If I lay dying
At your feet
Would you breathe
Life back into my lungs
Or leave me
Clawing at your jeans
Gasping for air
While you watch
Head tilted
Pupils dilated
In feral fascination
I should have known
Better
You’ve killed so many
Parts of me
Before -
Those kinds of amputations
I feel them still
When those empty spaces ache
Conjuring a phantom
Of what has been
And I’m left
Haunted
With grief tightly wound
around my throat
While Love lies naked
And alone
Rotting on your hardwood floor.
- Death becomes me.

She was elegant Yet untamed Honeysuckles a crown Atop a lattice of bronze curls A princess turned queen In earthy tones Lush and verdant Against skin of flawless cream Stark want Naked in her eyes The taste of copper And floral petals Alive on her tongue As she laughed.
& in that moment, she was free.

The promise of forever
Dripped from your lips
Velvet soft like honey
Slow and sticky like sin
In the summer heat
As the stars in your eyes
Began to fall - violent
Streaks of light smeared
Across the milky twilit sky
While my last words
Whisper soft
Snaked slowly around
your throat
“Choke for me darling”
Because you made me
Hold my breath for years
“Have you had enough now?”
And for the first time
I realize
That love
should never feel
Like drowning.

Writer Interview Tag Game
I was tagged by @madworlddiary. Thanks!  :D
1. What made you start writing for the first time?
I was in first grade, and I wanted to start keeping a diary. I remember that I didn’t really know how to form full sentences, and it frustrated me. I began to write poetry when I was 15 because I took a creative writing class and discovered that I had a bit of a knack for it. That really set off my passion for both reading and writing poetry.
2. If you could only write about the ocean, the forest, or the desert for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?
The forest. I grew up in the mountains, and they always sort of call to me. I have been exploring more sea-related themes since I moved near the ocean, but it’s not my first love. I’ve never been to the desert.
3. Would you ever write a memoir?
I used to think that was important. To write the story of my life. I kept journals for years. And then I just stopped writing. Everything. I didn’t write for a very long time. Now, I don’t know. I’m not sure I am interested in me enough to bother.
4. Do you like writing by hand, or writing with a computer?
Every Wednesday, I write by hand in a meeting at work where I pretend to take notes. One of my best poems came out of that practice. Though I have to admit, I prefer the computer because it’s faster.
5. Would you rather be popular among many readers, or unpopular, but loved by critics?
Neither. I honestly appreciate anyone digging my stuff. I write for myself first, but I always love to hear that other people connect with it. I think playing too much to any kind of audience can kill your writing.
6. Do you listen to music while you write? What is the best writing music?
Sometimes. It depends on the type of writing I am doing, but I always listen to music without lyrics. I find other voices distracting when I’m writing. When I’m writing at work, I listen to jazz. When I’m writing poetry, I listen to classical or ambient electronic music.
7. Do people you’ve met find their way into your writing?
Almost always. Not every poem is about another person and not every person rates a poem. However, the most important people in my life tend to find their way into my writing.
I tag : @enslavedmind @warxpunkxmonk @greenish-orange @storiavitali @nolongerbrokenbell @thewanderingsaylor @theseus-jenkins

Promptlyrefined: week 12 (recap)
What a delightful week of poetry, you guys really outdid yourself. I’m not even going to bother to pick the weekly best because you’re all winners in my book. Besides, it was supposed to be just a little game for some poetic fun. Some of you have mentioned how it got you out of a slump, and maybe there’ve also been some bloggers partaking that normally wouldn’t write poetry who now tried it. Either way I am over the moon. And I know at least one person who’d adore seeing this many pomegranate mentions. Without further ado, this week’s poets in order of appearance:
@mrsninac-blog (poem) @wanderinginaseaofwords (poem) @wordslifeandthings (poem) @dustseeker (poem) @electricarmchair (poem) @rachtiouspalmer (poem) @elementalalchemist (poem) @mjao7 (poem) @waadtariq (poem) @thespiandrummer (poem) @kixxie (poem) @heartofmuse (poem) @louinspace (poem) @poetbitesback (poem) @cruxymox (poem) @juxtapos-ition (poem) @lzlabs (poem) @drearydaffodil (poem) @seagulls-den (poem) @hangingoninquietdesparation (poem) @quietdissidentlyricist (poem) @gracebabcockwrites (poem) @irlloveletters (poem) @warxpunkxmonk (poem) @journalidiot (poem) @mysublimejourney (poem) @thewanderingsaylor (poem) @jasongrabowski (poem) @mleighsquickspot (poem) @autumnsunshine10 (poem) @avolitorial (poem) @fakesurprise (poem) @sweet-poesy (poem) @thewanderingsaylor (poem)
Thank you all for participating! There will be another poetry game in a couple of weeks (I like to change up things), but I certainly won’t wait as long as I did between this one and the last one.

