Hollow Knight spoilers —

Doing the Traitor Lord and Watcher Knights back-to-back sure was a choice by me.

Traitor Lord wouldn’t be brutal on its own, if not for the godawful thorn-filled platforming to get to it from the bench each time. Watcher Knights was easily the toughest fight so far IMO.

Multiplayer shooters aren’t my thing, but this slaps.

The art style, art direction, and game design are just so good.

The game is very soulslike in forcing you to Git Gud at the very skills you need to progress through that area. I’m enjoying exploring so much that I haven’t gotten frustrated with the learning curve or backtracking once. The boss fights also feel like a dance, just like FromSoft.

Ok never mind. I just beat the Mantis Lords and the Soul Master back-to-back and I’m on top of the world. This game is all I can think about. I am completely obsessed.

I think that’s sort of the issue — “loss of identity” didnt feel central to me. Like I noted in the original post, there are a bunch of different themes we could point to, but it all got too scattered. Or at the very least, hollow as a driver for this particular finale.

Look, I think White Lotus is generally brilliant. And probably one of my favorite things on TV right now because it’s isn’t too fussed with plot plot plot. But it probably could have used a couple less episodes to stay focused (which I rarely say about TV in this day and age).

Okay I was waiting for the whole season to play out to judge, but this season of White Lotus was kind of a mess.

It lacked identity. First season was a proof of concept about class, money and exploitation. Second season was about temptation and trust. This season was….mist. I can name a bunch of different themes and motives, but none of them came together.

I genuinely thought three girls’ storyline was going to be them passive aggressively stewing at each other and saying platitudes and giving each other fake smiles and cheek kisses, promising to do this again in 5 years. And it seemed it was going that way, until Carrie Coon’s speech. So kudos to the team for doing something interesting there. It’s the only storyline that felt genuine (probably because it had the least amount of stakes).

Look, I dont know what’s going to happen in White Lotus Season 3. But I do know that (1) whatever Parker Posey’s or Carrie Coon’s characters do or say, they are right and (2) if either of them die, it was unjustified.
