How they found out Parallel Canon was a copy of Agent 4 (warning long and open-ended):

(Note, this is slightly more specific to my version of the agents. Namely, that a couple of them use sign language instead of talking at least some of the time.)

For context, with all the palettes safely reconfigured, Marina, the Octarian engineers, and even their new ally Smollusk were working together to undo the damage Order did to the spire.

Smollusk was the first to realize what Parallel Canon was. It knew that, as Order, it used Agent 4's palette as a base for Parallel Canon, copying the data over directly (imperfectly, but surely it was close enough to be the Order Defense Force). Parallel Canon itself was then copied into further soldiers.

After disabling the aggression algorithms in all the Jelletons, it noticed the Parallel Canons didn't become inactive like the others. Instead, the Parallel Canons became... panicked? They were acting in ways that seemed irrational to Smollusk.

It was digging through their code that made Smollusk realize what was up. The file size of each Parallel Canon was massive, comparable only to the other sentient AIs like Smollusk and Cipher.

While Smollusk didn't understand the full ramifications of what it had done, it did know it was probably bad. It had the mind of a child, and it knew Marina was still upset about some of the other stuff it did as Order, so it did what seemed most logical to it:

It locked the Parallel Canons to the Intensifying Harmony floor and tried to hide that floor away.

Marina noticed what seemed to be a coding bloat in the Intensifying Harmony floor. The data seemed to be concentrated in the boss Order had kept there. Was a basic turfling enemy really so hard for it to make? Smollusk insisted it would take care of it, and that she and the other engineers should focus on restoring the other floors instead.

But weeks went by, and there were no changes to Intensifying Harmony. Eventually, she went to check it out herself. (I imagine, for the sake of narrative, it is easier to program an area in the Memverse by "physically" being there. Like how she had to be on the top floor to reconfigure palettes.)

Marina arrived to find the Parallel Canons "zoning out" for lack of a better term. Some lied on the floor. Some sat around. Oddly, a couple seemed to be interacting with each other, as though they were conversing.

When she went to get a closer look, she suddenly had all of their attention. They all started running towards her. She got out of there before they got close.

Now, she was worried. Smollusk insisted it would handle it when she brought it up. She started to think Smollusk might still be trying to create its world of order.

When she went back, she brought some help to protect her. Most notable being Eight. She still hadn't gotten around to offering Agent 4 the head of security role, and if this was in anyway an attempt for Smollusk to regain power, it was safer to have Eight leading the charge.

When the group arrived, they once again got the attention of the Parallel Canons. Pearl was ready to start blasting them, but Eight was the one to point out they weren't attacking. They didn't even have their weapons. They mostly emitted distorted noises and made... hand motions?

Eight started to recognize it as Inkling Sign Language. She didn't use it much herself, but she learned some of it because her roommate, Agent 4, would use it a lot. The Captain used it, too, sometimes. She wasn't fluent, but she knew enough of the basics.

She was concerned when she picked out things like "Please," and "Help me," and even "I want to go home."

Her first thought was, if this really had to do with Smollusk recreating Order, were these people Smollusk trapped in the Memverse? But that couldn't be. It couldn't bring anyone into the Memverse anymore after its first defeat. The Parallel Canons had been in the Memverse since Eight first climbed the tower, and everyone Order initially pulled in was freed, too.

"Yo, Eight," Pearl started to ask as she noticed Eight's facial expression, "what's up?"

Eight ignored Pearl's question, and asked one of her own. "Who are you?"

She was answered by the Parallel Canon with a mask rather than a helmet. One with a tentacle style that, while familiar, she hadn't questioned before because lots of squids styled their hair that way.

"Eight," the masked Parallel Canon signed, "it's me, [Agent 4]."

A couple notes: I tried to draw Parallel Canon signing the word "me" in American Sign Language, but since I don't know sign language, I used a picture from the internet as reference. Apologies if it came out wrong.

Also, where "Agent 4" is said in brackets, Agent 4 would say her actual name, but since I (currently) try not to use headcanon names in my works, I just put her universal name.

