Hello! I got a whole shelf of old Star Trek novels from a yard sale and I'm deciding which to read first. Unfortunately none of them are D. Duane. Can you tell me what other Trek novels/authors you've enjoyed?
At the moment, I have far more trek books than I've actually read, partially because I have no self-control when it comes to acquiring them, partially because, when I started to mine them for blog content, reading them started to feel like homework (I thought I put marking pages with tabs behind me after grad school). This is also tough because Diane Duane's novels tend to be far and away my favourites (Spock's World, Doctor's Orders, and The Wounded Sky are all brilliant), but you already knew that! They're also a large chunk of what I've read. I've also read a bunch of Blish novelizations and some of the movie novelizations, which are fun but don't quite count in the same way, since they are retelling known stories.
However, there are a few I can recommend. I really enjoyed A Contest of Principles by Greg Cox, which feels like a real extended TOS episode; our main trio all have plenty to do, and the relationships are very fond and very true to the series. Shell Game by Melissa Crandall also has the character relationships I'm looking for. (Actually, both of these at one point pair Spock and Bones together while Kirk angsts from the sidelines while doing his own part of the mission, which is apparently a fruitful scenario).
J.M. Dillard also knows the characters really well. I enjoyed The Lost Years a lot, though it must be said that it is basically the crew breakup novel because it bridges from the show into TMP, so you'll just have to rewatch the movies after to remember that it all turns out all right in the end.
Jean Lorrah's The Vulcan Academy Murders is fun as long as you don't go in expecting a mystery you can't solve in 30 seconds and just want to appreciate the characters and learn more about Sarek and Amanda.
Brad Ferguson's Crisis on Centaurus is worth it for the backstory look into Jim and Bones' first meeting, as well as giving us some time with Joanna McCoy.
I can't actually fully recommend Carmen Carter's Dreams of the Raven, which has a very strange and queasily unethical romance subplot that doesn't land for several reasons and an unsatisfying ending, but it's an interesting look into McCoy with amnesia (and it did let me coin the term "Character Fondness Power Differential" while writing the review).
This ask did, however, remind me that I need to start making a dent in my book collection before buying more (I store them where I can't see them, so I'm constantly surprised by how many I actually have). I think I'm reading Howard Weinstein's The Covenant of the Crown next.
If you search my "trek books" tag, you'll see more!

You know that trope when some drastic change happens only for it to be retconned by the end of the episode? Well if/when we do get a prequel Bad Guys series, I would like to see a scenario where Snake is the one to motivate his friends to go good after he saves someone (bonus, if it's The Chief). Even if something crazy happens that gives everyone amnesia.
Like this would be a nice episode to reinforce that Snake and the others are truly good deep down. It also be interesting to see how Wolf and the others would react when Snake abruptly wants to leave the criminal life. This episode can go all out and have it so that everyone in the city including The Chief, likes the Bad Guys. However something crazy/supernatural thing happens that sets everything back to the way it was before. Comedic timing would be just as The Chief is about to give Snake the Golden Dolphin or something. XD
It be fun and would show the audience what good the Bad Guys are truly capable of and that they are able to turn their lives around without Marmalade or Diane's help.

reminding myself of things I liked in twin peaks the return because I'm disheartened by the ending
gordon's more realistic/modern depiction of hearing aids. Especially the turning up and down depending on the situation. It makes more sense that he's finally able to not be shouting constantly. Unrelated but the way he shouts to hear himself in all canon reminds me of my grandma who does that sometimes.
Diane's "fuck you (name)". I can just imagine her passive aggression in the office when she worked there but having a soft spot for coop. (Even if I don't care much for the romance also they're very sweet together for the brief like. Two scenes where they're actually okay together)
sonny-jim. he's like maybe one of the most understanding about his dad's disability tbh
Cooper's love for coffee still showing through the amnesia via reaching out for coffee with both hands and slurping as quickly as possible. I think I've done it with chocolate milk before :')
Matthew Lillard's performance
The mafia(?) Mobster (?) Brothers who despite their intro and the fact they plan to kill Dougie are like. Just nice guys ???
Hawk and Margaret's interactions. Especially The Last One which made me tear up. like. God these two were good friends.
Ed and Norma finally otp fr 🥰🥰🥰
Bobby being well adjusted but still kinda goofy. (No acknowledgement that he killed a guy but he's in law enforcement? I haven't read all the supplementary material yet )
GOD. Ben Horne being the long suffering well adjusted dude. It's such a contrast to his scheming in the original series. He's just Normal but also still retains his personality? Idk how to explain it. I always liked him in a villain way and it's nice to see his redemption just ended up with. Normal? I guess. Idk how to make it make sense.
JERRY BEING A WEED BUSINESS MAN
JERRY GETTING LOST IN THE WOODS WHILE HIGH
Mr. C/ Evil Coop was so amazing. I hated him and loved him. I do wish there were more hints of the insanity from the Hows Annie scene but the arm wrestling scene where he's like "this position is more comfortable don't you think.?" Is such a good scene.
Frank Truman's patience. "no this is his brother, Frank."
The scene with Andy and Lucy buying the seat for their study is such fucking domestic love I've ever scene. It reminded me of my parents like 10 years ago.
The way that the original music was used very carefully because this show is more quiet in terms of background music that it's like oh god.
Bobby's reaction to seeing Lauras evidence all over the table because 1. It's a contrast to his reaction at the funeral which was mostly anger 2. How else would you react to seeing all the literal evidence from you hs girlfriends murder case ?
