tagged by @fexalted! thank you, I do very much want to talk about my writing but like a vampire I must be invited first
rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs
okay we're just going to pretend that I actually have a WIP folder instead of a google drive that looks like this
fanfic
star trek:
yeah uh, TOS has been a comfort hyperfixation for like several months now, soooo. these are just the most coherent fic ideas I could pull out of the pile.
post-Mirror Mirror (cont)
katra problems
magic doctor powers

gravity falls--dæmon AU look I just really like dæmon AUs okay
gravity falls--Ford & the Internet
ghost trick--raise the dead
original fiction
these are all distinct spec-fic projects. by the way, have I mentioned I have ADHD
some of these are quite recent. some I haven't done any actual work on in ages and would need a major overhaul if/when I go back to them, but if you think a little thing like that would stop me talking about them, well
soft sci-fi:
the lighthouse

fiddler's green
cassidy's been gone
other stuff:
oracle project
riftweavers
vampire project
airship world
project domino
fog and fire
adventurer dads
museum of the weird
call to adventure
time traveler's handbook
alright it's 4:30AM and I am genuinely blanking on who to tag that wouldn't have already gotten this from someone else, but let's be real that's way more WIPs than I have mutuals anyway.

39. Out of itself the Brain has constructed a physician to heal it. This subform of the Macro-Brain is not deranged; it moves through the Brain, as a phagocyte moves through the cardiovascular system of an animal, healing the derangement of the Brain in section after section. We know of its arrival here; we know it as Asklepios for the Greeks and as the Essenes for the Jews; as the Therapeutae for the Egyptians; as Jesus for the Christians.
12. The Immortal One was known to the Greeks as Dionysos; to the Jews as Elijah; to the Christians as Jesus. He moves on when each human host dies, and thus is never killed or caught. Hence Jesus on the cross said, ‘Eli, Eli, lama Sabachthani,’ to which some of those present correctly said, ‘The man is calling on Elijah.’ Elijah had left him and he died alone. 7. The One is, and is not(, (; ..)) the Monad.

A History of Vegetarianism and Veganism in the World Religions - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast
A rarely discussed amazing history of vegetarianism and even veganism in the great world religions and philosophies:
Akhenaten the "Heretic" Egyptian Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, who ruled for 17 years;
Hebrew Bible, First Book of Moses: Genesis;
Yoga Shastra, a sutra or scripture of Jainism;
Bhagavad Gita of Krishna;
Srimad Bhagavatam;
The Laws of Manu, a kind of "Hindu Torah" or Book of Laws;
Pythagoras and the Pythagoreans;
Porphyry, a 3rd century AD Neo-Platonist philosopher;
The Vegetarian Prayer of Thanksgiving in the Epilogue of Asclepius of the Corpus Hermeticum, and the same prayer again, as it also turns up in the Nag Hammadi Library of Egypt, the Gnostic Gospels;
Early Church “Heresy Hunters” that used to require meat-eating on Sundays as a way to discover who the veg Gnostics were in their midst;
Philo of Alexandria's description of veg meals at a Jewish Therapeutae monastic community in Alexandria perhaps related to the Essenes;
The Bahai Faith: Baha’u’llah, ‘Abdu’l-Baha, and Shoghi Effendi -- prophecies of a vegan future of humanity;
Vegetarianism in Islam: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Rabia of Basra, Bawa Muhaiyaddeen and the Sufis;
John the Baptist, who ate locust bean (carob) flour, not locusts -- BEANS NOT BUGS;
And… blessed are the textual variants: the Mystery of the Missing Veg Saying of Jesus found in Luke 21: 34 of the Evangelion Da-Mepharreshe -- the Old Syriac-Aramaic manuscript of the New Testament Gospels but is no longer present in Greek manuscripts.

The Danger of Neglecting Traditional Medicine and Care
The Danger of Neglecting Traditional Medicine and Care
You are Admired & Respected
“People become successful the minute they decide to” - Harvey Mackay.
