The worst trope in the universe is when someone accuses character A, who is part of a real or fantasy or coded minority, of doing something bad and everyone's like "That's just your prejudice against [real or fantasy minority]!" and it turns out character A actually did do that bad thing and everyone else was stupid for not believing they did that bad thing.

Imagine you're Mr. Wu and your weird gay daughter runs away in tears after destroying some unespecified object while yelling about you ruining her life. Because you told her you'd be moving to another state. This is the last time you see your daughter in half a year, and when she comes back, she comes back... wrong. She's wearing a light leather armor, a fur-lined cape, and a green flower crown. She has two long scars, one alongside her spine and the other along her chest, the tissue around them covered in burn scars. Doctors say she shouldn't have survived. Doctors say she didn't. Yet she's right here, in front of you, hospital gown clinging to her small, fragile, trembling frame. She fidgets with her hands. Getting her to stay still has always been difficult, but now it seems impossible. She won't let go of her phone. She's always texting her two friends. When you take it away, she gets anxious. You always knew those damn phones cause kids to act weird, but your kid having a panic attack seems too extreme, even for her. Then again, she's always been odd. Nowadays, she wakes up crying and screaming almost every night, and you realize she's been stealing her phone from your bedside drawer every night to text her friends, returning it before you wake up. You catch her once and decide to give her that damn phone back. It's the only thing that calms her down, as if she were a baby with a pacifier. She spends her last weeks in LA clinging to her friends, having sleepovers and playing her weird board games with them. Everytime they drop her back at her house, there's an excessive amount of hugs and tears. But the moments when they call her, or when she leaves to meet with them, or when they show up at their door to pick her up... those are the only moments in which you see her happy. One of her friends, the rude and disobedient one, came back with a big scar on her face. She's been acting a lot nicer, though. The other one too. She acts a great deal more adult now. You doesn't know what happened or where your daughter went. She won't tell you. But you can tell this friendship is the only thing keeping her afloat right now. Maybe you know, deep down, that no one else would understand.

And then you decide to move anyway because fuck her amirite

How would Fell! Papyrus react to finding out Red is the King's judge?

I kinda run by this idea that Fell Paps’ love language is yelling and violence. He wants his brother to survive, but views him as weak, and scolding him/threatening him is his way of making sure Sans doesn’t get himself killed.

He’s an asshole, and it’s inexcusable abuse for sure, but it’s also Underfell and that’s unfortunately seen as normal there. However, if there’s one thing Paps doesn’t do, it’s lie to his brother. He tells Sans everything to keep him up to date on the happenings Underground, from “hey I killed X monster(s) today,” to “so-and-so is no longer living with what’s-his-face.” Even just telling him about what Undyne taught him in a lesson was important to him. When strength isn’t an option, knowledge is. As long as Sans knows who is where, and who he still needs to worry about, he’ll be fine.

So to find out his brother has had a secret so big? And it’s a job that requires you to know everything about everyone anyway?? AND that he’s probably one of, if not the most powerful monster in the Underground??? Yeah, that makes Papyrus question a few things.

Just wanted to say when it comes to endo neutrals, I really can't help but sneer at them because like... Even if they don't realize it, they're basically saying "I'm neutral to whether you exist or not". And you can't be neutral to the fact that we exist, you know what I'm saying?

Imagine if you said "I'm neutral to gays" or something. "I'm neutral to POC". Like I can't be the only one who feels that way right-

I do feel what you're saying, but I also understand the viewpoint of neutrals.

I very much see the "I'm neutral to whether you exist or not" part, which yes. It hurts. Because yeah, how can you be neutral on someone's existence? It's not exactly like we're over here both existing and not existing. I'm sure you're here, anon, because of my endo neutral post on how I don't trust them because they're an unknown, and I still stand by that.

But also, some people just... don't care. And maybe some people will claim I'm a bad person for this, but I respect that. There's things in life I don't care about. I think it's ridiculous to force a group of people who often struggles with dissociation, memory, and having a stable opinion on things to pick a side in admittedly niche discourse, especially since many of them are still in actively traumatizing situations. Sometimes people just have bigger issues in their lives.

