Mimics
A lot of fantasy settings have the iconic mimic, a creature that disguises itself as a treasure chest or some other container of fortune and wealth routinely and inexplicably stumbled across during a common adventurer's work.
My fantasy setting has mimics, too. But they are NOT like that. Instead, the Aurusian Mimic is a mass of amorphous muscle tissue, approximately the size of a bowling ball when in a relaxed state. It has the ability to freely reconfigure the shape of its body mass into whatever it wishes - albeit not with exact precision. It has complete control over its pigmentation and the surface texture of its outermost skin layer. It constantly secretes sticky, slimy grey mucus from every part of its body that, if it contacts other organic matter, acts like a digestive acid, creating rashes and irritations while being SUPER adhesive.
As beings of pure muscle mass, a Mimic can deliver a tremendous amount of force if it launches itself at something, despite its small size. A mimic snapping to attack a human face will cave in the victim's skull with relative ease, then wrap its formless body around the brain to start digesting.
As a result, most mimics are ambush predators that hide in seemingly innocuous spaces in their homes in deep underground caverns. They will disguise themselves as part of the wall, or as an edible piece of fungus that another cave dweller might eat. Or, in some cases, the particularly clever Mimic may disguise itself as a newborn or infant of another species. With its amorphous body, it can - to some extent - replicate the sounds of other creatures by fabricating vocal cords. The most terrifying example of this known to Aurusian scholars is when a Mimic will emulate the cries of a human infant, a sound the mimics have learned over generations spent living in close proximity to settlements of humans and humanoids that live in the world's subterranean tunnel network. Mamallian instinct drives us to find and defend our young - even if it is not our own flesh and blood - with fervor unmatched. As such, crying babies are often the perfect bait for the unprepared.
The first recorded instance of this saw a man stumbling across the disguised mimic. It is said that the mimic resembled a human baby only vaguely. There were no facial features on its smooth, white, moist head. There were no fingers or toes on its hands or feet. Its head was too big for its body, and it vaguely resembled twitching half-melted candle wax. Then it launched itself at the poor man who found it. He was dead in seconds.
Despite the terrifying nature of the mimic, however, the deepfolk who dwell underground have found ways to exploit their properties to their own advantage. Mimics are dangerous to consume since they can just eat their predator from the inside out. As such, deepfolk have taken to capturing mimics, bathing them in pots and vats filled with residual grease-fat from other hunted creatures, and then using these mimics as bait for some of the more enormous monstrosities that call the underworld home. Such as the notorious Boreworm, a carnivorous earthworm up to 30 feet in length. By luring a boreworm to try and eat a mimic, the deepfolk will barely have to lift a finger after the initial mimic toss to get an enormous haul of muscle-dense, protein-rich meat to feed their communities on.

The Lost Super Foods. The U.S Military’s Forgotten Horn of Plenty $ 126 Forgotten Survival Foods.
**Subject Line: The U.S. Military’s Forgotten Horn of Plenty**
Body:
Have you ever heard of the “Horn of Plenty”? Sounds like something out of Greek mythology, right? Well, it actually refers to a forgotten chapter in American military history: a collection of nutrient-dense foods that the U.S. military developed and used for survival during World War II and beyond. The idea was simple: pack as many calories and as much nutrition into as little space as possible for soldiers in the field.
Tumblr media
The military’s forgotten Horn of Plenty was essentially a prototype of the modern-day “survival food.” These foods were designed to be easy to store, transport, and consume in emergency situations. Think concentrated proteins, vitamins, and essential fatty acids — all in compact, long-lasting packages. However, due to evolving military needs, the food supplies fell into obscurity and are now largely forgotten.
Some of these survival foods included nutrient-dense cubes, dried fruits, and “instant” rations that could provide more energy than a standard meal. One of the most famous of these was the “C-Ration,” which soldiers often carried during wartime. Though practical, these meals left much to be desired in terms of taste and variety. But what many don’t know is that these rations were based on some of the most innovative approaches to food preservation and nutrition at the time.
So why don’t we hear more about the Horn of Plenty? As wartime needs changed, newer technologies and foods began to take their place, making these early survival foods a relic of a bygone era. But here’s the thing: many of the principles behind these military rations are still highly relevant for prepping, long-term storage, and wilderness survival today.
If you’re into preparedness or just curious about forgotten military innovations, the history of these foods might be a fascinating dive into nutrition, survival science, and how necessity shapes food technology. In fact, some of these survival foods, though outdated, still offer incredible lessons on how we can store and preserve food in ways that keep us healthy in a crisis.

**Subject Line: 126 Forgotten Survival Foods That You Should Add to Your Stockpile**
Body:
When you think of a survival stockpile, what comes to mind? Canned beans? Freeze-dried meals? While these are great staples, there’s a whole world of forgotten survival foods that could offer higher nutritional value, longer shelf life, and even better taste in a crisis. You may not realize it, but a huge number of potential survival foods have been pushed aside by more modern (and sometimes less nutritious) options.
Here are just a few forgotten survival foods you should seriously consider adding to your stockpile:
1. **Jerusalem Artichokes (Sunchokes)**: High in fiber and a great source of iron, sunchokes can be grown easily and stored for long periods. They’re also packed with inulin, a prebiotic that supports gut health. 2. **Acorns**: These nuts are full of calories and can be turned into flour once properly leached. They’ve been a staple for many Indigenous cultures and can be found in forests across North America.
3. **Dandelion Greens**: Often dismissed as a weed, dandelions are a powerhouse of nutrition. The leaves are packed with vitamins A, C, and K, and they can be dried and stored for later use.
4. **Pemmican**: This traditional Native American food is made from dried meat, fat, and berries, and it can last for years without spoiling. It’s calorie-dense and provides a great mix of protein and fat for long-term energy.
5. **Moringa**: Known as the “Miracle Tree,” moringa leaves are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and protein. You can grow moringa almost anywhere and it’s incredibly resilient to drought.
6. **Seaweed**: Seaweed varieties like nori, kelp, and wakame are loaded with iodine, calcium, and other essential minerals. They store well and can provide a key nutritional supplement during extended emergencies.
7. **Cabbage**: Cabbage may not be flashy, but it’s incredibly hardy and can be fermented into sauerkraut, which adds probiotics and extends shelf life for months or even years.
8. **Beef or Bison Tallow**: Rendered animal fats are a great long-term storage food, especially in cold climates where they can be kept at room temperature without refrigeration.
9. **Squash and Pumpkins**: These are highly nutritious and store incredibly well in a cool, dry place. They can be eaten fresh or preserved in a variety of ways — canned, dried, or pureed.
10. **Potatoes**: Though fresh potatoes are perishable, they can be stored long-term if dehydrated or freeze-dried. They’re a great source of carbs and essential vitamins.
This is just the tip of the iceberg — there are *126* unique, lesser-known survival foods that could improve the resilience of your food stockpile. Whether you’re prepping for an emergency, planning a long-term off-grid lifestyle, or just interested in making sure you’re well-prepared for any eventuality, it’s worth exploring these forgotten foods that could be the key to your survival.
Not only are these foods nutritious, but they can also help diversify your stockpile, reducing reliance on commercial rations and offering a wider range of flavors and textures when the standard canned goods run out. Plus, many of these foods can be grown in your own backyard, ensuring you’re not just prepared, but self-sufficient.
So what forgotten survival foods do you swear by? Let’s get a discussion going on what you think should be on every prepper’s list!

Creating a super simple and budget-friendly diet that is also nutritionally sound can be achieved by focusing on affordable, nutrient-dense foods and incorporating locally available wild foods. Here's a sample diet plan suitable for someone with limited financial resources living in the Slovakian climate:
Breakfast:
Oatmeal: Start the day with a hearty bowl of oatmeal made with rolled oats and water or milk (if available). Oats are affordable and rich in fiber, providing sustained energy throughout the morning.
Wild berries: If in season, add wild berries such as blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries for extra flavor, antioxidants, and vitamins.
Lunch:
Lentil Soup: Prepare a simple lentil soup using dried lentils, water, and seasonings such as salt, pepper, and herbs. Lentils are a cost-effective source of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients.
Wild greens: Forage for wild greens such as nettles, dandelion leaves, or wild spinach to add to the soup for added nutrition and flavor.
Bread: Serve the soup with a slice of whole grain bread or homemade flatbread for added carbohydrates and satisfaction.
Snack:
Apple slices: Enjoy a fresh apple, which is affordable and packed with vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.
Dinner:
Rice and Beans: Cook a simple rice and beans dish using inexpensive ingredients like white rice, dried beans (such as kidney beans or black beans), and basic seasonings. Beans provide protein, while rice offers carbohydrates for energy.
Wild mushrooms: If available, forage for wild mushrooms such as porcini or chanterelles to add to the rice and beans for flavor and nutritional variety.
Steamed vegetables: Serve the meal with a side of steamed vegetables such as carrots, cabbage, or broccoli for added vitamins and minerals.
Additional Tips:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support overall health.
Use affordable staples such as onions, garlic, and potatoes to add flavor and bulk to meals.
Consider planting a small vegetable garden or foraging for wild edibles to supplement your diet with fresh produce.
Experiment with different herbs and spices to add variety and flavor to your meals without breaking the bank.
By focusing on affordable staples, incorporating locally available wild foods, and making use of simple cooking methods, you can create a nutritionally sound diet that nourishes your body while being mindful of your budget constraints.

