seeing your ex boyfriend suguru for the first time after the breakup left you with mixed feelings of both familiarity and unfamiliarity. in terms of appearance, he hadn’t really changed. he looked pretty much the same way as you left him except his jet black hair had gotten longer. however, something about his aura had changed. you weren’t exactly sure what it was, you just had a feeling that it wasn’t the same as before, it was a tad bit softer, more gentle, and it made you feel as if you were being in the presence of a completely different person.

tension began to rise as awkward silence filled the atmosphere around you. it was excruciating and you had a hard time breathing, your heart clenched painfully. you were anxious and nervous.

yet despite all that, deep down inside your heart was a part of you that wanted to see suguru again, which grew bigger when it actually happened, you were quite happy to see him again after all that time.

if you were being completely honest, you had never been able to move on from him. so in other words, you still had feelings for him. and if he ever asked you to get back together, you would do it in a heartbeat without a single hint of hesitation.

you knew he wouldn’t though, and these were only wishful thoughts on your part. because you were pretty sure things between you and him had ended once and for good that day. showing no signs of a reconciliation.

“you haven’t changed at all.” your eyes widened slightly, it was as if he was reading your mind. was it some sort of telepathy or something? you didn’t know. his voice pierced through your ears, and it got you thinking that his tone hadn’t changed in the slightest. his voice was still as soft as it could be.

“you too, sug—geto.” you almost called him by the nickname you gave him back when he was your boyfriend, but quickly realized and changed to his last name. however, it didn’t feel right to you. it felt so forced, simply because his nickname used to roll off your lips ever so effortlessly, your tongue was so used to the sound of ‘sugu’ as it rolled out naturally. so when you forced it to say his last name instead, it came off weird.

suguru chuckled, a somewhat sad smile made its way onto his face upon hearing his last name rolling over your lips. the sound of it felt foreign to his ears as it reminded him that you two weren’t in the kind of relationship that allowed you to be on a nickname basis anymore. it hurt him, and it hurt him deep.

because truth be told, he too, still loved you. he tried his hardest to move on with his life, he went out with many girls, and he even went as far as to sleep with them in desperate attempts to forget all about you as if he’d never met you. but to his misfortune, his attempts never worked out. you were simply unforgettable to him, he could never erase you from his heart even if he wanted to.

he had left his heart with you on the day you called it quits, and couldn’t manage to get it back to give it to someone else.

you felt as if time was frozen, and you were stuck in yet another prolonged moment of silence. with just you and suguru together, no one else.

your mind was constantly telling you to run away, to not look back and leave him behind. that you were better off without him. but your emotions took control over your actions as your heart refused to let your body move, and you remained still in your spot.

“i can’t believe i let you go,” suguru spoke for the first time in what seemed like forever, breaking that thick layer of silence. “i was such a fool, wasn’t i?”

his regretful tone caught you by surprise, you couldn’t believe that it was possible for suguru to regret a decision he made. yet there he was, spilling out his regrets in front of you.

you slowly parted your lips open, thinking of what to say back to him.

“isn’t it a little too late for that?”

that wasn’t what you wanted to say, you wanted to say that you missed him, that you still loved him, that you wanted to get back together with him.

but your mind was too quick to react. you wished you could take back what you said, but it was too late for that.

“maybe… but if i’m being honest with myself, i still love you. actually, i don’t think i’ve ever stopped loving you once.” you watched suguru admit that he still had feelings for you in utter disbelief. it was the last thing you expected to hear from him. how he looked at you while he was talking and how earnest he sounded were enough proof that he was being sincere and genuine, he meant every single word he said.

suguru on the other hand, felt some sort of relief washing over him after finally letting his suppressed feelings for you out of his chest. he didn’t know if he would ever get another chance to see you again, so he was more than determined to win you back. it wasn’t guaranteed that you would allow him in your life once again, but he was still willing to give it his all.

“so please just,” he paused momentarily, taking a deep breath before proceeding. “take me back to you.” it sounded as if he was pleading, perhaps he was indeed pleading. he was just desperate at that point as this was his last resort. but he didn’t care if he seemed desperate, he was able to put his pride aside and show you his weak side. to suguru, if showing his vulnerability to you was the price he had to pay for him to get you back, then so be it.

