For the character meme...let's go with a hard one, Nate Ford! And also Sophie Devereaux, if no one has sent her to you yet. ;)
Yeah, let's do both!
(Send me a character!)
Nate Ford
do I like them: I've gone back and forth on this over the years, but I'm going to say yeah, yeah I do. S5 contributes A LOT to this as do multiple rewatches of the series (I did like...four in 2021 in the span of 3 months...it was kind of wild). Also personally healing my own relationship with my father (who was already passed when the og series premiered) helped with this a lot.
5 good qualities: smart, focused, really good at long-term planning, sees the big picture, protective of his loved ones
3 bad qualities: manipulative, arrogant, self-righteous
favourite episode/etc: I'm torn between what I feel is maybe the obvious answer (The Cross My Heart Job, "I didn't kill you. God killed you. I just made sure it took.") and the episode that has surprisingly popped up in my head for this prompt which is The Inside Job. I know that's a Parker episode, but like the dad stand off on the roof with Archie? "You're going in after her?" "Always was." ENDS ME.
otp: Sophie/Nate. I was what, 15 when this show came on? Since I was 15. HALF MY LIFE NEARLY.
brotp: Nate & Parker. I highly suggest doing a watchthrough with eyes only for the Nate & Parker dynamic. It is fantastic.
ot3: Hmm...see, again, I feel like the obvious answer here is Sophie/Nate/Sterling, which piques my interest, but I don't feel it the way I necessarily feel, like, Sophie/Nate and then Sophie with occasional secondary partners. (And for those of you who were not around this weekend to witness my quick and graceless descent into one such situation, here you go. One iteration of how that might have worked out.)
notp: I feel like the relationships on this show are so well laid-out without becoming uninteresting that this is actually hard because a lot of notps were explicitly not really made possibilities in the first place. Nate/Eliot maybe???
best quote: "I didn't kill you. God killed you. I just made sure it took." but honorable mention to "My name is Nate Ford, and I am a thief."
Honestly I really cannot stress how this dude is an extreme version of everyone at the American church/Catholic school I grew up at. Which is not to say I like it, but he's perhaps the most compelling exploration of the well-meaning yet self-righteous white man Catholic mentality that's graced my screen since Jed Bartlet.
head canon: Ok I'm going to do a combined one for Nate and Sophie since I'm doing Sophie next.
Omg I have so many mini ones, especially during that happy period when he's retired. But hmm, a lot of times when I think about retired Nate, I think about that Bob's Burgers Mother's Day episode where Lin gets into a series of unfortunate events and gets separated from her family. Bob takes the kids to look for her, and while they're looking, he takes suggestions from the kids about where she could be and learns about secret little rituals she has with each of them that Bob doesn't know about.
And I kind of like that dynamic for both Nate and Sophie. So like when Eliot, Hardison, and Parker come to visit, they don't always show up together, and they have little things that are just theirs. Like Nate and Eliot have their book club that they're both very serious about, Nate and Hardison have their long distance chess game that Hardison keeps up on a computer and Nate has open in a room in the back, and Nate and Parker are surprisingly adept at model ship building together.
Sophie gets better at boundaries over the years but is also a huge snoop. She finds out and gets a little weepy tbh.
And then the Sophie version of this is: Sophie & Eliot's side winery business which is propping up a way larger portion of the US economy than you'd think, Sophie & Hardison going out for elaborate theater/musical/concert/museum gala dates (he hacks them Hamilton tickets, front row, and looks over at her very enthusiastically at "Immigrants / we get the job done"), and Sophie & Parker stealing but also frequenting cult film things like Rocky Horror and The Room.
Sophie Devereaux
do I like them: Yeah, she's probably the fictional love of my life
5 good qualities: brilliant teacher (which I think she never would have discovered had she not met the crew), empathetic, appreciative of art (physical or other people's skillsets), also something about how she believes in very little and yet still pursues some level of moral right, also this is interesting because I have "selfish" down below but she's incredibly generous with both her heart and when it comes to teaching people and skills she admires
3 bad qualities: manipulative, selfish, turns deflecting into an art form tbh
favourite episode/etc: Everything is so hard with this show lol. I’m still going to say The Corkscrew Job because I love love that scene where she sells Madigan the exact same wine. It’s 100% just Sophie doing what she does best. But also The King George Job has that scene with her talking about her art skills and it’s absolute gilded perfection every time.
I listed about 5 others but I’m exercising self control and stopping at those two.
otp: Sophie/Nate, though I talked myself into Tara as a long-term secondary partner so thoroughly this week that I'm honestly struggling to function a little. I'm not opposed to Sophie/Harry either. Sophie/Grifting? Sophie/being alright and comfortable with herself.
brotp: Sophie & Hardison (though I need to heavily heavily emphasize how much I love Sophie & Parker)
ot3: Sophie/Tara/Maggie would be like super super cute down the road, I think!
notp: Omg I can ship her with so many people...but not Hardison. And I will be forever screaming about the scene where he calls her "mum" for the rest of my life, thank you.
best quote: THIS IS HARD. Let's go with "This life is not worth living without the people that make us want to tear down those walls; the thrill of vulnerability, the danger of opening your heart. It makes us feel alive."

OT3FIC: American Eskimo Dog
28 -  summer pineapple delude quirky astound greasy moonlight bait
The dogs had had the most excitable day and were all laid about, panting heavily and relaxing after all the excitement across the dry grass of the backyard under the dappled shade of the tree above on the hot summer evening. Will felt an innate wish to be just like them and lay out there as dusk started and the group surrounding the barbecue and smoker drank their beers, and those flitting about the outdoor table put the final place settings and salads out. It had been almost as exhausting keeping up with the conversation of the last two hours as the constant running and spinning the dogs had done.
It wasn’t like any Fourth of July that the empath had ever participated in recently.  Usually he spent the day doing work around the property, maybe a trip to the only open takeaway for Chinese food and trying not to let the dogs go too crazy at the fireworks on the other side of the forest. This year though, Will had found himself surrounded by some of the FBI’s most wanted as well as some others that would have been beyond his belief if someone had told him before he met the blonde that they existed.  It wasn’t even like any of the strange ‘holidays’ that had cropped up in his life.
