for helping me find my good friend.”
I meant to shout louder, but they didn’t seem to have heard me. What do they call that? Selective hearing?
“Sorry about that. I apologize if I’ve ruined the mood for you guys.” “Well, that’s only normal in online games. Don’t worry about it.” “Thank you.” “It’s true that Spirits are kinda weak too.”
Other races are better suited to combat. You’d have to really know how to use Spirits to use them effectively.
“I don’t agree though.” “Is that right? It means a lot coming from a frontliner like you.” “They mentioned it too, but we would’ve lost the raid to unlock the second city if it weren’t for Spirits. You guys may be weak against mooks, but definitely the opposite against bosses.” “I see.”
Now that I think about it, Yamikage’s Drain did 3,000 per hit against that Lizardman Dark Knight. She did quite a bit of work there. No other race could’ve done that within two weeks of playing this game, right? And with our HP—or Energy—we don’t die very easily. Well, I know first-hand just how hard it was to get three weeks’ worth of Energy. Regular mobs aren’t all that bad though… and Shouko seems to like the experience gain at sea too. Whatever. I’ve got better things to do too.
“More important is Dimension Wave.” “Yeah. What are ya gonna do, Kizuna?” “I’ve seen Tsugumi already, so I guess I’ll check in with my older sister and other friends.”
I can’t forget that Shouko and them sent me on a scouting mission either. Alto can’t be far off from here either. We’ll learn a lot from Alto, I’m sure. If there’s gonna be a big raid in three days, then I probably should get new equipment too. We’ve got mountains of mats from the monsters at sea. I promised I’d give Romina dibs on special gutted items too, so I should head her way. Three days doesn’t seem like a lot of time to me now. I should be quick and careful with things.
“Then, I’mma go look into this some more, Roz. I’ll leave Tsu—I’ll leave my sister to ya.” “Bro-bro! I can take care of myself!” “You sure about that?” “What do you mean?!” “Hahaha. Tsugumi’s the strongest of us. She takes care of us more than the other way around.”
… that’s a prodigy gamer for you. I headed off on my own as I reflected back on how I treated my sister like she was some sort of dead weight.

21 Question Tag Game
Ah! Love these! Thank you, @alinakerrin! Sorry it took a while to get to!
1. Height:
Somewhere between 5′6 and 5′8. Kinda average? I haven’t measured myself in a while but I grew like... two inches over the past four months. And I’m pretty sure I’m still growing. Very late growth spurt. Oof.
2. Favorite Band:
No favourites, but I really like Les Friction! Epic music is my jam. (Literally.) Of Monsters And Men is also amazing, Starset is awesome, and I really like WILD for happier music! (My music genre favourites are crazily varied.)
3. Favorite Song Lyric:
Tough choice! Out of thin air I choose this from WILD’s Here We Go:
What does it take
To make our dreams collide?
The smallest change
Can make you feel alive
4. Following:
I’m still brand new so I can guarantee this number is going to skyrocket, but for now: 72
5. Writing Motto:
Do I have one? Not really. I guess I've seen this one around and I really like it: “You can’t edit a blank page.” Helps a lot with remembering that what I write isn’t final, and that I can mess up all I want as long as I get words down!
6. (Some) Favorite TV Shows:
I haven’t watching TV in foreverrrrr. I’m still a child at heart though so... Steven Universe is pretty neat and Avatar: The Last Airbender is probably still my all time favourite cartoon. I also am obsessed with watching nature documentaries!
7. Favorite Song (without words):
I listen to a lot of music without words! Maybe... nope, you know what. I’m just gonna. Say it.
Pretty much any of How To Train Your Dragon’s soundtrack, but especially Test Drive. Am I a Night Fury nerd? Yes. Yes I am.
8. Favorite Song:
Oohhhhhh noooo pleaaseeee don’t make me choose. Nnngh.
Okay, fine. More so because of all the nostalgic, wonderful feels I get from his songs, Owl City’s To The Sky. It was like... the very first song I listened to on my own. (I didn’t get a music player of any sort until really late in my childhood.)
9. Languages I’m Fluent In:
English and French! (Acadian French though. I can still understand Parisian and Québécois French, there’s just different slang and the accents are completely different.) I’m learning ASL at the moment, but I’m definitely not fluent, yet.
10. Languages I can Count to 10 In:
English and French. I used to be able to do it in Russian, German, and ASL, but I’ve forgotten now. ^^’
11. Top 5 Mythical Creatures (in no particular order):
Dragons (sorry, I’m a dragon nerd)
Sirens (huh. I wonder. why.)
Quilin
Salamander (The mythical version!)
Kelpies
12. Favorite Food:
I really like carbonara. Especially when I make the pasta myself. Also, bacon-wrapped scallops? Mmmm.
13. Favorite (Musical) Character:
Uh. I’ve barely watched any musicals. So... Elphaba from Wicked? I am very uneducated when it comes to musicals.
14. Favorite (TV) Character:
Can I say Bismuth here? Is that allowed? As a science nerd, bismuth is my favourite element. Also her character is just... love. I love her.
15. Favorite (Book) Character:
Ahhh! Too many! No!
16. Favorite (Original Work) OC:
Ooh dang. Picking favourites. Why.
Okay so. You guys don’t know who this is. But. They pop up in the first book’s epilogue, and play a major part in book two. All we know of them is that they go by the name The Dragon, and they’re an infamous pirate captain.
17. Favorite Genre
Honestly I can like any genre as long as it’s written well. I tend to really enjoy fantasy, though!
18. Favorite Fanfiction AUs
Your classic modern day AU. I also like super spy AUs and, you guessed it, pirate AUs.
Did you know that OSS originally started off an a pirate AU using some fan characters of mine?
19. Favorite Fanfiction (Authored by Someone Else):
I don’t read fanfiction! I’d love to start, but I just... never did! Any suggestions from the audience?
20. Favorite Original Story Idea (Authored by Me):
I’m only writing one WIP right now. ^^
21. Favorite Book:
Magyk by Angie Sage <-- Okay I know this is from @alinakerrin‘s answers but I too adore this book. Also, another amazing series from my childhood: The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell
I really didn’t do the best with this but! I dunno, personal tag games are confusing for me.
I tag @imaghostwriter, if you so feel up to doing it! My apologies if you’ve already been tagged for this!

Dominaria - Green
Looks like elves are coming back.
Good ol’ Magic elfball. Something needs to go toe-to-toe with the Gobs.
My Top 3 picks:
Multani - Commander (I know, not included in this post, but a reviews coming soon) that just keeps kicking, with relevant Reach and Trample
Song of Freyalise - Ramp. Ramp. Win
Verdant Force - A Reprint of an EDH fave
Adventurous Impulse
Grade: D
Home: Any green deck
Range: Very Wide
Draw is always nice, but these “check the top X cards” are usually less impactful in EDH. In a format where you can Diabolic Tutor on turn 1 (much less any other tutor), this feels less useful.