I do wish endo neutrals would do research and inform themselves so that they can take a more definitive stance, but I also recognize that as an unrealistic ask. I think that instead neutrals should think about including the "endo safe"/"not endo safe" dichotomy when it comes to sysblr. Because one can be neutral, and still decide whether or not their post/blog is safe for endogenic systems to interact with.

once again, i think it is so very fucking strange to include a route/path in an INTERACTIVE book and the maximum exploration of it is '????? welp i don't know! ???' in a scooby doo voice.

there is no reason why a resistant detective not be allowed options as to WHY they're resistant to start a relationship with N or F (and I say this as a huge F-fan who agrees when the narrative is like 'why am I doing this?' yes why are you resisting the hot adorable one??). If this journey is given, then I - as the player - should be allowed to explore it as fully as the game/writer's skills allow.

And I know this isn't as far the game/writer's skills allow, because we are granted variations on how to treat a past with Bobby and a future with Douglas, we can decide on our relationship with the Captain and the Mayor - side characters to varying degrees - but we CAN'T choose why the detective might be hesitant to start something as important as a ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP with MAIN CHARACTERS???

Khaos Reigns (2)

So far, my two biggest complaints about new Mortal Kombat storytelling is the lack of Tomas in Lin Kuei-focused  Khaos Reigns and lack of sensible logic behind characters’ choices. This is not really about how characters behave toward each other as this is rooted in the previous game, but how weak is the reasoning that pushes the story forward. Which sadly is how the whole attack on Kuai Liang’s wedding feels to me. We have Bi-Han’s lie 

Cyrax: I still cannot believe that Liu Kang capitulated to Outworld. That he agreed to break up our clan.

that has no backing up. A certain time has passed between MK1 and current story mode, right? So if Liu Kang capitulated to Outworld, then logically Outworld forces should showed up in Earthrealm or the Fire Lord would knock on their door to say sorry guys, no more Lin Kuei; something Lin Kuei would be first to know. Even more, since apparently Lin Kuei were asked to protect Earthrealm in dire need in the previous game, something they refused to do (as we were told by Tomas). Liu Kang capitulating to Outworld would be a political change hard to miss. So it is no wonder why Cyrax is not buying it, as this lie makes little sense.

(Personally I think it would be better if Lin Kuei were not “deceived” but simply wanted their independence and supported Bi-Han for this goal alone, while Sub-Zero letting his father die still works fine as the shocking revelation to cast a doubt in Cyrax’s mind.)

Then we have Sektor and Bi-Han acknowledging Cyrax suspecting their deception

but apparently this is not a concerning enough to, you know, not including her in the attack or not giving her the top-technologically advanced armor, if you can't be sure of her loyalty.

Bi-Han said they will be ready when Cyrax learns the truth but as the story goes, there are no backup plans for that scenario. Sub-Zero does not deny he lied or killed his father and I really wonder what he or Sektor expected to happen? Yeah, so much for being ready to deal with the problem they were aware of from the start.

Same with the stealth attack on the wedding. Lin Kuei warriors successfully got unnoticed inside Wu Shi place,

where the wedding was happening. And instead of some of those ninjas quietly opening one of the gates, Sektor was using her guns to destroy the main gate, losing the element of surprise.

A tactical surprise that she and Bi-Han wanted to use it to their advantage.

Not to mention Lin Kuei warriors had no problem with getting past the not-even-so-high walls so it is not like the main gate was so necessary for their army to get inside. Or if they have such great firepower, they should thrown some grenades over the walls or set bombs before frontal attacking. Just saying.

Okay, that could be just Lin Kuei arrogance or testing the armors in battle (something they could anytime anywhere), but one would think a clan that for ages was doing commando-like work for Liu Kang would get the stealth attack correctly. Especially since one of the first things Sektor told us on screen was that Lin Kuei were not trained for Tournaments but for war.