Top 10 foods for fitness
Tumblr media
What are the top 10 foods for fitness?
1. Cow’s milk
Tumblr media
By Thealthiest Web Desk: With hydrating water, muscle-healing protein, refueling sugar, and bone-healthy calcium, milk is an excellent choice for those who are increasing their level of physical activity. Thanks to its slow-digesting casein and ability to support sleep-inducing melatonin, a glass of tepid milk before bedtime may also help you fade off and get the rest you need.
Fitness benefits
Chocolate milk has always been an endurance athlete favorite. It may sound deleterious, but it contains the two essential constituents you need after a workout: carbohydrates for energy and protein for muscle repair. A fruit beverage or fruit smoothie prepared at home will also suffice.
Recipes to try
Super berry smoothie Cranberry and raspberry smoothie Avocado and strawberry smoothie
2. Dried fruit
Tumblr media
Dried fruits (such as apricots, raisins, and mango) provide a concentrated source of carbohydrates, which makes them an excellent source of energy. Every bite will also provide you with dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, including potassium.
Fitness benefits
If you can't tolerate energy gels, dried fruit is a wonderful natural alternative because it is rich in carbohydrates that provide energy. Aim for one to two servings prior to a race and two to three servings per hour of running. (one serving is roughly three dried figs).
As with all consumables, competitors should experiment with dehydrated fruit during training and not on the day of the competition.
Recipes to try
Dried fruit energy nuggets Choc orange energy boosters Energy balls
3. Broccoli (and other green veg)
Tumblr media
Broccoli, kale, spinach, and green cabbage are among the most nutrient-dense foods you'll discover. They contain antioxidants that combat free radicals, fiber that aids in digestion, and an army of vitamins and minerals. They are also an excellent source of folate, which is believed to be beneficial for cardiac health and for women who are trying to conceive.
Fitness benefits
When it comes to bone-building calcium, plant-based foods like broccoli and kale are a healthful alternative to dairy products. Low calcium levels make you more susceptible to stress fractures, especially if you participate in endurance athletics; therefore, make sure you consume enough calcium – the NHS recommends 700mg per day for adults.
Recipes to try
Ginger, sesame, chilli prawn & broccoli stir-fry Chicken, kale & mushroom pot pie Creamy garlic & lemon spinach salmon
4. Sweet potatoes
Tumblr media
Sweet potatoes are versatile, provide disease-fighting beta-carotene, iron, fiber, and vitamin C, and count as one of your daily five servings. They may be pureed, baked, or prepared as paté.
Fitness benefits
Sweet potatoes are an excellent supplement to a carb-loading diet, particularly before a half marathon. In addition, they are rich in the electrolyte potassium, which can help prevent cramping during exercise.
Recipes to try
Sweet potato & peanut curry Crispy cod wedges with sweet potato wedges
5. Bananas
Tumblr media
Bananas are the ideal fitness food because they are small, portable, easy to digest, and loaded with nutrients. Don't discard the skin so quickly, however, as Taiwanese dietitians discovered that it contains not only more potassium, but also mood-boosting serotonin and eye-protecting lutein. Try the entire banana, including the rind, in a smoothie.
Fitness benefits
Bananas contain slightly more energy than other fruits, but the majority of their calories come from carbohydrates, making them ideal for refueling before, during, and after exercise. In addition, they are loaded with potassium, which may prevent muscle spasms during exercise.
Recipes to try
Mango & banana smoothie Malt loaf with banana & honey Peanut butter & banana on toast

