I’ve been thinking about hands, and how meny fingers I use
Like I be using all them digits
Y’think the other mass effect aliens would ever look at them five fingies and be like damn, might be helpful? Or do they think human and batarian hands are weird/uncanny?
(I don’t really count asari as five-fingered, because the whole ‘parasite that looks different to each viewer’ hc thing)
That depends, how do you feel about these hands, anon?
What about these? Do they fill you with fascination? Curiosity? Disgust? Intrigue? Can you imagine their texture?
Would you ever fall in love with a sentient person who has any of the above hands? Would you have them as a friend? Would you trust them to watch your back in battle? Would you hand them their change with the receipt?
How would they hold a pen? How would they write your name. Can they play the piano? The lyre? Maybe a lute? Would they be cold or warm in winter?
We can figure out how hypothetical aliens would feel about human hands by figuring out how we, the humans, feel about alien hands. And animals are the closest things to aliens we have currently.
Whatever answers came to your mind, aren't far off from what Mass Effect aliens would feel about human hands. Just like looking at the hands of a orangutan can cross into the uncanny valley territory, aliens with similar biology to humans (non-shapeshifter asari for example) might get an uneasy feeling looking at our non-blue hands. Or maybe drell get queasy at seeing our scale-less limbs, much like you'd feel seeing an animal with transparent skin with all of its organs on display, the fact you can see human veins and skin stiching makes any species with some sort of protective layer extremely anxious at first glance.
The most important part of any given hand is the opposable thumb. At least that's the conclusion humans came to, since it was what allowed us to seamlessly transition from animals into the stone age and weild tools.
But most hands start as feet—not our current feet designed for bipedal movement, but a prototype—so did ours. Evidence suggests that humans evolved thumbs and tool-making front "feet" while we were still quadrupeds!
We learned to create before we learned to walk on two legs! then it lead to our spines being fucked opsies
Human hands are also... kind of weird, don't you think? I mean.
This is some eldritch horror type shit.
The bones of your arm literally cross into an X when you flip your hand 180 degrees, to a lot of aliens who cannot flip their arm, this must seem absolutely horrifying. Imagine an alien being able to turn their head 180 degrees like a freaky owl, wouldn't that phase you at least a bit? Yeah, that's how those aliens view our arms.
Don't get me started on how some people can flip their arm 360 degrees...
Human fingers are special in the way they have more joints than most animals. Our biology meant for dexterous fingers that excel at delicate work. And the fact we can control each finger separately, bend, and curl it. Every single finger might as well be counted as a separate limb.
If you want a comparison, we don't have the same degree of control and awareness over our toes. Besides the big toe and pinky, the middle ones are hard to move separately. Sure, with practice, you can get better at it, but it's still much harder to flip someone off with your toes than with your fingers. It's not impossible, but hard.
To put more emphasis on just how much of an important position our hands hold, each finger, not hand, but finger, has its own area in the cerebral cortex.
While your toes—with the exception of the big one—share the same somatotopic map.
Our wrists are an intricate fragile design. They have a limited number of use. The thin skin above the radial artery easily allows you to find your pulse, while most animals, our size, have their wrists covered in protective layers.
We were made for tool-making and tinkering, which is what I'm getting at. Turians didn't need to make weapons (for a long while at least) when their claws and thick metalic hands could easily tear the meat off of bone whole, while humans had no other choice. Why our teeth aren't as sharp, why our legs aren't as fast, why our punches don't pack much in comparison to that of a bear or else; our natural evolution invested so much into making us resourceful tool-makers.
You know the saying when you're holding a hammer, your brain views it as an extension of your body rather than your hand holding a tool?
We don't need layers of insulation, we can make clothes. We don't need protective shells, we can make armour. We don't need claws, we can make swords.
So can other species, yes! But they arrived at that stonewall stage much later than humanity who hit their physical limits pretty early which forced them to relay on tools, therefore altering our biology to be precise tool-makers (and keep in mind evolution takes THOUSANDS of years to come into effect)
But to make, to create anything, you need high tier hands with opposable thumbs—how the elcor and hanar evaded that requirment, I'll never know. Flexible, precise fingers with total awareness and control are valuable add-ons that allow you to jumpstart civilisation.
A lot of aliens wouldn't be able to play our instruments, but we might be able to play their instruments if we create synthetic attachments to add-on to our hands because it's unlikely that their hands move in a way that we cannot replicate. I could hold my last three fingers together and attempt to write like an angara, but an angara can't separate their last three fingers and attempt to write like me.
We always poke and prode at our bodies, seeing how we can improve it, why surgery is so common nowadays, why CRISPR technology is being reserched earlier than it should relative to how neglected other branches of science are.
Because humans cannot wait to play god with their bodies!
We still want to tinker and make toys, be more efficient with our creations, invent even more complex instruments, add more buttons to a videogame controller.
The asari hands evolved (or were genetically engineered by the protheans) for biotics and mass effect field handling, the turian hands for cutting and slicing, the krogan hands for splitting skulls, the drell hands for insulation against the burning sand, etc etc.
The human hands for creating.
Would other species want our hands? Depends on what the species values. Turians and krogans would think living with our hands must be a nightmare, drell would find them overexposed and too... wiggly.
Salarians might see the benefit of having fingertips smaller than your fingerbase... unless their inflated fingertips allows for a better grip on small tools?
What I think most aliens would be the weirdest about when it comes to humans is our hair, straight legs, and chest if we follow the asari are shapeshifters HC.
Hair as in all hair. Body hair, head hair, eyelashes and eyeybrows, and even pubic hair.
It's all just... so weird to them.
They call it fur. They 100% call it fur. The only reason we even classify hair as hair is because we have it, so we're particular about categorising it and just why it's different from fur.
But, at the end of the day hair and fur are made out of the same thing, tomayto tomahto, to them, it's just fine fur.
On the other hand, our head hair might remind them of trees. In a nice way? Think dangling vines of leaves, like those of a willow tree.
It's made of keratin, just like our nails, and most aliens have nails, yet none of them have even a single strand of hair. Except the other animals on their planet definitely have hair/fur, so why is everyone else so weirdly smooth?
When your only interaction with a certian biological trait is within the animal kingdom and... pets of your civilisation, it builds a certain impression.
Like he we coo at krogans having tails, the other alien species must think our hair is absolutely something to fawn over. I feel like a lot of aliens would unwarrantly touch your hair at the start of the human integration, try to pet it, before they got the memo that humans absolutely abhor the act and turn hostile if done to them.
It's like common courtesy not to touch human hair, they still think about it tho. Maybe if you're close to an alien and hang out a lot, one day they hesitantly ask to touch it because they've always been very curious, and you oblige.
They're probably surprised to find out it's a dead part of your body. We can't feel anything in our hair except at the root. But they get the memo that hair is an important part of self-expression in humans. Be it dyeing it the most vibrant colours and spending hours styling it, or covering it in headwraps and hijabs with a beautiful pin or two at the corner.
I see the asari especially loving the curly hair, more specifically the kinky type and how it holds its shape. The process of braiding it takes an immense amount of focus and effort, the results being breathtaking. It's the height of elegance to them.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, washing your hair in the sink before applying oil and brushing it, each time one of your alien roommate pass by, they get completely intrigued by the process and just stand watching you work on each knot by the open door.
By the time you're finished styling it, like a handful of aliens are just standing there, completely enamoured, some even taking pictures.

✨ first, a disclaimer! this is a list of things which i have found to subjectively improve my own appearance. i’m sure there’s many more treatments i’ve missed, and you may also feel that some of these treatments aren’t for you- i’ve just included everything which i have enjoyed personally in order to inform you of your options, from which you can make your own decisions on which to take part in. also, little blurb; what society or others think of you doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and it is not my goal to promote being concerned with these things here. these are meant to help you be more excited about your own appearance every morning when you wake up, and take more time and care for yourself. partaking in these activities should add to your life, not subtract. ur all cute and valuable already ✨
also second disclaimer: i initially tried to make an amazon storefront as i thought i could put all the products i mentioned on one page so you could have access to them easily, but it turns out regular people can only get an amazon affiliation. this means that if you buy anything through the amazon links i provided, i’ll receive a very tiny percentage of the profits. this doesn’t benefit you, nor does it make the price higher for you, but if you’d like to support what i’m doing, it would be cool if you bought things through the links i provided. if you hate me or something, you can just search and buy them through amazon yourself! these are all products that i used and bought from amazon far before i signed up for the amazon affiliation, i’m just genuinely obsessed with amazon but i’m not affiliated in any way with any brand i mentioned.