Ancient Animus
Grade: C+
Home: MonoGreen
Range: Narrow
Needs an interesting requirement, and feels like Pounce for legends. Fight at instant speed is pretty decent, but if you’re outside of mono green, there’s better removal
Abhor Armament
Grade: F
Home: Counters deck?
Range: Average
Most monogreen decks aren’t in desperate need of combat tricks granting reach, and the counter is only nominally useful.
Baloth Gorger
Grade: F
Home: Ramp, Fatties
Range: Narrow
Vanilla creatures are lame. For about the same cost, Kavu Primarch gives you more options. Bottom line, there’s better kicker creatures, better 4 drops, and better fatties.
Broken Bond
Sorry Chandra, looks like your girlfriend left.
Grade: D+
Home: Any green deck, Ramp
Range: Narrow
Another cousin of Naturalize, trading Instant speed for Ramp. Nice that it doesn’t care what type of land, so it meshes well with cards like Kodama’s Reach that put lands into your hand.
Corrosive Ooze
Wait a minute, that’s not a Magic card!
Grade: D
Home: Anti Equipment, Anti Voltron
Range: Very Narrow
A bear that destroys the equipment of creatures it blocks or is blocked by. Not particularly powerful, but I was able to make a Hearthstone joke, so I like it.
Also, destroying the Equipment at the end of combat won’t save you from being completely killed by a Trampling Voltron commander, so it’s meh.
Elfhame Druid
Grade: C
Home: Kicker, Elf Tribal, Any Green deck
Range: Wide
Kicker has a lot of use in EDH, and having GG available makes many of them more attractive. The worst case of being a mana dork for 2 isn’t that bad especially in a tribal deck.
Fungal Plots
Grade: C
Home: Saproling Tribal, sac deck
Range: Narrow
I compare it to Night Soil, one of my Fave EDH cards. Unlike Soil, it costs more, it only goes after your ‘yard, only exiles one creature, but offers some utility to saprolings, like much needed draw.
Solid option to have in Saproling deck to give you more Sap sac options.
Gaea’s Blessing
Grade: D+, Reprint
Home: Recycling Decks, weak GY Hate, Anti-Mill
Range: Narrow
Weak GY hate is ok, self replacement is nice, and milling protection is nice. Sorc speed always stinks, but this in a weird niche card.
Gaea’s Protector
Grade: F
Home: N/A
Range: N/A
Effect not interesting or powerful enough for EDH. Especially at 4 mana.
Gift of Growth
Grade: D
Home: Combat Trix, Ramp
Range: Very Narrow
An odd spell. Green doesn’t get a lot of this untapping stuff as much as White. It can untap to make a blocker, or give quasi-vigilance to an attacker. Buffing, with multiple strength levels, is interesting.
It’s expensive, but neat.
Grow from the Ashes
Grade: C
Home: Ramp Deck, Multicolor deck
Range: Wide
Explosive Vegetation with Kicker options.
There’s plenty of ramp in the CMC 2-4 that’s pretty solid, and I think kicker gives it some consideration, especially in ramping early and late. Solid card.
EDIT: (thanks @starkmaximum) I should also mention the benefit of the lands coming in untapped. Sure they’re basic, but fixing RIGHT THEN AND THERE is great.
Kamahl’s Druidic Vow
Grade: B-
Home: Ramp, MonoGreen, Big Mana Combo
Range: Average
If you got mana and a legendary (annoying hoops to jump through), you got toys.
I can’t wait to go infinite, play my whole deck, and Elixir of Immortality everything back. Boom, Board full of legends and lands. Gonna be great in the Captain Sisay deck (if you can buy her for 30!).
Remember that Genesis Wave is kinda a strictly better version than this (sure it costs G more, but doesn’t need a Legendary and hits any permanent), so get this as a budget option, not a power options.
Krosan Druid
Grade: D
Home: LG Deck
Range: Narrow
Most LG, especially one shot lifegain, isn’t useful in EDH. Incremental or repeatable lifegain is usually the name of the game.
While 8 mana to kick a 2/3 and gain 10 life is fair, it’s just okay. At that point I’d rather play Archangel’s Light or Congregate-look alikes.
Llanowar Elves
Grade: Reprint
Home: Every elf and green deck in existence
Range: Very Wide
The source of strength for many an elf deck, I’m mostly interesting in the sweet new art, plus awesome FNM cards.
Llanowar Envoy
Grade: C-
Home: Multicolor Infinite mana combo
Range: Very Narrow
Straight up Mana Filter when you go Green infinite mana, as well as mana fixing in multicolored decks.
Body’s decent enough but nothing to write home about
Llanowar Scout
Grade: D
Home: Ramp, Elf Tribal
Range: Average
Compare with Budoka Gardener and Sakura-Tribe Scout for similar effects, with Budoka as the most powerful. Solid ramp option, and a good reason to keep a handful of lands.
Mammoth Spider
Grade: F
Home: N/A
Range: N/A
Decent limited fodder, trash for EDH.
The Mending of Dominaria
Grade: C
Home: Land Sac deck
Range: Narrow
Plays well with Titania, Gitrog, most land heavy commanders. You can even Zuran Orb your board if you time it right, and get a ton of life.
Nature’s Spiral
Grade: D-, Reprint
Home: Any Green Deck
Range: Very Wide
Not really the best EDH card. It ends up in the first draft in a lot of my decks, but usually gets cut. Mostly because Reclaim exists.
Pierce the Sky
Grade: F
Home: N/A
Range: N/A
Bog standard anti flying. Sure, you’ll get to use it, but bring something better, like Beast Within.
Primordial Wurm
Grade: F

Solid Servo Exhibition, in green with upside. Kicker gives it some nice utility. Me gusta.
Song of Freyalise

Ramp. Ramp. Smash.
An ult that lets you smash with no consequences is amazing. Mana fixing early game is great
Spore Swarm
Grade: C-
Home: Token Decks, Saproling Tribal
Range: Average
Useful for token decks. Captain’s Call for Saprolings. Slightly nicer while it’s at Instant speed.
Sporecrown Thallid
Grade: B+
Home: Fungus/Saproling Tribal
Range: Very Narrow
A lord at 2 CMC? Wow!
In the Fungus/Saproling deck, it’s amazing. Elsewhere, it’s usually a strictly better bear, so it’s bog awful there.
Steel Leaf Champion
Grade: C+
Home: Mono Green decks, Elf tribal
Range: Narrow
The last of the CCC cycle, a beefy elf with the Daunt power.
It’s a great reward for playing the color, much like a better Woolly Thoctar.
Sylvan Awakening
Grade: C+
Home: Lands, Untap deck
Range: Average
Any deck with enough lands can run this well. Get an army of 8-12 lands, attack without worrying.
Untappers like Awakening give you an army of Reach Indestructible creatures on the defense. Combos well with Armageddon, if you’re the mood for destruction.
