I've expanded the instructions I gave for apologizing into a detailed listicle. I hope it'll be helpful. Some of the points, however, are very specific to the English language.
1. Don't explain what happened, it will sound like you're justifying your actions. And because of the way our brains work, you're likely to actually start justifying your actions. At that point, you're no longer apologizing. Remind yourself that the apology needs to have priority right now, and that there will be time later to identify causes and solutions.
2. Be specific, or at least use more words than "I'm sorry." "Sorry" is used so often as a polite noise, nearly meaningless, that it's difficult to be sincere, or even sound sincere when using it for a formal apology. Again, this ties into what @theconcealedweapon wrote: we're trained to say "sorry" when we don't mean it, so that becomes the core of the word's meaning, without our even realizing it. And if you're Australian, it gets even worse!
Personally, I use "I apologize" or "My apologies," or in dire circumstances, "Please accept my apology." This allows me to break my conditioning and focus on my genuine contrition, as well as making it clear to others that I'm taking the apology seriously.
3. Apologize for what you did, and absolutely NOT how it made someone feel. The latter is often used for manipulation.
Other things not to apologize for:
that the consequences of your actions happened
what you don't like about the person or group you're apologizing to
being right
being better than the people you're apologizing to
allegedly not having any idea what you're supposed to be apologizing for
...you'd think all this would go without saying, but it can be subtler than you might expect, and sometimes we do it without thinking, because we picked it up as children, from the nastier adults around us.
Instead, take a moment to focus on what you did, and how to describe it clearly in a way that accepts your fault and/or responsibility for the situation. Again, don't bring anything else into the apology, lest you make it seem less of an apology. People are so used to hearing the above crap from unrepentant people, that they will not give you the benefit of the doubt.
4. Watch your tone of voice. This is actually two separate points.
First, yet another thing we unconsciously pick up as children is the obviously sarcastic mock apology. It's not always a bad thing, it can be a joke or a verbal gesture, but you have to make sure you don't let that habit find its way into a genuine apology, and ruin it. This is where the bit about "Say it like you mean it" comes from. The easiest way to say it like you mean it is to mean it. See next paragraph.
Second, if you can't be respectful and express regret, you shouldn't be apologizing just yet. You're not ready. Leave the art of convincingly faking an apology to the con artists and cult leaders. You will probably need to just keep your mouth shut for a while. Acknowledge (to yourself) the possibility that you might change your mind later. In some rare cases, it may be possible to tell people, "I'm not ready to apologize just yet," but don't count on it.
5. (optional) If necessary and you can do it honestly, either characterize what you did, or agree with others' characterization of it, or promise to/ask how to not do it again, or multiple of the above. Say that it was wrong or inappropriate or a failure or whatever. Name people who called you out, say they were right, and repeat what they said about what you're apologizing for. If you promise not to do it again, don't pivot to talking about how great you will be in the future, keep it focused on the apology.
This might be a bit too much for less dire apologies, and you may not be able to manage this if you apologize the minute you can bring yourself to be sincere, but otherwise, you can build yourself some credibility by immediately seeking to improve yourself and make sure that YOU never do whatever-it-was again. It's more for privately apologizing to your direct supervisor, or to a friend.
On the other hand, beware of doing this if you're the authority figure, or are apologizing to a large group, because politicians routinely pivot away from making actual apologies by making big promises for the future. People are wise to this, though, and your whole apology is liable to be dismissed as bullshit if you try to use it for self-promotion.
So many people seem completely unaware of what a genuine apology is.
And that's because children are forced to say sorry on command.
Before they ever had a chance to process what they did, why they did it, what effect it had on others, or what they should have done instead, they're expected to say that they're sorry. And they're expected to "say it like you mean it" with no indication of what that even means and with no time to figure out how to phrase it correctly.
Sometimes, even when the child's actions are justified by any logical reasoning, they're expected to apologize because an authority figure demands it.
The goal of saying sorry ends up being solely to avoid punishment. And they phrase the apology in whatever way the authority figure will accept.
The result is an entire society filled with people who give completely useless apologies that appear like they're only trying to avoid punishment.

