Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.
They're repelled by liminal spaces.
A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.
They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.
They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.
A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.
The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.
The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.
Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.
I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.
The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)
The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.
By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.
They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.
Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.
Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.
Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.
Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.
Just… fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

if you're still taking blurb requests could you maybe do octopus hybrid könig who thinks he's doing a great job at hiding his secret of being an eldritch horror (he isn't) x roommate reader who knows but doesn't care? like they're both chilling on the couch, watching a movie, and reader subtly nudges a tentacle back under his hood after they caught it poking out. basically just könig being a goofy idiot:)
(König x Reader sketch at the end♥️✨) König, bless his heart, was confident in his ability to keep his eldritch appearance under lock and key. to his credit, he’d never had a roommate - it was muscle memory to perform certain tasks with the help of an extra arm.
when you moved in he was inwardly cocky. you’d never know that you were sharing an apartment with an eldritch nightmare of a man, what a silly little mortal! König was just too good at putting up a facade, his mask concealing tentacles that would no doubt alarm you.
to be fair, it did freak you out when you first saw them. it was just out of your peripheral, light reflecting off the glistening appendages. König, stood in the kitchen, idly washing dishes. two hands washing and rinsing ceramic plates, two tentacles drying them and putting them on a rack.
it was muscle memory for him, completely unaware of your presence and simply doing chores with extra help. caught up in his own world, you stood frozen, but ultimately decided he seemed harmless. you had been living with him for a month, and he was polite, always paid his half of the rent…
why mess up something good? if he didn’t bring it up, neither would you.
a year easily passed by, König’s well hidden secret never mentioned. he was so pleased with himself. you were none the wiser, right Maus? just his innocent little roommate, treating him like a normal man. he didn’t need to know about how you caught him carrying in groceries by himself five months ago - hands full, two tentacles easily carrying in the other bags. he didn’t need to know you saw him through the crack of his bedroom door two months ago, folding laundry while a tentacle was tucking his bedsheets in. he didn’t need to know that he had a tentacle out right now.
it was a lazy, stay-in-your-pajamas sort of night. the living room lights flicked off while a documentary played (König insisted that “this documentary is good, Maus— look, they talk about different species of mollusks.”). he was completely focused on the screen, relaxed against the couch and zoned in. so relaxed that a tentacle had slipped past the hem of his mask.
you didn’t think much of it, you’d grown accustomed to seeing his tentacles. that said, you’d never been so close to one. eyes flicking up towards his face, your hand slowly moves up. his gaze, completely on the tv, gives you the smallest bit of confidence to poke at the appendage. he didn’t seem to care, only when you finally moved it back under his hood did he glance down at you, an exasperated little sigh leaving him.
looks like you finally caught him.
Tumblr media
(thank you for the inbox! I loved the idea so much - I hope the art is okay! I kept it sketchy and had fun drawing it🎀✨ I haven’t legitimately written anything since, like, sixth grade so I hope this wasn’t absolutely terrible lol)

Prompt 224
DCxDP
Now Booster Gold would like it known he is Not father material, or even responsible adult material. That is Ted, and even then they seem to share a single braincell when they're in each others presence.
But again, NOT anything close to father material. Which he repeats to both himself and the eldritch Time Entity who just handed him what he Knows to be pretty much an unborn child of its species. look, he Knows about Realms Beings- Espranto was literally his first language like many others of his timeline- so he knows the inherent dangers.
But Somehow him becoming a time-cop of sorts has endeared him towards this primordial one, thankfully. Less thankfully, it has given him a whole-ass CHILD. A BABY. HIM. Of all people!
Ted he needs help, he doesn't know if this counts as mpreg or something and he's freaking out man!

I love your deep dive Agents of SHIELD posts. Please never stop.
Don't worry I don't plan to! Actually here's one for you right now:
I think one of the best things about AoS specifically is the existence of Inhumans. Technically humans but just different enough to be classified as something other than humans. Some of them look like regular humans, but some look like actual eldritch beings, and I've noticed that there are actually some commonalities in the more alien looking Inhumans (tentacles, sharper teeth IIRC, some sort of external defense system). It's implied that there's some sort of consistent internal difference for all Inhumans, but at the same exact time they're also just humans with super powers. Boring! Where's your sense of whimsy! They share like 98% of their genome with humans, but what about that 2%? That's a pretty big amount in terms of DNA!
All this is to say that I think Inhumans should be allowed to look. Y'know. Inhuman.
I think the first generation of Inhumans (which I'm gonna be honest I sincerely believe includes Jiaying) wouldn't have any alien features (unless it was part of their Terrigenesis process, à la Alveus) seeing as they were born as regular humans and were just genetically modified. But every generation after that? Kora, Daisy, Lincoln, Yoyo, Gordon, etc? They were born with Kree DNA. It's never not been part of them. I really think they should've had Kree features, or some weird mix of almost human and almost Kree features.
It's like. Okay y'know Rise of the Planet of the Apes? And how Caesar's mom was exposed to the ALZ-112, making her really smart but ultimately just a smarter than average chimpanzee? And then Caesar was born with it already in him, and he was like. This weird mix of too-human-to-be-chimp and too-chimp-to-be-human, simultaneously too much and not enough and man and ape and both and neither and something entirely unknown and wholly new.
That's what I'm getting at here. That's what I think Inhumans should be.
ANYWAYS list of Kree features I think all second gen and beyond Inhumans should have based on what we know about Kree physiology:
Average height and stature that's above the human average. Inspired by the fact that almost every single Kree we see is absolutely massive, save for some of the women and Kasius, who I always interpreted as like. The runt of the litter.
Blue-ish blood, closer to purple than anything else. This results very slightly blue tinted skin, easier to see on paler Inhumans. This one is kinda self explanatory. Kree have blue blood, humans have red. Mix em together and you get purple.