Since Jo and Grey had moved in, Will’s concept of what constituted a family event had changed and broadened significantly.
Will now found that there were days called Death Days which called for celebration - or rather copious amounts of alcohol and tight hugs that he had thus far managed to avoid being a part of. There were three of them still living that celebrated these - Jo’s usually involving a visit from the brother’s and grumpy surrogate dad; Dean’s was usually one where Jo would be from home and not back for a few days where she would practically fold in on herself in tears in the threshold upon getting home; Sam’s seemingly was a little more joyous an occasion where the tall hunter and his brother would bring fireworks and dubbed it more affectionately Apocalypse Aversion Day (though Will had learned through a hushed conversation with the blonde while she was very intoxicated that this was his second Death Day date but none of them wanted to ever think about the original one and the wheels that put in motion) - and then there were the ones in memoriam. There was one for Jo’s father but that was always her own private day where Will would be lucky to see her at all before sunset, and then it would be straight to bed with warm arms circling her. There was another for a man called John, who so far as Will could tell was the overbearing and controlling, estranged father for the other two hunters, but Jo seemed to spend those talking to the boys on the phone and lighting a pyre in the field for some reason or other. He’d learned there was a date for the older hunter’s wife too, where Jo would visit for a week and come home exhausted and needing sleep more than others.
There were happier seeming occasions and more normal holidays as well like Christmas (which always had a funny story about pagans and an evil witch), and birthday’s. But there was also more obscure ones - like how Jo would go to New Orleans every year for Mardi Gras and only ever explained the rationale as “I’ve got a friend I need to keep honest on the tips. And maybe a patron to see”; and a date that Will had dubbed Monster Day in his mind which always had Grey’s siblings suddenly inundating the farm, or at least the ones in bodies which was still strange to wrap his head around, and Jo scurrying out to the forest away from them after a warm greeting. There was Samhain not Halloween, there was other pagan-based reflections that Jo claimed it was “just smart” to stay in favor of, and there was a date Grey called Love Day not long before Valentine’s Day itself where he would suddenly lavish Jo with gifts. There was also another Love Day which was much the same but to himself, and Will still blushed every time when he realized it was the anniversary of their first time and just how much effort Grey put into being a calm and nurturing presence around him that day.
But that they were doing something particularly normal, particularly average and particularly mundane like Fourth of July was more unusual than normal in the grand scheme of things.
“Comin’ through!” The loud call came from the back door as Will turned his head to the noise to spout Jo spinning about blindly with an entire crate of beers held in her arms with another case on top blocking her face from her path as two of the shadows quickly disperses from her path between the door and the cooler.
“Jo, you shouldn’t-” “I was a freakin’ bartender for longer than you’ve been topside. I can handle some beers.” “Really Cupcake, that’s uncalled for.” “Oh whatever, out of m’ way!”
Will watched in amusement from against the oak’s trunk as Jo bouldered her way across the grass and sat the cartons down as the quirky strangest of the shadow’s ran over to help her unload them and begin filling the coolers. Shada who had objected to the idea of so much manual labor sniffed and turned back to setting out flower vases, candles, salad bowls and other elements along the long picnic table with the tall blonde shadow-girl following her pointed demands with a constant bobbing of her head. The fourth shadow, the dark haired one who always seemed up to causing trouble rolled his eyes watching his siblings and the blonde huntress before turning his attention back to the slightly taller, gangly looking hunter that had been nursing a single beer for four hours and counting but was somehow still wobbling on his feet.
He’d not thought much other than embarrassment upon meeting the eldest of the siblings - or who he perceived to be such, Grey had once tried to explain the concept of age against terminology but it had been a struggle and he had been much more interested in him using his mouth for something other than the explanation at the time - when she appeared during one of their chore days, but since then Shada had grown on him. Especially when he realized that the shadow was just as fiercely protective of her brother as he himself was. The tall blonde - Ombre - had been the next one he’d met, and while she’d been sweet and quiet and demure, Will couldn’t help but think she was trouble waiting to happen one day, like a young child not yet learning to throw her temper tantrums in the terrible twos. Mail had been next, though he’d been accompanied at the time by the fourth one who still hadn’t quite decided or settled on a name for himself (cycling through generic names including the awkward visit he demanded to be called Consuela Banana Hammock), and Will had found both brother’s almost as equally strange in their own ways as one another. Mail’s inability to sit correctly was almost as weird as the way the other would delude himself into thinking he had struck on gold in a conversation when he just made everything odd.
“Did you need anything else for the barbecue?” Grey called out from the back door towards the group of hunters around the charcoal grill, his head poking out from the back door before he started his own passage towards the dining table with yet another salad for the meal. “More tongs or-”
“Don’t worry, we’ve got it Grey.” “More beers would be good though-” “Dean, Jo just brought out more, get one yourself you lazy asshole.” “Bitch.”
“You idjits better shut up and get me a new beer by the time you’re done arguing.” Bobby’s voice cut over whatever Sam might have said in response along with the metal ting of the tongs against the edge of the grill as he growled back at them. There was a laugh from the table and near the drinks as the two girls, closest and strangely good friends from what Will had learned, so different but so similar laughed in response to the hunter’s grumpiness as Dean kicked at the dried clumps of grass under foot.
Looking over at the trio of hunters to that side, joined quickly by the fourth male hunter at the gathering as the shadow currently going by Ben Dover for the day moved towards annoying one of his siblings and Garth Fitzgerald IV moved to the rest of his own group; Will knew that if Jack had any inkling of who was currently flipping steaks, burgers and smoking a pork butt at his house, it would be the most tempting bait to drive the FBI director towards madness.
Of the four hunters, Will had found himself connecting far more to the older hunter than either of the three closer to his own age. A man living alone a large plot of land far away from town, who preferred the company of his canine companion and the solitude of providing for ones self, was definitely someone that Will could always get along with. The gangly hunter, that Jo and Grey alike swore was a werewolf, was probably his second favorite of Jo’s little side to the family - though he had freaked Will out on their first meeting by pulling him into an exceptionally tight hug; the fact that upon releasing Will, Garth had looked shocked, asked if he was a “touch aversion type” and apologized profusely before never doing the same despite the generous bear hugs Jo and Grey alike would get upon greeting had made a soft spot in the agent’s heart for him. Sam and Dean fell somewhere together, inseparable really the same way they were in all ways that Will had seen, but the more he saw the pair and also saw them around Jo and Grey, the more he liked the pair. Dean was gruff and politically incorrect to Sam’s quiet and sass, and Will had been astounded to realize that he appreciated the both for what they had to offer.