Territorial Allosaurus
Grade: C
Home: Dino Tribal
Range: Very Narrow
Only dino tribal actually wants this, and barely at that. It’s costed aggressively, and kicker is a nice option, so it’s nice removal for 7. It can usually trade without dying, but there’ll be some times when the kicker won’t help, so play after combat I guess.
Thorn Elemental
Grade: D-, Reprint
Home: Fatty Deck, Any Green Deck
Range: Very Wide
Power creep hit this elemental hard.
Bog standard hitter fatty. Does decent work as a super trampler, but there’s better options at this CMC.
Untamed Kavu
Grade: C-
Home: Any Green Deck, Ramp, Counters
Range: Very Wide
Unlike many common and uncommon Kicker cards, this one is good with and without kicker.
A french vanilla bear is nice, and makes a good early game card, and the 5 drop with 5/5 and the same abilities is pretty solid. Plus some deck likes counters, so that’s good.
Never your first choice for any deck, but decent to fill out a curve, and good for the first or second draft of a deck. I’ll bet it’ll be in a Commander pre-con.
Verdant Force
Grade: B, Reprint
Home: Any Green Deck, Go Wide Deck, Ramp deck
Range: Wide
The original solid EDH card. This card came out over 20 years ago, and it’s still racking up kills in EDH.
One of the best scaling Fatties that can sorta take over a game (but not really in EDH, cuz no player should be over run by Saprolings)
And side note, hey it’s the first new art!
Wild Onslaught
Grade: D?

Not sure where I can really use this. Most counters are, in my opinion, are better suited to being put on one creature.

3 mana for 3/3 of stats is not interesting, even for Sap/Fungus decks. Leave it in the box.

aspects chart reading for @starflowersx
hello! welcome to your reading.
🦋 chart shape, dominants
your chart is a bucket shape, with the moon as the handle of the bucket. your moon is in the 8th house, hence matters regarding transformation, death and spirituality will be your priorities in this lifetime. you also have clear ideas about your future and who you want to be. even though you may have different passions and talents you’re capable of only sticking to one and mastering it, giving your all.
your dominant planets are mercury, pluto and jupiter. you are a very intelligent person, you're probably extremely open-minded and you have a philosophical mind. you could have a knack for writing, and you may be particularly good at it. you're also interested in foreign cultures, you may be able to speak more than one language and you could interact with people from all over the world throughout your life. you're also very intuitive, even though you could be a bit moody sometimes.
your dominant sign is scorpio. you may have trust issues and be quite of a loner, yet once you commit to someone, you'll be in for a long ride. you are very deep, both mentally and emotionally. you may struggle with power control, as you may have the perception that people are trying to take advantage of you due to your insecurities. because of that, you may also get quite possessive and bossy.
your dominant element is water. you're very intuitive and empathetic, you care a lot about others, and you may seem like a healer to people you know. in fact, you always try to help them if you can, almost in a therapeutic way. you're also very spiritual, and you're attracted to anything related to discovering your higher self and soul purpose.
🌎 ascendant in virgo, 24° / 3rd decan ruled by mercury and venus
you have a practical approach to the world. you’re kind of logical, it’s hard for you to improvize. you always want to keep everything neat and organized, at least in your mind. you could have a natural coldness to your face. you may seem a bit older than you are, or at least very mature and responsible, even though you may be more outgoing than you look due to your many gemini placements. with your attentive eyes, you pay attention to every single detail you see. you’re a perfectionist, and you always want and try to be at your best state. I would say you’re quite competitive when it comes to your goals, but you don’t really do it to be above others. you do it because your obsession for details kind of stresses you out. improving and proving yourself is a way to boost your self-esteem, you feel fulfilled when you can achieve your goals. you are extremely intelligent and logical, you’re always up for a deep talk or simply for an occasion to gain more knowledge. you like being smart, you always want to know about everything. even the latest, trendy meme counts for you. your nature is very cautious; you’re rarely impulsive, you always think deeply about your decisions, as you don’t want to commit any mistakes. because of that, you can be particularly picky. not only with material things such as movies, books, food etc. but even with people. it’s hard for you to open up to someone you don’t know at all. you take things slow, both in friendships and in relationships, just to preserve yourself. you may come off as kind of snobby, but you’re just misunderstood. you don’t like flaky bonds, you need security in your life. physically, as I’ve already mentioned before, you have this kind of strict look on your face. your eyes may be almond-shaped, and you could have a natural feline gaze. overall, you have something smaller about your features; you could have thin lips, a small nose, small eyes… you could have a smaller frame with thin bones. you may be of average height, and I’ve noticed that most virgos tend to have pretty long legs? no matter if they’re tall or not, their legs will still be longer than their bust. you may also have very dark hair and / or eyes, as well as a defined facial structure with high cheekbones.
virgo ascendant trine taurus moon: you appear way more sweet and approachable than your scorpio sun, virgo rising, which is obviously very beneficial for you. you can read people's mood very well, it's easy for you to understand whether someone is sad, angry, happy... because of that, you always try to make people feel at ease, you're always kind with people, and that makes you extremely likeable. also, since the moon makes a pleasant aspect to the ascendant, you're probably a very genuine person. it's hard for you to hide your real emotions, and even if you wanted to hide them you wouldn't be capable. you could also have frequent mood swings. you have a strong sense of family and comfort to you, and hence it's extremely essential for you feel at ease to truly be yourself. let's suppose you're with a group of friends, and they suddenly bring someone with them that isn't very nice; you would probably get very stiff, and your mood would immediately go down. you also tend to be like a mother / sister to others, you hardly ever have superficial bonds.
virgo ascendant square sagittarius jupiter: you probably learn a lot from people around you. you're most likely surrounded by wise, spiritual and possibly foreign individuals in your life. they help you to grow up, both spiritually and mentally. this placement also softens your rough scorpio image, making you look more outgoing and approachable. you're also very open-minded, and you rarely have prejudices. the downside to this placement is that you may be depend too much from your friends or lovers, especially when it comes to your beliefs. you're easy to influence, and you may change your mind often if others disagree with you. you could possibly have high expectations from others, creating a false idea of those who surround you. at least, you're aware of your abilities and you have the potential to make the most out of them, but you're modest about it. you don't come off as bossy, as other jupiter - asc aspects would.
virgo ascendant square pisces saturn: you may be shy and have self-esteem issues, especially during your early years. because of that, you may often appear as insecure to others, or even unreliable. you have a strong desire to be with someone and commit to them, you despise supertificial bonds, but at the same time you may find yourself being too shy to approach others, especially during your early years. you don't feel much comfortable around other people, and others can sense that; your insecurity is exposed to the world, and some may take advantage of that to hurt your feelings. you're afraid of being judged, whether it's for your appearance, or maybe because of your ideals or interests. hence, you end up becoming reserved. this is something that will be solved through growth and time; the older you get, the easier you'll be on yourself. also, thanks to this aspect, you're a responsible person with defined values. to cope with this placement, I'd suggest you to do what makes you feel the best. there are different ways to boost your self-esteem, so maybe you can work on that and then start expressing yourself freely; if you do it without the fear of being judged, you will shine even more.
