Well it depends on the au BC in the Tight Leash Loose Collar universe Max will be married to other alphas but the bond they share will forever remain eternal but it's true that Carlos' unhealthy mutual obsession with Charles will take center stage in his mind (but whether that can be considered true love is questionable on so many levels).

But in the emperor au Charles becomes empress over Max in a whole different way.

You see before Carlos takes the throne he is given three brides as is tradition: Teto and Marc are from his country, they both come from families with sworn loyalty to the throne, high ranking fathers and uncles in the military etc so Carlos has grown up together with them and knew them to be good friends as well as great wives to him, no drama whatsoever, and his father also knew they'd make his young heir comfortable when introducing him to his husband duties. But Carlos' third wife becomes his main wife instantly as his first political responsibility. And that is Max.

Max, despite still being very young, holds a great deal of power as the crown princess of the Dutch-Belgian empire and their marriage would create an unbreakable bond between their countries hence why his father makes sure Carlos knows exactly how important it is that Carlos remains decent with the omega he only meets days before their scheduled wedding. Max is a sweet pouty kitten of an omega, extremely feisty and very clearly not happy with the arranged marriage but Carlos still finds him utterly adorable and works hard to make Max trust him. Which he does very well, showing Max the sort of gentle appreciation he's been missing his entire life, and when they wed it feels like something out of genuine love.

It's actually funny how Marc and Teto tease them for being so smitten with each other as if they were just regular kids not the future ruling family lol sweet times of Max being a bratty but secretly painfully sweet omega and Carlos being the kindest funniest alpha who runs around the gardens with his omegas like they were all just childhood friends playing.

That is until the war hits.

A war in which Carlos' father successfully occupies Monaco and causes international controversy. Carlos fights on the frontline too and he spares the crown prince's life when his sword is pressed up against his throat, wanting to end the war in the most peaceful manner but his father has other plans. The declaration that the king of Monaco fell in battle spread far and wide upon Carlos' instructions who wanted to avoid the worse truth to spread which was an all out execution of the man, and he barely managed to save Lorenzo from the same fate. Carlos Sr's reputation worldwide becomes that of a dangerous and power hungry cruel tyrant and to save further war upon his head he decides to step down from the throne and bestow the crown to Carlos who may not be ready for the immense responsibility but he wants to help his father with damage control as much as he can.

Hence why he takes Princess Charles as his wife, to assure their nations he does not wish to destroy Monaco but to unify it with their empire and upon Charles' silver tongue guilt tripping the absolute soul out of him, when Carlos' coronation ceremony arrives, he has Charles by his side declared empress, the highest title in his harem.

Max's family is outraged of course, Jos has a full on tantrum in the strategy room after the ceremony. The empress title was meant to be held by Max, that was their deal upon marriage. Max understands the difficult situation Carlos is in however much it hurts to only be holding the second highest harem rank, he's seen the pain Carlos has gone through after he returned from the front caked in dried blood, all the sunshine from his eyes gone as if he was an entirely different person from the young man he used to laugh together with on the tulip fields that Carlos has gifted him to make him feel more at home. He knows Carlos has a heart of gold and he's not making this decision out of his own greed or lust but because he genuinely believes that's the only way peace is guaranteed.

But not within the harem, Max also can tell as much seeing the devious emerald glint in the beautiful bride's calculated gaze.

Max gets given the special privilege of a new deal in which he can be the ruling empress of the Dutch-Belgian empire on his own, essentially elevating him to the same level Carlos is holding making him a separate sovereign with his own government and power and that satisfies Jos well enough rather than if Max was just simply married out to be second to his husband, but Max worries because this way he will lose the duties Carlos' first rank wife holds, mainly over the harem. So in a way Max is both part of and not when it comes to Carlos' harem. Charles has responsibility over the harems management which is bound to cause nothing but trouble as soon as he takes his position and the first wave of concubines start coming in...

Saturday drives with Javier. That’s what you looked forward to when the weeks got hard. Without fail he took you somewhere more remote, just to enjoy the sun or the rain, and the breeze, and you.

Your chosen sundress draped lazily over your legs, the thin fabric giving a nice and somewhat unwanted layer between your bare thigh and his hand.

This one you work up to slipping yours over, you’d describe his hands as soft and calloused and large and warm all at once. In contrast to yours, always cold, shaky. You lean on the back of the old truck’s seat, staring at him, sun in the reflection of his aviators, other hand on the wheel, eyes on the road.

“Good again.” You respond. You love these drives…nothing is better than getting away. No work, no responsibilities, no problems. Just him.

“I like this dress.” He twisted the fabric between his fingers a little.

“I know you do.” You smiled watching the golden lighting of the sun beginning to set. “You wanna pull the truck over and show me just how much?” You tease, not honestly expecting him to…before you felt the turn, the swift sounds of his unbuckling seat belts and laying you down quickly.

“Sure.” He smiles politely, leaning over you and kissing you deeply, running a hand through your hair, as your leg wraps around him. That look in his eyes, might have been there the whole drive—craving you, waiting for that little invitation to touch.

The fabric of your dress pushed back with the movement, you weren’t sure how it’d escalated so quickly, but somehow you never knew till his lips were on yours, making you lose all those deep rooted senses. He seemed to paint down your jaw, down your neck, to your collarbone, till his name fell off your lips like an unwritten poem you never thought of.

Let's just say you both went on dates, the first date was awkward but it had a hint of sweetness along the way, nanami is a very gentle but sweet guy, at first you didn't think it would work but then he messaged you saying that you guys would schedule another date (bro you couldn't sleep that whole night)

He had sharp masculine features and he was so gentleman coded, he's regarded as the MOST gentleman in jjk

You guys ended up dating, who would've guessed?! it kinda took longer than most dates you've ever had (hardly about 6 months) but all the meets up and dates were worth it, nanami fell for you.