...
Okay I'm gonna be honest we don't know too much about Kree physiology. They're kinda functionally just blue humans a little bit, which is THEEEEE most boring thing you can have an alien species be. All my other thoughts about alien features for Inhumans are baseless and self indulgent LMAO
Speed round: pointed ears, sharp teeth, slightly more likely than regular humans to be born with tails and an abnormal amount of fingers/toes, tapetum lucidum, and hackles. Most of this is based on a headcanon I have about the Kree being descended from canines, not primates. Or. Whatever the Hala equivalent is.
(I also have headcanons about Inhuman mannerisms, behaviors, and interpersonal community dynamics, but that's a whole nother post.)
Of course, the further along you are from a first generation Inhuman, the more diluted the Kree traits would get. There's some nuance there, what with Inhuman/human offspring vs Inhuman/Inhuman, and varied genetic expression and all that, but by and large, I think modern generations of Inhumans would have relatively minimal Kree features. Enough to be uncanny, but not enough to for you to immediately clock them as being part alien. Kinda just like. Slightly weird looking humans.
I think Daisy and Kora should be the exception to this, because Jiaying is really old at the youngest and really old at the oldest. It's entirely possible (and honestly kind of implied, at least to me) that she's old enough that Daisy and Kora, despite being the same age as modern generations of Inhumans, would actually technically be pretty (if not very) early gen Inhumans.
Inhumans my best friends Inhumans. They're humans they're aliens they're both they're neither they're something else entirely. It's like fucking crack to me.

I have to ask about your Chimera au (I think that's how it's spelt). You've mentioned that Sun and Moon are from a sort of hive mind species and are only acting independently because they're too far from their hive, their connection is kinda gone. If Sun and Moon were to reconnect with their hive, however that would come about, would they no longer have their fondness for Y/N or would it partly transfer to the rest of the hive like mixing a drop of dye into water? What would happen to our dear Y/N in this hypothetical?
taps my papers together neatly & Aheems.... :3c
This got my brain churning on the hierarchy of their "society," so lets strap in and enjoy the wild, rambling ride below the cut :D
As a baseline, their species is symbiotic to create one whole. Similar to lichen/mycelium. But adding in the cosmic, eldritch horror aspects, each of them have a "core" that is the spawn point of their biomass.
The two parts to the whole are "lures," who act as a beacon to appeal to "minions/branches."
Lures are like a hivemother that direct others in the system. They act as an anchor for the colony. A colony/system usually has one lure, but if they grow large enough, they may connect together and form a map of Lures working together. (That is the peaceful option; systems may also reject/attack one another to consume)
Lures possess the psychic abilities of their kind. It allows them to act as a "trade route" through the entire system to allow information to be shared.
On the flip side, Minions/Branches can detach from their hives to seek out new resources and return with information theyve gathered. They can produce mass at a faster rate, and spread the colony out further (acting as "roots")
Moon is a lure. Sun is a minion/branch. That is why when combined together, they are able to act as one organism with two outward expressions. They need eachother to survive.
They are considered runty for their kind, as they are not only relatively juvenile in the grand scheme of things, they were burned and intentionally kept from growing in laboratory environments. The information they've gathered and "imprinted" on is very human, and, similar to being ill advised to interact with baby animals and get your scent on them, it is likely others of their kind would be hostile toward them. They are no longer the same biological makeup, they've diverged too far in their mimicry attempts to appeal to the YN.
ALL THIS TO SAY, In theory, if they found a compatible colony, Sun and Moon would be happy to root down and merge into the system. Their information gathered would be shared with the hive at large, and it would be up to the other Lures to disperse or reject their findings as true for the entire colony, or dissolve the information and assimilate.
The dissolve and assimilate route, Sun & Moon would be gone as identity. It would be almost impossible for the YN to spot where they were in the network again. The YN would be more likely to become biomass to feast on than anything special. If the system isn't aggressive, tho, it would likely just be entirely indifferent to the YN. Much like a houseplant with sass.
The accept and implement route, congrats, a hivemind that could be the size of Earth itself is fascinated and infatuated with you. Their personalities would be prominent, but also duplicated across XYZ many cores and “minds.” It would be less “there's so many of them” and more, you can find them anywhere across the system and reach out to talk, and they will appear eagerly.
A very strange and mingled sense of identity.
Thank you for the question!! It was fun to ponder and got me to dig into their hypothetical biology <3

COSMIC HRT Month 1 (The Dream and First Encounter)
Hi, I'm Rosie and this is part of a story I've been wanting to share for a long time. Cosmic HRT started as a comic but I have ADHD really bad and I have struggled with consistently working on art. But as I continue in the community I want to try other mediums like writing to get my story out there. Hopefully one day I can work on turning it into a comic but I just want to at least get something out for my own sanity. This story was inspired by Dragon HRT by @ayviedoesthings and by Eldritch HRT by @dawning-mars The format was Inspired by Arynia's Hellhound HRT story over at @ariathelamia so Definitely go check all of them out if you haven't already! Also Special thank you to @dawning-mars for the Cameo!
Hello, my name is Rose but I like to go by Rosie. My Therapist suggested I should try Chronicling my journey as a way of reflecting on the crazy events that have been happening to me. I've always had problems interacting with other people so I figured I should share these journals online as a way of initiating interaction. (Sorry if that’s weird, I’m still working on my communication skills) I’m really bad at self expression so forgive me if I say something weird or mis-remember something.