Early morning beach walks, heat-soaked sand warming the bottom of your feet as it shifts and hisses with each step you take along the shoreline, is one thing that you can honestly admit to loving.
Being stranded on an uncharted island is not exactly great. Apart from the lack of proper vitamins—though you and Bucky had been making it work and with the knowledge of boar now, there’s your protein—no ice cubes, and no air conditioning, there are some things that you enjoy here.
These walks are one.
You enjoyed last night.
It’s been two weeks since Ryan came to live with you and Bucky, and every night is spent waiting for Bucky to sneak into the fuselage to come and hold you while you sleep.
Well, last night had been a little different. You’d fallen asleep with his head buried against your neck, your arms around his impossibly wide shoulders. Last night he’d let you see more of that vulnerability in him. The inescapable truth that even though he’s making all this work for the two of you—now three—he wants off this island too.
As you come to a stop, you take in the sky. Along the horizon painted around the bearably bright white-orange orb that is the sun, is a glowing and stunning fire red that fades out into a burnt orange, a splash of burgundy and gray before it changes into the deep purple night sky.
It’s so beautiful. This sunrise, bringing with it a new day of promise. A new day of secret looks and lingering touches.
Your mind is flooded with them. Each one more precious than the last.
Bucky hands you your food pack and he holds his hand over yours, fingers overlapping, for two seconds too long. At lunch he sits close. Knees touching before he leans back on his hands and one is so conveniently placed behind you so that it’s almost like he’s got his arm around you.
So many tiny hints that you’ve carefully calculated and added together and realize that Bucky must feel like you do. There’s no other explanation for it.
Maybe, if he were just as touchy feely with Ryan then you might consider it a possibility that he’s just that outgoing. That affectionate. But he only does this with you. He comes to your bed at night—thank goodness.
Last night it had been very clear that he wanted you to hug him, face buried in your neck or pressed tentatively against your chest until he relaxes enough that you can ask him how he’s feeling.
You chew on your scratchy chapped lip, watching as the water changes from dark turquoise to crystal green.
What will Bucky think when he wakes up and you aren’t beside him?
Usually it’s the other way around. Bucky is always gone when you wake up. Last night you’d been woken up by painful memories turned dreams. A life previously lived before the world had fallen apart.
Somehow, you find yourself being grateful for it. All of it. Because it somehow brought you here. To Bucky.
But you’d needed air and that’s why you’re on this beach, earlier than you normally are.
You can’t be imagining things, right? Bucky seems like he likes you too. It’s a little unfair to him if you’re honest. Who else can he like here? Ryan?
Nothing you’ve seen has indicated that he’s gay. If he’s bi, then maybe Ryan but Bucky seems to bristle every time Ryan comes near the two of you when that special tension begins to build.
Are you reading into things too deeply?
Frustrated you slide your hand up into your hair, yanking on it in annoyance as you quickly sweep through it and begin to strip.
Just a quick swim.
 Bucky stirs, reaching for you, knowing he’ll have to hurry out of here in a minute to avoid the questions that Ryan will no doubt ask if he spots him coming out of the fuselage.
Several times, Bucky has nearly told him that he likes you. That you’re his. But he can’t. He hasn’t even told you that he likes you. What if he tells Ryan all of that and then you don’t feel the same?
Bucky thinks…he hopes you feel the same. It seems as if you do.
But in the busy hours of the day when he’s shaping clay and cooking bricks for the hut and you’re weaving the thatch for the roof, he looks up to find you smiling, laughing, or happily chatting with Ryan.
The two of you have hit it off so well and he cannot deny the chemistry that the two of you share. There’s a sparkle in both your eyes when he finds you talking. A spark. An option.
You’re the one that gets to make the choice here. You’re the one that has the right to tell either of them, or both of them, no.
So as Bucky reaches out for you, craving the soft caress of your body and hands as they stroke his hair sleepily, his heart gives a fearful lurch when his hands make no purchase in their search.
He sits up, a panic setting in as he looks around frantically.
Calm down, Bucky. She’s probably just outside.
Only you aren’t. As he emerges, he observes the long since dead cinders of the campfire. His eyes scan the area and he spots Ryan’s blanket rolled up and propped against the driftwood trunk he'd snuggled up to last night.
Where the fuck-? Bucky’s mind reels again. Calm down, Bucky. She’s probably just down by the beach.
Only you aren’t!
Where the hell is she?!
Bucky moves along the length of the spot he'd picked for the hut. Just at the edge of the dense jungle, sturdier ground to give the hut a fighting chance against any storms that may come around.
The sand is undisturbed. His empty clay trough has no water. The palm fronds you’d been tearing fibers from to weave the thatch roofing sits untouched.
There’s also no Ryan.
Suddenly he pick it up. His ears prickle at the sound of your laugh.
He launches himself to the left, ears straining to get it all more clearly.
Now he hears a more masculine tenor that mixes and blends with your own sweet sound.
His heart gives a wild clench as he takes several steps in your direction but stops and waits, eyes trained on the curve all the way down the southern shore.
It takes a few moments because you’re still far away. You’re both laughing, saying something he can’t make out then laughing again.
Bucky clenches his fists, metal screeching in protest.
They’re just walking. Keep it together.
He knows that he should keep his cool. You’d just spent all night sleeping in his arms. You’ve spent the past few months with him, depending on him. You’d declared how much you need him and-shit…
You and Ryan round the large rocks in the distance, just as he realizes that he hasn’t told you how much he needs you. How much you mean to him. He’d only just decided that he really likes you and needs to tell you but what if he’s too late?
What if you think you’ve been a burden?
He hasn’t always been nice.
Fuck.
He's taken care of you. He’s made sure that you’ve wanted for nothing, at least in the way of safety and food—though you’ve done that for him too.
Being nice however, he could have done better. He can do better.
You and Ryan get closer and he can see your skin glistening in the morning sun.
You’ve gone for your swim and Bucky’s suddenly full of fearful rage as he considers what must have happened to have you two walking back together.
He can almost picture you swimming in the sparkling turquoise water. Your naked body is silhouetted against the rising sun but he can imagine that every curve of your body had stood in sharp contrast to the bright rays.
Even in his memories—fond memories that he will never admit to thinking about as much as he does—he can see the peaks of your bare breasts. He can see the curves of your hips, your butt, your neck exposed as you throw your head back when you resurface.
His neck feels hot all of a sudden and he burns hotter when his mind is filled with the image of Ryan coming upon such an exquisite sight.
He would have stood on the beach, probably watching you for much longer than you’ll probably ever realize. Ryan probably cleared his throat when he had his fill and you would have turned maybe expecting Bucky?
Bucky hopes.
Then you’d have ducked under the surface when you realized it wasn’t Bucky but with the way he knows you and Ryan are, that innocent lilt in your voice. The meaningless flirting…
You would have come out of the water after having asked Ryan to turn his back and Ryan would have stolen a peek of your perfect form when you’d turned your back to him as you pulled on your underwear and then slipped back into that summer floral dress you’d been wearing when the plane went down.
The colors have faded a little and the bottom is just as torn as ever. You’ve taken to wearing shorts underneath as it seems to keep getting shorter and shorter the more work you do in it, but it keeps you cool so it’s a favorite of yours.
Your hair is still damp, Ryan’s shoulder bumping yours as the two of you casually walk his way.
Ryan leans closer towards you and says something that Bucky can’t hear but he can see the way it flusters you and you reach over to push him away. Ryan is sent sideways, his feet walking into the shoreline where he splashes only a little before he hurries back towards you and nudges your shoulder again but then reaches around to grab both of your arms to steady you.
He drops them right away, responding to the way you curl in on yourself at his touch, but it’s enough of an embrace that Bucky’s heart gives an ache.
What’s wrong with me? Bucky wonders, knowing that he’s completely in love with you but unable to understand how it happened.
His eyes are glue to your pretty face, the stunning smile that stretches your lips as you and Ryan exchange pleasant conversation, but Bucky can’t care enough to hear what the two of you are saying.
Your skin is glowing in the morning sun as it bounces off the layer of tiny seawater droplets.
If he could have thought up the image of perfection, he knows that he could not have dreamt you up. Yet, he knows that you are it. You’re the epitome of his desires and not just physically. Of course, that part of himself has awoken with you always so close and so exposed in the literal sense.
He’s seen more of your body than he has of any other woman’s in his life, ever maybe.
Sure, there’d been a dalliance here and there in the back of a powder blue Cadillac, but those girls hadn’t undressed. Bunch of dresses pushed up around their waists as the fluffy scratchy fabrics underneath had scratched at his neck and face.
Yes, he has enjoyed the sight of you, but it goes beyond that now.
His attachment, his need comes from your own. In your eyes he can see you search for him, needing him just as he does. You’ve become the other half of his heart. The part that had lost all purpose when Hydra had twisted him mind into the Soldier.
Hearts were for beating. Staying alive. Nothing more.
Until you.
Then it began to hurt and pine and want again. It began to soften with affection at every corny joke, every lingering touch, every sweet chuckle.
You’ve wormed your way under his skin and there’s no way he can keep pretending that he doesn’t already think of you as his. Just as he’s already yours.
“…bucky?...Bucky…?” You sound far away but you’re in front of him, walking closer, your mouth moving but he almost doesn’t hear you.
“Is he alright?” Ryan asks, his voice distant too.
“I don’t know.” You frown, concern turning the corners of your lips down. “Bucky?”
“Ya alright, mate?” Ryan reaches over and gives Bucky’s right shoulder a soft slap, but the gesture doesn’t even move his massive body.
Bucky’s gaze is pull to him and Bucky sees red.
~~~~~~~~~~
Your heart is pounding with fear as you watch the glare that Bucky fixes on Ryan.
Ryan shrinks back a step, still looking a bit concerned by Bucky’s strange stoic stare. However, with Bucky’s sudden flare of rage, you’re almost certain that he’s going to deck him. Bucky is going to punch Ryan, right in the mouth. You just know it.
Instead, Bucky marches between the two of you, separating you with his large body.
As he passes he takes hold of your hand, the metal cool compared to the sun soaked warmth of your skin, and pulls you along down the beach.
“Bucky!” You gasp.
“Where ya going?” Ryan asks, turning to watch the two of you go with his arms thrown out to the sides as his confusion grows.
“I’m not-Can you get the bottles of water from camp?” You call back to him, tripping over your feet a little as you try to match Bucky’s pace.
Reaching out, you wrap your free hand around his metal bicep to get more balance.
“Ya, alright.” Ryan calls back.
“Bucky where are we going?” You demand.
“To check the fish nets.” He explains shortly.
“I already did that.” Ryan retorts, raising his voice so that you can both hear him as Bucky pulls you along further and further.
“To get some fruit then.” Bucky counters.
You realize now that he wants to get you alone, so you turn to follow him without resistance.
Bucky doesn’t speak until you’re both far away from the beach by the hut. He turns you into the small break in the trees where you normally come to pick bananas and mangoes.
Dropping your hand he immediately stoops down and begins to rifle through the fallen mangoes, squeezing them gently to see if they are ripe or spoiled.
“Bucky?” You sigh, watching him ignore you for a bit before you sigh and move to help with the fruit.
You’re not sure how he expects you to carry more than two or three with no basket. Minutes pass. Five, ten, fifteen minutes of sifting through fallen fruit before your arms are full and with a sigh you drop them and reach down to rip more of your dress to wrap them up and carry them more easily.
You’re not very careful with your tearing or as precise as Bucky when he did it that first time all those months ago, so you tear too much and the rip on one side runs all the way up your side exposing your skin.
“What are you doing?!” Bucky gasps, dropping the fruits in his arms as he rushes for you.