Also, this started as a sort of summary of more angst, but evolved into a short ficlet at the end, haha.

i think genuinely one of the moments in the novel that really stuck to me, was a quiet small moment between kdj, when kdj was talking to lgy about his sponsor and he raises his hand- and lgy flinches. So kdj holds his hand until he stops trembling.

like that moment is just SO TENDER and quietly devastating. Because kdj loves lgy. But he also sees himself in lgy. And he can't love that reflection of himself.

Yet he still does love lgy sm, and when he raises his hand and realizes lgy's fear, he just holds his hand in silent comfort.. and just sits there with him. until he's able to calm down again, kdj just sits with him.

Fernando Alonso & His Relationship With Cards

I'm sure we're all familar with the cards on the back of Fernando's Vegas GP helmet by now, but did you know his relationship with cards goes a lot deeper?

I. Magic Tricks

You've probably seen or heard someone at least mention Fernando's propensity for card tricks. As far as I can tell he was doing them(publically) as far back as 2003 all the way to as recently as 2018. Even once performing a card trick, with a condom and a teddy bear(!??!?!??!!), in front of Valentino Rossi who said "How was that possible?"(x)

But how did this start? According to James Allen, "Fernando admits to having been heavily influenced by his grandfather, a mercurial figure, who taught him magic and card tricks, still one of his passions away from the race track."(x) And I'm not sure the validity of this one, because I couldn't find an actual source, but apparently he once said: "My parents are responsible for the two things I like doing most - driving and magic tricks. They bought me my first go-kart and a magician's kit."

In several interviews he described it as his hobby off track, and that he loved learning new tricks and surprising others in the garage with them! So clearly cards are pretty important to him both as a hobby but also to who he is as a person since they've been with him just as long as racing has.

II. Card Symbolism in His Helmets

This is the reason I originally made this post, but I thought I should also explain the origins of his card fascination first. As I said, we probably all remember the cards on the back of his helmet in Vegas, but did you know that wasn't the first time he had cards on the back of his helmet?

From 2008-2013, he used to have a pair of cards on the back of his helmets. The symbolisms of the cards themselves as well as the evolution of their design is really fascinating to me! Even more so with the recent development of the card choice in 2023.

Fernando said he wanted to reference his two titles in some way on the back of his helmet and after his friend sent him several ideas, he decided on having two cards(an ace of clubs and an ace of hearts, sometimes pictured with 05 and 06 on them as well), saying: "I picked the cloverleaf [the ace of clubs - Ed] to give me luck, but the only pity is that it doesn't have four leaves!"(X)

2008.

Here's the very first appearance of the cards! They're displayed flat, with the 05 and 06 clearly visible

2009.

Very similar to 2008, but with a slightly different design, and they're maybe a bit more straight with less shadow?

2010.

This is the first major change! I was sad they didn't have the years on them anymore, but then I realized they're sparkly to match with his signature lightning bolts on the top of the helmet!!

2011.

Honestly I'm still somewhat unsure if this is the actual 2011 helmet? It's pretty difficult to find clear photos of the back of helmets from older seasons. It's easiest to find them on replica sites or auction sites so I'm not 100%? But anyways, I like that this has the championship years on the underside of the cards

2012.

This is when I started getting weirdly emotional about the helmets. Do you see how they've progressed from being a centerpoint to being curled up and sad at the bottom of the helmet? Not listing the year anymore??

2013.

Same thoughts as 2012. And after this season, they cease to exist (just like his ferrari chair in the garage, WOAH CALLBACK), until cards make a reeappearance in his Vegas helmet, albeit in a different form

2013 Monaco(Honorable Mention):

For some reason 2013 helmets were easier to find proper pictures of, so I happened to witness this absolute beauty. The creativity of this helmet genuinely blows me away??? Wanting to keep the card motif, but making sure to incorporate it into the rest of the puzzle piece design?? Mwah! There was another special 2013 helmet but they didn't change the cards at all so I really applaud this one

2023 Las Vegas(The Return of The King):

The magnificent return! But look! The cards are different cards! Instead of being two aces, it's now an ace of hearts, a four of hearts(his driver number of course!) and, the, now iconic, representation of himself as a Joker. I literally could not believe my eyes when this helmet was released and I saw the Joker card, what a fucking silly old man....I really wonder if he felt nostalgic having cards on his helmet again or if he didn't think about it all and was just like, "ah cards because Vegas!!!"

