FangFest '24 - Day 1

Alex, the Malkavian fledgling, is one of those unfortunate kindred who has no idea they're a vampire and will not come to terms with it. Of course, he's also completely out of touch with reality as a Malkavian with a very tough derangement. His sire has been diablerized, he was taken in by the murderer (his fellow childer of the man), and well. His new adoptive sire is going to have many problems to work with.

I present to you, my Magnum Opus. The Underland Chronicles rendered in the style of an early 2000s flash based point and click adventure game (the MNOG)

I have spent so long on this. Inkscape doesn't log total project time the way Krita does, but it's the most time I've spent on any single piece of vector art. Even then there's still a million things I want to go in and change but... aaaaaa you have to cut it off somewhere. I have been copy pasting rats for hours, and don't even get me started on the shadows. The shadows look good, they are not physically accurate. I tried.

Close up on Solovet and Ajax I've never actually drawn Solovet, or any underlanders really. I definitely am phoning it in by framing her from behind. When it came to designing what kind of armor they'd wear I took inspiration from both Greek and Roman designs. Ajax was originally much more saturated red until @paksenarrion-dorthansdotter corrected me. The books describe him as dried blood colored. (please don't look too close at the rats they don't hold up to scrutiny)

Close up on Ripred. He looks just a little bit small and fat in this one, but that's just because he's slouching. When he stands up it all stays in his hips and ass. I always draw Ripred like he appeared on my cover of Code of Claw. The scar on his face isn't really visible from this angle because it cuts left to right and he's looking left.

Lastly, here's Gregor and Ares. There is an official design for his armor as seen on the cover of my copy of Code of Claw. I redesigned it because I thought that version looked kinda pants, tbh. Little goofy and hard to take seriously.

The great thing about vector art is you can zoom in and obsess over tiny little details that end up only being like 4 pixels wide in the final export. Case in point, these rando flyers. Such minute detail that gets flattened out to a single pixel in some cases.

Sidenote: I always imagined the flyers as more microbat inspired, which is why I draw them with tails... but these ones end up looking very flying fox-like and have also some megabat proportions. This isn't really an intentional artistic choice, it's just a compromise I had to strike to make them look decent. I need to practice drawing microbats more.

Oh well. The author isn't that descriptive about their proportions so I guess it's up to interpretation.

Lastly, here's the original sketch that I traced over. A lot of features ultimately got cut, as well as the dimensions to the side being changed. Solovet originally was going to have a braid but then I remembered that line from the first book where Luxa explains that you have to cut your hair to go to war. Ripred also looked a lot more teddy bear like in the sketch, so I ended up not even tracing him. Bane was a redraw, and I actually did trace part of Ajax and then just frehanded the rest.

DotS Update: March Edition!

Apologies for the lack of post activity lately! Came down sick with real bad allergies this past week (hay fever? Maybe a head cold? Not sure, can't afford to see a doctor), which followed a migraine that reeaaaally overstayed its welcome. Good news: no more light sensitivity, yay! Bad news: My head is more stuffed than a jalapeño popper, and just as deep-fried

I've had a post on DotS' Dark Meta Knight in drafts for a long while, so I've decided to post it for you all! Give you guys a little tasty something to chew on while I work on some more stuff! Not sure why I hadn't posted it sooner other than possibly just straight up forgetting XD Sorry about that!!

While I've been down from my sinuses going on strike, I continue to work on a lot of changes to my comic! I've been working on simplifying my style to ebb a little closer to how it was in the beginning, but more refined and streamlined. It'll still be real pretty (especially in important panels 👀), just easier for me to whip out. I realize I had burned myself out a year ago because I was putting too much detail into things that really didn't need it, and started falling back into my perfectionist habits.

Like hey, professional comics are stuffed with lazy and quick lines, and it still looks great, so why should I try to conform myself to printing out extremely high quality art every single page? I'm not trying to set a standard or prove anything, I'm just telling a story and sharing it omg

I started this comic for fun, and fun I shall have! It'll still look great for you guys, I won't be terribly lazy with it; I'll just have a more streamlined approach now, and will have predominantly cell shading rather than my signature soft-cell style ouo/

Behind the scenes, I've been playing around with some ideas revolving a certain character, and it's been giving me a lot of practice with comics, since it's been so long. Getting me back in the mind and grind of churning out page after page, sketch-wise, and helping me get back in touch with my root skills.