Counterintuitively, Jason trafficking drugs himself, and the way he treats drug dealers in general is actually one of the core reasons I do believe he has a real moral backbone.
In Lost Days we see him mention that he killed his small arms teacher because the smack he was dealing was poisoned. In Nightwing (2016) Annual #2 Jason is particularly violent towards their enemy because he cut his heroin with other substances, leading to his mother's first overdose. In Under the Red Hood, his most important rule is 'no selling to kids', and he is specifically employing people who do sell drugs to adults.
Playing a bit of Headcanon Jazz here - listening to the notes Jason doesn't play as much as the ones he does - It feels really notable to me that dealing drugs is not enough to get on Jason's shit list. On some level Jason thinks it's okay to deal drugs. Even more importantly: Jason doesn't at all imply that drug users are at fault - nor that they need to have the choice to use taken from them 'for their own good'. Heck, I can't remember any instance of him saying that doing drugs is a bad thing.
He has lived with and cared for someone struggling with an addiction that she died to, which would have made it really easy to take him in a 'no leniency, no tolerance, kill all drug dealers and burn all the crack so no one can smoke it' road. Yet that's the opposite of how he's operating.
And I'm putting all that together to get a Jason who firmly believes in harm reduction and that when it comes to drugs, people have a right to risk; they have a right to choose to use. I don't think it's too much further of a stretch to say that he thinks that those who do use should be supported by infrastructure ensuring that their drugs are uncut and properly dosed and that they should have safe places to use and well funded rehab options if they want to quit.
This whole thing is so important to me because it lies completely outside of his emotional conflict of 'I wasn't avenged'; it's proof that there was more to Jason's talk about running Gotham differently than simply killing people.
Factually, there are a huge number of criminal activities that could be used to improve the lives of vulnerable people.
I firmly believe that no government has the right to detain, imprison, deport, et.c. people fleeing violence and persecution in their country of origin. A criminal organization that genuinely had their best interest in mind who could provide access to new identities, jobs, housing, and paperwork for cheap could save and change hundreds of lives. Sex workers, especially survival sex workers who want to quit and move on to a new job, could benefit enormously from protection from the cops, and from landlords kicking them out, and the ability to get criminal charges purged from their records, and lots of other stuff. People who use street drugs need a lot of the same things, as do people who need access to medication but for whatever reason can't get prescriptions the legal way.
This is all stuff that is already a staple of organized crime - they just do it in ways that are insanely abusive and exploitative.
It makes sense that Jason would look at that and think he could make it work! Honestly I'd love to read a comic about him trying! He could be the pinnacle of Be Gay Do Crime! Sadly though, it's very unlikely we ever will, especially because his term as a drug lord was so incredibly short to begin with. Under the Red Hood, a tiny snippet of Robin (1993) and Green Arrow (2001) #69 - #72 is really all we get, and none of those really got into the politics of his organization either.
Tho, there is a tiny snippet we possibly see in Seeing Red, my favorite Jason run ever, and I will take any excuse to talk about it so here we go lol!
This is a comic in which Batman gets some things wrong about Jason, and might be straight up lying to Green Arrow in places too, so I don't think we can take his word for it when he says Jason is driving up the trade. Especially not when Jason hasn't given a single flying fuck about collecting wealth for himself in basically any other appearance ever.
Is he using drugs as a trading good to some capacity? Yes, that's a minor plot point here, however, I think justice is very present in his reasoning. I think Jason is being selective with which shipments he's keeping - testing each and destroying the stuff that's extra dangerous, making sure that what's getting used is as safe as it can be. Plus, he might be reducing the supply so that drug trade can't expand, while considering complete elimination to be flatly undesirable, since it could force users to go cold turkey, something that can be dangerous, or at least very painful.
Now, obviously this is still headcanon territory, we never really see into Jason's head about this specific topic, but I do feel like it's a reasonable way to fill in that gap!
Anyways, this is why I've never felt like Jason's disagreements with Bruce's methods were purely about his own emotional desires. There's too much else surrounding that which he clearly also cares about.

'How is it?', you ask, taking another bite.
'Amazing, can't believe it's the first time you cook this', his soft giggle makes you smile.
'It's not something so elaborate, this was really a cooking book and a dream situation', you chuckle as you watch him eating like he's tasting the most delicious food.
'But what's the occasion?'
'Do i need "an occasion" to cook some dinner for my boyfriend?', you raise an eyebrow.
'No baby, of course not. But this is not just some dinner, there's rose petals everywhere and that dress you're wearing...", his jaw tightens as he watches you up and down.
'You can take it off me later, don't worry', she teases him.
'Babe...', Yuki tills his head. You know you can't escape the subject anymore. In a subtle move you put your utensils aside and sighs, trying not to break your smile. 'whats wrong?'.
'I found the Tiffany box in the closet like ages ago...', Yuki's mouth opens a bit and whispers a little oh god. 'I didn't say anything about it because i love romantic surprises, but it seems like that moment never actually comes'.
After a moment of silence you get off your seat, and so does him. You stand in front of each other, gaze to gaze, admiring each other. Yuki's chest pounding in pain, guilt.
'I'm sorry. I really wanted to do it back in Suzuka but my entire family being there..., i don't know i was such a coward an i-', Yuki tries to start his speech but you cut him off, wanting to be in control not only of the situation but also of your feelings.
'It's okay, don't worry', both shake your heads. 'but the truth is, i really want to get married with you someday because i love you, i want to spend the rest of my life with you, and i really hope you think the same'.
'Baby, of course i do.', he reaches for your hands.
Your smile goes even bigger, your eyes with a bliss he never saw in you before. 'If you're ready then, well...'
Yuki watches you as you kneel in front of him. The view is angelic; your dress, your pleading and perfect face, and those eyes..., you are truly majestic.
From one of the pockets of your jacket you take out a small red velvet box and when you open it in front of him the first couple of tears start to fall down.
'Yuki Tsunoda, love of my life', you chuckle between tears. 'Will you-'
In a sudden move, Yuki kneels himself in front of you, and also takes a small box from his pocket. The famous Tiffany box from the closet. Your litle gasp makes him laugh.
'Im sorry to interrupt you, but this is hilarious.', Your laugh makes him do the same, hands notably shaking. 'should we ask at the same time?'
You nod at him, 'I would love that, yes'. Your shoulders seem to relax as you giggle again.