III. Why Does This Matter?

*The rest of the post was factual, this is moreso my personal thoughts on the symbolism of the cards/designs

This post spawned from me recently watching the 2010 Bahrain gp and noticing "hey wait a minute...are those CARDS ON THE BACK OF HIS HELMET!?" It's a really tiny detail that's unfortunately covered up by the HANS device pretty much whenever he's wearing the helmet, so it's really difficult to spot! But I became fascinated with the fact that he had cards on his helmet before that recent helmet, and now here we are!

There's something to me about how the design of the cards evolves over the course of six seasons from the cards being front and center to being smaller, more folded up and closer to the bottom of the helmet. As I said, the 2012-2013 ones genuinely made me depressed because it feels, symbolically, like his hopes for getting another Ace are becoming more and more unlikely and falling away until they eventually fall falt and fade away entirely after 2013 and disappear for basically a decade.

But when they return? They're not the same cards! Instead of representing Fernando's championships, they now represent him as a person, displaying his driver number and his persona of being a Joker!! Though I do think it's interesting he happened to keep the Ace of Hearts, even though he talked more about the Ace of Clubs before. I'm not sure it's actually this deep in reality, but I like to think that it's him not letting his championships(and the lack thereof) define him, but rather letting who he is as a person shine and be the centerpoint instead! But on a sadder note, as @suzuki-ecstar said to me, maybe the Aces aren't there anymore because he's lost all hope for a chance at a third Ace entirely :(

It was different because we hadn't gotten to the "crush zone" on the scale yet, but it was good!! I saw that you're already working on day 3, so I hope developing it goes fast for you!

Lucid Dreamer (2/2)

part 1

Gepard stalls almost a week before he finally goes out to the safehouse, and it takes him a couple days to find it because Sampo didn't have the time left to be wasn't super specific about the location. But he does find it.

It's pretty bare bones, really. Gepard knows that was probably to be expected, but… It feels crushing, when he realizes there are so few personal things here. It's nothing specific to Sampo. Just some food, some medical supplies. A cot and a heater and a lot of mismatched blankets. Nothing to remember someone by.

But he does find the letters, in a metal box stashed away under the bed.

There are two for him. Three for Natasha, and two for Seele. One for Hook, one for Serval, one for Pela, one for Bronya.

Bronya's is mostly business. They knew each other from the whole Stellaron incident, but not much beyond that, and the incoming catastrophe is a more pressing matter. Seele's is actually two copies of the same letter, and Gepard realizes why when Seele is so angry she rips the first one up without reading it. He gives her the copy a couple days later, and she slinks off without a word.

Pela seems completely normal after hers is delivered, but Gepard knows better than to trust that. The next day, he finds her asleep in bed with Serval, bottles abandoned on the floor, both their eye makeup smeared and running and Pela's glasses horribly smudged and crooked on her face. Serval doesn't read hers in front of him, but she's clingy with Gepard, Pela, and Lynx for quite a while after. She throws herself into her work a lot. She insists the heater from the safehouse is busted and she needs to keep it. It's too dangerous for use by someone who's not an engineer. Might burn their house down or something. Gepard doesn't argue.

Hook's letter is short, with easy to read words. The rest of it is actually a treasure map, and she and the moles spend the next several days running through the Underground, finding hidden candy and toys. Hook asks them when Sampo is coming back, because one of the marbles she found from his map looks green, just like his eyes, and she wants to give it to him. Natasha shoos Gepard out of the clinic before he can even begin to think of an answer.