Norma and Shellys relationship
Shelly getting on the front of that car. Milf moments. (Oh god saying that-)
Despite what follows after; Coopers triumphet return....(the return.?) Is great.
Anyway there's lots of stuff I liked despite things. Feel free to add your own likes in a reblog cause I missed tons of things obvs :)

What happens if Meliodas never betrayed the demon race?
With the demon race winning and becoming more dangerous with Meliodas in their side. The goddesses race decided to seal them all thus losing their physical form.
The og gowther won't sacrifice himself to stop the holy war and still might be with the TC. The vampires still got sealed since even without Mel's betrayal they fought back or Zeldris sealed the vampire race so they won't get affected by the war and Gelda.
How would Britannia survive?
Honestly not sure. Maybe The sins will still formed but Elizabeth would be the leader. How? Well, the SD gave Eli immortality and tasked her to look after the seal so the demon race won't be resurrected.
I would like this au because I love evil baddass Mel and demon gowther and Mel friendship maybe even brother bonding between Zeldris and Meliodas since there is no Estarossa.
You can't tell me otherwise that Gowther doesn't stay by Mel side and is his best friend, the one he is most comfortable off, and everyone knows that. It was obvious.
When the TC got resurrected, Gowther was beside Mel as they listen Fraudrin talking, informing them what happened for 3000 years even in Edinburgh.
If Meliodas never betrayed the clan, things would be VERY different. For one... he and Elizabeth would never be in love, nor would the Sins actually exist! At least... not in the same way they do now, at least. The series as a whole would be fundamentally changed because there would BE no Great Holy War, there would be no Giant and Fairy King Drole and Gloxinia joining the Commandments, which would mean that King's disappearance and resulting amnesia wouldn't result in Elaine being the only one to protect the Great Forest and Fountain of Youth, meaning Ban would never have had to drink the Fountain, because Gloxinia would still be around.
With Drole around than there's a chance Diane wouldn't have had to suffer as much as she did growing up and might not have been abandoned because Diane would be very much like Drole. Even if he isn't present, the actions and events affecting her would change as well because he would most certainly challenge the death of Matrona, even if she isn't a queen she was at the very least one of his chieftains, and he wouldn't have let Diane simply take the fault for her death simply because she was present. The political world would look completely different!
That's not even getting into the changes from Demon Clan and Goddess Clans or the changes humans would have because, with no Great Holy War, there would be no sealing if the demon clan. The way magic worked would be fundamentally different. Humans would not have nearly as much power as they have on present-day Brittania! Even if they did get sealed and war did happen anyways, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad as it had been when Meliodas had betrayed the clan. There'd also be no Estarossa, and Elizabeth probably wouldn't even NEED immortality because she'd have never been resurrected as a human and would have retained her goddess form, effectively making her immortal anyways!

god frickin damn it...
so I hate getting involved in internet discourse, I try not to do that ranting thing, I don't like the feeling of conflict. you lot frickin scare me...
but...
Today I read- for the second time mind you, I let it go the first time- this post about the age gaps in 7DS. It was written in respond to the "Jericho situation" but called out several instances where characters were weird in this way, such as that time right after Danafall where Meliodas called a literal baby Elizabeth "my woman"...
But this isn't about Meliodas, it's not even about Jericho, cuz hunny I'm not touchin that one...Not yet anyway, I haven't reached a point where I'm frustrated enough to go into that (but I am close thanks to another stupid post I read)
No, this is about King and Diane. Note that I call King by his real name almost exclusively, so from here he'll be referred to as Harlequin. For the sake of everyone who doesn't give a damn, and I truly don't blame you, I'll put a read more cuz I don't know how long this is gonna get...
This poster seemed to feel like the 500 years Harlequin and Diane spent together after the "Helbram incident" while Harlequin had amnesia counts as "him raising her". Excuse me...that's not how either of those races work...
I'll be generally disregarding the actual numbers here, because not only do the numbers tell us very little about the stages of maturity for these races, but Fairies and Giants also mature at different rates in relation to each other, so the math wouldn't really prove anything.
For one thing, Diane isn't a toddler here. At this point, despite her general naive nature, she's probably more like the equivalent of an 11 or 12 year old. Diane has a naive personality as a fully grown adult. It's just her personality. The fact that Harlequin knows more about the world then her, does not automatically parentify him...
Harlequin on the other hand, yes is older than Diane. But not by very much from a maturity standpoint. Fairies are basically kids till they get their wings. Like that's how their physiology works. Harlequin is, not just emotionally but also physically, immature for almost the entire series. That's why he behaves like that. During the series, which is 500 years after the incident in question remember, Harlequin is basically a teenager. Which is why he acts like one.
During his time with Diane he's equal to probably a 14 year old. Still a little squiggy age gap wise, when you think of it in those terms. A 14 year old and a 12 year old seems a little off by modern-day human standards. But for what they are, an immature Fairy and an immature Giant, they've always been in similar places as far as mental/emotional maturity goes.
bottom line?
He didn't raise her, they grew up together.

Naomi Watts and Laura Harring in Mulholland Dr. (David Lynch, 2001)
Cast: Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Robert Forster, Brent Briscoe, Patrick Fischler, Ann Miller, Angelo Badalamenti, Dan Hedaya, Justin Theroux, Mark Pellegrino, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lee Grant, Chad Everett. Screenplay: David Lynch. Cinematography: Peter Deming. Production design: Jack Fisk. Film editing: Mary Sweeney. Music: Angelo Badalamenti.