“you idiot, of course i’d take you back. i wouldn’t want to be with anyone who wasn’t you, i will always love you.”

that sole sentence was enough to bring you to tears because of how moving it was. you immediately run towards him and throw yourself in his arms as you wrapped your arms tightly around him as you bury your face in the crook of his neck, holding onto him for dear life. his body slightly flinched under your touch, but quickly reacted as his strong arms pulled you closer to him. your bodies were so close that you could feel the warmth of one another.

“welcome back, sugu.” you said in between your sobbing, finally allowing his name roll off your lips ever so easily. he smiled upon hearing his nickname being said as he gave the top of your head a series of small, tender pecks.

“yeah, i’m back home.” he hummed softly against your ear.

suguru had been lost for so long, but at last he was finally back to where he belonged, to you, his home.

Today's the day I introduce my Nanatsu no Taizai/Seven Deadly Sins OC, the very first one I have ever made in the year 2015-16.

ALERON/MORGAN LE FAY

Her name is Aleron, but she is loosely based on Morgan le Fay, so her true name is Morgan le Fay (or just Morgan, depending on how I write her backstory). She's a pretty powerful mage that is arguably rivaling Merlin for the title of 'best mage in all of Britannia', but in order to justify that, I borrowed from Dungeon Meshi and did the 'combing two races gives the offspring a longer lifespan' while also applying 'combing two races makes the offspring that much stronger' while also applying 'hair color dictates magic'.

Aleron is a half-Goddess (indicated by her extra eye and the fluffy feathers as well as the star theme she had going on) and a half-faerie (indicated by her ears and flowers naturally growing in her hair). The idea of her design was to indicated 'heaven and earth', so she'd have stars on her upper half and her lower half would have earth (sandals to be closer to the ground, ruffles in her skirt to indicate waves)—her entire staff is just a combo of that theme!

Backstory wise, a very short summary, she's an alchemist that has lived for many centuries already and has a hyperfixation on magic—collecting ancient tomes, reading them, crafting her own magic, alchemy, studying under talented mages from other races, etc. Her mother is Rhiannon—a Goddess/Celestial that fought in the Holy War—and her father is Gorlois, a faerie king that rules the Kingdom of Tintagel in another faerie country named Cornwall. To tie Aleron in with Arthur, Rhiannon dies during the war and reincarnates as Igraine. I had the rough idea that Aleron gets hired throughout the country by different kingdoms as the royal court mage (she needs that coin), and eventually wounds up in Camelot to cater to Igraine and her family—which eventually becomes Aleron's family since she was there when Arthur was born—for a time before Merlin comes into the picture.

Orange Witcher - This set is so so beautiful. I am in awe. The orange is absolutely stunning, lovely and fits in with the scenes so well. I imagine you had to color this really hard but the oranges look so natural and pretty, you did such an amazing job! They look so incredible in every gif, it makes me feel all warm. The blending is badass like wowza! And I'm always impressed when people create these 'funny' sets cuz I am terrible at puns and this not only makes me smile but also laugh!

Enola Holmes - This set is so special to me, I want to kiss it! It has such cozy vibes with the soft green and orange! And the brilliance of your blending here makes for such cool gifs, I am still in awe everytime I see them. They look like actual art! Not to mention your awesome fontwork!

Purple Witcher - This violet is so beautiful! It is such a lovely shade of purple, so soft and yet so vibrant, such a gorgeous shade, mwah!

Mint & Orange Witcher - Me liking your mint sets is gonna be a theme in this list cuz I adore minty colors and this is one of my faves ever! Not only is the color combo so delicious but it actually brightens the set itself that it feels like taking a breath of fresh air. Looks so lovely and magical! The blending is absolutely spectacular and not only is the text wonderful but once again your coloring skills are amazing!

Geralt Of Rivia - This set has been an inspiration to me for such a long time, I was floored by the incredible fontwork and the cool minty/cyan coloring, that I would sometimes stare at it and be like 'How can I achieve this level of badassery?' The blending is also super great but honestly the fontwork here is top tier.

Mint Jaskier - Your mint sets are honestly unparalleled. I can't even believe that you managed to color that Jaskier lake scene cuz I've tried doing that and it never worked so major kudos! And once again a handclap on your good-looking text!

Yellow Witcher - The blending here is so peculiar, such wonderful choices of scenes that I've never seen before paired with this delicious, warm yellow and lovely italic fontwork. That last gif, I remember my breath being taken away!

