Ch.45 - No Mercy for the Coward

Kiera and Simon take out Isaac at his home; The 141 and Sheriff Richards take action to pursue their search for Fernando; Alejandro is reunited with his son and one person is left on Kiera's list: Shepherd.

"We have to tell Shepherd-"

"We're not telling Shepherd anything," Isaac scoffed. "Do you not trust me? She doesn't have the nerve to come here."

Yeah, she does. "I still think we should go somewhere else for a while."

"You're scared, aren't you?"

"No. I just don't want to die, man."

"Well, you can go if you feel like it's suitable. I'm staying right here. Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to watch the game."

"Alright." Malcolm sighed, going to pack a bag, wondering if he should rent a hotel room for a few weeks or to flee into the hills of Wyoming to live in a tent. Anything is better than being killed by her. I'd rather be eaten by wolves.

"Malcolm," Isaac said from the couch, keeping his head facing the television away from him, hearing Malcolm stop in his tracks. "Go to the safehouse. The boy is there. She won't find you there."

"Okay. You sure I shouldn't tell Shepherd?"

"No. The more you tell him, the more he has time to fuck this all up like he did in the first place. He should've kept his nose in his own business, but he had to poke the bear and now he's going to have us pay for it before he does himself."

Malcolm shivered at his words, proceeding to the borrowed bedroom to retrieve an overnight bag, the hired security guard waiting at the front door for him to escort him to the safehouse location.

Stopping at the front gate of Isaac's driveway, Malcolm rolled down his window to speak to Dylan, Shahan bowing his head in shame as he knew he had to do the right thing. "Thank you." Malcolm mouthed to Dylan.

The deputy nodded, clutching the grip of his Glock as he forced himself to keep his composure, watching the vehicle that carried Malcolm drive down the road to an undisclosed location.

Kiera strapped her tactical vest to her torso, double-checking her firearms to ensure they were loaded as she entered the kitchen, her adrenaline spiking as she was met with Alejandro sitting at the table, taking a mug of black coffee from Simon's hand when he offered it, he too in tactical gear as he refused to let Kiera go by herself.

Alejandro's eyes were red with irritation and depression, forcing himself to look up at her as loose strands of his black hair framed his face. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. "I'm going to get him." She assured the worried father.

"I don't doubt you will, senora," He spoke lowly. "Just promise me one thing."

"Anything."

"Make sure you kill him. Because if he doesn't die and I get a hold of him, he'll wish you killed him first."

She smirked, "I promise."

Simon joined her in the truck, holding his balaclava between his index finger and thumb, excited to slip it on again, missing combat. Barely any words were spoken between the couple as they were lost in their own thoughts, wondering how things were about to turn out as every minute that went by felt as if it were a lifetime.

Once she turned onto the road leading towards Isaac's house, Simon became slightly anxious, knowing the time was coming for another gunfight. Slipping on his balaclava, he noticed that Kiera kept the one she was going to wear on the console when she stopped at the gate, seeing the two same officers on guard duty.

"Are they here?"

"Only Isaac." Shahan answered.

"Oh, so Malcolm was here?"

"Yes ma'am."

She huffed, fighting the urge to want to cuss them out. Instead, she looked towards Dylan's guilty expression, knowing the reason why Malcolm left - knowing it wasn't a simple errand. "I need to see the warrant." Shahan said to her, watching her remove the warrant from the console of the truck. "Okay. Go ahead."

She put the truck in gear, letting off the brake before applying it again. "Oh, Officer Dylan. Phone." She said, smirking.

"Uh, why?" Dylan shrugged.

"You don't have anything to hide, right?"

"N-No, ma'am."

"Then give me the phone. Just to clear my suspicion." She said in a convincing tone, watching him hand over the phone, seeing how much it pained him to do it. I've got you now, motherfucker.

"Good day, officers."

"Why'd you take his phone?" Simon asked her as they made their way up the driveway, his sharp gaze on her through his balaclava.

She looked over at him, biting back her sense of arousal of him in his comfort of the balaclava, "My gut tells me that officer has been contacting Malcolm. If my suspicions are right, I'll get him for harboring a fugitive."