✨ 𝕙𝕒𝕚𝕣 ✨
bleach/dye: personally i am a huge fan of foil highlights! tons of gals look amazing with dark hair or their natural hair color, but i have found that, for me, they really brighten the face and add depth to my hair. you could also darken your hair, do balayage, or tone it a different shade. i always recommend going to an actual well-rated salon rather than attempting to do it at home. they can ensure you’re getting the proper undertones and the correct volume developer for your hair. if you’re getting your hair bleached, look for a salon that uses olaplex or a similar bond builder in the mixture to avoid completely damaging the structure of your hair. at home, i tone my hair to remove gold/brassy tones with either this pravana mask, or a tiny amount of this semi-permanent violet hair dye mixed into my conditioner (you should only leave this in for a minute the first time as it can be very strong). i’ve found most purple shampoos are quite harsh, especially on fragile hair, so i always go for conditioner.
at-home protein treatments: if your hair is damaged from dying or styling it, i highly recommend using a protein mask on it at home once a week when you can to restore the structure of your hair. olaplex no 3 is a popular option but i really like this k-beauty collagen mask for a way cheaper option that works just as well in my opinion! many brands make protein and keratin masks though so feel free to order whichever you like.
cleansing conditioner: if you’ve used every “hydrating” and “repairing” shampoo + conditioner under the sun but your hair is still dry or fragile, i recommend using cleansing conditioner instead! shampoo, even sulfate free ones, can create friction and cause tearing in your hair, but cleansing conditioner cleans your hair without stripping or damaging it! i love this one from renpure and it’s a lot cheaper than other cleansing conditioners like wen, which i found to be less effective and weigh the hair down. if your hair does ever start to feel a little weighed down or oily, use shampoo to clean it more deeply- i tend to use it once every 1-2 weeks depending on how much i’ve been working out. cleansing conditioner will also help maintain a keratin treatment as it won’t strip the treatment from your hair, which brings me to this next consideration...
keratin treatments: keratin treatments are a semi-permanent treatment which help to make your hair quite a lot straighter, and much smoother, softer, shinier, and dry quicker! these help so much if you have frizzy or damaged hair, or your curl pattern is super irregular like mine! curly hair is beautiful too but if your curl pattern is tough to manage and make look pretty, then they’re a great option. a lot of people ask me if they're damaging but i find that they really help with my damaged fake-blonde hair and my hair stylist agrees, but he said to stay away from relaxers or japanese straightening treatments if your hair is fragile as those can be very damaging! if you’re in nyc, i recommend ‘hair bar nyc,’ their treatments are around $100 and last a couple months before they start to fade. i always go for their strongest solution, the 24 karat.
hair growth vitamins: personally i had short hair for a long time and loved it and still think it looks great on so many people! but i’m currently growing it out, so i’ve been taking hair vitamins daily to speed up the process. any brand works, but i love this brand ‘hair anew’ on amazon, or any store-brand which contains extra nutrients like zinc and pantothenic acid (not just plain biotin) as i feel that they work better and also clear my skin. they also help grow your nails longer and stronger, your eyebrows thicker, and your lashes longer and thicker!
hair extensions: these are less common/necessary, but for girls whose hair is much shorter than they want it, is damaged from bleach/dye/heat, or whose hair is quite thin, clip-in extensions can be a game changer. i’ve had tape-in extensions before and found that not only did they damage my hair and thin it out incredibly badly afterward, but they also truly were a lot of work to style and still looked bad after half an hour of trying to get it to work. a pair of clip-in remy extensions should also only set you back $60-100 while any sort of semi-permanent extension is far more expensive. i currently have this brand fullshine from amazon but it may also be wise to find a beauty supply store where you can match your hair to the extensions. this is also a great method of showing your hair stylist exactly what color you want your hair dyed to be! and pro-tip, never ever use shampoo on your extensions if you want them to last more than a month before they’re ratty and you need new ones. only ever wash them with plain conditioner, every couple of weeks!
shower filters: if you live in a place which has hard water, this can make your hair more brittle, dry, frizzy, tangled, and even make your hair a shade of green, due to the dissolved minerals drying in your hair. i installed this water filter in my shower to purify the water. it only takes 5 minutes; you simply twist off your showerhead, twist the filter on, and then twist the showerhead back on. they also help with acne, eczema, and dandruff! i definitely noticed a difference in my hair softness when i got one.
leave-in treatments: i figure my favorite leave in-conditioners and serums are worth a mention here! i’ve been using the same 2-3 products for several years and i’ve never found anything that works as well as them. the two non-negotiables for me are it’s a 10 leave-in conditioner with keratin, and either biosilk or chi silk infusion. and if and when my hair is very dry or damaged from recent bleaching, i also put some moroccanoil on the ends.
✨ 𝕖𝕪𝕖𝕤 ✨
brows: at-home tinting is a quick and cost effective way to make your brows more defined! i’ve used henna dyes before, which also dye the skin beneath the brows and make them look extra thick, but i found that lighter colors were always more orange than “light brown.” instead i love and use this brand of lash/brow dye. i don’t buy their developer- i just followed a reviewer’s instructions to mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and dye, and it works great! and obviously choose the color which suits your hair color. also worth mentioning, the light brown can be quite light or quite dark depending on how long you leave it on so start with 5 minutes and go from there!
also, of course always keep your eyebrows well-shaped! if you’ve never had them shaped before, it’s a good idea to get it done professionally first and then maintain it at home with tweezers. i’m a big fan of benefit brow bar for waxing! they have stand-alone locations or smaller bars in a lot of ulta’s.
lashes: getting your lashes done is a great way to feel more done-up even without makeup! lash extensions are amazing at defining your eyes and making them look bigger and more awake, but they’re also a lot of money and upkeep. personally i love lash lifts as i have long lashes (from hair growth vitamins woo) but they just don’t curl very well and are super blonde; a lash lift dyes and curls them and lasts far longer than extensions with no bi-weekly touch-up appointments! if you're not opting for any treatments, i’d still recommend hair growth vitamins to grow your lashes longer!
you can also dye your lashes at home! i’ve tried at-home lash lift kits several times and i found them all messy and completely ineffective, possibly due to my lack of skill, but i couldn’t personally recommend them as of yet. i would recommend at-home lash tints though! if i don’t currently have my lashes curled and tinted from a lash lift, i will use this dye, which is the black version of my eyebrow tint, and use the same hydrogen peroxide formula as described above, to dye my lashes black. it’s great if you’re lazy with makeup, going swimming, or wanna look a lil extra cute when you're at home.
✨𝕤𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕒𝕣𝕖 ✨
professional facials are a great option if you want to feel pampered, get extractions from someone who knows how to do it properly, or get an intensive peel or mask. but they can also get incredibly expensive, while some of their treatments can be done entirely at home!
physical exfoliation: this is pretty important for basically any skin type, in order to remove dead skin cells! you should avoid harsh scrubs, like those with walnut shell, as they can create microtears in the skin. sugar-based scrubs are safe, but personally i use either of these two items:
-facial brushes! i got a clarisonic years ago, and i love it! if i remove my makeup, then wash my face with my hands, but then wash my face with the clarisonic, there's generally still makeup that comes off on the brush. i would recommend a clarisonic but there’s now highly rated much cheaper versions on amazon so i don’t think i’d recommend spending $100-200 on one when this $33 version with similar sonic vibrations is available.