I'll be sure to share some examples here later, once I've done some full colored trials with this, see what you guys think!

I will probably no longer do colored text from here onward in my comic pages, mainly because it's a hassle to manage (it's pretty time consuming as well). However I'm pretty skilled at directing dialogue, so it should never be a question as to whom is speaking on any page. ouo7

On one final note, a certain official Kirby character has stolen my heart and wormed their way into among my top favorites, nevertheless stole a spot in my story AAAAAA (I understand the appeal now omg)

okay so he uses ppl in the cafe as sketchbook references - so it's not like he's making big detailed artworks - but he uses these sketchbook drawings as inspiration for his actual big detailed artwork - and yeah, generally his finished pieces don't really look like the ppl he sketches, few exceptions here and there for his friends -- and yeah he draws them in his own style and with his own vision

akutagawa tho is one of the exceptions becuz um idk atsushis a simp

yeah yea!! akutagawa's generally draws buildings and landscapes - the people he draws come more in the shape of crowds where no individual is the main focus - if atsushi hadn't been there he'd have drawn the multiple ppl w/o focus on the face and the cafe but since atsushi was there he only focused on his detailed face

sskk no powers au where they both go to the same cafe everyday to draw 

on atsushi’s side

he goes everyday, orders a drink and a new sweet to try and then he sits near a window to sketch

sometimes a friend will come along - but the cafe isn’t too loud but has a steady amount of people and to atsushi its a perfect place to sketch and get ideas for his work

he likes to sketch all sorts of ppl

the short hatted ginger who he’d seen when he’d gone out with dazai - who had been lovely to draw until he saw dazai scowled and stomped away much to atsushi’s confusion

the red headed girl who’d noticed him drawing and struck up a conversation with him and was now one of his dearest friends lucy

and him

he came to the cafe just as much as atsushi himself 

he’d sit in the corner and scribble away

always alone

he had long elegant fingers and pale skin, dark hair the lightened at the bottom that he’d pull back after sitting there for a while

he always wore black and kept to himself

he was the most beautiful person atsushi’s eyes had ever seen

and in no time atsushi’s sketch book was filled with him

when atsushi’s friend called him up about a gallery type event open to a wide range of invited artists he’d been excited

especially when all that the theme had been was a simple ‘beauty’ 

his cheeks were only a little red when his section was filled with the same muse

on akutagawa’s side

akutagawa finds drawing ppl to be rather dull

humans can be intriguing but individually? akutagawa’s art focuses on the world - landscapes - groups of humans travelling - never one single person

akutagawa comes to the cafe after a long week of not being able to find anything intriguing enough

cafe’s are relatively crowded so he thinks he can sketch for a while until something hits him

when he sees him 

the sunlight from the window illuminating white hair, long lashes brushing his cheeks as he looked down at whatever was in front of him, pink lips curled into a small genuine smile

when the boy looked up, potentially becuz he felt akutagawa’s staring, akutagawa saw his eyes, purple and gold

akutagawa ryuunosuke was a smitten man

and before he knew it, he was coming back to the cafe every day hoping to catch a glimpse of the man, hsi pencil tracing the shapes of him over and over in his sketchbook

akutagawa had been wrong

this one person was the most breathtaking view, nothing else in the world could ever compare

objectively of course

akutagawa’s friends notice his newfound muse as they help him take out the pieces he’s selected for his section in the gallery of his sister’s friend’s friend 

akutagawa thinks its just becuz they know him so well - not all his works featured the boy’s face - though all were inspired by him

Aight, I see that we started off greatly.

In all honesty, he have no idea how to draw,

And of course his drawing would look,,,, quite terrible i'm so sorry bokuto lovers

He's that kid in art class where's when the teacher already told them what to draw,

Bokuto sat there on his chair, staring at the canvas

Like, what is he suppose to do? Draw?