The plop, thud, plop of the fruits draws your eyes before his massive form is beside you pushing your hands away from your dress. The shorts underneath are more visible now and tattered like all of your clothes. They’re more durable made of jeans, but you use them to do everything so they’re your most worn piece of clothing.
Your arms fall limply at your sides as your patience wears thin. You chew on your lip hard, urging your voice to be even as you look at him, your eyes searching his furrowed brow, those frantic blue steel eyes.
He’s got something on his mind but he’s not sharing and it’s really starting to piss you off!
As he holds your dress closed, he meets your eyes, hesitating to keep hold of your gaze.
“What’s going on?” You wonder.
“Nothing.” Bucky shrugs. “Don’t rip your dress anymore. Don’t you like this one?”
“Bucky…” You sigh again, urging yourself to have patience.
There’s a sudden shift in his expression, an anger that flashes behind his eyes and it only spurs your own on.
Why would he be angry with you?!
“Just, stop showing the pilot skin.” He lets your dress go and moves back to his abandoned pile of fruit.
“Are you joking?! What does that even mean, Bucky?” Your blood is boiling.
“He likes you.” Bucky declares, throwing the words over his shoulder as if you’re stupid not to have noticed.
“I-” You stutter, trying to wrap your mind around his words, what he means, why it matters, what his anger could indicate. “So what?”
Bucky’s shoulders tense.
“It doesn’t matter if he likes me or not. In case you haven’t noticed, I am the only woman on this island, so he really doesn’t have much of a selection. If we were back on the mainland, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t spare me a glance.”
“Is that really what matters here?” Bucky seethes, but you still can’t guess as to why he’s so bothered by it.
Unless…
“He didn’t see anything, alright? He had his back turned when I got out of the water.” You assure him.
“Oh, like that ass wouldn’t peek? You’re very naïve.” Bucky mutters.
“Excuse you?” You gasp, all attempts at bottling up your anger abandoned.
“He wants you!” Bucky insists, rising and turning to look at you, closing the distance with two steps to stand close but not too close. Just close enough that you’re both able to shout in each other’s faces. “Can’t you see that? The way he looks at you, he even asked me if you were taken. He was all happy when I told him you didn’t have anyone waiting for you back home.”
Your heart falls, a sudden realization hitting you as you think about all the sweet ways Ryan has indeed been flirting with you. If you were taken…
“So…so what you’re saying is that he asked you if I was taken and you told him I wasn’t, right?” You swallow hard, fighting the lump in your throat as you see that Bucky—as stupid as it is to think it in this way—hadn’t claimed you.
It goes in the face of what you’ve always believed, that women are not objects to be owned by men, and yet here on this island with two of them here alone with you for who knows how long—possibly forever—for Bucky not to stand and tell Ryan that you’re his…but you aren’t, are you?
Hurt and anger flow through you, making your hands tremble.
Bucky doesn’t answer. You shake your head, unable to accept that he doesn’t want you enough to tell Ryan that you’re off limits. That you’re his.
What has all this been over the past three months then? Have you been so stupid and so delusional that you saw things in his behavior that aren’t really there?
“I need space.” You tell him and without hesitation you turn and walk away, into the jungle to be as far away from this emotional blow as you can.
Only, you get two steps before metal is wrapped around your wrist, pulling you back towards him swiftly and easily as if you’re made of nothing more than feathers.
He pulls you against his chest, metal hand extended back behind him as he does. When you crash against him, he wraps it around your waist while his other hand reaches up behind your head to hold you in place as he dips and kisses you hard.
His arms are vices around you, pulling you tight as if he can’t feel you unless you’re right up against him.
After a few moments of contact, his lips soften, melding with yours gently and tenderly.
You’re breathless as you let him lead, relishing in the feel of his kiss as his lips part and the tip of his tongue coaxes your own open.
You gasp but meet him eagerly, letting your body fall against his. Slipping your arms underneath his, you feel the thick, hard planes of his back until you reach his shoulders and pull him towards you as the kiss consumes you both.
Your body is humming. You can feel every shift of his skin against yours like tingling fire. A burning touch that electrifies you as it shifts in meaning.
This is Bucky claiming you. This is his declaration.
He pulls back, a small smack to his lips as he breaks the kiss. Your eyes are hazy and fogged as you open them, searching his face with only half your mind working while the other still lingers on the intensity of his kiss.
You’re breathless too, and you forget so when you breath it’s a rush of air that makes you lightheaded and you cling to him harder so that you won’t fall.
Bucky smiles, adjusting his grip to hold you steady.
He brings his hand up to caress your temple and then your cheek, sliding a tickling thumb along the still tingling skin.
“Be my girl?” He says, voice deep but low and quiet so that only you can hear. It dives into your chest and warms it further, making your legs weak with not only their meaning but tone and the smooth velvet of its flow.
You swallow hard, looking for more breath where there doesn’t seem to be any. It all feels so unreal. Like your daydream as you’d watched him mix clay and chop wood and every muscle of his torso had rippled and flexed for you and you’d wished he would hold you, just like this and kiss you, just like now.
Somehow, you find strength and oxygen enough to speak. “I thought I already was.”
This confession makes his expression soften; it draws his brow down once again as he devours your face before leaning down to claim your lips once more.
You whimper, so please and so relieved that you haven’t been alone in this. You’ve wanted him and he also has been wanting you.
You break his kiss to gasp for air, “Never let me go.”
Bucky sighs, pulling you tighter—as if that’s even possible—against his chest. His hug is crushing and you know that he’s holding you as close as he can but you want it to be even closer.
“Never.” Bucky whispers, sounding emotional too.
You want to see his face, to see the expression that he’s wearing that makes that voice, but you can’t bear to pull away. Instead you bury your face against his neck as he does the same and both of you simply enjoy the embrace.
~~~~~~~~~~
This shift is dynamic.
The way you and Bucky respond to each other’s presence changes instantly and you couldn’t be happier.
As you walk back towards the beach with him, hand in hand, you can’t help the smile that splits your cheeks.
Each of you chances several glances at the other, smiling wider as you make your way.
“What?” Bucky chuckles, shaking his head as you stare.
“If I’d known that making you jealous was the way to get you to make a move…” You tell him.
Bucky shakes his head. “I think I’d have gone crazy if you’d done anything intentionally.”
You can almost picture Bucky’s rage if you’d done something on purpose, throwing yourself on Ryan just to get a rise out of him.
The idea of you wanting anyone’s touch other than Bucky’s is so preposterous that you really don’t know how Bucky could have believed for even one second that you and Ryan were possible.
“I’ve only wanted you, Buck.” You sigh, cuddling closer into his side as you rest your head against his metal bicep.
Bucky sighs deeply, relieved?
“I didn’t want to…assume,” He begins. “We were the only two here and you’re the only woman? Me the only man? I was so afraid that I’d make you feel uncomfortable if you didn’t feel the same way.”
“You could have asked.” You sigh. “But I guess I could have said something too. I could have told you it was okay.”
Bucky shakes his head. “I-I wasn’t nice to you at first. I don’t blame you for thinking I wasn’t feeling it. It’s my own fault.”
You pull him to a stop, tracing the shape of his forearm. “Bucky, none of this is your fault.”
This guilt he carries around with him about the plane, being marooned here, now his behavior when you first crashed?
“You didn’t know me. You saved me. We were strangers then. I don’t blame you for keeping me at a distance. Especially with everything that you’ve gone through and who you are? It’s natural for you to want to be cautious.” You understand his position.
Being the former Winter Soldier could not be easy to carry.
“But I should have been nicer.” He argues, reaches up to stroke your cheek again.
You lean into his touch, suddenly grateful that he can touch you like this away from the fuselage at bedtime.
Bedtime…holy shit. Your stomach erupts into flutters.
You quickly clear your throat and swallow to clear away the thoughts of how this will change bedtime too.
“I should have been more patient.” He continues.
With a smile, you shrug. “Maybe, but then you wouldn’t be you. I needed the kick in the butt. I’ve led a pretty sheltered life. I wasn’t prepared to survive out here. I’m glad you were stern.”
“Stern feels like an understatement. I was mean.” Bucky argues.
“Why are you so damn stubborn? I’m trying to give you a pass here, Barnes.” You gripe, suddenly annoyed again.
Bucky throws his head back and laughs, stroking your cheek with more affection at the sound of your irritation.
“Oh, man. You’re a firecracker.” He observes but doesn’t give you a chance to respond before he’s leaning in to kiss you again.
You push yourself towards him, eager to kiss him again because you can, and you’ve wanted it for so long. The fervor with which you pull him against you should be embarrassing but you’ve been so starved for his affection and now that you have it, you’re going to take advantage of it.
“I really like you.” He whispers as he pulls away.
Your heart is exploding with butterflies and your stomach flips pleasantly.
“I really like you, too, Bucky.” You smile. “So much.”
He gives you one more quick peck before leading you back towards the hut, hand in hand.
As you approach, you put a little more distance between the two of you but keep your hand wrapped around his. Both of you search the area for Ryan, Bucky probably eager for him to see that you two are now together but as you move towards the clay trough, you spot only the bottles of water that you’d asked him to fetch.
Bucky lets go and moves for them, thirsty.
“Well, at least he’s useful.” He says, taking a drink. “Where is he?”
“I don’t know.” You look around, wondering if he’d one back to the fuselage for something. “Maybe he forgot something back at camp?”
“Maybe.” Bucky says, eyeing the way to camp with narrowed eyes. “I don’t know if I trust that guy.”
“Oh, come on, Bucky. I’m already yours.” You tease and turn to fix him with a smile.
Bucky shakes his head, fighting his own but it only makes him give you a heart-stopping half-smile. Pretty pink lips curved on one side in a new expression that you make note of to demand it again someday.
“I’m serious.” He insists. “There’s something off about it. I don’t know what, but I feel like he’s hiding something.”
“Something about the plane?” You wonder, voice serious now as you consider that you’ve only known Ryan for such a short time.
“Yeah.” Bucky nods, moving towards the clay trough where he immediately dips his hands in to mix the sediment that’s settled at the bottom.
“But he’s so nice.” You counter, feeling sad by the thought that Ryan might be two-faced.
“Most bad guys are.” Bucky mutters sinisterly.
You open your mouth to argue when the sound of splashing turns you towards the shoreline.
Rising from the water is Ryan, shirtless, blonde curls plastered against the side of his face. He wipes the water away and freezes for a moment when he spots the two of you on the beach.
He suddenly smiles, moving towards his shirt and pulls it over his head as he approaches.
“Hi.” You offer, squinting against the morning sun. A quick glance at Bucky shows you he’s standing, hands and forearms covered in clay as he stands watching Ryan too.
“Hello.” Ryan replies, moving towards the two of you with relaxed and easy walk. “When did you two get back?”
“Just now.” You smile at him, forcing yourself to see the kind man instead of the suspicious pilot that showed up out of nowhere.
Bucky’s own worries now seeping into you.
“Went for a swim?” You wonder, looking over his shoulder in the direction he came from.
“It’s hot out here.” He explains.
“Did you find anything?” Bucky suddenly asks, his voice full of forced friendliness. “You went to the cabin, right? What were you looking for?”
Ryan freezes by the small fire pit you and he had dug up a few days earlier to cook food on the beach instead of having to run all the way back to camp.
“I did go there, yeah.” He nods. “I wanted to see if mah bag was still there. I had some personal items I was hopin’ had survived the crash.”
“Nothing too important I hope?” And you really do hope it’s nothing that means a whole lot.
Ryan meets your gaze and fixes you with a tight and forlorn grin. “Some pictures of mah son.”
“Your son?!” You gasp, completely shocked by his declaration. “You have a son?”
“Aye, I have a son.” Ryan sighs. “I’ll go get the fish, ya? I’ll cook breakfast. You take a rest.”
“Now he has a son?” Bucky wonders once Ryan is a safe distance away and you honestly can’t blame him for the suspicion you can hear in his voice.
You really don’t know Ryan at all and now have to wonder how much more he might be hiding.