I'd love it if the ii remaster is something like the newer bfdia episodes.
I think jnj does a really good job of pushing the animation without it feeling completely different from the original series. They manage to keep most of the humour like the old series too :p
#Like. KEEP the old assets. But don't change the story.#bfdia proves old assets and improved animation can go hand in hand.#i dont talk abt bfdia very often but I really admire how they havent changed any of the old stupidity but the animation is just 100x better#I wldnt mind them adding things. but I think s1's most important factor is everyone is mean. they need to keep that.#inanimate insanity#talking

“There was a scene this season, and he cares so much, he gets so into it, like thinks about it, it's almost like a pain-body. We had this scene and he called me the night before and he said: ‘Some of these lines don't make sense for me for where I’m at, I need to mess with these a little bit. Here’s what I’m gonna say, I want to say this.’ He just changed some of his lines, he had kinda written his own thing. So, I had to adapt and relearn my stuff, which I’m totally okay to do as he’s brilliant. And then we get to set and he didn’t say any of those, he just made up a whole new set of lines. And I was like, okay…!”

What does your heart need from you at this moment?
Tip Jar | Masterlist | Personal Readings
Hello hello! Back with a new Pick a Pile, the third one in my 'needs from you' series. Let's see what messages your heart has for you 💚

This is a group reading, so take what resonates and leave the rest. Don't force anything if it does not fit. Remember that the future is not set in stone and that other potential paths exist depending on your movement through the course of time.
Pile 1 (Left)
Rx Queen of Cups | Four of Swords | Inner Wisdom – Odin | Three of Swords | Seven of Summer | Lapis Lazuli – Expression | Mercy | Enlightenment – Moving Forward
Immediately the Rx Queen of Cups suggests a loss of control over emotion, or maybe a lack of emotion. This is also a rather sword-focused reading. Cups govern our heat, but swords can guide it. The four suits of Tarot are not separate—they intertwine and work together to improve out lives.
In order to get back to a place of evenness, you must allow these elements to work together. It sounds contradictory, but in order to help your heart heal, it asks you to follow your mind for now. It especially wants to emphasize that recognizing and feeling grief is important for your health and that rest is necessary—not only that, but the requirement of rest is a gift to humanity.
Allowing your mind to accept new knowledge and to expand will give you the tools you need to follow your heart. The world right now seems like a lot, what with spring coming (in a physical or metaphorical sense) and all these new, budding options available to you. For now, let logic guide you with the faith that your heart will return to you when it’s ready to help guide you.
In your relations with others, you walk a tightrope between honesty and compassion. Though you seem to be the kind of person whose kind words are not competing with your honest words. Continue your march of kindness and others will soon recognize you and show their bright colors in return.
Contrary to popular believe, protection lies not in the past or what is stable and unchanging, but in the future and in your ability to move on from past events. Each step forward is another bit of strengthening for your ward.
Other messages – Kindness to all living things (and maybe even some nonliving). What goes around comes around. Your true expressions are needed. Making a decision and moving on (it’s not as big of a decision as you might think—will it matter in a year?). Solitude/pulling back to gain wisdom.
Symbols – A matte feeling on your fingers and thumb. The color blue, like a snowy winter sky. Gold thread.
Pile 2 (Middle)
The Chariot | Eight of Swords | The Magician – Creator Gods | Queen of Swords | Four of Winter | Topaz – Manifestation | Change | Independence – Carving Your Own Path
Pile 2, have you ever seen a cicada coming out of its shell? That’s the image that I get of you right now. They spend the first seventeen years of their lives in bodies that aren’t theirs, only to climb up from the ground, anchor themselves to a tree, and split open on the back, emerging for a few months of whirlwind love.
This is an intense reading for me. It’s like you’re shock still now, but about to break forth and go tearing across the world to find your home. My heart is pounding just thinking about it! I suppose your heart just wants to warn you about the upcoming flurry of activity?
Yes, all your bindings will drop around you and you will create something magnificent. You will learn easy, rest easy, manifest what you desire, and transform into the new you. My throat got a bit tight when that message came to me—if this is something that you fear, know that your heart, your core, will stay the same. You’ll still be you! Only a more competent, independent, creative, merciful, confident, masterful you! When you’re through the transformation, it will feel as if it happened in the blink of an eye, and your heart will swell and feel warm with recognition of your accomplishments.
Other messages – Embrace the light of a new day. Confidence and belief. Make sure you get enough sleep. Heat and words as tools of creation. Energy.
Symbols – As I mentioned, insects coming out of pupae/cocoons. Races. The colors blue and yellow. The number 7. Soft/textured fabric.
Pile 3 (Right)
Rx King of Pentacles | Ace of Swords | Master of Wands – Giacomo Casanova | Ace of Cups | Ego | Rutilated Quartz – Confidence | Nature | The General of Knowledge
I get a distinct feeling of loss from you, Pile 3. Not something tangible or concrete that has been lost, but the loss of a certain feeling or thrill. The loss of passion. First, please know that these feelings, or lack thereof, are only temporary. Second, your heart has some messages for you to help you haul yourself out from this place.
Firstly. Several of the cards are pointing toward too much of an emphasis on the material. I see this manifesting as a sort of fear—fear of losing what you already have, fear of not being able to get what your body needs, fear of not being good enough to earn your keep, as they say. The counter to this fear is to invest in areas of life that develop you as a person. Be grateful for the opportunities that come your way, recognize your feelings and that each new relationship could be the start of something grand, maybe take up a new topic of interest to study or contemplate. Go for a nature walk and see what the world has to offer! I see you getting your hands dirty—maybe you’d like gardening, or something similar?
Secondly, a lot of the cards are pointing toward confidence. It feels like everyone can see how much swagger you have except you. But a lack of confidence is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and if you don’t believe in yourself, who will?
There is so much in this world waiting for you to dig it up. Hold onto hope, please, and remember to take life one day at a time.
Other messages – None. Listen to your heart, take note of how it feels. I sense that a higher power wants to bring you the rest of your messages, if you don’t already feel like you understand what comes next.
Symbols – Globe. Droplets of water. Overgrown plants.
If this was helpful, please consider donating or expanding on your personal messages in a reading💚