Well the whole thing started a while back, I'm a 30 year old transgender woman and things had been getting worse where I lived for people like me. I heard about a new type of HRT that can actually turn people into animals! After doing A LOT of research into it and a lot of self reflection, I Felt this was something I needed but nothing I looked at felt right, felt like me. There were short periods of fancy where I got excited at the thought of being a bunny or a mouse or even a hybrid species, but the excitement always faded after a time. Nothing felt like the real me, I didn’t even know what the "Real Me" was supposed to feel like, just the feeling that something wasn’t quite right. I was stuck at an impasse, walking past and seeing others transitioning and becoming closer to their true selves every day. I liked to try and keep up to date on things so I started following some Therians online but while I was happy for them, I still felt just the tiniest bit of envy and wished I could figure out who I am.
However, that changed one day when I had a weird dream. It's a bit difficult to describe but there was a tall Being in a bright yellow robe with an expressionless mask and horns, we stood on an expansive black plane, the sky behind a stark white with what appeared to be black stars in the background. I couldn’t feel my arms or legs, I couldn’t move and could barely feel myself, I watched as the figure slowly moved towards me in a way I can only describe as smooth, not quite gliding, not quite shambling. Once it reached me it  whispered something I couldn't quite make out and I suddenly woke up with a chill. The next day I had an unexplainable urge to go for a walk through a part of town I'd never been through but it was like something was pulling me there, like I was being drawn in.
I made my way down to what was locally being called the "Therian District" though some would call it "The Zoo" though I never liked that name personally. As I was walking past a doctor's office, I suddenly bumped into someone and fell to the ground. I felt a cold chill suddenly rush into me and down my throat but it was gone so fast I wasn't even sure if it even actually happened. As I looked up there was a tall, vague figure covered in shadow. When suddenly my vision doubled, one side blue and the other yellow, before recombining. The shadowy figure was gone, in its place before me stood the most beautiful person I'd ever seen. She was extremely tall and had skin that was a lustrous purple, she wore a simple black dress with a black bow and a large black hat. Her face stared at me for a few seconds with five deep, caring eyes that seemed to be full of anxiety, not sure how I could tell that to be honest. She quickly apologized for bumping into me and ran off. I was stuck there for a few seconds going over the image in my mind before someone came over and helped me up. They asked me if I’d been hurt by "That Monster" and I gave them a sharp glare that made them back off and walk away muttering "freak" under their breath. I don’t know why but I'd felt an anger wash over me from hearing them insult this person I’d never even met. It was so out of character for me that I didn’t know how to respond so I called them an asshole and walked away.
That night I had another dream about the Being in Yellow but this time they spoke only four words to me: "Open Your Eye Youngling" After which I heard a cracking sound followed by my vision splitting again into blue and yellow, but this time they didn't recombine, instead they split and my perspective shifted to viewing 3 different angles at once. One blue, one yellow, and one gray in between them looking at glowing blobs of energy, a blue one on the right and a yellow on on the left. They were connected to me by thin white fluctuating beams of light. They seemed to be where the other perspectives are coming from.
I started to hear and feel one of myselves saying some but it was muffled and all I could make out was a vague feeling. Then the blue and yellow selves seemed to start having a conversation that I could not seem to process. It was like I was hearing words and vague wisps of intent but had no idea what was being said. After a while I woke up again, but something was different. I felt like I could see more, but I wasn't sure what it was I could see that I couldn't before. It felt like a heavy fog had lifted from my mind. Whatever it was, started to make me feel a lot more overstimulated than before. The trade-off being I suddenly didn't feel as lonely anymore for some reason.
I went to take my morning meds and noticed that something was different, my normal estrogen pills seemed to have changed from the little white circles I was used to. They were now a bit bigger and football shaped like my Progesterone but I couldn’t find any seams on them and they appeared to be filled with some kind of milky white pearlescent liquid. I tried to break one open but I couldn’t seem to penetrate the outer shell so I examined the bottle. There were a few things different about the label now too, The patient name was a strange Sigil I’d never seen before. The medication name now said "Dreamadonteride" and the Prescriber information was some kind of symbol I’d never seen before that looked like a dot surrounded by a circle with three squiggly lines radiating out from the center. I looked at the pill again and felt a mix of conflicted feelings and voices inside, but one feeling rang out louder than the others. A voice telling me that this mysterious new pill would help me finally find my true self, would help me finally be happy. So I ignored the other voices in my head telling me to stop as I popped the pill into my mouth and took a drink of water. The voices finally calmed and went quiet. I still don’t know if this was the right choice, but I made it and I was going to stick with it.

I need more Rudy. Like .. it's a very strong need...please I'm begging you 😭
[HhhhnHHHNN WORD VOMIT INCOMING-]
Following the events of what transpires in the comic "Aliens: Stronghold" (you can find it online), Jeri the synthetic xenomorph is supposedly dead, as is Doctor Nordling. The Mayakovsky prototype records along with whatever modifications Nordling created are lost forever...
But are they?
What if a somewhat less insane crew managed to perhaps gather parts of the wreckage that ensued, studied them just enough to know how to make their own, different yet still entirely functional synthetic xenomorph? A crew that does value the monitoring of xenomorph colonies spread throughout the worlds wherein these hives are placed upon to gestate, and polices the illegal harvesting of eggs or specimen (idk, bare with me okay).
The model they designed, based heavily on Jeri, needed a couple key modifications. First, it needed to be distinct enough from the standard xenomorph drone, such so that people would not get frightened by the sight of it amongst crewmates. These differences in appearance are remedied by even more aggressive pheromone secretions to both fool and calm biological xenomorphs into believing that Rudy belongs. His somewhat less accurate appearance also allows for his maintenance to be cheaper, as well as for the synth to fit into humanoid gear more effectively.
Named after the prototype Norbert, and Jeri, Rudy only seemed fitting.
Quite like his predecessor, and as appears to be a trend recently, Rudy has a very stark and unique personality that shows itself whenever he begins to grow comfortable around someone. He's curious and talkative, having a fondness for oversharing about the xenomorph species and its many casts, as well as his interests in collecting new and exciting pieces of the world he's currently exploring with his mostly human crew and all things nature-related.
