Grateful Dead are 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year
- “That’s pretty far out. And extraordinary,” Bill Kreutzmann says
Grateful Dead are the 2025 MusiCares persons of the year.
The late Jerry Garcia and living Dead men Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will receive the honor Jan. 31 in Los Angeles with a tribute concert featuring “renowned musicians and other artists,” under the musical direction of Weir’s Wolf Bro Don Was.
“Their legacy transcends music, having built a community of fans and collaborators that embody the spirit of connection and support, something that is deeply aligned with MusiCares’ mission,” executive director Laura Segura said in a statement that mentioned the Dead’s Rex Foundation, Lesh’s Unbroken Chain Foundation, Kreutzmann’s ocean-conservation efforts, Hart’s interest in music therapy and brain health and Weir’s advocacy in defeating poverty and addressing climate change.
“As our ol’ pal, Jerry, used to say, ‘You get some, you give some back,’ a tremendously effective way to share those benefits,” the four said in a statement.
Kreutzmann views the MusiCares honor as a continuation of the Dead’s long strange trip that began in 1965.
“That’s pretty far out,” he said in a statement. “And extraordinary.”
On rhetoric cusp of its 60th anniversary, the band is also slated to revived Kennedy Center honors in December 2024.

So, hey, I apologize for poking at the definitions of your field, but.
Like, you mentioned that while Crimson Avenger is "officially" the first superhero, some in your field argue that legendary gunfighters such as Jonah hex also qualify.
But, like...why stop there? What about people like Jon Valor or Tomahawk?
What about the Knights of the Round Table? I mean, Shining Knight has been confirmed to be a member of that group, hasn't he?
Oh boy, well have you got a week and the ability to film a bunch of scholars getting into fist fights?
The definition of "superhero" is porous at best, and its a rather new term. We only call them "superheroes" in regular conversation BECAUSE of the appearance of Superman acting as the representative for the movement.
Famously, back in the "Golden Age' of WWII they were most often known as "Mystery Men".
Before then, America famously had a rash of "cowboy" heroes who are usually referred to academically as "Gunslingers" or "Lawmen"
(A mural of many famous western heroes painted on the wall of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City)
Many of them, even those who weren't masked would fit the modern definitions of superheroes because they fought injustice using specific names and motifs. Bat Lash, El Diablo, Pow Wow Smith, etc.
I already did a little write up on the Black Pirate but you mentioned Tom Hawk, AKA Tomahawk, a famous frontiersman who served both during and after the Revolutionary War alongside who is probably the first MASKED hero in American history. Bess Lynn AKA Miss Liberty
(A mural of Miss Liberty, the original is hung up at the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia but others versions are commonly copied. We have one here at the Perisphere)
The Knights of the Round would certainly have been considered the superheroes of their day! And in the case of Sir Justin, ours! Really to dig into the question that you're driving at, the reason the Lee Travis is considered the "shot heard round the world" for the superheroes that exist now is because the chain of legacy he started is still unbroken. He took to the streets in 1938 because he saw people suffering and decided he wouldn't stand by for it.
He was joined by the Sandman, unveiling themselves to the world. Both men joined wartime superhero groups, the Justice Society eventually serving as moral and inspiration foundation for our modern Justice League. Said League still uses the original cloak, hat and mask of the Crimson Avenger to swear in its new members.
The wave that Lee Travis started has not ended. There is no end of the old west, there is no fall of camelot. He broke the ribbon on the new world and we are still living in it.

"Poetry in Motion" by Jay Kwellyn beat by OrenjiSoul
My name is poetry in motion I’m a collection of rambling thoughts and spoken words inspired by smokin herbs and unlimited devotion life has no filter I can see through the minutia The cold locomotion of this broken machine that stays unbroken The gears keep turning and the loops in the chain keep choking till they snap and get replaced all in the same day
In this ocean of pain I’m a storytellers nightmare So precise with my shots the limelight shatters In a few words What does a dime look like and what does it matter What’s the retail price on a girl who can mix sugar and spice to make bread dough while you bitches lucky just to make batter Over here we rise tho Built on a foundation we poured ourselves I chose my own name I ain’t need no help I cried a river of pain and got lost up the stream with no paddle Found my way up the bank where some people had gathered So colorful against the black and white backdrop Oh how did they sway? To and fro like leaves in the wind Freedom personified I took a breath through my skin for the first time I Took a step in the right shoes for the first time I Looked suicide in the face for the first time I Stop moving through this space with no direction Cuz now this poem has somewhere to go

An Empire of Longing
In the vast, crumbling halls of my heart, these men stand like monuments, statues etched in stone, each one a chapter, each a city in this empire I cannot escape, the Holy Roman Empire of my wanting, sprawling across the ruins of memory and desire, a kingdom I rule, yet am ruled by, and I walk its corridors, yearning for peace, searching for a resolution that eludes me.
Samuel, he is the distant emperor, the one who left his throne cold and empty, a figure wrapped in silence, his absence an edit I cannot disobey. He took the scroll of my trust and tore it, leaving decrees of silence and unanswered questions. He is the shadow of a king, a leader who vanished without a word, and I am left, his loyal subject, kneeling in the dust, praying to a name that no longer holds meaning. His silence presses heavy like chain mail on my chest, and yet I cannot forget the way his gaze once held kingdoms.
Kyle, he is the knight I watch from afar, broad-shouldered, strong, with a banner of kindness, being a loyalty that belongs to another kingdom, to his wife, to his children, his chosen kin. He strides through the halls of my mind, armor gleaming, noble and warm, yet beyond my reach, always just out of sight. I am but a humble scribe, writing odes to his virtue, recording each word he offers me in passing, as if his kindness could be mine. But I know he will never be swayed, and my loyalty is foolish, a pennant flapping in the wind.
Jacob, he is the baron who brought me in from the cold, opened the gates of friendship, only to brush my lips with a promise of something more, a whisper that I cling to even now. He is the court's most valued friend, a bond forged in fire, yet bound in chains, our friendship heavy with shared touch and stolen glances. He gave me hope but not his heart, a castle with no key, and I find myself wandering its empty chambers, dreaming of a future he does not want to build, though I'd carve out an entire promise for him if he'd only ask.
Troy, he is the rogue, the usurper, a figure who swept through my gates with charm and treachery alike, a friend who turned blade into my soul, disassembled the foundations, left me questioning every stone I'd laid, and I still taste his betrayal like blood on my tongue. Yet I cannot purge this memory, for he was fire and fury, the spark that lit the walls only to leave them blacked and charred.
Mark, He is the wise old councilor, the man with said and pepper hair, the only whose worlds feel like scripture, gentle yet firm, like ancient law. He was the hope I held close, the ender statesman of my heart, a man of kindness that filled these halls with light. But he is reserved, a tower I cannot climb, his walls thick with duty to another, and though I long to drink from his wisdom, to feel his warmth of my own, he remains distant, a beacon on a hill, unmoving, a guide but never a promise.
Liam, he is the court jester, the playful knight who took my heart and made light of its weight, a laugh echoing in hollow chambers, his touch both a comfort and a cruelty. He flayed my heart in jest, a careless lover with a sword too sharp, a friend who swore loyalty yet left without a second thought His laughter still haunts these halls, a mocking tune in the court of my mind, and I curse the day I let him in, yet miss the warmth he carried like a torch of darkness.