-microdermabrasion is a great, more advanced option, for removing dead skin cells and helping to clean out your pores. the ‘diamond’ tip runs along your skin to exfoliate dead skin cells, while a vacuum pulls off the skin cells and unclogs your pores. they are a bit more expensive- i got this $90 one for christmas and love it, though there are also similar ones which run around $60 and also have great reviews. i only use this about once a week.
chemical exfoliation: this is great for brightening up the skin. whenever my skin simply looks tired, dull, or congested, i opt for a chemical exfoliant. there are tons of chemical exfoliant options, but my go-to has to be these pads by dr dennis gross. they consist of 2 pads- one with the acids which will exfoliate your skin and one with a neutralizer- and only take about 5 minutes total to use! they are an all time favorite, as i see a difference in my skin right away, but aren’t so harsh that i get any redness or peeling afterwards. the ordinary is also a great skincare brand for all kinds of acids and oils for really cheap! they make a peeling solution which one of my friend uses and she loves it, and i’ve tried a lot of their products over the years and loved them too.
general masks: there are tons of different masks to help with different skin problems and skin types. basically, you've got clay masks for oily skin, hydrating masks for dry skin, and undereye masks for when you're tired as hell.
radiofrequency machine: i first found out about this from stephanie shepherd’s top shelf interview. it’s somewhat commonly used in high end facials, and my friend who is going to cosmetology school said they're great for acne and skin tightening! to my understanding, it works by killing bacteria in the skin, and stimulating blood flow and collagen production. the one i have is only $40, which makes it seem too good to be true, but apparently studies have shown they’re effective in wrinkle reduction, and i’ve found it really helpful for making breakouts heal faster.
other products: i haven’t actually found many other products that i think are a “holy grail” item, besidesss the embryolisse lait creme concentre. i have really dry skin, especially in the winter, and actually bought myself the smallest jar of la mer available this past christmas to see if it could help, but i found it to help absolutely nothing. the lait creme, though, has made my skin actually look like normal skin again, when it used to be extremely flakey and irritated. it’s known for commonly being used backstage at a lot of couture fashion shows, which sold me on it initially lol.
✨ 𝕤𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕖 ✨
teeth whitening: i use crest whitestrips to whiten my teeth at home! i’ve found them really effective, but i’d recommend using them a bit less often than the instructions recommend. the kind i have recommends using them daily at first but, anytime i’ve used them two days in a row, my teeth were sensitive and in pain for a whole day afterwards. otherwise they’re great though, just space them out a bit!
also, of course, floss and brush your teeth morning and night! i’d also recommend adding a tiny bit of baking soda on top of your toothpaste, to help with whitening. i used to do this daily back in high school and started actually getting compliments on my teeth being white.
lip filler: as many of you know, i’ve had lip filler done, and I've received a lot of questions about them, so i thought i’d include the basic rundown here. these obviously aren’t something that you should feel ugly without. your lips can be beautiful whether or not you’re following this trend. personally, i never thought i would get lip fillers, but last year i did start noticing that when i smiled in pictures, my top lip would totally disappear. i was hesitant but went and got my lips done knowing that it would dissolve in time, and i ended up loving them and feeling totally glamorous with them! i must caution you to avoid getting too much “lip flipping” done if any. over time, my injector started putting the filler around the edges of my lips to flip my lips out and make them appear bigger. it’s okay in small doses, but some injectors start cutting corners and over-doing it, which leads to the “duck face” look, and my lips have started to look slightly pursed even at rest, but are also completely lacking volume in the middle. i’m getting them dissolved and re-done soon, but let this be a lesson to you to ask for little to no lip flipping, and ask for the filler to be more in the center of your lips. before lip flipping, no one ever seemed to notice i had anything done, then suddenly after two appointments with lip flipping, everyone and their mother started asking if ive had my lips done. so i’d highly recommend them, with that caveat in mind.
✨ 𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕤 + 𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕥 ✨
manicures: okay so you can do your nails at home if you’re doing regular polish, or even if you're using an at-home gel polish set. you should file them into a nice shape (i prefer them round as opposed to square, as they’re less likely to break), push back and trim your cuticles if needed, and paint them. but personally i love getting acrylics or dip powder! i always get tips added if my nails aren’t very long at the moment, and i feel that it makes my fingers look longer and more elegant and feminine. either way is cute though!
pedicures: okay so getting a pedicure at the salon is a great experience, but i also see no reason to get one given that i can just trim and paint my toenails at home. i would highly recommend ordering some peeling foot masks though- these are the ones i have. they’re these little plastic sock masks that you leave on for an hour, take off, and then ~3 days later an entire layer of your skin starts peeling off and your foot is baby soft. if it’s taking a while to peel off, go soak your feet in a bowl of warm water or in a bath/shower and scrub it off. i used to sit with a foot exfoliation machine for like 20 minutes whirring away at my feet but with these you can just chill on tumblr for an hour and then a few days later your feet are totally renewed.
✨ 𝕓𝕠𝕕𝕪 ✨
self tanner: self-tanning is probably my #1 beauty tip. honestly i’d give up makeup, conditioner, whatever, as long as i could hold onto my bondi sands dark tanning foam. a good tan makes you look so fresh, healthy, glowing, and fit and toned. before tanning, you should try and exfoliate yourself in the shower. i use a scrubby mitt, specifically this one, which also comes with an actual tanning mitt and a mini facial tanning mitt for applying your tanner. afterwards, you’re going to want to apply some lotion on your knees, elbows, and heels, as these areas tend to be dry and soak up more self tanner and turn darker than the rest of your body. then just apply your self tanner all over with a tanning mitt, and blend well. i swear by bondi sands dark foam! st. tropez gives me an allergic reaction personally and a lot of other ones smell bad or have an orange guide-color, but bondi sands smells like coconut and has a really pretty cool-toned tan guide-color. (DHA is the active ingredient in self-tanners- its a clear chemical which reacts with the skin cells and turns them darker after a few hours, while the initial color that you see right out of the bottle is the guide-color. self-tanners will market their tan as “not orange” or something like that, but this only refers to the guide-color, not the tan itself, as they all contain DHA which turns skin the same color. regardless, i love that bondi sands has such a nice guide-color, so even when i’m pale, i can just throw some on and run out the door looking tan!) after a week or two, your tan is going to start getting patchy no matter how many layers you’ve added, so you’re either going to want to exfoliate as much off as you can and do a fresh new tan, or if i have time i’ll apply the bondi sands self-tan remover before exfoliating to get virtually all of it off.
glitter: this is a bit more out-there, but i love love love using shimmery lotions on my body. i feel like a fairy princess, but also it gets rid of that chalky flakey dry look my skin can get in the winter. before swim shoots or the victoria’s secret fashion show, models are always getting slathered in shimmery lotion or oil. there’s a lot of expensive shimmery body oils out there, but you can also just make your own with cosmetic mica and your favorite lotion (i use a gradual tanning lotion to keep my tan looking fresh). cosmetic mica is basically what they use in all the shimmery makeup you buy, and it doubles as an amazing highlighter or eyeshadow!