Geraskier + Hair - I was hoping that somebody would make a set with this quote with Geralt and you blew me out of the water! Minty set again! So enchanting! The blending is quite soft, the scenes you chose make it look so fluffy and it looks so good!

Cirilla - I am blown away by your coloring skills here cuz so many of these scenes are dark as hell and yet you somehow managed to make them super bright, super vibrant and the blending is extraordinary! And the texts look so nice! And this honestly goes for all the sets here but your sharpening is so unique. It's sharp but it's quite soft and it works so well!

Merlin + Zodiac - Not only am I a huge fan of tinier gifs, but this looks so fairytale-like! It's honestly soothing to look at cuz the color is so pretty and calming, the blending for each gif is wonderful and I freakin adore the borders, texts and the images! All of this makes for such a lovely set!

I've always kinda wondered, do you know why AFTG fandom has leaned so hard into Neil being ginger when I don't think he is canonically? Like, I wouldn't say auburn = ginger, especially not the neon orange a lot of fanart has. He even describes his natural hair color as a shade of brown — "Neil had dyed his hair brown from time to time, but never this shade [...] This was his natural color[...]" (TRK, CH 16) etc. Like, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter at all lmao but I read the books before I saw any fanart, so I was surprised when I saw Neil looking like a Weasley lol.

Okay so I will preface this by saying that I am not someone who has strong feelings about the Neil Josten Auburn vs Ginger "discourse" that occasionally pops up. When I was younger, and my hair was longer, and I actually saw sunlight on a semi-regular basis - my hair was described as auburn so when I pictured Neil I pictured him with dark reddish-brown hair that was "reddish" in the sense that it was warm and had that red-glow in the sunlight but at a glance would definitely be described as "brown".

Coming onto tumblr and seeing fanart with him with red red and/or ginger looks was mildly surprising but I liked the combo of red hair & blue eyes so it didn't really faze me.

But you asked *why* and I thought about it, and well, here's how I think it happened:

First, know that unless you have auburn hair or know someone who you've heard describe their hair as auburn - and it's distinctly brown - you probably only have a vague idea of what "auburn" means. Red-brown is kind of vague when you think about it. Just think of all the different wood stains in the red-brown category! There's like 50!

And when you Google auburn hair, this is pretty much what you get:

Which definitely implies that "auburn" is "dark red" rather than "reddish-brown".

Once you have it in your head that auburn is a classification of "dark red" it's incredibly easy for creative license and interpretation to open that up into "red hair". From which the leaning will be toward "ginger" as that's a very popular aesthetic in fiction. A lot of people think ginger when being told a character has red hair, despite there being a lot of different shades of red hair that wouldn't necessarily be considered "ginger". And yes, a part of this is probably because when you think of redheads in pop culture, you get characters (like the Weasleys) who are ginger and are described by the more broad classification of having red hair/as redheads.

And so, even if you KNOW people with red hair who aren't gingers, or with auburn hair who aren't redheads, the association between "hair with red in it" to "ginger" becomes pretty easy and commonplace.

At least, this is my interpretation. Fanlore likes bandwagons, so maybe an artist once went "Oh but I like the combo of ginger/redhead with blue eyes let's do that for Neil" and people liked it and so it stuck *shrug* I only joined this fandom in 2020 so I couldn't tell you exactly how it started.

Either way, I think it's cool to see the different ways people interpret the characters. The fandom has kind of universally decided that Dan & Matt are Black and Renee is often drawn as being Asian, which is really cool. Also, the incredible variety of interpretation of the Minyards. Sometimes they're twinks, sometimes they're stocky lil boulder men. Curly hair, straight hair, every shade of blond imaginable. There isn't really a consensus when it comes to them like there is with many of the other characters.

We all just love them so much, and so when we write or draw them, we imbue more of what we like/love into the designs. That's kind of the beauty of fanworks. You can take something you already like and then add more of what you like to it! And then share it with other people who like it too!!

Anyway, I'm gonna stop here before I go on an extended rant about how much I love fanfiction as a Thing. Hope that helped answer your question!

Talking About The New Scare-adise Island Dolls (Monster High G3)

Monster High G3's newest line, beach wave Scare-adise Island has just fully leaked! As always, I am just delighted to see new dolls and want to talk all about them and my opinions on each doll, and if i will be buying them once they release.