Natasha refuses to let him see what's in her letters, which ok, fine, he'll respect that. He hears from Bronya who heard from Seele who heard from Natasha herself though that one of the letters was a map and the other a catalogue, with all of Sampo's hidden "warehouses." Gepard promptly marches himself back out to the frontlines, where he can turn a blind eye. If a ton of stolen goods suddenly enters the black market, and if the orphanage and the clinic suddenly have new supplies, well, technically that's none of his business.

Gepard goes to bed, curls up under mismatched blankets and closes his eyes.

He doesn't dream.

One of Gepard's letters was also business, like Bronya's and Natasha's. He and Bronya follow everything meticulously, down to the letter, because there has to be some good to get out of all this, there has to be. Gepard can't let it all be for nothing, it would bury him.

And so the catastrophe passes. Not without casualties, and not without a lot of damage and destruction. But Belobog survives.

And after that, time just kind of…goes on. Gepard has been a part of the Silvermanes since he was old enough to enlist. The Fragmentum had gotten so much worse in the years before Welt sealed the Stellaron. He knows the statistics, it is literally his and Pela's jobs to keep track. He knows when he sees a face everyday in the camps and then it's suddenly gone. He's not unfamiliar with things like grief and loss.

He still catches himself checking the trashcans and the supply crates and soldiers' footprints sometimes, though.

But there comes a night where Gepard goes to bed, holding the mismatched blankets to his face, and he dreams. And it's strange, it's off, it sticks with him. Sampo doesn't look the same. He's thinner. His muscles have atrophied. He looks like how Gepard has seen soldiers after months in the hospital.

The most unsettling difference is there's a scar across the left side of his head, Gepard can see it over his ear, peeking out past his hairline, carving towards his cheek. Sampo is always careful about his face. Gepard once saw him dodge a Fragmentum monster and literally let it cut across his neck just to keep his face clear. He wouldn't let that happen for nothing.

Their actions in the dream itself aren't new. Sampo seems tired, run down and worn out, but he announces his presence with aplomb by lobbing a bunch of smoke bombs off the rooftops and sending his soldiers scrambling. Same shit, different day.

The new part is what he says when Gepard chases him out to the edges of the camp, tackles him into the snow. Gepard pins him to the frozen ground to detain him and Sampo doesn't even fight it, just looks up at him like he's seeing sunrise for the first time in months.

"I'll be home in one week."

RAINCODE 4KOMA COMIC PROJECT

This is another project that I'm currently working on with @kazinsblog! We adore makoyuma and they're our number one faves.

So we decided to make a little 4koma style side special of Kazin's mini series "The Kanai Ward Case Files"

This intro is the only normal comic in this story.

Prologue: Flu season hits worldwide, and Makoto calls Yuma one day and gives him the warning. Yuma notices his congested voice so he wants to head to to Kanai Ward to check on him. But meanwhile, Yuma is trying his best to hold his cough as he talks on the line. Only to suffer the fit after Makoto hangs up. He isn't well either.

When Yuma arrives in Kanai Tower finding Makoto completely disheveled and passed out at his work desk, he ushers the stuffy CEO to bed. The two were shown pushing themselves while being sick alone. But now that they're together, these stubborn workaholics will finally rest and break from their duties in order to take care of each other. (for the most part anyway)

Of course since I'm involved in this project, they're obviously not going to be doing well... XD But this story is going to be a lot more fun and lighthearted than others I have written. (It's essentially written in a silly sick filler episode of a cartoon kind of vibe) meaning less whump, and more sick comfort and hilarity. There may be a few somewhat whumpy ones here and there (I can't resist) but it won't be as common.

Full Story Summary:

This RainCode fan side story revolves around slice of life comedy 4koma style strips with scenes of Yuma and Makoto being sick together and spending time with each other in Kanai Tower for about a week or two. They both have different halves of cold symptoms, Yuma with throat based, and Makoto with nasal based. (hence the title) Various cute and wacky stuff happen between the two and their bond grows stronger spending this time off together away from their duties as detective and CEO. They may be sick and miserable, but at least they're in it together! What could possibly go wrong?