He breathed a chuckle, "I swear you can read minds."

"It'll make my job easier, babe. Studying body language was the one thing being in the C.I.A has engraved in my brain." She giggled, parking the truck as she and Simon got out, holding their weapons ahead of them, moving in towards the front door of the house, the air around them unceasingly quiet.

"Clear to enter." Simon whispered, turning the knob on the front door and stepping in to ensure there were no conflicts before letting her enter behind him, the pair splitting up to search the house.

Kiera moved silently up the stairs as Simon searched the main floor, impressed that he didn't hear her walking above him after noticing how some of the boards creaked under his weight.

In the main hallway, she swept throughout the bedrooms, seeing one with an unmade bed and the top sheet on the floor. Looks like you left in a hurry, Malcolm, she smirked, clutching her gun before continuing to what looked like the master bedroom, seeing no sign of life until hearing rustling in the bathroom as well as moving water. You're taking a bath?

Stepping towards the bathroom, she looked to see Isaac enjoying himself in the tub - enjoying himself a little too much as it was clear he was taking care of himself under the water. Stepping in, she watched him gasp before she pulled the trigger, shooting him once in the groin and once in the stomach.

"Kiera!" She heard Simon shout from downstairs, hearing his weight move quickly up the stairs, ready to shoot whoever shot at her first. He made a sweep of every bedroom himself, ensuring nobody else was in the house before entering the master bedroom, seeing her leaning against the doorframe that led into the bathroom, a pleasing smirk on her face as he heard Isaac groaning in pain.

"Look at that. Can't even get yourself off before you die," She taunted, the magazine he had been holding now floating on top of the water. "Where's Fernando?"

"Fuck you!" He groaned, watching Kiera's face turn to anger before she shot at him again, the bullet lodging into his shoulder.

"There's a lot of places I can shoot before you die." She warned.

"Is this how you killed my brother, too?"

"No, your brother, unlike all of the other Shadows, he actually followed orders for once."

"Yeah? What were those orders, huh?" He grumbled, one hand clutching his shoulder and the other clutching his groin, wincing in pain as he wished she would've just shot him between the eyes and leaving him, but he knew she wasn't going to be that easy on him.

"I told that motherfucker to drop dead and he did just that," She said, crouching down to get eye level with him, watching his face bunch up in anger at her words. "Now, this is your last chance to tell me where Fernando is."

"What if I don't?"

She shot him in the opposite shoulder, hearing him scream in pain as he tried to hold his hand up in defense, knowing it wasn't going to do him any good. "I've got three clips of ammo here. I can shoot out of all of them before you die."

"O-Okay!" He groaned, a shocking jolt of pain jarring through him, tasting copper on his tongue as his vision began to blur. "Wyoming cartel house. T-T-That's where he is."

"What are they going to do to him?" She questioned.

"Smuggle him over the border, likely," He huffed, spitting a small amount of blood from between his lips. "They will when Malcolm gets there."

"Not if I get there first."

A chill went down Isaac's spine.

"Please, just kill me. This isn't a way to die." He begged.

"You're right, it's not. Didn't even have a chance of getting off to your Playboy magazine before I came to ruin your day," She laughed. "But, I promised his father I'd kill you."

She stood back to her feet, shooting a final shot to his head before he fell completely limp in the tub, turning to walk by Simon as he took a final look at the carnage she caused, following her to his office after hearing her search through the file folders he had on his desk.

"Shepherd sent him to do research," She sighed, glancing through all of them and cursing once she was denied access to his laptop. "He knew this whole time."

"Yeah, knew." He breathed, watching her gather all of the files and laptop against her chest, following her down the stairs and watching her toss them into the fireplace, grabbing the lighter that was on the mantle and setting it ablaze.

"Hopefully, this place catches fire." She grumbled, standing to her feet, her pride washing over her for finally making a successful contact.