The Line Overall

Not many people know this, but I love beach lines. They're a staple of any doll line naturally, but I love to see the takes that a brand does on swim wear or summer fashion, and how they make it both fashionable and practical. And for the most part, I do think Scare-adise Island does a good job at this. Each doll, bar one, comes dressed in swimwear, and all of them come with a bag, sunglasses, a drink, and an extra accessory. There is also a playset, which comes with a lot more accessories, as well as a doll.

Clawdeen Wolf

Clawdeen's doll is quite interesting, and I don't excatly think it captures a beachy vibe. Clawdeen comes dressed in a green leopard print swimsuit, with holes in the sides. She also wears a transparent purple pair of long pants with black patterns, transparent pink shoes, and a transparent purple visor, both made of a "gummy" plastic material. She comes with a purple bag, lavender water bottle with sipping straw, green crescent moon sunglasses and a novel, titled "Howler Thriller".

This look doesn't fully read as "beach" to me- the pants, and more full heels paired with her swimsuit almost read to me as being a "dance" look. I think Clawdeen would have been improved by one thing- having shorts instead of long pants. Her accessories are cute, and I especially like the water bottle, even if it is a recycled mold from G3 Basic Clawd. I also think her shoes should have matched the visor- why are they pink?? At least the green sunglasses match both the swimsuit and earrings. Her pink lipstick is also a little weird- MH PLEASE give her a natural lip. Or even, purple! I think her side ponytail is cute, but I cannot help but think it will be poly, again.

This Clawdeen is cute overall, but she is not for me.

Frankie Stein

This Frankie doll is super cute- and looks so transgender in all of the best ways. They are dressed in a silver and white top, and black and white checked board shorts, with yellow lightning bolts streaked across them. Over top, they wear a black button-up top, with yellow lightning bolt patterns. They have long straight hair, which is black, white and blue streaked, and sport a silver bucket hat, with blue and yellow rings piercing the brim. They wear cute black heel sandals, and come with a blue bag, yellow skullette drinks cup, yellow lightning shaped shades and a green sports ball.

I personally adore this Frankie, and I think it was the best possible thing they could have designed for them. I think the color combo of the look is great, and I hope it stays the same in the animated series. One of the only complaints I can really give is the pink lips- Frankie do you only own one pot of lip gloss? This Frankie would have been so cute with a black, blue, or even yellow lip! I suppose it is an easy fix for any customizers, though.

This Frankie is so so stunning! I think they are worth a buy for any fans of Frankie and beach wear.

Draculaura

And another banger! Draculaura looks absolutely stunning in this look, sporting a pink sunhat with black bat shaped bow, pink and yellow cobweb earrings that look almost like a sun, a pink bikini with cobweb patterns and black ruffles, and a transparent cover up with cobweb patterns. Draculaura wears pink pumps, and comes with pink sunglasses recolored from her core look, sunscreen, a mocktail with little bat wings, and a black, bat shaped bag with a pink charm. She wears her hair in a low ponytail, and it is mostly black with pink streaks.

This Draculaura is pretty perfect, and I don't really have any complaints other than she could maybe use a necklace or two in her look. She is oh-so very pretty, and I love the way that they made the cobwebs of the design look like suns.

I think that this Draculaura is great, and an absolute must own for Draculaura and beach doll enthusiasts. So pretty!

Heath Burns

Making his first ever doll debut in G3, it's Heath Burns! And honestly, I like it! Heath Burns has orange skin, and orange eyes, and has plastic hair, which is made to resemble a mohawk. The hair is shaved on both sides, and he has red painted hair. Heath's face sculpt also has small pointed ears. Heath wears a blue hoodie with flame patterns, and blue board shorts with a similar flame patterns. Heath also sports a pair of slip-on sandals, which are dark blue with flame patterns. The Heath Burns doll also comes with a blue tote bag, an orange, volcano shaped drink, a bottle of sunscreen, and orange sunglasses with flames on the frames.

As somebody who loved G3 Heath with all my heart, I have to say that I just love this doll. I do wish his face sculpt better matched his show counterpart, by having bigger ears, a longer, thinner face, and a different nose shape, rather than looking similar to the other boys. I also am a fan of bald Heath, and prefer it over the mohawk. The outfit is similar to what he wears in the show, except for the shoes. I do wish that this doll had come out in another line so that it could better match the show, but now is better than never, and Heath is the last member of the "poster cast" (characters featured on promotional posters and advertisements) to get a doll. Also, I really hope he's short! I NEED him to be shorter than Abbey!