virgo ascendant trine capricorn neptune: you appear as a very genuine and honest person. you have a reassuring aura about you, which could attract people to you. in fact, you seem and sound like a healer, hence broken people may find comfort in you. you’re an hopeless romantic, and this may make you look sort of naive, almost childlike. you feel the need to revolution the world, there’s an hidden rebel in you that needs change and justice. yet, you struggle to take action. it’s like your assertiveness is stuck deep inside of you, and you can’t take it out. hence, you cope with this through escapism; you may oversleep, overwork, drink, daydream, do drugs… anything that allows your mind to travel away from your sense of justice. you always want to be seen likeable, hence you may act differently based on the situation you’re in. identity issues are also common when the ascendant aspects neptune, as you may feel the need to be part of a group, yet you can’t. you’re too complex to be part of only one category, you can’t classify yourself. in addition, you may often be, or at least look, sleepy, absent, as if you were from another world.
virgo ascendant trine capricorn uranus: you are very independent and open-minded, you hardly ever judge someone from its appearance, for example. you are fond of friendship, it's most likely more important than love for you, but at the same time you're more of a loner. you'd rather spend the day in watching your favourite show on the couch than going out and partying. your self-esteem most probably fluctuates a lot: some days you're very confident, especially in your skills / abilities, and maybe as well in your appearance. other days, though, you start feeling pretty insecure. you're very unpredictable, not only from this point of view, but in your life in general. you strive for freedom, you don't want to force others into thinking the same way as you do when it comes to shallow opinions. your life philosophy is most likely 'live and let live', everyone is free to do what they want for you. on the other hand, you're most likely an amazing friend, as you know what it means to support and help an individual or a group. you're an ideal leader, basically.
virgo ascendant sextile scorpio pluto: you see the world as a place full of dangers and malice, hence it’s hard for you to trust people. this may be translated through fear; you’re either scared of other people, and hence you look more vulnerable, or maybe you’re the one who prefers to look intimidating to avoid problems. you can sense others’ emotions very well, so they have no secrets for you. you can perceive any single emotion in people just by looking in their eyes. while this is good, as you understand who’s best for you and you’re aware of the dangers you may face, pluto in contact with the ascendant tends to make one take advantage of this and be a little manipulative. this awareness of the world makes you look mysterious and secretive, as if you always know something more than others (and you probably do). pluto is also the planet of transformation, and you might experience a lot of rebirths throughout your life, both physically and emotionally. you might lose/have lost a big amount of weight, for example, which makes you look like a different person. or maybe, you like dying your hair of a different colour, giving you a different vibe.
🌞 sun in scorpio, 14° / 2nd decan ruled by pluto and neptune
you're quite of a loner, you prefer spending time alone rather than with others. you're extremely intuitive, and you can read people like a book; they can't lie or keep secrets from you, you'll surely find out. you're pretty charismatic, and paired with your wise intellect it's hard not to agree with your ideas. you're basically a leader, a very demanding one. you have high standards regarding everything: clothes, food, goals, people... you're always striving for the best, you don't want to settle down. on the other hand, even though it may take you a while to find someone worth of your affection, once that someone shows up you'll stay with them forever. you're deeply loyal, and also caring in your own way. that's because you value feelings, you can easily smell when someone isn't trustworthy. you're probably very protective of your friends and loved ones in general, sometimes even too much. this could even escalate and become a more serious issue, as scorpio is also the planet of obsession, after all. it's common for you to feel your emotions x2, as they're too intense to handle. you know everything about others, but you don't show off and gossip about it. actually, you keep the info for yourself and use it when you need it.
scorpio sun opposite taurus moon: you're the type to start lots of projects, always feeling like you need to transform yourself or your routine. you're very self-aware of your identity, as you're constantly in contact with your feelings. you may even appear as too emotional, as the sun brings all your emotions out to see. this placement most likely makes it hard for you to make choices, you are very indecisive; on one side, your taurus moon wants comfort, you crave security, almost laziness. your scorpio sun, on the other hand, wants change, transformation, and hence you tend to struggle with balance. as a result, you may change your mind often, and people could possibly picture you as shallow or unpredictable. you're interested in knowing more about your roots, your childhood, and also about having a family in general. when you were young, you probably were even more energetic than now. you could be the type to look nostalgically at your old pictures, and you care about your mother a lot. you're also very interested in your own culture; you're not afraid to show the world your interests, reactions and opinions. the problem with this opposition is that the individual may become so self-sufficient at the point that doesn't let anyone interfer in their life. it's obviously a good thing to do when someone tries to hurt you, but there's the risk it may happen even with people that are trying to help you if not well-developed. last but not least, your parents' relationships might have had impact on your growth. maybe they're divorced, and one of them had to compensate for the missing parent; perhaps, one of them was highly influenced by the other.
scorpio sun conjunct scorpio mercury: you express your ego and identity through your words and ideas. you’re very opinionated and you protect strongly your beliefs. after all, you probably came up with your ideals after thinking deeply about them, you were too precise to be wrong. you’re also probably an avid reader, and you could do well in writing yourself, as you’re able to properly convey your ideals with your words. also, your heavy virgo dominance makes you naturally good at writing poetry, or even philosophical quotes. your mind is very active, and you feel comfortable letting all your thoughts out. it’s actually a way to relieve stress. you also have a wide vocabulary, and you’re capable of making a formal speech if you have to. you have a memorable way of speaking, as your words are very sharp. it’s hard for you to be ignored for your intellect.
scorpio sun trine pisces saturn: you're an extremely ambitious and hard-working person, you put a lot of seriousness in your goals. you aspire to be the best, not only for yourself, but also to be recognized. you don't do it to brag, though. you just want to feel fulfilled, being good at something boosts your self-esteem. in fact, you're quite insecure about yourself. you're a perfectionist, you always want to be at your best state, and that could pressure you. since you were a child, you always took care of your responsibilities, in fact you probably didn't find yourself at ease around your peers at school. you get along more with older people, or that are at least as mature as you, as you grew up sooner than other kids, with a strong sense of duty. you tend to be a bit too materialistic; for example, when thinking about a gift, you immediately think about something material that costs money, not something handmade, for example. money is very important for you, and you aspire to achieve a great status in life. you're also quite pessimistic, you never set your expectations too high, mostly out of fear. you're constantly afraid that things could turn out the way you don't want them to be, as you always want to have everything under control. because of that, you may even appear as bossy or snobby, as you may have the impulse to control people as well. you don't do it out of malice, though, it's something very subconscious that comes from fear. fear of not being able to achieve your goals and being criticized by others.