Honorable Mentions: @electricarmchair, @stripedgriffin, @poetrex, @definegodliness

I really liked the honesty in it, the openness of this piece. I like how the prompt was used as an introduction to the stanzas. It’s beautiful. Excellent job!

Thank you to all who participated! A new prompt will be posted soon.

So you think you can come up knocking, Or rather you don't even knock, you come barging, In the little place that is our escape, And you think you can change the whole landscape, Just by spreading hatred, Isn't there already too much of it in the world? So many amazing poets we have here, So many writers utilize this place to overcome their fear, And yet you come in like a bully, Hasn't your soul ever seen a day that's sunny? Why is there so much darkness in you I wonder? Or was it, on your part, just another blunder. I have no clue how many of you are there, Maybe one or two, or maybe layers upon layer. This mask behind which you are hiding, In your insecurities, are you gliding? Take it off and come with a good heart, You will see everyone wishing well in your fresh start. So many beautiful people here indeed, Why would you ever want to insult/bully denmysterywoman and writerscreed? For they create so many beautiful memories, Same goes for the wonderful people from Poetic stories. All you do is spread bitterness, disdain and whine. It only motivates our amazing autumn sunshine. You can do all you want and brag, Not one of you have even an ounce of strength like our Meg. Are you really scared because you think you're a failure? Taking out your frustration on the wandering saylor. I wouldn't want to say this but in your arrogance you have become so freaky, Showering hate and insult upon our ever bright, creatingNikki. Did you give your words even a second glance? Before pointing them out on the littlemissimaginary of the illustrans. Anon, you have been warned, For we are artistic collaborations that simply can not be swamped. We will bring to you a poetry riot, No portal you can ever go to such as the poetry portal, There exists among us broken souls, Some are voiceless waiting to be recognized. But I'm sorry, you my friend, here you do not come, You are definitely not welcome here, in this place we call home. - AA P.S. I'm really sorry if I've missed out here on people who received anon hate / bullying and I also apologize if I included anyone in this who hasn't been on the receiving end of that hate. @denmysterywoman @just-4-thought @autumnsunshine10 @creatingnikki @littlemissimaginary @thewanderingsaylor

I wish I took more time to write in my book of rhymes I have failed to uphold the writerscreed Despite the motivation gotten from poeticstories. If only I took more time to write Maybe I won't be taken by fakesurprise At how thewanderingsaylor bears to sail With teacup13 through the poetryportal And still remain themyriad. Denmysterywoman come kiss my head So my mind can once again bumbleblossom Bearing fruits worthy of the various challenges Poured into my Tumblr Tor me to quench my artistic thirst And satisfy the hungry desires of sapiosexual me. ---Barry Gene #writerscreed challenge# #poeticstories# @poetryportal @denmysterywoman @bumbleblossoms @teacup13 @themyriad #poetry

When you run your tongue
Across your teeth
Do you still taste me
Do I linger there
Like the tobacco on your sheets
Like the sticky sweetness
Between my legs
Dripping from your fingers
Can you still hear me
In the melody of that song
You used to love
Used to love
like you loved
Tracing my freckles and scars
Naming them as new
And glorious
Constellations
Burning fire
Etched into pale skin
Luminous like the forgotten moon
Used to love
Like you loved
Kicking me in the stomach
When I was already bleeding out
On the floor
Of your sad studio apartment
In some lonely city
Whose godforsaken name is always
Lodged in my throat
When it rains.
Do you still feel me
When her face is between
Your legs
Worshipping at your altar
While you stare at the ceiling
Speaking in tongues
When you hold your hands
Too close to the flaming coils
On your stove top
Craving to climb inside
Their heat
Because it reminds you
Of being kissed
By my fire
When you light
Your morning cigarette
And watch it’s smoke
Trail off
Into the soft glow
Of a fresh urban dawn
Like when we used to laugh
On your tiny balcony
As if we had some grand secret
And knew every answer
To questions
We hadn’t even asked
Yet.