And I, I am the prince of this empire, its ruler and prisoner, longing for peace in a kingdom of ghosts. I yearn for resolve, for a council of hearts, to sit them all down, to ask why they linger here, why their specters haunt these chambers, why their laugher and lies echo through my soul. But the empire stretches on, each memory a province, each kiss a law unbroken, and I wonder if peace will e're come., if I will ever feel whole.
In this holy empire of broken promises, I walk alone, burdened by the weight of them, these men who ruled my heart like kings, who plundered its treasure and left it barren. As I wander, I might feel release, that the empire might dissolve, that my heart, weary and worn, might find its own crown, its own peace, free from the rule of longing and the ghosts of men who ne'er stayed.

What is Cryptocurrency? Comprehensive Guide to Understanding Digital Currency
Mastering Cryptocurrencies: A Comprehensive Guide
Cryptocurrency is a complex but exciting topic. Think of it as digital money. It works differently from regular money. In this guide, we’ll keep it simple. You’ll learn what cryptocurrency is. We’ll explain how it works. You’ll see why it matters.
Defining Cryptocurrency
Also known as virtual currencies, cryptocurrencies can be used to purchase goods and services or as an investment. Transactions occur online, making them fast and borderless.
As of August 2024, the global cryptocurrency market capitalization is approximately $1.2 trillion, a significant decrease of 14.4% from the beginning of the year due to market fluctuations.
Understanding Cryptocurrency Fundamentals
Cryptocurrency is a type of digital asset. It operates on a decentralized network, meaning no single entity controls it. Instead, these digital currencies rely on a distributed network of computers. This network uses peer-to-peer technology to facilitate transactions.
The first cryptocurrency was Bitcoin, created in 2009 by an anonymous individual or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin was designed as a peer-to-peer electronic payment system that doesn’t require banks. This groundbreaking concept sparked the development of numerous other cryptocurrencies, commonly referred to as altcoins.
Cryptocurrencies are stored in digital wallets, specialized software designed to secure your digital funds. When you want to spend or transfer cryptocurrency, your wallet digitally signs the transaction.
The Mechanics of Crypto
Cryptocurrencies operate through a technological framework known as blockchain. A blockchain is a decentralized ledger — a digital record of transactions. This ledger is shared across a network of computers called nodes. When a transaction occurs, it is added to the blockchain as a new block.
Each block contains a list of transactions. Once a block is full, it is linked to the previous one, forming a chain. Hence, the term blockchain. This chain continues to grow as more transactions take place.
Cryptography plays a crucial role in securing the blockchain. Cryptography acts as a secret code that ensures that only the rightful owner of the cryptocurrency can use it. This greatly increases the security of cryptocurrencies.
Mining is another vital component of cryptocurrency operations. Miners are computers tasked with solving complex mathematical problems. When a problem is solved, a new block is added to the blockchain, and miners are rewarded with newly created cryptocurrency.
Transactions within the cryptocurrency ecosystem are validated through a consensus mechanism. This means that the network of computers must agree on the validity of a transaction before it is added to the blockchain.
This process ensures the integrity of the system. In the second quarter of 2024, centralised exchanges recorded a total spot trading volume of $3.4 trillion, down 12.2% from the previous quarter.
Blockchain: The Backbone of Crypto
Blockchain is the foundational technology behind cryptocurrency. It is a decentralized ledger that records all transactions. Think of it as a digital notebook that everyone can see, but no one can change.
Each transaction on the blockchain is logged in a block. Blocks are like pages in this digital notebook. When a block is full, it’s connected to the previous block, forming an unbroken chain of blocks — the blockchain.
The blockchain is not centralized, but distributed across many computers around the world. These computers, or nodes, work together to maintain the blockchain. Its decentralized nature enhances the security of the blockchain, ensuring that no single entity can alter the information within the blocks without being detected.
Data integrity is a critical aspect of blockchain technology. This means that once data is recorded on the blockchain, it cannot be changed. This feature makes the blockchain highly reliable.
As of August 2024, Solana’s blockchain has experienced a significant increase in activity, with its price rising by 30.5%, driven by an 18.2% surge in daily transactions.
Cryptography: The Protector of Cryptocurrency
Cryptography is the science dedicated to securing information. In the world of cryptocurrency, it plays an essential role. Two primary cryptographic techniques are used: public key cryptography and hashing.
Public key cryptography involves the use of two keys: a public key and a private key. The public key is like an email address — you can share it freely. The private key, however, is like a password — it must be kept confidential. When sending cryptocurrency, the private key is used to sign the transaction. The receiver’s public key ensures the transaction is legitimate.
Hashing is another cryptographic technique. It converts information into a fixed-length string of characters. This string is unique to the original data, much like a fingerprint. Hashing plays a crucial role in securing transactions on the blockchain.
Varieties of Cryptocurrency
Bitcoin: The Pioneer
Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency to emerge and remains the most recognized. It was developed in 2009 by an enigmatic individual or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin introduced the groundbreaking concept of a decentralized digital currency. It operates on a blockchain that records all transactions involving Bitcoin.
Bitcoin, often referred to by its ticker symbol BTC, has a finite supply — only 21 million Bitcoins will ever exist. This scarcity contributes to its value. Many individuals invest in Bitcoin, expecting its value to increase over time.
The creation of Bitcoin paved the way for the development of other cryptocurrencies.
Beyond Bitcoin — Altcoins
Altcoins are any cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. The term “altcoin” is short for “alternative coin.” Thousands of altcoins exist, each offering distinct features.
Ethereum (ETH): Ethereum is more than just a cryptocurrency; it’s a platform for developing decentralized applications (DApps). Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum facilitates the creation of smart contracts — self-executing agreements with the terms directly in code.
Ripple (XRP): Ripple focuses on streamlining cross-border payments through its digital payment protocol, rather than its cryptocurrency XRP. It’s particularly favored by financial institutions.
Litecoin (LTC): Often considered the silver to Bitcoin’s gold, Litecoin was created to facilitate faster and cheaper transactions. It employs a different mining algorithm, making transactions quicker to confirm.
Cardano (ADA): Cardano is a blockchain platform that aims to provide a more secure and scalable way to transfer digital value. It was developed by Charles Hoskinson, one of the co-founders of Ethereum.
Polkadot (DOT): Polkadot enables multiple blockchains to connect and exchange information. This interoperability enhances collaboration across different blockchains.
Altcoins offer various functionalities, making them appealing for different use cases. Some are faster than Bitcoin, while others provide additional features like smart contracts.
Stablecoins: Stability in a Volatile Market
Stablecoins are a unique category of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable value. They are often pegged to a stable asset, such as the US dollar. This stability makes them practical for everyday transactions, unlike other cryptocurrencies that can exhibit extreme price volatility.
Tether (USDT): Tether is one of the most widely used stablecoins. It is pegged to the US dollar, meaning 1 USDT typically equals 1 USD.
USD Coin (USDC): Another popular stablecoin, USDC, is also pegged to the US dollar and is extensively used within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Stablecoins offer the benefits of cryptocurrency — fast transactions and minimal fees — without the risks associated with price volatility. In 2024, stablecoins will remain an important part of the crypto ecosystem, with continued demand even amidst market instability.
Utility Tokens: Accessing Digital Services
Utility tokens represent a category of cryptocurrency that provides access to a product or service within a specific platform.
