When people say “Let's go get milk tea." nowadays it generally refers to getting some sort of beverage. It is not just limited to milk tea, but it could also refers to fruit tea, fruit juice, milk shakes, yogurts or even coffee. The most popular drink is Mixue��s lemon tea or bubble tea because they are generally the cheapest. Bubble tea with boba are not as common nowadays because I think they are not trendy anymore.

In the cities and especially around shopping districts, there are beverage shops in every corner. Competition is high so instead of coming out with new drinks frequently, accessories such as delivery bags, cup sleeves, straw wrappings and toys are released to stimulate purchase. As a result, there grows collectors who collects those limited release.

A word of caution:

This is a consumerism trap.

Milk tea are not healthy. Sugar is added when they are making the tea concentrate so even “no-added sugar” option does not guarantee no additional sugar in your tea.

Milk tea are highly caffeinated, sometimes even more than coffee.

Flooat Studio x kamipaper UPCYCLED I Bookbinding Workshop - workshop

An upcycled bookbinding and weaving workshop in collaboration with Flooat Studio. Participants were welcomed into the space with a cup of healthy tea by Flooat Studio and Malaysian sweet treats by Sueperlicious. Participants then sifted through the collection of sweet wrappers that kamipaper had collected, to choose wrappers that they wanted to weave onto their mini notebook covers. Participants were also encouraged to bring wrappers that they would like to incorporate onto their covers, whether nostalgic or from their cultures. After weaving the selected wrappers onto their covers, we then made a mini coptic bound notebook together that the participants got to take home.

This collaboration came together as we wanted to have a workshop that could be therapeutic, meditative and to slow down especially as city life can be so fast moving. It was also a way to engage everyone to converse with their neighbours and have thoughtful conversations during the workshop.

It was the first time for me to showcase this workshop using upcycled sweet wrappers combined with coptic binding, thanking Flooat Studio for suggesting I teach a workshop like this and for being so encouraging and supportive during the preparation and actual workshop. I broke my phone case a while ago (I'm v hard on my objects) & repaired it badly with some plastic bond that didn't quite work and I never sanded down. Been in a really awful place lately and realized part of that was all these little moments of self shaming over and over again, and one of them was this awfully repaired phone case (complete w the whole front "screen" (plastic protector) of my phone being shattered to pieces). Gonna do more internal work on the self shaming & comparing, but I realized there's also little things I can do Now to help stop that voice. Like fixing my phone.

I replaced the screen protector with carefully cut & applied clear packing tape, and redid the repairs to the phone case (super glue and sandpaper) while painting it to look better than ever! No before pics, but it was solid black with a washed out frog-that-used-to-be-nb-pride-flag sticker and yellow plastic bond in the cracks. Now it's THIS!

Inspired by a post I saw the other day about dandelions containing the sun, moon, And stars in all its phases. And the hope dandelions bring to this disabled queer trying to survive in a broken system.

I'm downsizing my DVD collection. This doesn't involve actually getting rid of anything except the cases, for which I'm making my own smaller replacements out of cardboard.

A magazine cover and an old mail order book catalogue have been repurposed as cases for the two discs of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the 2001 movie).

Blurb for disc 1 reads:

Ignore the upside down legs o' Legolas and concentrate on the fact that "Orlando Bloom" is an anagram of "Adm. Bono O'Rilo", who was my commanding officer in the Made Up Names Navy