I like this doll! He's pretty good for a boy doll, and I will be getting him so he can sit next to my Abbey.

Lagoona Blue

Lagoona Blue is the playset doll for this wave! However, I won't be talking about the playset, just the doll. And this Lagoona, oh boy she is PRETTY!! Lagoona has long yellow hair, with teal and pink streaks, styled mostly out, with a small ponytail in at the right. She has gorgeous pink lips, and soft makeup. Lagoona wears a pastel tie dye bikini top, with black ruffles and straps. She sports a matching skirt with drip patterns, black pleather ruffles and plastic pink rope-esque belt-cover piece. Lagoona's shoes match, being pink, and seemingly tied up with plastic textured to look like rope.

I personally love this Lagoona doll so much, and think she is so pretty. I am almost upset that she is a playset exclusive, as that just means that she will be more expensive for me to buy. I don't have any design complaints for her, it's a pretty perfect doll!

If you like playsets, then I'd give this one a buy JUST for the exclusive doll!! Lagoona is so pretty!

taking nathan's horrifying t-posed model from lis1, his hair color (between shading and lighting, so the most "natural" color) is something like #755842 and his eye color is something like #363f3c. he's not a "pure ginger" by any means, arguably that sort of is more tinted in bts (but many edits are happening to those models if they were from LIS 1). still, there is some red tinting in there (which makes sense genetically from what i've looked into for his name, it would align with his heritage pretty well), and he's more on the green spectrum of eyes when directly using the color dropper, which i find surprising. lighting and shading in games play a huge role in how we perceive color, i also did this because i am colorblind to shades as well as not really knowing heavy blue-green differences in general, so i thought his eyes were like ... blue-blue. anyway, i thought others might find that interesting. nathan is decently pale, though not shockingly so, which doesn't surprise me since he's from florida. his skin tone is something like #caa08a. i would say he's more naturally pale, is paling out as he stays in oregon longer, and has i guess a technically semi-rare combo with his hair and eyes, it's not super common.

Do you typically say “Happy Holidays” or “Merry Christmas”? Merry Christmas. But if I was in a situation where it seemed more appropriate to say "Happy Holidays" or "Happy Insert Specific Holiday Here," then I would do that instead.

Do you make or serve anything with cranberries around this holiday season? I didn't. I made a tart around Thanksgiving that called for cranberries, but I substituted that with some frozen berries we already had on hand.

Do you collect pine cones, or have you in the past as a child? What have you made out of them/what did you do with them? I never collected them, but I picked up a few here and there, as I did with many interesting bits of nature. I also have a memory of collecting the seeds with my childhood friend Aurora. I think we took them home and baked them. I've made some craft ornaments as well. Coated them in glue and then sprinkled them with glitter. We might have also covered them with peanut butter (and seeds?) for the birds and squirrels, but I could be mistaking that idea for the first as they're very similar concepts.

Have you/your family ever roasted chestnuts as a holiday treat before? I haven't.

Are red and green the colors that you typically associate with Christmas the most, or is there another color that you have in mind? What is it? Red and green are the colors I most associate with Christmas, but other color schemes can be nice as well. Green, gold or silver, and white. Or a chilly winter wonderland palette of white and pale blue.

What’s the worst Christmas gift that you’ve ever gotten before, and what made it the worst? I've never received a truly terrible gift.

Do you give your spare change to the mall Santas? Not to the mall Santa, but we have given money to the bell-ringers.

Do you get to open up any presents on Christmas Eve? Yeah. We had a tradition of opening one present on Christmas Eve.

Do your family members wrap your gifts, or were they just sitting there under the tree? How about when your parents were kids? Ours were wrapped or gift bagged. I don't know about when my parents were kids. I've never asked and they've never mentioned that specific detail.

Do you know anyone who has a birthday on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Have you ever gotten a gift that was meant for both your birthday as well as Christmas, either because it was expensive or because the two holidays are close together? I don't know anyone with a birthday on Christmas / Christmas Eve. The closest would be Liv, whose birthday is on the 23rd. I'm pretty sure I've received gifts that were at least partially Christmas / birthday combos because of how expensive they were. I don't recall them eating up my entire birthday budget, but at least some of it…?