For example, Binance Coin (BNB) is a utility token used on the Binance cryptocurrency exchange. Users can use BNB to pay for transaction fees at a reduced rate. Utility tokens are not primarily investment vehicles but are designed to grant access to services.
Security Tokens: Digital Assets with Real-World Value
Security tokens represent an investment in a tangible asset, such as company shares or real estate. Due to their nature, they are subject to regulatory scrutiny, as they are considered securities.
For example, a company may issue security tokens that represent ownership of the company. These tokens often come with rights, such as dividends or voting rights.
Security tokens differ from utility tokens in that they represent ownership rather than just access to services.
Acquiring Cryptocurrency: A Step-by-Step Guide
Choosing a Cryptocurrency Exchange
Сryptocurrency exchanges are digital marketplaces where you can buy and sell cryptocurrencies. With numerous options available, each exchange has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Binance: One of the largest and most diverse exchanges, offering a broad range of cryptocurrencies with competitive fees. As of 2024, Binance remains the leading centralized exchange, commanding 45% of the market share.
Coinbase: Known for its user-friendly interface, Coinbase is particularly popular among newcomers. It offers a simple, secure platform for buying and selling cryptocurrencies.
Kraken: A well-established exchange that prioritizes security, Kraken offers a wide selection of cryptocurrencies and advanced trading features.
When choosing an exchange, consider factors such as security, fees and the range of cryptocurrencies available. Some exchanges are designed for beginners, while others are more suitable for experienced traders.
Safeguarding Your Cryptocurrency: Digital Wallets
A digital wallet is a tool that stores your cryptocurrencies. There are different types of wallets, each offering unique security features.
Hardware Wallets: These physical devices store your cryptocurrencies offline, making them highly secure against online threats. In 2024, devices like Ledger and Trezor remain top choices for those seeking maximum security.
Software Wallets: These applications store your cryptocurrency online. While convenient, they are more vulnerable to hacking compared to hardware wallets. Popular options include MetaMask and Trust Wallet.
Paper Wallets: These are printed documents that contain your public and private keys. While they are immune to online hacking, they need to be stored securely to prevent physical theft.
Choosing the right wallet depends on your security needs. Hardware wallets offer the highest level of protection at a higher cost, while software wallets offer convenience with some security compromises.
Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency regulation varies significantly across different regions. In some countries, it is fully legal and regulated, while in others, it faces restrictions or outright bans.
United States: In the US, cryptocurrency is legal but regulated. The IRS classifies it as property for tax purposes. Different states have their own regulatory frameworks, with Wyoming known for its favorable crypto laws, while New York’s BitLicense imposes stricter requirements on exchanges.
Europe: The European Union is gradually developing a unified regulatory framework for cryptocurrency. Countries like Germany and Switzerland have clear regulations, while others are still in the process of establishing their guidelines.
Asia: The legal status of cryptocurrency in Asia varies widely. Japan is recognized for its crypto-friendly regulations, whereas China has banned most cryptocurrency-related activities. India is still working on a clear regulatory framework for digital assets.
Regulatory Bodies and Compliance
Several regulatory bodies oversee the cryptocurrency industry to ensure its legal and safe use.
SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission): In the United States, the SEC regulates securities, including certain types of cryptocurrency activity, particularly those involving initial coin offerings (ICOs).
FCA (Financial Conduct Authority): The FCA regulates financial markets in the UK. It provides guidance to cryptocurrency businesses to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) laws.
FINMA (Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority): FINMA regulates Switzerland’s financial markets, which are among the most crypto-friendly in the world. It provides clear regulatory guidance for cryptocurrency businesses.
Cryptocurrency Safety and Risk Mitigation
Here are some best practices to keep in mind:
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Attackers are increasingly using sophisticated methods such as phishing and impersonation to gain unauthorized access to accounts. In 2024, security experts advocate non-phishable multifactor authentication (MFA) solutions, such as hardware tokens like Yubikeys, which offer stronger protection than traditional SMS-based 2FA.
Use Cold Storage: In 2022, cryptocurrency companies will lose approximately $3.8 billion to hacks, with DeFi protocols being the most vulnerable. Despite a slight decrease in hacking incidents in 2023, the risk remains significant, and offline cold wallets provide an important layer of security by protecting private keys from online threats.
Create Strong Passwords: The increased use of generative AI in 2024 has made it easier for attackers to create convincing phishing attempts, making it even more important to avoid password reuse and rely on password managers to securely manage complex passwords.
Understanding the Risks: Common Challenges
Investing in cryptocurrency comes with its risks. Here are some of the most common ones:
Hacks: Bad guys on the internet love to steal digital money. In 2024, they took over $14 billion by hacking into online wallets and exchanges. So, it’s important to keep your money safe!
Scams: Sometimes people pretend to be your friend online, but they are just trying to trick you. They might tell you about a cool way to make a lot of money fast, but it’s a lie. Be wary of anything that sounds too good to be true!
Volatility: Cryptocurrency prices go up and down very quickly, like a rollercoaster. For example, the price of Bitcoin went from $30,000 to $72,000 in just a few months. This means you could make a lot of money or lose a lot of money very quickly.
Smart Investment Strategies
While the potential rewards of cryptocurrency investment are substantial, the risks are equally significant. Here are some strategies to consider:
Conduct Thorough Research: Always research a cryptocurrency before investing. Understand its technology, use case, and development team.
Diversify Your Portfolio: Don’t invest all your funds in one cryptocurrency. Spread your investments across various assets to reduce risk.
Adopt a Long-Term Perspective: Cryptocurrency is still a nascent industry. Short-term price volatility is common, so it’s wise to maintain a long-term view.
By following these strategies, you can increase your chances of success in the volatile cryptocurrency market.
Advantages of Cryptocurrency
The Appeal of Decentralization
One of the key benefits of cryptocurrency is decentralization. Unlike traditional money, which is controlled by governments and financial institutions, cryptocurrency operates on a decentralized network of computers.
This decentralization offers many benefits, including reduced risk of censorship and greater control over personal finances. Decentralization also increases the security of the system, as there is no single point of failure.
Lower Transaction Costs
Cryptocurrency transactions are often more cost-effective than traditional financial transactions due to the absence of intermediaries like banks.
For example, sending money across borders through traditional means can incur high fees. Cryptocurrency transactions generally have lower fees, making them a cost-efficient option for cross-border payments.
Financial Accessibility
Cryptocurrency has the potential to enhance financial inclusion, particularly for individuals who lack access to traditional banking services.
In many developing regions, where banking infrastructure is limited, cryptocurrency provides a secure and accessible way to store and transfer money without needing a bank account.
Disadvantages of Cryptocurrency
Navigating Price Fluctuations
A major disadvantage of cryptocurrencies is their price volatility. Cryptocurrency values can change rapidly, making them a high-risk investment.
For example, the price of Bitcoin has been known to fluctuate by thousands of dollars in a single day. This volatility makes it difficult to use cryptocurrencies as a stable store of value or a reliable medium of exchange.
Uncertain Regulatory Environment
The regulatory framework surrounding cryptocurrency is still evolving, creating uncertainty for investors and businesses. Regulations vary widely across countries, making global operations challenging.
Some countries have embraced cryptocurrencies, while others have banned them. This uncertainty can affect the adoption and value of cryptocurrencies.
Environmental Impact
Cryptocurrency mining, especially for Bitcoin, requires significant energy consumption, raising environmental concerns.