We al know he's a busy man, so strict with the time and HATES working overtime (mainly because he has a scheduled time of 1 or 2 hours with you since u guys haven't started living together)

After that problem, you guys started living together! so he could always come home with you cooking dinner for the both of you so he could sneak up and hold your waist while mumbling a soft "hey sweetheart" (he suggested the idea of living together since u always had trouble getting inside his apartment door)

You asked him once if he'd love you even if you were a worm, he ended up staring at you in disbelief and seriously asked "what do you mean, love?" and you couldn't help but burst out laughing bc of his confused face. At rare occasions he joins you whenever you're teasing him when he actually understands that you're joking or just either takes it seriously and his confused stare or gaze makes u laugh a lot

His favorite part about you is your smile, voice, and laugh (actually let's just say everything)

He's very protective towards you and he recently found out that you started working on a bakery café he always went to before he starts his day, nanami softly told you that you should stop working there because he'd be the one who's gonna take care the both of you financially.

You politely declined because you weren't working for money but to serve others and bring a smile to their faces even if it's just a simple coffee or a pastry given to him, he ended up agreeing and lets you be because he loves u so much and respects your decision when he heard you out. (he ended up going there everyday ordering a single piece of pastry each day which lasted ab 1-2 months)

When he ordered the last piece of pastry that had ever existed in that bakery café, you teased him saying "this will be the last pastry you'll ever order!" while you gave him a devious grin as he just smiled at you

The next day.. you didn't expect him to start ordering every drink in the shop each day.. (which lasted another month or so)

You eventually got fired because someone blamed you for spilling the drinks you were handing out to them and led to a big commotion throughout the place. You ended up crying the way home and when he saw you crying in your front doorstep, he immediately reached out for you and held you tight while whispering lovely things in your ears.

Let's just say he went to the bakery the next day and insisted to talk to the manager and talked it out that it wasn't your fault and defended you. (he won the argument and u guys ended up trying the new bakery next door and u started working there too <3)

Text messages are constant when he's overseas, he's also a very call guy rather than a text guy because he also likes hearing your voice bc it reassures him that you're still there for him (he reminds you everyday to eat and to do the things that you love)

He wont admit to the feeling of being jealous or upset, and its hard to let you know ab the way he feels bc of his poker face but the more you spend time with him, you realize the way his lips crack into a slight pout when he's sad or a slight curve when he's happy around you

He always has pictures of you on his phone whenever you guys go out, mostly picnic dates or just Paris dates yk yk?

He isn't very picky but he's very suggestive at things you wear (not in a way where he'll stop you w/ wearing what you want bc THAT MAN can fight for you) but he suggest things that look good better on you and you agree with him. He also respects you a lot as a person and he suggests in a calm and reassuring tone as he tries to understand when he doesn't, he's a very matured person and he knows how to be composed.

he loves walking at night time with you, or at bridges with just beautiful lights shining on you both while he puts his hand on your waist as you both look up at the street lights.

MORE Random West Wing Headcanons bc I said so

i’ve gotten back into the show recently (esp bc i understand all the politics and crap) and i feel the need to talk about my favorite dysfunctional political administration

in the first post i made, i said ainsley and sam dated for two years before breaking up. well that breakup didn’t last very long. a month later, they started dating again. from that point, on they never left each others side. they live in georgetown with a rottweiler and four kids.

after being really involved in solving a finance crisis, josh was invited to throw the first pitch at the Mets game. when the camera zoomed in on him, he was visibly emotional.

donna was over at josh’s apartment so much during his recovery period, they’ve begun to have weekly movie nights. they continue this tradition even after marriage and kids.

josh and donna’s house has a wall in the hallway of their house when you first enter that is covered with their kids’ handprints - at first, it was just their oldest being naughty but they let it grow into the Moss-Lyman art exhibit. even sam and ainsley’s kids, and toby and andy’s kids have added their prints to the wall

there’s a weekend every summer where all of senior staff and their families come up to Manchester and stay on the Bartlet Farm at Abbey’s insistence - she wears the title of “Grandma Abbey” proudly

at the inaugural ball (aka s4 josh & donna), josh and donna spend so much time together that a lot of the people there going to congratulate josh on getting bartlet’s second term mistake josh and donna for husband and wife - as a joke, donna and josh let people believe it

^^they end up getting quite the talking to from abbey - because she’s mad they didn’t tell her first (and cj, who has to field press questions the next day and they almost caused a domestic incident)

as an april fools day prank, zoey and charlie covered bartlet’s walls in the oval office with sticky notes - sam helped and wrote a “your mama” joke in latin as payback for bartlet having fun with the staff

josh has a terrible habit of biting the skin around his nails until they bleed - he doesn’t realize how bad it is until he turns some papers into the president with large drops of blood on them - donna keeps spare bandaids at her desk

toby likes to have a little fun with donna and say things to deliberately get a reaction out of her - some are truths, some are lies. one truth is that he likes beans on toast. donna called him clinically insane.

leo really likes musicals. can he sing? hardly ever. but on days he finds he needs to relax, he puts on the original cast recording of oklahoma and everything turns out okay

donna unofficially adopts a sickly kitten that lived in the trash near her apartment - she names it Brownie and nurses it back to health

^^Josh is allergic to Brownie but doesn’t say a word to Donna until after they’ve been married and had kids when they reach the age where they start asking for pets

Donna is sort of a multiple-threat kind of girl - she was an excitable kid so she grew up knowing how to do all kinds of things - these things are tap dance for seven years, karate for two years, horseback riding has been the only constant in her life, she can knit and sew, and she even speaks a little french - josh LOVES it when Donna speaks french

josh is always cold, he’s never run warm. donna knit a blanket for him as a birthday present. he’s never said anything but it’s one his favorite things in the whole world

donna actually likes hearing some of the president’s obscure historical tidbits - she even goes so far as to learning some of her own to exchange with him

toby visits the veteran’s grave that he buried every year and even talks to him a little while he’s there

it took a solid 20 minutes after donna had their first kid to let someone else hold him besides josh. the third person to hold their kid was bartlet.

^^^donna has never seen josh more in love than when he held their kid for the first time. cj took a photo of josh gazing at the little baby swaddled in blue clothing with visible tears streaking down his face. it’s one of donna’s favorite photos.