I don't think Obi-Wan was the best Master for Anakin.
Was he a good caregiver ? Yes and no. He got attached to the boy pretty quickly once he had overcome he's own Master's death but his determination to stick to the Code never allowed him to show it to Anakin when he needed it the most. I think his way to tell Anakin he cared for him was to let him get away with a number of things he shouldn't have to while being so emotionally unavailable that Anakin grew up being so confused about his relationship with his Master. It's no mystery that he became a very socially awkward teenager craving for affection and literally obsessing about the first person giving him attention back.
Was he a good brother/father figure ? I believe so. Even a friend at times. He was still the authority figure in Anakin's life, working as a guide and a protector and he never failed in this imo. What he failed, tho, was to establish a trusting relationship where Anakin would feel safe enough to open up to him. Mostly because Obi-Wan probably never knew where to place the cursor in their relationship, pushing away Anakin's need for understanding and compassion, mistaking it for unhealthy attachment. So Anakin lies to him and gets frustrated with him and Obi-Wan pretends not to see it.
Was he a good partner during the Clone Wars ? Absolutely. Their relationship was thriving during this period, I think because they were finally equals. Anakin let go of the conflicted feelings he harboured for his Master as a Padawan and the pressure on Obi-Wan's side to form the Chosen One and keep a distance with Anakin was practically gone. They've never been so close. They trusted each other with their life. Still, Obi-Wan chose to stay in denial. About Padme. About the Tusken's massacre. About Anakin's deteriorating mental health. He stayed away when he should have stepped closer. I don't know if he chose to close his eyes by ego or by fear.
Anyway, he should have told Anakin he loved him way before letting him burn on Mustafar. I'm certain it would have changed a lot of things. Anakin had always needed to hear it and the first time he did it sounded like a betrayal, like a lie.
I don't know if Qui-Gon would have been a better Master but in my mind he was more intuitive and connected to the Force than Obi-Wan. I think he would have been more interested about Anakin's special connection to the Force, and perhaps he would have listened better to his worries, taken them seriously. That and the fact that he didn't follow the Code religiously but more as a guideline to improve his own understanding and connection to the Force, could have been more suitable for Anakin's teaching. Maybe. I don't know. We'll never know.
These are just my thoughts.
#in conclusion#obi-wan was a great partner and could have been a great friend too if he wasn't so repressed#but a great master i don't think so#also i didn't talk about his background but he clearly wasn't fit to take a padawan of his own considering the amount of trauma#he wasn't ready and anakin needed special care not even the council was able to give him#they were fucked from the start#obi wan and anakin#obi wan kenobi#anakin skywalker#star wars the clone wars#star wars prequels#master and padawan#star wars#star wars thoughts