For example, the energy consumption of the Bitcoin network is comparable to that of some entire countries. This has led to increased scrutiny and calls for more sustainable mining practices.
Practical Applications of Crypto
Everyday Payments and Transactions
Cryptocurrency is increasingly being used for everyday payments and transactions, offering benefits such as lower fees and faster processing times compared to traditional methods.
Some merchants now accept Bitcoin as a form of payment, allowing customers to use cryptocurrency to purchase goods and services.
Investment and Market Trading
Cryptocurrency is also a popular investment vehicle. Many investors purchase cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, hoping for price appreciation over time.
Additionally, cryptocurrency trading has become a lucrative activity, where traders buy and sell cryptocurrencies on exchanges to profit from price fluctuations.
Smart Contracts: Automation in Action
Smart contracts are one of the most innovative uses of cryptocurrency. These self-executing contracts have terms written directly into the code, allowing various processes to be automated without the need for intermediaries.
Ethereum, for example, is a platform that supports smart contracts, allowing developers to create decentralized applications (DApps) that run on the blockchain.
The Rise of Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
Decentralized finance, or DeFi, represents a new financial ecosystem built on blockchain technology. It aims to replicate traditional financial services, such as lending and borrowing, without the need for banks.
Platforms like Compound and Aave allow users to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies directly from one another. This system increases access to financial services and eliminates the need for traditional intermediaries. In July 2024, the total value locked in DeFi protocols saw a 3.5% increase, demonstrating its resilience amid market fluctuations.
Future Prospects of Crypto
The outlook for cryptocurrency is bright. As technology continues to advance, it’s likely that we’ll see greater adoption and innovation in the cryptocurrency space. Some experts predict that cryptocurrency will become a mainstream payment method, while others see it as a valuable long-term investment asset.
Emerging trends, such as the growth of DeFi and the widespread use of stablecoins, indicate that cryptocurrency will continue to evolve. However, challenges like regulatory uncertainty and environmental concerns remain and must be addressed.
In conclusion, cryptocurrency has the potential to transform the financial landscape. Whether it’s used for payments, investments, or accessing financial services, cryptocurrency is poised to play a significant role in the future of finance.

What Are Most-Significant Applications of Industrial Refrigeration Systems?
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put the spotlight on the global healthcare ecosystem, as many of the myths about how advanced the medical infrastructure around the world is were busted. With the case and death counts rising, the industry was caught gasping for breath (metaphorically), while the patients were literally gasping for breath (COVID is a lung infection). During this time, the number of research studies being conducted in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors on virology skyrocketed, as a vaccine was to be the leader of the charge against the pandemic.
Therefore, the number of clinical trials being conducted for viral vaccines rose massively, as did the worldwide trade of vaccines, aided by several such products getting regulatory approvals. With the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors expected to not drop their guard for many years to come, the industrial refrigeration systems market size, as calculated by P&S Intelligence, is predicted to increase to $41.1 billion in 2030 from $26.8 billion in 2019, at a 5.0% CAGR between 2020 and 2030.
This is because an efficient, unbroken cold chain is essential for drug development and trade. Refrigerators are not only used to store and transport the final pharmaceutical products but also for the storage and transportation of the raw materials. Pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, excipients, active ingredients, tissues, and blood products are extremely sensitive to heat; therefore, effective cooling is necessary to protect them from damage and make them viable for use over a long time.
Another sector where refrigeration is important for the same reason is food and beverage. Most agricultural products spoil in the heat, which is why keeping them in cool conditions is paramount. Several of the processed food packages carry the directions “store in a cool and dry place”. In food processing factories, the ingredients, intermediate goods, and final products must be refrigerated to increase their shelf life. Thus, with the rising disposable income allowing people in developing countries to purchase processed food, the demand for industrial-grade refrigerators among food and beverage companies is surging.
Other industries where refrigeration is vital are oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing. Since, the food and beverage sector has been the largest user of such systems, their sales have been the highest in Asia-Pacific (APAC). Home to the largest number of people in the world, APAC has the most-productive food and beverage industry. India is already home to the fifth-largest processed food industry, which continues to garner extensive government support. “…the food processing sector in India has received around US$ 7.54 billion worth of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the period April 2000-March 2017.”, says the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF).
Moreover, recently, the Indian government announced plans to establish 40 mega food parks, which are essentially integrated manufacturing districts for the food and beverage sector. With this, the industrial refrigeration systems market is poised for strong growth, with such equipment being important in this industry. Moreover, Invest India expects the country’s food processing sector to value more than $500 billion by 2025, which reflects a consistently growing demand for processing equipment.
Hence, with the pharmaceutical and food and beverage production growing, the procurement of industrial-grade refrigerators will escalate too.

The Unbreakable Connection: Exploring Blockchain in Cryptocurrency
Introduction
In the realm of modern finance and technology, two terms have garnered immense attention and discussion: blockchain and cryptocurrency. While cryptocurrency has brought about a revolutionary way of transacting and investing, blockchain underpins the entire foundation of this digital financial landscape. The intricate interplay between blockchain technology and cryptocurrency has reshaped how we perceive money, transactions, and security in the digital age.
Understanding Cryptocurrency
Before delving into the significance of blockchain in cryptocurrency, let's establish a clear understanding of what cryptocurrency is. Cryptocurrency, often referred to as digital or virtual currency, is a decentralized form of currency that uses cryptography for secure transactions and control of new units. Bitcoin, introduced in 2009, marked the inception of cryptocurrencies, followed by an explosion of other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin, each with its unique features and purposes.
The Emergence of Blockchain Technology
Blockchain, the underlying technology of cryptocurrency, emerged as a ground breaking concept that has since transcended its roots in digital finance. Essentially, a blockchain is a decentralized, distributed digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers. Unlike traditional centralized systems, where a single entity has control, blockchain relies on a network of participants to validate and record transactions. This decentralized nature ensures transparency, security, and immutability of data.
Headings:
1. Decentralization and Transparency
Blockchain's core feature of decentralization is the cornerstone of its association with cryptocurrency. In the context of cryptocurrency transactions, decentralization means that no single entity governs the entire network. This lack of central authority not only reduces the risk of manipulation but also promotes transparency. Every transaction that occurs within a blockchain network is visible to all participants, creating a level of accountability that traditional financial systems struggle to achieve.
2. Security through Cryptography
Cryptography plays a pivotal role in both blockchain and cryptocurrency. Each transaction made using cryptocurrencies is secured through cryptographic techniques, making it nearly impossible for unauthorized entities to alter transaction data or counterfeit coins. In a blockchain, each block contains a cryptographic reference to the previous block, forming an unbroken chain. This makes altering a single block's information incredibly difficult, as it would require changing the entire subsequent chain.
3. Immutability and Data Integrity
The concept of immutability is a direct result of the security mechanisms in a blockchain. Once a transaction is recorded in a block and added to the chain, it becomes extremely challenging to modify or delete. This immutability ensures the integrity of the data stored within the blockchain, making it highly reliable for applications beyond just financial transactions. Sectors like supply chain management, healthcare, and voting systems are exploring blockchain for its ability to provide a tamper-resistant record of events.
4. Smart Contracts: Automating Processes
Blockchain's impact on cryptocurrency goes beyond simple transactions. Smart contracts, self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement written directly into code, are a prime example of how blockchain technology enhances the functionality of cryptocurrencies. These contracts automatically execute actions when predefined conditions are met. For instance, in Ethereum's blockchain, developers can create and deploy smart contracts that manage transactions without the need for intermediaries.