“Alright alright, this lot is done, someone get me the fuckin’ fruit.” “Right here, Bobby!” “Well then bring it over, ya brat, I can’t cook it from over there!”
Will shook his head a little, watching as the older hunter piled one of the foil trays that Grey had brought out high with beef and chicken and even some fish burger patties before the shadow covered the tray with more tin foil and moved it towards the table while Bobby scraped off the surface. They moved in tandem that pair, as if synchronized dancers even though Will knew it was more an innate knowledge of cooking that they shared more than experience or practice.
“Girlie, where-” “Here, you old grump!” “ ‘Bout time.”
The blonde hunter had bounded over after a small amount of rummaging with a few air-tight containers at Bobby’s insistence, setting the containers down before hurrying back towards the table to help guide Mail into the correct way to set out cutlery. Will could tell the second that the first slice went down that it was that glorious sticky, spicy pineapple slices recipe that Grey had been developing and that made Will’s mouth tingle with a mix of the acid of the fruit itself, the slight heat of the spice and the natural sweetness as well as the slight crunch of the demerera sugar included that formed the best crystals of crunchy caramel when they were cooked just right. There were also fresh peaches cut and quartered that he knew were for Jo’s favorite salad and that if Hannibal was there he would have had to concede the grilled peach, mozzarella and prosciutto salad worked fantastically well on a balmy summer’s evening like this when the sun was just crossing the horizon and would finally give way to the night. He even figured there might be some watermelon for the feta and rocket salad he’d suggested they try the next time that Shada was visiting from what one of the spectacularly boring looking salads on the table looked like.
“I’ve got to say, the amount of salad is great this year, Jo.” “Oh yes, Sam, Cupcake definitely made the right choices this year!” “I’m excited to try some of them-” “Of course you are, Ombre. At least there’s no Ambrosia salad-” “What salad?!” “It’s bits of canned fruit! In marshmallow!” “Ewwwww!”
The cries from the two female shadows, their voices loud and high pitched in their disgust perking the ears of the dogs that lay about tired and nearby, curiously cocking toward the noise before all of them besides Zoe decided it wasn’t worth investigating. The small dog snuffed her way around, giving a wide berth to the shadows but looking at them curiously until she was picked up in the loving hold of the werewolf with a scratch under her chin as the group of hunter’s shook their heads at the girls’ antics.
Will found himself shaking his head with the same bemusement as he watched the pair go back and forth over why that “isn’t a salad” or “isn’t food” and then further onto the real question of “why is human food so weird sometimes” which he thought was a valid question, as the eldest hunter began to slowly take the remaining steaks and sausages, chicken strips and the vegetarian options off of the grill into respective foil packages that Sam, Dean or Grey would ferry to the dining table while Jo wrangled the lid of the smoker off with the help of Garth to pull the pork butt out; as if the greasy and somewhat unhealthy but altogether delicious meats might prove the girls’ perceptions wrong without much trouble.
“You know, this is a very old tree.” “Yes it is.” “It had deep roots.” “Yep.” “You will weather any storm with roots this deep.”
The empath wasn’t even surprise to hear the gravelly voice beside himself all of a sudden. The final member of their party for the night was always a late comer according to his best friend; and that the angel had popped in from his busy schedule to simply enjoy a barbecue with friends was touching enough. That, as Will turned slightly to look out the corner of his eye, he could see the angel staring at him in return rather than the knotted roots of the tree they were metaphorically discussing was even more touching. Of all the family, he’d been the one Will automatically connected too even more than Bobby - and giving a small smile, the empath waved a hand towards the table as the moonlight started to rise to shine over them all.
“Ready for some dinner, Cas?” “Thank you for the invitation, Will. You and yours are very accommodating.” “We try to be.”
“It is very good. You are all very good, and you should feel blessed.” Cas’ voice was somewhat tighter than usual and as Will patted a hand on the surprisingly small shoulder under his grip, the other nodded in agreement looking out as their dogs dozed, and both sides of his favorite people’s families merged and mingled together in a mass of smiles and laughter, Will knew that the words were entirely true. It was very good, they were all very good and he sure as heck felt blessed as he caught the eye of his love’s and the way their smiles both widened for him.

2019!
I've done this year-in-review thing since 2007! 2007-2012 are over on my old LiveJournal, and 2013-on are right here on my Tumblr. :)
2020. 2020! That year sounds space-age or something lol, and not like it's just, well, tomorrow. Happy New Year, Tumblr!
What did you do in 2019 that you'd never done before?
Not too much, lol! I guess I just kept doing the things I usually do, but tried to do them better/improve them (when it comes to work!), or do more of them (fun times and family times!).
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Every year I mention that I don't really make New Year's resolutions - more like little goals all year! - but hey, it's a new decade! This year I think I will make a resolution that I will hold myself to. In 2020, I resolve to work hard - like really hard - on being healthy! Eat right, exercise, lose weight, work on maintaining less stress - be good to myself! I know everyone makes that kind of resolution, but it's a good one for a reason. :)
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Aw, no new babies this year!
Did anyone close to you die?
Sadly, yes... my uncle (my dad's oldest brother) passed away in May. ♥ We also lost a beloved neighbor in August.
What countries did you visit?
Lol, none!
What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019?
I seemed to lack the ability to chill this year, haha - I stressed out about everything! :O So I’m ready to go with the flow better in 2020!
What date(s) from 2019 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Can’t think of any big dates, but this December marked 5 years since I graduated (and gave a speech at the departmental ceremony, to toot my own horn lol!) from the University of Maryland! Time is bizarre - 5 years feels both forever ago and also not that far back!
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I’ve been working in the registrar’s office at a community college for three years now! I love it, and I’m proud of the work I do!! :)
What was your biggest failure?
