It's how Akin feels the weight of the world on his shoulders and when Jin asked him to reject him was when he finally shattered because the rest is hard but that was simply impossible. He was so lost, clinging to anything he could for the sake of normalcy. He kept his best smile he could during the press conferences and wore the same mask he's worn for so many years... but he couldn't keep that up with Jin, not alone, not when it was the two of them and no one else and he was fighting all the expectations that were trapping him and it's only with Jin that he can shatter. And Jin meets his shatter with care and tenderness and gives him the soft landing he needed but could never ask for from anyone.

Jin simply wants to exist with Akin. He would do whatever Akin chose if it meant being able to be with him. But Akin... this is his grandmother's legacy, this is what he does, this is how he finds his value. Jin's first love is Akin but Akin's first passion is still acting.

Jin shares the crown because he wants to be Akin's equal in all ways and to share his heart and life. But Akin shatters because he takes his value from the way the world views him and sharing the crown isn't the reality of how they see him.

(Jin worked entirely to get to Akin's level so he could face him again as an equal but Akin needs that validation because he has come to rely on it for his self worth.)

I really love Akin as a character. But because he is such a good character I simultaneously am endeared by his struggle to open himself up to Jin and also feeling the dread (tm) about his pride inevitably getting in the way.

He's so used to that external validation, but it's something that would have stopped eventually anyway so who better to be the one to "dethrone" him than Jin, the man who admires him and loves him?

You see Akin start to toy with the idea that maybe there could be happiness in his life while being his authentic self, but at the same time you can feel how fragile he is, how difficult it is for him to find value in himself if he's not the center of the public's attention.

It could come off as obnoxious or petty, but when you see him contrasted with Jin who is so self assured, so comfortable in his own skin, so able to take criticism or scrutiny, it's impossible to not sympathize with Akin.

If you always believe you are one step away from not measuring up, how do you love the person whose mere existence incites comparisons where you fall short?