Well, yeah technically but what???

I can totally see him frustratingly erase the sketch if it can be called as a sketch

And then proceed to try to copy other people's work

Keyword; try

It's bad but at least he had an effort to finish it

4/10, there I said it

Akaashi

His drawings are not that professional but it's pretty

Have you ever seen a drawing that you wanted to stare at it for hours until you're satisfied?

That what's his drawing are like

Not typically an art kid so he's fine when student's from his art class asked him to draw for them

And is feeling pretty neutral with his talent (he actually won't call it a talent but more like a hobby or sum)

And just say 'thanks' if peoples compliments his drawing

Let say his drawing is, a good 8/10

A decent drawer in conclusion :)

Konoha

Not a bad drawer but he rather keep it basic

Konoha's prolly too lazy to draw something over the top so he's just gonna draw flower or something ksndnzkj

Sometimes sleep during art class and had to ask what they had to draw

Proceeds to decently draws a scenery

He's totally not the creative kid so whenever the teach tell them to draw something, he'll always go with basket of fruits, like,

Man, I appreciated the drawing but at least put some effort on thinking what to draw

The art teacher also kept telling him that he have raw talent and should enhance the skill more,

But that never happened, no

"Sorry ma'am, I'll just stick to volleyball, thank you,"

One part of the art room has a section of konoha's basket of fruits drawings but in different mediums

Rating is 7/10

Washio

IS actually an art kid and you cannot convince me otherwise

Has a small sketchbook with him and he'll always doodle when he's bored or in a middle of a lecture (while taking notes of course)

His main skill in drawing tho is painting

The colors blends in so well with one another and he's good at picking color palettes

Also, he doesn't really get that annoyed if some kids from his class ask him to teach them how to draw

Or even look through his sketchbook

He'll just nod and hand it to them without a second thought

Ajsjdhsijsi Washio get so blushy when someone compliments his drawing,,,,

I’ll give a 10/10 :), congrats

Sarukui

The best that he can do is doodles of owls and other shits but other than that, he cannot do

But the doodles are kinda cute doe ngl

He’ll have his moment where he’s in class and have no idea what to do, and just doodles a bunch of stuff

Once he draw his whole teammate including his coach and himself, he thought to himself,

“Huh, this looks good,”

And then take a picture of it for memories (cause he might throw the book he’s doodling in away)

Speaking of that, he doesn’t have an official book for drawing and just draws in his english or math’s textbook or sum

His juniors eyes are blessed when they got his textbook

Sarukui just vibes in during art class, draws and that’s pretty much it

The drawings,,,,,eh,,,, not that good, he only specialize in doodling as I said

so in conclusion,

drawing? 2/10

doodling? I’ll give a solid 5/10, good job

Komi

I’m gonna say this and I’m prolly gonna say it again

He hates art class

Like, even with him trying his best to draw, it’ll always gonna look strange than what he planned

mf cannot draw a straight line in art class

This dood can draw a nice straight line in any other class whether it’s for a graph or others,

And then proceed to shakily draw a straight line during art session

Totally not an art kid and will never be one

His drawings,,,,

I’m so sorry but it looks so bad

It’ll prolly look a lot better if he put more effort, but it’ll still look bad no matter what

Komi hates art class and can’t draw even a decent doodle so unfortunately, I’ll have to rate it 0/10, sorry :(

Anahori

His drawings are eh

It’s not good but also not bad?

Sometimes you’ll just stare at his drawing for a good minute and be like, what did he just draw just now?

What I’m saying is that his drawing’s are unexplainable

Maybe if you stare at it a little bit longer then it’ll make sense and you can see the beauty in it

But honestly I can’t really see anything, not in a bad way, but like, literally nothing

You’ll be staring at his canvas as the mario kart rainbow road music started playing inside your head

But Anahori is always proud of his drawings no manner what

So, I’ll rate confusion/10

Onaga

Just like Komi, he sorta hates art class too

But lemme tell ya, his sketches are GODLY, like, have you seen those pinterest hand sketches?