Do you have any good tips/recipes for eating a healthy and balanced diet? I’m trying to lose fat but giving up pasta is proving difficult. I loved the ‘Olivie Blake in the kitchen’ episode of your vlog!
aw thanks anon! answered in this video and here are some other recipe ideas you’ll find me eating frequently:
farro bowls: I don’t necessarily stick to all these steps (I hate radishes and I sometimes substitute sautéed broccoli or kale for zucchini) but I really like farro and jammy eggs are a game-changer. also I LOVE the dressing in this
arroz caldo: I know it’s hot out right now, but this filipino chicken porridge is very simple and easy to alter to your tastes. I use chicken thighs (skin on, bone in) and toss in a pot with onions, garlic, and enough chicken broth and water (about 2 parts chicken broth, one part water) to cover all the ingredients, plus salt and pepper. boil for about 40 minutes uncovered. remove the chicken and set aside; add 2 cups rice and bring back to a boil for about 20 more minutes, stirring often. (I typically soak the rice while the chicken is cooking.) when the chicken has cooled, tear it into pieces and add it back in. I also like to add spinach or kale, salt to taste. the rice should be gummy, like, overcooked, and add broth or water if it looks like it’s soaking up too much broth (depends if you prefer it brothy, like soup, or a little thicker.) top each bowl with lime juice and fish sauce to taste. typically this is cooked with ginger but I hate ginger. if you want a more authentic recipe, search one online! there’s lots
pasta w/vegan cream sauce: I don’t love this exact recipe, but if you miss the homey feeling of cheesy pastas, you might want to experiment with “cream” sauces that are made with pasta water and beans/chickpeas. like I said in the video, feel free to try whole wheat pasta or black bean pasta to add other nutrients
brothy pasta with chickpeas: ditto this recipe. the chickpeas make it filling, but you might want to experiment with ways to enhance the flavor. I don’t love rosemary so I used basil instead, and I added a bit of calabrian chili for flavor. I think I might also like it more if I sautéed some crimini mushrooms along with the onion, but I haven’t tried that yet.
kale pesto with whole wheat pasta: this is very one-note, so although it’s good, I recommend adding something... cherry tomatoes, maybe, for some pop? or serve with a protein, like a simple chicken katsu
mr blake’s peanut butter thing: I know this won’t sound good, but trust me, it is. dice up sweet potatoes, chicken breast, and apples. sauté the chicken until just brown, then add the sweet potato and sauté those, then ditto the broccoli until very green and tender, and then add the apples at the very end, just for a minute or so. serve, then melt peanut butter and drizzle over the mixture. I promise, super good, very easy
spicy pork bowls: bon appetit has a better bulgogi recipe with more ingredients, but this keeps things simple. I don’t love the carrot and kale mix—personally I prefer to use broccolini
summer greens + potato salad: this is dense and delicious (I use baby spinach when I don’t have other greens) and the eggs give you some added protein
fyi, for my morning meal I keep things very simple: multigrain toast + 2 eggs, one bowl of plain oatmeal with agave syrup to sweeten + 1 egg, smoothie with frozen fruit + protein powder + spinach leaves, that sort of thing. I mostly spend my time making dinners to ease my cravings, hence the recipes above

Unasked for Aloha Bar Review! 😃 One of my new favorite bar brands.  I like them cuz they only have 3g-5g of sugar each bar without ANY sugar alcohols, stevia, or monk fruit... they’re just not as sweet as other bars which I like.  They all have about a 1:1:1 ratio of fat:net carbs:protein. Organic, vegan, gluten-free, and soy free if you’re into that.  Their protein blend is brown rice/pumpkin seed which is a nice compliment to all the pea protein I eat.  Been eating one a day for the last week or two. Top Tier: “Really good, would recommend” Coconut Chocolate Almond - Good coconut/chocolate mix.  Taste very indulgent.  Does have coconut shreds which I’m usually not into but it works here.  Low melting point so don’t keep it in your pocket. Chocolate Fudge Brownie -  Super chocolatey.  Dense with a crisp outer coating.  Really good cold/frozen, taste like the outside of a chocolate dipped ice cream that way.  So much bar!  I mean all the bars are big but it feels wrong eating this much chocolate to me even though I know it’s nutritionally sound. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough -  Chewier than the other bars on purpose I’m thinkin’.  Not as overpoweringly chocolate as the Fudge Brownie one which I like.  I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do and I keep going back to it.  Sleeper hit. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip -  Peanut Butter anything is usually my favorite but this one doesn’t have a strong PB flavor... but still good.  Has many small chocolate chips throughout as well as peanut pieces.  Soft and chewy as opposed to dense and peanut buttery.  I think if they upped they PB flavor Id like this more but still a good bar. Mid Tier: “I’d eat it if offered but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it”
Caramel Sea Salt -  It’s alright.  It has a caramel smell to it but w/o being overly sweet like most caramel flavored things are which I greatly appreciate.  The ending flavor become slightly savory/nutty which is nice.  I would have appreciated actual flake salt on top but maybe that’s too much to ask. There is also a weird stale-like flavor throughout which I don’t like... but maybe I just got a bad/old bar?
Vanilla Almond Crunch -  I love me some vanilla but this... is not its best application.  It’s ok... maybe a little dry and bland.  It’s fine but don’t expect to be impressed.  Idk where the crunch is supposed to be from...the bits of almond that all the bars have in them?  I think if they had little clusters of caramelized almonds like the Cliff Maple Nut has then maybe the Almond Crunch in the name would be more appropriate.  It does have the little rice puffs in them I guess but they do not stand out against the rest of the bar. Garbage Tier:  “Hard pass” Chocolate Mint -  ...eat a Halls and one small chocolate chip at the same time and you’ll have the same experience. 🤢  Mind you I don’t like the Chocolate/mint mix.  I have come across a few “OK” ones... this one is not one of those.  The only bar that I couldn’t/wouldn’t finish and will never buy again.

We hear the word a lot, it’s what separates males from females and men from boys. So what exactly is it? It is the principle male sex hormone and acts as an anabolic steroid. Having lower testosterone can have horrendous effects on men: decreased muscle mass, weight gain, reduced energy levels, and lower libido.
In a study conducted by VA Puget Sound Health Care Systems and the University of Washington, Seattle, found that “about 19 percent  had low testosterone levels; 28 percent  had varying low and normal levels”. In addition, testosterone levels decrease 1.5% every year after age 30. Which means you become less of a man every year past age 30. It was also found that “men with low testosterone levels had an 88 percent increase in risk of death compared with those who had normal levels”.
So with all this negativity, is there any hope for man? Yes.
There are plenty of ‘natural’ ways to increase your testosterone levels.
1. Vitamin D3. This vitamin has been linked to increasing testosterone in men and increasing sex drive. (Source)
2. Eat your steak and whole eggs. Testosterone is derived from cholesterol. Sure egg whites and grilled chicken might be a great way to get your protein in, but cutting the red meat and yolks won’t help raise your testosterone. Eggs are very nutrient dense, eat the yolks and reap the benefits. Same goes along with red beef, enjoy your steak. (Source)
3. Workout. Pushing and pulling heavy weights in a compound movement (squats, deadlifts, benching, clean and press, etc.) cause a hormonal change in the body, producing more testosterone (with proper diet of course). (Source)
4. Avoid sugar. It will increase your insulin levels. Not only is that linked to weight gain, but also a reduction in testosterone levels. (Source)
5. Eat your fats. Don’t leave out olive oil, peanut oils, avocados, egg yolks, nuts, and red meat (grass fed). (Source)
Just following these few points can have a dramatic effect on increasing your testosterone levels; your sex drive will rocket, your hard work from the gym will start to show, and women will be so turned on by your pheromones. Moral of the story: don’t underestimate the most important hormone in your body, it’s THAT important.