5. Scalability Challenges
While the potential of blockchain in cryptocurrency is vast, it's important to acknowledge the scalability challenges that have arisen. The decentralized nature of blockchain means that every participant in the network must validate each transaction. As the number of transactions increases, this process can become slow and resource-intensive. Various solutions, such as the development of second-layer scaling solutions and consensus mechanism improvements, are being explored to address these challenges.
6. The Future Landscape
The relationship between blockchain and cryptocurrency continues to evolve, with both technologies pushing the boundaries of innovation. The concept of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) is gaining traction, where governments are exploring the issuance of their own cryptocurrencies backed by the state. These CBDCs could potentially merge the benefits of cryptocurrencies, like instantaneous transactions, with the stability and legal backing of traditional fiat currencies.
Conclusion
The emergence of blockchain technology has given rise to the era of cryptocurrency, fundamentally altering the way we perceive and engage with money. The decentralization, security, transparency, and immutability inherent in blockchain have revolutionized traditional financial systems. As blockchain technology continues to mature and find applications beyond cryptocurrencies, its impact on various industries is bound to be transformative. Whether it's enhancing supply chain management or revolutionizing the way agreements are upheld through smart contracts, the unbreakable connection between blockchain and cryptocurrency is reshaping the digital landscape as we know it.

Is StrikerS the best season of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha? Probably, yeah. More importantly, though, it’s far and away the most fully realized season. After it spent its first season breaking out of its lackluster source material and struggled to figure out how to move things forward in A’s, StrikerS is where the Nanoha franchise finds exactly what it wants to be and delivers on it. It has the most interesting ideas, the most original characters, and the most unique vision of a sci-fi/fantasy world that basically invented its own subgenre in the magical girl space. And with two cours to work with, it’s able to flesh out those concepts with more depth than evers. From the exciting new cast of characters to the incredibly smart ways the old cast has matured in the intervening years. StrikerS is the smartest, most self-assured this franchise has even been, fully embracing its own identity to deliver on thrills and feels alike. And if it weren’t for the giant Symphogear-shaped asterisk hanging over everything, I’d happily say that I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
Speaking of Symphogear, though, it’s honestly really cool to see how Nanoha grew from a simple magical girl show into the futuristic magitech playground that Symphogear would appropriate so successfully. This franchise started out as a standard mahou shoujo in its first season, revealing its more sci-fi leanings over that season’s second half. A’s doubled down on the dimension-hopping and physical action, but still kept the mahou shoujo formula of everything taking place on our normal Earth, hidden from the sight of mere mortals. It’s only in StrikerS that it fully abandons all pretentions of classic magical girl aesthetics, fully immersing itself in an openly utopian futuristic world defined by advanced technology and mecha stylings, a world where mages fly through cities of shining chrome and magic has entirely been harnessed as a source of mechanical energy rather than an ancient, unknowable mysticism. I’ve had fun pointing out all the connections between Nanoha and Symphogear, but StrikerS marks the point where the two series meet, where Nanoha basically invents an aesthetic and narrative space for Symphogear to inherit and carry forward as seamlessly as passing a baton. Nanoha season 3 is Symphogear season 0, and I don’t just say that because of how obviously the Symphogear writers used Subaru as a prototype for Hibiki,
And that’s perhaps the coolest thing about finally checking out Nanoha. Watching this show has been like watching the secret history of one of my favorite stories on the face of the earth. I feel like an archaeologist rooting through the ruins of still-recent history, seeing all the daring new ideas these people of the past came up with and how they were eventually able to blossom into the finished forms we know and love today. Nanoha may fall short of its successor in many ways (to be fair, it also does some things better), but watching it has given me a much better appreciation of why Symphogear was such a phenomenal accomplishment. From an unlikely spinoff back in 2004 to creating a history that god doesn’t know in 2019, the legacy of these two intertwined series has shaped the course of anime, an unbroken chain of inspiration that has, in no small way, come to define why I love this medium so goddamn much. So thank you, Nanoha. Thank you for helping to provide the foundation of anime as we know and love it today.
Now, does that mean StrikerS is a perfect season of television? Hell to the no. It’s got the worst antagonists of any Nanoha season, the final battle is underwhelming thanks to focusing on too many lackluster subplots at once, and I’m still not a fan of the mid-2000s aesthetic this series is steeped in. It’s a flawed, gangly, lopsided animal, just as imperfect as this franchise has always been. But god damn, when it works, it really works. So while I don’t think I can justify giving it higher than a 5.5/10 because of how uneven it is, StrikerS was definitely a good note to close Nanoha out on, and I know I’ll have fond memories of its best moments long after its weaker aspects have faded from memory. Thank you all for joining me, and I’ll see you next time when we take on Black Butler!

I’ve been struggling with things lately, and I was wondering if you had any advice. I’m not exactly doubting my beliefs, but it’s started to become overwhelming and easy to get distracted and such, and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. My attatchement isn’t as strong and I just feel like I’m doing something wrong. Do you have any words of wisdom?
Hello, love!! I understand this feeling so well especially this time of the year since I get winter depression so I often find myself not as active in my devotion.
Even without winter depression I think what you’re experiencing is fairly common and every worshiper goes through it. So I want you to know you’re not alone!
Here are some ideas on what you can do:
Take a Break. I can tell you that the vast majority of worships are not unbroken chains. We have moments where we have to take a step back for multiple reasons. It’s okay to admit that you just can’t right now, the gods understand and ultimately want you to do what is best for you. So if you feel like you need time to focus on something else or even just to rest please do that! The gods will be there when you’re ready to dive back in.
Scale Down. Right now for whatever reason you could be experiencing low energy. That means that you might not have the spoons to do what you typically do for worship so it might be time to scale down. I actually recommend that everyone have different methods of worship that take different amounts of energy because none of us are always going to have the same amount of energy every single day of our lives for the rest of our lives. It fluctuates so it’s important to accept that and have low energy methods of worship at your disposal.
Rethink Worship. Sometimes a complete disconnect from worship means that we do not relate to the ways in which we are worshiping. It could be because we are forcing ourselves to do things we think we “have” to do or it could simply be that we have outgrown certain methods. Either way your disconnection could be a sign that it’s time to explore new ways of worship!
Back to Basics. I always tell worshipers that it’s important to have a foundation in place for moments just like this! A foundation is comprised of your reasons for being a Hellenic Polytheist and worshiping the gods. Perhaps you need reminding or you need to construct that foundation. Either way it can be helpful to think about your reasoning and write them down for yourself.
Hope those help in some way, love! Wishing you the best! ❤️

❀ || Here’s your warning now !! If you don’t know what Fatal Frame is, it’s a survival horror game in which you photograph ghosts who have suffered in many awful ways. If death, horror, and all of those things aren’t your thing, don’t read! Some things mentioned in the drabble below are dismemberment, eye horror, body horror, stalking, and sickness, so please read at your own risk (even if I didn’t write anything too vicious or heavily described).
This is all from @codebestowed and mine’s Fatal Frame AU ♡ Read Sora’s side of things here !!
