Hi! Do you know any books by Indigenous authors from the archipelago rather than Filipino ppl researching or writing about them (acknowledging all these terms are fraught)
Chiva: A Reader on Ibaloy History and Culture is written by “a combination of professional researchers and non-academics” which includes native perspectives so you might wanna check that out.
anything by june chayapan prill-brett; she is half igorot and has been studying bontok societies for a long time. she was featured in the documentary walang rape sa bontoc.
if you want to include bangsamoro authors, who are indigenous to their lands but are not categorized as Indigenous Peoples per se, then you can go for The Rulers of Magindanao in Modern History, 1515–1903: Continuity and Change in a Traditional Realm in the Southern Philippines by datu atty. michael ong mastura. he is chinese-maguindanaoan and one of the (many, many) descendants of sultan kudarat.
this one i haven’t read but i’d also keep an eye out for Transfiguring Mindanao: A Mindanao Reader, which may include lumad or moro authors.

NOSTALGIA
The distinct smell of a brewing Arabica coffee brought me back to my grandparents ancestral house. A picture of my grandfather stramming a hand made instrument to the sound of our native gongs and cymbals while sipping his coffee in between came to mind. Ah! How I miss him, his sarcasm, and his coffee.
"Kini-ing" my tribe's native delicacy, salted pork meats stringed by a bamboo stick then placed over a fire to preserve it for days. The salt and fire smoke give it a tangy flavor. Our kind of grilled meat..😅
Unfortunately, these traditions are slowly dying out due to the advent of technology. Espresso machines are now used to make coffee and "kini-ing" is rare to find.
Arabica brewed coffee and a kini-ing for viand, what a meal!..

Katribu condemns harassment of CPA leader during court hearing (Facebook link)
Katribu Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas condemns the harassment experienced by Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) leader Sarah Alikes during a court hearing in Baguio City on January 26, 2024. The hearing was related to the petition filed by Alikes, along with CPA leaders Windel Bolinget, Jennifer Awingan, and Steve Tauli, on November 23, 2023, to overturn their designation as terrorists by the Anti-Terrorism Council.
The harassment incident occurred inside the Baguio Justice Hall, where an individual named "Zyrus Tarnate" trailed the Cordilleran activists and later handed Alikes an empty envelope. A similar case of harassment also happened during their first hearing on December 14 of the previous year. An armed policeman identified as Patrolman Maruel Baniwaa Benito, based on his identification card, was spotted taking photos and videos of the four petitioners.
Katribu views these incidents of harassment, intended to threaten and intimidate victims of human rights violations, as brazen acts by state security forces. We hold the Marcos Jr. regime accountable should any harm befall the four CPA leaders. Clearly, Alikes’ experience is intended to silence them and other activists in similar situations.

Wondering about the A.Y.P.E? From wikipedia: “The Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition, acronym AYP or AYPE, was a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909 publicizing the development of the Pacific Northwest.” Read more here!
I always find the history and controversies around such things a fascinating reflection of the culture of the time. This article is a particular rabbit hole for things like The Seattle Socialist , Landscaper John Charles Olmstead , and The Igorot People.

Apo Whang Od is a Kalinga elder and Michelle Dee’s dress was based specifically on Kalinga traditional tattoos.
As Indigenous motifs and aesthetics have become more and more common in Philippine media, let us not limit our interest and admiration for IP cultures with feel-good “tributes” and pageantry but also extend our curiosity to the livelihoods of the people who inspire them.

The Philippines has ranked as the deadliest country in Asia for environmental defenders for a decade. May the culture of injustice, extrajudicial killings, and impunity end within our lifetimes.

Urpi Ritual by Mumbaki at Brgy. Kinakin, Banawe, Ifugao
The video I am sharing on our vlog details our journey from Star Mall San Jose del Monte, Bulacan to Brgy. Kinakin, Banawe, Ifugao. The BSB (Bahay Siadtala Binabaylan), along with Apu Adman Aghama, have been invited by our Spiritual Mumbaki Brother, Ka Mamerto Tindongan, and Ate Jennelyn Nanglihan to attend their “urpi” ritual. This ceremony will be held at their sacred site in Brgy. Kinakin,…
