My parents left a third world country For a country with third rate morals. I am no better than this country. I am this country . I know I lay and sleep In all that I ignore, In all that I see around me, And do nothing about. I know that our immigrant parents want us to live. There aren't enough tears to wash away the blood on these streets , fermented in our soil, lined in our money. How many people have to die? How much more blood of a black person do we need to prove that they are human? How much blood from a uniform to prove they are not invincible? Two houses not alike in dignity, but nah- More than two houses, more than dignity, this is fucking real life. I will not keep on relying on My ancestors for answers i have to find for myself. My children do not have to carry my anger. My hate. I want to breed actions of love and compassion. Can justice even look like something that doesn't break my heart ? Can Education and compassion be guidance in pursuit of something unlike today and yesterday? Harmony and peace sound like fables or a holiday figure that only children believe in. What are we doing to each other? How does God decide whose lives to use for us to wake up? Whose lives are chosen for us to get justice? I think of people I love on this land. I think of dreams I have on this land. I think of people I've never met on this land as I. Save this country I want to stay. Save this country I want to stay. Save this country I want to stay.