🌙 moon in taurus, 20° / 3rd decan ruled by venus and saturn
the moon is exalted in taurus, so it's definitely a good placement! you're very peaceful, you try to avoid conflicts when you can. taurus' most striking feature is that they crave stability, whether it's financial, in love etc. you must be very stubborn, as taurus is a fixed sign, this placement, paired with your hard-working scorpio and virgo energy, makes you settle on making your ideas concrete, and it's very beneficial. it makes you capable of achieving any goals in your life. you're also very artsy, and you may fancy particular art styles. you have a good eye for aesthetics, and you care a lot about the looks of your house, body, clothes etc. you have excellent concentration, and that is another thing that helps you achieve your goals and make your ideas concrete. last but not least, you're amazingly patient, and that makes you a great friend. probably, they vent a lot of their worries to you, as you're also a great listener.
taurus moon sextile pisces saturn: you’re very reliable and mature, almost serious. you always want to be seen as a point of reference, yet you tend to shy away from the spotlight. even though you may desire it, you feel too shy and pressured being in the centre of attention. you don’t like talking about your feelings; even if you do talk a lot, you prefer talking about news, hobbies etc. you don’t want to be the subject of the conversation. because of this, you tend to repress your emotions, as you don’t want to be seen as vulnerable. you’re a nice listener, your friends can rely on you when they need to vent without wanting an advice, as you’re probably not the best at finding a solution to their problems. you may find yourself wanting to follow a schedule, otherwise you feel as if you’re too relaxed and you’re not being productive. this is also a placement that can indicate coldness in your family environment / childhood. maybe your parents were quite strict, but overall it was nothing too serious that hurt you deeply. actually, you might have had a pleasant childhood, you have a nice memory of it.
taurus moon trine capricorn uranus: you’re the type to change your mind often, probably because you’re constantly coming up with new thoughts and theories since you’re so intellectually active. you seem emotionally cold, and you may actually be like that. in your case though, I see that with your heavy water energy, you feel so much all at once that at one point you need to detach from reality to calm down. even though you have troubles showing this side of you, you’re deeply quite sensitive. you’re very creative and intelligent as well, you come up with original ideas very easily. this placement, considering that it also forms a trine with your neptune, makes you extremely spiritual. you may have some sort of psychic talent, or at least you’re just very intuitive. you’re interested in finding out the truth in the world, and you’re willing to dive deep to uncover it.
taurus moon trine capricorn neptune: you care a lot about others and you treat others' problems as if they were yours, you get totally immersed in them. you have quite a vivid imagination, you're able to idealize and picture anything you want. while this placement gives you an incredible amount of creativity, it can also make you uncomfortable. in fact, you may actually find yourself imagining every detail of every situation, even the worst ones, and combined with your pessimism it isn't really the best thing. you have the soul of an artist; you have very enhanced emotions, and you're able to express them through artistic outlets. you could be amazing at writing poetry, books, art, music... also, your particular empathy of human's intellect can also make you an amazing psychologist or actress, as you're able to understand others' feelings and make them your own. you're extremely spiritual, and if you don't feel like that, you just have yet to have your spiritual awakening. you may be able to talk to spirits, for example, or perhaps you have very meaningful dreams. or maybe, you could literally predict the future through them. you're also most probably an avid daydreamer, you tend to get distracted easily because you're too busy thinking about random scenarios in your head. seriously, you could even make a movie out of them. you're also an hopeless romantic, and you dream of finding not just your spouse, but your literal soulmate. to make it simple, you want all of your daydreams to become reality.
taurus moon opposite scorpio pluto: your emotions are so intense that they almost scare those around you. in fact, you're prone to accentuated mood swings; when you're happy, you start smiling and laughing joyfully. when you're sad, you're the type to cry, scream, even throw up in some cases. that's how far you go with your emotions. maybe, you also feel repressed to express your feelings exactly for this reason. you probably also have a conservative/possessive mother (or just any member of your family), with whom you don't feel at ease expressing your emotions. or maybe, your mother was absent throughout your life. on the other hand, you can understand others' feelings, but be careful not to use it to manipulate others. you could also be very paranoid, and might develop addictions and anxiety disorders, especially with your virgo rising. if you don't feel comfortable speaking to someone you know and there's something you need to talk about, I'd suggest you to do it with a therapist. don't be afraid to face your emotions, you'll only be able to control them if you get know them.
🗣 mercury in scorpio, 5° / 1st decan ruled by jupiter
you're extremely blunt and straight-forward, you may actually hurt people with your words. you probably lack diplomacy, and you're very realistic. the thing is, you speak the truth, but not everyone can accept it. that's why your behaviour is so controversial. you speak fluent sarcasm, and that could annoy people who don't understand your sense of humor. you're probably good at lying, and even manipulating people. you may often make others change their mind just with your own words, but be careful not to use this skill to hurt others, or you'll only experience a sense of guilt and overall the bad sides of it. on the other hand, you're an extremely captivating speaker, you'd be successful at anything that involves the use of words and voice. you're truly intuitive, and it's easy for you to understand when someone is being honest or is lying to you. last but not least, you're very secretive as well. you're probably the type to know everything and anything about others, while you remain a mystery.
scorpio mercury square capricorn uranus: you have a very distinctive way of thinking and speaking. you don't like being like others, you don't follow trends. you're probably the trendsetter, and you may find confidence and pride in your ideas and opinions. some may even define you weird, but you have very strong beliefs that could actually be helpful for the world. you're quite 'ahead' of others from this point of view, you're able to find beauty in things without being influenced by others. for example, you may follow a fashion trend before it gets viral. you are able to come up with very innovative ways of solving problems, you're extremely creative. you may even be the type to invent your own words, or perhaps you love learning and reading new words, you have a wide vocabulary. you're also probably interested in science and any darker or logical topic, you want to use your words and theories to change something in the world. you want to leave an impact, maybe even help others through your mind. you have a very witty sense of humor, you most likely speak fluent sarcasm and you're also very astute. the problem with this harsh aspect is that you may come off as a know-it-all, especially with your virgo rising. you're proud of your intellect, you can't help but show it off, but obviously others may be jealous of you or feel attacked. for your voice, I assume you have a very particular tone, maybe even a nasal voice. you're also very intuitive, but sometimes you may be too proud of your intuition and jump fast to conclusion, even though I assume that your virgo rising makes you also look at the details, not just at the bigger picture.