Sam is really good at hockey. He takes his kids to hockey games whenever he can.

Okay it seems like rlly unpopular opinion in this fandom. I mean I saw a lot of fics, hdcs and posts where leroux!Erik is bi, pan or straighty and always very like VERY horny and very into all that stuff

but

BUT

I'll duplicate some of the thoughts that I wrote earlier. I personally see leroux!Erik as 1000% asexual because c’mon. This man is afraid of touching esp touching women. For him the biggest joy was INNOCENT KISS on the forehead. And judging by his wishes about his marriage where all he does is going for walkies while holding hands, singing and showing magic tricks is….. you know….. This speaks volumes. I bet he doesn't even think about other more physical aspects, for him it is just a fluffy romantic fantasy (and he's prob read hell of a lot snotty romantic novels while kicking his legs and screaming in pillow). He seeks romantic love and he wants to be loved and accepted as he is, but I see it as purely platonic feelings, not physical. And honestly how he treats Christine and calls her my angel, my saviour and all that stuff????? He idealises her to the core and sees her almost like a divine being - pure and kind. Do you really think that he would project his fantasies on her????? (but I highly doubt that he even has them and I see him as a castrato but its a whole different topic for another day) Do you think he would even allow himself to do that???? I bet he would just roll on the floor like sopping wet cat and scream that he's not allowed to touch this pure being with his disgusting cadaverous hands. Erik was SHOCKED that someone WILLINGLY touched him without running away, showed him compassion and understanding even despite his abuse and threats. All that because he thought he didn't deserve it, that he is so ugly that he can't be treated like a normal human being.

Also about that marriage stuff. I think Erik didn't desire the marriage as most ppl do. For him its just a way to prove that he is like everyone else because wakie wakie, it is a 19th century's heteronormative society where if you are single and were never married at almost 50 years old, then something is deeply wrong with you. Erik didn't want to marry in a first place - for him it's just an instrument to fit in in a strict society that rejected him. Honestly its sooooo autistic coded for me (I'm autistic btw). Dude just went too hard in attempt to fit in but failed miserably. Another thing for me that strikes is that the marriage for Erik could be seen as a guarantee that the person he loves will never leave him (bc divorces at that time were an awfully difficult procedure, you know). He was so insecure about himself, scared to death that he would be abandoned, betrayed, and rejected again and then boom, there's a guarantee drop, a wonderful idea that everyone praised and romanticised in all books. Marriage. You don't have to handcuff anyone to the battery and cry on the floor praying not to leave you because the law will do it for you. I think you see where I'm going. I also have high suspicions where's Erik really felt love or he was so lonely and depressed at that point of his life that he accepted an ordinary friendship and politeness as a pure and beautiful love to the grave (literally) and the only chance for happiness. When Christine didn't suspect a thing, he already drew in his diary himself walking with her in the park and framing it with hearts while lying on the bed like a schoolgirl. Again very autistic trait that I've noticed in myself. To think that you are a genius and have thought everything 10 steps ahead, that the person will act according to your plan and that the regular good word (said purely out of politeness by the person who is not interested in you) is the beginning of a great unbreakable friendship for the ages. If you know you know. I rlly see it as Erik imagined himself castles in the air and saw his deep desire for friendship and acceptance as true love. Because all pll are saying that love is great so it 100% must be it, right? ...........................right? The problem with interpreting your true emotions and feelings are unironically hard. Phew, okay. What I'm trying to say is that I see leroux!Erik as an asexual autistic individual. I don't say that it's canon and theres the only way to view this character because what I say is based not only on my unbiased analysis but also on my neurodivergent experience and kinda similar life problems (but much, MUCH LESS serious and with access to therapy and treatment). - parents are never home — I imagine his dad his some big shot lawyer and his mom is a nurse at the Oklahoma general hospital in the city, they wire him money and only come home for major holidays (basically only married because they never see eachother and like they don’t dislike eachother and getting a divorce would be a lot of paperwork but they both definitely have side pieces

- kinda loves it bc he has a house to himself but also hates it — used to really hate it when he was little but he distracted himself by taking care of cherry and having her practically live with him

- kind man but overworked and hates his life kinda but loves his kids — sergei basically lives at Melvin’s and both parents like that kid so it’s chill

- kinda on the lower class of socs (not super rich like bobs fam) but still socy enough — parents just live their lives, they don’t party or drink or gamble they just exist within their house and go to work

- smilar to book cherry obvi — dad that drinks and mom that is emotionally closed off and emotionally abused by her dad

- her dad yells a lot and they argue but it’s over trivial things and anything can set her dad off — she feels like she’s walking on eggshells a lot (is sympathetic towards her mother bc she truly is a victim but also not ?? It’s all very confusing for cherry and hurts her head)

- she doesn’t know if her dad is physically abusive because she’s never home and if he does hit her mother he never does it in front of her (she knows mother would never tell her if she was being hit) (he claims he has never hit her mother — (but also claims to cherry that “I should’ve hit you more and maybe you’d be better” and “my parents hit me and I’m fine!” (He’s not fine but he doesn’t see that obviously) (paul wanted to kill her dad when Cherry told him that the one night… she was laughing about it like she didn’t just say something so heartbreaking (it’s how she copes)

- similar to Marcia’s parents, they don’t talk — there’s no reason to she tried to force a connection between them and her but as she got older she realizes it will never happen

- finds comfort in her found family and loves them how she knows her parents should’ve loved her like that — she shouldn’t have to find that comfort in others (or in brills parents ): — she’s grateful for the brillsteins)

Chet:

- youngest child + youngest soc (has siblings but they are all 10+ years older with their own lives + doesn’t rlly know them) chet yearns for community and a sibling bond and friends (finds that with marcia + paul + cherry + ponys hang)

- chet being jealous of soda bc his parents were so fucking good when they were alive — feels bad bc he knows soda is mourning and he loves the boy and he feels all dirty for being jealous about that