Are you someone who needs to work on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, or are you able to have those days off to spend time with your loved ones? In 2023, I volunteered at the animal shelter on both days. This year, I was there on Christmas Eve but had the day-of off.

Have you ever gone on any sort of Christmas-themed scavenger hunt before? How about played Christmas-themed bingo? I've never participated, but there's the Jingle Bell Rock. It's basically a rock that people search for with a series of clues. I don't know what the prize is if you win, though. I don't think I've ever played Christmas bingo.

Is Christmas your favorite holiday? If so, why? If not - then which holiday is your favorite instead? Yeah, probably. It's so hard to choose; it's kind of a toss-up between Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

When was the last time you sat down and made an actual Christmas gift? I'm not sure. I know I made watercolor paintings for a few people a number of years ago, but I can't remember whether they were for Christmas or not.

How often do people ask you what you want for Christmas and you’re unable to think of anything concrete until after the holidays have passed? My mom is really the only person who asks me what I would like. This year, I was able to think of an answer quite easily - cute kitty measuring cups and spoons because I've recently gotten into baking.

Do you watch “Kickoff to Christmas” or “Countdown to Christmas” movie specials on the FreeForm channel? When do you start counting down the days until Christmas? I don't. I also don't really keep a strict countdown. It's more like, oh shit, Christmas is in a month. Oh shit, it's in two weeks. Oh shit, it's just a few days away. Oh shit, it's over. :'(

Does it ever deeply concern you to know that Santa knows when you’re sleeping, and he knows when you’re awake? Not sure why childhood me was never bothered by that sort of thing…or the concept of a strange man entering my home while I was asleep, especially by way of our chimney…or really anything about the whole situation. I was incredibly trusting and gullible.

What would you do if your grandma got run over by a reindeer? My grandparents have all passed away, but idk, see if she was okay? Take her to the hospital?

I am in the middle of a elemental baby project. Where i’m getting dragons in the color of their deities with primal eyes.

So I got curious about how many dragons also have these. As well as how many match their colors and elements.

My findings are below

In general there are 50-70 dragons per color combo in existence with primal eyes.

Each have at least one who’s element doesn’t match their deity colors.

Most of these are as the result of people having pairs of each deities colors. So the ten pairs that aren’t of their flight produce dragons with non-matching eyes.

Now onto the specific flights.

Prime, Arcanist, and Magicist.

The last two were hatched by the same person! Not far apart form each other either. But they were both exulted.

Fire:

Only one for fire, Unnamed! And he’s ice too how funny.

Lightening:

So Oracle is pretty fascinating because I have no idea how he came to be.

His parents are in the lightening flight and almost all of their nests are as well. Expect their second or third one which was in light for some reason.

I’m guessing their owner either vacationed in light or sent them off to a rented nest and they happened to produce a primal. Or maybe even some other hijinks ensued.

Shadow:

Just like fire, shadow only has one which also happens to be the opposite element.

But unlike fire, Misa was only hatched about two months ago. So for over ten years all shadowbinder copies had matching primals!

Or at least all the other ones had color/eye changes lol

Plague:

FrostPlague, Blaze, FortunesChild, Barringtonia, Dante

As you can see plague had the most non-matching of the flights. Only one nature, but two ice for whatever reason.

Water:

Morozko, Lockheart, Macrocy, Tidelady.

At second most with four is water. Half of which is the opposing fire. Macrocy and Tidelady are actually siblings! I bet you can tell who’s the fav though lol

Ice:

Icewarden, Adranos

Once again, opposite element and these two are brothers! And only one escaped exultion.

Earth:

Balan, Battalion

While they’re not opposites of their deity colors, they are opposites to each other! Funny how much this happens.

Wind:

Sunrise, Unnamed

I was expecting more given wind flight’s usual nomad tendency to vaca in other flights. But not only are their only two, but these gals were hatched 2-3 months ago.

So like shadow wind kept this up for over ten years!

Light:

Isokel, DaisyChain

DaisyChain is unique in that neither of her parents had deity colors. So she by pure chance got both primal eyes and deity colors!

She is exulted however. Which is unfortunate because she’s quite pretty!

Nature:

Birch, Meat, Sonne

And finally, the three nature ones. Earth and wind eyes go surprisingly well with nature colors. Well guess it shouldn’t be all that shocking.

Meat’s parents also didn’t have deity colors! He is also exulted lol

I really like how many of them are dressed up to be basically dual elements. Half tempted to get my own now.