I do feel like this post gives solid base adivce but lacks some context that is helpful to understand why certain choices work. I would recommend beginner writers to try to understand what effects certain choices have, or rather, what sounds good to them personally when reading! And once you've figured out what sounds good to you, replicate it in your own writing.
I'm just going to put some of the points in a bit of context (in regards of my own personal opinion!) to hopefully help with understanding how they work.
1. "the floor shifted beneath her feet" is not showing, it's idiomatic. it still works better than using "she was sick with shock" as it draws more of a picture for the reader to imagine in their head. If you truly want to show and draw a bigger, more detailed picture, you can combine idiomatic language with some telling elements i.g. "Her breath was stuck in her throat and though her feet were frozen in place, it felt as if the floor shifted beneath them." Makes it easier for the reader to imagine what exactly is happening without saying "yeah she's shocked"
2. I have no gripes with scene breaks but for the love of god, do not put several asterisks or other random ass symbols in a row. They are a nightmare for screen readers, so if your writing is supposed to be read from a screen just don't use them. Put only one single one if you absolutely must (or if whatever you're using to upload/publish allows you to use dividers that can be parsed by screenreaders use those instead). Also if you really have to use them, be mindful that you're not breaking up paragraphs and topics that belong together. I personally also believe you don't have to rely on extra visual cues to inform your readers about a pov or scene change. Use words. Use line breaks and paragraphs. That's more than sufficient.
5. Don't end every chapter on a cliffhanger but always give a glimpse of what's next. You can conclude an entire subplot at the end of a chapter, with no action that needs to be cut right there and simply letting your character say something like "I managed to do X, now the next step is Y." Getting a bit of a glimpse of what's happening next without detailing it will help raise your readers' curiosity.
6. and 7. Yeah, you should focus on the important stuff in a scene instead of every single detail that lead up to it, but GoT is a great example why always subverting expectations might not be the wisest choice. Adding to point 10 here: just write whatever is fun to write to you. If you have fun, it is likely going to reflect in your writing. And if that means writing your character going grocery shopping and all goes according to plan, then so be it. Your readers might find it boring, true, but not every single little scene has to be the most interesting and impactful scene if you're just starting out.
8. Epiphets are not the devil, but you should only really use them for characters that have not yet been introduced or whose names will never be revealed. You wouldn't talk to your friend about "the blonde man" if the blonde man was your mutual friend Max you've both known for years. You'd just talk about "Max". So if your character's name is known, use it. If not, epiphets that describe the new character's most prominent features are fine.
Overall, write whatever is fun to write for you, no matter how well received it is, particularly if you're just starting out. If you want to improve on a technical level, read books from different time periods, different genres, different authors, different cultures and see what you personally like about them. Read fanfiction. It doesn't matter. You don't even have to read the whole thing if you end up not liking it or not finding enough time. But figure out what you like and then try to replicate that. (Be it sentence structures, usage of many/few adjectives, certain phrases, how chapters are structured, narrative voice, dialogue, how characters are described or characterized, etc. etc.)
No matter how small it may be, if you find a certain something in a writing you find awesome, try to write in that something, too. And if it's about your cat making a big meow meow fuss because food!! then that's fine, too.
tldr; read shit + find out what makes it good to you -> try to write something with theGood -> own writing sounds good to you -> happy + fun (-> reader also happy and fun)
my 10 holy grail pieces of writing advice for beginners
from an indie author who's published 4 books and written 20+, as well as 400k in fanfiction (who is also a professional beta reader who encounters the same issues in my clients' books over and over)
show don't tell is every bit as important as they say it is, no matter how sick you are of hearing about it. "the floor shifted beneath her feet" hits harder than "she felt sick with shock."
no head hopping. if you want to change pov mid scene, put a scene break. you can change it multiple times in the same scene! just put a break so your readers know you've changed pov.
if you have to infodump, do it through dialogue instead of exposition. your reader will feel like they're learning alongside the character, and it will flow naturally into your story.
never open your book with an exposition dump. instead, your opening scene should drop into the heart of the action with little to no context. raise questions to the reader and sprinkle in the answers bit by bit. let your reader discover the context slowly instead of holding their hand from the start. trust your reader; donn't overexplain the details. this is how you create a perfect hook.
every chapter should end on a cliffhanger. doesn't have to be major, can be as simple as ending a chapter mid conversation and picking it up immediately on the next one. tease your reader and make them need to turn the page.
every scene should subvert the character's expectations, as big as a plot twist or as small as a conversation having a surprising outcome. scenes that meet the character's expectations, such as a boring supply run, should be summarized.
arrive late and leave early to every scene. if you're character's at a party, open with them mid conversation instead of describing how they got dressed, left their house, arrived at the party, (because those things don't subvert their expectations). and when you're done with the reason for the scene is there, i.e. an important conversation, end it. once you've shown what you needed to show, get out, instead of describing your character commuting home (because it doesn't subvert expectations!)
epithets are the devil. "the blond man smiled--" you've lost me. use their name. use it often. don't be afraid of it. the reader won't get tired of it. it will serve you far better than epithets, especially if you have two people of the same pronouns interacting.
your character should always be working towards a goal, internal or external (i.e learning to love themself/killing the villain.) try to establish that goal as soon as possible in the reader's mind. the goal can change, the goal can evolve. as long as the reader knows the character isn't floating aimlessly through the world around them with no agency and no desire. that gets boring fast.
plan scenes that you know you'll have fun writing, instead of scenes that might seem cool in your head but you know you'll loathe every second of. besides the fact that your top priority in writing should be writing for only yourself and having fun, if you're just dragging through a scene you really hate, the scene will suffer for it, and readers can tell. the scenes i get the most praise on are always the scenes i had the most fun writing. an ideal outline shouldn't have parts that make you groan to look at. you'll thank yourself later.
happy writing :)
#general#advice#i derailed a bit in the end sorry#i also mean no hate with this i just believe it isn't as black and white with some of these points

Sometimes I get nervous writing again. But the only way to improve is with practice.
I am allowed to write whatever I please. It does not need to be award worthy. Nor does it need to be complete. I am allowed to brainstorm and reconsider ideas and change my damn mind. I do not have to write for an audience, jeepers!
I am allowed to write because it makes me happy.
Voice, detail, consistency, structure…elements that currently make me anxious, will only strengthen over time. I just have to keep putting pen to paper, so to speak. The important thing right now is that I have a desire to write and that I maintain momentum.
I know part of my reluctance stemmed from a lack of understanding and openness surround my identity. But now I feel comfortable writing non-binary original characters.
But I feel good. Better than I did last week and more determined to move forward.
I wasn’t sad; I just needed to write fanfiction about my current hyper fixation of a year. 🫶

One thing able-bodied people don’t get is that sometimes your condition is in its best possible state. My chronic illnesses are incurable. They are progressive and that’s it. With that will come symptoms no matter what. And im very lucky with mine considering the progression of my condition. Frankly I think my mental health has been far harder than my physical.
There is this idea that fighting a doctor or racing through treatment after treatment may fix something. And sometimes it can. But sometimes the body and state one is in is the best it can be. No doctor is going to be able to change it.
A condition has symptoms. Very rarely does it not. And if the condition cannot disappear then neither can all of the symptoms. Improvement is possible - perfection is not. And for me right now; my body is as good as she’s going to be. And I need people around me to accept that so I can live my life free from their judgment and their shame.
It’s a hard fact to explain. And it’s a hard one to accept. But it’s the reality. 🌸