That’s what his sketch would look like

It’s so yummy to look at what

But he sucks at lineart so JAHGSDSHD

Onaga cannot properly hold the black pen and do the lineart, it’ll always turn wonky and he had to throw it away

Like, if he spend even hours tryna outline it all, and then erase it

It’ll look so trash

And he’ll just stare at it for a couple of minutes before crumpling the paper

He’ll also suck at coloring

Mans cannot understand how the color blend in together

And I think I’ll rate,,,,,6/10 just cause he suck at coloring and lineart lmao don’t worry i suck at coloring too

Kaori

Another decent drawer and her drawings are almost the same as Akaashi’s

But instead of it looking pretty, it looks cute

I have a headcanon that Kaori have a journal and does journaling so that’s prolly the reason why her drawings are cute af

But honestly, her drawings sometimes depends on her mood,

If she’s mad or frustrated, her drawing would look kinda rough and not that cute anymore

If she’s feeling happy tho, It’ll look so nice and cuddly does that even make any sense

Isn’t necessarily an art kid but would love to try be one

And she totally have drawing sessions with Washio aaaaaa,

Just imagine both of them sketching in the same sketchbook while talking about the volleyball club or anything else

She’s getting an 9/10 just cause her sketchs looks clean <33

Yukie

She doesn’t draw at all

Like, you’ll never see her drawing at any kind of time so you have no idea what it looks like

Yukie would still attend art class,

But never draws

She said that she’s pretty lazy to draw it and said to draw it at her home later

But no one even saw that drawing after that

Yukie doesn’t show her drawings nor EVEN draw for once

So I technically can’t rate :/

The only reason why I started with Gin is because he have some amazing drawing skills

He admit that he’s not an art kid but draws godly as if he had been thought since he was a kid,

Well, actually yes

I think Ginjima actually wanted to be a drawer when he was still a little kid way before he started his 3rd year of middle school

So he practiced a few and became a nice drawer since then,

But he kinda quit being a drawer and decided to go with volleyball

And guess what?

His drawing talent is still there

He totally specialize in pencil drawing cause that’s the first thing he started learning

The lines are smooth and the shading are so yummy what is wrong with me

The Miya twins and Suna are so sh00ked when he saw his drawing during art class

ngl he’s pretty smug about it too but doesn’t brag about it

I’ll give this boy 12/10, mwuaah

Suna

I hate this man for this sole reason

Suna is too LAZY to draw so he doesn’t give any effort in his drawing

I can guarantee myself that I’ll get an eye strain when I saw his drawing

A pretty decent drawer

Akagi always draw happy and cute drawings so you’ll also get happy when you saw his drawings

Puts on a big smile when people compliments his drawing and shyly scratches the back of his neck

“Nah, this just look normal!”

But he draws oddly thick lines sometimes

Sometimes it looks good in some drawing

And sometimes it looks, bizzare in others...

But I think his drawing would look nice <3

Overall, I’ll give a,,, 7.5/10, keep up the good work

Oomimi

He’s from class 7 AND I really think that he’ll be good at drawing

Well, he can draw a few things but he struggles drawing other things he never accustomed to

But!

Oomimi is that kid who’s good at drawing scenery

He knows basic color palettes and which is cold and hot colors

So the scenery drawing would always look good

He get a lot of compliments for the drawing (50% of it from Akagi)

I think he doesn’t have that many time to relax and draw freely but when he does have it, it’ll just be small and simple doodles

um, let’s go with 8/10 <3

Aran

I truly believe that Aran can draw peoples face but in a pretty decent amount

He’s also good with anatomy teach me your ways king

But as much as he’s good at that, he kinda sucks at drawing any kind of background drawings

Mans can’t draw a scenery I’m telling you

As if the background doesn’t even exist in his mind lolol I’m sorry Aran lovers, I didn’t mean that in a bad way

Mainly uses copic markers to color and color pencils to shade

The first time he use the copic marker, he got really frustrated that the marker stain the other pages lmao