He watched her walk up to him, that familiar gleam in her eye as well as a touch of relief. Like a bloodhound catching onto a trail. She looked up at him, her arms reaching up to grasp the bottom of the balaclava, pulling it up to where it was bunched against his nose before she stood on her toes to press a kiss to his lips. "Couldn't help myself." She said against his mouth.

"I'm not complaining."

She hummed against his mouth, putting her full weight back on her feet as she bit her bottom lip innocently, "Let's go get Alejandro back his son."

Team 141 was preparing for another battle; however, it was a personal war between them as Fernando held a special place in the soldier's hearts as he was a constant reminder of innocence - something all of the soldiers couldn't relate to as they were stripped of their innocence a long time ago.

Each person carried at least two pistols on them, their rifles waiting for them in the truck as Richards himself and two of his trusted deputies coming along with him for the raid. Alejandro sat between Soap and Gaz as Price sat in the passenger's seat with Simon between him and Kiera, Simon's massive frame nearly blocking Kiera's view in the rear-view mirror. The drive was nearly silent, Soap occasionally breaking the silence by a concealed cough or burp, shaking his leg impatiently as the only thing he knew was that they were about to go back into the line of fire.

Blue and red LED lights collided with the night air as they approached the cartel house, stopping roughly a block away to proceed on foot to avoid suspicion. Simon slid his balaclava over his head, breathing heavily as he identified himself as Ghost with it on, leaving the Simon he became to enjoy behind as he didn't want his new personality to collide with his alter-ego.

They regrouped behind a wall of heavy brush, each of them ensuring their weapons were ready to go, Kiera acknowledging Alejandro's nervousness. "You think they have night vision?" Soap asked Ghost.

"Yeah," He nodded. "And thermal. You can bet on it."

"What's our plan?"

"We spread out and move in. Shoot as soon as you have contact. We search thoroughly for Fernando and Malcolm. Try to not kill him immediately." Kiera answered Soap.

"Why?"

"Because just in case Fernando isn't here, we'll need him alive to interrogate."

"If some surrender, detain 'em." Richards told his deputies. "Kiera, you take the lead on this."

"No, this is Alejandro's mission," Kiera replied. "It's his son. We're all watching his six."

"Thank you, senora," Alejandro nodded, keeping his balaclava in the truck as he wanted his enemy to see him, promising himself that his enemy wouldn't live to tell the tale. "Weapons hot, Vaqueros."

Alejandro led the team, both Kiera and Gaz splitting up to take the sides of the home, the sound of heavy metal blasting throughout the house, giving them the advantage to get as close as they could before being spotted. Price and Soap stayed behind Ghost and Alejandro, guarding them from the back as Richards and his men took the opposite close to Gaz, leaving Kiera to do her sweep alone - just as she liked - to work alone.

"Making contact." Ghost said through his comm, Alejandro bursting through the door before he began firing rounds into the cartel, the smell of marijuana strong and potent.

Kiera moved in through the side door, taking out two members of the cartel in the kitchen, one of them being a woman in pajamas, the sight of taking down another innocent woman triggering a slight flashback from the accident in Russia. God, I hope they don't use Fernando as a shield. That will kill me, she frowned.

"Fernando!" Alejandro shouted out of panic, frantic to find his son, letting it distract him briefly as he didn't want his son to be involved in his line of work.

The house was a single story - the team overpowering the cartel members in the house, dropping them like flies as they continued their pursuit. So far, there was no sign of Fernando. No whimpers, no cries, no yelling. Nothing. It scared Kiera, hoping that he didn't get in the way as she began to clear a hallway, stepping over a dead cartel member before using the stock of her rifle to bust open the door at its knob, her face flooding with shock at what she saw.

A cartel member was standing over top of Fernando, clear that he had restrained the boy by binding him with rope and tape, a sock shoved into the boy's mouth to keep him quiet. She was hoping Fernando was hidden and not able to see the carnage taking place in front of him, but she had to do what she didn't want him to see.

She had to shoot the enemy right in front of him, shooting the man in the sternum and watching him fall to the floor next to Fernando, the man's dead eyes staring back at him when his head hit the floor. Blood splattered on the boy's face, causing him to cry behind his restraints as Kiera rushed to cut him free, not wanting his father to see him like this.