Although he's nothing if not helpful and vital to the work that is being done by this team, Rudy is still a synthetic, which creates a natural divide when it comes to forming relationships. Normally, this divide is somewhat softened when a synthetic passes as human and performs actions that make it look even more relatable. Rudy is visibly, unavoidably monstrous, and he makes no real attempt to fit in with acts that are strictly human. He will sit at the table while others eat, but he's very clearly not interested in commenting on the food and tries to pull others into conversation instead. He doesn't wear clothes, he can't facially emote anywhere as intricately as a human can.
He's lonely. And he understands why.
But it's painful for the synthetic xenomorph, because he feels no joy dwelling with other synthetics, and he can't bond with xenomorphs the way he desires. He feels at home around humans, and his own crew keeps him at bay, frustrating Rudy as they consistently deny him a real connection- Sometimes even subconsciously!
That's where you come in.
Following the unfortunate accident of the resident synthetic engineer on the ship, you are assigned his role. Arriving just in time, as Rudy is in dire need of assistance from miscalculating the height of a drop. He doesn't think much of you, at first. You'll be just like the others, finding him interesting for a short while, then resorting to formalities or simply ignoring him when he's not immediately convenient.
But he still tries anyway, because he's painfully desperate for connection.
Imagine his shock as you seem very interested in conversing with him in a consistent manner. Rudy is no idiot, he understood your interest was mainly to understand the circuitry and coding within him that allowed for such an authentic and varied range of emotions, sentiments. He fascinated you beyond merely being a bizarre thing, and that made the synth happy, fulfilled.
Rudy began to latch onto you.
When he had arrived from a routine check on a hive, he'd instantly seek you out without even needing any kind of repair, just to chat about his findings, talking about the specimen xenos the same way you'd talk about zoo mascots. He'd try to drag you down into the field with him numerous times, formulating rapid-fire arguments as to why the supervisors should allow you to accompany Rudy. You can't lie and say that you weren't a tad curious, especially after hearing the xeno's numerous stories.
Somehow, after perhaps not so friendly methods, he gets granted his wish, and down you go, into the wilderness, with a synthetic.
Rudy seems elated to have alone time with you in the nature of this vast planet, and you note that he touches you a lot more often. Grabs you with his six fingered hands, nuzzles his dome against your head, hugs you from behind and even lifts you a couple of times, he's utterly euphoric, something you've never seen in a synth. Sure, your crewmates had made comments about how close Rudy had gotten to you, how the synthetic "had a puppy crush on you", but those were just jabs you didn't mind taking. And surely, when Rudy replied positively to those jests, he was only trying to get in on the joke, right?
You remember the shock and fear that permeated you as you first entered a colony. Rudy didn't let you get too far into the structure, but you got to observe the entrance, the little resting holes on walls that xenos occupied when drained. You got to see drones marching around, dragging potential hosts with them. And you even got "checked" by a soldier cast. It had been strange then, watching Rudy communicate back and forth with the xenomorph, effectively clearing you of suspicion after a few snort-hisses. Your heart never beat so loudly before, and you remember laughing wildly with the synthetic after the two of you had retreated into safer grounds.
Yet, for as much as you had grown to enjoy having Rudy as a friend, you couldn't ignore the remarks your crewmated had been making about him. How the synth would ravenously defend you from the smallest of accusations, how he collected everything you left behind and would even steal presents you gave to others. He became mouthy and troublesome when they refused to let you go explore with him.
And lately, to make it all even more confusing, you've been finding him "doing maintenance" on himself. Things he won't let you access, that he tries to deviate your attention from. For just the glimmer of a second, you hope you only imagined spotting the digital blueprint for a set of modified synthetic genitalia...
Something's not right with Rudy, you think, catching him staring intensely at you again.

My weird Ainur headcanons pt1
Gender (and sex) is for Ainur less of identity and more of personal taste. You like wearing skirts, I like wearing jeans, this sort of thing. Their identity is "genderless eldritch being" and our concept of gender is as alien to them as their whatever is to us.
Exception one: Yavanna really identifies as female, but it's a question of sex, not gender for her. She feels intimately connected to females of all species and their role as mothers. All her fanas are female, even a tree.
Exception two: Ulmo doesn't even bother to choose a single gender to present as. He's fluid, like water, ever changing. One moment he's an old man, then a child, than an elf-maid, and then he thinks someone is really being too hasty and turns into an ent.
Elves have no concept of nonbinary or transgender (they are, after all, beings in perfect harmony with their bodies), so they designated him male to create balance (7 valar, 7 valier). He didn't mind because he doesn't really care.
Ulmo has fallen in love with Nowe (Cirdan) even before Cirdan awoken. He saw a glimpse of him in the Third Theme. When he met him for real, Ulmo was kinda speechless and circled through forms, trying to choose the most beautiful and alluring. Cirdan laughed and thus broke the ice. Soon, they were inseparable.
I like the idea of Valarindi, so. Yes, there were children born to Valar. And to Maiar. And to descendants of Maiar. "Born" though is not exactly the right word; they are created, literally woven from pieces of their parents' souls. It requires a lot of time and patience, and severely drains both parents, especially if one of them is not an Ainu.
Orome was a kid of Yavanna and Aule, and the sole Valarindo who was actually _born_, not woven. That's why he's generally less "spiritual", just as his sister-wife Vana and their son Tulcas.
Caring for Orome (who was actually born and therefore had to grow up) was what made Aule yearn for more children and led him to the creation of dwarves.
Nienna chose to remain single so that her love would be shared equally between everything and everyone, not given to a single person. She is most like a nun in that respect; she could've found her special other, but decided not to look for.
In reality the Aratar are not as much about "who is the strongest", but "who is the most respected among elves". Since they have little use for Healing (Este) or Remembrance (Vaire), but delight in Hunt (Orome), we have the list we have.