Everything’s a learning experience of course lol, but thankfully I didn’t goof too bad this year! ;)
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Oh my goodness, I started off the year with a thumping in my right ear (the name for it is “pulsatile tinnitus” - which somehow makes it sound scary!). :O Happily, that mess dissipated in a few months’ time, but it sure did worry (and annoy) me! Other than that - all good! :)
What was the best thing you bought?
I was very fortunate this year to buy a few things that really made me smile!
I do love a perfume! Dior Addict is a stunning, spicy vanilla (I love ‘em sweet!) that really hits the spot.
I’m also pleased, on the “I stan goofy dance music” front, to have found a couple of old Ministry of Sound compilations that I’ve had bookmarked on Amazon for awhile - they came back in stock this year and I snatched ‘em up. Anthems Sound of Dubstep (2012) is brash and obnoxious fun, and Sessions Ten (2013) is slightly less brash but just as obnoxious so I love it. They’re both releases from the Australian arm of MOS!
Oh and one of my fave used record stores had a copy of one of DJ Rap’s “Bad Girl” CD singles with mixes I didn’t have; I was kinda shocked to see it and very very happy to buy it! It was only 99 cents. Wow!! I do like a ridiculous deal! :)
Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mom is amazing, as always, and so are my dad and brother! I love my fam!!
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one!
Where did most of your money go?
See above - my more frivolous spending went toward perfume and goofy dance tunes, haha!
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I will never, ever forget opening a very special present for Christmas this year. I love and adore It’s a Wonderful Life, and I even wrote a paper about it in college. I used a fabulous book as one of my sources - The It’s a Wonderful Life Book by Jeanine Basinger - and since then I’ve always had it in the back of my mind to purchase it someday. It’s a fantastic keepsake kinda thing for a fan of the movie. Unfortunately it always seemed to be out of stock, or way too expensive to consider, so over time I kind of just put it on the back burner.
But just a few days ago on Christmas morning as we all opened gifts, I tore wrapping paper off a box, pulled off the box top, and bam - there it was. Decorative tissue paper obscured it, but I could see the book cover peeking through - The It’s a Wonderful Life Book! My mama, the best mama, found this awesome book for me! My Christmas - my year! - was made! ♥
What song will always remind you of 2019?
Here’s a Spotify playlist of the songs that I loved this year; most are old releases lol. New(er) songs and albums I loved this year:
“Like Sugar” by Chaka Khan. Funky!
“Lost in the Fire” by Gesaffelstein feat. The Weeknd. Cool and atmospheric!
“Lights Up” by Harry Styles. Boy band guy makes good lol! Great tune.
Mazy Fly (2019) by SPELLLING. Dark, richly layered, weird, beautiful.
The Destroyer - 1 and The Destroyer - 2 (2019) by TR/ST. Two EP-ish releases that make up a whole album-ish listen. The Destoyer - 1 slightly edges out the second release, but I just like hearing so much synthy TR/ST goodness!
Compared to this time last year (2018), are you:
Doin' all right, and hopeful for a great start to 2020!
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Listen to more albums - new or old! The last few years I seem to listen to a handful of albums a year, then spend the rest of my music-listening time playing dance music compilations. Ah well, maybe I'll catch up on my massive "to listen" list in the next decade lol!
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stress (see above lol) - but I'm def working on it! :)
How did you spend Christmas?
Family time!! ♥
What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2019?
Nothing, yay lol!
How many one-night stands?
None lol
What was your favorite TV program?
Tumblr media
My silly cartoons! Family Guy, American Dad, Bob's Burgers, and SpongeBob SquarePants (lol idk, nostalgia is hard to kick!) still make me laugh even though I am otherwise a perfectly reasonable adult. :)
Tumblr media
Bravo's Real Housewives - all of 'em! - crack me up and bring the totally ridiculous drama!
Tumblr media
The Orville is fantastic, one of my fave more recent shows. I love the cast! Each episode really adds to their stories and builds the show's world. Looking forward to the next season!
Tumblr media
Emergence is a great new sci-fi show with a strong cast - especially the sensible, big-hearted lead Allison Tolman - and suspenseful storyline!
Tumblr media
I haven't seen the first season, and to be honest I don't think I'd be able to explain what the heck it's actually about because I'm easily confused, but American Gods caught my attention this year! The cast is excellent - even if the plot escaped me, lol, I really got into the characters.
Tumblr media
And What We Do In The Shadows! Such a delight!!
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2019?
I love a classic, slightly minimal style, but I'm just happy to look decently put-together lol!
What kept you sane?
My fam, my entertainment stuff (music, movies, TV, magazines), working with wonderful colleagues... ♥
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No! :O
What was the best book you read in 2019?
The It’s a Wonderful Life Book was probably the best book I read (well, most of it!) this decade. ♥
What was your greatest musical discovery?
SPELLLING is awesome - definitely an artist I'm excited to hear more from!!
What did you want and get?
I won't say The It’s a Wonderful Life Book again! :)
On a more serious note, I had my first MRIs in a while for MS maintenance - my previous neurologist retired and my new doctor wanted to get a baseline. I was very, very anxious about getting the results. My former doctor last ordered an MRI in 2011, so this was definitely a good and highly necessary step, but very nerve-wracking! I'm so fortunate to not be experiencing symptoms - and haven't since my initial occurrence of optic neuritis in '09 (though I was actually diagnosed with MS in 2011) - but what might the MRIs (brain and T- and C-spine) reveal?
I wanted to receive good results - a report of stability, not progression. And would you believe it? I did. My (amazing!) neurologist gave me the greatest news I had all year - stable, no new lesions, all good!! Of course this is for now - who knows about the future? - but I'm thrilled, and thankful. As this year ends and I reflect on all the good, this takes the cake!!
What did you want and not get?
Pffft, nothin' lol! I've got so many lovely things and reasons to be thankful - who could ask for more?!
What was your favorite film of this year?
Tumblr media
Lol I did not see many new movies, but of the '19 films I saw, my fave was Knives Out! I only just saw it yesterday - what a fun way to close out the year! Fantastic cast, clever story, funny - just all-around entertainment.
Tumblr media
I also loved Yesterday. All the Beatles references and the obvious affection for the group and their fans just felt like a great big hug! So good!
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Girl I'm well and truly a thirty-something now - 33!! I had fun! I did lots of little fun things with my fam - like shopping, watching movies, that kind of good stuff!
