But please also consider two complicating factors:

1. Dracula was published later after Oscar Wilde's trial, where homoerotic literature was used as a way to prove sodomy. The Picture of Dorian Grey is also more explicitly homosexual than Dracula, to Wilde's detriment.

2. There is a complicated discussion to be had about girls having crushes on other girls being more permissable as long as she grows up and marries anyway. Lesbianism was more "unimaginable" in Victorian society because of the presumption that you grow out of it with social pressure. You, hypothetical Victorian woman, don't get that much choice about your sexual partners anyway.

But one of the things this means is that the situation in Palestine is even more urgent, because we know that while Kamala might have, Trump isn't going to listen to any calls to lessen America's support of violence in Palestine. Waleed Ayman Alanqar and family - vetted (#107) - The fundraiser is for Waleed, his wife Areej Haniyyeh, and their 3 year old son, Ayman. They were forced from their home almost a year ago. The fundraiser is to help them raise the money needed for the family of 3 to evacuate to Egypt. Alaa and family - vetted - Alaa and her husband were displaced from their home on October 7, while Alaa was pregnant. Alaa's husband died before their daughter was even born, and now Alaa is raising her baby without him, after having to give birth without the needed medical care. Because of the poor conditions, her daughter has been suffering from illness, including a viral stomach infection and histolytica worms. Alaa needs to pay for her daughter's medical treatments, and for milk and diapers which are very expensive in Palestine right now. They have $14,280 raised out of their $30,000 goal. Wafaa Abdul Karim Abu Al-Rish and family - vetted / vetted - The fundraiser is for Wafaa (@wafaaresh3) and her family, which includes her mother, her brother Mohi (@mohiy-gaza), her sister Fidaa (@fidaa-family2), and Fidaa's two children (Sila, who is two years old, and Mohamed, who is 6 months old). They also have a cat. They have been displaced more than 10 times. Wafaa's mother has chronic illness (hypertension), and is unable to access her medicine, which means her health is getting increasingly worse over time. The main goal of the fundraiser is to help the family evacuate to Egypt. Wafaa's fundraiser has $74,018 raised out of her $85,000 goal.

Billy Batson Headcanon Part 3 (?)

This is the third official part, I think. Fair warning: I'm British, not American. Also, trigger warnings for references to genocide and child abuse.

Anyway, so here's something that's been kicking about in my head for a while: indigenous!Billy.

I don't even know where the thought came from, initially, but it's grown and expanded and has been a fairly cohesive thought, so I've elected to share it anyway.

Billy is, to me, half native on his mother's side. I'm not to certain which tribe, but I treat Fawcett as Philadelphia. So, I imagine a tribe from that area. Possibly Powhatan? It's the only one I can name in the North West.

Anyway, this works in my head because of Billy's original lore with Mary. Twin siblings separated at birth. This was an actual practice that was happening in the 40's, all the way through to the mid 60's. It's called the termination era.

In this headcanon, Mary was taken from their mother at birth and given to rich white family, just as what happens anyway. This time, on top of just being because they're wealthy and their mother is poor, it would also be because the Bromfields are "civilised" and the Batsons are "not".

This, to me, makes sense. It also gives more credence to the way Billy is treated in the original canon. No one really seems to care that he's homeless. They never acknowledge it. It feels like this kind of neglect is more likely if he is a native child, especially one that's visibly native. People of the 40's just would not have cared.

Con: Cant sleep from the sheer amount of dread over feeling like the country the little girl I used to be felt so much pride and love for is slipping away faster than I can grasp for it. Its feeling like we were finally making some progress in the topics I was involved in, proud of doing my duty of an "active community member" as i'd always been raised to be. I'm going to be so real I do not understand tim & steph shippers who feel that Steph dating Tim again would save her character. You can make an argument that giving Tim a more compelling love interest would be beneficial for him! And you can at least make an argument that the fujo mischaracterization of Steph would stop. However she'd still, inevitably, be treated as a prop character/extension for someone more popular 😭 it also wouldn't make her appear in more books! Tim doesn't have many frequent appearances at the moment either! You can just say you like the couple and want them back together without acting like you have some kind of moral stance

I saw The Brutalist yesterday, and after digesting it, the one thought i keep coming to (perhaps unfairly; it is a great movie) is that i find the amount of sexual violence is films nowadays very disturbing. Not that it's not a theme worth exploring, or one that can't ever be brought up in a meaningful and respectful way, but this over representation suggests that society at large is becoming more accustomed to it. I really do think we owe it to the generalisation of porn. By my account, in 2024 alone, we had sexual violence, outright rape and/or sexual exploitation appear in (spoilers):

Even in films which don't involve explicit rape, sexual scenes are often violent or imply violence, either physical or psychological. Violence to others, AND violence to the self. Like the sex scene in The Substance between Sue and her no-name boyfriend, in which she is very dominant and aggressive (which is not depicted as a good thing because this sexual power she gained from a new young body is just an illusion of power). Better Man shows the casual exploitation of young men including at least one minor in a very sexual setting (gay clubs) to make their producer money. In Babygirl, the main character's professional career and personal life are threatened by her "submissive/dominant" "role play" affair. etc. etc.

There is also a recurring theme of wanting to escape one's body or transform it (Emilia Perez, Nightbitch, The Substance, Conclave, A Different Man, even Better Man to an extent are all examples of this), which seems connected, especially when body horror is involved.

I don't know, maybe i'm exaggerating, but it really feels like there is this constant anxiety surrounding sex which permeates all art forms because it's a real societal concern, and i truly believe the ubiquity of violent pornography is to blame. I can't think of a single scene of genuine, loving sex. Or even a genuine romance in general.

It's concerning and no media outlet is really bringing it up (because it's uncomfortable to think about, probably, but still).

Oh, sure! For starters, I'm a vampire but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I'm also a witch, and I go to a magic school called Hogwarts in England where I'm in the seventh year (I'm seventeen). I'm a goth (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow. I was walking outside Hogwarts. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of preps stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.