Midlife crisis?
Why would Adler feel like he wasn’t enough?
Personal rejection and abandonment: We know he was married and that his marriage ended badly. There are hints that, if you’ve seen my other theories, he lost children, which suggests he may have faced a devastating loss or a conflicted relationship with his family. His attitude toward women in Black Ops 6 and his constant coldness toward female figures like Helen Park and Sevati Dumas could indicate a deeper issue with attachment and intimacy. It’s not about them; it’s about Adler.
Relationship with the CIA: Disposable and irrelevant. The CIA tried to retire him at 49, which must have been a brutal blow for someone whose sense of identity is so tied to his work. His line, "The CIA is like my ex-wife," suggests strong resentment, as if the organization used and discarded him. This fits the idea that he fears becoming irrelevant.
Fear of obsolescence: In Black Ops 6, he’s 54 and still in the field. He could have accepted retirement, but he didn’t. Why? Maybe because without his work, he feels like he’s nobody. His fascination with upgraded weapons in Zombies mode ("The sweet, sweet aroma of capitalism…") can be read as a metaphor: improving his gear is a way to stay competitive, to avoid feeling old or useless.
Adler Complex / Napoleon Complex: This is where the subtext comes in. His language is loaded with references to power, dominance, and compensation:
"You put in money, spit out firepower, and that’s the American way." → The association between money, power, and masculinity reinforces the idea that he needs external symbols to affirm his status.
"I think it even strengthened my hair." → A subtle reference to virility; hair is a classic symbol of youth and masculinity. If Adler feels like he’s aging or that his physical attractiveness and ability aren’t what they used to be, he’s likely compensating with an exaggerated attitude. His seductive and boastful tone could be his way of reaffirming himself: "I’m still dominant. I’m still desirable."
The desire for absolute control: Lines like "Did I give you permission to look at me?" and "Consider it a mercy kill" show that he needs to be in control of every interaction. In Zombies mode, the world is literally collapsing, but he maintains his image of superiority. This suggests that control is his defense mechanism against chaos. His insecurities aren’t about his work. Professionally, Adler is impeccable. There’s no doubt about his competence as an agent or his leadership skills. But personally… that’s where things change.
Yes, we could say he’s having a midlife crisis, though in his case, it’s more intense than the typical midlife crisis because his identity is too tied to his youth and virility. His luxurious lifestyle (expensive clothes, premium cigarettes, and whiskey) doesn’t just reflect refined taste but also a conscious effort to project power, status, and masculinity.
Fear of impotence (in every sense): It’s not just about sex. Impotence can also mean loss of control, loss of dominance, loss of relevance. Men going through age-related crises often seek to reaffirm themselves with symbols of power: expensive cars, premium alcohol, the company of younger women, or extreme adventures. In Adler’s case, these symbols are in his personality: the expensive clothes, his boastful tone, the way he enjoys upgrading his weapons, his seductive and dominant demeanor.
Some lines that reinforce this:
"I think it even strengthened my hair." → Strong hair = youth, virility. If he’s mentioning it, it’s because the idea of losing it worries him.
"The sweet, sweet aroma of capitalism…" → He says it with almost orgasmic pleasure, as if money and power give him a satisfaction that other things no longer can.
"You put in money, spit out firepower, and that’s the American way." → Again, money and power = masculinity.
So… is Adler compensating? Yes, and on multiple levels.
Emotional compensation: He may have once tried to build a personal life and failed. His divorce and the possible loss of his children reinforce this. He doesn’t try again because his defense mechanism is coldness and detachment.
Virility compensation: He’s no longer the young soldier from Vietnam, but he wants to keep seeing and feeling like one. The references to power, dominance, and strength may be his way of reaffirming himself in an aging body.
Existential compensation: If the CIA retires him, he stops being relevant. If he stops fighting, he stops existing. His ego can’t handle being irrelevant, so he keeps fighting even though his time has passed.
Conclusion Adler isn’t a man who doubts his ability on the battlefield, but he is a man who might doubt his ability in his personal life. His crisis isn’t professional; it’s emotional. His language, habits, and attitude are a shield to avoid facing that fear of irrelevance, impotence (in every sense), and loneliness.
You know, you can tell me what you think. How do you see it?
As a bonus: And yes, I’m going to repeat myself and quote myself (in case you didn’t read my other post, no worries), sorry, but I feel like this is an aspect that reinforces my hypothesis, and it’s:
It really broke me how in Black Ops 6, Adler drops a line that says, "Drinking on the job is like going back to Berlin…" while drinking a lethal daiquiri. And, I don’t know why Adler says it with so much pride or bravado (I wouldn’t be proud to say that). The line is a reference to Cold War… so… was Adler really drinking while working, and we just didn’t see it during Cold War? Wow… I guess his alcohol problem started in the 80s and not in 1991, as we see in Black Ops 6, and… that destroys me. How did we never see it? We only realize it in Black Ops 6 when we see his room for the first time while rescuing him from prison—his room is full of beer cans and whiskey bottles, but after the next mission, none of that is there… it’s… weird… and… painful… as if I could do something… ha… but… why does he do it? We always see him so strong, and then suddenly… we discover he has alcohol problems… ouch… and in 1981, Adler was 44, and in 1991, he’s 54…