The comic strips will be drawn by Kazin, but there will be some bonus art that the two of us will work on together (similar to the title which was a collab by us both)

Also, both of us agreed that these strips should be posted on my blog rather than Kazin's. Reason being is that this story is based on illness and my blog is half an illness blog so it makes more sense to share it to mine. You all likely expect this sort of thing from me at this point anyway… XD (I’m also the director so I write the descriptions of them.)

And this series will continue to be ongoing so long as Kazin and I have ideas. (we currently have almost 100 strips planned)

I will update this in separate posts whenever more strips get fully digitally drawn by Kazin whenever she can work on them. With the tag #kanaiwardcasefiles h&h. Some strips will be random, some will be two parters, and some will have a timeline or are connected to others.

We both hope you look forward to this project! There will be a lot of funny and cute moments between these two, so we hope you makoyuma enjoyers are excited!

Also bit of a fun fact: This was inspired by when my mother and I had covid late April 2024. Something similar happened to us, and we each had one cold-like symptom more than the other. (her with coughing and me with congestion) So I thought of this idea for these two!

I have thoughts qTubbo's death & qPhil's reaction to it

I think q!Phil just laughing it off was because he doesn't rly think of death for humans as permanent. immortal who spent most of his life around other immortals and with hazy memories from before the island -bc long life = memories fade- and that, plus he's seen Tubbo come back from worse than a squabble with Richas. so at first he sees Tubbo's body lying there and he like does a kick flip over it and tell other people with a laugh because qTubbo can just pick himself up, the guy is being dramatic. or so goes Phil's thought.

Also hes got this big romanic connection with death id we're consiering Kristen semi cannon and Missa being a reaper. Death isnt a thing that stops people from being and it certainly isnt perminant. its just like going into another room

It's the Steve Leaders!!!!!!!!!!

They're a dysfunctional family <3

Now, for lore :

3 out of the 7 leaders aren't actually Leaders yet. Before the main events presented in Sight of Color, there was a war that had broken out (caused by Favre), and the original Violet, Green, and Indigo Leaders had been killed.

Gerald (Green Steve), Vilos (Violet Steve), and Indi (Indigo Steve) were the previous Leaders assistants, but were sent to fill in the role for Leader, and haven't been officially appointed to such rank.

Roji (Red leader), Azul (Blue leader), and Yel (Yellow leader) are main leaders of the entirety of the Steve's, while Ora (Orange leader) was a kind of second in command until he refused the three main leaders plan of escaping the war.

Ora had already been butting heads with the main leaders, especially Roji and Azul. Originally, only one of the Leaders would wear a crown on top of their head that signified that their kingdom was the largest. That had been Roji's Red Kingdom. But Ora argued that Roji didn't even have a kingdom at that point as rebellions, takeovers, and declarations of independences had been plaguing the Red Kingdom.

Ora made his own crown to protest Roji and his severe lack of self-awareness and to proclaim that the Orange Kingdom was actually the largest.

One thing about Roji is that his eye injury was inflicted by Yel. Yel and Roji have a back and forth dynamic of being best buddy one moment and declaring nuclear war on each other the next. (Think Donald Trump and Kim Jon Un type relationship)

This was the cause for a lot of the tension between the Steves.

Some fun facts about the Leaders:

Azul is canonically homophobic.

I will not elaborate.

Vilos is an Ao3 author.

I will also not elaborate.

Indi likes to read human authored books with Gerald to distract themselves from the other leaders arguing in the other room.

Roji has had a son, who died in the war.

When Ora had met Favre, he started missing meetings with the Leaders in Favor (haha get it?) Of going on adventures with Favre and learning more about humans and human culture.

Vilos, Gerald, and Indi all have sleepovers with each other (and sometimes invite Ora) when they get tired of dealing with the other leaders.

Yel is an alcoholic.