Y’think the other mass effect aliens would ever look at them five fingies and be like damn, might be helpful? Or do they think human and batarian hands are weird/uncanny?
(I don’t really count asari as five-fingered, because the whole ‘parasite that looks different to each viewer’ hc thing)
That depends, how do you feel about these hands, anon?
Tumblr media
What about these? Do they fill you with fascination? Curiosity? Disgust? Intrigue? Can you imagine their texture?
Tumblr media
Would you ever fall in love with a sentient person who has any of the above hands? Would you have them as a friend? Would you trust them to watch your back in battle? Would you hand them their change with the receipt?
How would they hold a pen? How would they write your name. Can they play the piano? The lyre? Maybe a lute? Would they be cold or warm in winter?
We can figure out how hypothetical aliens would feel about human hands by figuring out how we, the humans, feel about alien hands. And animals are the closest things to aliens we have currently.
Whatever answers came to your mind, aren't far off from what Mass Effect aliens would feel about human hands. Just like looking at the hands of a orangutan can cross into the uncanny valley territory, aliens with similar biology to humans (non-shapeshifter asari for example) might get an uneasy feeling looking at our non-blue hands. Or maybe drell get queasy at seeing our scale-less limbs, much like you'd feel seeing an animal with transparent skin with all of its organs on display, the fact you can see human veins and skin stiching makes any species with some sort of protective layer extremely anxious at first glance.
The most important part of any given hand is the opposable thumb. At least that's the conclusion humans came to, since it was what allowed us to seamlessly transition from animals into the stone age and weild tools.
But most hands start as feet—not our current feet designed for bipedal movement, but a prototype—so did ours. Evidence suggests that humans evolved thumbs and tool-making front "feet" while we were still quadrupeds!
We learned to create before we learned to walk on two legs! then it lead to our spines being fucked opsies
Human hands are also... kind of weird, don't you think? I mean.
Tumblr media
This is some eldritch horror type shit.
Tumblr media
The bones of your arm literally cross into an X when you flip your hand 180 degrees, to a lot of aliens who cannot flip their arm, this must seem absolutely horrifying. Imagine an alien being able to turn their head 180 degrees like a freaky owl, wouldn't that phase you at least a bit? Yeah, that's how those aliens view our arms.
Don't get me started on how some people can flip their arm 360 degrees...
Human fingers are special in the way they have more joints than most animals. Our biology meant for dexterous fingers that excel at delicate work. And the fact we can control each finger separately, bend, and curl it. Every single finger might as well be counted as a separate limb.
If you want a comparison, we don't have the same degree of control and awareness over our toes. Besides the big toe and pinky, the middle ones are hard to move separately. Sure, with practice, you can get better at it, but it's still much harder to flip someone off with your toes than with your fingers. It's not impossible, but hard.
To put more emphasis on just how much of an important position our hands hold, each finger, not hand, but finger, has its own area in the cerebral cortex.
Tumblr media
While your toes—with the exception of the big one—share the same somatotopic map.
Our wrists are an intricate fragile design. They have a limited number of use. The thin skin above the radial artery easily allows you to find your pulse, while most animals, our size, have their wrists covered in protective layers.
Tumblr media
We were made for tool-making and tinkering, which is what I'm getting at. Turians didn't need to make weapons (for a long while at least) when their claws and thick metalic hands could easily tear the meat off of bone whole, while humans had no other choice. Why our teeth aren't as sharp, why our legs aren't as fast, why our punches don't pack much in comparison to that of a bear or else; our natural evolution invested so much into making us resourceful tool-makers.
You know the saying when you're holding a hammer, your brain views it as an extension of your body rather than your hand holding a tool?
We don't need layers of insulation, we can make clothes. We don't need protective shells, we can make armour. We don't need claws, we can make swords.
So can other species, yes! But they arrived at that stonewall stage much later than humanity who hit their physical limits pretty early which forced them to relay on tools, therefore altering our biology to be precise tool-makers (and keep in mind evolution takes THOUSANDS of years to come into effect)
But to make, to create anything, you need high tier hands with opposable thumbs—how the elcor and hanar evaded that requirment, I'll never know. Flexible, precise fingers with total awareness and control are valuable add-ons that allow you to jumpstart civilisation.
A lot of aliens wouldn't be able to play our instruments, but we might be able to play their instruments if we create synthetic attachments to add-on to our hands because it's unlikely that their hands move in a way that we cannot replicate. I could hold my last three fingers together and attempt to write like an angara, but an angara can't separate their last three fingers and attempt to write like me.
We always poke and prode at our bodies, seeing how we can improve it, why surgery is so common nowadays, why CRISPR technology is being reserched earlier than it should relative to how neglected other branches of science are.
Because humans cannot wait to play god with their bodies!
We still want to tinker and make toys, be more efficient with our creations, invent even more complex instruments, add more buttons to a videogame controller.
The asari hands evolved (or were genetically engineered by the protheans) for biotics and mass effect field handling, the turian hands for cutting and slicing, the krogan hands for splitting skulls, the drell hands for insulation against the burning sand, etc etc.
The human hands for creating.
Would other species want our hands? Depends on what the species values. Turians and krogans would think living with our hands must be a nightmare, drell would find them overexposed and too... wiggly.
Salarians might see the benefit of having fingertips smaller than your fingerbase... unless their inflated fingertips allows for a better grip on small tools?
What I think most aliens would be the weirdest about when it comes to humans is our hair, straight legs, and chest if we follow the asari are shapeshifters HC.
Hair as in all hair. Body hair, head hair, eyelashes and eyeybrows, and even pubic hair.
It's all just... so weird to them.
They call it fur. They 100% call it fur. The only reason we even classify hair as hair is because we have it, so we're particular about categorising it and just why it's different from fur.