“Aspects of truth related to care and of medicine have been removed what has been instigated to the modern times is a dangerous and inferior practice and understanding of medicine and care of the infirm, the result is a disparaging effect which is and has been a detriment to people’s health and care when they are infirm, and what exists does to acknowledge I or serve what I taught and instructed to be undertook in care and medicinal influence for the infirm and the modern medicine systems are inferior to the level of being dangerous to the infirm” – Asclepius ‘God of Medicine’.
The Titan Society – Cronus ‘Titan Leader, Destroyer’, Hecate ‘Witchcraft, Destroyer’ Circe ‘Sorceress, Destroyer’.
Andrew Rogers – Founder, Creative Director, Writer, Oracle.
The words of Asclepius, the revered 'God of Medicine,' emphasize the dire consequences of removing key aspects of truth related to care and medicine. This dangerous practice has prevailed in modern times, leading to an inferior understanding of medical care for the infirm.
The disparaging effect produced by this approach poses a significant detriment to the health and well-being of those who are sick or ailing. Regrettably, existing medical systems fail to acknowledge or incorporate the wisdom that Asclepius imparted, resulting in a severe deficiency in the provision of proper care and medicinal influence for the infirm.
It is evident that the current state of modern medicine falls far short of the levels required for the well-being of the infirm. In fact, these systems have reached such a level of inferiority that they now pose a dangerous risk to the very individuals they are meant to help. The consequences of this unfortunate situation call for urgent reflection and a renewed commitment to the advancement of medical care based on the wisdom handed down by Asclepius.
Asclepius: The Hero and God of Medicine in Ancient Greek Mythology
In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Asclepius holds a prominent position as the hero and god of medicine. Revered for his healing prowess, Asclepius represents the essence of the medical arts and plays a vital role in ancient Greek culture.
According to the myths, Asclepius is the son of Apollo and a mortal woman named Coronis. Born with exceptional abilities in the field of healing, he became renowned for his miraculous treatments and became the patron deity of medicine. Asclepius' remarkable skills surpassed those of any mortal physician, making him an object of immense admiration and veneration.
Asclepius' significance is further highlighted through his family members, who embody different aspects of health and well-being. His daughters, Hygieia, Iaso, Aceso, Aglæa, and Panacea, represent various facets of the healing process. Hygieia personifies health, cleanliness, and sanitation, while Iaso symbolizes recuperation from illness. Aceso is associated with the healing process, Aglæa represents beauty and splendor, and Panacea is revered as the goddess of universal remedy. Together, they form a divine family unit that encompasses the different aspects of holistic medicine.
In addition to his role as a Greek deity, Asclepius shares connections with gods from other cultures. He is associated with the Roman/Etruscan god Vediovis and the Egyptian deity Imhotep, further highlighting his influence beyond the borders of Greece.
One of the most iconic symbols linked to Asclepius is the rod of Asclepius, which features a snake entwined around a staff. This emblem has persisted throughout history and is still recognized as a symbol of medicine in modern times. It represents the healing arts and the intertwining of knowledge, wisdom, and nature—a timeless reminder of Asclepius' mastery.
Worshipers of Asclepius, known as the Therapeutae of Asclepius, were dedicated to serving the god through the practice of medicine. These physicians and attendants sought to honor Asclepius by providing compassionate care and healing to those in need.
The influence of Asclepius extends beyond his divine status. He not only personifies the healing aspect of medicine but also embodies the hope and solace that accompanies it. Asclepius serves as a reminder to ancient and modern societies alike of the power of medicine to restore health and well-being.
In conclusion, Asclepius holds a pivotal role in Greek mythology as the hero and god of medicine. Through his exceptional healing abilities, he represents the essence of the medical arts and serves as a symbol of hope and healing. With his daughters symbolizing various aspects of well-being and the enduring presence of the rod of Asclepius, his influence extends far beyond ancient Greece, making him a revered figure throughout history.