IDW'S SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, SPRING BROKEN SPECIAL - THOUGHTS

A while back, it became pretty clear that the abundant specials IDW has been releasing for the past year have had a certain... "commonality" about them. Endless Summer, A Very Chaotix Halloween, Winter Jam - the Four Seasons theming read loud and clear. Now, up until a couple months ago, I'd assumed the 900th Adventure Special was meant to be the stand-in for Spring in this lineup, so I was a bit surprised when Spring Broken was announced to round the seasonal specials off. I was interested to see what kind of send-off they'd give this little gaggle of stories.

This time around, we have pencils by Adam Bryce Thomas and colors by Leonardo Ito. These two are a really great combo, as I think Ito's emphasis on simple, soft color palettes compliments the very manga-esque style Adam brings to the table. This style, however, leaves me a little confused as to why he, of all artists, was the one pulled for this story.

ABT tends to be at his best when working on big, over-the-top action sequences. His work really sells the sense of adrenaline the series is trying to convey in its tensest moments. That being said, the story here is... fairly mundane? The characters spend a day at the fair and solve a mystery about flowers. Heck, the entire last couple pages are entirely dedicated to showing the characters enjoying the attractions once all is said and done.

There's not really a ton here in the way of high-stakes plot that would really give Adam a chance to shine.

That being said, there's still enough here that you can see his art style noticably developing a bit in a manner akin to Evan Stanley's. Namely in the way he draws Sonic himself.

It might just be my imagination, here, but I could swear Sonic's quills are longer and come to a more distinct point than the way Adam usually draws them. We know Evan has been taking strides to incorporate elements of official 2D Sonic art into her artstyle, perhaps this is a sign that Adam has been doing the same. Beyond that, I think I'm noticing some more fun and stretchy facial expressions on some of these characters, too. When it comes to the way faces are drawn, I've always found that ABT has a tendency to stay pretty on-model, but here I'm seeing a bit more expressive warping of the facial proportions than I'd expect out of Adam.

Where Adam really knocks it out of the park here, though, is with the background character designs.

Adam's always good at drawing up unique OCs, and there are tons of 'em here. Having so many characters with so many looks and still having a consistent style to them all goes a long way toward helping the world feel just a little more lived in. Another cool bit of background work he contributed is this central figure that pops up in a few places around the festival.

Also I just noticed that Cream and Vanilla are here. Neato.

When asked about this figure on Twitter, ABT said that she's intended to be a sort of Nature Spirit, and that the festival pays reverence to her. She's never mentioned in the story, but it's a neat little detail to see the more spiritual side of this world's cultures.

As I said before, the story, written by Josh Trujillo, is not too incredibly exciting. The majority of the plot centers around the mystery behind the annual Flower Contest, which itself is really three mysteries, all of which are wrapped up pretty quickly. Really, it seems to be less about the mystery, and more about how these characters spend their free time in a sort of slice-of-life fashion. This is fine, and it shows us some neat character interactions we don't normally get to see, like Jewel and Espio or Amy and Nite, but it's also something we've been getting a lot of lately.

It almost makes me wonder, with the amount of miniseries and specials they've been putting out there recently, if it wouldn't be possible, and maybe a better use of resources, to just run a dedicated sister series devoted to telling side stories like Sonic Universe did for Archie.

I'm not the first person to make this point, but perhaps then we could get more big, exciting plots full of stakes and gravitas in the main book. Who knows.

All in all, Spring Broken didn't particularly blow me away. I'd say it's a nice break from the norm but... it's not. It's exactly the kind of story we've frankly been getting in surplus as of late. I'm ready for things to move again, ready for the non-stop, blood-pumping action of Sonic the Hedgehog! There are some cute moments here and there that I do appreciate, but I just wish they could have come at a different time.

Issue #70 drops in about 22 hours for me, so with any luck, that will scratch my itch for more exciting Sonic stories for a bit.

**Zoo Animals is different than Wild Animals in that "Zoo Animals" means the sticker has one particular animal instead of an assortment of different animals (which falls under "Wild Animals".) Yes it's very arbitrary. All the animal distinctions are tbh.

Of course, putting the stickers under my bed and in my closet means I don't get to admire them very often. To counteract this I have a display board I put some new/seasonal/favorite stickers on.

Currently on display I have a Discowing sticker, a summer sticker mod, and a sticker sheet from my penpal when she visited (plus some bonus sticky notes from the penpal as well).