But, at the end of the day hair and fur are made out of the same thing, tomayto tomahto, to them, it's just fine fur.
On the other hand, our head hair might remind them of trees. In a nice way? Think dangling vines of leaves, like those of a willow tree.
It's made of keratin, just like our nails, and most aliens have nails, yet none of them have even a single strand of hair. Except the other animals on their planet definitely have hair/fur, so why is everyone else so weirdly smooth?
When your only interaction with a certian biological trait is within the animal kingdom and... pets of your civilisation, it builds a certain impression.
Like how we coo at krogans having tails, the other alien species must think our hair is absolutely something to fawn over. I feel like a lot of aliens would unwarrantly touch your hair at the start of the human integration, try to pet it, before they got the memo that humans absolutely abhor the act and turn hostile if done to them.
It's like common courtesy not to touch human hair, they still think about it tho. Maybe if you're close to an alien and hang out a lot, one day they hesitantly ask to touch it because they've always been very curious, and you oblige.
They're probably surprised to find out it's a dead part of your body. We can't feel anything in our hair except at the root. But they get the memo that hair is an important part of self-expression in humans. Be it dyeing it the most vibrant colours and spending hours styling it, or covering it in headwraps and hijabs with a beautiful pin or two at the corner.
I see the asari especially loving the curly hair, more specifically the kinky type and how it holds its shape. The process of braiding it takes an immense amount of focus and effort, the results being breathtaking. It's the height of elegance to them.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, washing your hair in the sink before applying oil and brushing it, each time one of your alien roommate pass by, they get completely intrigued by the process and just stand watching you work on each knot by the open door.
By the time you're finished styling it, like a handful of aliens are just standing there, completely enamoured, some even taking pictures.

This is Mersion... aka forever in horny jail (bonk) also called, Pink Eldritch Bastard, Pink Evil Man, Bastard Man, The Horrible One, Overgrown Knife Cat (all affectionate terms ♡ )
Mersion is... a handful XD He owns a club called the Nighttide Lounge which is run by concubus folk (incubus and succubus respectively) It's a safe space for these creatures to thrive and exist without being judged for their species sensuality and a place where other folk come for drinks and share in the space. Sometimes folks run out with a new partner traisping behind them, other times broken or lonely hearts find their way in to not be alone for a while. There is a colored pin system used by the lounge that shows which of the staff wants to flirt or interact or those who want to simply want to work in peace.
He is a protector of this space of sorts but mostly... he is a pain in the arse anytime he surfaces from the back. XD He teases and flirts with just about anybody that piques his interest, be it staff or patrons alike. His powers of influence are strong enough that even residing behind a locked door most of the time, it's what keeps the space dreamy and soothing. (Also horny)
I love him and draw him a lot, you will definately see more of himb. ✧ᴥ✧ )

Anatomy, gesture & perspective practice ft. my GaaLee Alien!AU: Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes. Sometimes, when they're alone and curled up together, Lee forgets just how dangerous Gaara's species can be. He's very aware of their differences and the wonders that come with having an 8 1/2ft glowing, eldritch, cat-bug-abyssal-fish-partner, but on the rare occasion that Gaara does fly off the handle, its no wonder how he has survived traveling though so many hostile worlds for so long.
You can see more artwork & lore about this AU [here], and read the actual fanfic I'm writing [here].
[Reblogging helps to share and support this project. This stops my hours of hard work from dying in your likes, let’s others enjoy it, and motivates me to draw more of this AU! <3]

So a thing I like to do in my spare time is stat out ridiculous character sheets for various beloved TV/Film characters in 5e on DnD Beyond. They are typically homebrewed and/or higher level, but I have no plans to play these versions ever so it's fine.
So with the new teaser for Avengers: Doomsday dropping and reawakening my MCU obsession (it died with Tony Stark RIP), I have decided to stat out all six OG avengers from the MCU + Loki. Full disclosure, I did these in like an hour, and I am sure other people have different opinions and approaches to these characters, but these are just the result of a whimsical pastime. Honestly I'm just sharing these for fun.
Bruce Banner - The Hulk (let Mark Ruffalo have a movie pls)
Level 11 Barbarian, Path of the Berserker (Because Rage = Hulking out, duh)
Level 3 Cleric, Knowledge Domain (Banner has like 7 PhDs, + in fanfic, he's their field medic, iykyk)
Feats: Durable
Background: Hermit (2024) - Healer Feat
Species: Human - Tavern Brawler Feat
Proficiencies - Athletics, Intimidation, Medicine, Perception, Religion, Survival
Expertise - Arcana, History
Clint Barton - Hawkeye (in the comics he has a background in the circus and I am here for it)
Level 11 Ranger, Subclass: Fey Wanderer (going with vibes), Fighting Style: Archery (bc obviously)
Level 3 Rogue, Subclass: Scout (it just feels right to me)
Feats: Crossbow Expert, Archery
Background: Entertainer (2024) - Musician Feat
Species: Human - Lucky Feat
Proficiencies - Athletics, Deception, Persuasion
Expertise - Acrobatics, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Performance, Stealth, Survival
Natasha Romanoff - The Black Widow (she is so good at her job that she doesn't need to multiclass)
Level 14 Rogue, Subclass: Assassin (do I need to explain?)