Mulholland Dr. defies exegesis like no other film I know. Sure, you can trace its origins: Car-crash amnesia is a soap-opera trope; the mysterious mobsters and other manipulators are film noir staples; the portrayal of Hollywood as a nightmare dreamland is straight from Sunset Blvd. (Billy Wilder, 1950), which the film even imitates by having its before-the-credits title appear on a street sign. But writer-director David Lynch isn't out to parody the sources -- not entirely, anyway. What he is up to is harder to pinpoint. There's a part of me that thinks Lynch just wants to have fun -- a nasty kind of fun -- manipulating our responses. At the beginning, we're on to him in that regard: We laugh at the minimal conversation between the two detectives (Robert Forster and Brent Briscoe) at the crash site. We recognize the naive awe on the face of Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), as she arrives in Los Angeles, as a throwback to the old Hollywood musicals in which choruses of hopefuls arrive at the L.A. train station singing "Hooray for Hollywood!" (Has anyone ever been inspired to sing and dance when arriving at LAX?) We're delighted by the appearance of Ann Miller as the landlady, just as later we identify Lee Grant, Chad Everett, and even Billy Ray Cyrus in their cameos. Even the seemingly disjointed scenes -- the director, Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux), is bullied by the Castiglianes (Dan Hedaya and the film's composer, Angelo Badalamenti), or a man (Patrick Fischler) recounts his nightmare at a restaurant called Winkie's, or a hit man (Mark Pellegrino) murders three people -- are standard thriller stuff, designed to keep us guessing -- though at that point, having seen this sort of thing in films by Quentin Tarantino and others, we feel confident that everything will fit together. And then, suddenly, it doesn't. Betty vanishes and Diane Selwyn (Watts), whom we have thought dead, is alive. The amnesia victim known as Rita (Laura Harring) is now Camilla Rhodes, the movie star that Betty wanted to be, and Diane, Camilla's former lover, wants to kill her. It's such a complete overthrow of conventional narrative that there are really only two basic responses, neither of them quite sufficient: One is to dismiss the film as a wacked-out experiment in playing with the audience -- "a load of moronic and incoherent garbage," in the words of Rex Reed -- or to try to assimilate it into some coherent and consistent scheme, like the theory that the first two-thirds of the film are the disillusioned Diane Selwyn's dream-fantasy of what her life might have been as the fresh and talented Betty. There is truth in both extremes: Lynch is playing with the audience, and he is portraying Los Angeles as a land of dreamers. But his film will never be forced into coherence, and it can't be entirely dismissed. I think it is some kind of great film -- the Sight & Sound critics poll in 2022 ranked it at No. 8  in the list of the greatest films of all time, up from No. 28  in 2012 -- but I also think it's self-indulgent and something of a dead end when it comes to narrative filmmaking. It has moments of sheer brilliance, including a performance by Watts that is superb, but they are moments in a somewhat annoying whole.

dear yuletide writer (2022!)
Happy Yuletide! Thank you so much for writing fic for me. I'm mylittleredgirl both on ao3 and tumblr.
I’m pretty easily delighted, so do your thing and I will love it! Please take my suggestions and prompts as random ideas in case you're drawing a blank, rather than specific requests, because I love to be surprised by things i didn't even consider.
This letter has some expanded general likes/dislikes and then just a compilation of what i put in the optional details boxes. Anonymous asks are open on this tumblr if you have questions!
General things I love:
happy or hopeful endings
episode-related fic
pining (especially no-i’m-definitely-NOT-jealous pining)
hurt/comfort (especially oh-my-god-you're-not-dead)
friendship & family fic
canon divergence
smut is great but not required
kinks enjoyed: soft dom/sub (bondage & praise yes, pain & shaming no); amtdi; overindulgence (food, drinks, whatevs); masturbation (mutual, pining, whatevs); i’ve never said no to a quality blow/hand job fic
Things not so enjoyed:
character death
hurt no comfort
crossovers except within the extended canon universe (like star trek, and i suppose... reality.... is an extended canon universe for an rpf fandom...)
historical or supernatural AUs (no pride-and-prejudice or zombies)
supernatural elements are actually fine (like telepathy, psychic powers, soulmate stuff, whatever) but i specifically want to avoid zombies & vampires
character-bashing: i usually like everyone in canon, including canon love interests that are not my preferred pairing
Fandoms requested:
--
Stargate Atlantis RPF (chars: Torri, Joe)
I’m really into the temptation ~Oh No We Mustn’t~ (or the corollary: ~Oh No Looks Like We Did~) nature of this pairing.
Anything from friendship/pining to endgame OTP works for me, but I would love them to yield to temptation at least once. ;)
Prompt idea: What if Torri's with someone else and now it's Joe's turn to be jealous?
Prompt idea: Maybe one or both of them don't actually remember what happened last night...
--
Jake 2.0 (chars: Jake, Diane)
This is the rarest fandom, so there is no way you're here to write this
If you ARE here to write this, you can literally write anything and I will love you for life
Anything at all
Prompt idea: Anything to do with their amnesia almost-romance
Prompt idea: Jake and Diane ending up in the field together, where suddenly Jake is the Spy Expert (except that’s not a high bar to clear in this scenario, so probably Kyle has to rescue them both)
Prompt idea: "Future-fic" from the show's point of view. How does the nanite premise work with our modern smart-everything technology? What mischief does Jake get up to? Alternately: how might it harm him?
--
Lost in Space (chars: Maureen, John)
The Robinsons are good for all moods and ratings!