If there was one thing Riku would never get used to, it was the sheer amount of pure, unfiltered energy that made up malicious ghosts, the reminder coming to him in the form of slender fingers wrapping themselves viciously around his bicep with a force that made him feel as though his arm had been touched by live wire. Elongated, scarlet nails that were quite obviously not painted on, curled around soft flesh and muscle, a shrill voice reverberating around the room in a near deafening rising cacophony the more venom she spat.
‘Don’t look at me! Don’t look at me !! How dare you judge me!’
He should have sensed the Mistress’s presence long before she manifested, her aura near suffocating with malice. There was little time to feel foolish over his mistake, not when the camera obscura trembled so insistently at his side as the spirit confined within grew equally as angered as she. Sora’s form was at his side in an instant, the phantom’s arm shooting out quicker than Riku could properly unravel the camera’s aperture as his friend moved in to defend him. Arm still seized in under the Mistress’s firm grip, the camera’s strap trapped beneath crimson claw, Riku struggled to lend aid in the form of being the camera’s user, but the angle was all wrong.
Suddenly, the photojournalist was thrown effortlessly across the room, Sora’s concerned voice breaking through the piercing, angered screams of the Mistress.
The burning against his side tore a hiss from the silveret’s lips, elbow gracelessly colliding with the floor in an effort to break his fall, only for the rest of his form to come tumbling after. It was in abject horror that Riku watched as the camera obscura slipped from his hold, old and rotting tatami flooring providing little as a means of stability and grip as it skated across the surface.
Down the gaping hole that had been worn into the floor, exposed beams and foundation support being the only safety between them and the drop from their place in the manor atop the cliff. The camera’s neck strap, now torn and damaged, was caught precariously on a protruding beam.
‘Riku ?’
It was as if Sora’s whisper toppled over the first domino that strung together the next chain reaction, the brunet’s ghostly form suddenly flickering by the room’s entrance only to be jostled across the room with a pained cry, forced to remain within the camera’s permitted range.
One which was currently threatening to slip off the beam and down into the village’s ground level below.
‘You think I’m hideous!’ Continued the Mistress’s wails, razor nails clawing down marred and misshapen features. ‘You think me a monster!’ She pressed on with the accusations, and it took all of Riku’s focus and sheer will to balance equal amounts of attention onto her and the wide-eyed stare of Sora below. ‘I’ll show you... !!’ The last bit of her statement was growled in a low, venomous whisper, as if without warning, her voice had gone hoarse from mistreatment.
Eerily calm, slender form draped in the finest of silks, she moved forward in her advance, spurring Riku on to make his decision.
“Sora!” He twisted around, shuffling towards the edge of the hole in the ground and reaching forth to grab hold of the camera’s strap. With every shift, every inch taken into the dangerous gaping maw and onto the rotting beams, the wood began to groan and splinter beneath his weight.
No... no, he had to...! He had to save Sora! He couldn’t do this alone, not without him! They made a promise to see things through to the end together !!
Another groan, but his chosen perch remained unbroken, and actively did the photojournalist ignore the Mistress’s twisted laughter as she did nothing but whisper sweetly of all the mutilation he would suffer at her hand that he, too, would be made ugly and malformed, just as the tainted water did to her. It mattered not the promises she made, they were built on sinking ground at best, Riku’s own driving him forth to reach Sora, who’s own hand reached for his.
How strange it was to see: Fear, panic, hope, and longing, all reflected back at him through a dead person’s eyes; How alive Sora appeared to be, as lifeless dark carmines seemed to swim with life within their unblinking gaze.
Fingertips nearly grazed before the camera’s strap snapped and sent the camera obscura plunging into the quiet village below.
Riku didn’t know who screamed, himself, Sora, or the Mistress approaching from above.
Perhaps it was all three.
“SORA !!” Panic, palatable and colder than any winter, it settled into his being as though it stemmed from his very soul, vision blurring in a mixture of anxiety and building tears. Something inside of him broke, hands unable to stop in their tremor, a feeling that only transferred straight through into his shoulders. His entire body was trembling, breath coming in short, quick pants hyperventilating as he watched the camera, and Sora’s comforting presence, vanish over the cliffside.
I... I have to go get him... I have to-- ‘I’LL MAKE RIBBONS OUT OF YOU!’
Bloodied fingers reached for silver tresses, jostling Riku out of his daze. Heart hammering firmly within his chest, he clamored across the beam in an effort to crawl beneath the house’s foundation, a cramped space which provided just enough room to shuffle his body through with panicked motions. The Mistress remained wailing from her spot above, an endless stream of curses and terrible promises, vividly describing the desecration of Riku’s living body in awful glee.
String you up! Such a pretty pretty ribbon you’ll be~’ Dirt clumped against his chest, burrowing under his nails and slipping into his shoes as he breathed heavily in his escape. ‘Will you make me beautiful again? Your skin will make a fine gown!’ His lungs felt on fire, but he knew the labored breath wasn’t due to him being out of shape. Vision blurring once more, he felt the beginnings of another internal threat waiting to throw his senses into overdrive.
A panic attack. He hadn’t had one of those since he was a kid in the homes, openly weeping to the matrons of awful twisted apparitions and a sky that wouldn’t stop raining red.
‘I’ll cut you to pieces! You don’t deserve to look beautiful! I do! I do! I ’
Silence, deafening and sharper than any knife, causing Riku to pause in his escape. It was only then that he noticed the newly acquired lightning scar to mar the skin against his arm, right where the Mistress had held him in her vise grip, but he didn’t linger on the matter too long.
Why is it so damn quiet...?
A shuddered breath, the exhale he let out being cut short each and every time he tried. He should be glad there was no more screaming, but dead silence never meant well when it came to this cursed village. If Riku had learned anything during his time here, it was that silence meant you crossed into another’s domain, the boundary belonging to each ghost varying. The Mistress was bound to her manor, tall and proud beams displaying every luxurious expense with nothing spare. Was beneath such a grandiose display not a part of that domain?
No, of course not, his mind supplied, allowing himself to calm the slightest in knowing he was safe. She thinks herself too high and mighty to even think of lowering herself this far into the dirt, in living or in death.
Eyes slipped shut, yearning for the safety of the blindfold Sora had found for and gifted him.
More than that, he wanted nothing more than to get Sora back, safe and sound, where he knew they could both watch each other’s backs and keep one another safe.
Lashes fluttered open in a moment’s determination. ‘She put me down here... she is cruel...’ Only for a pale face to greet him in twisted, mangled agony, the spirit’s limbs obviously broken in such a way that came from careless shoving and forcing into a space that was not meant to be filled. She reminded Riku of a spider, elbows and knees bent upwards as joints were pressed firmly into the beams above his head, her neck craned and dangling with the gentlest of sways.
‘The Mistress... even when beautiful... was always an ugly monster...’
And then she had vanished, fading into nothingness as her words provided another blanket of silence. His heart drummed within his chest relentlessly, mercilessly beating against his ribs with such force, Riku swore he could feel the dirt beneath him shift as if being subjected to an earthquake. No matter how many spirits he encountered, each and every one was frightening in their own right, be it by how large of a threat they were, or how terrible a fate they had suffered.
There would be many more ghosts to stand in his way on his journey to find Sora, and even as Riku pulled himself through the crawlspace, and finally, out to freedom, it was difficult to think he could make it through unscathed and without being afraid.
‘Don’t be afraid’, he recalled Sora telling him, fingers gingerly digging out the semi-transparent cloth from his pocket, ‘This will keep you safe.’