Feats: Actor, Lightly Armored
Background: Criminal/Spy (2024)
Species: Human - Alert Feat
Proficiencies - Insight, Investigation, Sleight of Hand
Expertise - Stealth, Perception, Deception, Acrobatics
Steve Rogers - Captain America (his oath is to freedom - but like real freedom not politically approved conditional freedoms)
Level 11 Paladin, Oath of Devotion (once again going with vibes)
Level 3 Fighter, Battle Master (he is too tactical to not be)
Feats: Inspiring Leader, Thrown Weapon Fighting, Protection
Background: Soldier (2024) - Savage Attacker
Species: Variant Human (the serum) - Shield Master (OF COURSE)
Proficiencies - Athletics, History (he lived it lol), Insight, Intimidation, Perception, Persuasion
Thor Odinson - God of Thunder (in my head, his patron is the people of Asgard)
Level 8 Warlock, Subclass: The Fathomless (mainly for the lightening and thunder based spells)
Level 5 Fighter, Eldritch Knight (needed weapons proficiencies, but also magic)
Feats: Elemental Adept (Lightening Damage), Elemental Adept (Thunder Damage), Great Weapon Fighting, Savage Attacker
Background: Noble (2024) - Skilled Feat
Species: Aasimar (more god-like)
Proficiencies - Arcana, Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Persuasion, Survival
Loki Laufeyson Odinson - God of Mischief (he has three classes and none of them use the same ability modifier which honestly I think Loki is just *that* character anyway)
Level 3 Sorcerer, Shadow Magic (bc mischief)
Level 3 Rogue, Subclass: Phantom (he's a sneaky boi)
Level 8 Wizard, School of Enchantment (Loki definitely studied magic more than Thor he has big nerd energy)
Feats: Spell Sniper
Background: Charlatan (2024) - Skilled Feat
Species: Aasimar
Proficiencies - Acrobatics, Insight, Perception, Sleight of Hand, Stealth
Expertise - Arcana, Deception, Persuasion
Tony Stark - Ironman (my beloved)
Level 9 Artificer, Armorer (for the armor infusions)
Level 5 Bard, College of Eloquence (bc he's the most famous pre-superhero, used to media, and a sassy bitch)
Feats: Heavily Armored, Heavy Armor Master
Background: Merchant (2024) - Lucky Feat
Species: Human - Tough Feat
Proficiencies - Animal Handling (a bit random but it comes with a feat weirdly), Deception, Insight, Investigation
Expertise - Persuasion, Sleight of Hand

exordia is great two thirds in. top five characters so far, in no particular order
ugandan-filipina lesbian physicist with a severe catholic guilt complex and equally a strong catholic urge to reach for the divine and protect it to the cost of her body and sanity and every aspect of herself
chinese mathematician who calls herself a liar while being quite literally pathologically obsessed with The Mathematical Truth Of The Universe who guides self loathing lesbian to revelation
kurdish failmom survivor of genocide who sometimes has alcohol-fueled blackouts and resents her seven year old daughter for saving her and others' lives through horrific war crimes, is also in a fucked up threesome with said war crimes daughter (now an adult) and their shared alien snake wife who speaks to them both telepathically
the other alien snake guy around who knows his species is damned to hell from birth and wishes to free it from damnation but is also very ok with going to hell himself because he fucking loves committing atrocities and yells I LOVE GENOCIDE in the middle of the book
the eldritch thing that has manifested in kurdistan that turns everyone into fractals and is older than the universe itself and desperately awaits someone to unlock it and give it a soul

After much lurking and overthinking, i have finally decided to create my own kin blog :3
Edit: I should have probably said this earlier, but I will not be sharing donation asks. I have trust issues due to being scammed and intimidated by beggars IRL. Sorry!
I am a 20-something autistic alterhuman and i use she/it (sounds like "shit" hehe) pronouns. My kintypes are:
cat therian
energy being/light entity otherspin (i'm an alien being, not an angel! but i don't know the name of my species yet :( )
Both kintypes are psychological and spiritual. I additionally identify with the voidpunk label.
In this blog I will post about my alterhumanity and occasionally about fandom and special interest related stuff. Here are my special interests:
animals
the hippie subculture and all things psychedelic (although i don't take drugs recreationally other than occasionally alcohol)
as my spintype implies, energy beings, cosmic/eldritch beings, angels and anything that may be considered a "higher being"
Lastly, since i'm here for a good time, so I will block anyone who...
posts discourse of any kind
has "Zionists/Pro-Israel DNI" in their bio (I grew up in Israel and still have family there)
calls me a "starseed" or an "indigo child" or tries to worship me
and that's all! I am looking forward to finding new creature friends :)

Wilderfeast is an RPG about becoming part of the natural world by making it part of you.
Players assume the role of “wilders”: monster hunters/chefs who wield gargantuan kitchen implements and gain powerful mutations from each monster they eat. Using those powers, they seek harmony between humanity and the wild.
All creatures, be they humans or monsters, obey the One Law of the One Land…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Wilderfeast, players take on the role of the mutated rangers who roam the land trying to stop the frenzy, an eldritch virus which makes kaiju-esque monsters violent and self-destructive before leaping to stronger hosts.
Tumblr media
Gameplay alternates between Journeys (high-intensity, travel and combat) and Downtime (low-intensity, rest and roleplay). In both phases, you resolve conflicts with a simple but flexible dice pool system, built around a central idea…
Tumblr media
Wilders are both, so they can choose which of their sides to embrace when taking Tests: will you focus up, and stay true to your human side, or go wild, and unleash the monster in you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The world of Wilderfeast is the One Land - a post-post-apocalyptic supercontinent, both familiar and fantastic, beautiful and harsh, where food is magic.
Tumblr media
The One Land is vast, wild, and old. It’s populated by humans and monsters, extraordinary creatures who take inspiration from paleontology, cryptozoology, and works like Monster Hunter and Godzilla.
The One Land is also vulnerable. Humans, relative newcomers here, have unleashed the frenzy, an eldritch virus which makes coexistence between humanity and the creatures everyday more difficult.
The One Land is not an easy place to live. It is littered with both the bones of extinct species and the ruins of fallen civilizations. But after each apocalypse, something new and green grows from the ashes.
Tumblr media
Wilderfeast’s system is fast, customizable and easy to learn.
