Thinking about all the things people say Moby Dick is about and the time I went to a poetry reading at my library and an older man read an (appropriately really long) poem about marathon reading Moby Dick in like 2 days in college for an assignment. It was really neat because he drew a lot of connections to things that never would have occurred to me to say that Moby Dick was “about” - the Vietnam war, civil rights, other things that happened to his friends or himself that were completely foreign experiences to me, but my immediate thought was “This guy GETS it.” Because Moby Dick is, first and foremost, about whatever happens to be going on in your life at the time when you read it. After that it’s about grief.

This was my first Shattered Star. I had no pattern, just a photo I mathed out a design for, and a ton of issues that I had to work through.

I learned a lot about formulating patterns from photos doing this.

The fun final border I used some left over scraps to do the ombre flying geese and it turned out just lovely. This quilt came in at about 80” square I believe.

This was before I knew how to run the long arm, so a friend spent eight hours babying this sucker on the machine for me to get that intricate snowflake pattern. I love how it shows up on the minky back.

Two Loons, 2023

A baby quilt I made for a friend. I learned a lot making this.

The message around the border is encoded in 5-bit binary and reads clockwise, "I AM BUT 2 DAYS OLD INFANT JOY", minus most spaces.

15x15 inches, this beautiful little mini quilt is made using a yellow print with iridescent moons and a rich blue print with metallic gold stars, machine quilted with a variegated blue thread. An excellent addition for the lover of celestial themes! It can serve well as a wallhanging for a pin collection, used for tarot cards, serve as an altar item, a small placemat, table decoration for a space that needs it, or whatever else tickles your fancy.

Table runner/wall banner for christmas.

Oh man. Oh boy. I did this without a pattern and just made a bunch of squares and cut them in half to put the ribbon in and then tried to put the bow on top and make all of them the same length…

Not doing this again without a written pattern. Even if I’m the one that needs to write it. (Which i don’t have to because i’m sure someone out there has already done it)

I quilted it in red so you could see the big hearts in the silver background, but it did make the runner very busy. I would use silver next time.

Continuing the "I can't believe I never posted this here" series, back in early 2017 my default baby gift was crocheted baby converse and I've always liked making monsters, which led to this photo that I think looks like a very dramatic start to a quest