What three things would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Like I said above - who could ask for more? Not me! :)
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Tumblr media
I'm late to the David Harbour bandwagon - but better late than never!
Tumblr media
And also Daniel Craig in Knives Out was a good thing.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Ew, there's something stirring like every hour or so.
Who did you miss?
Losing my grandmother at the end of last year really colored a lot of this year... and then losing my uncle added more shadows. ♥♥♥
What is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2019?
I always answer this one with a twist on the Pet Shop Boys song title and my life philosophy - "Happiness is an option." So here we go! The chorus of the song acknowledges that "it is not easy," and some times are definitely like that. This year had those moments, and next year will too, because that's how life is! It is often not easy.
But! The last bit of the chorus follows "it is not easy" with "happiness is an option." Things can stink, but they can be okay too. That's what "happiness is an option" has always meant to me, and it means that just as much this year. Maybe even more!!
What quote can be used to sum up your year?
See above haha! "Happiness is an option” has been my fave quote for years, and I’m gonna keep on living it! :)

Here’s the Adult Swim schedule for Monday, June 25 to Sunday, July 1.
Joe Pera is airing its first season again on the weekday lineup. Expect a change next week.
New Infomercial Monday. It’s a half hour, first time I think that’s happened. Seems to be related to As Seen on Adult Swim.
Pop Team Epic replaces Dragon Ball Z Kai on Toonami. My Hero Academia and FLCL: Progressive get a timeslot promotion.
Mostly 4 Millenials premieres on Sunday. Two episodes a week, once again.
But I feel like I need to question this. Is Adult Swim losing the rights to King of the Hill? They might be. Here’s my evidence:
The Saturday and Sunday schedules have changed to remove KOTH. The Cleveland Show replaces it Saturday at 5a and Sunday at 8a. American Dad and Bob’s Burgers encores replace it at 5a Sunday.
KOTH doesn’t air before Toonami on Saturdays anyway, but I feel like if it did, that would be the last you’d see of it. Looks like the moment the time in Atlanta goes from 6/30 11:59p to 7/1 12:00a that night, Adult Swim loses the rights to the show.
I could be wrong though, here’s why:
If Adult Swim was losing the rights to one of their shows, wouldn’t they be making a big deal out of it? When Adult Swim lost Futurama they were extremely open about how much they’d miss it and made lots of promos and bumps centered around it. Not to mention they also gave it a 6 day farewell marathon. The last day it aired was December 31, 2007, and once the clock turned to midnight that night, they lost the rights (and aired Family Guy during the repeat timeslot instead).
Could be preparing a marathon. Adult Swim released a schedule last September that had no Bob’s Burgers the entire week. I was like “oh god are they losing one of their flagship shows?”. That wasn’t the case. They gave the show a surprise 5-hour marathon on a Thursday instead, to honor Pete Smith retiring from Williams Street (his daughter writes for the show). Maybe they’re doing a propane-fueled marathon for July 4?
Either way, I don’t know. We’ll see the answers whenever Adult Swim posts the schedule for next week.

Pricescott drabble, #81?
So this is supposed to take place when Chloe’s like 16 and still going to Blackwell.  It’s also probably way too cute and sweet but dammmit, they both suffered enough.
Chloe didn’t know what hurt worse: her leg or her pride.  She felt like an idiot wiping out in front of Justin and Trevor and she knew they’d never let her live it down.  It didn’t matter that she was better at skateboarding than them, that Trevor ended up hitting himself in the nuts on almost a daily basis.  Her fuckup was the basis of a remark that “Girls can’t skate,” or some bullshit like that.  It was the least she could do to pretend that she wasn’t hurt.  It took everything in her to act like it didn’t hurt, to continue hanging around until it started raining and then forced herself not to limp as they walked back to the dorms.
As she looked up the stairs she had to climb, she couldn’t deny the throbbing any longer.  It was a pretty gnarly scrape, not deep enough to be of any real concern but enough that there was blood seeping down her leg.  It hurt with every beat of her pulse.  The thought of her lower leg flexing as she walked up the stairs seemed like torture, not to mention just another thing to cause the bleeding to worsen.
“Holy shit Chloe, what happened?” a voice asked, shaking Chloe from her stupor.  It was Nathan Prescott.  She didn’t know much about him, other than the name, that he came from money, and that he was one of Rachel’s good friends.  Because of that, Chloe had always at least been pleasant towards him but she didn’t know if she was comfortable admitting she was in any sort of pain to him.
“I just hella fucked up while skating.  It’s no big deal.”  She could tell from the look Nathan was giving her that he knew she was full of shit. She was bleeding, for fucks sake, and the scrape did span a good portion of her calf and shin.
“You’re bleeding all over the God damn carpet.  You should go clean that up.”  When Chloe froze and averted his gaze, Nathan realized that she wasn’t going to do such things.  Nathan groaned, rolling his eyes, before grabbing her hand and dragging him to his room. He had a rather fancy first aid kit in there.  He told her to sit down on the couch while he grabbed it.
“Why do you have all this shit?” Chloe asked as Nathan grabbed all the things that were needed to properly clean and disinfect the wound.  She flinched as he pressed a cold wipe to her leg.
“Hold still.” Nathan’s voice was gentle, calm, like he had absolutely no qualms about the blood.  Chloe always assumed little rich bitches would be squeamish.  Hell, even she didn’t like the sight of blood. She was fairly desensitized to it after all the cuts and scrapes she’d enduring as a child, climbing trees and being pirates with Max, but she still didn’t think she could handle blood on a regular basis and be a nurse or something.  However, from how carefully Nathan treated the wound and how expertly he wrapped it in gauze, it appeared that he might make a fine nurse someday.
“Why are you so good at this?” Chloe asked as she further inspected the wrapping on her leg.
Nathan shrugged, hoping that would be a sufficient answer.  He didn’t want to get into it; he was starting to regret helping Chloe in the first place.  He couldn’t help it, though.  He knew all too well how much scrapes hurt, and the pain would be especially bad since it was on her leg and she had stairs to climb.  Anyone with an ounce of compassion would’ve offered to help.
Of course, he didn’t count on her actually asking him why he’d learned first aid skills.
“Nah, dude, really. Where’d you learn how to do this? It would be a useful skill to have.” Because that wasn’t the first time Chloe ate pavement while skateboarding and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.  Plus, she and Rachel had gotten quite a few nasty looking cuts while trying to clear out and customize that tiny abandoned building in American Rust.  When she had to doctor Rachel, she’d ended up using a forth of a tube of Neosporin and like six Band-aids.
Again, Nathan shrugged. “My dad made me take a first-aid class.” He wished he’d come up with the lie sooner because it certainly would rouse suspicion that he hadn’t outright said it.  Most people didn’t care to ask, or, like in the case of Victoria and Rachel, they already knew the real reason he was good at that stuff.  He’d had no choice but to get good.
And of course Chloe asked him why he hadn’t just outright told her because it wasn’t like first-aid courses were something to be embarrassed about.  It wasn’t like she could have known the real reason.  She couldn’t know that he’d gotten good at cleaning cuts and scrapes because of how angry his dad got.  She couldn’t know that he’d been taught by Kristine, and had gotten exponentially better at that care after she left.  What Chloe did know was that Nathan Prescott was sitting on his bed, crying.
“Oh God -please don’t- I’m sorry, I don’t know what I did but I’m sorry,” Chloe stammered out.  She was never good with tears, her own nor that of others, and she felt her pulse racing.  She hadn’t meant to upset him, however she’d done it, but she had to of done something awful if she was making Nathan-fucking-Prescott cry.
“Just go away…” Nathan attempted to command but his voice sounded so meek and fragile.
Chloe was conflicted. She was sure that leaving was the one thing a person wasn’t supposed to do when someone was crying.  Plus, Nathan didn’t really act like he wanted to be alone; she knew she absolutely hated being alone when she was crying.  It just made her feel worse.  So she did for Nathan what she knew she’d want if she was crying.  She got on the bed beside him and wrapped her arms around him.
“I’m sorry, Nathan, I’m sorry I’m such a fuck up…”  She really felt that way because, fuck, someone tried to help her and she made him cry without even meaning to! Nathan responded by leaning into her, letting her wrap her arms around him as he buried his head in her shoulder. He hated that he appeared so weak in front of someone he hadn’t really known that well, but he was actually very happy that he wasn’t alone.
Chloe lingered around Nathan’s room long after he’d stopped crying.  They both pretended like it hadn’t happened and just transitioned from cuddling on the bed to watching Netflix like it was something they always did. It was far less awkward than addressing what had happened.
At some point, Nathan ordered Chinese food to be delivered to his dorm room and asked Chloe if she wanted anything.  Chloe felt like she’d overstayed her welcome, but her leg was bruising and it felt so sore.  She also wasn’t going to turn down free food, especially since it was late enough that the cafeteria would be closed and she was famished.  It wasn’t like Nathan was acting in any way to make her feel like he didn’t want her around.  He seemed to be enjoying her company.  Surprisingly, she was enjoying his as well.
The Netflix marathon continued well after they finished their Chinese food.  It was mostly because they’d decided on watching Bob’s Burgers and Chloe was appalled that he’d only seen a few episodes.  He cited the art style being so weird that it turned him off of the show but she promised that if he ignored that he’d find the show hilarious.  Three episodes turned into six, twelve, and by midnight Chloe had fallen asleep on Nathan’s bed.
When she woke up the next morning, she found Nathan sleeping on his couch in a flannel pajama set. She was surprised that he hadn’t woke her up and told her to get the hell out of his room; that’s what she would’ve done regardless of who it was that had fallen asleep on her bed.  She sat up and stretched before deciding she needed to take the gauze off her leg to assess the damage.
She carefully unwrapped the gauze and removed the tape, trying not to make a mess as she did so. She still wondered how Nathan managed to wrap it so expertly, doing a good enough job that the wrapping didn’t fall off or even move during the night.  There were gradients of purples and yellows on her leg and the scrape had scabbed over.  There were bits of dried blood caked on that she would wash off in her morning shower.
She was only relaxing on the bed for a moment, playing on her phone and wondering if it would be more awkward if she just left or if Nathan found her still on his bed when he woke, before Nathan began to stir.  He rolled onto his back, giving her a sleepy smile as he wished her a good morning.  A light blush tinted her cheeks when the thought that he looked rather adorable entered her mind.  She didn’t need to be thinking about the Prescott kid like that. They were pretty much as opposite as could be.
Though, as she saw him go to his desk draw and not-so-sneakily take some pills out of orange prescription bottles, she thought that maybe they weren’t so different. She’d glanced at his movie collection the night before and they liked all of the same things.  She approved of a lot of the things on his Netflix Watch List. Plus, they were both artists in their own ways.
“I had a good time with you last night.  Maybe we could do it again sometime?”  Nathan was trying to hold eye contact with Chloe but found himself looking past her while he picked at his cuticles.  Again, Chloe found that he looked adorable.  Fuck.
“Hell yeah.  Gotta make sure you keep watching Bob’s Burgers! How about tomorrow night we get some burgers from Two Whales and watch more?”  Because watching Bob’s Burgers while eating burgers was one of the few simple pleasures in life that made Chloe really happy.
“Yeah, sounds good.”
Chloe knew Nathan was watching her as she put her skater shoes on, which she didn’t find entirely unpleasant.  It just made her face brighten.  She was hyperaware of her movements as she made her way to the door.  She turned back to face him, smiling as she told him she’d see him later.
It was then that Nathan moved towards her, pressing his lips against hers.  It was gentle, sweet, with a chasteness she found herself liking a lot more than she thought she would.  She normally liked things rough, with lots of raw emotion but it seemed fitting with how little they knew one another.  They needed to test one another a bit more before that could happen.  For the meantime, a cute little kiss was enough.
Chloe found herself smiling as she walked out of Nathan’s dorm room, curious as to what the future might hold for them.

Under the cut because of a long answer.
Do you feel comfortable wearing tube tops? Yikes.