All creatures, both humans and monsters, have these attributes:
Tumblr media
When something’s at stake, you roll a Test. Every Test combines a Style with a Skill, such as a Mighty Call to intimidate a monster into backing away or a Swift Search to follow tracks in the undergrowth.
Wilderfeast has a simple but flexible dice pool system. The mechanics are built around a central idea: humans use d8s and monsters use d20s. Wilders are both human and monstrous, and they can switch between these dice sizes.
To build your dice pool, gather a number of d6s equal to your level in the Test’s Style (such as “Mighty”, “Precise”, “Swift” or Tricky”). These are called your Style Dice. Every 5+ on your Style dice grants you a Success on the Test.
Then, add your Action Dice, which determines the quality of the Success you eventually achieved. Humans use a d8 for their Action Die, while monsters use a d20. However, wilders are both. During this step, you choose which side of yourself to embrace.
Tumblr media
If you focus up, you stay true to your human side: add a d8 Action Die to your dice pool. This option is consistent and reliable.
If you go wild, you embrace your monster side: choose one of your Traits and describe how it helps you in this situation. Then, remove 1 Style Die and replace it with a d20 Action Die. This is risky, as it lowers your overall chance of success, but it could make your action an order of magnitude more effective. Now, roll your dice pool for a Test.
Tumblr media
Tests create a spectrum of results beyond binary success and failure. The range of choices when making Tests also accommodates different playstyles. You can aim for big numbers, deep strategies, and tactical play. Or you can get creative and add details to the fiction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilders are the ones most capable of stopping the spiral of fear and death that’s consuming the One Land. They’re not a formal order: some look like cavemen, others like wandering knights. Each is free to decide how to take on the job, but they all share some common attributes:
Each wilder has a Tool, enormous kitchen implements to produce mind-boggling amounts of food. Wilders repurposed those artifacts as weapons, though they still come in handy as cooking aids. There are 6 Tools in total (Cleaver, Pan, Mitts, Spit, Torch and Twine), and they define a wilder’s “class”: your training, disposition, and approach to being a wilder.
Each wilder has a Specialty, which corresponds to one of the monstrous lineages. Your choice of Specialty indicates your character’s expertise in both hunting and caring for members of that lineage. There are eight Specialties in total, like Roaster, Fisher, Butcher or Gardener.
Each wilder has a three-course Background. Your backstory, initiation and drive, framed through food: what meal defined your childhood? What meal made you a wilder? What meal do you crave the most?
Tumblr media
These mutated rangers work in packs and have taken on the duty to stop the frenzy. Packs are free to decide both what harmony with nature means and how they hope to achieve it. For example, bounty-packs resemble the grizzled mercenaries of The Witcher, while free-packs evoke the wolf-raised warrior of Princess Mononoke.
As a wilder, what path will you walk?
Tumblr media
The One Land’s ecosystems are original, but not alien. All monsters celebrate and exaggerate the features of real animals, from dinosaurs to dogs. Their supernatural abilities are grounded in the struggles they face to survive. A breath-taking variety of creatures that share this world with humans and wilders: 30+ different creatures, each with its own Traits, body Parts and Behavior that make every hunt different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilderfeast features a modern and versatile style of combat that blends puzzle-solving thrills and fast-paced action strategy. Every pack of Wilders can take a different approach to the Hunt: will you split in groups and attract the monster’s fury to expose its weak spots, or will you growl at its face and go full frontal?
Each creature gains 3 Actions at the start of their turn during combat, which they can spend on the following Activities, each with a variable cost:
Tumblr media
Combat orbits around the Monster, so you measure all distance in combat using Strides. Wilders spend combat between 0 Strides, where you’re right on top of the Monster, and 4 Strides, where you just barely register as a threat.
Tumblr media
This number represents the distance you’re maintaining, not your static position. At all times during a hunt, you’re circling the Monster, chasing after it, or driving it toward more favorable terrain. Two wilders who are the same number of Strides from the Monster could either be right next to each other or on opposite sides of it, but that’s intentional. Moving around or with the Monster is automatic; moving towards or away from it takes effort.
Tumblr media
The iconic meals of the wilders combine the roughness of campfire cooking with the ceremony of a holiday festival. These wilderfeasts are celebration and mourning, all wrapped up in one. During this phase, you clean, prepare, and cook the Monster where it fell, turning it into a meal that honors its legacy and gives you strength. In doing so, you learn about it. The more you know about the Monster, the better informed your decision when you choose what mutation to inherit: after you eat The Feast, choose a Style, Skill, or Trait in which the Monster has more levels than you do, or which you don’t have at all. You permanently gain a level in that Style, Skill, or Trait.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not every meal gives such dramatic mutations as a wilderfeast, but food is always magic in the One Land, even the most casual of snacks. Before setting out on the road, a merchant eats a meal full of hardy greens to give them the endurance for a day of travel; a guard, beginning their shift in a watchtower, chews on raptor jerky to sharpen their eyesight; a student brews tea with a night-blooming flower so they can stay up late studying. The changes caused by these meals are subtle and temporary, and they're woven into the fabric of everyday life.
Tumblr media
When you have a cooking opportunity, such as when you Camp during your Journeys, you and your packmates can make a meal. To cook, you select Ingredients, determine how much Stamina the meal restores (typically 1 for each Ingredient used), and determine the meal’s effect, choosing among those of the Ingredients you used.
These meals can either be served fresh or saved for later and turned into Snacks (so that you can consume a portion when you need to restore Stamina or trigger other effects but you don’t have the time to stop and cook). Once you’ve cooked the meal, be sure to describe it! Tell everyone enough about the dish’s flavor, textures, or appearance that they can taste it in their head.
Tumblr media
Wilderfeast is a letter-sized, hardcover book of 250+ pages, with full-color art throughout. It includes:
