I'm reading the lord of the rings and I'm once again amazed at how... good most characters are. Like, they are genuinely good people. They are a bunch of kindhearted, gracious, caring people, coming together under adverse circumstances and trying to figure things out and find a solution and support each other through it all. Like Frodo and Sam meet Faramir and Faramir is a bit suspicious at first and kind of implies Frodo may be a spy, and then when he hears his story and he's like Frodo, I pressed you so hard at first. Forgive me! It was unwise in such an hour and place. And this blows.my.mind. He wasn't even particularly mean or threatening to him in the beginning, he's just such a kind, considerate man, recognizing the kindness and honesty of another man. And they're all like that. Even Gollum starts slowly changing (for a short while) when he encounters Frodo because that's the thing about kindness and humility and grace, they are contagious. They transform people, even a creature like Gollum cannot be immune to that. Like, you may consider all this simple and basic and I get it but, hear me out. It is quite rare to see that in modern media and it is also pretty difficult to pull off in a way that is not corny and simplistic. It is mind blowing that you actually don't have to present the entire palette of human cruelty and vice in order to tell a compelling story, contrary to popular belief. Lotr does the exact opposite, and it is just beautiful and it warms my heart. Especially taking into consideration tolkien's pretty grim growing-up experience, him being a double orphan without a home, raised between an orphanage and a priest and having no family apart from his brother and then the war and then he almost dies and then he's poor as hell and then a second war and it all makes sense somehow. He writes to his wife who is also an orphan two days before the marriage "the next few years will bring us joy and content and love and sweetness such as could not be if we hadn't first been two homeless children and had found one another after long waiting" and, yes, yes! The love and sweetness just radiate from his work, the entire lotr series is a little radiant bubble of hope and love and grace that he imagined in his head to deal with a dismal reality and then he just gave that to the world, and isn't that what imagination and art is all about after all?

My understandings of what Primarchs are currently alive and dead, what their status' are: Loyalists: Leman Russ: Running butt ass naked in the Warp, if the armour if any indication. Probably a Wulfen and horribly mutated like Corvus. Possibly could be fine. Chances very slim for him not be a mutated wolf thing with viking braids. Anyway his sons are mildly disturbed by the armour they keep finding Lion: Alive and pissed. Commits so many war crimes behind Guilliman's back. May or may not be making it his personal goal to give Guilliman as many grey hairs as possible. Roboute Guilliman: Stressed and thinks humans can't rule themselves. Asshole. Needs a break and to actually spend time with humans and actually thinking about the fact it's been ten thousand fucking years. That's impressive for an empire. Corvus Corax: Fucked up bird man in the warp. Probably learning that feathers suck to get blood out of and questioning how the fuck his white winged brother kept his feathers so fucking clean even though said brother routinely caused blood baths in life. Has probably pecked someone to death. Vulkan: Probably alive. Somewhere. Might actually be in a volcano somewhere. His death goes against his lore so who knows what the fuck is going on here. Jaghatai Khan: Also in the warp, has no idea where the fuck he is and isn't stopping for directions. Honestly he's actually existed the warp couple of times he was going so fucking fast. Probably also slowly getting mutated. Might be fine though. Probably passed a naked Leman a couple of times and is really confused by the fucked up bird thing calling itself Corvus. Rogal Dorn: Could be dead, could have a sick ass prosthetic hand. No idea what's going on with him. Sanguinius: Incredibly dead. Probably a good thing that he is. Otherwise he'd probs be a traitor primarch too with the Imperium in its current state- Ferrus Manus: Also very dead. Probably was seething mad at being killed by Fulgrim. Very likely died seething mad. Traitors: Fulgrim: Is a four armed winged snake thing. Having mad sex and doing way too many drugs. Probably also eating a lot too. And then sleeping it off because snake. Has a chunky boyfriend if Tumblr is to be believed. Magnus: Trying to rebuild, also an arrogant prick. I support him even if he's a dick. If only because what happened to Prospero was a travesty of the highest order. You go my weird rainbow nipple horned demon prince. What is your obsession with titty horns??? Mortarion: Depressed but has family. Is infected with diseases that are probably not even invented yet. Probably also not a skinny rail of a man anymore courtesy of Papa Nurgle who is a better dad then the Emperor ironically. Probably can't stand to look himself in the Mirror. Angron: Angy, so very angy. And obsessed with blood. Even if he wasn't immortal by virtue of being a demon prince, he'd probably be too angry to die. Not entirely sure if this is actually better then being dead. Lorgar: Not entirely sure, but I assume he's somewhere in the warp spreading the word of chaos like some sort of messed up anti jesus or something.

Alpharius /Omegon: One's dead, the other is alive. Which twin died and which one is alive is a damn good question. Possibly neither are even dead. Absolute bastards (affectionate). Perterabo: Grumpy old man wanting to be left alone and forge. He yearns for it. Mostly content to just make stuff and burn his skin off. Good things he's a demon now I guess. Go make stuff, have a hobby that's kinda healthy. Sort of. Konrad: Pretty dead. Saw it happen and let it happen. Probably for the best because dear god this man as a demon prince is terrifying. Horus: Also very dead. Might actually be even more dead then Sanguinius considering Horus' soul was probably destroyed.

jayroy is so good to me for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones is that they r both full of each other's triggers. it's insane how like. their traumas have the potential to directly impact each other. except they just. don't. for the most part they're just two really good bros. it's got so much potential and if dc ever got around to writing a jason story that wasn't dogshit, it could be a really good story. alas.

Mouthwashing is genuinely one of the first fandom spaces in a while where I’ve seen people outright refuse to curate their own personal spaces and try to shame people for not making what they personal like/believe

Like this is not saying ignore any issues that come up or whatever is serious but like on the general terms of just not interacting with things that are not your personal take or interpretation, a genuine refusal to just look at and create things that you like.

Constantly seeing people repost art without credit to shit talk it and excusing it because “well it’s bad cause insert deeply personal and not actually a valid justification”, calling out people for silly comics or differing interpretations. Its not just a holier than thou mindset it’s just a weird hatred for things not specifically catered to you or your view point at this point and like it’s seriously the case of just follow and like what you want to see and block, mute or whatever doesn’t fit it.

Take this out of context all you like, but I just so odd to me to try and force people to interpret and engage with a media that is supposed to be purposefully vague and open in certain areas. Or just be mad that people like to play with and explore the characters outside the story, in different settings or with twists in events.

Like why is it an issue that someone is having fun with the game in a different way than you?

So I'm replaying Ray's After ending rn, and it got me thinking that what I adore so much about Rika as an antagonist is just how damn scary she can be. I always found those who cause harm with good intentions (at least in their point of view) much scarier than those who hurt you with pure intention on hurting you. I think the best example of it is this CG in particular:

Look at that. Such a loving, gentle expression on her face. Probably kissing his forehead. Because she loves him. Heck, without any context, this CG looks even sweet, if you think about it. And yet, all that is while Saeyoung is forcefully sedated on a powerful concoction of drugs even a trained agent like him can't do anything about (and Saeyoung WAS definitely trained to deal with this sort of thing, hence it's mentioned that this is a 'special' kind of drugs). He looks miserable. Bags under his eyes, his expression pained and troubled, even his hair is paler than usual. All that as a direct result of her actions. But she's utterly blind to it. What's scarier, is that she knowingly shuts off her understanding of what's really happening. She's not oblivious to it at all. She just chooses not to see it that way. Simply because she doesn't want to.

Rika is the type of antagonist that will cup your cheek into her warm hand with the most loving of smiles on her face, all while you are getting elixir poured down your throat. Even whispering to you that you're doing great, that the pain will soon pass, and that she can't wait to see you reach the happiness she knows you deserve. I won't be surprised if she even cried genuine tears of compassion during some ceremonies for her believers. All while being the sole reason behind their suffering.

And that's... God, that's terrifying to me. I love that about her.

It took me a long time but I finally caught up with free! and remembered why Tachibana makoto is the man of my dreams. But on my watch I realized as it went on Makoto and Souske interact a bit more post Eternal Summer?? The chemistry they have is actually really sweet… and flows naturally well. although it’s def not as much as I would like… here’s why Tachibana Makoto and Yamazaki Sousuke are actually kind of perfect for each other? Sorry it got way longer than I meant it to be LOL

They balance each other out 

Makoto’s sweet, clumsy gentleness complements Sousuke’s no-nonsense, grounded demeanor. Makoto’s kind and nurturing nature has a way of softening Sousuke’s tough exterior and easing his tension, while Sousuke’s firm, straightforward attitude helps ground Makoto, counteracting his tendency to overthink and shoulder everyone else’s feelings.

Together, they create a dynamic that is equal parts comforting and steadying, bringing out the best in each other.

They naturally look out for each other 

Makoto looking out for Sousuke’s shoulder even though he barely knew the guy back in eternal summer. Plus the most precious sweetheart face when he finds out sousuke's shoulder was a success.... if sousuke say that face he'd grumble and be like "don't make such a big deal out of it..." but would appreciate how happy makoto was....

Even helping Sousuke with rehab hello?? i'm going to talk about that more later but it's very fitting the person who was worried about sousuke's shoulder gets to be the one to help him too!

In the Final Stroke part 2 Sousuke is telling Haru Makoto is worried for him. One, probably to tell Haru to chill out and relax, but two because Haru should know that Makoto being worried means Makoto is worried. It’s Makoto for Christ sake. And Sousuke’s probably spent enough time with the guy to know how much he thinks about Haru. Sousuke is telling Haru this for both Makoto and Haru’s benefits. 

Unfortunately this is not part of the show/movies but part of the coco’s 2021 collab is short but shows why those makoto and sousuke balance so well. Natsuya asks Makoto to help him recruit 8 people for the summer cafe. Makoto was able to recruit two people, but he didn’t want to bother the others because they had swim practice. So the guy tries to work an understaffed cafe himself!! Sousuke, who sees poor Makoto frantic about hiring people who APPROACHES Makoto and he’s like “hey let me help you out.” And volunteers his time!! BUT he’s also like “and I’ll ask rin too Makoto. Why don’t you ask Haru?” And makoto’s all worried about them having practice. But practical Sousuke is just like “why don’t we just ask? It won’t hurt.” (source)

I think here…. Sousuke’s levelheadedness was able to calm Makoto and find a solution that works better for him. Sousuke noticed that Makoto was about self sacrifice (YET AGAIN) but Sousuke came with a new solution since Makoto was thinking about everyone’s feelings again instead of thinking about his own wellbeing!! 

Here Sousuke is both looking out for Makoto AND balancing him out. All while finding a solution that doesn’t make makoto sacrifice himself.

They admire and respect each other

Makoto, when he first saw Sousuke at the garden, they talk about Sousuke getting surgery and going back into swimming. To swim somewhere amazing because Sousuke just spilled his dreams to Makoto on the rooftop (romantic). Makoto calls Sousuke amazing because wow… going back into swimming and working hard. And Sousuke doesn’t even know how to react because Makoto gave him such a genuine compliment to the point where Makoto even challenges him.

And then Sousuke immediately asks him out on a date out to eat, basically LOL.

Sousuke’s admirations are unfortunately not in the anime either but these desktop chibis where Sousuke compliments makoto in ALL of them and makoto does not know how to respond to said compliments. Sousuke's looking at Makoto's muscles, his strength in swimming, and his shooting skills:

Sousuke – “Hah, you’re pretty good at this, Makoto.” Makoto – “I have some confidence in gunshooting games.” Sousuke – “Makoto, your swimming style is pretty wild.” Makoto – “Huh? Is that so? I can’t really tell myself…” Sousuke – “Makoto, you have really nice muscles, what kind of training do you do?” Makoto – “Umm… somehow my body just seems to build muscles easily.” (Source)

Sousuke calling Makoto big. Idk about you but from an athlete, that’s a compliment. LOL. But when Rei calls Makoto gentle, Sousuke says that a guy who swims with that hungry of a swimming style should not be called gentle. From an athlete who loves swimming... that's def a compliment LOL. (source)

As Nao says Makoto is actually prudent, daring, stubborn, competitive and inhibitive. Which is the surprising/not gentle side of Makoto Sousuke is probably talking about with Haru. (source)

And Sousuke a competitive guy. He appreciates other competitive guys lol. I think Sousuke is quite pleased at Makoto's competitive drive.

They watch out for each other 

Makoto literally takes Sousuke through rehab after his surgery. He trains him, takes his swim times, does whatever coaches do at a pool idk 

Also in Coco's 2021, Makoto offers to do the dishes since Sousuke cooked a lot and Sousuke tells him NOT TO HURT HIMSELF CAUSE HE KNOWS MAKOTO IS CLUMSY HES JUST WASHING THE DISHES BUT HONESTLY SSK’S RIGHT…. Makoto needs someone to watch out for him… he’s a hazard sometimes… Showing Sousuke being worried about makoto's clumsiness AGAIN

Makoto thanks Sousuke for pushing him to ask more people and sousuke’s like “well if it’s just you Makoto everyone will worry” and makoto’s like “oh is it because I’m unreliable…?”

And Sousuke's like “you’re always doing the utmost for people Makoto. It’s that they couldn’t leave you alone, you know.” (source). Sousuke…….. are you talking for yourself….. the ever observant Sousuke notices the Makoto who’s always doing stuff for others volunteers and helps him get more people……. He couldn't stand watching makoto be all stressed out... Showing how sousuke's level headedness eases a frazzled Makoto and helped him find a solution!! (Like a good boyfriend LOLOL) 

During Haru's race Sousuke noticed how worried Makoto is for Haru. He verbally tells Makoto to relax and lets him know that he's not alone in his feelings! But also noticing how worried Makoto was in the first place... Also look how cute they are in their official matching Mizuno jackets... (source)

They would be such sweethearts to each other but still be able to challenge each other

Those two work hard to look out for others and the people they love… of course they would look out for each other too… 

Makoto I bet is so patient during rehab. He helped Sousuke bring his shoulder back into shape and had him swim on a national team. To swim with rin again. Sousuke knows how much makoto’s helped him. And that boy does not take friendship for granted.

I can’t help but to be so happy that makoto who was worried for him back in season two got to heal him and bring Sousuke back to his dream at the end (?) of the series. All while finding a dream for himself and coach professional swimmers! Which he’s very good at by the way!! So so proud of Coach Tachibana 😭😭 and Makoto puts them boys to work he's got Sousuke and Hiyori sweating

I wish this got longer scenes cause it’s such a pivotal moments in BOTH their careers but it was like “teach me how you move your body, makoto!” And makoto’s just like “of course!” 

They would be so funny 

They went bunny plushy shopping together for Kisumi's birthday, can you imagine what they even talked about? (source)They would probably take forever choosing one cause Makoto would try to think about what Kisumi would want and Sousuke’s like let’s choose any. And they bicker about it in the aisle and eventually Makoto wins cause of course the bunny has to be extra special. It’s a present, it has to seem like you thought about him! And Sousuke grumbles and picks the one that looks like Kisumi or something LOL

Sousuke cooks and Makoto is canonically bad at cooking/handling the kitchen. When they ate nabe with rin and haru sousuke saw the mushrooms and were like “why do these look like they were cut by demons…” and makoto’s all flustered and talking about how bad he was at cutting and then makoto says he made dessert. And Sousuke’s like oh wow is this tuna surimi?! It looks delicious! And Makoto’s like… actually it’s strawberry jello…. And Sousuke’s like…. "…. Sorry." (source)

When they went to the cake buffet (source) and makoto grabbed all those cakes and Sousuke’s like “you eat a lot…” because he’s so stunned how many cakes Makoto grabbed LOLOL my sweet tooth loving Makoto…. I bet they would go on cafe dates all the time…  oh wait they do… with all their friends 🤣 they most def went by themselves before 

Two people who have an intense amount of loyalty to their best friend… wishing to be the one that makes him have the drive he has… to be the one to save him…

