hey I noticed that you havent written a lot for protocol and i really enjoy your writing, are you planning on writing for it like you did for archives or is alex gonna be in charge for most of it

So, in each of the three seasons I've got the writing credit for between 7-10 episodes. That means these are the episodes that I sat down and wrote from scratch, and they tend to be the bigger, more pivotal ones (season openers/finales, the episodes before a mid-season breaks, etc.) so in the mid-season you're likely to hear my name less in the "Written by" section, especially as that's also when a lot of the guest writers are doing their thing.

However, I've done extensive edits on each and every episode (as Alex has on the episodes "Written by" me), so believe me when I say my voice and writing is very much present even in those episodes where I don't have the explicit writing credit.

The overall story is also something that's almost exactly 50/50 between me and Alex. At least, that's my best guess - if you watched one of our planning sessions there's so much back and forth and running with each other's ideas that it's pretty much impossible to determine which idea or story beat was whose originally. And to be fair, that's how the season planning tended to go with Archives as well, it's just that I was the one that went away and wrote all of it.

So yeah, it's not quite as much a direct stream of "what's in Jonny's brain this week" as Archives was, but believe me when I say it's just as much my show.

#also alex is a fantastic writer #and i dont think he gets enough credit for that #so him being more involved in the writing is no bad thing

i just went to bed, then 15 minutes later got out of bed and turned the lights on, grabbed a pencil and sticky note, and began frantically calculating my total possible annual leave between now and December 2025. Again.

just in case anyone is wondering just how meticulous and obsessive i am over future travel and time off

#it seems more insane in person when you can see how many dates and numbers i wrote down #i do this literally all the time when bored #i never take a day off that isnt travel related lol #i had the chance to do it 3 times this month but instead i decided to work 9 hours days next week and week after next #so that i dont have to take any time #i could also save myself another 2 days leave if i worked 10 hour days the next two weeks after that #but idk if i hate myself enough for that #i also can earn credit time by voluntarily working over timr for up to 3 days total credit.#i use this as much as possible.#aaaaaand i get comp time for other work after hours (like my 5 hours from working on a Saturday in august that i havent touched yet)#i am literally insane about this btw.#my calculations this year assume i am not taking black friday off. if i do i will recalculate #anyway. in case you're ever like 'how does she take all these trips'#the answer is that i just obsessively track every single hour to the point where i'm working a year and a half in advance 😃

crazy take: aside from actual lesbian romance stories, obviously, nothing passes the bechdel test better than moe "cute girls doing cute things" anime. its always just a group of girls, few to no named male characters, boys and dating are hardly ever brought up beyond the abstract, if at all. like we're focusing on the girls hanging out rn, we dont need to worry abt that shit. mugi just ate mio's strawberry.

#this doesnt mean i think all ''cute girls doing cute things'' anime is feminist btw #thats not my take. the test itself isnt a metric for feminism #im just saying if you take the rules purely at face value. that type of show kills it #but also no the genre isnt for the male gaze! everyone go watch 'a place further than the universe' and develop some emotions #even k on which i joked abt in the post- its actually a bit complicated bc of the way the anime deviates from the manga #but the short of it is the further it gets away from its source and becomes its own thing the more it becomes abt the girls #s2 being all original was the strongest. its a great story about the fleeting nature of youth and lasting friendships actually #ppl dont give it enough credit. yes its slice of life ofc but its really good #also not to mention bocchi. everyone loved bocchi. in that show they literally have a joke where they dont show the dads face #bc no male characters LOL #the acceptation being that one club owner who is meant to be more feminine? manga readers know more abt that tho

Ironic how in a short poem in Ovid’s Metamorphosis Perseus has a more meaningful relationship with his killed comrades than in the Clash of the Titans remake.

In the poem he’s angry and scared, when he saw ppl die he wanted to avenge them, those friends serve no narrative purpose other than to die yet their connection with Perseus is way more meaningful than in the movie, what I mean is that in the poem when Phineus crashed the wedding they could’ve chosen to flee or not pick sides, but they made the choice to protect Perseus and fight for him, in the movie they only fight with Perseus bc it’s their job is to protect Argos, there’s no real personal stakes here, when they die the most emotion Perseus expresses is shock, otherwise he’s overly stoic.

Which is another thing, Hollywood is so obsessed with making their male heroes manly and emotionless, as if men in mythology don’t scream and cry every time something bad happens, like watching clips from the movie I keep thinking EMOTE FOR FUCKS SAKE when ppl die he doesn’t cry, scream, bargain with fate or panic even tho that could’ve fleshed him out so much, the only way he’s allowed to mourn is if he’s still as manly as possible.
