Seen Through

Tony felt like hell, exhausted and coming off of an unfortunate stint with some sort of week-long virus that he’d kept under wraps by pretending to be busy in the workshop.

He did his best not to show the wear, lounging in his chair as the meeting continued on in a boring drone. He actually had to try to make himself concentrate, when normally he could keep himself easily distracted and still give the slightest of his attention to the meeting to follow along.

Of course, he couldn’t make it look like he was paying attention, because that would be a dead giveaway that something was wrong and Tony was far too good at this sort of thing to be caught on something as amateurish as that.

The meeting finally ended.

“Tony.” Stephen was suddenly at his side, and Tony wondered just how Stephen had gotten there so quickly, cutting off Fury who’d been making his way towards Tony. “I need your help with something, if you could come with me to the Sanctum?”

Normally, Tony jumped at the chance to spend more time with Stephen, but right now all he wanted was to go home and sleep.

Not that that was an option, if he didn’t go with Stephen he was just going to be pulled into another meeting.

“Sure,” he said, injecting his normal cheer into his voice.

Stephen smiled at him, resting a hand on his elbow for a brief moment before opening a portal.

Tony followed him through, turning to Stephen as it closed. “What do you need help with?”

“Nothing,” Stephen said with a shrug. “I just thought you could use an escape.” He pointed to a couch behind him. “You can take a nap on the couch, or if you really need, you can borrow my bed.”

Tony stared at him. “What?”

Stephen just looked at him. “You look like hell, Tony. You clearly need sleep. So take a nap.”

“I don’t look like hell.” And he knew for a fact that he didn’t. No way would Tony ever let himself be caught with such an obvious weakness.

Stephen just met his gaze. “Don’t hide from me, Tony.”

Tony opened his mouth to deny it again, but Stephen’s gaze was quietly imploring.

“Yeah,” he said finally. “I feel like hell.”

“Sleep,” Stephen said quietly. “I’ve got things if anyone comes looking for you.”

For a moment all Tony could do was stare at him, this man who managed to see through all of Tony’s masks. This man who cared enough to call him on them instead of letting him bury himself beneath the weight of them.

“I love you.” It was the first time he'd ever said it. He doubted it would be the last.

Stephen’s smile was gentle. “I know. I love you, too. Now, go—“

“Sleep, I know.”

And in that moment, it was the easiest thing in the world to let the masks fall. There was no need for them, not when Stephen saw through them anyways.

Been listening to Subspace Rhapsody on repeat, which lead met to thinking about Q&A, about Una giving advice to Jim and Spock that was somehow both completely opposite and yet exactly the same.

Her advice to Spock was all about how Starfleet is great but it's not perfect, so you're not totally safe to just be yourself, I'm sorry. But there are places and people that you can be fully yourself with it's just a matter of finding them.

Meanwhile Kirk is human. He's not in danger from anti-human prejudice so he doesn't need to worry about his own safety, but by telling him to connect with his crew he'll be made aware of it.

And that's before I get into the fact that Una 100% decided to reveal to a kid that she'd just met maybe an hour ago that she isn't human all so that she could give him a safe place. Like holy shit! Talk about connecting to your crew.

I also just love that she sings to both of them to get her point across. She's so cute.

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.