I love family and parenting stories, so feel free to include any/all of their family/found family.
Angst is fine along the way, but happy endings only for the Robinsons please 💗
John and Maureen are Very Sexy in a consensual kink sort of way.
Prompt idea: How do they restore and reward each other after these acts of heroism and genius that take so much out of them?
Fandom-specific DNW beyond the general ones listed up top: incest; any age-inappropriate relationships for Will or Penny; not super into Don/Judy but I can live with it; I believe The Robot Does Not And Should Not Fuck.
Fandom-specific likes: the soft D/s I usually enjoy can go pretty hard for this pairing, but I prefer it limited to the bedroom rather than a 24-hour scene
--
Cheers (chars: Sam, Diane)
This couple is an absolute disaster, but I would have loved them to annoy each other til death do they part
Partly to protect the rest of the world from having to date either one of them tbh
Really anything at any part of their relationship would be wonderful
Prompt idea: What if we ignore canon and they actually stay in touch during / she actually comes back after her writing retreat like she promised 🥺
Prompt idea: Also can you imagine her co-owning the bar, like can you imagine.
Prompt idea: For an angstier mood, how do they support each other (well or very badly) in the ongoing mental health & addiction challenges that probably won't entirely go away?
--
Lower Decks (char: Mariner)
I love all everyone, literally, all of them so much, both the lower deckers and the bridge crew. Please use as many of them as you like!
Gen fic preferred for this fandom.
I don't ship Mariner & Boimler romantically, but they are platonic besties for life.
All the friendships on this show are legendary.
Prompt idea: One of those odd-couple characters-all-stuck-with-random-partners stories (like "Disaster" or "Starship Down," but not necessarily a disaster), especially if Mariner gets stuck with her mom.
Prompt idea: Mariner in the background of a DS9 episode, especially an episode with Shenanigans.
Fandom-specific notes: I usually DNW historical AUs, but time-travel and holodeck shenanigans are welcome!
Fandom-specific likes: gen-fic, shenanigans, crossovers with other Star Trek canon.
--
Twin Peaks (chars: Cooper, Harry, Audrey)
I prefer fic that primarily uses canon from the first two TV seasons, since I haven't seen "The Return" yet (but if you do use season three, spoilers are totally fine).
I listed Audrey, Cooper, and Harry because I love them all, but you don't need to include all three.
I ship Cooper with both Harry and Audrey, but with Audrey/Cooper I'd like it to recognize that Dale Cooper is an Upstanding Morally Responsible FBI Agent and he would have to wrestle with that.
Gen fic is fine too (Cooper/Twin Peaks otp?).
Canon divergent AUs are welcome.
Prompt idea: In a canon-divergent AU where Cooper doesn't end up in the lodge for 25 years, his evolving divided loyalties between his life in the FBI and his heart in Twin Peaks.
Prompt idea: Harry wants to rescue Cooper, but he's going to need help.
Prompt idea: Cooper needs Audrey's help with an undercover assignment.
--
Thank you again for being forced by the matching algorithm to write for me! Happy Yuletide!

HIS5067 - Lit Review/Discussion Prep #6
In 2011, the New Museum in New York City presented the exhibition “Cronocaos.” Initially organized by architects Rem Koolhaas and Shohei Shigematsu for the 2010 Venice Biennale – a renowned international exhibition of art and architecture – “Cronocaos” claimed to “[examine] the growing ‘empire’ of preservation and [analyze] the consequences of these regimes for how we build, rebuild, and how we remember” (New Museum 2011). “Cronocaos” – a term coined by Koolhaas to describe the increasing significance of heritage in how people view and remember the past – is a visual manifesto that challenges the collapsing boundaries between preservation, construction, and demolition. The exhibition represents one of the challenges scholars and practitioners must confront in addressing the scope, role, and responsibility of cultural resource management (CRM). In the following post, I situate “Cronocaos” within the historiography of historic preservation detailed by Diane Lea and Robert Stipe as well as Thomas Cauvin’s observations on the intersections between historic preservation and public history.
Tumblr media
"Cronocaos" Installation View, New Museum Digital Archive, 2011.
Although a comparatively recent exhibition, “Cronocaos” reflects a complex and evolving history of social, political, and economic concerns with preservation. In A Richer Heritage: Historic Preservation in the Twenty-First Century, scholars Diane Lea and Robert Stipe trace the major milestones of the discipline. In the United States, historic preservation originated in the nineteenth century, when women’s societies such as the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association set a galvanizing precedent for the care of historic sites (Lea 2003, 2). Throughout the twentieth century, local/regional enthusiasm fueled federal legislation such as the New Deal and the Historic Sites Act of 1935, and (post World War II) the Housing Act of 1949 and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Although by the 1980s, historic preservation also included “intangible cultural heritage,” political shifts resulted in a renewed focus on individual/local support for projects (and away from government sponsored advocacy) (Lea 2003, 14). These evolving relationships reflect continuous debate concerning what constitutes as “significance” for a historic site.  As Lea asserts, “the changing demographics and settlement patterns of the nation, the rise of a technology-oriented society, and a pervasive decline in public interest in our history and in the teaching of it now constitute some of the major challenges facing the preservation field” (Lea 2003, 17). Within this context, “Cronocaos” taps into a central argument.