so with these I animated on 4's and was following the guide of "always redraw, no tracing and posing previous frames" and trying to keep my drawings limited while achieving the movement that I wanted (Xb does have more drawings because I wanted to emphasize the slow and free movements under water) definitely could've changed the timing on this one to make it slower or slow down after the firt few frames
Keralis' one was a bit rushed, one thing I would change would be to give his braid more movement instead of just going up and down, his hat moving with the wind could also be improved the same way
two rough animations I made while my friend live reacted and ranted about a very bad isekai on the vc (@yuumalkiur lol <3)
#animation talk that is probably very incorrect because I'm an amateur but I guess you learn by being a fool#one thing that I struggle with is keeping all my drawings with the same proportions. it's definitely something that needs improving#I easily change them in ways I'm not supposed to because I'm too focused on the movement#I don't think I have the skills to land an actual job in animation (my style is not that looked for in the US/BR industry)#but it's fun either way

real talk tho
I talk about working out a lot bc it's become my second major hobby behind writing. I care about building a hot physique, sure, but I also work in a hospital where I'm constantly watching people my age waste away and die (and sometimes I do actually watch them die) or experience the worst days of their lives.
most of the time it isn't their fault. it's chronic ailments. it's things they had no control of. it's things that went wrong in the OR and eventually killed them.
but, sometimes, the reasons why they're there are from things they've done to themselves and those instances are just as hard to see through until the end.
I workout bc I know that I am fortunate to be in remarkable physical health overall. I have so many friends with nerve and pain disorders, disabilities that prevent them from the lives they want to live and I'm not ignorant that I privileged to be able to move and do the things that I do
it's one of the reasons why I don't squander this good health that I have. so I won't be 40 and need hip and knee replacements. so I won't be 60 be under a heart surgeon's knife.
I'm tired of seeing posts saying once you reach 30+ you're expired and doomed to pain every time you wake up. that you should expect to crack and pop like a glow stick and be perpetually exhausted
I'm so so so so so so tired of it
but, I'm also aware that the fitness community is horrifically ableist and they put people who don't workout under the same umbrella: lazy.
and that's not how it fucking works. at all. it's being undereducated and brought up in a system that still preaches that skinny is healthy and most beautiful, that three hours in the gym six days a week is the epitome of healthy living as opposed to eating for your body and moving in meaningful ways
I want to improve my fitness for myself: my health, my confidence, my strength, my readiness to knock people's heads off their fucking shoulders when the time comes
but, I really want to get good so I can help other people. I want to become more empathetic so I can be effective and approachable to people who do want to try something, but they feel like they can't talk to anyone about or ever change anything

Jihyo as a Girlfriend

Disclaimer: No facts, all alleged, this is my interpretation of the cards.
I like to get to her next as she seems to be someone who is perpetually in a relationship, and I like to know how she is as a girlfriend. So, I will do four sections. The first one will be their light traits. The second will be their shadow traits. Third part I will go into their sexual energy as a partner. The last will be any final messages or anything else I can get and also any improvements they can make.
Light traits as a girlfriend:
I see her as someone who is very resilient and can endure a lot in a relationship. She will stick with the person through thick and thin. She can be the type to give in when need be. I think she can be someone who trust her partner completely. She seems like the type that lets her partner take the lead and possibly pull the strings, so men may like that about her.
She has very mothering energy. I can see her being a Mother. She is very kind and nurturing. She has a creative energy or she is a creative force for her partner. I can see her tending to her partner and giving him all that he needs. Also, doing a lot of things for him. She gives me the energy of someone who can be a stay at home Mom. Not sure how she would work around that with her career, but this may be when she settles down and gets Married.
She is very charming and appealing. She will seem to do a lot of things to get the attention of her partner. Doing cute gestures, giving them things, surprising them on occasion, sneaking up on them, like maybe showing up out of nowhere where they are at, or at work. It is like she enjoys pleasing her partner.
Although she is traditional and tends to her partners need. There is a part of her that likes to make her own money and make her own way around the world, which seems contradiction to the first couple of cards I got. But I do see her wanting to make her own money.
She is very strong in her opinion, so if she believes in something. It is hard for her partner to change her opinion. She is someone who believes in her thoughts and opinions and will voice her discontent when she feels that way. I see her being able to stand strong in her feminine power, when need be, so that is good to see. I was feeling she may be a doormat for her partner, but the last two cards show she does have her own independent side as well.
Shadow traits as a girlfriend:
Yikes, don't want to see the Bully card in shadow, so there could be a tendency to be downright mean, she could possibly get physical and be verbally abusive, not saying she does that in real life, but the energy is there. I can see her having fits of anger and not being able to control herself. Like I can just see her pushing her partner over and over again out of frustration. It can be really hard for her to temper her emotions.
It seems it can be hard for her to pick a side, so if her partner wants her to choose him over a friend or what the company may want. She may not choose him or would try to make both parties happy, so that could lead to problems.
It can be hard for her to be vulnerable and soft. She shows a hard exterior and does not like to show signs of weakness. That sounds like Aquarius energy, so makes sense. Their energy really hates to show any signs of weakness and flaws to others, so she will showcase that in relationships. She wants to show that she can do it all. She is someone who will constantly need to improve and will always have a mountain to climb, so she may struggle to be satisfied with things all the time.
She kind of has this energy of wanting to be the hero and rescuer all the time. She will kind of coddle her partner and would not want them to make mistakes and can be a bit overbearing. She has this incessant need to feel and be needed by her partner. She will also nag a lot.
She seems very controlling and demanding. Will need to know her partners where abouts all the time, may need constant interaction with him. She is a bit needy, but more so she needs to kind of have her partner under her thumb and control. She also struggles to be playful and spontaneous. She may need to have a plan for everything. If things do not go to plan. Her partner will hear about it.
So, the first card in the light traits made no sense to me with the rest of the spread, like she wants to give in to her partner and have them take the lead, but she isn't giving me other signs that she does that. So, I think I got it, she may want a man to take the lead and figure things out, but she may struggle to find a guy that is like that and may nag him when he isn't that take charge guy that she wants. It is giving me, do better, you are the man vibe. I will go with that. She could have high standards as well.
Sexual energy:
Okay, she can be a little more adventurous and open-minded when it comes to sex and does try to explore new things. I say she can be a bit honest, brash and self-righteous when it comes to sex. She seems to have an independent nature to her and need to maybe seek her own pleasure. Not sure she thinks too much of her partner's needs. I keep hearing she can be belittling, so that could be something to. With this 1st house energy. She is kind of about herself and her image when it comes to sex, but it is also a way of expression for her. Maybe this is the one time she can be free from limitations.
Lol this next card has self-care on it, she really seems to be about her needs and feeling comfort, so she will do whatever it takes for her to be secure and comfortable. Not sure she cares too much how her partner feels. Now, with this Devil card, hmm, interesting card, this has to do with constraints, limitations or her strong desire to control even in the bedroom. This card can give me someone into bondage and BDSM stuff. She seems to have a lot of ideas of what to do and what to bring into the bedroom as well. It is like she shares; she wants to do this or that. Not sure how far these ideas go, as this is an ace card. And not sure how comfortable the guy is with it to be honest, maybe that is why it doesn't go through.
Interesting didn't expect this energy from the first sexual energy reading I did for her and the group lol I think that 4 of Cups was just her being bored of men in bed and that they don't particularly satisfy her needs and desires lol She needs men who are more experimental that is what I am getting.
Final messages/improvements:
And the Devil card pops up again, she may need to work on this need to control the relationship and her person. She may need to work on letting go and having fun. To maybe not treat her man as a child could be a start. She also has this need for codependency or her partner to need her. She needs to allow her partner freedom and say in the relationship and to work as a team and not be too attached to one another.
She should consistently put effort into the relationship. Stay grounded and stable. And to allow things to progress slowly, but also to learn to build trust in the relationship. She may need to work on not trying to manipulate everything. To use her skills and talents in a good way, rather than to manipulate her partner. Weird message, but not sure she does magic or voodoo herself to keep these men in line or bring them to her life, but that can be a thing to. She should use her magical toolset for good, rather than manipulation.
Okay, that was kind of wild, glad I decided to go with her next. This was fun.