It is no surprise that the current world agenda seeks to destroy men from within but also from the outside at the same time. Only by attacking from all angles can their plans come to fruition. We do not know exactly when this attack started, but in recent years, it has become clear that the intensity of the current agenda’s intentions has increased tenfold.
Why are men targeted? Could it be the fact that by reducing the amount of true men with testes they reduce the chances that authentic revolutions against oppressive governments will happen? Any voice of reason against a corrupt society would swiftly be silenced. It happened 2,000 years ago (Jesus), and it is happening now more aggressively than it has ever happened in history.
Let’s see how men are being targeted for total destruction and implicitly and how to avoid these attacks…
1. Our Food Is Filled With Hormones, Antibiotics And Pesticides
Hormones are abundantly in beef, chicken or dairy products. We eat these daily, however, the hormones have an impact on a man’s health. Testosterone levels are lowered and estrogen levels increase. Manboobs, anyone?
Pesticides are well known chemicals that cause infertility and lower testosterone levels. Yet non-organic vegetables and fruits are abundant in life threatening toxins.
2. Cycling And Jogging
Doing physical activities is so beneficial that writing down all the benefits here would take forever. Yet there are a few physical activities which are unhealthy for the human body. Those kind of activities which have never been done by our ancestors.
For obvious reasons, cycling is unnatural because it uses an invented device. Constant pressure on the testes leads to infertility, reduces testosterone production and diseases.
Like cycling, jogging is an unnatural activity. Our ancestors would either walk or sprint, never jog. It is a useless activity. Jogging and cycling are activities which put continuous and constant stress on the body, leading to an overall decrease in testosterone over time. Do you think it is a coincidence that so much emphasis is being put on activities such as jogging and cycling?
3. Blue Light Bulbs
Blue light exposure has been linked to decreased testosterone levels. It is everywhere. Naturally occurring only in the morning when it helps the body wake up, nowadays we see it right until we close our eyes and go to bed. It is in our phone and computer screens, but most importantly, it is used to illuminate our rooms, bedside lamps and our offices.
Due to “environmental” reasons, it was decided that the classic incandescent bulb uses up too much energy, therefore it is better to use the new LED bulbs with carcinogenic gases.
You can’t run and you can’t hide. These blue-light bulbs are everywhere, creating anxiety and making us feel constantly tired. A tired mind is easy to control, and so is a low testosterone individual.
4. Our Drinking Water Is Filled With Female Hormones
Let me explain. The tap water that you drink also contains treated and cleaned water from our toilets, no mystery here. What we don’t know is that the hormones from a female’s period are flushed down with this same water. Chlorine does not remove hormones, it removes bacteria.
Drinking bottled water could be a solution, but then again, the plastic is also carcinogenic and also lowers our testosterone. Unless we have our own spring, we are fucked.
5. Sugar
Sugar reduces our metabolism to that of a sloth and promotes cancer. It also dramatically lowers our will to do anything meaningful with our lives. It takes down our testosterone due to our bodies prioritizing insulin production. It is addictive, more so than heroin, as proven on lab rats.
6. Aspartame
In an effort to soothe the minds of people concerned with sugar, they have created an even worst product called aspartame. Aspartame produces neurotoxins that excite our nerve cells so much that they die. However, our brain protects itself with a barrier from excess neurotoxins. If the barrier is passed, neurons are killed. The pituitary and pineal glands are also affected, leading to a disruption in our circadian natural rhythm.
Aspartame lowers testosterone and avid consumers would require a prolonged time for their testosterone to recover.
7. Veganism
Veganism is another new fad that keeps people excited about healthy lifestyles. What they don’t know is that this diet is aimed at reducing our aggressiveness and making us docile animals like say… sheep.
Go ahead and tame a lion. Obviously, veganism lowers testosterone and the lack of vitamins and nutrients, which I will explain in future articles, further leads to a pale and unforgiving future for our bodies and brains.
8. Soy
Soy has been part of the hype train of miraculous natural super foods for some decades now. Soy is an estrogenic food and guess what? It lowers your testosterone.
It should be simple by now: anything that is being promoted by the mainstream media should be considered false and damaging to our well-being.
9. The War On Fats
This is another worldwide mass deception promoted by the mainstream doctors and media. Fat is actually healthy and it helps reduce cholesterol due to the fact that if the body receives external cholesterol, then it does not need to produce it on its own, which would lead to the bad cholesterol in our blood.
Testosterone feeds on cholesterol. The higher amount of testosterone you will have, the lower your cholesterol will be. And the more external cholesterol you bring in, the more the testosterone can thrive and increase.
Eating fat meat will increase your health and improve  your metabolism (unless you have some condition, in which case you should seek a doctor’s advice).
10. Coffee
Yes exactly, coffee. Caffeine is poison used by plants to protect themselves. Guess what happens when you ingest coffee every day?
Coffee depletes the adrenal glands responsible for regulating our hormones. Combined this with stress and we are sure to fall into an adrenal exhaustion. Testosterone is also one of those hormones, and when the adrenal glands become depleted, there is no way to produce any free or total testosterone within your body.
It takes three weeks to get rid of caffeine. Do you know why caffeine produces bowel movements? Because the body wants to get rid of the poison.
Conclusion
In case you are wondering what would be the best course of action to avoid exposure to factors that are detrimental to our health, the solution is as always simple: life should be lived the way it was meant to, in accordance with nature.

Selkirk Rex Cats
The Selkirk Rex cat is a big, fluffy dwelling teddy-bear with a loving and sweet persona, great as a lapcat and a champion cuddler.

The kitten, named “Miss DePesto” after a curly-haired character on the television current “Moonlighting”, which starred Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd, was despatched off to a Persian cat breeder who crossed her with every Persian cats and American Shorthair cats.
Shortly, the extraordinarily cool Selkirk Rex was born. These are excellent, even-tempered and tractable cats that do properly in a variety of circumstances and are sensational to behold.

Newman, a Persian breeder for a couple of years, had on a regular basis been fascinated by cat genetics and requested household and mates to be searching for any cat that was ‘out of the bizarre’. In 1987 a lady who had bought one amongst Newman’s Persians noticed an unusual, curly kitten on the animal shelter the place she labored and took the kitten to Newman.
Newman named the kitten Miss DePesto for her tendency to pester Newman for consideration. Entranced by Miss DePesto’s character and curly coat, Newman bred her to a Persian male. This mating subsequently produced a litter of six, three of whom had the distinctive curls.
Newman went on to combine the qualities of the British Shorthair, American Shorthair, and Distinctive Shorthair into the Selkirk bloodline and to point and promote the breed throughout the associations. At first progress was sluggish, nonetheless with the help of Newman’s small clan of breeders the Selkirk gained recognition.
The breed was launched to TICA’s board of directors in 1990 and was accepted into the New Breed and Coloration class. The CFA accepted the breed for registration inside the Miscellaneous class in February of 1992. The breed now has Championship standing with ACA, TICA, and UFO.
Measurement: These cats weigh 10 to 15 kilos.
Life Span: 10 to 15 years
SELKIRK REX PERSONALITY
The centuries of domestication and refinement as an actual companion and “house cat” are evident, and this lovely breed excels as a super modern-day pet.
They make a high-quality different for busy singles and/or residence dwellers as they’ve an inclination to sample in direction of the couch-potato side of life.
Interacting with a Selkirk might be a really relaxed and cozy experience, as they’ve just a little little bit of the clown in them as properly, and could also be pretty endearing and amusing.
The Selkirk Rex is acknowledged by the Cat Fanciers Affiliation (CFA), the world’s largest cat group. It is a comparatively unusual pure-bred or “pedigreed” house cat breed.
Although there is a notion that the Rex (curly haired) breeds have a lot much less of the glyco-protein of their saliva and glands that is the true set off of allergic reactions, this does not appear to be the case with the Selkirk.
The Selkirk is a dominant mutation, by way of which all hairs inside the outer and undercoats have a wave or tender curl, giving the cat an unimaginable look. The coat has a singular, light texture and is on the market in any coloration or pattern along with pointed and parti-colors.
The coat is plush like a teddy-bear with a thick undercoat. Shedding is heavy and customary grooming is required.
Some cats have a greasy prime quality to the fur which requires occasional bathing to keep up the pores and pores and skin healthful.
These are cumbersome, large-sized cats which have few breed-related nicely being factors.
Because of it is laid-back and affectionate and wishes interaction, the Selkirk Rex is an impressive family cat that does properly with considerate children, canines, and completely different cats.
A good choice for singles or rental dwellers, nevertheless don’t forget that widespread grooming, and possibly bathing, is required.
The Selkirk Rex Cat Nicely being
Every pedigreed cats and mixed-breed cats have numerous incidences of nicely being points which can be genetic in nature. Selkirk Rex are usually healthful, nevertheless it is best to positively ask a breeder regarding the incidence of any effectively being points in her traces and what testing has been completed for these which might be genetic in nature.
The Selkirk Rex Cat Care
The Selkirk Rex has a dense coat that should be combed a couple of cases per week to forestall or take away tangles. Is Your Green Smoothie Even Healthy?