Since I'm sure you're wondering, the stuffed rabbits are named, from left to right, Blueberry (made by a friend!), Snorb (also made by a friend!), Mocha, Mellie, York, and Spotty.

Of course not every sticker I get is fortunate enough to have a backing. Sometimes I'll get stickers from the supermarket or I'll peel them off a package and I know they'd never survive in the bins, so they go in the Hello Kitty sticker book!

I've had this thing since I was like 4. I'm a little bit obsessed if I'm being honest. She's never let me down.

And that's the important stuff for stickers! Though I wanted to show off my other stationary, too.

I keep all my miscellaneous scrapbooking materials/stationary in a Batman lunch tin. All of my letters and envelopes are in an old shoebox. Both are stationed at the end of my comic book shelf! The tin and the assorted letter sets are hidden behind the two Batman stuffies :P

For... Cascade! Minovae's eyes light with something between awe and nervousness. Cascade is so utterly gorgeous and her style... Mino presses her fingers together and begins to think. Maybe she'd like to go dancing together?? Mino is highly trained and experienced in Taldan Tango and other partner dances and there's a showcase coming up soon... would Cascade enjoy the honor of being her dance partner? She hasn't had anyone to seriously dance with her in... well decades! Aside from Woljif who she pretty much press-ganged into being her dance partner at the victory gala since she forced him to learn the moves as a training exercise.

Top: The first thing Mino notices is the color motif: the gold and black and white with red shawl. Hmmm... not Mino's typical color scheme but she can work with it! They'll have an opposite's attract kind of vibe for their paired entry. For this, she's going to go with a little bit of a swap on primary colors, bringing red to the forefront to counter her own paler and greener natural colors. For that, this deep crimson halter dress is absolutely gorgeous! The shimmer and shine on it will look great with all the jewelry she knows Cascade loves, and is what she would call 'tastefully' revealing. It calls to mind Cascade's usual red shawl but in primary, and the free-flowing hem will look great in the spins. There's a subtle floral motif that she'll carry into other parts of the look, too [and don't mind the silver, Mino will swap it for gold].

Bottoms: The dress is a bit short cut, though, so Mino also slides forth these shorts to wear beneath! They keep up Cascade's black and gold preference, and will create a fun peek-a-boo effect. They'll keep Cascade comfortable and should be plenty capable of keeping up during the dance :)

Shoes:  Right, the 'shoe' situation. Hrmm hrmm hrmm, Mino hasn't had to work with hooves before. She trusts Cascade to supply all the jewelry she has but doesn't want to go with just that... so how about these 'barefoot sandals' in gold color? They continue the floral motif and will look so fun between the hem of the shorts and Cascade's hooves! They're delicate looking yet sturdy enough that they won't need to worry about pieces flying off or getting damaged, too. Mino will make sure they're probably fitted to hooves!

Hair/Hat: What's that? A little bit of green in your wardrobe, Cascade? Well what a perfect color to round out the crimson and gold and also tie back into Mino's own outfit and colors she'll be wearing! It's tough to pick something that wont interfere with Cascade's pretty horns (why would we ever want to hide those!), so for her hair, Mino'll help tie up those pretty black tresses into this gold and emerald piece with vine and floral motifs! She'll leave some flyaways to to accentuate the spins, but not enough to get into Cascade's eyes, and this will pull everything back to really show off how pretty those horns are.

Other Accessories: So. Many. Accessories.... Rather than a free-flowing shawl (that could get lost in the dance!) Mino is supplying this golden lace shawl instead that fits more like a bolero top! The deep golden hue is so, SO pretty and will look gorgeous with Cascade's own natural tones. It won't be at risk of flying off and the front clasp can be adjusted with any piece of jewelry from Cascade's own (impressive) personal collection. NOW! That being said, Mino has picked out a few suggestions! She wants to continue the emerald compliment color with these various pieces: a chain circlet similar to what she's seen Cascade rock before but not as in her face and possibly a distraction; these thick cloth emerald and gold bangles and bands (love a solid block of color!); these bracelet and ring combo with chain across the hands (a classic look for her); and lastly these gold floral ear cuffs (modified for tiefling ears!) that'll pair well with the hair piece. Mino of course encourages Cascade to supplement whatever jewelry she wishes! She knows she is but an amateur in comparison >flushed<