The Therapeutae - The Ancient Mystics that Inspired Christian Monasticism (& were maybe Buddhists?) Philo of Alexandria held that the Essenes were the exemplar of the Active Philosophical Life among ancient Jews. And with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls we now know much more about that ancient sect. However, Philo held there was a mystical group superior to even them in their piety and rigor. The Egyptian Therapeutae were held up as paragons of the Contemplative Life, even giving mystical teachings while dreaming. What do we know about the Therapeutae? Let's explore how these ancient Jewish mystics not only led lives of exceptional purity and mystical contemplation but also inspired the rise of Monasticism in early Christianity. Kit Knox
Biographical Data Form
Name: Kit Knox
Age: 47
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: January 1st 1976
Place of Birth: London, UK
Nationality: English
Physical Appearance: Kit has a distinctive appearance with tousled hair and a contemplative expression. His blue eyes hold a mixture of brilliance and turbulence, reflecting the complexity of his thoughts.
Background and History
Before we burn
The Knox family gained renown owning numerous mental health facilities across America, beginning in 1985 with the establishment of New York’s Succlife Sanatorium. This spearheaded further East Coast expansions in 1990—including Lunnox, Youthful and Lazure Sanatoriums. Jerome Knox’s vision and pioneering treatment approaches attracted wealthy investors, fueling rapid construction.
Jerome demonstrated relentless drive building a prestigious chain of lavish establishments over decades. Though many bid to transform his sanatoriums into detainment facilities for criminals and extreme incurables, he firmly refused. His focus stayed on serving non-criminal patients and preserving harmony across all Knox properties.
By 1998, aging founder Jerome Knox risked losing control to outside interests aiming to rewrite his family’s legacy. Thus his only child Kit Knox assumed leadership, protecting his father’s principles from corruption. He would oversee continuity of quality care along with modernization while avoiding predatory ventures.
Under Kit’s guardianship, the Knox brand continues standing for dignity and compassion tailored to the mental health spectrum. His stewardship defends both patient autonomy and his family’s defining ideals across ever-more profitable sanatoriums. Investors may clamor but the virtue Jerome built into the brick and mortar remains steadfast.
Today the Knox Sanatorium Group boasts cutting-edge facilities paired with wholesome community enrichment. And Kit ensures every decision honors both his father’s humanism and his duty to guide a new era for the properties Jerome made timeless.
After we burn
Kit Knox's era
In his first year leading, Kit Knox faced shareholders doubtful of his readiness. Many questioned whether the 22-year old college senior grasped necessary nuance. But inheriting his father’s relentless drive and intellect, Kit slowly overcame doubts through tenacity, scientific acumen, and public communications savvy.
Kit pioneered innovations like evidence-based therapies, medications, and holistic wellness supports. But his true vision involved advancing experimental methods below Succlife’s bunker walls - including radical brain surgeries for patients not stabilized through conventional means.
Though psychosurgery remained deeply controversial and risky, Kit relentlessly pursued its development, sinking massive funding into related research despite lacking willing participants. Some viewed his methods overzealous, unable to distinguish between ethical and unethical “cures.”
Desperate to prevent investment flight, Kit increasingly took liberties - not just custom tailoring pharmaceutical mixes but concocting extreme chemical solutions he daringly tested on vulnerable subjects. Then a Malaysian doctor named Dr. A██ arrived, introducing underground compounds and Eastern healing wisdom that renewed Kit’s inspiration.
Beyond promising new remedies, Dr. A██ offered connections to his original teachers—shadowy Middle Eastern Therapeutae elders whose resources could fuel Kit’s unconventional programs. Lured by the prospect, Kit met with the secretive cabal, hoping this “Elderly” order might help him manifest explosive innovations in healing the mind. But in allying with such occult forces, was he preparing to cross the final line between visionary and madman?
Madness era
Kit Knox’s once-wholesome facilities quietly morphed into bunkers where The Elderly cabal now ruled half-owners. Dozens of militants from the Middle East and Southeast Asia secretly traveled through seeking experimental neural procedures and stimulant cocktails banned on American soil. But shrewd Knox leveraged powerful allies to evade government detection, his charity campaigns concealing the man’s true ambition.
To surrounding communities, Knox adopted the persona of a generous philanthropist frequently sponsoring fundraising galas in major cities. Yet behind this illusion of selfless benevolence drove a relentless scientist dangerously unchecked by ethical constraints. Only his inner circle witnessed the intravenous alchemy and psychosurgery trials that granted militarized subjects amplified pain tolerance or subdued empathy at the expense of their psyche’s stability.