Has something someone said today annoyed you? Not today, no. My brother in law is notorious for that, and he said something yesterday that annoyed me. We were talking about my crazy neighbor and he was like “you need to stay away from him.” and I was like um, yeah I know that. And then a minute later he was like “I’m not telling you that because I am your elder, I am telling you that because I care.” I HATE when people who are only slightly older than me tell me they are my “elder” FUCK THAT. And also, no, the tone in his voice definitely made it feel like he was telling me that because he didn’t think I understood the situation THAT I AM IN. God I fucking hate him.
Can you hear the crickets chirping at night? Sometimes in summer.
Do you like listening to new music, or just sticking to your favorites? I like both. Just depends what I’m in the mood for.
Did you ever feel that there was something you couldn’t tell anyone? I can’t really tell my brother in law what a fucking pretentious asshole he is because I feel like it would fuck things up between me and my sister and my niece and that baby is my life so I don’t want that to happen. Maybe when they inevitably get divorced I’ll tell him the fuck off.
Do you tend to gossip, even if you don’t mean it to cause harm? I’m definitely prone to it sometimes. I love being petty, haha.
When was the last time you were bitten by a bug? Recently. Basement apartments are fun.
Have you ever gotten your hair permed? Nope. At least I don’t think so. What is the actual definition of a perm? I’m just picturing like ridiculous poofy curls or something.
Do you have a pair of sunglasses that are worth over $200? My most expensive pair of sunglasses I own were $15 and they were my moms and I never actually wear them haha.
Would you ever go on a trip to Europe? Perhaps.
Are you brave when it comes to trying new foods? Oh yes. I love food. There are only a handful of things I don’t like, and they are pretty random.
When was the last time you saw your significant other? I can see him from where I am right now.
If you see a piano, are you tempted to go over and play a little something? Nah.
Has anyone teased you with the “K-I-S-S-I-N-G” song? Probably.
What time is it where you are? Exactly 2pm.
Have you ever owned a beanbag chair? Yeah. We are actually thinking of getting one to create a little reading nook when we get our big bookcase.
If you own a laptop, do you have a case for it? If I need to carry it I usually put it in my Bob’s Burgers tote bag.
What was the last movie you purchased on DVD? Oh man, I have no idea. I was going to buy Moana yesterday for my niece and I to watch while I babysat her but my sister said I could stream it on the Firestick. It ended up being $20 to do that so we definitely did not end up watching it. The DVD probably would have cost the same, but I would have kept it for my collection.
Do you do your own laundry? I haven’t done it here yet but I’m actually gunna take some to my dad’s in a bit because the washing machine here is SO SMALL and costs a dollar.
Have you ever used pastels? Yeah, in an art class.
Would you be considered to be knowledgeable about World War 2? Definitely not, aside from basics.
Will you bother having a party for your next birthday? I might have a small gathering with some close friends. Our wedding celebration is a few weeks after that so I don’t wanna do something huge. Which reminds me, I need to make an e-vite so people can start thinking about booking rooms. I also need to figure out some place to go to eat for a dinner.
Do you currently have a job? I do.
Are you one of those people who can eat anything and not gain a pound? That would be fucking amazing.
Do you know who you’re planning to ask to your grad prom? I have no idea what a grad prom is, but I’m out of school, so it’s irrelevant anyway. <---Yeah.
Are you having one of those days where you feel unattractive? Not really.
Do you like hot dogs? I was born and raise in Chicago. Most of my blood is made of hot dogs.
Have you been in any sort of physical pain today? My feet hurt when I woke up this morning, and I keep getting a kink in my back I need to crack every 10 minutes.
Have you ever heard of the German movie Das Boot? Yes, but only because of a reference to it in Home Movies.
Do you ever go on PerezHilton.com to get all the celeb gossip? Nope.
Do you wish your bedroom was bigger? It’s actually a great size.
Have you ever killed a car battery by leaving your lights on? Yup, oops.
Have you had the caramel flan latte from Starbucks yet? I don’t think I ever tried that one.
Have you ever dated a Ben? Nope.
Have you ever dated a ginger? Nope.
Have you ever dated someone outside of your race? Yes.
Do you prefer to text or call? Call if it’s urgent, text if it’s not.
What was the last TV show you watched? Nature Cat with my niece, haha.
Do you watch American Horror Story? I couldn’t get into it.
Have you ever lied to get out of a relationship? I may have when I was “dating” people on the internet years and years ago, haha.
Are you 21 or over? Yes. That reminds me, I was at Jewel yesterday and the cashier in the checkout next to the one I was at asked this guy if he was old enough to drink and the guy said yeah and he just rang him up without asking for ID.
Do you or have you ever had a fake ID? I didn’t.
Who is the last person you hugged? Mark.
Where was your first kiss? Under someone’s porch.
Have you ever had a crush on a teacher? Yeah, nothing major though.
What color are your nails? I still have specks of black on them from 2 months ago, haha.
Can you separate love and sex? Yeah. I don’t need to do it now because Mark and I have an amazing relationship that had both of those aspects, but mentally I can.
How do you feel about animal print? I like it sometimes.
What do you wash your face with? Some off brand facewash. I wasn’t paying attention when I bought it and realized after it was too late that it didn’t have any acne stuff in it, so I use a Stridex wipe at the end of the day.
Do you have sensitive teeth? I have sensitive gums.
Do you straighten your hair? Nope, I don’t need to. I have noticed it’s been getting a bit of a wave to it now, but I still don’t have the desire to straighten it.
Would you date someone you had a 16 year age gap with? Nope.
What is your sexuality? I need to have that shrug face like ready to go to be copied and pasted when this question comes up. I feel like I never explained it but honestly that shrug face pretty much sums it up. I’m attracted to everyone, but at this point in my life, I’m not going to act on it, because I know for a fact I want to be with Mark for the rest of my life, so part of me feels like, why define my sexuality? It’s not super crucial to who I am as a person.
Do you like Lana Del Rey? I love herrrrrrrr. When she first started getting popular, the internalized misogyny in me was like “lol a girl signing about video games?? What is she trying to be cute or something???” So I didn’t really give her a chance until I heard that remix of Summertime Sadness that was popular a few years ago, so then I looked up her actual music and fell in love.
Do you think suits are sexy? Sure. I’ve never seen Mark in an actual suit so I am really pumped to see him in a casual one on our wedding day.
Do you think earrings are attractive or unattractive on guys? They don’t really do anything for me, but they aren’t a turn off either.