Here are some Season 2 Arcane GIF comparisons before and after I color and sharpen them! | Season 1 Comparison GIFs
#arcane#arcaneedit#gifmaking#reminder that if ur not a fan of the coloring and sharpening then i dont need to hear ur opinion so fuck off and make your own gifs :)#sooo yeah!!! just sharing this very old coloring comparison i use from time to time to make sure i follow a certain peg for my gifs#but i dont really follow it to the T of course#and now i will use the tags to rant/comment about my coloring process lmao#ok so.... arcane s2 is SOOOOO much brighter than s1 i am so so so thankful we have such bright scenes instead of all the dark ones in s1#because it makes my life so much easier#that being said my coloring isnt really perfect i still cant handle more complex tones like the mel gif......#i used to have a more stylized coloring wayyy back in s1 (esp when u look at my old gifs) but i kinda realized i had to change it#so i scrapped all my old psds and now coloredit EVERYTHING MANUALLY#hence why sometimes i gif the same scene but theyre colored different since i never use a preset PSD now#however it became way more tedious to make gifs... so yeah.... lmao#but in the end i like it more!!! i like that my new coloring just basically matches the show more but is just brighter and more saturated#unless ofc i dont like the tones of the original show i.e. the vi gif you see there where its super green gray???? idk i dont like it so#i recolored the entire thing#anyways thats really it coloring will always be something i continue to try to improve on but recently ive just been v busy so i just#speed color and edit everything and dont rlly take all adjustments into account so no more complex tones and#i just stick to basic things#oh right sharpening! so for sharpening i use a very basic setting: just 500 px and 0.4 radius which is what i use for almost everything#i also dont add noise bc the landscape photographer in me does NOT like it LMFAOOOOOOOOOO#but yeah thats really it for sharpening oh i also use 4k sources as much as possible bc it gives the best quality and if#i cant find any source i just upscale everything by myself then crop stuff again back to 540 px and imo it really just does look better#personal tag

Feel free to be more specific in comments/notes if you want! If you want to elaborate further, how do you organize them? By role, species, age, alphabetical order, vibes or something else?
#I use a mix of improperly used site (Trello) and writing it all down in Drive (docs and sheets my beloved)#sure I also use tumblr but it's all already written in the sacred texts(?) so that feels like an extension of my note docs#and lol it used to be ALL in my mind. then I learned not to trust my memory too much. anything I think and I like goes down on a note.#that said I'm considering moving it all to Obsidian (as soon as I learn how to use it) because of some nitpicks I have with docs#anyway so far I organized my gw2 ocs in story-relevancy categories: Main. Extra. Background. Companions.#mains do story-relevant stuff. extras are supporting characters to mains or have minor roles in important story stuff. backgrounds are -#- mostly family or part of others' backstory. companions are pets/mounts/constructs/creatures (and get their own subcategories).#I should probably go back and change some OCs' categories though oops#poll#am curious therefore I ask#(and I need to compare how I do these things because I feel like I could improve in some areas)#I poll you answer