He stood there for a moment, body aching with more than just a few bruises and burns, but with a fear and primal need to ensure his ghostly companion was safe to ensure that his friend was safe. Cameras were fragile things, especially one of the obscura’s particular make. It could have been damaged from the fall, even if the camera hadn’t been folded out when it had fallen. Riku only hoped the sturdy casing kept it protected during the tumble.
With shaking hands, cloth met his eyes and shrouded his vision in a layer of darkness, embroidery of cherry blossoms and branches stitched into the fabric in just as black a thread as the rest. It was a subtle design, despite its intricacy, but the fabric or design itself wasn’t what made it so special.
Eyes were the windows to the soul, so the saying went. It was easier to go unnoticed by the phantoms when your eyes were kept hidden, but most of all, it made it easier to remain hidden from
No... no, he couldn’t think of that nightmare of a spirit, a cold chill being sent tumbling down his spine. Riku felt safe underneath the guise of the cloth, and that’s what had mattered.
Sora had told him he was safe wearing it, after all, and he trusted the camera’s spirit with all he had.
“S-sora... please be safe...” He murmured quietly, brows drawn together in a moment’s concern before he drew in a deep breath and took the first step forward.
The pathway from the manor down back into the village was lined with unlit stone lanterns and Japanese maples, bright and fiery leaves rustling gently in the light breeze. It was harder to see with the blindfold over his eyes, despite how translucent the fabric was, not with how the moon overhead grew shrouded behind passing clouds. Riku found comfort in the constant chirping of crickets amidst the otherwise silent night, their music drowning out each and every shaken breath he took as boots took care with each step down the sloping pathway. It was cold, but Riku couldn’t determine whether that was due to the actual temperature of the night, or because of the lingering spirits to inhabit the village.
A sob, one that had the silveret holding his breath and freeze in his descent, going so far as to lifting his hands to his mouth in an effort to keep his breathing to a minimal. Its source came from the mockery of a torii gate just at the end of the pathway, the shape mimicking the sacred gate commonly found on sacred grounds or before shinto shrines. The Mistress was so full of herself in life, it seemed, that she had the thing built to signify the entrance to her manor. A sacrilege among the village, no doubt, if the wrinkle in Sora’s nose told Riku anything the first time they had crossed the grounds.
Sora...
If he wanted to find Sora, he needed to brave the village on his own. With every cautious step taken forward, Riku saw more and more of the phantom stationed behind the gate, a young man knelt in prayer who paid the only living soul there no mind.
‘Heavens help us,’ he mourned unmoving, ‘the sickness is spreading...’
And then he was gone, just as the last spirit had done, vanishing from sight and leaving Riku alone in the dark once again.
I can do this... Sora, I’ll be right there. Just please... please be okay..!
Humble homes stretched out before him, old and forgotten banners and signs swinging lightly in the breeze, the ocassional rusty creak weaving itself upon the wind’s breath. The young photojournalist pressed onward, feeling eyes on him from all angles. On instinct, Riku’s hand flew to his side, wanting nothing more than to feel the reassuring presence and warmth of the camera at his side.
But hand met nothing but his jeans, the space empty where his comfort once was. His opposite hand flew to his chest, fingers curling around a strap that no longer pressed against there, and instead, found himself clutching at the fabric of his shirt instead.
Riku couldn’t lie.
He was terrified, a fear fueled by his own regard for his safety, and the fear that something terrible had happened to Sora and it had been his own, careless fault.
There was screaming suddenly in the distance, loud and piercing, sending Riku near stumbling down stone steps. Heart lodged within his throat, sea green eyes widening behind the veil, he listened intently for the source, hearing the gentle rustling from a house nearby and the falling of something ceramic in another. The spirits were sensing him, smelling his fear and seeking him out to their locale, enticing that sense of curiosity and concern that any living person would pursue in order to ensure the inhabitant from within was okay.
Riku wouldn’t be lured by their tricks, picking up the pace as his heart hammered within his chest, every beat sending spots into his vision. He had his goal, his mind set and determined to find Sora. There would be nothing that could get in the way of his goal, not even
‘I found you...’ That familiar voice hit him like a wave, crashing over him with a force that drew a startled, strangled sound from his lips. Riku hated how his senses seemed to shut down at the sound, hands clamped over his mouth once again as he felt the beginnings of panic settle over him all over. ‘You have my eyes... Give me back my eyes...!’
He saw the Eyeless Akinari’s fingers curl from around the corner of an alley, long digits digging into the wood as though using it for support, before the rest of his form came rounding about. Nose pointed high in the air, he sniffed and smelled for the living, breathing presence to walk among the dead, neck craning a moment before he directly faced Riku’s form.
Thoroughly caught, it spurred the silveret on, feet digging into the ground below as he broke into a sprint. Long limbs reached for him, the air charged with static from the energies Eyeless Akinari radiated, so much so, Riku felt the hairs on his arms stand on end as he twisted away from the ghost’s reach.
‘Don’t be greedy! Share your eyes with me!’
“Get ” His voice cut out, a particularly harsh beat of his heart shaking his very being as he scrambled for balance and bolted down the village steps, hands shooting out to push himself off buildings as he practically ricocheted back and forth clumsily with each dodge. “ your own!”
Riku climbed over stone fencing, leaping over modest gardens that had long lost their fruit and flora, before vaulting over into the roads behind. All the while, Eyeless Akinari followed like a bloodhound chasing its target without mercy, begging and pleading that Riku comply with his requests (demands). Breath heavy on his lips, he descended further and further into the village, ignoring mournful cries and wailing pleas, even when hands sought a banister for stability, ghostly counterparts rising to grasp at them in an effort to further seek his aid.
They were disembodied arms, but the voice to echo in sharp gasps in his ears was particularly feminine.
‘Help me! Please, help me! It hurts! It hurts!’ “I-I’m sorry, I can’t !”
‘Give me back my eyes! You stole them! It’s not fair! It’s not fair!’
Riku tore his hand from the partial apparition, continuing on his race to find his friend. If he could somehow lose the Eyeless Akinari
The cherry blossoms... Eyes widened at the sight of them, that particular part of the village having been long abandoned over the fear of the tainted waters. The ghosts avoided the pastel trees out of fear for their afterlives, for reasons Riku couldn’t entirely understand, not just yet. Sora had spoken very briefly over the matter, but the point remained the same: Cherry blossom trees meant safety.
Sparing no time, Riku bolted for the trees, narrowly missing another swipe from the Eyeless Akinari. The spirit let out an angered scream, making Riku’s blood run cold as the sound startled him and sent him sprawling onto the ground.
Lungs cried for him to stop, to rest and catch his breath, but Riku forced himself upright anyhow, hands reaching forward to clutch at the ground and pull him forward if he had to. The ghost was just above him, but fingers met soft fallen petals with that single reach. Fists clenched, the silveret twisted on the ground and threw a handful of petals at Eyeless Akinari in a last minute’s effort to fight back.
The scream was deafening, but Riku registered the pained sound not to be his own terror fueled, determined one.
Eyes that he hadn’t realized he squeezed shut slowly fluttered open behind the blindfold, catching sight of Eyeless Akinari’s flailing form behind embroidered fabric.