"It's okay, I'm here." She cried to the boy, cutting him free of his restraints and easily removing the tape and sock from his mouth, Fernando shrieking and immediately trying to run to safety, jumping between the toilet and sink to corner himself, covering his ears as he cried, hearing the commotion continuing.

She wiped tears from her eyes, steadying her breathing before pressing the button on her comm, "I found him."

Alejandro panicked, finishing off his enemy before he followed the sound of Fernando's cries, marching down the hallway before Kiera stepped out of the bathroom and trying to warn him. "You don't want to see him like this, Alej-"

She gasped, feeling him grasp her vest and pull her out of his way before he entered, his face falling into a frown as he dropped to his knees in front of his son. Kiera stood close to the doorway, continuing to wipe tears from her eyes as the gunfire ceased, Ghost and Gaz meeting up with her to provide any cover as well as any type of support. Ghost's eyes softened at the sight of her, frowning behind his balaclava after seeing how emotional she was. He didn't care that he had a duty to fulfill anymore. Fernando was now safe and everyone on their team was alive. That was all that mattered.

Gently, he pulled her into his chest after she began to cry harder, the bulk of their vests keeping them further apart as she grasped his sides, her tears wetting the nylon straps that secured his mounted holster onto his torso. "He had to watch someone die, Simon." She whimpered, blaming herself for the trauma and nightmares Fernando was about to experience.

"You had to do what you had to do, love," He said lowly, his unarmed and gloved hand securing the back of her head against his chest. "It's not your fault."

"I'm going to go and call the trauma specialist. I'm afraid he's going to need it." She frowned, glancing up at him before making her way to the front door of the house, the rest of the team soon to follow as they escorted Alejandro out of the house, Fernando in his arms as he cried into his father's neck, going straight to the truck instead of regrouping with the rest.

"In all of my years," Price began, crossing his arms over his chest as he kept Gaz, Soap and Ghost close by, the men nearly making a circle as they left Kiera in silence as she made her phone call. "I've never seen this type of evil."

"I'm sure we can all agree," Gaz sighed, nodding his head. "I've had my fair share of hostage situations, but none of them involved a kid. I can't imagine what all he's seen already."

The air was silent around them, Ghost keeping attention on the house while Kiera was still inside, hoping she was the only live soul within its walls.

Within an instant, their heads turned to the sound of a door bursting open from the side of the house - the same side door that Kiera entered in when they first assembled the raid, watching a man running towards the tree line only to fall on his face after a bullet stopped him.

She found Malcolm.

They heard him groan and cry in pain, seeing that Kiera was, again, dragging it out as she used pain to interrogate her deserving victims.

Malcolm groaned and managed to turn himself onto his back, the pistol in his hand desperately trying to aim towards her, Kiera beating him to the shot as another bullet entered his hand, the pistol now a few feet away from him. He shouted, his other hand curling against his palm as Kiera approached him. "Go ahead and scream. Let it all out you son of a bitch," She huffed, stopping next to him. "You deserve a lot worse than this."

"Maybe I do." He groaned.

"Keep screaming, Malcolm. Scream until whatever it is that made you want to take an innocent child to hurt me leaves you. I've been making some progress with this, Malcolm. And you know, if there is a Heaven - I hope so - but this is your chance to tell me something that just might get you in it. Where can I find Shepherd? If you tell me where he is, I'll have a chopper come out here and take you to a hospital."

He forced his head up to look at her, coughing violently as he struggled for breath.

"What is she doing?" Soap asked Ghost as they watched her from a distance.

"Getting answers."

"O-Officer Dylan," He coughed. "He-He's been ensuring our travel between locations."

"Is that right? The same stupid fuck who warned you to leave and come here?"

He nodded weakly.

"Works out to my advantage since I was going to get him for harboring a fugitive anyway," She scoffed, smirking. "I'll call a chopper and get you to a hospital-"

"I'm not going to make it to a hospital."