❤️ venus in sagittarius, 5° / 1st decan ruled by jupiter
people may consider you flaky, as you value freedom above all. you may be the type that likes making new experiences regarding love, and you often date your crushes. yet, you feel too limited in a relationship. you don't enjoy committing to someone if that someone isn't perfect for you, you're only completely loyal to the one you consider your true love. you can't give up your freedom, your thirst for adventure and experiences for someone else. basically, your ideal partner would be a risk-taker, someone loyal but not too clingy, that is down to go on a road trip in every moment. someone impulsive, that could help you stepping out of your comfort-zone. you're probably into those youthful love stereotypes, e.g. high school dates. you want your relationships to be filled with excitement, you despise boring, traditional and cheesy things. you may also find yourself being attracted to unavailable people; that is, you could fall for people that are already taken, or maybe they're physically unavailable, e.g they live abroad or in another city in general. you're also attracted to foreigners, and people that have a wise, yet bubbly aura around them.
sagittarius venus conjunct sagittarius mars: you are very serious when it comes to love. you seek intense, long-lasting relationships, filled with both romance and passion. ironically, you tend to attract people that are the opposite, who are only looking for fun and casual romance. that could afflict your self-worth significantly, as you feel unlucky in love. this is also another placement that indicates that one of your parents, probably your father, or still anyone of the opposite sex probably influenced your approach to romance and sex. there are different scenarios I have in mind, but I'll talk about it later in the family life section.
sagittarius venus conjunct scorpio pluto: this placement is extremely intense; you have very high standards when it comes to love. you're a passionate, loyal lover, but at the same times you also want and need a lover that is willing to go as far as you go with your feelings. you may often test your partner to see if they're worthy of your love, for example. you have this sort of self-destructive behaviour that makes people stressed, just because you have extreme trust issues and you feel the need to control everyone, especially if 'everyone' is your lover. you find yourself being more attracted to 'darker' types; that is, you may be into bad boys / girls, someone with an edgy / grunge aesthetic. you're probably into the idea of that passionate, even kinky love, despite being quite afraid of opening up to others. you despise too much intimacy, especially since you may often attract and / or fall for self-centered players that don't care about the intensity and purity of your feelings. you may have a few trust issues that lead you into being extremely jealous and / or possessive. you could even get quite stalker-ish at times, but in the best way possible of course. that isn't because you want to take over your partner's life, but you need to feel secure and understand whether you're dedicating your time and your heart to the right person or you're just wasting yourself. a betrayal would hurt you deeply, as you'd literally die for the one you love.
☄️ mars in sagittarius, 13° / 2nd decan ruled by jupiter and mars
you are driven by a strong sense of justice that makes you want to discover the truth. you hate lies of any kind, you want sincerity from those around you and you're the first to be constantly honest. you value your freedom a lot, your life motto is most likely 'live and let live'. you think everyone should live their lives by their own standards, without feeling afraid of being judged or criticized. you're a very pure and genuine person, you hardly ever judge a book by its cover, and you're also extremely open-minded. you're thirsty for knowledge of any kind, you're always up to learn something new. you may also be interested in foreign languages and cultures, as well as philosophy, literature... anything that can teach you something new about the world. you may be quite impulsive, and when you get angry you tend to be very blunt. you may say things that hurt others, as you're brutally honest, even though that wasn't your intention. you may also appear as flaky, since you don't like feeling tied to something or someone. you could often change your favourite colour, food, singer... you despise boredom, and your need for freshness may also manifest in your relationships.
sagittarius mars conjunct sagittarius jupiter: this aspect enhances your sagittarius energy even more; you are very strong and bold, you are a very curious individual and you want to explore everything about your surroundings, making you almost a risk-taker. I find this a good placement, as it helps you being less practical as a virgo rising, living more in the moment but not too impulsively. you have high expectations, and with this placement you are assertive enough to make your dreams come true. you are very brave, and even if you get scared to still seem collected; the problem with this placement is that you may be quite impulsive, you may say or do things that could hurt others and you could feel guilty about it, as you may often find yourself in unpleasant and / or embarrassing situations. you may also tend to get physically violent when you get really angry, or at least you feel the need to vent your anger phisically.

❤️ love life, soulmates
in love you attract pisces, sagittarius, gemini, aquarius and capricorn placements. your future spouse will most likely have some of their planets in gemini or capricorn; they’ll be well-balanced, with a stable job and finances. yet, they won’t be too much of a workaholic, as they’re also most probably a chill individual who loves relax and vacation as well. they could also be foreign and very open-minded. yet, they could be quite impulsive and chilidish at times. your children will have aquarius placements, as well as pisces and cancer traits too. they’ll be extremely open-minded and intelligent; they could be a bit rebellious, but in a very woke and revolutionary way. they'll be very creative and emotional too. also, this placement indicates that you may get pregnant unexpectedly, so be careful to that.
👶🏻 family life
your mother was probably very outgoing, sociable and open-minded. she was probably very intelligent too, and she could have been a successful student. she was basically the perfect, nurturing mother. yet, she probably was too emotional, she could have even been quite possessive or moody. she probably has sagittarius and / or pisces placements in her chart, as well as 9th, 12th house placements. you could have also had to travel a lot during your childhood, perhaps you moved abroad or maybe you're bilingual. your father, on the other hand, was probably less strict than your mother. he had a complex personality, he most likely used to act different based on the situation he was him. but you most likely used to play a lot with him, you had fun together. he could have been very sociable and intelligent too. he may have gemini or virgo placements in his chart, as well as 3rd and 6th house placements. if you have siblings, they have scorpio or aries placements in their chart, as well as 1st / 8th house placements. you might have fought a lot when you were young, there were many control issues and your bond is very intense. yet, you're still very affectionate, and your bond will probably get better as time goes by. they may also have taurus, libra, pisces and / or sagittarius in their chart.
📊 career
your future career will most likely involve communication of any kind; you could have to interact with other people, and hence you may work in a place that allows you to communicate with others and that can get quite crowded, like a shop for example. you'll most likely start from these small jobs, like working in a cafe for example. yet, your gemini midheaven indicates that you can handle way stronger careers; you would do amazing as a writer or journalist for example, or perhaps you could even become an amazing teacher / professor. I also see you working abroad or in contact with foreign people. you may become a translator of any kind, or maybe a stewardess, anything that will put you in touch with other cultures. you will start from simple things, but as time goes by, you'll be able to become more independent, maybe even a leader. you probably won't have to depend too much on other people.
👚 fashion sense, style analysis
your sagittarius energy screams grunge! you probably love 90s/00s aesthetic, with fishnets, black, burgundy, belts, leather jackets... all of this stuff. also, oversized clothes are a must for you. you may especially be fond of wearing tight tops with baggy jeans or viceversa: tight pants, possibly leggins, with big, long sweatshirts and t-shirts. it's very comfortable, but you still make it look trendy and particular with your charisma. you may also love printed things, especially graphic t-shirts. for shoes, I'd say trendy sneakers and boots are a must in your wardrobe.
👁 past life, life purpose
during your past life, you probably didn’t have as many challenges as in this life. you most likely used to depend on someone else; perhaps, you married someone rich, hence you didn’t really have to work for your resources. this lifetime, you need to step up your game and become independent. your path to luck and abundance may be long and steep, but your venus being conjunct the north node indicates that you may achieve great personal success in this lifetime. you just need to work on your self-esteem and have stable finances, you shouldn’t over-indulge. to boost your security, you could try using loa, as well as the advices I gave you above.
🤔 major transits analysis / may 3rd
a few unpredictable, possibly painful events may occur in this period of time, as transit uranus is in your 8th house almost conjunct your natal moon. there could be an unexpected loss of money for example, or even death. maybe also an issue surrounding your family life, or something metaphorical. something will happen that will surely change your view of things and will help you have a major transformation.