I have LOOOTS of hcs for the both of them!! Ive been fixated on these two for four whole years i genuinely have too much to mention in one post lol so if you have any specific questions about specific hcs, do tell me!! Its a bit difficult to answer very broad questions like this bcs i dont know where to begin haha;;

I can very confidently say though, Illumi is absolutely nowhere near shy. At least-- not by the definition. In my eyes, Illumi is a very blunt and straightforward person with no social filter. I do like to think when it comes to hisoillu in general Illumi gets flustered here and there when dealing with his husband like any normal human in love is to be. But when it comes to being an actual shy introvert like hisoka-- absolutely not. You can tell the difference between how Illumi deals with people vs Hisoka. Hisoka is like the textbook definition of an introvert-- someone who constantly avoids people unless he wants to be the center of attention (mainly negative attention so it keeps people away anyways)

General hisoillu hcs would be... I like to humanize them. I like giving Illumi moles, stretch marks and arthritis from his transformation and eyebags from the amount of times he stays up for his missions. Also scars from his training that are faded. For hobbies I like to think hes extremely interested in learning. Just learning. Whatever hes learning doesnt matter, but knowledge is a very prominent fact about him and the zoldycks in general. So while I hc hes extensively knowledgable about anatomy and the economic and political states of the world (those pretty much canon tho lol) and the world in general, I like to always write him extending his knowledge in fics like learning a new language in his spare time or reading books in general. I could expand much more on hobbies including people watching and hanging out with his siblings but i feel like if there is a tumblr word limit i would 1000% exceed it lol.

I like to give Hisoka freckles on his tan skin (in the manga his skin is quite tan) that he hides and many more scars that are also hidden like he'd hide his arm scars after machi healed them. also the one time togashi drew him with hip dips. I liked that! I like to give him a human backstory like initially having a family that he either abandoned or was abandoned by to go on his own journey (not necessarily tragic, though i do not think tragic backstories take away from a character no matter how evil tbh. If anything, I strongly believe that babies are blank slates when it comes to morals until theyre taught otherwise by their environment.) And positive hobbies like cooking for himself because he only ever relies on himself and doesnt trust anybody else, which also goes with the hc of him not being a fan of taking any medication so hes a "tough it out" girlie. which also consequently affects other hcs like my trans hisoka hc and him not getting top surgery until after he married illumi because he does not trust a mf to put him under during it but he does trust illumi-- ITS A LOOONG STORY

I also like to consider their reoccurring personality traits as symptoms for neurodivergence. Like Illumi's bluntness and overly honest personality being autism and his highly emotional sides to him being BPD (i do have a thread on that!) and for Hisoka his hyperactivity and addiction for stimulating fights as ADHD (the adhd video i made abt him covers some of it lol) and you could argue a personality disorder for him as well to match with his hubby.

Also the queer hcs like i mentioned, transmasc genderfluid hisoka that doesnt mind all pronouns that i also hc as demiaroace and pansexual/bisexual while for Illumi I hc him as gay demiaroace agender, etc. These help a lot in figuring out their identities too.

Stuff like that are just the "layouts" for them in my brain that help me immensely when writing fics for them. You have to know everything extensively for the actions that they make to come naturally so when you throw them in a situation, you immediately know how they'd react (ex: sick hisoka would refuse to take meds, or more specifically like in my fic tolerate me darling hisoka was cramping and refused to take pain meds for it so illumi had to use his pins etc etc)

Those are pretty much the surface hcs i have for them that I always consider when it comes to any scenario or extra hc or fic/art or anything. For anything very specific, you'd have to ask about it for my brain to remember ehehe ^^

Little bit of me taking the piss out of Gacha "variants"... Youtube is filled with them. If you know, you know. Finding canon designs is a blessing in Gacha, I swear, people will be making the characters so far from canon that it's mad. I used Gacha... club? The one people tend to use for Gacha reaction vids (as an example). Specifically to prove my point that it is possible to make the characters relatively close to their canon appearance without the use of Gacha life 2. Admittedly, I did have a little bit of fun making the "Gacha fan" variant, but I see it as a character making a highly accessorised cosplay of Mr Compress. I am not against headcanons, not at all! i'm a sansa stan first and foremost, and i tried to ship s@nsan so hard lmaooo but when they start saying shit like "sansa has wet dreams about the hound" and "sansa actually likes older men", argh, i just can't. do. that. i know george said something about playing with it in the books, but i also think that he wanted to raise a few questions with the relationship, one of them being "who protects sansa from her protector?". like, there's TRAUMA in there. it's funny that they accuse jonsas of using sansa as a self-insert bc i don't know if you ever read a s@nsan fic or saw the fanarts, but they REALLY wanna bang that man 😭

Nothing in the fandom horrifies me as much as Sansan. I’ve had nice Sansans come into my inbox, so I do distinguish between my feelings about the ship and the shippers, but I hate the reinterpretation of the Hound because it minimizes what he did/tried to do to Sansa. Instead of the later scenes where Sansa thinks of him being about her processing the trauma of his assault, suddenly, they become a gross villain whitewashing, victim-blamey, “actually, she wanted it.”

I once even highlighted that whole "who will protect us from the guards" idea you mention because I think it was meant to emphasize what a travesty the Hound’s assault was:

This isn’t a romance, this is a pattern. The Hound saves her than tries to rape her, Tyrion is kind to her then agrees to marry her, a child, a prisoner of his family, and LF rescues her but then starts to sexually molest her. All the same, in each of these instances, Sansa is grateful, she thinks kindly of them, and I think that says a lot about Sansa that you completely miss if you romanticize it and pretend that the Hound is someone, something to her, that he isn’t. I also talk about the whole cloak thing in that post too because I think the more contextualized reading is the one we’re meant to adopt.