And he never uses digital drawing applications or softwares

Aran just doesn’t

I think I’ll rate him, 8.5/10

Kita

Okay, I know that Kita’s a top student and never fails in anything

But he’s not typically a good drawer that much

His drawing still got good marks but when you look at it, it just looks normal

I just know that the Kita lovers gonna get me after this

It’s not that bad and not that good, just a nice balance in between

I personally think Kita’s not that godly in drawing but rather a neutral drawer

He draw what he can and does shading and coloring when it’s needed

The colors are all basic colors, no pastel, no neon

And the shadings are pretty basic

Just a normal drawer here

Ya’ll gonna fight me for this but I’ll give Kita’s point,

I just wanted to say I really love your art and style! It's so beautiful to look at and I love how you draw almost loosely (if that makes sense 🙂) I just wanted to ask if you had any tips or tricks that you use and what drawing program/brushes you use too. Thank you for sharing your art!

Lemme see if I can think of some tips cause I have a lot of things I do that I don’t even think about while drawing hahah. 

I usually try to keep my first sketches very loose like you say, try not to worry about anatomy at first and just get a readable shape/pose/expression down before anything else. Its so easy to get stuck on making something look right on the first try that can make things look stiff afterwards. I fall into this trap myself many times. Once you have that down you can do a second pass to make things look nicer.

Use few long deliberate strokes instead of many short strokes, they help keep a flow going on!

Line of actions are super helpful for giving poses shape and a natural movement. Even if those poses are just a character standing. 

Honestly something i do to practice all of this is draw directly in pen sometimes? (usually a black gel pen, just cause i like its feel) Drawing directly in pen without sketching before forces you to embrace mistakes and keep drawing. I also feel like it gives me permission to just be as loose as possible and focus on shapes. Eventually (with lots of practice) those things start to stick when you draw normally. Here’s some drawings done directly in pen

As for programs:

I used to use paint tool sai and I still like it but now I use clip studio paint which has many more tools to use and nice brushes as well.

Honestly the main brush I use for sketching and lining is the default ‘real g-pen’ in clip studio paint

For coloring I use mapping Pen (seen above as well) and the oil paint flat brush for some added texture when its not just flat colors

Sketch by painting instead of using lines!! It seems so... free?

Do backgrounds or at least make some cool composition on drawings idk

Be able to draw cute stuff shjksd I avoid cute characters cause they look so awkward in my style

Be comfortable with digital art. On paper everything goes so smooth and fast. It feels awful to sit for hours to make anything look good on the computer :p

Bakugou protecting Kirishima is something I’m waiting for the actual manga to deliver, so I try not to think too much about it to keep it fresh in case Horikoshi’ll ever be that nice to me haha but anyway we sort of saw how he reacted to Kiri being in mild “danger” during the license exam, so I guess for him to actually lose his mind and explode/get angry Kiri should be in serious danger. Like, post-Rappa fight type of danger, probably.  Ahhhhhhhh boy, I seriously hope Hori will be kind enough to make something like that happen (………not that I want Kiri hurt, tho ;–;)

don't wish to make this blog go all off topic right now like it did for a short time some months ago but i really wanted to ask that sWEET MERCIFUL AVOCADO MOD MATA TEACH ME HOW TO DRAW LIKE WHAT

;_; Aaaaaa anon ilu! I'm not really good at giving proper advice since I'm largely self taught and my knowledge is better explained if I do things rather than talk about them, but my advice is (you're probably tired of hearing this) to practice as much as you're able - but don't burn yourself out. Figure out where your comfort zone is in terms of subject matter and try to break out of it. Only draw certain poses? Grab some references and whip out some sketches. Only use certain colors? Use a color scheme you've never used before. Prompt memes and generators are a lifesaver and don't be afraid to look at photos or other art for inspo. On the subject of other art, if there's an artist that you really like, try to emulate your favorite things about their art in your own. My style is mostly inspired by anime with just a pinch of Western cartoon influence, but the biggest influence to my art is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I love Araki's art, esp the DiU style, and during this year I've taken some elements of his style (posing, facial features) and incorporated them in my own. In fact if you look at all my old art you can see where I started to be inspired by Jojo. Keep in mind that I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, so what you see now is the result of nearly 20 years of growth from young childhood to young adulthood. Keep finding your own path and you'll improve greatly! (My art has improved significantly over just this year bc I started to go outside of my comfort zone.)- mod mata