✨𝕞𝕒𝕜𝕖𝕦𝕡 ✨
basic tips: i’m by no means a makeup guru, but i do feel as though my makeup skills have strengthened a lot since i was a little hippie at 16 years old who just wore hemp lip balm and organic powder foundation sometimes, so here’s some tips i picked up since then. i did also take a one-day makeup masterclass in LA with a celebrity makeup artist who has done the kardashians makeup, which is where i learned virtually all these tips:
✰ let your moisturizer sit for a few minutes before applying foundation ✩ beauty blenders tend to be far better for blending liquid makeup into your skin than brushes ✰ using just one shade of foundation on your face can make your skin look flat. either use a few different shades of foundation, or a light concealer and a darker contour stick, to add dimension to the face. also, use 2 or 3 different blush colors to add dimension ✰ blend. more than you think you need to. your foundation, contour, blush, eyeshadow, everything. just keep blending. ✰ don’t make your eyeliner too thick along the entire eye. this makes your eyelids and eyes look smaller. it should be thin until you thicken it at the outer corners of your eyes. ✰ as for the rest, fill in and brush your eyebrows, wear a lip color that goes well with your skin tone, highlight the inner corners of your eyes to look more awake, use a setting spray if you want to look dewier and make your makeup last longer ✰
if you’re curious about my full makeup routine here are all the products i use:
✰ embryolisse lait creme concentre moisturizer ✰ giorgio armani luminous silk foundation ✰ tarte shape tape concealer ✰ anastasia beverly hills contour stick in ‘mink’ ✰ too faced born this way setting powder ✰ wet n wild blushes in ‘mellow wine’ and ‘apricot in the middle’ ✰ huda beauty rose gold eyeshadow palette (this is pretty but doesn’t blend super well you should probably buy the abh modern renaissance palette) ✰ stila micro tip eyeliner ✰ too faced better than sex mascara ✰ abh clear brow gel ✰ eyebrow powder, doesn't matter what brand but i got tamnova at the makeup course so i use that. thin eyebrow pencils are good for a natural look but my brows are too thick for them lol ✰ this cosmetic mica for highlighter ✰ glossier generation g lipstick in the color leo ✰
makeup bag: a somewhat extensive list of on-the-go beauty products for you to consider carrying with you in your makeup bag:
✰ perfume. you can buy small on-the-go perfume bottles like these and fill them with your favorite scent ✰ lip products, such as lip balm, lip gloss, or lipstick ✰ lotion. i bring a small hand lotion bottle, and also carry a small container of my body lotion and cosmetic mica mixture ✰ mini lint roller ✰ tide stain stick ✰ downy wrinkle releaser fabric spray ✰ eyelash curler ✰ foundation powder ✰ mascara ✰ mini hairbrush ✰ mini dry shampoo ✰ mints, mint gum, or mini mouthwash ✰ mini deodorant ✰ summer’s eve wipes ✰ hydrating facial mist ✰ blotting papers ✰

WHAT HAVE YOU TRIED FROM DECIEM’S NIOD? DROP IT BELOW!👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 _______________________________________________ I’m a longtime fan of NIOD’s Copper Amino Isolate Serum 2:1 (CAIS2)— the cool blue peptide serum that comes in 2 bottles you mix yourself. I would be bummed out to hear CAIS2 had been discontinued if NIOD’s scientists hadn’t somehow figured out a way to combine them for me. . So I was all amped up to be among the first to try the new CAIS3! Like all NIOD products, it’s super pro-skin health and super complex. What’s CAIS3 do? Deciem says it “aims to target visible signs of skin aging, including textural irregularities, uneven tone, visibly enlarged pores and a general lack of healthy radiance normally present in younger skin.” Serious stuff, right? . Peptides fascinate me. What are peptides, anyway? Of course, there’s an insightful article from the experts on the Paula’s Choice Research Team that goes deep into what peptides are, how they benefit the skin — and what makes them among the best age-fighters in skin care. (See the link in bio to my blog today!) . Here’s an excerpt: . “Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks of proteins such as collagen, elastin and keratin. When applied topically to the skin, peptides act as little messengers, triggering skin cells to perform specific functions such as building collagen and elastin, encouraging skin to look and act younger.” . CAIS3 is infused with a blend of 1.0% Pure Undiluted Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) and 1.0% Pure Undiluted Tripeptide-1 (GHK), both of which are “found in nature and originally isolated from human plasma.” What?! . Known household remedies and food for thicker looking hair
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjNSRM3rx1E Food for thicker looking hair is an article about well-known household and food products for thicker looking hair. Who would not like to have thicker looking hair if it becomes thinner with increasing age or even falls out? Thin hair is a widespread disease in men and women. We have already dealt with the causes in another chapter. Natural aging, disease, and genetics can be the causes of thin hair. Regardless of the cause, it may be possible to make the hair look naturally thicker with everyday products. In most cases, the natural household remedies and food for thicker looking hair mentioned are inexpensive and low-risk. You may find them worth trying. Advice: It is important for me to say that the results of the natural treatments with the natural remedies and food for thicker looking hair mentioned here will vary depending on the individual. Most natural remedies and here also food are very well examined by the contents materials and the nutritional values, but not concerning the hair care. People with allergies must inform themselves about the ingredients of the used remedies and food for thicker looking hair before the treatment. The application or use of these products can lead to allergic reactions. If sudden and increased hair loss occurs, you must first talk to a dermatologist. There may be a medical reason for hair loss. The methods mentioned here cannot take the place of medical treatment for diseases (lack of nutrients or alopecia). Make that before you try the food for thicker looking hair.
Food for thicker looking hair needs a healthy and nutritious diet
Food for thicker looking hair contains healthy fats, proteins and a number of vitamins. It may be that the reason for thin hair is missing nutrients. To remedy this, people with thin hair should include some of the following nutritious foods in their diet: - Salmon is rich in protein and fatty acids. - Then eggs contain proteins and omega-3 fatty acids as well. - Nuts are sources of fatty acids and vitamins. - Yogurt, beans, and bitter substances. A person should strive to add 1 or 2 servings of any of the above food for thicker looking hair to their daily diet. Adding just 3 or 4 servings a week can help improve hair health. Food For Thicker Looking Hair The Egg Is No. 1 Food for thicker looking hair is among other things the egg. Did you know that there is a day of the egg? It was founded in 1996 by the International Egg Commission in Vienna. A medium-sized egg contains about eight-nine grams of protein, eight grams of fat, few carbohydrates and has about 80 calories. The many minerals and vitamins it contains make it particularly valuable. The egg contains a lot of vitamins. For example, a hen's egg contains bone-stabilizing vitamin D and vitamin B12. This is also important for blood formation. The proportion of vitamin A (Retinol) is very high. Among other things, it ensures the elasticity of the eye and the adaptation of the iris to certain light conditions. Vitamin E protects cells and vascular walls and vitamin B6 is important for the immune and nervous systems. Vitamins are mainly found in egg yolk. The minerals are sodium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, iodine, fluorine, zinc, copper, manganese, chromium and selenium. Calcium, phosphorus, and iron. Egg white is particularly rich in sodium and potassium. An egg treatment can help to make the hair look thicker. That is why an egg is a portion of food for thicker looking hair. This is how it is applied: Whisk 1 or 2 eggs and apply to damp hair, then let the eggs work for about 30 minutes and wash the hair thoroughly with warm water and mild shampoo. You can also mix the eggs with oil and water. Then mix the egg yolks with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of water. Apply this mixture to the scalp and dry hair, let it work for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water and a mild shampoo. Do this once or twice a week for several weeks. This can strengthen the hair. Olive oil is another well-known household and food product for thicker looking hair Olive oil is known as food for thicker looking hair and one of the healthiest oils. The calorie content is very high with 810 per 100 ml. Olive oil contains a high proportion of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Other important ingredients are vitamins A and E, minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus and trace elements such as iron. Olive oil moisturizes the hair and makes it shine again. When massaged into the scalp, it helps to prevent dandruff and itching in dry scalps. If you have dry hair and split ends, hair treatment with olive oil can help. Simply take a few drops of pure oil and massage the oil into the tips of your hair. Allow the oil to work for up to an hour and then rinse with a mild shampoo. Hair treatment can also be applied to the entire hair, the washing out is then a little more complex. After that, you know that olive oil is food for thicker looking hair. A recipe for food for thicker looking hair is this: one egg yolk, one tablespoon lemon juice, one tablespoon olive oil and 3 tablespoons beer. Mix the ingredients and spread over towel-dried hair. Wrap the hair with foil and a towel and rinse the mixture with shampoo after 30 minutes. How does onion juice help with hair growth? Onions are one of the best food for thicker looking hair. The onion has a high sulfur content and improves blood circulation to the scalp. The juice stimulates the hair roots and promotes hair regrowth. Sulfur is an important component of hair (collagen and keratin). Each hair consists of 90 percent keratin. This gives every single hair strength and elasticity. Onions work against dandruff, scalp infections and protect against premature graying. The combination of onion and honey is very good for the scalp because the honey has many strong antioxidants. They peel an onion and mix it finely. Then place the onion in a fine sieve and press it through. Mix the extracted onion juice with honey and add a few drops of essential oil as needed. Note: To reduce the onion odor, add some lemon juice or water to the mixture. Directions for use: Massage with the mixture on the bald areas or the whole scalp and wrap the hair (cotton cloth) and let it work for 30 minutes or overnight. Rinse the next morning with clean water and a mild shampoo. The body needs time to strengthen the cells and form new ones, so you should repeat the application 3 times a week for several months. To strengthen the effect, you can integrate onions daily into your diet. Onions supply the scalp from the inside with important nutrients that stimulate hair growth and protect against hair loss. Especially raw onions are very beneficial. Chewing gum is available for bad breath! The Orange Is A Further Food For Thicker Looking Hair This fruit can help a person's hair in different ways. The ingredients can improve the natural shine of the hair. The acid contained in oranges helps to dissolve residues of hair products on the scalp. The oranges have a pleasant scent. This makes the treatment more pleasant. You can use oranges as a hair treatment by crushing fresh oranges and massaging them into the hair and scalp as a mixture. Let the puree work for about 1 hour and then rinse it out. Aloe Vera The thick leaf plant consists of a large extent of water but has numerous other ingredients. Vitamins C and E, magnesium, and zinc. The plant is moisturizing and vitalizing. Who applies its gel on hair and scalp reaches thereby a strengthening and invigorating effect. In the plant, there is a chemical compound Beta-Sitosterol. It promotes the blood circulation of the scalp. If the hair loss is due to malnutrition, the plant can help because of its potassium content. It frees the pores of the scalp from sebum and other deposits (similar to oranges) and the hair can grow again. There are commercial products that contain aloe as an active ingredient. These products are often offered in the form of gels and creams that are applied directly to the scalp and hair. But beware of additives! For your own solution you can massage pure Aloe Vera juice onto hair and scalp and after 30 minutes rinse it out. Some people mix the aloe vera juice with coconut oil or olive oil. You can use this treatment once or twice a week. Avocado An avocado mush moisturizes stressed hair and makes it shine again. However, it does not help against hair loss. Basil is my last well-known household and food product for thicker looking hair This aromatic herb, which is mostly eaten with tomatoes, has mentioned in connection with hair loss. Scientists have succeeded in isolating ingredients that are supposed to stop age-related hair loss. As no broad studies have been published here yet, I will keep my distance here that this is food for thicker looking hair. Basil should only be used as a kitchen spice. This plant contains some important ingredients: essential oil, tannins, and flavonoids.