When I did take a look at the meta, I was so creeped out by the nature of it and the art. Although, I want to give credit where it’s due. Apparently they were some of the first people to start taking Sansa seriously and created the reading of Sansa becoming a political factor, so they did change the fandom’s perception of Sansa in a good way. But imo their love of the Hound causes an imbalance in how they read their scenes. The point isn't that the Hound wouldn't have hurt Sansa, the point was that he very well might have but Sansa's actions stopped him which ties into a much bigger idea and important aspect of Sansa's story:

Even after the Hound assaults Sansa, later, she thinks of how terrifying the fire was, as in, even then, she is able to empathize with him, the man who held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her. It’s laughable to suggest a man who mocked her relentlessly for who she was is capable of the same consideration. In fact, it is in a state of terror that the Hound attempts to rape Sansa and his fans use that to excuse his actions, and yet, while he is assaulting her, Sansa sings of mercy, gently touches his cheek. It’s almost like the very obvious interpretation, that the way to create a better world is Sansa’s method— not his— is what Martin expected people to understand, and his surprise people have turned it into something else altogether is genuine. As for Martin admitting he "played" with it, here's a clip. It's very short, and he's expressing surprise that his female readers like villains of which the Hound is one, and I think you can tell by his facial expression that the idea of the Hound and Sansa as a couple, is absolutely not where he ever intended to take things, not what he meant when he said he played with it. There are countless old monster movies with the monster being fascinated with a young girl or beautiful woman which humanizes him/shows a soft side. That's similar to Beauty and the Beast, the girl is what allows the monster to become human again, but in these variations, it isn't a romance. You can play with/reference tropes and ideas without it actually being a direct reiteration of the original story.

I might be wrong but wasn't it LW that named Daphne a diamond of the first water, bc the Queen said she was flawless? Therefore launching her as the most desired woman in the ton. And starting the whole a "diamond" needs to be named? Then I've always thought in season 2 LW timed her edition to come out as Eloise is presented, specifically to interrupt the proceedings because she knew Eloise was uncomfortable. And the Queen would be completely distracted sometime before Eloise had to go through. Could be wrong but with LW I'm reminded of the song "one night in Bangkok" bc of the line "thank God I'm only watching the game, controlling it." I love when Violet finds the tea on Lord B, and says "we'll talk" bc it's what women do. A flurry of gossip later It saved Daphne from a horrible fate of a loveless marriage to that gross man (he used his status to get a servant of his pregnant and then abandons her and the child. Was this servant girl allowed to even say no to her employer with power? To preserve her innocence/reputation). It seems as if it's the only way a woman could influence her life or make a change.

Also Pen often sets the rumors straight, when others go too far in their speculation and it could blow up as something else entirely. The ton trusts LW's word bc she didn't lie. If she hadn't said what she'd said about Eloise it could have been worse. It softened the social blow, it was merely a smaller transgression though, not as bad as her and her whole family ruined which if it had been exposed elsewhere it would have. The men would have been fine but the the others prospects of marriage would have been damaged or non existent. Same with Marina, the Featherington's had to be socially distanced from even knowing what she was up to, or they would be ruined. It wasn't that she was cruel to Marina, to me, but loves her sisters enough to save them from what Marina did (I can understand her motives, but her cruelty towards Pen and callous way she marked Colin as an easy target upset me). My favorite real life example of how people gossip that could be good, is Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. Married at 17 in the 1770s, to "the only man in England not in love with his wife" and she was the main Whig party hostess, meetings, parties, and she even canvassed for votes. Parlor room behind the scenes politics. But the downside to gossip is that opposing sides will try to defame through gossip too, and caricature depicting the Duchess as an indecent woman who'd kiss men for votes in order to get Fox elected. That's a very quick overview of an amazing, yet flawed woman (her gambling). But it demonstrates for me at a time when women had very few rights, if you were in a higher social class, through gossip you can start change. Georgiana, as a Whig hostess, as a fashion icon of her time, a woman with the "common touch" very popular with the people, even though she was "her Grace" helped gain traction for her causes, wider rights, abolition and supported American colonial independence during the war. Whether it's a bigger or smaller issue, gossip can be both good and bad. The only time I really dislike it is when it's used to just purposely hurt others, instead of informing or questioning social outdated norms, its just a personal attack designed to hurt someone cruelly (Cressida making remarks about how many children Violet had and what that meant about her and her family...ooo I was not ok with Cressida there or her mama lol) .

I think Pen is sometimes judged too harshly, she'd been ridiculed and ignored in a society that already didn't value her as much as a man. Her future prospects to Her seemed dim, bc all Her life..... words like what Marina said, have been said to Her. Her worth was her family's good name and who she married, how much money they had. So she took some control and power for herself in the only way she could. Through gossip. Sorry I've rambled so long! This is an interesting topic though. 😊

I think I'm going to rewatch season specially because of this topic. I want to do an analysis about the nature of gossip and how affect the characters. Maybe more of one part because I think it's going to be long.

I think gossip has a force and doesn't need to be bad. It's neutral and it can show the real nature of the person who's using it. And like you said, Pen never lies. She says the truth, sometimes she even gave proof and her intentions were always good. She does it because nobody else want to see it. Nobody wants to listen the truth, she tried, and nobody was listening to her.

Colin never wanted to see Marina didn't loved him, because he didn't care, because he didn't loved her either. He was lying to himself. Eloise didn't want to see why Pen wrote about her, because she didn't wanted to accept Pen advertised about it many times, and she didn't listen. Daphne and Violet were practically saved by her, the marriage for Daphne, the Violet's reputation. We have so many moments of her helping them.

Gossip is a tool. A tool used women without any other weapon to protect themselves. I think it's a relationship between the female aspect of it and why society sees it like something wrong. Because words can hurt, and yes, they can be used to shame, and make damage, but gossip is a the weapon of the people who's not going to be heard otherwise.

Seconding that last ask about pretending that gendies' straight relationships are gay ughhh one of my best friends is non binary and getting more aggressive about it lately (meaning that i have to bend over backwards every two seconds to use the correct pronouns, since our language literally doesnt have a neutral one) and i have to hear her rants about how MUCH she hates her disgusting female body and how shes different from a woman bc she doesnt align with feminity and that all her boyfriends have been actually gay for dating her AND pretend 1) that i dont take all that harmful discourse regarding being a woman at heart and 2) that i dont hurt from seeing her like this because i really love her. oh my goddd the whole thing with nonbinary women and the fixation on the men they sleep with being gay because gender... it's crazy, the desire to control the sexual orientations of others seems like a pattern in the trans community, although obviously some are worse than others. I mean it matches the fixation on controlling how others perceive them in their private minds, ie. "we can tell when you're just using our pronouns to be polite and you don't actually SEE us as our stated gender" like anyone's private thoughts are your business? Controlling what we can say out loud isn't enough?