Posted by Justyce Allison – How to make a healthy/super healthy/boosty smoothie
Wake, smoothie, move, repeat. Wake, smoothie, move, repeat.
Green juices or smoothies have become part of everyday vernacular, almost as ubiquitous as a daily caffeine hit, among the health conscious anyway. But despite nutritious smoothies being a buzzword for years now (green smoothie is one of the biggest “trending” words in 2015), its widespread fame hasn’t changed the fact it’s rare for daily greens to be well executed.
And, here’s the clincher, because of this, it actually has little or none of the desired effects on your health and energy.
GREEN BENEFITS
It’s touted as your daily equaliser, an input of nutrient dense and enzyme-rich liquid that can help make you feel great and perhaps help you look it too. It has the potential to deliver easily accessible nutrition to your system and can help you detoxify. If your health is in “credit”, then a green smoothie/juice can further create a bit of a buffer to nutritional and life stresses.
While the idea of grabbing a pre-mixed or pre-powdered greens together with a new, trendy milk or “mylk”, appears to be an efficient way of throwing in the good stuff while getting optimum benefits, the truth is it probably isn’t. There are improvements to be made, and lots of them.
GREEN SMOOTHIE MISTAKES
1. Using pre-mixed, pre-powdered greens and berries
There are an abundance of these fruits and vegetables in their fresh and whole form, with all their intact enzymes and catalysts at your local growers market. A minimal amount of dead, dried, pesticide and chemical farmed green powder is not of any benefit to anyone. Always go fresh when you can.
2. Using low-grade protein powder
Putting awesome fresh produce in your shake and then degrading it by adding a low-grade protein source is not the best way to go.
You’re potentially adding a whole bunch of hidden fillers, inflammatory agents or chemicals to what is supposed to be our remedy against these things! Look out for ingredients like colourings, preservatives and a list of inactive ingredients longer than the active ingredients.
3. Check your superfood blend
Adding superfood blends that only contain micro-doses of the superfoods that you were after is commonplace. Have you considered how much you are going to actually need of that exotic sounding “superfood”?
Some brands contain only contain one tenth or one hundredth of the star ingredient they are promoting, which will do little for your health, even though they are listed on the label and are a selling point for the product.
4. What’s your pre-made blend made of?
Using pre-made blends that have added ingredients for texture, consistency and shelf life need to be scrutinised closely.
Ingredients to avoid are inactive ingredients – they’re inactive because they haven’t been added for use in the nutritional content of the product, but are still put in the product, which means your body still has to process and deal with it.
While some natural sweeteners are OK, again without sourcing them yourself you have little control over their quality. Other sweeteners are flat out terrible for your system – high fructose corn syrup and maltodextrin are the big ones to look out for so avoid these at all costs.
GREEN SMOOTHIES COME GOOD
The main point is, we need to start questioning all ingredients. It doesn’t help anyone if the “healthy” ingredients are produced in an unhealthy way, with unhealthy fillers. The benefits and assurance of using some home ingredients like a quality honey, or some well sourced stevia are more beneficial and harmonious to your body.
The other thing to look out for is food derived from a wholefood.
Most of the beneficial elements, such as vitamins and minerals, found in wholefoods are only used by the body when consumed with the rest of the wholefood. A wholefood contains the needed catalysts and enzymes to help you break down and make use of the nutrients you need to get out of those healthy foods. Nature has already got a great system set up for us and unfortunately separating and prepackaging parts of the wholefood, or synthetically trying to recreate elements of it doesn’t necessarily work.
Yes, it’s a smoothie ingredient minefield out there!
HOW TO MAKE THE BEST GREEN SMOOTHIE POSSIBLE
1. Buy fresh, quality produce
Preferably from local markets or growers. This way you know (because you can ask) where your fruit and veg has been, how long it has (or hasn’t) been in storage and what sort of conditions it has been grown in. Go chemical-free, organic, and sustainably grown produce. Buy lots of it and buy variety.
We recommend a variety of colours and particular qualities (for example, avocado for fat, banana for potassium, etc). Mix it up, too; the number of documented benefits to a wide variety of fruit and veg is only made to look dull by the potentials, uses and benefits we haven’t discovered yet.
2. Pick a suspension fluid
All of the produce will be blended into oblivion so you’ll need something liquid to carry them for texture and enjoyment’s sake (even if you are about your hardcore health there’s nothing wrong with having a health dense and tasty smoothie). Try home-made nut milks, hemp milk or coconut water.
3. Pick the right protein
If you are going to add a protein source, or a powder, do your research. Know your products. Do they use proprietary blends? Then guess what – it’s impossible to know what the hidden ingredients are. Are they transparent with the sourcing of their ingredients? If not, why not? Are they traceable sources? There are companies out there making the effort to nail these crucial factors in the products they deliver. It’s worth finding them and using them.
4. Get yourself an easy to clean, simple blender
You will make the money back on the cash you don’t spend on pre-packed, potentially low quality juices, and you will hit more variety and therefore more nutrition!
Red Hippo, run by Nick Dawe and Mitch and Ryan Barraclough, is an Australian company that provides synergistic protein blends, supported by science, and road tested by Olympians.

Keto Food Pyramid

Keto Food Pyramid: High Fat, Low Carb Food List [What to Eat, Drink & Avoid]
Do you remember that food pyramid a lot of us were taught in elementary school? Not only has the government done away with the traditional food pyramid, but there is now a healthier alternative: the Keto Food Pyramid.
If you’re on a high-fat, low-carb meal plan like the ketogenic diet (AKA keto), this keto food pyramid is a must. It’s easy to understand, and it’s vital to keeping true to your low carb lifestyle.
Stick to this pyramid as you create your weekly keto grocery list, and your body will thank you.
Our Keto Diet Food Pyramid
This keto food pyramid is designed to get your body into a state of ketosis (and stay there).
Ketosis occurs when your body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates (sugar) to produce energy, so it instead turns to fat burning for energy. These fat cells are used to create ketones, which many scientists agree are more efficient energy sources than carbs.
What are the food groups on the keto food pyramid?
When adhering to a keto diet, there are low-carb food choices you should gravitate towards:
# Healthy fats
# Fatty proteins
# Non-starchy vegetables
# Certain cheeses, nuts, and seeds
# A little bit of fruit
However, this keto diet food pyramid also clarifies foods to avoid:
# Sugar
# Bread
# Pasta
# Vegetable oils
Healthy Fats and Oils
Most important to the keto food pyramid are healthy fats and oils. Around half of your calories should consist of these high-quality fats.
What are healthy fats? Well, the word “fat” can be a scary word. But that’s just because of the hard work of the sugar industry from the past seventy years. Fats are necessary to your body’s proper function. Low-fat diets are less efficient for weight loss, compared to low carb diets. Plus, a ketogenic diet supports heart health significantly better than low-fat options.
Also, look for fats that derive from animals, like butter and tallow. These incredibly nutrient-dense foods get a bad rep from misleading “science” about the dangers of saturated fats, but they’re great for feeling full and getting plenty of important nutrients in addition to good macro balance.
Plus, animal fats are the richest sources of heart-healthy vitamin K2, which many people are deficient in.
These are some of the best fat sources, when you’re on a keto diet:
# Ghee
# Grass-fed butter
# Tallow
# Lard
# Bone marrow or bone broth
# Extra virgin olive oil
# Cod liver oil
# Coconut oil
# Avocado oil
# Sesame oil
# MCT oil
You may notice several keto-friendly oils on this list. Whether you cook in these oils or use them as an ingredient, the above oils are your best friends.
Steer clear of vegetable oils. Despite their healthy-sounding name, vegetable oils have been linked with inflammation. This affects everything from your immune system to your heart health.
Fatty Proteins
Fatty proteins are important to the keto food pyramid and the body’s nutritional needs. Proteins are macronutrients, the building blocks of our bones, muscles, skin, and blood.
But there’s this common misconception — probably the most common among new keto dieters. Many try to get their bodies into a state of ketosis with the same amount of protein as fat — fifty-fifty. Unfortunately, it’s pretty hard to get into ketosis with that ratio. Keto is very importantly a moderate-protein, not a high-protein, diet.
How much protein should you eat in a meal while on keto? Aim for 25 percent protein with 75 percent fat. A typical keto meal includes about four or five ounces of protein.
Fatty fish, seafood, fattier chicken cuts, and eggs have moderate protein content while balancing with plenty of fat:
# Salmon
# Catfish
# Cod
# Shellfish
# Oysters and clams
# Eggs
# Chicken (thighs, wings, or legs)
Fish are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which come with their own health benefits, like improved heart and mental health.
There are also fatty cuts of red meat that you should regularly add to your meals:
# Veal
# Steak
# Lamb
# Pork
# Salami and pepperoni
Just like with your healthy fats, it’s important to know where your proteins are sourced from. Grass-fed beef and wild caught fish are two examples of quality sourced meats. On the other hand, salami and pepperoni are technically keto-friendly but carry some risks as ultra-processed foods.
Although you can tweak your macros to include lean meats, like chicken and turkey, without dropping out of ketosis, we’ve found that avoiding these is usually simpler. Super lean meats with high protein levels but no fat are more difficult to work into a normal keto diet meal plan. If you eat keto, swap breasts out with thighs, wings, or legs.
Non-Starchy Vegetables
Vegetables are rich in nutrients. They are important to every person’s overall health. We definitely want to keep non-starchy vegetables on our plate when we’re on the keto diet when we can, although different peoples’ need for vegetables may be higher or lower than the next person.
But many vegetables are not low-carb vegetables. Starchy veggies like potatoes, corn, and carrots are relatively high in carbohydrates. We instead look to the low-carb vegetables.
You may have heard avocados touted as a “superfood” in the past. Well, this is where the avocado’s magic powers are strongest.
Avocado is a tasty vegetable (sometimes considered a fruit) that is very low on carbs — mainly because it’s so high in fiber, and you have to subtract fiber from carbs to get your “net carbs”. Avocados also come with a host of unique benefits: healthy heart, healthy brain, and preventing diabetes.
What are the best vegetables to eat when on keto?
# Avocados (a staple of most keto diets!)
# Leafy greens, like spinach and kale
# Bell peppers
# Tomatoes
# Cauliflower
# Broccoli
# Asparagus
# Zucchini
# Eggplant
# Garlic
# Cayenne
# Celery
Don’t rely too heavily on vegetables. But a small portion of non-starchy veggies at every meal is ideal for low carb diets like keto.
Cheeses, Nuts, and Seeds
Another group of foods to have a little bit of every day is cheeses, nuts, and seeds. An odd pairing, yes, but these three foods have two things in common:
1. Cheeses, nuts, and seeds can all serve as keto-friendly snacks throughout the day.
2. Cheeses, nuts, and seeds should not be eaten in high quantities, but small amounts here and there are perfectly acceptable.
Unlike milk, cheese is low-carb and high in fat. Unprocessed cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella, cream, goat, and bleu are often best for digestion.
When looking for keto-friendly dairy products, make sure it’s full-fat dairy with close to zero carbs. Beyond cheeses, think about adding full-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt to your keto diet.
Should you go nuts for nuts? Yes!
Can I plant a seed in your mind about seeds? “Pro-seed,” I imagine you are saying. (See what we did there?)
Like most snacks, make sure you consume small portions. One or two ounces of these nuts and seeds should act as a great snack:
# Pecans
# Macadamia nuts
# Walnuts
# Hazelnuts
# Almonds
# Pistachios
# Cashews
# Peanuts
# Pili nuts (some of our favorites — these are 0-carb and super high in fat!)
# Brazil nuts
# Flaxseeds
# Chia seeds
# Hemp seeds
# Sunflower seeds
# Sesame seeds
Keto Friendly Fruits
You may think fruits have too much sugar to be keto friendly. Yes, fruits have natural sugars and can be slightly addictive. However, a few lower-carb fruits shouldn’t push you over your daily carb limit. And their health benefits are too good to pass up.
Here are some other fruits that have less than 10 grams of net carbs in a one-cup serving:
# Lemons
# Limes
# Blackberries
# Raspberries
# Strawberries
# Coconuts
Fruits are the smallest part of the keto food pyramid. If you’re not careful, fruits can kick you out of ketosis. Eating fruits can spike your blood sugar, and they don’t make you feel full for very long.
Fruits are filled with micronutrients. Nature has crafted fruits into something that we really want to eat. But make sure you keep fruits to a minimum when you’re on a low carb diet.
What to Drink on Keto
You need to stay hydrated! But with all these restrictions, what can you drink while on keto?
Water. Every day. Water is your new best friend. Find a good deal on a reusable BPA-free water bottle and keep it filled each day.
Although water is the absolute best liquid for anyone to drink — whether on keto or not — there are some other low carb drinks you can look for (some of which are great fat sources):
# Bulletproof (butter) coffee
# Sparkling water
# Tea
# Coffee
# Dry wines
# Hard liquors (in moderation)
# Bone broth
# Non-dairy milk alternatives
Obviously, all of these drinks must be unsweetened to qualify as low carb.
The best teas to drink are turmeric tea and green tea. Green tea is a potent antioxidant that may promote heart health. Black tea is also great for keeping macros in check and boosting your caffeine intake for the day (it’s what is served at most restaurants).
A popular variation on coffee among keto dieters is something called bulletproof coffee. Simply put, this means you add ghee (or butter) to your coffee, often paired with MCT oil.
When looking for non-dairy milk alternatives, check the net carbs. For instance, sweetened and unsweetened almond milk are right next to each other on the shelf, and only one of them is good for a low-carb diet plan.
High Carb and Other Foods to Avoid
Now that you have the keto food pyramid at your fingertip, its helpful to look at a list of “don’ts” when it comes to the keto diet.
Obviously, we’re avoiding carbs here. So here are some food choices that are high in sugars or carbohydrates in general:
# Bread
# Pasta
# Added sugar (refined or raw)
# Honey
# Pizza
# Fries
# Beans
# Rice
# Condiments high in sugar
# Higher carb fruits, such as apples or bananas
# Starchy vegetables like corn, potatoes, and carrots
# Hot dogs, hoagies, and hamburgers (because of the buns)
As far as drinks are concerned, do not drink sugary beverages, including sodas and sugary alcoholic drinks. Also avoid fruit juices and milk because of their sugar content.
Technically speaking, diet sodas are low carb. However, avoid them like the plague. Actually, the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas can have a few downsides in common with the plague.
In Summary
# The keto food pyramid offers an easy-to-understand visual of what to eat and what to avoid when you’re trying to maintain a state of ketosis.
# Focus on healthy fats, proteins, non-starchy vegetables, cheeses, nuts, and seeds.
# Avoid sugary foods and drinks, bread, pasta, milk, and fried foods.

