To be a stage manager you literally need to learn every aspect of theater. You are the buck. It stops with you bc the director is the big man and you shouldn't ask the big man silly questions.
I was trained in fly systems, lighting programs, sound programs, basic wardrobe, tech, writing, directing, stage fighting, etc.
I had to learn almost everything so that I had the answers to everything and kept a show running. Sound malfunctioning? I have a Playlist on my computer plug it in and go. Fly isn't working? Get this specific person to help. An actor isn't on time? I'm calling them right now. Audience members are fucking around on the stage? Yeah I got it. Opening and closing the building, a report sent to specific higher ups every night to outline what went well and what didn't, what actors caused issues if any, if we need more supplies and when we can expect that delivery, etc.
And outside of theater??? My degree has gotten me jobs. Bc theater people are multifaceted. We are trained to read people, we can grift super easy which is great for selling and customer service bc it means we can convince someone they want something. We're loved by call centers because we get training in speech and how to enunciated and dictate. Managerial positions are great for us. We know how to time manage, we can project our voices loud and far to keep people informed in events or situations. We think on our feet. We easily come up with creative solutions.
Anyone who says a theater degree is useless can go sit In a padded cell in silence for a week and then see just how valuable we are to society. Theater degrees go beyond shows, they are useful in many industries. My job liked my voice over the phone and was ready to hire me on the spot bc I had a clear voice and a cheery disposition that was perfect for a receptionist, I learned how to control my voice in theater.
I have a BFA in Theatre Studies with a focus on Management and Creative Writing
Never will I think it was money wasted
But I still think student debt deserves to be forgiven, especially as it cripples so many people decades into their lives.
People love consuming the arts, but many hate the training required to create the arts. Not every art degree is created equal, but the connections you make and the experience you gain can be invaluable.
I'm not saying every artist needs a college degree for every aspect of creating art, but art is not always created solely by performers.
Perhaps there is an actor who was self taught and got a lucky break, but the cinematographer capturing that actor needed years of training. They are literally camera scientists AND visual artists.
Maybe that punk band you love only knows four chords and just screams into a microphone, but the sound engineer recording their music probably has a college degree.
Here is a video of the sound engineer for a Hamilton production.
youtube
He uses an amazing blend of technical and artistic skills to make sure the show sounds perfect during every performance.
Check out his college degree...

i know a lot of people tend to define dani/ellie's "obsession" as the ocean to go with danny's space obsession but tbh i feel like as dani gets older she's going to do a lot to separate herself from her identity as danny's "clone" and become her own person
like, that's why i love that the fandom has adopted the "ellie" nickname so much for her. i so wish the show went on for longer with more competent writers or the comic could expand on this maybe but i think finding her own identity and voice would be such a powerful narrative. you're made for one thing but you don't wanna do that, so now what do you do?
(tbh that kind of identity exploration is probably too anit-christian for b*tch h*rtman so i'm glad he didn't get to touch it)
it's canon that dani goes off and travels the world, so why not have her obsession be traveling? she's got a huge case of wanderlust. she likes the outdoors, she likes hiking and camping and is a huge granola girl. like, i think that kinda just fits her a bit more, in my opinion. traveling/exploration.
#danny phantom#dani phantom#ellie phantom#ominous posts#i have a lot more ideas for an aged up everlasting trio too#like college ages#i think sam would dual major in polisci and environmental studies. activist queen#tucker would definitely be computer science but i can also see him being a theater or history kid#danny? i love the idea of him being the black sheep/artist of his family of scientists#but i think he would go for some sort of aerospace engineering obviously.#if he can't be an astronaut because of health reasons/the accident then at least he can help people get up there#though danny becoming NASA's social media manager would also be hilarious. Communications Major Danny?#that's my mass comm degree bias coming through haha#valerie ends up a part of their group at some point and she majors in physical health/exercise#college au? i guess??#cool egde au