Knox ensured no average citizen detected his well-masked dual life. If his medical innovations meant ravaging minds, if the Elderly’s geopolitical agenda meant sheltering wanted extremists, the profits justified the means. His New York glitterati supporters had no complaints, dazzled by his generous donations and family’s sterling reputation. But intelligence agencies eyeing Knox’s empire sensed darker truths lurking below all that unblemished white marble.
Post Dr A██
Tensions erupted when Knox uncovered The Elderly’s true jihadist agenda for Dr. A██ and other extremist assets like Imam Ocean, Khamrozi, and Lai Amiron. Though obsessed with unlocking the brain’s mysteries without ethical constraints, Knox recoiled at directly enabling religious terrorism overseas no matter the profits. His hospitals would empower fanatics no more, regardless of shared sympathies against certain Southeast Asian regimes.
When Dr. A██ returned from a clandestine Middle East training camp clearly further radicalized for impending strikes on civilian targets, Knox revoked his access credentials citing security risks. Then Imam Ocean and his two henchmen arrived unannounced to forcibly retrieve sensitive operational documents only for Knox’s private military contractors to forcibly deport them.
These assertive actions constituted an unmistakable purge dissociating Knox from the Elders’ planned attacks. He would stretch medical ethics but not outright enable extremist mayhem through his facilities. Severing those treasonous ties also served self-interest, as discovery of such collusion would thoroughly undermine his public repute as philanthropist should scandals erupt on foreign shores. Knox’s ambitions pushed boundaries but even he recoiled at the greatest moral crossing lines. For the Elders, his defiance jeopardized major operations. And the shadowy coalition was not one to tolerate disloyalty from once-useful assets.
Personality:
Even in his early 20s with limited experience, Kit exuded relentless confidence and ambition to expand his family’s mental health facilities despite initial pushback. Where others saw merely his youth, Kit saw dramatic developments propelled by his extraordinary abilities. He held little regard for naysayers, consumed by his grand scientific visions and generational duty to advance his father’s life work through boundary-pushing innovation. Though morally flexible when needed to protect his autonomy, Kit’s primary motivations were furthering knowledge and cementing his legacy. This drive suggests strong achievement orientation tendencies. While outwardly seeking financing to sponsor research with clear goals, Kit privately had an obsessive interest in dubious approaches such as surgical neuroprogramming. To deflect suspicion, he presented an image of altruistic altruism through campaigns, galas, and public appearances, utilizing his enormous interpersonal attractiveness. This deliberate veneer allowed him to shield the most unconventional and ethically questionable studies from external scrutiny. But internally, Kit remains convinced that his creative genius and intimate understanding of the brain justify moving beyond constraints. He believes that no one else lacks the intelligence and vision required to implement his discoveries, which have the potential to change mental healthcare. His ego appears to inspire ideological fervor. Kit fulfills the paradigm of a visionary scientist in many ways: he is extremely clever, insatiably curious, and committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge forward. Kit is aims, along with his unwavering belief in his own power to transform fields and a flexible morality that emphasizes patient well-being over findings, raise serious issues. For, in his desire to uncover the secrets of the mind by whatever means necessary, Kit brings civilization closer to unsettling and deadly applications at the intersection of sickness cures and human breakdown engineering. His unregulated experiments thus threaten to destabilize the same institutions that his family labored to establish. Kit's grounded humanism serves as a balanced counterbalance, but it is constantly jeopardized by surrounding extreme sympathizers who want to use his abilities for harmful ideological objectives.
It's just something I threw on for the essential of Josiah and I's connection.
Everything will be refurbished when necessary throughout the existence of our connection.

This is a side blog for a WIP I'm working on where I collect any flotsam off tumblr that's relevant- art, academic articles, jokes, etc.
Whats it about?
So far it's about a middle aged veteran recovering from PTSD related amnesia accidentally getting himself possessed by the recently deceased object of his obsession- another middle aged man, now widely known as a villain. Crucially, he has recovered a lot of his memory, but remembers almost nothing about this man, who remembers him a great deal. This sets him off on a journey to remember- and eventually, to make things right.