Makoto’s love for Haru and Sousuke love for Rin are the two most important relationships in free! …. After Haru and Rin’s relationship. And that’s just what the series is. The competitive relationship between Haru and Rin. But here it leaves Makoto and Sousuke who love their friends with all their hearts, yearning for…? Someone to see them as an equal…? Idk what it is but that’s kyoani’s fault for not letting Sousuke and Makoto share the screen for more than 60 seconds at a time

I just rewatched the first final stroke movie. I can't believe makoto and sousuke both say such sweet and motivational words to haru and rin respectively together at the end credits!! Talking about how much they love and appreciate their them and the friendship that they have... I'm convinced Makoto made Sousuke do that omg LOLOL

Last point: Sousuke can probably carry Makoto. Or Makoto can carry Sousuke. Or both. I’m pretty sure both. They both deserve that for each other, congratulations to the happy couple!

Bonus: i'm pretty sure these two coordinated this attack on rin and haru. They're already doing couple hijinx...

Usually stoic to the point where it frightened people how statuesque he could be, today Azriel couldn’t make himself stand still as he kept a keen eye on the airport escalator.

He was shuffling his feet, shifting up on his toes and back down again - a nervous action he must’ve picked up from Feyre. His hands were in and out of his pockets, his palms weirdly itchy.

He thought maybe he should’ve brought flowers if only to have something to do with his hands but they were headed straight to Nesta and Cassian’s for the weekend and the mere idea of having to explain why he’d brought Elain flowers for a simple airport pickup was enough to give him a headache.

Its Odette Time! this is a slightly late submission for the ptutu aspec week prompt ‘Courage’. its a redraw/reframing of one of my FAVORITE shots in the show, the s1 finale pas de deux lift, seen under the cut.

now, you may be wondering, "nyan, who the hell is odette?" and. well. thats on me i havent actually posted her to tumblr yet. partially bc odettes main design is made by my brother, partially bc im not sure the people will like her, shes on my artfight (nyanbinary87) if you have that, but if you dont, the TLDR is that shes mytho AND tutu. like, post-finale, if the "the pendant was a heart shard" was more literal and transgender.

but hold on, this is ASPEC week, not trans week! why is she here? well, its up to the mods if this is okayed as a submission, since odette is primarily a trans headcanon of mine. but, she is Also aspec, and this piece aims to emphasize that aspect of her. see, one of my favorite things about odette is how she completely reframes mytho and tutus relationship from a semi-romantic one to one of self love. theres something so beautiful in your true self putting together your false self because she only wants your happiness, even if it means her disappearance.

to emphasize that, this tutu takes on a form less like duck's tutu form. she borrows elements from my brothers odette design, which is basically siegfrieds design on a dress, as well as dropping elements from duck to favor the actual swan lake odette, particularly in the hair.

I Saw the TV Glow -- and it showed me Destiel parallels

It's been days and I still cannot stop thinking about I Saw the TV Glow. I keep rotating thoughts of it in comparison to SPN in my mind, but not in the obvious way of their lives essentially being a TV show / god's favorite show, because in SPN there isn't a split sense of reality. The TV show IS their lives, but they are not separate from themselves, looking in on their true selves. And unlike in the film, the TV show aspect of their lives is the falsehood, what we see of SPN as audience members is heavily filtered and censored, ghostfacers effect, etc, and their true reality exists beneath the show itself. While in the film the "real world" is the falsehood and the TV show is their true reality and true selves.

But anyway, what I keep rotating around, the parallels that keep gripping me, revolve around Cas and Heaven's manipulations and use of brainwashing, simulation, and illusions. Cas and Owen parallel in the sense that they are continuously both kept from knowing their True Feelings, and then their best friend helps them unlock those feelings / the Truth.

Owen, as a child, is kept from watching The Pink Opaque because it has the power to unlock the truth about his identity. He is then introduced to The Pink Opaque by his later-friend, Maddy. This begins to unlock feelings in him that he doesn't quite understand yet or have a name for. When the truth about the show is revealed to him and he unlocks those memories of his past and his true self he is then taken by a parent to have the memories purged as he screams (hello Naomi lobotomies).