“Cronocaos” underscore what its organizers fear as the detrimental, “sanitizing” impact of preservation in architecture and a new, alienating form of “historical amnesia” (Ouroussoff 2011). According to scholars like Robert Stipe, in order to constructively challenge the field (at least in the United States) one must understand the preservation system itself. Fundamental concepts of the system include the structure of the U.S. federal government, the multipronged preservation-conservation process, and the capitalist free market economy (Stipe 2003, 24). As an international exhibition, Koolhaas’s and Shigematsu’s project seems particularly relevant to Stipe’s latter two points. “Cronocaos” asserts that erasing the signs of age in a building not only scrub its identity over time but also that of its surrounding community – particularly when gentrification pushes out local residents in favor of increasing market value.
Mirroring its origins in grassroots public engagement, historic preservation has a direct impact on public perception. For Thomas Cauvin, this relationship necessitates that public historians take a central role in mediating these discussions. He argues that “the links between historic preservation and public history are threefold: the relevance of place, the role played by communities and interdisciplinary partners, and the different uses of the past” (Cauvin 2016, 56). Given the complexities of defining preservation, Cauvin makes a distinction between stabilization/preservation, protecting a site without significantly altering it, and rehabilitation, which focuses on a site’s reuse (Cauvin 2016, 57). In either case, the character of a site and its relevance to community can assist in broaching considerations for its future. Activism has been an important galvanizing force in the field of historic preservation, and as a result, exhibitions such as “Cronocaos” illustrate the potential that museum practice can have in calls for public advocacy and interrogation.

Clan swap + role swap AU: Fairy clan Elizabeth
(Swapped with King)
Tumblr media
So because she’s swapped with Harlequin, she’s now the queen of the fairy king’s forest. Elizabeth had amnesia briefly and met Meliodas and his brother Zeldris (giants in this au) when they were both kids, Meliodas nursing her back to health.
They all played games together every day, made them new clothes and she became especially close with the blonde giant. Ellie eventually developed a large crush on him. The fairy literally burst into tears of happiness when he had gifted her with a bracelet. (though Mel tried to make it as small as possible it was still way bigger than her wrist, but she just wrapped round a few times so it would fit, Elizabeth still wears it all the time)
Then she regained her memories and Helbram happened, so Elizabeth ultimately decided to erase Zel and Mel’s memories of her.
Elizabeth got arrested by the Holy Knights and gets recruited into the seven deadly sins as the the sin of sloth, she transforms herself into a human like disguise. Elizabeth didn’t expect to see Meliodas ever again, so imagine her surprise when she sees Meliodas all grown up being sentenced to death for murdering another giant and a bunch of holy knights out of cold blood.
He got recruited as the sin of Envy and Elizabeth made her nervous introduction and of course the giant doesn’t recognise her at all, in fact Meliodas became very interested in the captain completely to Elizabeth’s utter misery.
She didn’t hate Diane by any means but it didn’t mean that she wasn’t jealous of her. Elizabeth’s actually happy that Meliodas has found someone to fall in love with, but that didn’t stop herself from dying inside whenever she saw Meliodas staring at Diane with a lovesick expression.
Yep perfectly happy.
(I’m obviously gonna change a lot of parts in the story to suite them more and also add a few scenes as well but it’s past midnight rn and my brain isn’t working so another day)

OCs Masterlist
[this masterlist is under construction ^^]
Main story - novel "Dead Men Talk Way Too Much"
Tumblr media
Camille "Desden" Dessaigne
Camille is a unisex name in French - he's a man. He's the main character of this story. Desden wants a simple life, loves to cook, his dog, his friends and family. He's a soft, funny guy, but can be very closed off and sarcastic, cynical even, if you get him the wrong way.
Tumblr media
31 yo, 1,98m (6'5), brown short hair, blue eyes.
Distinctive signs : a big lock of white hair at the back of the head (left side), bumpy nose, freckles.

Faceclaim : Matthew Macfadyen (as Tom Quinn or Paul Prior)

"How did he come to lose his memories?" Zeldris asked, glancing down at the still trembling Straw, "Do you... do you know anything of it?"
"I... I remember a lot of loud noise... and someone apologizing to me. After thay nothing." Straw explained, "They called me 'Captain.'"
The present Sins all stared at each other in alarm.
"But..." Diane chewed her lip, "The only people who would call you thay is us!"
"None of us would have done that though! You told us to scatter when the tower was attacked by the Holy Knights after we found Zaratrus' body. That's the last any of us had seen of you until you came looking for us!" King affirmed.
Merlin cleared her throat,
"That's not entirely true, King." She admitted, "I had been the one to strike that captain at that time. It had been necessary, shortly after you lot had ran off Meliodas had a similar breakdown to the one Straw just had. Had I not acted, well... we'd have a repeat of the Captain's Sin on our hands."
"The Captain's..."
"Sin!?"
Zeldris noted the way the Sins all tensed up at the mention of Meliodas' sin, resolving to find out what that meant. Whatever it was, it seemed significant. For now he focused on the more pressing issue,
"So you're the reason he has amnesia?"
"Presumably, although by no intention of mine. I'm sure you understand that, had Meliodas been allowed to run rampant, the result would have been disastrous Prince Zeldris." Merlin explained, giving Elizabeth a significant look, "He was, afterall, reacting in defense of a certain young princess who bears a remarkable resemblance of his deceased mate being injured in the attack."
Zeldris took a deep breathe, catching on to Merlin's meaning. He would need to... take some time to process that. He co tinied with his questions,
"Are you also the reason his power had weakened?"
Instantly everyone's eyes snapped to Merlin. To the humans they were horrified, having realized that this wasn't even a fraction of Meliodas' power. Merlin nodded,
"I had the majority of his power sealed away. I... did not wish to risk another breakdown while Meliodas was separated from his anchors."
