🪱🪰💖FRIEND TO BUGS✨🐛🪲
first time ever printing on shirts!! ngl i really procrastinated doing this because i was worried it wouldn’t turn out, but when took the block off of the first shirt i was ECSTATIC!! im SO happy with how these turned out, and proud of myself for printing exclusively on thrifted shirts! specifically from the goodwill bins, so all of these were on their last stop before going to the landfill. i’m excited to keep printing this design on more shirts (and another secret thing i have planned >:3), and to print another design that’s currently in the works!!

things you should make instead of buy pt1
changing the world one step at a time, start by making items instead of buying new ones
long skirts → for jean skirts use old pants, use scraps or ties for patchwork skirts or old curtains for normal ones

Realized that I have a lot of winter punk gear-jackets, pants, beanies, etc.
But nothing really good to wear for summer!
So I grabbed a pair of my mom’s old work pants she let me have and decided to make some fun shorts!
I wish they were more high waisted but I’ve never extended the crotch of something and tbh that sounds abysmal to accomplish.
Sorry about the big splotch on my mirror, It looks like tape residue which, who tf was taping things to an antique mirror?? Anyway it’s not coming off easily so. Deal with it
Details about creation below the cut:
So I cut them to just below mid thigh and used one of the remaining legs to create the side panels, I cut them into triangles and inserted them into a cut along the side seam (in hindsight I really didn’t need to cut through the waistband at all but I already did one side by the time I figured that out so I kept it consistent)
Then I tried them on, realized the panels weren’t flaring like I wanted them to and the part around the butt still sagged weirdly and added two more panels to correct this, smaller triangles in the center of the front and back of each leg to create the wide flare leg I wanted (cause it’s way more comfortable)
The striped fabric is a flat sheet from a bed set I was given for Christmas
The studs on the pockets were just standard craft studs from a sewing store and there’s only three on each back pocket because I ran out
Probably gonna try to bulk buy thrm online next time because they came in a really small package
The tiny safety pins were from the dollar store, don’t recommend paying money for those they’re really pathetic and weak.
The flag pin I painted myself from some old set my dad had, the pin underneath I got for free at a college club fair and the picture is a ribbon that says “I survived talking to my family about politics”
Planning on adding a patch or two, I have some nice ones from Etsy coming in the mail and Ill update the post when those get here!
In all this took like… 3-4 hours? And I haven’t gone over the seams again to keep the sheet fabric from fraying but that shouldn’t take long I just got hungry and tried and my hands hurt so I’m done for the day.

So can you get diseases or bedbugs from picking up pieces of clothing you find abandoned in the wild while just walking around town? Is there like a process for de-bugging and disinfecting them that goes beyond just tossing them in the wash, maybe with some bleach? Is it at all unadviseable? Is this a thing people do?
I see like 5 abandoned jackets, hoodies, work gloves, hats, you name it, every time I go for a walk (meth town, dumping your shit in random parking lots is the norm around here apparently), and I always just think "man, like 90% of this stuff just needs dried up and cleaned and it would be perfectly good, or at the very least could be scrapped for materials. Feels like an awful waste to just leave them to rot." But at the same time, I am paranoid about bedbugs (you'd be stupid not to be ngl).
Any advice? I'm of course not talking about stealing obviously lost hats or mittens, those I prop up in obvious areas near where I found them, as is considered polite. I'm talking about jackets found by dumpsters or on the curb. Stuff that was clearly discarded.

Some stuff I made over the last 3 day! I have a stack of old sweatshirts and graphic tees and I need to get through my box of sewing projects so HERE WE ARE.
Had an old sweatshirt that the sleeves were totally falling apart so I cut those off and replaced them with the legs of an old pair of sweatpants I had and I added the front of my old Rocky Horror Picture Show shirt from when I was 16.
Then we got a new pair of comfy shorts from two old sweatshirts I didn't wear anymore.
And then the project that drove me a little insane, I made myself a pair of flaired pants from old graphic tees. A few of the shirts were falling apart so it's kind of a patch-work in progress whenever I put them on and my ass decides to tear a new hole in them lol

By the way I’m doing a story sale over on insta today so peep that if you’re interested in some of my hand printed clothing. Anything left is coming with me to local markets this autumn so it’s probably the only time I’ll have these pieces available to be shipped!!