Cutie Reviews: KiraKira Crate Oct 19
Considering I canceled this subscription recently, doing these last few reviews for it kind of makes me sad.
This months theme: Beauty Tricks and Treats
“Exclusive Japanese beauty trends to help you get through a frightfully eventful month! October’s crate is all about having fun with Japanese beauty and taking care of yourself. Add these unique products to change up your routine.“
Kuromi Narikiri Face Mask
Our first item features the ever-popular Kuromi, with an adorable printed face mask that was made as part of a collaboration between Sanrio and Japanese pop artist Nabeyuka. It contains rose extract and collagen to smooth and hydrate the skin, and has a very strong rose scent.
♥ ♥ ♥
My skin has felt really nice since I used to, and the rose scent is still noticeable even though it’s been about 7 hours since then. The smell was wonderful too and it is really cute, but I did have a few concerns: the mask is really big on the face, so I had a part of it hanging off into my hair, and the eye holes were awkward shaped so my eyes were uncomfortably close to the mask and kept watering from that and some seasonal sensitivity. The mask is supposed to be worn from 15-20 minutes, and I noticed that around the 15 minute mark it was drying an peeling up in various spots.
Halloween Mystery Gift: Malibu Lip Gloss
Our next item is a “mystery cosmetic“, and that is pretty much all they say about it. But usually when we have a chance to get these, it’s usually just a past item re-released, and I do believe I’ve seen this before- I’m not 100% sure though.
♥ ♥
The color isn’t bad, but if the faint lip mark isn’t obvious, it’s actually very light on the lips and just adds some shimmer; which isn’t bad if you like subtle touches. The wand is also very soft. But the product is also goopy and sticky, and smells like an ink pen (tastes like it too), I really didn’t like it.
Lavender Bath Salts
This little packet is your best friend waiting to give you a good, peaceful nights rest. Lavender is the best source of product or scent to have when one needs to calm down and unwind, it also helps ease fatigue.
The product is a neonish purple, but after it gets mixed into the water it becomes a really pretty light blue, sort of indigo color.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The lavender scent is extremely strong, but I noticed that it died down fairly quick in comparison to the orange pumpkin pack from the previous box, so I’m not sure how long the entire packet would last in a bath. No stainage, and my hand skin feels wonderful though, very smooth and soft~
Duck Darling Smile Exerciser
If you read the blog then you might recognize this odd duck in the bunch; we’ve gotten this from a NMNL box some months back. I didn’t open it because I’ll probably be giving this extra one to someone else.
Basically, you just use this 3 times a day in 10 second intervals by biting down on the inner area. The purpose of this product is to help tighten the skin while curving up the corners of your lips for a natural, quirky smile.
In all honesty, I wasn’t too crazy about this item. It’s fine, and I suppose it’s a little fun to use, but at the same time I feel pretty stupid using it so I don’t enjoy it very much. I also felt like I got better results using another item I got from a past KiraKira Crate.
Rose Hair Oil
Our next item is some rose oil for the hair, made from a blend of jojoba and rose oil, and various other treatment items, along with Keratin and vitamin C; all with the intent of shiny, strong, and healthy hair.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The product is thicker than most oils I’ve ever used but it didn’t make my hair feel heavy or gross or anything. It smells very rosy, just a tiny less than the face mask did, and I can see a difference when I compare the side I put it in to the side without it.
Color Hair Chalk
Our last item this month is this really fun, colorful touch to the hair. Whether you want to use it as part of the costume, or just for a change of pace, this is a great first step. It comes in a large array of colors, and as you can see I got purple- really close to pink.
I’ve been wanting to try out hair chalk for a while now because I was actually considering getting the lower portion of my hair dyed (light pink of course ♥). I thought hair chalk would be a fun alternative in case I’m not ready for that sort of commitment though.
♥ ♥ ♥
The color is bright and really pretty, but you need to go over the hair a lot to really begin seeing it (but I assume if you have light hair its more apparent). I also noticed it applied to the hair without the oil a lot better. My only issue is that it seems to lose its brightness over time. When I put it on, it was really bright but then a few minutes later, I couldn’t even tell it was still in my hair until I aggressively rubbed the hair on my hand and purple showed up.
There was no fall out of product in comparison to some of the really pigmented chalks I’ve seen either, and it comes off of the skin pretty easily if you get it all over your hands during application, but if you take your time with it then it should be fine. I think if you’re considering hair chalk or just want a fun pop of color, this would be a pretty good choice because I feel like this would have mixed results, in that it probably works better for certain conditions than others.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 4 out of 5. Everything works to some extent, it was a fun and colorful box too, and we had some variation in the items and their uses (but it was still heavily face-oriented). I felt like a couple of items could have done better.
Theme - 4 out of 5. Technically, this isn’t supposed to be a Halloween box as much as it is an all-month long box (although the various descriptions sound Halloweenish). I get that, I see it... but I actually kind of wish it was more focused of Halloween. Both beauty boxes really failed to capture their previous years strong Halloween vibes, which was kind of a bummer.
Price - 2.5 out of 5. I might just be stingy or something, but I feel like these items shouldn’t equal around $30 dollars. To me, they feel closer to $15. The items are nice, but as I said, a few could have been better- but mostly everything is reusable, so maybe that adds to the value a little.
Total Rank: 7 out of 10 Cuties. I liked the box and its items pretty well, but I had some minor complaints on various aspects. I would still think this box is worth it... but maybe not as much as some other boxes.
♥ Cutie Scale ♥
1. Rose Hair Oil - Again, the smell is great. It feels really nice in the hair, makes it nice and shiny without looking greasy, I’m going to enjoy using it.
2. Kuromi Face Mask - I love how pretty it smells and the fact that my face still feels really nice is a great bonus. I just wish the holes were a little different, I also think it could use a little more product to keep it sealed to the skin better.
3. Hair Chalk - I wish the purple color was a little bit brighter, because I have trouble seeing it in my hair. But like I said, it’s pretty fun, I would consider buying a few more to try out at some point.
4. Lavender Bath Salts - It smells really good, like real lavender. The color was really pretty too.
5. Duck Smile Exerciser - It’s completely ridiculous and silly looking, but it does a great job in perking people up.
6. Mystery Item - I don’t hate the lip gloss, but I’ve had better.

This is probably the MOST frequently asked question I receive on a daily/weekly basis and - of course - it’s a valid one too. Unfortunately, many still perceive relaxed hair to be "thin", "stringy" and "limp".