Cyrax is overall a fine character, but for me she lacks an edge the MK9’s male Cyrax had and thus feel, well, meek. The story shows her as a person with a strong moral sense, however Bi-Han literally said to her the mission is to attack Kuai Liang and his clan. Harumi chose to fight back so why is Cyrax so surprised that Lin Kuei warriors were ready to kill her? It’s not part of their missions, she said when attacking her own people to save Scorpion’s fiance/wife-to-be, but for me this shows how much Cyrax is just naive and detached from reality. The previous game showed us that Lin Kuei brothers are ruthless fighters (Bi-Han was ready to decapitate defeated Shang Tsung, Kuai Liang effectively killed his opponents with no hesitate), so Cyrax jumping to rescue a woman that killed her own comrades kinda made me wonder, why she is even that important to Sektor or Bi-Han to be involved with them so close? Like, there is little I can see that could interest Bi-Han or Sektor in her, as she is presented from the start as disrespectful toward her superior and mentor (Sektor) and way more idealistic than any of them is. Literally the first argument she has with Sektor and her criticism about ambush & sneak attack tactics feels a bit off, considering this is what Lin Kuei were doing even as the good guys, presumably for centuries and with full approval of Liu Kang (as was seen in previous game).

Sure, we could say Cyrax is new! She knows no better… but then storyline openly claims she and Kuai Liang knew each other before he left the clan and even were once friends, so it is not like Cyrax just joined the Lin Kuei. On one hand, I understand why NRS went with Cyrax’s personality in such a direction, on another, she feels so un-Lin Kuei, I have no idea why Sektor and Sub-Zero even bothered with her in the first place. Like... what was so special about Cyrax for the whole fuss about her from their perspective?

In all fairness, I’m also a bit confused how MK1 and Khaos Reigns follow the same storyline. In the previous game, Bi-Han was captured by Kuai Liang after the ill-fated mission and presumably imprisoned. Then somehow Lin Kuei was asked(?) to aid Liu Kang in the battle against the sorcerers

so how is that the news of Sub-Zero allying with Shang Tsung is still a secret to anyone  if Lin Kuei already made a decision to abbadon Earthrealm in need - story wise, after Bi-Han was defeated by Scorpion and captured? So I’m to believe Scorpion took compromised Sub-Zero to Lin Kuei headquarters like nothing happened, did not mention the whole allying with enemy, then left to honor tradition and dad and joined Liu Kang and some time later he is angry at Cyrax she believed in a not-well prepared lie? Is this me, or did NRS not connect all the dots together between the first game and the additional storyline and kinda every character took damage to intelligence so the story could go from point A to point B?

The relationship between certain characters is frustrating, I won’t lie about it. But I’m much more frustrated by how the logic and consequences of events feel either forced or make little sense. I do not except a brilliant, smart storytelling from a fighting game, but when characters that are supposed to be competent and/or trained for a specific job suddenly share one brain cell - and no one is using it at all - kills a great chunk of enthusiasm I had for Mortal Kombat.

I may not like my fav characters being robbed of their original complexity and yet still enjoying the fact they are part of the storyline. I do however take a great offense when story mode turns them into incompetent idiots just to push plot from point A to point B.

Marika spoilers specifically this time :)

Considering that the hornsent people are the ones who were committing genocide against Marika's people, it makes sense why omens are treated so badly in the Land Between. Literally, Marika treats them as they treated her and her people.

The omens having their horns cut off, which usually results in death. The numens being whipped until their flesh mended together, and then being stuffed in jars. (The omens being forced to live in the sewers also correlates to the numens being forced to live in jars)

How both of these ways were to rid the other of their "curse."

The omenkillers specifically being made to hunt and kill omens, as Marika's people were once hunted.

Like because of the way Marika's people were treated by the hornset is why she treats the omens as the way she does. Now, does this excuse her actions? No, absolutely not. She's now committing genocide onto the omens. But it's what happened to her people. It's something she also had to experience, and she wants them to feel the same way. Now, do the omens know this? I really highly doubt it, but Marika knows about it, and that is what matters. As long as she knows she's hurting them the same way she was hurt, that's all that matters to her.

I bet when she had the omen twins, it was literally hell for her. She gave birth to two people who shared the features of the people who hurt her. They're really lucky she didn't have them kill instantly. Still, they were denied of their life of luxury.

also kinda dumb that when astarion can't stop drinking from Tav/Dark Urge, they can be resurrected. but when we play Astarion origin, if we drink a companion dry, they suffer permadeath. I get that the protagonist needs to stay alive but for the sake of consistency, I feel like there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to resurrect a companion. Or during Tav/Dark Urge origin failing the persuasion roll could result in a "game over" screen. But they didn't do that so I just wish it was logically consistent