(Kind of a tangent: but a while ago I remember jeffrey marsh making a video with his male partner ((idr if they're married)), talking about how when jeffrey's identity changed from man to nonbinary, the partner's had as well, because he wasn't identifying as gay anymore. He had always perceived himself to be gay, it was a big part of his identity through his life, but he loves Jeffrey, and Jeffrey is no longer a man, and gay men love men, therefore he can't be gay. Anyway, I feel your pain, the thing with the pronouns I can't even imagine. The pure narcissism of complicating the simple act of speaking for everyone around you, making sure everyone expends a little extra brain power when talking to or about you... simply because you say so! Boggling.

Unfortunately, as I said on the last ask, not much you can do. It is very very hard to convince someone so entrenched in it to hear you out, and obviously you don't want to lose her, there's no great solution. The best thing you can do is to be there for her if and when she comes around to reality. It might be good if you guys could do some kind of activities together that have nothing to do with gender shit, ideally outdoors. The less time spent scrolling and ruminating, the better. A) The one where wwx explodes a wen’s head because they were going to kill lwj. I remember wwx being injured in this fic and constantly in bed save for sitting at the table working on wards and talismans. He made talismans for lwj to use while he was away fighting. I remember jzx helping wwx change his bandages and helping him to the battle field because he couldn’t walk well. On the battle field wwx sees lwj about to be killed by a wen and makes the wen’s head explode. I think lwj in that scene chose his last view to be the sky instead of his killer’s face but he instead got covered in blood and brain matter. All this takes place in cloud recesses btw.

B) The one where wwx is immortal (i think) and lwj lives in the burial mounds with him and the wen remnants. I’m not sure how they get to this point but they travel to Qinghe to ask for his help with something I think but wwx ends up sending nmj is dying and helps him too. I remember more or less the conversation when wwx met nmj went like “huh this is a bit awkward. Sorry to ask but you DO know you’re dying right?” And nmj responds something like “yes, I’m aware.”

love cc’s books but the most unrealistic part is her having not a single character hate being a shadowhunter like?? imagine you live in a whole ass society and you can’t partake in certain roles because you never received proper education and the option to leave this life of demon killing… give me a character that wants to build rockets! give me a character than wants to open a restaurant! give me a character that wants to be a singer! i want a character that despises their parents and the government for being forced in this life (and then maybe learns to love it? because then us, as an audience, would really see why it’s worth it)

i have a theory that twp might end with the shadowhunter word being more integrated into the normal mundane world. kids attending public school and receiving training after school and during summers, etc etc

while i totally see where you're coming from, i do have a counter point: jessamine.

girl hated the life and the world she was born into so much that she married the first mundane man who promised her a way out. and a big reason for her strong aversion to shadowhunting too is because it was a life her parents didn't want for her, didn't want for themselves. the only reason she was as involved as she was is because of the established procedure for orphans in shadowhunter society.

additionally, we have jem, who upon returning to mortality decides that he cannot live as a shadowhunter without will.

i've thought about this a decent amount before actually. i think the distinction between nephilim and shadowhunter is that one is a race and one is a profession. being a shadowhunter is expected and is overwhelmingly the norm, which is why it tends to be used interchangeably with the term nephilim, but i don't think it is necessarily the end all be all (even if it is their heavenly mandate as a race)

that said tho!! you are very very right about the extent to which the shadowhunter upbringing prepares little nephilim for the mundane world, which is to say, uh.. barely. and this makes it incredibly difficult to breach that barrier, explore other aspects of life, and actually make it on your own out there, especially if you are connected to an institute. which is one of the reasons we see jessie struggling so much in tid.

i think something that's special about tlh is that (maybe because demon activity in london is pretty chill leading up to the series), the characters seemed much more inclined toward certain mundane pursuits. christopher may not have built rockets, but he did know how to blow things up. lucie has the time to write novels. matthew is very up to date on mundane culture, and folds into it easily. shadowhunting responsibilities didn't take any opportunities away from them and their individual explorations of the world.

however, if we put jessie, who had no real aspirations but hated shadowhunting, and matthew, who has plenty of aspirations but still holds onto his shadowhunter identity, on a scale.. we see that there is a middle piece missing, which is the one you described--someone who hates shadowhunting and has outside aspirations. and boy oh boy do i think that would be such an interesting character. especially the way you described it!!

i think in the same vein of children of shadowhunters who left to marry a mundane finding themselves pulled back into the world, it would be really interesting to see children of ascended shadowhunters kinda being enticed by the mundane. ofc shadowhunter blood rings true and all that but i can see there being a sort of romanticization of this world they live in but not of, that their parent(s) got to experience fully and yet all they know of it is how to protect it..

which rounds itself back to your last point so well! because really they should know more about the people and the world they are called to protect. and i think if shadowhunter society kinda becomes dismantled and decentralized (bc lbr something seriously drastic has to change politically).. it really only makes sense. also it's much nicer of an ending than um.. all shadowhunters losing their role completely. not to make a pjo reference, but i feel like it would almost be like switching from everyone being year-rounders at camp half-blood to those who just come for the summer. it would be interesting to see what causes that sort of change, if the threat of demons becomes neutralized enough for them to function in that way. it would also be interesting to see just how much more can be accomplished in terms of art and science when the nephilim aren't so restricted to training and battle and death.

The slowest slow burn. They are both autism creatures. I can completely see them bonding over their special interests bc if you think about it, archeologists and psychologists both study people. Just imagine them infordumping to each other on coffee dates in the Log Cabin Café or discussing the implications of newly discovered artifacts in the museum after hours. They are basically married before either one works up the nerve to ask the other on a date. The whole valley quietly ships it.