🧿 manifest what you want, secret skills
with your water placements, you probably have a 6th sense. you’re able to manifest what you want if you subconsciously predict it, even though it may be hard. you’d have to get in touch with your higher self to do so, and hence I would suggest you to light up some candles and meditate for a bit before manifesting, in this way it will be way more effective. you may manifest something while daydreaming, for example. or perhaps, you can also try listening to your own affirmations while you sleep, as you won’t be consciously aware of that. it’s probably the most effective way.
and this is it! thank you again for booking a reading, hope it resonated with you :)

Hey let’s take a moment to appreciate Stage 2 Touhou bosses because a lot of them are really great.
Hina Kagiyama and Sekibanki are some of my favorite characters in the Touhou series with fantastic themes, both for the stage and the boss, and both are some of the most aesthetically pleasing designs ZUN has ever produced. I find both of these characters to be really cool, though for the most part in opposite ways. I like how Hina has a power that seems scary and dangerous, but she uses it to help people and is incredibly dedicated towards making human lives better. I mean, the first time I saw the name of her theme, I thought she was going to be a final boss with a song titled “The Dark Side of Fate” but no she’s really cool and nice! And Sekibanki is a different kind of cool, a more laid back coolness where even though she’s a youkai she manages to live pretty peacefully in the human village. Gensokyo is generally represented as a really laid-back relaxed land outside of incidents, and I feel like Sekibanki really emphasizes that, she fought because she was worked up by the Miracle Mallet, but otherwise she’s so peaceful and uninterested in the greater goings on that she didn’t even care about the religious wars whatsoever. She seems to take a pretty neutral stance on most things and for a series where just about everyone is ready to throw down at the drop of a hat (or bow, or animal ears, or parasol, or...) that’s a pretty special trait.
Of course, we can’t forget about probably the most memorable thing about any Touhou, the spell cards, and these two characters have wonderful spell cards! Hina has a major spiral motif going on which leads to really beautiful danmaku patterns of swirls everywhere, and her intangible midboss state where she spawns series of enemies is pretty cool too. Then with Sekibanki, they really get a lot out of her being a rokurokubi/nukekubi/dullahan. Her spellcards where she has a bunch of flying heads looks really cool, and the laser eye effect is fantastic!
Both of these characters provide some fun boss fights, and despite their tendencies towards more passive natures I’d love to see both show up in another game someday. I mean, with Jo’on and Shion around spreading misfortune and curses everywhere Hina has a pretty good reason to show up and take them away given what her job is, show them what a misfortune goddess who helps humans looks like! With Sekibanki, as previously noted her tendency towards not getting involved in things is a pretty notable character element to her so finding a reason for her to get involved in really any incident is much tougher, but I’d love to get dullahan head options that fire off laser eyes in a shooter someday, and seeing dialogue from a character even less interested in getting involved in the dealings of Gensokyo would probably lead to some pretty humorous interactions.
So those are two of my top touhou characters, but Stage 2 bosses don’t stop being great there! Kogasa Tatara is also really cool! When you get right down to it, Kogasa is a ~surprisingly~ deep and interesting character, and I mean, hey, that’s generally the point. At first glance she seems like probably the most generic moe character of the group, a standard umbrella monster that even I, with very little information about japanese folklore, could recognize due to the Kirby midboss Jumpershoot, she’s shown as generally being a failure at most things which, yeah, generic monster, standard moe woobiness, we’ve got ourselves a pretty generic character who’ll probably be loved by the otaku community, right? Actually, no! (Well, no about genericness, the community is gonna do what the community is gonna do.) When you look deeper into her and her backstory, she’s got some cool stuff going on!
Her whole deal is subverting expectations, on easy mode her final spell card is ridiculously hard, she appears as the game’s extra stage midboss despite being the only character to have nothing to do with the main plot, she shows up on the game’s music CD, she even shows up in the youkai temple stage of the next game despite, once again, being the one character LEAST likely to appear there from 12 since she really isn’t connected to that group through her lore like the others are! She does more to surprise the players and community than to surprise anyone in-universe, perhaps she has some fourth-wall awareness in that regard? I do love my fourth-wall breakers and having one of a more subtle nature like this rather than just an in-your-face one like we usually see would be a pretty cool and fitting entry for Gensokyo!
Plus, Kogasa is a purple umbrella, and purple is great! I’d keep around a purple umbrella, would’t you?
Another Touhou stage 2 character I find great is Kyouko Kasodani! For her, she’s a dog! And dog girls are great! Why are cat girls popular when there are dog girls instead!? More than that though, I love the way her ability plays into her spellcards. Echoing sound is a cool ability for nearly any character, echolocation is a really neat ability both in real life and in fiction, and when used as a weapon it can make for come cool attacks and abilities. Shade Man and his weapon the Noise Crush from Mega Man 7 come to mind in this regard, his boss fight was really fun and hectic, and I loved using the Noise Crush as a super speed charge shot, a boss-defeating exploit, and just a generally easthetically pleasing projectile. Kyouko with her spellcards has all of that and more, creating really cool patterns of her bullets bouncing around all over the place that creates a fun looking spellcard that can often be difficult to predict and dodge. Well, for me anyway, I’m not necessarily that good at these games.
Also appropriate for a character with the power of sound, she has some really great music, her stage theme and boss theme are some of my favorites from 13, and in particular I adore this remix of the stage theme. I listen to it all the time! I tend to like nearly any stage 2 music more than average, but Kyouko’s really stands out among the crowd as a top-tier Touhou track. For a series known for great music, I’d say that is high praise!
Of course, going from Kyouko, can’t forget about her pal, fellow Stage 2 boss Mystia Lorelei. I don’t necessarily have as much connection to her since I never played any of the games she was in, but hey, she was playable in PoFV so that’s pretty neat! Setting up a band with Kyouko is pretty silly, and I really like the dynamic between them and their abilities.
The last Stage 2 character that really sticks out to me is Parsee Mizuhashi, and it’s mostly because of her being such a tragic figure. I don’t feel like I need to get too much into her backstory and such, but hey, she’s sad yo! Or, well, jealous, really. Such an intense power, she’s truly one of the more dangerous creatures in Gensokyo, despite not being able to rend reality with her will alone or anything, the effect she can have on a person’s mind can be even more terrifying. She also had a really well designed outfight with a nice cool color scheme, a fantastic scarf, and surprisingly no headwear of any kind! Or do her pointy-looking ears count? They probably do. Or maybe she doesn’t have any so she can be jealous of everyone else’s.
Of course this isn’t to put down the other stage 2 bosses, the likes of Cirno and Chen are extremely popular, no real need to get into them. Meanwhile, Ringo and Nemuno Sakata just don’t stand out to me very much, but they’re also the latest Touhou characters so maybe we’ll see more from them in the future that’ll make me like them even more. Still good songs for them at least, before the full game was released and brought us the crazy backup dancers and Okina’s numerous themes Nemuno’s track was one I listened to a lot from 16.