I write a sort of hybrid third/first person POV. Some people aren't a fan of that, and I get why. But I enjoy it. I like the sort of dissociation of it, the intimate detachment. And since I have multiple POVs in a story, I enjoy having a seemingly "objective" narrative structure change depending on who has the reigns.
In Songbird Elegies, for instance, two characters can have a drastically varied awareness of people around them. Scott Skylark Kafuner, the literal empath with a degree in behavioral sciences who went years unable to see human faces and is absolutely making up for lost time, will pick up on a micro-expression anyone else might completely ignore.
Compare this to his sister Tenzin. Tenzin is incredibly intelligent, strong, quick-witted and resourceful. She is also the kind of person who, if you don't directly say what you're feeling out loud, will just have no goddamned clue what your vibe is. No idea. Are you sleepy? Is that what's happening?
#writeblr#on writing#songbird elegiess#if scott went back to school for like two more years he could easily become a psychologist#i don't think he realizes he has an actual college degree#because it was online#i also know he wouldn't want to#he never wanted to#meanwhile tenzin just didn't go to school#although i'm debating her taking acting classes and eventually joining a theater company#i don't know why

(unpopular opinion, I know, but) swords and knives made it a much better movie than sex would have. I get it if you disagree but it was pitch-perfect to me
#deadpool and wolverine#deadpool#wolverine#look the thing is.#it was all the right amount of silly to poignant to gross to comedic. the right amount of action the right degree of gory#I felt like it was a masterpiece bc I felt like they hit every note they meant to#they were singing that whole movie#is it the movie I would have made?#not remotely#it was totally different and considerably better#weirder in a number of ways#but I thought more than sufficiently homoerotic tbh#and they were a surprisingly good team ✨❤️ I loved the movie and I just don't agree#that changing their relationship in any direction would have improved it#I felt fed and hydrated leaving the theater.#this is like trying to tell people that it's better Frodo and Sam aren't together-together because this way they Are Many Things at once.#their eyes have glazed over and you realize you're just going to disagree on this.#because you are different readers/viewers and individualized experiences and persepectives are part the beauty of books; film; etc.

i offhandedly mentioned having seen a movie from the 2000s to my friend and she was genuinely flabbergasted because she thought i “only watched old movies”
#i was like GIRL THE SECOND TO LAST FILM I WATCHED WAS FROM *THIS YEAR*!!!!!!!!#she was SHOCKED#just for that i watched ANOTHER film from this year bc i MUST beat the allegations#i tried to explain The List to her and how i break it up by decade and have intentionally tried to diversity what i watch#and TO BE FAIR to me#the films i have shown her so far have been from the 90s 60s and 40s#which is a BIG range if i do say so myself#like. sorry we haven’t watched any current films together…#you literally LIVE in a building with a theater in it#FIGURE IT OUT#seriously tho i am so grateful to have someone who will watch films with me#i ordered Citizen Kane on Blu-ray so we can watch it together#bc she told this CRAZY story about her shitty ex#and in the back of my head i was like ‘you KNOW what this reminds me of…’#so i intentionally waited to offer to show it to her until we were past the breakup situation#but NOW i am hype#and she is hype#and to be fair that’s probably why she thinks i only watch old movies#but it’s not even old to me#like. if it has sound it’s not old…#i’m gonna have SO much fun in my intro to film history class if i get to take it#my goal is to have already seen every film they discuss in the class so that i can just chill out and enjoy it#the final project is comparing and contrasting two films of your choice and i’m still figuring out what i want to do#excited regardless tho#i’m taking it my last semester as a treat for finishing my degree <33

Generally, in our crossover posts, we use only one or two characters to be transported.
But what about a whole team?
Like (using our version) Tfa Megatron, blitzwing, lugnut, BA, Shockwave, starscream, blurr, jetfire and jetstorm going to Tfp and meeting the Tfp decepticons?
I mean. They'd all probably die, knowing this group's penchant for mischief and shenanigans and TFP's Megatron's unwillingness to put up with any bs that isn't his and Starscream's weird bdsm foreplay
So lemme turn it around on you and ask, how do you feel about TFP being crossed over with itself >:) everyone gets a surprise twin from another dimension that looks exactly like them, but they're from shattered glass. Evil autobots pretending to be good in order to dupe their counterparts, and goodie two shoes decepticons trying sooo hard to be mean and evil while being laughably bad it
#shattered glass#cross dimensional shenanigans#shattered glass Megatron has a degree in theater and is surprisingly good at improvised evil monologues#but he sees ONE (1) vehicon fall down and runs over to help them up and the ruse is immediately broken