Google search some poses and use them, that’s what they’re there for! It’s really helpful to study them; you learn more that way and get better at poses over time ^^

i’ll complain about the grapes, right, because about 90% of my process was me complaining aloud about the grapes im p sure everyone who sat near me hates me now and is going to sit across the room from me next time, or make me sit outside and look in through the window bc i would not shut up about these fuckigng grapES BUT it was for a Good REASON they are trash garbage fruit invtned by Satan Himself

i got the sizing of them wrong when i first started sketching them out & was never able to recover from it, they still look weird and shitty like when u draw a scribbly disproportionate person but then u shade and render them super realistically, thats what these damn grapes are right now, i ended up adding more of them than there were originally because i fucked up the spacing so theres like, too many grapes and theyre all the wrong size & i hate them they are demons who have somehow surfaced from the underworld specifically to target Me

sorry to complain so much tho, i actually do like how this came out (i wouldnt be showing it if i didnt tbh), i like the watering can & the leaf, i guess im just rly good w/ green paint or smth

man tho it was like. the painting was due beginning of class thursday & we had our critique & everything and i hadn’t finished mine yet bc i had a slow start so even tho i stayed 3 hrs later the previous two classes i still wasn’t able to get everything done (mostly hte grapes) so i just kind of accepted it u know like w/e i didnt want to paint them anyway

so like we had critique & hung the paintings on the wall like yes good finished, assignment Complete right. except that iiiii kind of did want to finish mine?? because i finished the previous one & im like a perfectionist, so even tho i hated it i wanted it to look finished?? and those grapes looked like shit, man

so i knew the still life would be disassembled since the assignment was over so i was like “ok i’ll just take a pic of it & finish it at home” so i started to do that but then i realized. why dont i just. stay late again & work on it rn

and immediately i started groaning at myself because what the FUCK i was literally packing up to leave i woulda been #Outta There in like 30 more seconds, gone home, had the rest of the day to fuck around, u know, the good shit, and also i haaaated this painting so much i hated working on it, the reason i had such a slow start was bc i spent 2 out of the 4 class periods we had to work on it sitting there staring at nothing bc the amount of mental energy i had to donate specifically to working on this painting was exactly 0 i juuuust didn t want to do it i fuckcigng cannot believe how much i would rather not paint than paint in this class that i signed up for of my own Free Will and Discretion

anyway i ended up using some more of that free will to sit my ass down and force myself to finish the damn piece of shit fuckenign thing liKE  it wasnt even NEcessary at that point we already did critique we already put it up on the wall like it was such a done deal i didnt have to do anything else i coulda just walked away from it like “see u in hell” but it like reached out and grabbed me and pulled me down with it so i sat and painted in hell for another three hours i guess (except the painting room gets really Fucking cold for some reason so that kinda broke my immersion a little bit, but the emotional torment was still there so)

i dont think i wouldve made it through to the end if not for this other girl in my class who was rly excited to see that i was staying to work on it more aaaaaa that made me feel nice?? i kept getting frustrated w/ the grapes and ended up taking this big long break that kept extending bc every time i thought about getting back to work i would just stare off into space for a while before checking tumblr again & it was like rinse & repeat w/ that nonsense, i could feel myself losing my will & i kept thinking about just putting everything away & finishing it at home like i originally planned (tho i couldnt imagine myself ever actually taking it out to work on at home, so like)

but this girl started talking to me & we had a good long conversation and that managed to get me back in higher spirits so i was able to like. just chill & get back into it because of that so that was cool! she helped me beat those fuckin grapes i Overcame

i did run out of time tho bc theres another class that comes in at 2:40 so i have to Leave so they can paint so that’s where i capped it in the end; i was able to get it to a point where it at least looks finished but tbh there are still some areas i feel could use some work, like the log piece of wood thing in the top right, that was like. super rushed and i mean it looks alright, i like the texture of it but the color is definitely off and i could do better with it overall tbh. also the drapery, the red cloth, there are a couple places where it’s not giving off the effect i wanted to capture so i’d probably mess around with that a little more, but i already spent a ton of time on it before, i had to like make myself leave it alone to focus on other things bc i was starting to run out of time 

but anyway YEAH overall i think it counts as done so im gonna call it done and leave it at that! concluding thoughts, painting is garbage but at least im making nice things, an d i never want to see another grape again in my single human lifetime by e