"His anchors?" Zeldris asked.
"Us Sins", Merlin explained, "most of us probably didn't know, but we kept Captain emotionally grounded and prevented his magic from going out of control like it just did."
The other Sins were surprised to hear that and Straw as well. It's true that he had been feeling more at ease with the Sins around, even if he didn't remember them.

Leave Everything Behind But Me Part 5- (Diane Sherman x fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
Woooooow I’ve been MIA. Life has been crazy.
It’s been a while since I’ve updated this fic but I thought I’d give it a go.
all the usual trigger warnings for this fic (stalking, drugging, sickness, also amnesia for this one). Also there’s a big twist that’s kinda messed up. I also apologize that this chapter is so short, there’s a lot that’s probably gonna need be explained in Part 6.
You were terrified as you heard Diane’s footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Diane- can we please just talk? I just want to talk to you.”
Diane put down the bottle on the table and sat beside you.
“What was it you wanted to say to me, my sweet girl?”
“I love you, Diane. I want everything to just be normal. I want to live a normal life with you and help you like you helped me. Please. I’m just so scared of whatever is in that. I don’t want it-”
“But without it, you’ll run away.”
“No, Diane. I won’t. Please. One day. Just give me one day. I want to help you get better from whatever- whatever this is. You’re the only one who’s ever needed me. Please-”
“I know you’re scared now, sweetheart. But I promise, it won’t hurt a bit. You won’t remember a thing. And after, we can be happy. Your fears, your doubts, they’ll all go away...”
“I want the same thing as you, Diane. You don’t have to do this! We can get help, we can get better, I can show you that you don’t have to hurt me to get me to love you! I’ll still-”
“I never hurt you!” Diane stood up and screamed. “I saved you! I protected you, you were- you were sick!”
Diane went over to the table and continued mixing together chemicals and you started to cry.
“Don’t cry, my sweet girl. It’ll all be okay...”
“What will it do to me? Will it hurt me? Will it do something to my head?”
“No, baby... you’ll just forget. Don’t you want so badly to forget? I do. I want to forget your pain and sadness... it hurts me so badly to see. My poor girl.”
Diane checked everything and picked up a syringe. She started filling it up with something. Your breathing became faster and you started to hyperventilate. You didn’t know what to do. You tried pulling at the chains, but you knew it wouldn’t work. Unless you could convince Diane to let you go, which would never happen, you would never be able to escape. Diane started towards you and you screamed.
“Shhhhh.... it’s okay... I won’t hurt you... come on...”
“Why are you doing this to me, Diane? I - I thought you loved me...”
“I do love you, (y/n). I love you more than anything. I love you too much and I am doing this out of love. I am doing this so that we can be together and be happy. Shhhh… just relax. Just cooperate with me…”
“Why…. Don’t you… don’t you love me… I’m scared… I don’t want you to hurt me...”
“I love you! I do! This won’t hurt you, or do whatever you think. I promise. Okay? It’ll calm you down. It’ll make everything go back to the way it was. Don’t you want that?”
You were so tired of fighting Diane. You loved her. You wanted everything to go back. You had no escape.
“Yes… I do… I just want- I want everything to be normal again.”
“Me too, darling. This will make that happen. Let me give you what you want, sweet girl.”
You felt a sharp sensation, and then drifted off into Diane’s arms.
You woke up in a bedroom you didn’t recognize, on a king sized bed. A woman with long red hair walked in.
“(Y/n)! You’re finally awake! I missed you, baby…”
“Thank you… um…. I- I’m sorry.”
“You’ve forgotten, haven’t you honey? I’m Diane. I’m your wife. But you’re so young, and so sick… so I became your caretaker as well. I’ll help you remember everything.”
“Di- Diane. Nice to meet you…”
“We’ve met, honey. We share this bed. A few weeks ago, you hit your head. You’ve been knocked out ever since. The hospital let me take you home yesterday, and, well, there you are! Awake and healthy…”
“But I can’t remember… anything…”
“You’ll get there, baby. I promise.”
You felt terrible. Your wife, your kind, loving wife was there taking care of you and you couldn’t remember her at all. You wanted to do everything you possibly could to get to know the beautiful woman you had just met, and maybe even remember her. You tried to get up, but was met with insane lightheadedness and fell over.
“Honey, let me help you! Do you wanna go to the living room? I’ll make you some tea or something, and we can talk.”
“I would like that, Diane. So much. I’m sorry I forgot you, you must be...”
“It’s okay, honey. I know everything will be just as it was. I love you, my sweet girl.”
Diane held you throughout walking into the living room of your little house that was so unfamiliar to you. You sat on the couch next to her.
“I just want you to tell me everything, Diane.”
“Well, we met when you were on a road trip. You were alone, you were tired of your parents. We met at a cafe, and you were exhausted and sick, so I took you home. I started taking care of you, and we fell in love. You were sick all the time, poor girl. But you were still so fun, so positive, so beautiful. I was in love with you from the moment I first saw you. One day, you kissed me and then everything worked out. I was worried because you’re so young, but everything was perfect. We were meant to be together. And then we got married. It was just the two of us, but it was the best day of my life. My sweet angel, I wish you could remember it.”
“I do too... I know I feel like I’m first meeting you but- but I love you. You’re so kind. You love me and I need that... my last memory is... um... one of my last memories is being yelled at by my parents. I was alone... how- how many years did I forget?”