Setting
Fantasy world inspired by Late Antiquity Coptic Egypt, where a rebellion force managed to get a successful foothold and had taken back most of Egypt with the help of Palmyra- except Alexandria.
Characters (under construction)
Jijoi (bearer of the sidelock; a title of Horus-pa-khere); a enunch raised partially in an Upper Egyptian village's adjoining Therapeutae monastic community and trained medicine. He originally lived in another Therapeutae village, but it was massacred under accusation of rebellion, leaving him the only survivor rescued by a monk that had planned a visit. Also sometimes called, a bit meanly, "Elelkime" (bruise). Somehow managed to get a woman pregnant. Questions about this will invite a slightly annoyed stare and a reminder that as a doctor, he knows life is incredibly strange. Prior to his marriage, known to be a good time for fine looking men. Also known for his bad temper, strength, and ability to nurse a grudge.
Kalashire (giant/soldier); our protagonist. A somewhat unremarkable young man from a Christian family who took up the sword for the sake of his home. Charismatic, though impulsive and possessing a poor understanding not just of other's emotions, but his own as well. In his most recently fought battle, earned the honor of the first one to scale the city wall, nearly at the cost of his life, earning him military honor and the epithet "Wallbreaker".
Pishoi (male prefix + fate); Jijoi’s tenderhearted only son. Not nearly as talented at medicine, and coddled as much as Jijoi and his mother, Maure, could manage.
Maure (unknown meaning, flitched from a Coptic spell papyri); another Therapeutae. Unfortunately dead before the telling of our tale, and needing to be fleshed out more by this humble author.
Pijemmahor (male prefix + finder of treasure); one of Jijoi’s old flames, and still a trusted confidant of him and Maure, having lived closely with them while Pishoi was in the womb. Also needs more fleshing out.
Additional info
All characters are Coptic unless otherwise specified, owing to how in the early days of Coptic identity forming that it was a more religiously diverse community.
The Therapeutae are a real attested group known to have existed in Ptolemaic Egypt; recent analysis has suggested they were a Buddhist group, perhaps one that syncretized with Judaism and other local religions. Unfortunately little information about them exists, and in constructing a hypothetical I am drawing from ancient world Egyptian Judaisms (including communities that aggregated around Jewish temples built in Egypt) and Theravada Buddhism.
Planned is a cultural appendix discussing things I knew prior to writing this and elements of research that are going into writing this to explain certain cultural aspects.
Jijoi and Kalashire are going to fuck nasty. Jijoi has fucked nasty. He will continue to fuck nasty. If/when I actually publish this, do not cry that they fucked nasty.

idle curiosity: does anyone I know have any recommendations for researching Buddhism from a more practical perspective, as opposed to the often philosophical/secular one presented in a lot of English texts?
#cipher talk#Especially if you like. Grew up with Buddhism#A lot of this is because I'm trying to figure out the historically informed way to write about the way a real group may have practiced#(Therapeutae- Egyptian sect that is currently thought to have a Judeo-Buddhist syncretized religion)#(The information we have from the time says North Indian Buddhists sent emissaries into Ptolemic Egypt and Eastern Rome but we also have#A great deal of evidence that Roman Egypt traded with Tamil peoples and that possibly was a greater influence. INDIA: The Purpose of Life: “With Swamiji there is no such thing as idle chatter; he talks of the impermanence of the body and the purpose of life — attaining spiritual enlightenment to avoid samsara (endless rebirth). He reminds me that when I die nothing will go with me; I will have to leave everything behind, except the accumulated spiritual wealth of my personal sadhana [meditation practice].”