Shoulder length with thin ends - My Relaxed hair prior to starting my HHJ
My thin Relaxed ends prior to starting my HHJ
While thinning and "chewed-up ends" was a common thing to witness in Relaxed hair decades ago (see above), I would say this perception is no longer the norm. The perception that equates Relaxed hair to being thin, pre-dates the era of ladies embarking on a Relaxed hair journey and taking the time to understand their hair, its needs etc. Nowadays, Relaxed hair automatically equating to T H I N hair is faaaaar from the truth - with the help of proper care of course! In my opinion, obtaining and maintaining a thick Relaxed hair ponytail, or hair in general, is never accomplished by just doing “one” thing. I believe a combination of multiple things done frequently attributed to the fullness of my Relaxed hair and ends. Below, I share with you all of the healthy hair habits that I've instilled into my hair regimen contributing to my thick and healthy Relaxed hair ponytail. 1. Washing and Deep conditioning weekly - Words cannot express how important it is to deep condition your hair on a consistent basis. I know you hear it time-and-time again, but it's no joke!! For me, washing and deep conditioning on a weekly basis (using heat i.e. hooded dryer and steamer) has been a game changer. My hair gets a weekly dose of moisture and protein which helps in nourishing my strands to withstand breakage preventing damage and it increases the fullness of my strands. Also, using the 3 penetrating oils (Avocado, Coconut and Olive oil) mixed with a few of my deep conditioners has really helped to strengthen and preserve my hair cuticle from the inside out - which equals fuller healthier hair. 2. Incorporating protein in my regimen frequently - Since I began incorporating more protein (balanced with moisture) into my regimen, my hair has increased in thickness by far! Being scared of protein, to the point of never using it in your regimen, will set you up for a serious setback. Facts! Protein is great because it causes the hair shaft to swell in diameter; therefore, increasing the overall thickness of your Relaxed strands. Protein treatments fortify my hair preventing breakage. So less breakage = more hair on my head = fuller looking hair and pony overall. I always look for "Hydrolyzed protein" in my protein treatments/DC's. Hydrolyzed keratin and Hydrolyzed collagen are my favourites. Every time I do a protein treatment, I always follow up with a moisturizing treatment to soften and hydrate my hair. Balance is key! 3. Keeping my ends trimmed - Having a ponytail with "chewed-up" ends is neverrr a good look! I maintain my ends on a cycle that works for me. I notice that when I trim every 10-12 (essentially quarterly) my ends remain at its fullest! Incorporating this "preventative maintenance" trimming schedule catches thinning or split ends before they get worse without having to do a big cut months later (better to be proactive than reactive). When I trim every 3 months, my ends remain full, my ponytail looks and feels thicker and my hair hangs better. Never skimp on your trims, your ‘future-self’ will thank you for it. 4. Moisturizing and sealing frequently - Let's just be clear, oils do NOT moisturize the hair. Period. Oils cannot hydrate the hair, only water based products can. It's important that all moisturizer's have water as the first ingredient. I personally prefer water based moisturizers that have a liquid-y consistency, typically containing Glycerin, and I seal with Jojoba oil. I moisturize and seal daily, if not every other day. Moisturizing and sealing has increased the elasticity and fullness in my strands due to the increased moisture levels. Increased moisture levels = prevents breakage = less thinning = fuller hair. Just being consistent with this simple hair habit has kept more hair on my head and less on my clothes, bathroom counter and floor.
5. Stretching and using a "Normal" strength relaxer - Relaxing at 10-12 weeks post Relaxer has always been beneficial for my hair and hair type. Stretching out my Relaxers gives my new growth a chance to grow in fully and become "visible" enough to apply the Relaxer touch up to my new growth ONLY. Relaxing sooner, with no visible new growth, can cause overlapping (relaxing previously relaxed hair) which can lead to over-processed hair which causes thinness, breakage and overall damage to your Relaxed hair. So avoiding the entire over-lapping and over-processing drama, has allowed my strands to remain at its fullest. Also, Normal strength relaxers process slower, in comparison to Extra strength. Slower processing time translates to more texture remaining in the hair after a relaxer touch up. More texture = fuller, thicker hair & ponytail. 6. I prevent "Relaxer run off" - I do no relax my new growth without my ends being protected from the Relaxer. Relaxer run-off is a term used to describe the process of when you are rinsing out the relaxer and the possibility of the relaxer "re-relaxing" your strands/ends as it's being rinsed from the hair. As mentioned before, Relaxing previously Relaxed hair can cause over-processing which, of course, leads to thinness and breakage. I always protect the length of my hair from Relaxer run- off by creating a barrier between my hair and the Relaxer. I always coat my ends with ROUX Porosity control and DAX (petroleum based hair grease) for maximum protection. This layer of protection prevents the Relaxer from penetrating and processing my ends. As a result, my ends remain full! 7. Doing Scalp massages - After wash days, I typically like to massage my scalp with Jamaican Black Castor oil. I find that massaging my scalp with JBCO, in a gentle circular motion, stimulates my scalp and increases the blood flow to my hair follicles. As a result, I noticed that my hair growth rate has sped up and the density of my hair has increased for an overall thicker ponytail. 8. I Protective style weekly - Approximately 4 days of of the week my hair is in a safe protective style. By safe I mean a style that will not negatively impact the health of my hair/ends i.e. bun, clipped up etc. I rock protective styles so that my hair is off of my shoulders and not rubbing back-and-forth against the fabric of my clothing (causing friction, tangles, dryness etc.). This simple hair habit, preserves the healthy of my ends as they are shielded from the elements. Too, the moisture levels remain higher in my hair as opposed to having my hair loose and hang down (my hair will lose moisture quicker). More moisture = less breakage= less thinning = fuller ponytail!
Having a full Relaxed ponytail is POSSIBLE! Be Intentional and Be consistent.
Remember: Wigs, ponytails, weaves will fade but investing in your own hair will NEVER go out of style!

10 Ingredients You Should Look For When Buying Skincare Products
There’s a growing clamour for healthier and more organic skincare options today. In response, skincare companies are constantly coming up with ‘revolutionary’ ingredients to incorporate into their new stock. But how do you distinguish the useless fads from the truly effective products?
In this regard, taking a hands-on approach and being critical of what you’re applying to your skin pays off in the long run. So rather than chasing the latest and trendiest ‘solutions’, here are 10 ingredients in skincare products that you should care about:
Retinol
This ingredient should be at the top of your list. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that impressively reduces wrinkles. It’s also one of the top dermatologist-recommended ingredients for clearing up acne. Cosmopolitan warns that retinoids do tend to break down in direct sunlight, so it’s best to apply a high, broad spectrum sunscreen on top of products with Vitamin A.
Niacinamide
This ingredient is an essential nutrient and a form of Vitamin B3. Niacinamide helps build keratin and grow the lipid barrier — helping your skin retain moisture and stay firm. Because it regulates your sebaceous glands, it also prevents oily skin. Read the labels carefully as it is sometimes written as ‘niacin’ and ‘nicotinamide.’
Hyaluronic Acid
Best when used with retinoids and niacinamide, hyaluronic acid helps retain skin moisture. This works best with dry or sensitive skin, as it aids in keeping it hydrated and looking supple.
Omega 3 fatty acids
This essential acid can be found in flax seed and fish products. Aside from promoting good heart health, Omega 3 fatty acids also nourish the skin. Creams and oils that contain Omega 3 fatty acids maintain softness and increase skin elasticity.
Vitamin E
According to the National Institutes of Health, Vitamin E can help slow the ageing process. Face and body creams that contain Vitamin E can also reduce scarring and the risk of gaining facial lines. Asian beauty portal Pretty Me lauds Vitamin E for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as its ability to combat free radicals, or molecules that aggravate skin ageing. While Vitamin E can also be found in kale or spinach, applying it directly on your skin promotes hydration and rejuvenates the cells.
Biotin
Biotin, or Vitamin B7, is an essential vitamin for the body. It can be naturally found in beef liver, pork chops, and some vegetables. Often referred to as Vitamin H for its benefit for hair and skin, biotin is necessary for cell regeneration. Deficiency in biotin leads to scaly skin and rashes. When applied to skin, studies suggest that biotin helps cells reach their full growth.
