Fairly certain I’m the neighborhood’s crazy cat lady…

I forgot that my cat made a hole in the cat net and let him out into the garden. A neighbor comes by asking if I own the light grey cat and I said “yes, I’m sorry, is he in your geraden?” (Nobody has ever complained but they have yet to see my cat mutilate a bird. I’m on borrowed time.)

Friendly neighbor tells me my cat is on my direct neighbor’s roof.

THE ROOF

NONE of the other cats in the neighborhood do this!! Maybe they walk atop the fences. Luna (neighborhood black cat) likes to nap on our front garden table… ya know… normal cat stuff.

Please picture me harshly whispering, “you little asshole! Get down here!” While holding a laundry basket for him to jump into.

Then the neighborhood children join me with treats and saying “Frau Hassell! Da da!!” Telling me where he is when he disappears time to time.

Eventually I called out the big guns. I asked an older child to leash Merri (golden retriever and Balu’s greatest love) and bring her to me — the kid knows Merri well and has no problem bringing her out.

INSTANTLY after seeing his goddess, the damn cat jumps into the laundry basket and down to Merri, rubbing all over her and bless that puppy she just barely tolerates him.

He followed Merri back inside. Balu is banished to indoor activities. The children got to play with my dog and I paid them in kinder regal chocolate.

1) Before going to the OR, I usually get Versed (powerful sedative) because I’m always really nervous. They used to give it to me orally because the prevailing idea was that children hate IVs and would prefer liquid medicine. After several projectile vomiting incidents, teenage me decided I’d much rather have an IV. I was very unprepared for how quickly an IV got it into your system. All I remember is that one second, I was sitting up with a needle in my hand and the next, I had flopped over like an under-stuffed teddy bear and was unable to right myself.

2) For one minor procedure, the anesthesiologist explained they were going to use propofol. My immediate, unrestrained reaction was “The thing that killed Michael Jackson?!” I am not, nor have I ever been, a Michael Jackson fan, but his death was fairly recent at the time.

3) I had enough surgeries that I became familiar with some of the anesthesiologists. One time (under the influence of ativan, to be fair), I just held out my arm, veins up, and asked the doctor to “beam me up.” The most embarrassing part is that I am firmly Team Wars in the Trek/Wars debate.