Tyrus camping prompt! (Aka I slept outside recently and now I’m full hippie mode, obsessed with nature) TJ is a plant-freak and when they go hiking, he’s quick to name every plant he sees. He ends up having to give Cyrus a piggy-back ride halfway through the hike bc he’s exhausted. They go kayaking and swim in the river, then cuddle together in the tent at night. Also a part where Cyrus wakes up to find TJ making him breakfast over the campfire. (This is super fluffy, my angst days are over)
I don’t know anything about camping (especially in America) so I apologise for any inaccuracies… Even so, I really enjoyed writing this, so I hope you like it!
All feedback is very much appreciated ♥
~~~~~
As they made their way through the densely-packed forest, with the lush, summer grass brushing their ankles and the distant sunlight casting dappled shadows across the path ahead, Cyrus found himself wondering – not for the first time – why he’d agreed to come on this trip in the first place. With every rustle, crunch, and muffled squawk, his fear spread like a flood throughout his entire body, until it settled as a suffocating lump in the back of his throat. He screwed his eyes shut, breathed deeply through his nose, and struggled to remain at least slightly calm.
Somewhere behind them, a twig snapped, and the last of his composure burst out of him in the form of a strangled scream. He spun around, cold sweat springing to the surface of his neck, and stumbled backwards into TJ’s arms.
“What was that?” he cried, reaching blindly for his friend’s hand. When he felt the solid warmth of TJ’s palm pressed against his own, he relaxed a little. “I-I thought I heard something.”
TJ chuckled. “We’re in the forest, Underdog. You’re probably gonna hear a lot of things.”
“Do you think we’re being followed?”
“By a squirrel, maybe.”
“I’m being serious, Teej! I feel like we’re being watched…”
At the trembling note of fear in his voice, TJ turned him around and gently cupped his face in his hands, a reassuring smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“The forest is full of life,” he told him. “There are eyes everywhere. But it’s nothing to be afraid of, okay?”
Cyrus gulped. “A-Are you sure?”
“Look.” TJ took his hand and guided them both to the ground, crouching beside a patch of buttery-yellow flowers spotted amongst the leaves. “These are celandine poppies,” he said, touching Cyrus’ fingertips to the small, delicate petals. “They’re pretty, huh? Not scary at all.”
Cyrus tilted his head to the side, stubbornly searching for something intimidating about the yellow-studded foliage, but there was nothing. TJ was right.
“I guess they’re not scary,” he mumbled. “But I still heard something behind us!”
“You probably did,” TJ conceded with a shrug. “There’s a lot of animals around here, Cy. The forest is full of life, like I said.” He nodded at the poppies and softened his smile. “Just think of them like the flowers, okay? They’re not gonna hurt you.”
Cyrus scoffed. “Oh, yeah… Because bears are a lot like flowers.”
“We’re not gonna see any bears.”
“How do you know?”
“The only bears around here are black bears, and they’re just as scared of us as we are of them.” TJ knocked their shoulders together and offered him another placating smile. “The worst they might do is steal our food while we’re sleeping.”
“Not the food!” Cyrus gasped, a sickening churn of hunger making his stomach rumble.
TJ rolled his eyes fondly and reached into his rucksack, pulling out a couple of protein bars and handing them to Cyrus. “These should hold you over until we set up camp.”
“Which is when, by the way?”
“You can’t be tired already.”
“All this worrying is making me exhausted!” Cyrus whined. He accepted TJ’s outstretched hand and allowed himself to be pulled back to his feet, immediately swaying forward and slumping against TJ’s shoulder. With his cheek cushioned against the softness of TJ’s plaid jacket, he sighed. “Can’t we stop for a bit? My feet hurt…”
“It’s gonna be dark in a few hours,” TJ said, but Cyrus could hear the edge of reluctance in his voice.
“Just a few minutes,” he slurred. “I promise I won’t fall asleep.”
TJ snorted. “You’re drooling.”
“No, I’m not.”
“C’mon, Cy…”
“Please?”
After a moment of silent contemplation, TJ seemed to reach a decision. He tucked an arm under Cyrus’ legs and hauled him into the air, draping Cyrus’ sleep-laden arms over his shoulders and gripping the backs of his ankles for support. It was awkward, what with the bulky rucksack taking up most of the space on his back, but he somehow managed it.
“What are you doing?” Cyrus asked, his fatigue pushed aside by shock for a brief moment. “You can’t carry me the rest of the way! You’ll hurt yourself.”
TJ flicked him an amused glance over his shoulder. “I think you overestimate how heavy you are.”
“I can’t tell if that’s a compliment or not…”
“I’ll be fine. Just… hold on.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“But –”
“The longer you keep arguing, the longer I’ll have to carry you.”
Cyrus snapped his mouth shut, the weariness slowly creeping back into his muscles as he melted against TJ’s back. When they started moving again, the rhythmic sound of TJ’s footsteps began lulling him to sleep, his eyelids drooping with the combined weight of exhaustion and contentment. He curled his fingers in the front of TJ’s shirt, now sticking to his chest with a thin sheen of sweat, and rested his head against TJ’s shoulder.
On the cusp of sleep, his lips twitched drowsily with a smile, the reason he agreed to come on this trip with TJ suddenly seeming so obvious.
~~~~~
When he finally stirred a few hours later, the warmth of TJ’s back was gone, replaced instead by the cool confinements of his sleeping bag. The dying sunlight filtering through the plastic roof of the tent coloured his surroundings with a blue tinge, and the sweltering heat had subsided somewhat, the door to the tent now flapping in a welcoming breeze.
Cyrus wiped his bleary eyes with the back of his arm as he stumbled out of the tent, almost stepping on the protein bars lying next to his sleeping bag in the process. Outside, two rocks had been angled around a nest of tinder – ready for a fire – in the middle of the clearing, and TJ’s rucksack was propped up against a nearby tree. At the sight of his belongings, Cyrus was overcome with a pang of affection for his friend, which quickly shifted into concern when he realised he was completely alone.
“TJ?” he called into the clearing, his eyes frantically scanning the edge of the trees surrounding their campsite. “TJ! If you’ve been eaten by a bear, I won’t be pleased!”
A familiar laugh emerged from behind him, followed by a face-devouring grin that never failed to make his stomach swoop.
“I haven’t been eaten,” TJ said, lifting his arms and doing a little spin as if to prove it. He’d stripped off his jacket and shirt and swapped his pants for a pair of shorts, and his hair was plastered in dark, sopping strands against his forehead. “There’s a river just over there. I went for a swim while you were sleeping.”
Cyrus tore his eyes away from TJ’s bare chest, his cheeks heating with a startled blush. “I… I-I wish you’d woken me up. I was worried.”
“Sorry, Underdog. You just looked so peaceful, you know? I didn’t wanna disturb you.”
“And you set up camp by yourself?”
“It was no biggy,” TJ said, waving off his worries as he combed through his rucksack and tossed an extra pair of shorts at Cyrus. He was smirking when he lifted his head again. “Besides… Your snoring was enough entertainment to keep me occupied.”
Cyrus slapped a hand over his heart, feigning insult. “I do not snore!”
“Okay. You just make pig-like noises in your sleep, then.”
“Very funny…”
“I thought it was cute.” As soon as the words left his mouth, TJ flushed all the way down to his bellybutton. “I… I mean… It was funny. But, like, in a cute way… Does that make sense?”
Cyrus bit his lip. “Yeah, it does… Thank you.”
“Oh. Um… You’re welcome, I guess.”
“How’s the river?” Cyrus asked, desperately searching for a way to move the conversation forward, before things became irreparably awkward.
TJ shook out his sopping hair, sending droplets of water flying across the campsite, and beamed. “It’s awesome! You have to come for a swim with me, Cy.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Why not?”
“Oh, let me think… Leeches, frogs, big scary fish with sharp teeth… Am I leaving anything out?”
TJ huffed a laugh. “A few fish aren’t gonna hurt you.”
“I’m not willing to take that risk.”
“Not even for me?”
It was a sneaky move, but it worked. At the sight of TJ’s wide, pleading eyes and protruding bottom lip, Cyrus felt his resolve swiftly crumbling. He sucked in a breath, gathering the last few shreds of his defiance, then caved with a sigh. He quickly changed into TJ’s spare shorts, pulling the drawstrings as tightly as possible to accommodate for their staggering size difference, then followed a grinning TJ out of the clearing and towards the river, grumbling all the way.
“I better not drown,” he said, poking TJ firmly in the stomach. “Or get bitten by a radioactive fish and turn into a merman!”
TJ threw his head back with laughter. “I’ll protect you, Underdog.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
By the time they reached the river, the sunlight had softened slightly, the brilliant blue of the sky slowly turning a dusty purple as dusk began to fall. The river was a shimmering expanse of oily black that seemed to stretch on for miles, and Cyrus could imagine himself wading too far and losing himself beneath the eerily flat surface of water, dragged down by a slithery grip on his ankle…
“You’ll be fine,” TJ said, noticing the body-racking shudder running down his spine. He placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a quick squeeze. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”
“Okay.”
“You ready to go in?”
Cyrus crossed his arms over his chest, his bare toes curling in the wet pebbles beneath his feet. “I… I’m not sure…”
“Here.” TJ held out his hand, eyebrows raised expectantly, and waited for Cyrus to take it. When he did, a jolt of electricity shot through his arm, burning off the afternoon chill in an instant. TJ’s thumb swept across his knuckles, and his stomach twisted into knots. “I won’t let go until you’re ready,” TJ murmured softly. “Okay?”
“Okay,” Cyrus said, and this time he meant it.
The first step came as a shock, the sun-kissed water much warmer than he’d expected as it lapped over his feet, but he quickly adjusted to the odd sensation. It was like walking through a knee-high bath in the middle of the forest, with mysterious shadows swimming between his legs and nipping at his toes –
“What was that?” he screamed, splashing a wave of water into the air as he dove behind TJ. The shadow gave an indignant flick of its tail and swam in the opposite direction.
TJ squeezed his hand. “Just a rainbow trout,” he said, pointing out another silvery fish in the near distance. “See the pink stripe across its body?”
“D-Do they eat human flesh?”
“Don’t worry,” TJ said, his words light with laughter, “unless you’re a giant insect, I think you’ll be fine.”
Cyrus allowed himself to breathe again. “Okay, good.”
“Still scared?”
“Yeah, but… Not as much.”
TJ smiled. “You’re doing great, Cy. You wanna go a little further out?”
“Um…”
“I promise I won’t let go, remember?”
“O-Okay.”
With his eyes glued on the murky suggestion of his feet beneath the water, Cyrus slowly followed TJ through the river, his knees eventually slipping beneath the surface until the water was touching his waist.
“I can’t see my feet anymore,” he said, panic quickly rising in his throat as he squinted through the water.
TJ snaked an arm around his waist. “Can you feel them?”
“Well… Yeah, but –”
“Then they’re still there.” He gave Cyrus a wink. “You’re doing fine, Underdog.”
The pride in TJ’s eyes made him feel warm and fuzzy inside, even as the sun started to sink behind the trees bordering the river. He held onto that feeling as TJ led him further and further into the water, until his toes were no longer touching the ground. Every time he started to panic, TJ would point out another fish skimming the surface of the river and start listing off random facts about it, his hand only slipping from Cyrus’ grip when he was sure he was ready. But even then, he was always close by, his eyes never straying too far as they floated in the river side by side, their fingertips brushing beneath the water.
When the sun whispered its final goodbyes, and the moon slowly faded into sight, they reluctantly made their way back to camp. He wasn’t sure what gave him the confidence to do it – maybe it was the exhilaration still coursing through his veins, or the breathtaking smile on TJ’s face – but as they stumbled out of the water, Cyrus reached over and took TJ’s hand again.
“What’s wrong?” TJ asked, taking the gesture as a sign of fear.
Cyrus simply shrugged and smiled. “Nothing.”
“Oh.”
“Is this okay?”
“Yes!” TJ cried. After a beat of silence, he blushed, surprised by his own eagerness, and lowered his voice. “I mean… yes. This is more than okay.”
Later, as they lay on their stomachs and watched the stars from the safety of their tent, Cyrus pushed the boundaries even further, resting his head on TJ’s shoulder and letting a dreamy sigh escape his lips. He fell asleep to the sound of TJ quietly mapping out the constellations above, his one hand tracing their glittering impressions on the endless, velvet sky, and the other carding soothing patterns through Cyrus’ hair.
~~~~~
Cyrus woke to the smell of pancakes hanging in the air. He was still lying on his stomach, with his one arm dangling outside the tent, and his face was smushed against TJ’s plaid jacket. He breathed in the familiar scent and smiled, his stomach fluttering at the mere thought of getting to spend the day with TJ again.
As expected, the other boy was standing over the campfire, quietly pushing the pancakes around in the pan. When he caught Cyrus watching him, he grinned.
“Morning, Sleeping Beauty.”
“You have to stop doing all the hard work while I’m asleep,” Cyrus said as he joined his friend by the fire, although he was secretly grateful for the chance to sleep in. “These look amazing, Teej.”
“They’re just pancakes… Nothing fancy.”
“They still look amazing.”
TJ flicked him a side-glance, his cheeks turning pink as their eyes met over the dancing flames. “Thanks,” he said. “I, uh… I didn’t wanna wake you up. You looked too cute. And not in a funny way, either, just… cute.” He licked his lips, a nervous laugh bubbling out of him. “Sorry. That was weird.”
Before he could talk himself out of it, Cyrus leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. TJ flinched at the unexpected gesture, dropping his spatula into the spitting oil and almost knocking the pan to the ground. Completely stunned, he slowly lifted his fingers to the ghost of Cyrus’ lips.
“What… What was that for?” he asked, swallowing thickly.
Cyrus shrugged. “It was my turn to take charge.”
“Oh.” A devious smile thawed the slack-jawed expression of shock on his face, and he playfully bumped their shoulders together. “So you’re in charge of the kisses, huh?”
“Well,” Cyrus said with a smirk, “feel free to take initiative now and again.”
“How about now?”
“Now’s good.”
And with that, TJ pulled him closer and pressed their lips together, the unmistakable curve of his smile lifting against Cyrus’ cheek. He tasted like protein bars and cheap coffee, but Cyrus would’ve happily sat there and kissed him forever, if their breakfast wasn’t slowly burning to a crisp right next to them.
“You better get that,” he whispered, wrinkling his nose at the acrid smell of smoke wafting through the air.
TJ leaned their foreheads together and groaned. “Stupid pancakes…”
“Hey! You take that back.”
“You’re such a dork,” TJ laughed.
“A cute dork?”
“The cutest.”
Cyrus ducked his head and grinned, his heart racing at his own boldness. A few days ago, the idea of TJ finding out about his crush had seemed like an end-of-the-world type of situation, and now he was shamelessly flirting with him next to a pan of burning pancakes without a care in the world. He felt like his life had been turned upside down, but in the best way possible.
“I’ll let you finish breakfast,” he said, forcing himself to let go of TJ and get to his feet. “Are we still going kayaking today?”
TJ quirked an eyebrow. “You want to?”
“Yeah… I think I can handle it.”
“Okay.” TJ nodded, a familiar shimmer of pride in his eyes. “Kayaking it is.”
As Cyrus watched his friend – boyfriend? – finishing breakfast on the opposite side of the campsite, he noticed a small patch of celandine poppies growing between his feet. He touched one of the delicate petals and smiled, his heart soaring as he glanced back at TJ. With the sun casting a perfect halo above his head, he looked beautiful, and Cyrus was overwhelmed by a sudden rush of complete and utter contentment.
Maybe camping wasn’t too bad after all.
The End.
aizawa and izuku and food headcannon
Aizawa thinks Tenya is super useful but he also thinks Izuku is too for a very specific reason. Tenya provides structure where Izuku provides motivation. The motivation to eat fruits and vegetables.
When someone complains about the meat to vegetable ratio during meals- it's expensive to feed so many growing super-powered teenagers three square meals a day- Aizawa turns away slightly toward Izuku and they look to find him going to town on several heads of lettuce, whole hot peppers, handfuls of mushrooms, and like eight huge tomatoes before even getting to his single pork cutlet ration or rice as his squad runs around like they've practised, helping him fill his bottomless pit after exhausting himself with his quirk. Aizawa just says Well, someone's not wasting any opportunity to train. No wonder he's in the class' top five. Whoever was listening feels like its a challenge and tries, vainly, to match Izuku's voracity.
They gotta pad the stew with veggies 'cause they didn't read the recipe correctly and don't have enough meat as they'd like? Look, Midoriya's working on strengthening his constitution by chewing on ginger root (actually sliced yam but they couldn't tell from where they were). Kirishima, Satou, and Shouji eat as much as they can, if crying about how much stronger Izuku is than them and how much catching up they need to do.
Kouta won't eat anything with onions? Midoriya happens to walk by, taking an enormous bite out of a fat red onion (he temporarily lost his sense of taste and is fucking with people unaware). Guess they aren't so bad.
Eri dislikes watermelon, and garlic? Izuku eats all of his friends' watermelons on a hot day and they make him follow a garlic-diet in revenge where he has to eat so many cloves before every meal (he swallows them down without chewing. difficult but not impossible) of course she doesnt know why but she witnesses the act and is Convinced. (undeterred thanks to the strength of his hunger, he eats all 3 gallons of icecream and the squad walks into the kitchen to him cracking open a coconut with a flex of his finger tips and rip the insides to shreds and slowly back away.)
Aizawa lets slip that Kaminari hasn't eaten a vegetable in a week, Izuku nabs him in a headlock and force feeds him baby carrots.
Tenya of all people actually doesn't care for veggies though he eats them no problem, gets his Agency-designed protein bars exchanged for the chocolate-chip-with-fiber-kind. (he develops a problem that is later resolved just as quietly)
Shouto eats. So little. Compared to everyone else, both in general meal size and meal contents. Izuku bribes Lunch Rush (With what, the students ask. How? The teachers wonder.) to diversify his meals, claiming a buckwheat shortage so no soba this week. Shouto tastes red meat for the first time and only slightly resents being denied his favorite food.
Ochako tries to eat as much as she can at school to save money at home, and at home she doesn't have much. Izuku gets Lunch Rush to tailor more filling, calorie-dense meals for her (Again, how? Lunch Rush is nice and would've anyway but how Izuku runs around is... suspicious) (Nezu will never say), and he begins to offer leftovers for students to take home.
Tsuyu enjoys cold-treats as much as anyone else but because of how temperature sensitive she is she can't enjoy them as often as she'd like. Izuku. Finds icecream with flies in it. Prepared by the makers with flies in it for animal-mutations with such tastes. He claims to have discovered Little Mexico in Tokyo as he reveals baggies of chocolate covered insects and tarantulas. Tsuyu becomes irredeemably "snacky" and her presence is noticed for the audible crunching sounds her food makes. (they think even he won't eat this. no one is certain. not with how he eyes all food.)
Momo is having trouble gaining weight with training regimen and her metabolism. Given his classmates are wary of his food choices by now, he reaches out to Fatgum to advise her. Momo proudly exclaims when she visibly notices weight gain, rambling to them about finally having reserves and how much more complex she can afford to make things.
Basically, Aizawa knows how to weaponize 1 (one) teenage blackhole to everyone's benefit. (Seriously, he must be a monster.)