Stage 2 bosses are rarely related to the larger ongoing plot of any game, and as such a lot of these characters don’t get nearly as much focus or attention as so many others, but as a whole I’d say stage 2 consistently brings us wonderful characters, and I hope I’ve been able to highlight some characters and traits that maybe you wouldn’t have paid as much attention to otherwise.

Week Three: Adventures of MechaBetty Review
Robots, cyborgs, and androids are not territory very commonly explored in audio drama and I don’t think anyone is going to correct me on that. We’ve had our fair share of artificial intelligence from nearly every sci-fi show on the planet or otherwise organic humans with mechanical attachments or replacements, but the whole sentient metal warrior thing just hasn’t really come to full circle.
When it came to covering the concept of innovation for this year’s September in Review, Adventures of MechaBetty was an easy qualifier that I didn’t have to dig too deep into to find its unique qualities.
From the title to its short but open ended description, Adventures of MechaBetty by someone I only know as Titankore, is likely one of the more “out there” pieces of audio drama I’ve come across, and that’s saying a lot. This is mostly dealing with premise alone, its plot sounding like something right out of an action cartoon or anime, and that’s certainly something I can’t say for a lot of shows.
Though I’m awfully familiar with both topics and even find myself emulating it into my online identity, be it through the use of tasteful gifs or railing these reviews out in between episodes of OK KO, I have yet to see it properly be put to use in an audio format beyond the usual discussion between working adults.
(Which one’s your favorite? Mine’s the Pizza Party Podcast.) But that stuff is all grounded in reality while my tastes lean more towards the array of fiction crafted by a variety of independent artists making a year’s worth of audio entertainment. And Titankore is no exception to this. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when getting into Adventures of MechaBetty and I have to say I’m still fairly surprised by what I found.
The story of MechaBetty is rather simple at first glance. When the earth gets attacked from an alien menace, it’s up to a normal human girl who willingly turns herself into a giant cyborg to fight them off. With the help of her friends, we’ll see if she has what it takes to save the world. From episode one alone we get a pretty broad idea of what direction the show will be going and things luckily kick off pretty quickly from the first joyful burst of jazz music.
MechaBetty comes with some fairly smooth and nicely constructed audio-good use of music cues and some simple but effective sound tricks, all for the sake of servicing this vibe of old timey radio. It’s nothing especially elaborate as far as editing goes, but its functional enough to get its message across. It makes for an interesting overarching aesthetic-this combination of mech fights with an opening theme consisting of female scatting-that gives Adventures of MechaBetty quite the distinct identity in a community full of eclectic names already.
As far as characters go, and we’re given quite a bit, they’re all generally likable. From the roster we have scientists, reporters, and doctors that make for some fun and colorful people and non-people to root for. Personally, I was particularly interested in whatever is going on with the evil aliens, even if we don’t get to spend too much time with them. I just personally found their scenes more intriguing and their all around plan interesting enough to see what else they had up their sleeve.
MechaBetty does take some great strides to portray a truly adventurous world that isn’t afraid to take things slow and occasionally explain itself. Aside from some neat little parts I can only properly describe as action scenes, there’s quite a bit of time spent focusing on dialogue and negotiating strategy between both the heroes and villains. I do appreciate a show that doesn’t reduce itself to the equivalent of audio clutter and MechaBetty’s all around presentation does service to keep its story easy to follow despite all that might be going on.
Despite how obtuse the idea, the whole concept is easy to digest, even if there are quite a few elements working against its favor.
Voice acting can be very hit or miss, some characters, specifically General Helen who is voiced by Liz Madden, have smooth and controlled deliveries that are well in character while others vary from being painfully flat to being just a little too eccentric to be pleasant on the ears. There’s a very distinct difference between those in the cast who are acting more naturally and those who are just reading the lines with a little extra inflection.
A lot of people also speak with accents varying from German to Russian to southern which makes each character easy to recognize from the second they speak but might just make the strange assortment of lines and the occasional bad take all the more obvious. Luckily our main star, MechaBetty herself, voiced by Jennifer Tiles, has a fitting pick for her voice. It’s expressive and perky and cute enough for you to grow to like her from the second she can properly process words in her robot form.
But the issues arise again for the writing that varies from realistic and weighty conversations (at least by audio drama standards) and being especially hammy and simple. Some jokes lean on the obvious and will clash with an upcoming curse word and technical jargon coming up a second later, for example.
If this is intentionally meant to invoke the lighthearted feel of Saturday morning cartoons is debatable, though the show’s ability to just stick to one or the other seems to be based entirely off whatever mood the current scene we’re taking part in. So excuse me if I can’t really make heads or tails over what exact vibe Adventures of MechaBetty is going for as an entire show. If it is a deliberate parody of itself, then there aren’t enough jokes and subversions to service it, but if it’s being played straight, then we’re not given enough original material to make listening to MechaBetty the truly fun and memorable action comedy experience it wants to be.
It’s one part robot girl action show and another part government conspiracies and another part building/repairing things so it may be up to personal preference about which aspect you like the most. All of which are delivered with a sort of flare and fun energy that I found myself grinning at every once and while, but the effect only lingers for so long.
All around, MechaBetty is a comedy but even those looking for something genuinely hilarious may be let down due to the assortment of simple jokes that won’t make anyone whose watched preteen television in the past year all that impressed.
Actually, MechaBetty would do itself a great service by going all out with its premise, truly reveling in its own strangeness. So it was a major letdown to see just how tame things turned out to be once I got through the current stretch of episodes. No twists or turns I couldn’t predict, no especially quirky scenarios to visualize with colorful vividness-just setup following setup with no real spark.
But once again, I find myself wondering if if this is supposed to invoke the Saturday morning superhero show thing and even that feels like an excuse to give the writing a pass.
MechaBetty certainly delivers eccentricity to the table, it easily being the only podcast I can describe with such terminologies I would normally reserve for cartoons, but I can’t say what I’ve seen of the series has left a big impression on me. The all around package still feels a little half baked and for a comedy show it’s a touch lacking in genuine humor.
As I’ve experienced with shows like Jim Robbie and the Wanderers, good ideas colliding with average takes makes for a show that never quite reaches its peak performance level and could use a little more time being work shopped before becoming whole with its concept. What Adventures of MechaBetty truly lacks is a supremely extravagant, shotgun blast of a story that will give its inspiration the proper kudos it deserves. An utterly self indulgent take on the campiest of camp and the most flashy and shiny and obscenely geeky piece of entertainment it can possibly rise itself up to. If anything, MechaBetty could benefit from being just a little more insane. If your gonna go weird, then I say go completely nuts.
The general premise and ideas may be just off-the-wall enough for those looking for that kind of variety in their day, and Adventures of MechaBetty is certainly there for people looking for a harmless try at action tropes in audio form, but its systems could use a reboot.