So I saw my QPP set up his commissions, and I figured that I should get off my sorry ass and do the same! Honestly, I’m in a real pinch - with my depression taking over and my class soaking up barely any of my time as well as my Patreon gone, I’m in desperate need of money. This isn’t the exact model that I have, but it’s very similar. The entire thing needs to be restrung as the strings are extremely old, but I actually got this little thing for FREE. (Long story short: I got my nails done Tuesday, then went to visit the music shoppe in town looking for any stringed instruments other than guitars. The owner asks me if I’m interested in an autoharp, and I’m like “harp? Harp? Did you say harp?” and he tells me that his friend gave it to him, didn’t want it anymore, and it would’ve taken the owner $70 to get the entire thing restrung and it wasn’t worth his time. He legitimately gave me a 1968 ChromAharp for free. I’m like. “AAAAAA” but yes this is my new baby ahehe) So that needs to be done, and right now I’m stuck with FireAlpaca(which is okay, but it isn’t what I need), I’m also stuck with a 2011 MacBook Pro, and the tickets aren’t something that I *really* need, but tbh it’d be nice to have someone come visit me that isn’t just here for the family or for both me and my mom...

finally picking up my tablet for the first time in like.... months.... ;w; gon work on my nuzlocke!!!

however, I kinda have a dilemma 

so I have the first chapter all scripted out, all sketched out, everything just needs to be inked and colored and everything. I decided on doing comic/manga page style (instead of how most nuz chapters are super thin and SUPER long)- and I have 10 pages for this chapter... 3 of which are 100% done and colored. still have 7 pages to go...

buuuttt, I’ve been contemplating switching to the ‘other’ nuz style? instead of having 10 pages, it’d be one long page. ...also that’d mean that those 3 pages I already finished are basically worthless lol (I guess I could try to salvage and copy/paste everything, but with different dimensions and reading style idk if it’d work out)

I originally chose comic-style chapters bcause the thought of doing way super long chapters was too intimidating, and it’d be easier to separate scenes and plan things out that way. but idk, now I’m thinking it might not work out as well in the long run? and with my single-pages I noticed it’s rly hard to start a new page when I felt so completed with the last one (as opposed to one whole page, where it doesn’t feel ‘complete’ until everything’s drawn down? if that makes sense?) idk man. plus even if it does take longer to do a chapter as one page instead of 10 (maybe, maybe not?), I guess it is a little less intimidating to think of the whole thing as ~40 pages instead of ~400 lmao. 

...I know I’m basically just talking to myself here (any input is welcome tho!) but I’m just trying to figure out what would work best for me, cause gdi I want to get this nuzlocke out! >:U I have 3 nuz stories in my mind, and while I’ve finished my first nuz, how can I even start the second if I haven’t even started the first comic? aaaaaa........

I don’t speak Art but I love the shading on your characters and how they’re lit from behind! It adds really cool depth and the colors you use for it are super fun and bold. Another thing I notice about your art is that the characters are always so expressive, especially in the eyebrows which are unique to each character and always manage to convey emotion, i find it so neat! ☺️

AAAAAA Ive just seen this (I primarily use the phone app, which as we all know at this point, is buggy as shit) but thankyou!!! I definitely plan on keeping the bold colours and interesting lighting (backlighting in particularly I agree just gives that extra pop and really cuts through a lot of the strong colour choices I usually use 😅)

Ive just switched to an iPad and procreate, from a Lenovo yoga pad and painttoolSAI, so I'm actually essentially relearning colouring especially - so this is honestly so invaluable, thankyou so much 💕 Especially as I learn the software more, I'm going to be putting out more sketchy practices as I slowly introduce and learn the tools, from sketches and basics, to lineart, to colour, and then bringing everything together so these are some amazing start points to be getting on with! 🥰