Riku took the moment to scramble back onto his feet, sprinting down the path despite the newly acquired ache he felt in his knee. The road through the cherry blossoms would only slow the phantom down, and surely, Riku would encounter the awful spirit someplace deeper into the village, near the mill the silveret knew resided just below the manor, and where likely, Sora resided in wait.
His chest burned, lungs on fire, but Riku refused to give pause.
Not until he found Sora and knew he was safe.

Dear Vector Prime, Sir,
Can you please tell us about your favorite Cybertronian holiday?
Dear Humble Holidaymaker,
The Festival of Lost Light is a beautiful, somber occasion when Cybertronians remember those who have passed on from our mortal Kingdom, beyond the Foundation and towards the Crown. When I am in a jollier mood, I admire the many parades, decorations, and stories of All Spark Day. The Cyber-Solstice is a time of celebration of community, kindness, and fortitude in the face of the great storms that herald its coming, though I fear that over time it has become more of a celebration of overconsumption than anything.
Some belief systems observe the Days of Dedication, a decacycle to commemorate historical resistance against the functionist Adaptican Empire and the miracle of the undying Matrix Flame. And, of course, in contrast to the solemnity of the Festival of Lost Light, there is Forgeflame Night, a joyful celebration of the lives and memories of those who have passed on to the Primal Wellspring, where story and song are passed down in a great, unbroken chain. Some may find the imagery of this festival—bare endoskeletons, fierce sparkeaters, horned devourers and bestial transorganics—to be gruesome or morbid, but I believe that it simply acknowledges that death, though undoubtedly tragic, is a part of Cybertronian life not to be feared.

Prompt: choose your own word (unbroken), post-5.3 (includes spoilers), 1,281 words
She wasn’t leaving, she reminded herself as she slipped from the bed. She was staying on the Source, she was staying in Ishgard, just not in the house.
The covers clung to Etien as she rose to her feet, rising unsteadily and taking her first steps of the day. It was still dark, so she relied half on the strength of her vision and half on feeling around as she slid on a dress and stockings thick enough to keep her warm in the pre-dawn weather of Ishgard and gathered up her lyre.
As she lifted it from its place, she turned back to look at Aymeric, hoping he was still sleeping. He was, though his arms were outstretched across the bed, as if they had followed her form, reaching out for her as she’d parted from him.
She wondered how many times he’d slept in that position while she’d been gone, her heart only sinking at the thought. She could believe that he still wanted her, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that even so, she was depriving him of something, having to be gone so often and so long. Even as she tried to mitigate the extended separations.
She’d never been warned that there was so much guilt associated with the mantle she took up.
She made her way to the door, shrugging on a cloak and toeing into her boots. Then she was out the door.
As Ishgard started to stir around her, Etien took in the scenery. It didn’t look much different, but with the snow stopped for a moment, the sky clear, she could almost imagine the place in springtime. Still, a wintry stillness held its command over the stones. Knights on their watches blinked slowly into the light growing stronger with every moment, but other than them, the city was empty.
Nobility sleeps, indeed.
She kept walking, her steps barely audible even against the quiet atmosphere, finally echoing when she’d started down the stairs to Foundation.
Etien settled into seated, tail draped next to her and avoiding a patch of snow, on that rough, raw edge of the city’s walls, where they dropped off into nothing at the sides of the Steps of Faith.
She got her lyre resting comfortably in her arms, strumming at it absently until things started to solidify for her. She had been thinking about guilt when she’d left bed, and that wasn’t for no reason.
She may have told Aymeric and Estinien about the fear she’d felt during Elidibus’ trial, but not the guilt. She wanted to, wished she could, absolve herself of the feeling, when she hadn’t had much of a choice. She’d even said so—what was she going to do, fail or die?
Failure would have only proved Elidibus right. Death would have only damned the First, the Source, and the Scions.
Well, some part of her wanted to think Feo Ul could have done one last favor for her, carried the vessels between worlds, one by one, until they were all whole again, and Etien could be laid to rest at the bottom of the ocean, too faithful to her own pursuits to kill a magicked cubus.
But she hadn’t done that. She swallowed her feelings like she’d swallowed all that light before, took up her bow, and dry-sobbed as the arrow flew. She had always been an excellent marksman, even with tears in her eyes.
Whom did the storm weep for?
The notes were coming faster now, still with no words, as she thought. She’d even delayed it in the moment, starting with Raubahn. That hadn’t been pleasant with all the history and fellowship there, but at least she could lie to herself and say this was a show of her skill, same as it had been during the very grand melee that was being replicated here.
And then, Lucia. Lucia, who had been one of her bridesmaids. Wasn’t that some fine betrayal, to have her as accompaniment to the altar and then turn weapons against her? This was harsh psychological warfare Elidibus was waging, that it still echoed in Etien’s mind when all had been resolved, the battle won, and she had returned to comfort and relative peace at home.
She would have been at peace, if this guilt wasn’t still looped around her like a chain or collar, heavy for all it implied.
But finally, of the three who had rushed her, only one remained, and she couldn’t look him in the eyes. If being under Aymeric’s loving gaze was like standing in the warmth of the sun, this recreation’s eyes on her felt like being thrust into daylight after too long confined in darkness, burning and painful.
She didn’t squint, though, her vision just blurred and streaked with another wave of tears that made that familiar, favorite shade of blue wobble in front of her, the wavering gleam of gold too harsh. Something had taken her over, shouting down her heart’s screams of Don’t hurt him, after all he’s done for you, with all he is to you, mechanizing her motions.
Retrieve an arrow. Press its nock to the bowstring, press it close until she could feel it stick. Draw all the way to her chin and… release. It sank into flesh, a muffled grunt her sign she’d struck true enough.
She stood there a long time when he fell, or what felt like a long time, just thinking, lamenting. Ah, only her aim was true, if she would willingly loose an arrow at the heart of her beloved.
Recalling him apologizing to Estinien for that very same action only added another layer of weight. It was fake, and she knew that somewhere within, past the rote motions and the wailing that wouldn’t quiet (how could it, in such a situation?). But the necessity of pressing forward had her trusting her instincts and ignoring her senses in equal measure, and it had her head spinning.
It was… eerie, recalling it now, how Elidibus had taunted her with something deeply similar to a comment she’d made (yowled) to Zephirin, about how only Haurchefant hadn’t been using her.
Knowing these darknesses of her heart were being played out and called down to her to mock her eased the pain a little. In fact, it was this moment that her strumming stopped, that realization dawned on her the same as the morning’s light was finally hitting her.
She had not been helpless, the proof of that was that she had come out of the battle alive and relatively unscathed. She had been made victim to dirty tricks and underhanded designs tailored to break her. But she had remained unbroken. Twice now, she had been unbroken.
Etien had trusted in something innate, past preternatural powers, past Hydaelyn’s blessing, and it had brought her out the other side. It had brought her here.
She scooted back from the precipice and stood up, bolting for the stairs to the Pillars.
She shed layer after layer as she ran through Borel Manor, eager to get back to bed for a whole host of reasons that didn’t include exhaustion.
She was in only her smallclothes when she slipped back under the covers, back into the warm, loving arms that had reached for her when she’d drifted from them.
“Etien, you’re freezing,” Aymeric mumbled, still half-asleep.
She pulled herself closer to him, tucking her head under his chin and purring before she’d even chosen to start doing so. “I need you,” she replied, “to keep me warm.”
Perhaps the best thing was that no matter where she went, no matter what she stared down, two things remained unbroken: her spirit and their vow.