Are you an old soul? Eh, I am a child.
Do you wear slippers? There are some next to my bed in the expectation that it’s freezing when I get up to go in the bathroom on our cold tile floor, but there’s a rug in front of the toilet so I haven’t really had to use them.
What are you doing tomorrow? Working. Going to the gym.
Do you sleep better during thunderstorms? Sometimes the thunder wakes me up, but I definitely feel more cozy when one is happening. I am super excited for warm storms!
Have you ever cheated on a boyfriend/girlfriend? No, but one of my exes might tell you otherwise because he’s insane.

Bill & Ted Face the Music Review
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Bill & Ted Face the Music review is spoiler-free. Excellent.
Both Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey reside in that unique cinematic grey area somewhere between blockbuster and cult classic. It’s a sweet spot that these characters — created by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who return to write this third outing — have inhabited for over thirty years, with the second movie hitting theaters way back in 1991. While the height of Bill & Ted-mania was in an era when grunge when was just getting warmed up (and thereby making the leads’ rock/metal-worship feel quaint), the films maintained a not-unsubstantial pop culture footprint that was eventually overshadowed by Keanu Reeves’ ascent into superstardom. To be clear though: Reeves never turned his back on Ted. Over the years he maintained a friendship with Alex Winter — it is beyond satisfying to know that Bill & Ted are close in real life — and regularly spoke about the possibilities of bringing Ted “Theodore” Logan back to the big screen.
Through a combination of Reeves’ clout and perseverance on the part of the cast and the creative team, a third Bill & Ted movie was crafted over the course of the decade. So, the major question going into Bill & Ted Face the Music is do these lovable dudes still have any appeal in 2020?
The answer to that query is, you guessed it, a most excellent one.
You see, Bill & Ted Face the Music is a bodacious conclusion to the story of these characters (albeit one that welcomely sets the stage for a passing of the torch to the next generation). More than that? It’s a sublimely crafted midlife crisis movie that touched me more than similarly themed works by Noah Baumbach ever could.
No, really. This movie is far more relatable than Marriage Story, even with all the time-displacement.
The film’s at times overly complex plot involves the future destroying itself because Bill and Ted have yet to write the song that Rufus (a much-missed George Carlin) told them would unite humanity. A quick info dump at the start of this movie addresses how after the most triumphant end of Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the pair and their Wyld Stallyns (which includes Death, again played here with scene-stealing glee by William Sadler) petered out following the success of their hit single “Those Who Rock.” In true Behind the Music fashion, breakups and lawsuits followed, and Wyld Stallyns were back to playing in their basements and Elks Lodge…forever searching for the song they are destined to write.
The fact that they continue to fail miserably at doing so gives the movie’s first fifteen minutes most of its comedic heft, until the plot begins to complicate itself, veering off into unexpected tangents. Rufus’ daughter Kelly (Kristen Schall of Bob’s Burgers and Flight of the Conchords fame) arrives from the future to tell Bill and Ted that their song needs to be written within hours unless not only will humanity be destroyed but the universe as well. (Time displacements are occurring throughout the world, resulting in Babe Ruth being transported back to the American revolution, among more chronological chaos). This discovery adds to the already tense marital relationships that Bill and Ted have with their wives Joanna (Jayma Mays) and Elizabeth (Erinn Hayes), the princesses they rescued back in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and whom are increasingly tired of their husbands acting like a unit instead of individuals.
This isn’t an issue that Bill and Ted’s daughters Thea (Samara Weaving) and Billie (Brigette Lundy Paine) have. Thea and Billie and devoted to their fathers entirely, offering them constant support as they write clunker after clunker. The characters are the breakout stars of Bill & Ted Face the Music, giving the film an emotional center for viewers to latch on to. Not to mention inspired casting, Weaving and Paine do an outstanding job of incorporating personality traits of Bill and Ted into their own performance in a master class in comedic subtlety.
And so begins a time-hopping adventure in which Bill and Ted, in true them style, attempt to steal the galaxy-saving song from future iterations of themselves. Among the Bill and Ted variations they encounter are imprisoned versions of themselves and elderly Bill and Teds whom are living together in a nursing home. (Maybe it’s just a byproduct of living in the uncertainty of 2020, but knowing that these two friends grow old together left me feeling profoundly moved). While Bill and Ted are squaring off against goofball future versions of themselves, their daughters borrow Kelly’s time machine to travel to the past to build a backing bad for their dads that includes Jimi Hendrix (DazMann Still), Louis Armstrong (Jeremiah Craft) and Kid Cudi, who portrays himself in an extended cameo that elicits huge laughs.
Perhaps the biggest problem with Bill & Ted Face the Music is that is might be a bit too ambitious for its own good. There are moments of inspired lunacy here, especially involving Dennis, a murderous robot from the future portrayed by Anthony Carrigan, that I which had more time to be explored. (The same can be said for Beck Bennett, Holland Taylor and Jillian Bell’s underutilized characters). But the lack of screen time for these actors combined with a truncated subplot involving Joanna and Elizabeth being transported through time by their own future selves indicates the the film might have been better served by a longer runtime than its tight 92 minutes. Fingers crossed for an extended Blu-ray edition.
The Bill & Ted films have always been way smarter than they were given credit for: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure subverted cliched teen comedy tropes, and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey was unafraid to get incredibly strange and existential. While not surprised by the flourishes of sadness in a movie that is, at its very core, a film about unfulfilled potential, I was surprised by how director Dean Parsiot (Galaxy Quest) allowed these moments to breathe amid all the comedy.
The third act brings all of our characters’ storylines together in a decidedly non-bogus way, and even manages to take a detour to hell, the exact context of which I dare not spoil here. It is all incredibly satisfying, made even more so by Winter and Reeves’ now-nuanced take on Bill and Ted. (Yes, they are both excellent). It would be a bummer, dude, to see the characters acting they same way they were when they were in high school. The new Bill and Ted have been through the ringer — haven’t we all — but the fact that they delivered another excellent adventure after all this time, and one that actually has impactful things to say about legacy and aging, is a major achievement. Bill & Ted Face the Music is a triumph of comedic storytelling that proves that you can’t party on forever, but you don’t have to abandon your dreams either.