Shiro (RSV) x Harvey

Hear me out: Former paratrooper in recovery being treated by a doctor who wanted to be a pilot? There is no way they didn't talk about planes and Shiro's experiences. Shiro probably enjoyed that someone was talking to him about his interests instead of his injuries, it likely made him feel *normal again for awhile. I can just picture the moment when Harvey shows Shiro his radio equipment when he's well enough to go up the stairs, it's a big moment for them both for many reasons 🥺 Also, the added drama of having a crush on your doctor/patient...

*I'm not saying Shiro isn't normal, he has in game dialogue expressing he doesn't feel normal bc of his injuries. As a person with mobility issues myself I understand that mindset and how hard it is not to feel that way.

So marry me again" like, he gets her lmao). I like picturing them as college friends/girlfriends, but nothing in canon even suggests that. But they're both women in politics with a lot faith in the world and their ability and duty to improve it, and because CJ loses a lot of that faith after the hell she goes through as Chief of Staff, I really just want her to find some peace and genuine cause for optimism in Andy Wyatt and two stepkids when it's all over.

2. CJ/Danny

The amount of times I talk about writing fics where they get a divorce or don't get together at all should never be taken to mean that I don't actually love this pairing with my whole heart. I like writing her with women bc I'm a lesbian and there's not a lot of options in this show, but Danny truly deserves the world and I really am very happy for them every time they figure it out in season 7. It comes back to the peace thing, really; he just so wholeheartedly accepts and gets her, and that's exactly what she deserves imo. She doesn't make it easy on him, never has, and he knows exactly what he's getting into, and I love that that never makes him change his mind about her. He loves that woman SO much, and it takes her a while to acknowledge it, but she loves him SO much, too. The banter, the faith, the devotion and mutual respect, it's just so good. I love them.

3. CJ/Carol

We're back to non-canon femslash. Though for this one, I actually love Carol with an unrequited crush almost as much as I love an actual relationship or hook-up. And in the context of CJ/Danny (though really also CJ/Andy), I think Carol is someone who has it in her to be genuinely happy watching CJ enter a successful relationship with someone that's not her. I think CJ made her head spin with her "get on the couch, I'm gonna do you right now" comment. I think Carol admires her so much. I think they could be so happy if they chose to be in a post-administration world. Which really again comes down to just wanting to see her happy and loved by someone who truly sees all of her. She went through a lot! She deserves it.

4. CJ/Simon

While I am of the opinion that if he had lived, their relationship probably wouldn't have lasted forever, I think what we got was just so tragically beautiful and fix-it AU's are so fun, that I can't not include this one. Their banter was so good, they had such great chemistry, her SMILE after that first and only kiss was to die for, and the heartbreak of watching her react to his death? One of the best scenes. I also think that the tragedy of CJ/Simon really just influences and improves all of the above relationships. The grief and pain she carries from that into the next relationship she'll get into?? Kill me already.

5. CJ/Amy

Now I'll admit that this is partially on here bc I'm writing a fic as we speak. But I like the chaotic and sexy nature this could have. Amy as a character is just dear to me because I think her character suffers immensely from how the show writes about feminist causes (I've said before that the thing that grates me about CJ's writing in Women of Qumar is really the basis of Amy Gardner's entire character), and I want better for her. Personally, I think a big step would've been to not make her an extension of Josh's character arc for the most part. I also just am biased and think she would've worked ten times better as a mean lesbian character. And I think she and CJ could've had a good time hooking up (for example if you say both their previous Emily's List jobs were around the same time) and being mad at the world and the administration's inaction together. I don't see them as anything long-term, but casual exes? casual hook-ups? they can have a fling.

Leo McGarry

This man has so much on his plate and so much going on it's a miracle he didn't have the first heart attack in season 3. But seriously, I love just... he's a cranky old man who loves his staff so much. He's harsh on them, he doesn't beat around the bush when they fuck up, but he has their back and he always looks out for them. I also love that he is both such a chauvinist at times while also having CJ's back so so well especially in season 6? I love that duality, it feels real, it works out, it's fun to watch. He's gone through so much in his life and has dedicated most of it to bettering the world and we just love that for him.

2. Andrea Wyatt

They showed me a beautiful sassy redhead whose very first line is "it's a beautiful day" looking out over a completely grey sky before she pushes the administration to actually talk about racism when they talk about drug sentencing, and her very last act in the show is requesting a pardon for her ex husband when no one else even wants to dare bring that up out loud. How am I not supposed to fall in love with that? But seriously, she's a small character in the show but she's such a presence. She's stubborn and fiery and has such an unwavering faith in the world as a whole and her own ability to improve it that shines through with her persistency trying to have her children, bringing pie to her government meetings, and huge foreign policy undertakings (there are so many faults in the Israel/Palestine storyline. so many. but I love that she fully believes it can happen, and one way or another that trip made it happen in the show). There's just a very strong will there and all that genuine belief that the world is good and can be better and she will play her part in it. I love that.

3. Josh Lyman

Impulsive little asshole of a man with the goofiest smile and such love for those around him. Love him to death. I love how unhealthily dedicated he is to his job, I love seeing his ego get the better of him sometimes. I think he deserves a smack over the head every now and and then and I say that with so much love. He is funny and sweet and an ass and just steeped in tragedy and I love that kind of character; he both doesn't let his grief and trauma impact everything around him, while it remains so obvious that so much of he is is rooted in it. That duality can be hard to pin down and Josh just !! scratches the itch. He's never truly going to move past the survivor's guilt of the fire and that breaks my heart and makes me love him so damn much.

4. Carol Fitzpatrick

I was considering making her an honourable mention because lbr there's not much for her character wise outside of being CJ's constant support. But fuck it, we love a minor character. Carol's hilarious and I love her constant presence in CJ's office. her "we're fixing the H!" in season one is gorgeous, the look she gives Josh and later Toby when they brief and screw up is gorgeous. She's the one CJ calls when she needs a getaway car after breaking the cat statue, and the one CJ calls when she can't figure out if the song "too sexy" is about a serious problem someone has. And Carol takes it all in stride. She's loyal, funny, clever, and can't spell, and I love that for her. I also firmly believe that it's Carol and a few interns who keep Gail's fishbowl decorated day in day out, and she has a damn blast doing that.

