Hi! Do you know any books by Indigenous authors from the archipelago rather than Filipino ppl researching or writing about them (acknowledging all these terms are fraught)
Chiva: A Reader on Ibaloy History and Culture is written by “a combination of professional researchers and non-academics” which includes native perspectives so you might wanna check that out.
anything by june chayapan prill-brett; she is half igorot and has been studying bontok societies for a long time. she was featured in the documentary walang rape sa bontoc.
if you want to include bangsamoro authors, who are indigenous to their lands but are not categorized as Indigenous Peoples per se, then you can go for The Rulers of Magindanao in Modern History, 1515–1903: Continuity and Change in a Traditional Realm in the Southern Philippines by datu atty. michael ong mastura. he is chinese-maguindanaoan and one of the (many, many) descendants of sultan kudarat.
this one i haven’t read but i’d also keep an eye out for Transfiguring Mindanao: A Mindanao Reader, which may include lumad or moro authors.

Hope you get to enjoy the beautiful things your home has to offer! I live in a tourist area as well, and I know it can be tricky, sometimes tourists get to see the pretty things while we are left with the repercussions of their visit (contamination and so on), but I truly hope you get to see all those secret places that only locals know about and that you enjoy being able to bask in such wonderful areas.

My friend from Sultan Kudarat and my bf's colleague
I don't want to conclude my opinion, but there's something odd with him after he got his first job. I hope he doesn't hurt my friend's feelings. She's pure and kind please don't break her heart.
— This was just a random thought and rant. Hopefully things will go well.

Ang Aking Talambuhay
Taong dalawang libo at lima ng ika-labing apat ng Marso noong ako ay ipinanganak sa lungsod ng Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. Nag-iisang anak nina Maricel B. Valenzuela at Joseph B. Dacillo. Ako si Justee Marie V. Dacillo, labing pitong taong gulang. Nakatira sa Tacurong City Sultan Kudarat at nag-aaral sa General Santos Doctors' Medical School Foundation Inc., at kasalukuyang nasa ika-labindalawang baitang.
"If growing up means I'm slowly losing him, then I don't wanna grow up anymore."
Life traumatized me so much when I was 9yo. Lahat tayo may kanya-kanyang pagsubok sa buhay at kung meron man akong nag-iisang bagay na pwedeng hilingin, yun ay ang sana maheal ko na ang inner child ko.
:D

Stallion Farm, A Place And Story Of Change
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other side of this majestic place, a hidden paradise awaits. Venture into the forest, trekking beneath the tree canopy as the noise of visitors fades away. Soon, only the sound of your breath and the rhythmic beat of your heart envelop you. Immerse yourself in the symphony of nature’s joy and excitement, revitalized by the cold water, your heart filled with serenity and gratitude. This is the unseen world of the site, a testament to the wonders that surround us. Let us all marvel at its beauty and remember: “Atong kinaiyahan atong protektahan.”
Stallion Farm is a powerful reminder that life is full of unexpected twists and turns. It shows us that even when faced with challenges, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. It captures the idea that, just as this place emerged from a difficult past and found peace and success, we too can discover unexpected beauty and fulfillment in our own life journeys.

Imprints of my Hometown: Directing My Path in PolSci, Peace Studies, and IHL Exploration
Princess Hannah Mapa PSElec 2238 8-703
In a world frequently defined by conflict and disagreement, studying Political Science (PolSci) has become a vital academic pursuit for those who wish to comprehend the complexities of power, governance, and the art of resolving conflicts. For individuals like myself, who have witnessed the grim realities of armed conflicts and terrorism, the importance of delving into subjects like International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and peace studies becomes not just a choice but a moral imperative.
Growing up in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, I found myself embedded in a place where local armed conflicts and terrorist attacks were, unfortunately, not unfamiliar occurrences. The echoes of bomb blasts and the somber tales of relatives who had faced armed conflicts became a part of the backdrop of my life. These experiences served as an unwavering reminder of the impact political instability and violence can have on communities. The desire to comprehend the intricacies of these conflicts and actively contribute to peace-building efforts led me to pursue a degree in Political Science.
Basically, political science provides an angle through which we can analyze the structure of society as a whole. It offers the means to understand the mechanics that govern international relations and the political motivations behind decisions. The intersection of politics, peace studies, and international humanitarian law can be found within this broad field. An interdisciplinary topic called peace studies investigates the reasons behind war and potential solutions, primarily depending on Political Science. International humanitarian law comes into effect in this situation.
IHL, also known as the law of war or the law of armed conflict, governs the conduct of armed conflicts with the primary goal of minimizing human suffering. It outlines rules for protecting non-combatants, prisoners of war, and other individuals affected by armed conflict. The connection between PolSci, peace studies, and IHL is evident: IHL offers the legal framework to protect individuals caught in the crossfire while understanding the political causes of conflicts is essential for developing successful peace strategies.
Nevertheless, studying IHL and peace has major challenges. Applying these concepts is challenging due to wars' unpredictable nature, the complex interactions between many parties, and the blurry distinctions between combatants and civilians. The frequent conflict between political interests and humanitarian considerations further complicates the search for enduring peace. Navigating these challenges requires a multidisciplinary approach, where understanding political science gives the contextual understanding necessary to execute IHL principles and peace-building strategies properly.
The experiences that compelled me to pursue Political Science have only solidified my belief in the importance of studying IHL and peace studies. My hometown, Sultan Kudarat, serves as a microcosm of the global and national conflicts that continue to ravage societies. It is a reminder that political decisions have far-reaching consequences, and understanding these decisions is crucial for preventing future conflicts. In conclusion, the journey of a PolSci major is not merely an academic pursuit; it is a commitment to unraveling the complexities of human behavior, governance, and conflict resolution, for individuals who have witnessed the horrors of armed conflicts, like myself, studying International Humanitarian Law and peace studies offers a glimmer of hope in a world often overshadowed by strife. By comprehending the intricate connections between politics, peace, and IHL, we pave the way for a more just and harmonious world—one that our experiences and countless others remind us is desperately needed.