"You're right, you probably won't, but I gave you my word. Least I'll sleep soundly knowing I kept to it," She replied coldly. Malcolm accepted his fate as she stood over him. "You want me to leave you be so you can die alone like you deserve or do you want me to keep you company to keep reminding you on how you're going to Hell until you take your last breath?"

"A-Alone."

"I was hoping you'd say that."

Price and his men approached her to take their last look at their enemy, watching her walk towards them to meet them nearly halfway. "K-Kiera." Malcolm grumbled weakly.

She turned to give him attention.

"I-I wish we-we never met."

She scoffed, turning her rifle to where it was secured over her torso, "Yeah, I bet you do."

What a cold lass, Price commented to himself as she walked towards Sheriff Richards.

"Sheriff," She shouted to him. "A word."

"Sure."

Her lips pursed as she approached Deputy Dylan, grasping him by his vest and pinning him to the hood of the patrol car, "I'm going to detain him. Seems like your deputy has been keeping in contact with Malcolm."

"No I haven't!"

"Bullshit. That's why you texted him earlier, huh? I could've had them both this morning, but you had to go and run your mouth!" She shouted, pushing him up harder against the vehicle, forcing his hands behind his back after he had tried to refuse. "You're under arrest for association with a criminal and harboring a fugitive."

Richards frowned, disappointed of his trusted deputy, knowing Kiera had a reason to arrest him after learning the news. She turned him to face her, stripping him of his badge and throwing it into the woods, "You don't have a reason to wear this anymore."

"I'll need you down at the station to give your evidence, Officer." Richards added, approaching her.

"I have it all in the truck," She replied, walking towards her vehicle to retrieve the phone she took from him earlier that day, returning back to Richards before she handed it to him. "It's all on here. I looked at it myself."

"Understood. Shahan, put him in the back."

"What's your badge number?" Dylan scoffed at her, grimacing at her as she walked by, looking him in his eyes before she presented her middle finger in front of him.

"There's my badge number."

He wanted to spit at her for her disrespect, but he knew he deserved it.

It hurt his pride more than anything, especially being embarrassed in front of his superior and his coworker as well as the 141.

"I'm getting the fuck out of here. I'm tired and hungry. We've all be distraught since this shit happened." She grumbled to herself as the rest of her team met her back at the truck, tossing their rifles into the bed of the truck before getting in from the cold weather, Ghost removing his balaclava to return to his true self - Simon, as the pat the top of Kiera's thigh to congratulate her for a job well done.

"Great work, team," Price said as he adjusted the vent towards him, his hands begging for warmth. "Let's go home."

Operation Nemesis was the code-name for a covert operation in 1920s to assassinate the turkish masterminds of the Armenian Genocide. The secret operation was headed by Armen Garo, Aaron Sachaklian and Shahan Natalie.

After the end of World War I, the ottoman military tribunal condemned to death the principal "young turk" leaders responsible for planning and execution of the Armenian Genocide. However at the conclusion of the trials the condemned were freed. They fled to European capitals living under assumed names. In the early 1920s, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) at their 9th World Congress held in Yerevan approved a secret resolution called The Special Mission to punish the main perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide. Between 1920-1922 the perpetrators were located and felled by the Armenian avengers.

Soghomon Tehlirian (1896-1960) is rightly considered to be the most famous figure in the special operational group (operation “Nemesis”) and may be considered as a symbol of Armenian revenge. This is due not only to the fact that his target was that most famous criminal, talat, but also because his trial was widely publicised.

Tehlirian was tried for murder, but was eventually acquitted by the twelve-man jury. The trial examined not only Tehlirian’s actions but also Tehlirian’s conviction that talaat was the main author of the Armenian deportation and mass killings.

The defense attorneys made no attempt to deny the fact that Tehlirian had killed a man, and instead focused on the influence of the Armenian Genocide on Tehlirian’s mental state. Tehlirian claimed during the trial that he had been present in Erzincan in 1915 and had been deported along with his family and personally witnessed their murder. When asked by the judge if he felt any sort of guilt, Tehlirian remarked, “I do not consider myself guilty because my conscience is clear…I have killed a man. But I am not a murderer.”