5. (.6?) Jed Bartlet/Toby Ziegler

This is why I was considering making Carol an honorary character. But no. So I'll combine them and try to keep that somewhat brief.

But it kinds fits to put these two together, honestly. Cause I love them both for their clashing/complimentary/contrasting at different points huge senses of morality, and just that extreme dedication to what they believe is right, and especially the sacrifices they make for that and then ultimately the way it clashes between them sometimes when really for the most part they're so appreciative of those qualities in each other. Two flawed yet loving fathers fighting to make the world a better place for their kids while that almost necessarily places their kids in not quite the first priority they say they are. The immense personal sacrifices they make in the form of spending the last few years he's healthy in the White House to continue trying to improve the world and voluntarily giving up his freedom and his career to save the lives of three people he'll never meet?? That's the shit right there. That dedication to the job and the cause in two otherwise kinda difficult to work with people is just so damn good, and especially when they're doing it together (whether that's in a complimentary fashion or because they're fighting) it's just such a sight

Been trying to make up some headcanons for my Grey Warden Rook, Faith Theirin Thorne and here's what I've come up w so far

- She gets ocular migraines bc I must share my suffering. Her trigger is also not eating enough and she also decides to try and ignore it to her detriment.

- Twin with her brother Duncan. They are insufferable together

- I honestly think Faith is very like Alistair while Duncan is very like Elena (Cousland). Faith is sweet, jokey, and loves to learn (a trait people often forget Alistair has) while Duncan is a fantastic politician and tactician but often has too much pride for his own good and thinks he's above others sometimes (he inherited the awkward joke flirting though). They balance each other out

- Leliana made sure mages can inherit seats of nobility after she became Divine, but Faith actively went to the Grey Wardens to avoid all that political shit (along with wanting to help people in a direct way). She's appreciative of the opportunities other mages can have now though

- Faith knew she hated politics and being in court when she was 6. A boy came up to her and said "My father says I need to be nice to you so we can marry and my family will be rich."

- Her magic style is just. So weird. She developed her magic right when DAI ended, so instead of being trained at the Circle, she got trained briefly by the College of Enchanters right when it started, then Fiona herself (very weird family reunion), and then Morrigan with Kieran (very weird family reunion). So, she knows very basic Circle magic and also the insane magic that Morrigan knows and it really shows when she fights. Someone fights her and it's just "fire spell, fire spell, ice spell, DEATH NECROMANCY DEATH SPIDERS HORRORS BEYOND COMPREHENSION"

- This is more about Alistair, but after he realizes that his daughter is a mage, he feels even worse about being a dick to the rebel mages in DAI.

- Her and Kieran? Best friends. Practically siblings (ha). Kieran's the prettier of the two.

Complete Sidenote: Just learned that Kieran was the one who picked Morrigan's dress in DAI, that's so fucking cute

- Not a lot of Grey Wardens keep in contact with their past life, but Faith makes a point to write to her family and friends as often as she can. She often addresses them with an alias so people don't know she's related to them if they read her letters (ex. she refers to Duncan as Bryce, his middle name, in her letters)

- Sometimes Kieran visited Faith in Weisshaupt via crow form so Faith looked very Disney Princess/crazy talking to a bird like an old friend

- Became friends with Evka first but her and Antoine get along great bc of their mutual sensitivity to blight magic and interest in experimentation

- Alistair's the one who came up with Faith's fake last name Thorne. Her middle name is Rose. He thought he was very funny

- She's best friends with Harding and Bellara. Harding bc she's been with her the longest (and also MAYHEM) and Bellara bc she reminds her of Kieran and Morrigan and Antoine and Faith really just loves the mad scientist lore hunters huh?

- Faith knew Varric before the whole Grey Warden mission thing since Varric and Alistair knew each other. She thought of him as a really fun uncle

- You cannot faze Faith easily. She's seen too much weird shit in her life. She's a Grey Warden. Her aunts include The Witch of the Wilds and the Divine and her uncles include The Arishok and an ex-Crow assassin who tried to murder and flirt with her parents. The best you can get out of her is a "well this might as well happen" under her breath

- Says 'tis sometimes. Morrigan's influence

- Isn't afraid to show some skin. Also Morrigan's influence

- Definitely accidentally said "Aunt Morrigan???" When she showed up in Veilguard. She did so well at hiding her identity for years, but admitting you personally know Morrigan really clued Neve into who she was. She promised not to tell anyone and they grew real close cause of the whole "people trying to use me for political influence at an early age" thing

- I have this stupid little headcanon that my Warden stole Andraste's ashes after the events of DAO and started secretly giving it to Alistair and herself to try and cure their taint and when Faith decides to become a Warden, Elena convinces her that before the Joining, you need to consume the ashes of "Fallen Wardens" (trying to make sure Faith doesn't die) so Faith did that. She eventually found out that wasn't normal, asked her mom about it, and her mom refuses to explain herself

- Speaking of Elena refusing to explain herself, when Faith found out that Grey Wardens are supposed to die after killing an Archdemon, she got very fucking confused and asked her parents about it. Elena was just like "Oh the Maker didn't want us to die". Alistair doesn't like keeping secrets, so his face when Elena said that really let Faith know something was up. I think Faith asked Alistair what was up in private and imma be honest, I'm not sure what he'd say.

- Faith has never brought a boy home, so Davrin is in for a shit ton of shovel talks from literally every powerful person from Ferelden to Par Vollen

- Kieran's probably the first one to be nice to Davrin and Elena a bit after when Morrigan gives her the thumbs up, she's still watching him though

- I can't really see Davrin and Faith having kids besides adoption (and they already have Assan), so I think they travel a lot, help the Grey Wardens when they can, and when Faith is feeling homesick, she'll use the Eluvians to go see her family