“I don’t know, honey. It’s been almost four years we’ve been together now.”
“Wow. I want- I wish I-”
“It’s okay, my sweet girl. We’ll make so many new memories. Let’s watch a movie. Cuddle. Okay angel?”
“Yes, Diane. I want that.”
Diane made popcorn and put on a movie, and sat right next to you. She put her arms around you and gave you a kiss. You kissed back nervously, and stroked Diane’s pretty red hair.
“You’re so beautiful, Diane. I wanna kiss you all night.”
“I want that too. God, (y/n). I’ve missed this.”
And so you did. You spent the entire night making out with Diane until she took you to bed and you fell asleep in each other’s arms. The next day, she gave you a tour of the house, not including the basement or medicine cabinet
”You don’t have to worry about that stuff, baby. I know how much it stresses you.”, Diane would say, “Just leave that to me. I always take the best care of my girl.”
The house was quite small, just a living room/kitchen, a bathroom that the two of you shared, and two bedrooms, one of which was never used anymore.
”And a shower big enough for the both of us, too”, said Diane with a wink.
“Maybe tonight...” you said shyly.
“Yes, as long as you feel up to it. I would love that. I’ve missed you so much.”
The next few weeks were nice. You were getting to know your beautiful wife again, and although you thought she would be hurt that you didn’t remember anything, she didn’t seem that way at all. She seemed happy. Happy to have you back, even if you couldn’t remember a thing. This woman, your wife, loved you so much. And your guilt and sadness came back one day in full swing when you remembered something. That morning, you didn’t get out of bed after Diane told you that breakfast was ready. She came back into your bedroom and saw you crying.
“Are you okay? What’s the matter?”
“I’m sorry, Diane... I just feel so bad... I wish I could remember you... It makes me so sad thinking that you- you love me and you’ve taken care of me for four years and I only remember a couple of weeks! I’m sorry... I feel like I hurt you. I just want all my memories back so bad...”
“Sweetheart... it isn’t your fault. You got hurt, that’s all. I understand it didn’t have anything to do with me.”
“But our- our wedding! I can’t even remember our wedding! You told me it was so beautiful and amazing and the best day of your life. It was probably the best day of my life too and I- I can’t remember it!” you started to cry again.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you somehow, I promise.”

I swear seven deadly sins has the best ships of any show I've watched. Like usually I find ships in fanfiction really fun because I'm not that invested in the canon ships. But I prefer the canon ships over fics for once here. Kiane especially is such a good ship. All of the drama without misunderstandings or annoying tropes. Just battle partners with amnesia
And even if I'm less invested in it, Melizabeth and Banlaine are also fantastic ships. I've never seen a show with so many high quality ships. Each has a totally different dynamic but each is great. Kiane has the childhood friends, amnesia angst, slow burn, and becoming strong for each other tropes. Melizabeth has Romeo and Juliet at the start with curse angst, soulmate esque vibes, some really domestic elements, and a lot of cute hugs. Banlaine has love at first week, ressurection for love, rescuing each other from depression, and her sacrifice literally giving him strength.
On top of that each ship has different size and appearance dynamics and they all do the protectiveness and fighting for love things in different but unique ways. I especially love how Kiane has them both being really protective but never does the thing where Diane says "you don't need to protect me king I'm a capable fighter". Because he knows she's capable but still wants to protect her and that feeling is mutual.
The strength of these relationships makes sense when considering how strong all the characters and their interpersonal relationships are in the show but it's still impressive

Undo my ESC 2021 - Semi-final 1
Good afternoon, folks! Every year, I take a look at each semi-final and share what feasible change I would make – as small as changing a few lines of the song or an element of staging, or as big as a different song completely winning a national final – to make it even better (just in my own opinion of course!) This year will be harder than usual, but I’ll try to set aside my conviction that every 2020 artist should have been able to return to see how different SF1 might look. Let’s go!
🇱🇹 Lithuania: PiN was in the Roop's hands, and whilst I fell in love with some of the underdog songs they were up again, most notably Home and Never fall for you again I wouldn't take away the chance away from the Roop. There's nothing I'd change about Discoteque, and I love their nod to On fire, but the way that they also took things in a different direction to last time.
🇸🇮 Slovenia: I may be in a small minority, but I absolutely love Amen and I loved Voda too! Ana Soklič has so much presence and stunning vocals with so much texture and depth; she can sell me pretty much everything. My only change would be to insert Slovenian language lyrics!
🇷🇺 Russia: I was initially really disappointed that we wouldn't see the iconic Little Big on the ESC stage - but I commend the way they wanted to share the limelight with other artists. The unexpected Russian mini-NF ended up being a revelation and very diverse for its size. I liked all three songs, but I think that the best hands down won. There is nothing I have to change to Russian woman, one of the most powerful propositions of the season for me. I just hope juries will value it and we won't see a Telemóveis style situation!
🇸🇪 Sweden: After a year of being happy with the result in Sweden - I was always in Dotter's corner, but who can't love the Mamas? - we return to more familiar terrain of an MF result disgruntling me. Tusse has charisma and talent, but his song is lacklustre at best for me. My fav was, once again, Dotter, and I wish that either she'd taken the win or that the Mamas got their shot at ESC as main artists.
🇦🇺 Australia: I really enjoy Technicolour, one of the more out-of-left-field entries from Oz. I am so intrigued as to what the Diane Warren song offered to Montaigne was like, as I'm certain that this isn't it, but I'm glad she trusted her gut and went for something so distinctive. My one change would be to get rid of the unnecessary key change at the end.