“In conversation with Swamiji, he suddenly bursts out enthusiastically with ‘Brahmamuhurta!’ This, I learn, is the time between 3.00 AM and 6.00 AM known as the most favourable time for Sadhana (one’s spiritual practices). During Brahmamuhurta, so called as it is considered the most auspicious time for meditating on Brahman (God), the mind is calm and less engaged with worldly thoughts, worries and anxieties. Also the atmospheric energy during this time is more charged with sattva (purity), increasing the likelihood one’s practice will go deeper, with the corresponding health and well-being benefits.” (Glimpses Into Sant Mat Ashram Life: Rishikesh, Sanctuary of Sadhus, Sages and the Occasional Enlightened Master)
EGYPT: Members of the Therapeutae order wore white like some Sikhs and Sufis: “…and being clothed in tunics of the most delicate texture, and of the purest white…” (Philo of Alexandria) In the case of most Gnostic groups, and the Jewish Essene sect, we only know them through their writings — their teachings, not much else. In the case of the Therapeutae no collections of their writings have ever been found, but through Philo of Alexandria we have a fairly detailed description of their daily life and weekly format of worship. THERAPEUTAE OF ASCLEPIUS || the aftermath pt.2
Saturday 18 July 2020; 6:00
You’re dreaming. Everything seems normal until pure light surrounds you, enveloping you and your surroundings completely. You feel your consciousness awaken: you are aware you were dreaming and know you are not yet awake. Before you a man appears, though to call him that seems wrong. He is both man and better than man. He is the most beautiful being you’ve ever seen; yet, you can barely hold his image in your mind even as you gaze upon him.
He says nothing, he speaks to you without words. You come to understand that he has visited you to give you a gift for your actions yesterday. He withheld power from you because he didn’t think you were ready. And you’re not, not for all of it, but you have shown your worth. He touches your breastbone and you feel your manacore expand - the feeling is the worst pain and most intoxicating euphoria you’ve ever felt wrapped into one and it only lasts a second.
He tells you that your journey has barely begun. To keep those you love alive you will have to shoulder burdens hereto unknown; you will have to grow to new heights. Darkness swallows you.
You have been blessed by Asclepius.
Like surfacing gasping from a still, dark pond, Max sat straight up in bed and struggled to catch her breath, sheets tangled around her as her fingers tangled in her shirt over her heart. Her eyes cast wildly around the room even as it sunk in that she wouldn’t find anything -- or anyone. She was alone.
“What the actual fuck,” she breathed aloud into the emptiness of her room, hands coming up to swipe shakily at her cheeks as she realized they were streaked with tears. Was that real? It’d felt so fucking real. Max flattened her palm against her stomach as her breaths started to even out, and for a long moment, she didn’t even dare try reaching for her core. She didn’t know what to expect or what she’d find. For a moment, she was terrified it’d feel exactly the same, and it was all a dream.
Finally, tentatively, Max tugged at a thread.
The result was instantaneous, like the unexpected drop from too tall a height or the breath knocked out of her from an especially strong opponent. Max closed her fist and let go of it like a hot iron, exhaling sharply. Slowly, she started to grin. Eventually, she started to laugh. Tears were streaming down her face again and Max didn't bother to try and stop them. “Holy shit,” she whispered to the stone walls. “Holy fucking shit.”
With the sun already creeping its first rays over the horizon, she knew there wasn’t a chance she’d be getting back to sleep. Instead, Max methodically made a cup of tea as soon as her hands steadied again -- a bitter black, tempered with honey -- and curled herself in the window alcove looking down at the edge of the training pitch. Squires were already assembling the training weapons to the beaten earth for Saturday morning’s remedial training, to be attended by sleep-laced lower-rankers. Max just watched, and soothed herself with the methodical mundanity of it.
Without even noticing the gesture Max rubbed absentmindedly at her breastbone, the stinging echo of those icy, sterile fingertips nestled just under her skin. She pulled her mug in to press to her chest through the thin fabric of her shirt, but the warmth of it couldn’t banish the cold. Max smiled quietly to herself regardless; if the feeling faded, fine. If it didn’t, also fine. She’d wear it like a reminder, if that was what the silvered being wanted -- a funny sentiment to have so suddenly, Max thought. To think about what that mysterious figure wanted more than to think about what she wanted. So many healers treated their race and their ability like a matter of religion, where Max and her father had always treated it like a matter of fact. A talent they’d earned, more than one that’d been bestowed upon them but some shadowy deity. Because of her father, Max had never ascribed to a particularly religious school of thought.
Now, though… a bitch might just consider some nightly prayers.
