While filling the tank in my car at the gas station this morning, I was approached by a very nice, 20-something Asian woman. (I only mention race, because it confused me a bit when connected to another detail I'm about to mention)

The reason she came up to me, was to invite me to an upcoming event at her church. While she never specifically mentioned which church, I did notice the words "Jehovah's Witness" in the flyer she showed me. (this is why her race confused me. I have never seen any Asian Jehovah's Witnesses before. They obviously exist, but all of them that I had encountered before were ultra pasty white)

The other thing that seemed odd to me, is that the event she was inviting me to would have simply been referred to as an "Easter Celebration" by practically all other Christian religions. Though, she (and the flyer she was holding) referred to it as a "Memorial of Jesus Christ's Death".

I was polite and told her I would think about it; we parted and went our separate ways.

As soon as I got in my car and started driving away, Pandora started blasting "Backslider" by The Toadies on my car stereo. (As if I needed another hint that my phone is literally listening to absolutely everything going on around me in the world)

Wonder how all the media girlies who think all media should be completely unproblematic would deal with some of our 90's music. Like Possum Kingdom by The Toadies. Yeah its a five minute song about fucking and then murdering your date so you can keep her eternally, but its a really fucking awesome song and obviously its just a song.

ok so basically i grew up with this song,

like ive known all the lyrics since i was 6 and im texan right, so the somg is named after the lake here, possum kingdom, and this is a texan band right so i always thought that like every other texan knew this song cause this song is really popular and was a big hit when it came out and my ma said she remembers this song n how she used to listen to it all the time when it came out but like…. my friends don't know this song??? and they’re all texan??? and it might be because both my parents were in their grunge/alt rock phase when this song came out but like… it thought every texan knew this song 😭😭 ANYWAYS