🇲🇰 Macedonia: When there was a nationalistic furore with attempts to stop Vasil from representing MK, I was entirely on his side even though his song for me is one of the least appealing of the edition. I'd still want him to get his chance at ESC - but his Sudbina would have been such a more compelling entry for my taste.
🇮🇪 Ireland: Lesley Roy served nostalgic pop wonderment for the second year in a row, and another song that has etched itself already onto my life's soundtrack. I don't know what I'd change, except perhaps translate one of the choruses into Irish Gaelic - it'd make the message of a return to home even more resonant for me.
🇨🇾 Cyprus: Cyprus and I haven't seen eye to eye for several years now, and it's a shame as they were one of my favourite countries of the 90s. I do enjoy El diablo more than their last trio of songs, but I find it leans too heavy on a clear inspiration from Gaga, which takes away from some of the more original elements of the song. So, I'd rework the chorus, and also change some of the lyrics elsewhere because some lines just flat out make me cringe.
🇳🇴 Norway: I seem to have been in the minority of people delighted at MGP's final results! I had bigger favourites - the rambunctious sea shanty that is Vi er Norge, the kickass empowering Witch woods or the pulsating groove of Playing with fire - but I wouldn't take Tix' win away from him given how meaningful it was for him and what the guy has been through. My change? Revert partially or entirely to the Norwegian version, Ut av mørket; for me, it hits my heart harder.
🇭🇷 Croatia: Sincerely, my biggest disappointment of the NF season potentially - I wish Damir had been internally selected, not just because of my wish to see all ESC'20 alumni return, but because his was the best Croatian song for me since Moja štikla. Tick-tock is harmless but if we can't get a Damir return in this hypothesis, then I'd go for Rijeka, which captivated me with its epicness on first listen and has just risen in my estimation since. Though, given Nina's histrionics after coming second, maybe I'd have Albina perform the song instead.
🇧🇪 Belgium: I was prepared to not be on board with Belgium this year despite my long-lived love for the country - I found Release me, whilst orchestrated beautifully, entirely lacking in dynamism; and I really couldn't stand the way the band dumped Luka unceremoniously. And yet... this lush piece of art is one of my favs of the entire season. And there's something different and singular in Geike's voice. So the only thing I'm changing here are the dudes' attitudes to ESC so that they can value it more, especially Alex.
🇮🇱 Israël: As one of the most naturally charismatic performers of 2020, I had high hopes for Eden's return and the original idea of a mega-NF for her seemed really promising. Instead, we ended up with an uninspired strewing of songs, of which the best didn't even get the chance to be recorded by her. Set me free was my favourite of the three that got to the final, but I feel they've really worsened it with the revamp, in between the hail mary pass of the whistle vote and the extra emphasis on "I'mma". I would have Eden perform Shoulders instead - I don't know how it NQd and think it would allow her to showcase her personality a lot more.
🇷🇴 Romania: I really enjoyed Roxen's selection last year - small but quite diverse, and I felt the best song won. My change would be to have seen a similar national final with 3 or 4 other songs of hers this time, because I'm not convinced in Amnesia anywhere near as much as I was of Alcohol you.
🇦🇿 Azerbaijan: I wish they had gone with something at least a bit different rather than this cut, smudge and paste from last year that is so on the nose with its "you loved Cleopatra, so you will love this, won't you?" feel that it even namechecks the previous song. Efendi has a lot of talent and could have shown more diversity here.
🇺🇦 Ukraine: I'm getting used to the surprise revamp of Šum by now, but the question still remains for me, why did they do it? They needed to cut about a minute off the duration of the track, but to me, that doesn't explain why they also had to change the melody in large parts of the song. I'd be tempted to revert to a shortened form version of Šum version 1.
🇲🇹 Malta: Another unpopular opinion, but I'm just not that into the Maltese song this year. The lyrics are great and Destiny has poise and presence and PIPES and I'm sure she'll do well, but the style - a glammed up Electro-Velvet, essentially - doesn't heat me up, and I feel like the different parts of the composition are too dissonant from each other, like we have 2 or 3 songs in one here. My change would be for her to have gone with something more soul-ish in its sound, like AOML was.
And the AQs of this semi
🇩🇪 Germany: How did juries decide upon this, especially when there seems to have been many promising artists in the German selection? No shade against Jendrick who seems like a lovely chap, but the song sounds like the cheerful four chords on a ukulele you hear repeated as royalty free background music on Youtube tutorials, merged with a post-chorus breakdown taken from a Stefan Raab b-side. I would have gotten out my phone book and given Lilly among clouds a call - she gives me the vibes of being able to create something totally show-stopping.
🇳🇱 Netherlands: My original slight disappointment at this was more because of how high I have Grow than any fault of its own. It's another gorgeous composition from Jeangu, with probably the best set of lyrics of the year, and this is going to be a moment. I change nothing.
🇮🇹 Italy: I like Måneskin and their performances at Sanremo were brilliant - but they were far from being at the top of my favourites list. I would have given the win to Madame with Voce, or Ermal with Un milione di cose da dirti. Both would have been my #1 of the entire year, both move me deeply. Madame showcases contemporary Italian style with classic songwriting, whilst Ermal almost created a companion piece to Fai rumore - Diodato wanted to hear the sound of his loved one, whilst Ermal struggles to make a noise and say what he feels about his love.
Join me soon as I take a look at SF2 and its songs (and France, Spain and the UK, the auto-qualifiers from that semi!)