Vitamin C
Probably the most familiar item on the list, Vitamin C protects your skin from harmful UV lights. While it’s not a sunscreen, this vitamin helps increase keratinocytes, which in turn, prevent sun damage. Lower Vitamin C content in the dermis leads to wrinkles and drying out.
Caffeine
More than just a kick in your morning drink, caffeine contains antioxidants vital in fighting free radicals. Topical products that contain caffeine perk up the skin and stimulate blood circulation. It’s commonly found in eye creams as it’s also a vasoconstrictor — it narrows blood vessels, which reduces the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles.
CoQ-10
Medical News Today highlights that directly applying coenzyme Q10 to the skin has been shown to reduce oxidative damage. This compound is normally found in your cell’s mitochondria and functions as a catalyst in energy production. Depleted levels of CoQ-10 in cells are also linked to having deep wrinkles and facial lines.
Alpha-hydroxy acids
AHAs are primarily used to exfoliate. While there’s a wide variety of AHAs out there, glycolic and lactic acids are the most effective. These acids help shed off dead skin cells and promote rejuvenation. It also aids in collagen production which makes your skin look plump and smooth.
So, there you have it! Being aware of what goes into your skincare products and how these ingredients affect your body is the best way to ensure that you’re taking proper care of your skin.

OMG, LOVE! - Fall and Winter
What better time to finally find a little time to gather my faves from the past few months than on the first snowed in day of the season? Rounded up a little bit of this and a little bit of that while I’ve been writing Christmas (and one Hanukkah) cards and watching no less than four Netflix Christmas movies. I hope you enjoy!
Beauty and Fashion:
Essence Brighten Up! Banana Powder - I am OBSESSED with this powder! I use it to both set and brighten up under my eyes, chin and forehead. It is super smoothing and soft, and it’s such a bargain! I usually stock up when Ulta has the entire Essence brand for Buy One Get One 50% off.
Great Lakes Collagen Protein - The packaging isn’t the cutest, but I am seriously convinced that this collagen protein powder is making my eyelashes grow! I add two heaping teaspoons to my coffee in the morning and you can’t even taste it at all, plus I’m getting some added protein to start my day, which definitely isn’t a bad thing. This brand is almost half the price of Vital Proteins and on Amazon prime - score!
Pink Velvet Scrunchie - Scrunchies are baaaack and this pink velvet one from Target is so cute and only $4.99!
It's a 10 Miracle Oil plus Keratin - This hair oil is totally worth the hype - it smells amazing and you only need a little for a great smooth and shiny result.
Lifestyle:
Warby Parker Louise Wide Glasses in Birch Tortoise - Earlier this fall I tried Warby Parker’s at Home Try On program for a new pair of reading glasses and was so impressed with the brand, quality and experience! My glasses came quickly and their customer service was top notch. I have the Louise Wide style in Birch Tortoise - kind of a dark blue and khaki mix - and I love them!
Dyson V7 Motorhead in Fuchsia - And now we enter the section of an OMG, LOVE! post in which I obsess about something Chrissy (and her mom) introduced me to. If loving your vacuum is wrong then I don’t want to be right. This thing is AWESOME. It’s cordless, bagless, comes with a ton of great attachments and seamlessly goes from carpet to hard flooring. It’s hands down one of my best purchases in a long, long time. Ugh, I’m so 30.
Apple iPhone XS Max and Heyday Print Case - I may or may not have had a bit of a mid-life crisis yolo moment and upgraded to the iPhone XS Max. #NoRagrets It’s incredible (FaceID 4life) and I love the Heyday case I picked up for it at Target! Heyday is a newer brand at Target and has super cute Apple accessories like iPhone cases and iWatch bands that are really affordable.
Mpow 059 Over Ear Bluetooth Headphones - I’ve been in the market for some over the ear wireless headphones for a bit and gave these a try after reading all of the positive reviews on Amazon. Bonus - they were $39.99! The quality and comfort for the price is crazy, I love that I can use them wired in with the included headphone jack, or charge them up to use as a wireless bluetooth connection. Perfect for at my work desk and traveling on a plane - a great gift for anyone that needs new head phones!
Food and Bevies:
Cuisinart Griddler - My brother Patrick inspired this purchase and I’m so happy with it! You can use it as an indoor grill, griddler, panini press and a waffle maker (I bought the waffle grates separately). It has a drain that catches excess grease and is really easy to clean - the grates are dishwasher safe!
Mrs. Anderson's Non-Stick Silicone Baking Mat - This silicone baking mat is a great alternative to parchment paper that you can use over and over again! It’s heat safe up to 480°F and you don’t need to use any added oil or nonstick cooking spray - win!
Trader Joe’s Pizza Crust - Rebecca and I tried this on a whim while she was visiting and I’ve bought them no joked five more times since! You get two flatbreads in a package and can top them with whatever you like. We did a pesto/feta on one and pepperoni/green pepper/mozzarella on the other - they are soooo good!
Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie - If you’re looking for a show-stopping dessert to bring to an upcoming holiday party, look no further than this baby right here! It is so, so easy and SO, SO good! The crust consists of canned cinnamon rolls and yes that is as good (probably even better) as it sounds. Definitely suggest reading the comments and taking the advice to bake the bottom crust for about 5-7 minutes before adding the filling. Give this a try, you won’t regret it!
Entertainment:
TCL Smart 4K Roku TV - Yooooo I got a new TV and it’s so dope! My sweet, sweet friends upgraded me and I’m over here livin’ in 2030 with this 4K smart beauty!
New Amsterdam on NBC - Out of all the shows that started this fall, New Amsterdam is definitely one of my favorites! It’s kind of a mix between a Grey’s Anatomy and a Law and Order type vibe and riiiight up my alley.
youtube
Old Dominion - Hotel Key - This song is the jaaaam, I’ve got it on repeat!
Brett Eldredge Glow (Deluxe Edition) - I’ve been fangirling over Brett Eldredge for awhile now and his Christmas album - Glow - is no exception. It has both the classics and some new originals that will definitely get you into the holiday spirit.
What have you been loving lately? What are you wishing for this holiday season? Share it with me on Twitter and Instagram @brit_kotary using #OmgLove!

8 Must-Have Skincare Products.
Let’s talk skin.
The older I get the more I recognize the importance of caring for it. I have tried countless products and read a variety of blogs and books about how to properly care for my skin and prevent it from aging. The reality is we can’t prevent aging. Gravity and environment will ultimately leave it’s mark, but we can help age it gracefully.
Before I could address the surface of my skin I needed to start from the inside. One of the key players in changing my skin was drinking more water. I try to drink 4, 32oz bottles of water a day. Yes, it’s a lot, and yes, I’m running to the bathroom about every 30 minutes, but trust me…it has improved not only my skin but my digestion, sleep, and energy levels. I love this water bottle because it keeps my water nice and chilled for hours.
Second in my skin arsenal is Collagen Peptides. This magic powder enhances hair, skin, and nails, improves digestion, and boosts joint health. I put a scoop of this in my morning smoothie or afternoon protein shake. They say you can have it hot or cold. Mixed in anything, or just along with water. I don’t recommend the powder with only water, the taste to me was rather unpleasant.
Third is Moringa Leaf Powder. There are almost too many benefits to list (click here for the whole enchilada of info), but I’ll list the immediate benefits I noticed. Almost right away felt a shift in my energy levels. As a (fairly) new mom, I’m still not getting the recommended amount of sleep at night. I also noticed an improvement in my hair strength as well because the green goodness helps aid in keratin development. Lastly, was the drastic change I saw in my fine lines and wrinkles. I believe this is due to the activity on free radicals as stated on their site. Added bonus, they also say that Moringa Leaf Powder can help with weight loss.
My last recommendation for improving skin’s health from the inside out is biotin. Most of us know that biotin supports hair, skin, and nail growth. I really like this brand because the coconut oil softgel casing helps with fast absorption and presents no funny after taste. You only take one a day and you’re good to go. Love love love this product! Also, the price isn’t bad either at less than $15 a bottle and free shipping through Amazon Prime.