Similarly, Cas has been kept from remembering his feelings toward humanity. He has always been the broken angel, the one with a crack in his chassis (and hello the imagery at the end of the film of Owen cracking himself open and letting the light spill out!) When Cas declares, "For the first time, I feel" this isn't necessarily a true statement. This is not the first time he has felt emotions for humanity, it is not the first time he has contemplated rebellion or had doubts, or had feelings period. We learn later that Cas has always had this rebellious streak and has been the subject of routine lobotomies his whole life. He was made to forget. Made to forget his past, his true rebellious self, the fact that he is capable of free will. But Dean becomes his link and anchor to humanity, and through Dean Cas rediscovers his feelings and his identity. Dean also introduces him to the world of humanity in a real way, rather than how Cas has been experiencing it for billions of years, detached as a mere spectator. Dean therefore presents both Maddy and the show The Pink Opaque itself. It's also significant to me that much of Dean and Cas's relationship revolves around Dean teaching him pop culture things. Cas doesn't get the reference. Dean holds the keys to pop culture knowledge and educates Cas, much like how Maddy introduces Owen to The Pink Opaque. Dean and Cas also spend a lot of time off camera watching TV together. Dean shows him Tombstone. They have weekly family movie nights where they are all subjected to The Lost Boys up to 36 times (and counting!).

While what Maddy helps Owen unlock is his own feelings about his gender and identity, Dean helps unlock Cas's very human feelings, his sexuality, and remind him of his own free will and rebellious nature. Through Dean, Cas comes to love and care about humanity deeper than he has before, but he always had the capacity for this love, he was simply made to forget and kept from connecting to humanity on this deeper level.

Then there are the parallels within The Pink Opaque. Tara (Maddy, Dean) and Isabel (Owen, Cas) share a profound kind of bond. They are linked, psychically and must fight "the man in the moon", Mr. Melancholy, who sends supernatural threats to their world to wreak havoc and suffering. His ultimate goal is to trap them in the "Midnight Realm" where they are asleep and suffocating, unaware of their true selves (the world Maddy and Owen live in). I see both parallels to Chuck and the Empty in Mr. Melancholy. As Mr. Melancholy despises Tara and Isabel for the power of their connection, Chuck too despises Dean and Cas's connection and love, which proves to be the one thing he can't control, the two of them thwarting his plans from the start. The Empty also has it out for them, specifically Cas, who she wishes to put to sleep forever in punishment for disrupting her world. The Empty is a place of eternal sleep and darkness, where you are left to dream forever, which is reminiscent of the Midnight Realm. (I am also thinking about the finale and Fake Heaven and Chuck Won Theories and Heaven being a part of Destiel's Midnight Realm. Dean locked away in Heaven, Cas locked away in the Empty--until I SEE Cas I will always be skeptical about him being "out" of the Empty--both separated from each other, unable to reconnect because together they are a threat to Chuck, just how Tara and Isabel are separated and put in graves to suffocate to prevent them from defeating Mr. Melancholy.

Finally, thinking about a few other symbols and imagery from the film. Such as how in order to be "lulled" to sleep in the Midnight Realm one of the first steps is to cut out the victim's heart. The person is still alive, but this integral part of them is missing and they are weaker without it. It reminds me of Cas having his grace forcefully cut out by Metatron and being cast down to Earth, forced to live without a piece of himself, a part of him that is so tied to his identity. I am also thinking about Dean's heart repeatedly being threatened throughout the series. Billie targeting his heart. Dean symbolically losing his heart when Cas is taken by the Empty. Dean left to go on without Cas, losing hope without his heart, suffocating and ending up dead and in a fake world (Heaven).

Another image that stuck with me and immediately reminded me of Cas is at the end of the film when Owen cracks himself open and finally acknowledges the truths about himself he's been repressing and ignoring his whole life; he looks into the mirror and smiles. He experiences a moment of joy and peace. The expression reminds me of Cas standing beatific after his declaration of love. The light shining on his face, his moment of truth, this moment where he gives himself permission to be happy and acknowledge these feelings. However, for Owen this is a hopeful first step, for Cas it is seemingly the end of his story. But! There Is Still Time. For Cas and Dean. For Owen. For all of us.