Now on to the external products.
First I start with my cleanser, key to less flaky dry skin is to turn the water temp down. You’re just drying out that gorgeous mug. This cleanser is a milk cleanser so it’s gentle and works fantastic with my aging combination skin. My favorite is to use the milk cleanser with my Clarisonic. If you don’t have one, no biggie, just gently massage into your skin with your fingertips.
Next I prep my skin with this toner. Beauty Water is AMAZING! Seriously I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It works great to remove all makeup, oil, and dirt left behind by your cleanser. Some mornings I don’t have time to cleanse my face, so I just use this. It softens your face and prepares it for the steps to come.
After my toner, I like to include something that’s going to give back to my skin. During the day I add this Vitamin C Serum. It’s like a tall glass of delicious OJ for your face. Yummmy. But seriously vitaman C serum helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also boosts collagen production, firms skin, and will help with any age spots. Say whattttt?! Yeah. It does ALL of what it claims. You’d think for such a high performer the price would be steep. Not one bit. I purchased this bottle for under $20 currently on sale from $40. Stock up my friends, you’re going to love it.
Cleanse check, tone check, serum check now it’s time to hydrate! I’ve tried countless moisturizers, but this cream is hands down my favorite. Not only does the moisturizer hydrate my skin, but I feel it’s more radiant as well. Kind of like a built-in all over highlighter….oooooh la la.
My evening routine is nearly the same as my morning’s. All I do is swap out the Vitamin C Serum with this gorgeous rose oil from Korres. After about 4 weeks of using the oil I noticed a change in how soft my skin was, the elasticity and overall texture, and got rid of any dullness. I will warn anyone who is sensitive to scent. You will not like this product due to the overbearing rose smell. It has never bothered me however.
I understand we are inundated daily on how to treat our skin and with what. I will tell you that in my 32 years, I’ve tried many products and these thus far are my favorite. Each one of them plays a role in keeping my skin vibrant and youthful. I can’t wait to hear what you all think! Tell me your skincare secrets in the comments!

Remember a few posts back when I was talking about a product that has changed my skin? This is it! The @neocell Beauty Infusion Refreshing Collagen Drink mix was the boost I didn’t know my skin desperately needed. I’ve tried a couple of other supplement products from the brand that I loved too, the Keratin Hair Volumizer + Derma Matrix, but with Beauty Infusion I’ve seen the quickest and best results. ◌ The morning after my first use, I noticed I had brighter/glowing skin with a more even complexion. ◌ with a few days, my energy and focus improved, acne hyper pigmentation was healing quickly, and skin looked supple. ◌ After a week, my fine smile lines began to plump back up and I began to see new hair growth. ◌2 weeks later, I’m still benefiting from all of the above, my skin feels much more hydrated, nails are growing quickly, and my joints feel noticeably better. Basically, I’m hooked! The one I have in Tangerine Twist has a great taste when mixed with water and is full of quality ingredients such as Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, and Biotin that make these results possible. If you’re interested in trying this too, you can purchase @neocell products at CVS, Bed Bath & Beyond, GNC, and Sams Club to name a few. I highly recommend Beauty Infusion, but do read all ingredients and consult with your healthcare professional before incorporating any supplements to your diet. I’m not a doctor or nutritionist but I do know it is working amazingly for me and that I hope others can benefit from this too! ⋮ ⋮ ⋮ #neocell #collagendrink #skincareaddict #glowingskin #beautytalk #beautyinfusion #goodskin #beautyblogger #beautygirl #beautysecret

MSM | The Acne Killer
How MSM may be the acne solution you’re looking for
MSM and Acne
If you’ve ever suffered with acne, you know all too well that it is a really hard ailment to fix. You’ve tried it all…from baking soda to Proactive. In the beginning, you notice improvement and then all of a sudden, it’s not working anymore. It’s almost like you’ve grown immune to it. Or it is causing you to break out even more and then you hear, “oh, it’s gotta bring the bumps out first”. What? I always wondered was that true. The jury is still out on that.
One of the most consistent acne remedies that I’ve come across is MSM (or methylsulfonylmethane). MSM is also an ingredient in our Advanced Facial Serum.
What is MSM?
MSM is a sulfur which naturally occurs in fresh fruit and vegetables. Sulfur is perhaps one of the most important nutrients required by our bodies as it is present in the amino acids which are in turn the basic building blocks of protein. It’s no big secret that MSM is awesome for hair, but how is it for skin?
How does MSM help clear acne
Here are a few ways:
1. Provides our skin with what it needs to be healthy and beautiful
Sulfur is needed for the production of keratin and collagen, which are both proteins that are necessary for healthy skin. Taking MSM along with vitamin C boosts it’s benefits and potency.
2. Cleansing & detoxing the body
MSM is a great detox. If you’re new to this remedy, please consult with your family physician first to confirm if you have a sulfur allergy. MSM is a strong detoxifier, so if you’re taking this supplement, start slow at first and then increase your dosage. I remember the first time that I took this supplement, I felt so energized and alert! I was shocked as to how naturally good I felt! I felt like a better me. I initially started taking it for hair growth, but surprise, surprise! It helps keep acne at bay too!
3. How Exactly does MSM detox
MSM considerably increases the permeability of your cells which means that it increases cells capability of flushing out excess fluids and toxins.
This mechanism has a very important detoxifying effect, making way for essential nutrients into your system and thereby improving the overall functioning of your cell membranes…which is great for keeping skin healthy and glowing.
4. MSM is also a anti-inflammatory
When whiteheads and blackheads turn into acne and become inflamed, then it becomes an inflammatory condition. MSM will help calm these inflammations.
How to use MSM
Internally:
I prefer to use the powder because I like to mix it with a Vitamin C. Using the powder also allows me to easily change the dosage levels.
This is the drink that I make twice a day:
⦁ 1 cup of hot water (Note: Make sure that your water is hot so that the MSM totally dilutes).
⦁ About 5 drops of lemon or lime juice. Or you can squeeze a fresh lemon in your mixture if you prefer.
⦁ 1 teaspoon of honey
⦁ 1/4–1/2 teaspoon of MSM for every cup of water. (Remember to slowly build up as the detoxification effects are powerful)
I drink this drink every morning and early evening. I don’t suggest that you drink this drink before going to bed as it will more than likely keep you up all night. MSM increases alertness. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. :-)
Externally:
MSM is also effective used externally. If you’re serious about getting rid of your acne or are trying to get rid of scarring, then I recommend you use MSM both internally and externally.
Here is a simple recipe you can make at home:
⦁ 3 teaspoons of MSM powder
⦁ 1 cup of water (make sure it’s hot so that the MSM can dilute)
⦁ optional (you can use Aloe Vera gel instead of water if you prefer)
NOTE: I add my mixture in a spray bottle and just spray it on my face. To moisturize, I use about a quarter size amount of Raw Shea Butter about a quarter size amount of organic unrefined coconut oil.
Aloe Vera has great healing properties. It contains two powerful hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in Aloe Vera acts as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally while reducing scarring. So opting to add this to powerful ingredient to your mixture would be a wonderful addition.
Is MSM for you
If you are suffering from acne or just need a body cleanser, then I recommend MSM. It worked for me and it may work for you.
Go Ahead, talk to your provider, and take the MSM plunge. Comment and let us know what you think.
MSM is an ingredient in most of the Artlessly Beautiful Natural Skin Care Collection.

A involving months again, one particular of my team members arrived up to me and talked about this product she observed round the web Lifecell cream. Prior to I get to the scale all the characteristics I aware of this merchandise, I can notify she was a really perfect illustration of clean skin and youthful glow. She was somewhere close to 20-eight or twenty-9. I assumed she is merely producing up stuff regarding merchandise that barefoot running presents flawlessly Youthful Skin at hugely cost-effective selling price with no facet- effects at nearly. What I could assume was this particular fine lady either has plenty energy for attractiveness salon therapies or she puts on tons of make-up. So if being proactive is exciting workout policy, how come there plenty of discussion? The correct answer is quite easy; many specialists feel how the skin care market has been taken regarding by so many wrinkle cream companies, when there are natural solutions available.
