I HAVE RETURNED FROM THE FNAF MOVIE AND I HAVE SOME THOUGHTS

✨ Non-spoiler section ✨

I had such a fun time with this movie! There were a ton of Easter eggs I caught and I’m sure there’s a few that I missed! My best advice for anyone wanting to see this movie is don’t take it super seriously, you’ll enjoy it more! The makers of this film weren’t lying when they said that they made this movie for the fans, I do feel like fans will enjoy this movie way more than a general audience and that’s perfectly fine! It’s campy at some parts and funnier than I thought it would be, but that’s what made it so fun! Now for the nitty-gritty…

What I liked…

• First off, Matthew Patrick is a fucking LIAR! He does have a cameo in the movie, he says his iconic “That’s just a theory” line which was great! He’s a waiter at a diner, which leads me to my next point

• The diner was named “Sparky’s”, which I feel like only OG fans will get the reference. But for those of you who don’t know, back when FNAF 1 came out, there was a rumor of a secret/rare animatronic in the game called Sparky the Dog. There was a fake image floating around showing him standing in the door to parts and service. This was later confirmed to be fake. BUT! In the movie they also have a dog-looking animatronic in the parts and service room which absolutely took me out lol

• Acting was great! Everyone was fun to watch, Josh Hutcherson was a great lead as Mike and Piper Rubio was so sweet as Abby but I gotta give my props to Matthew Lillard towards the end of the movie, he looked like he was having so much fun being this unhinged monster! Speaking of…

• There is a spring lock scene!! It is real!! And God was it cathartic to watch! Obviously being PG-13, they couldn’t do blood and guts galore, but I think they managed to pull it off pretty well! Afton’s scene was definitely my favorite in the film hands down! And yes, he gets his “I always come back” line which put 5 years back on my life if I’m being honest lmao

• There is blood in this movie! Not a gratuitous amount, but it was enough for what they were going for I think! The kills of the people breaking to Freddy’s were more entertaining to watch than I thought! Especially Freddy’s kill…that caught me completely off guard lmao

• There aren’t too many jumpscares but that was fine with me! They do this repeat jumpscare with a little figurine of Balloon Boy like 3 times and I thought it was funny every time! They do a really good job with tension in this movie!

• The animatronics!!!! LOVED THEM!!!! They were so detailed and well designed, they were so fun to watch!! The Jim Henson company did an absolutely stellar job with the designs, I want to hug them 🥺

• So the story…I thought it was fine! They do stray from canon by making Vanessa Afton’s daughter in the movie instead of Mike being his son. They do confirm Afton was the one who kidnapped and killed Mike’s brother Garrett. The story is kind of left open ended as if they could continue the story (which I hope they do), but I think it leaves a more or less satisfying ending!

• There’s a minor mid-credit scene with Cory Kenshin and a secret message at the very end of the credits. I couldn’t hear it well but it’s spelled-out letters exactly like the ones from the death minigames in FNAF 2

• Yes, The Living Tombstone’s FNAF song is in the end credits, I felt my soul leave my body 😭

Minor Negatives…

• The story is slow at the beginning, it takes a little bit for anything super interesting to take place

• There are some plot points that don’t get explained or resolved (which is par for the course for FNAF) but that leads me to believe that they want to make sequels which I am all here for

• The Aunt Jane character wasn’t super important, she was fine, but she was there just to serve as an antagonist to Mike for a whole 5 minutes of the movie, if that

• I wanted so much more Afton/Spring Bonnie time, it was too short for me but I am happy with what I got. Also, he didn’t wear any purple in the movie which I think is a crime 😂

• Kind of wish there was an R rated version of this movie even though FNAF isn’t known for being bloody and gory, but some parts felt a little tame

• Also please correct me if I’m wrong but, they didn’t use the Toreador March music at all?? If I missed it, please tell me but I was waiting to hear it and it never came from what I remember

Speculation…

• So the biggest plot issue for me was that they never explained Afton’s intentions for killing. I think fans of the games know why he’s killing, but the general audience won’t. I’m sure it has something to do with the saw blade machine that tries to stuff your head into Freddy’s head. But it wasn’t clear. Vanessa never gave us a straight answer either even though she was in on it from the beginning.

• Towards the beginning of the movie, Abby is shown to be talking to her “invisible friend”, this is before Mike is hired as Freddy’s security guard. Turns out that friend is the ghost kid who possess Golden Freddy/Fredbear (again, isn’t clear lol). I wanna know why that kid showed up before Mike and Abby even went to the location??

• I may be reading too much into this, but when Mike goes in to get a new job after being fired from his mall security guard job, he’s talking to “Steve” and Steve does something interesting. He’s berating him for his inability to hold down a job, the he looks at his name on the file and just goes “…Mike S…” and just, doesn’t finish saying his name. He looks at Mike really weird like he’s trying to find something, and then just completely changes the subject. IDK, I’ll probably have to watch it again, and I think it would be a stretch to go the “Mike Afton” route especially since they established Vanessa was his kid. But ya never know with FNAF 😂

• Also the secret message that was spelled out at the end of the credits. If any of y’all know what they spelled, please tell me because I could not figure it out! I would love to know what it said!

Conclusion…

I just had a blast with this movie! I wasn’t sure what to expect with this movie but I think Blumhouse and everyone who worked on this movie did an amazing job, you can tell they put so much heart and soul into this! I will patiently be awaiting the announcement of the next movie until then!

Hello I’m Dino! I wanted to make an introduction post for my tumblr since I decided I wanted to start posting to motivate myself and others! I thought it would be nice to list my personal goals, interests, etc. :)

Goals

Work towards a 4.5 gpa: I have currently maintained a 4.2 gpa for this school year I wish it was 4.5, but I have 2 b’s :( So I’m going to work towards a 4.5 for this last quarter and senior year!

Become a better speaker: My ultimate career is to be a lawyer! With that comes working to be a better speaker. I get quite nervous when it comes to taking to a large group of people and start to talk fast. On top of this at my mock trial meet I messed up my direct horribly because of how nervous I was to talk in front of the judge and jury :,)

Get best lawyer during Mock Trial Comp: I won best attorney this year, but I don’t think I deserved it…I want to be more confident in my win this time around!

4 or 5 on AP Exams: I want to get a 4 or 5 on both my AP Lang and APUSH Exams in May! I need to study and practice hard though, but I’m willing to put the hard work in ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Practice flute more often: I play the flute for my schools band and while I have only been playing for 7 months now I have to keep up with people who have been playing for 5+ years :,) With that I want to practice more to keep up and for my personal interest of just becoming more skilled with the flute!

Turing in homework on time: I have made a bad habit of turning my homework in late which is so bad oml I need to get out of it

Exercise: I want to start working out regularly to lose some weight :) While I’m at a healthy weight I just want to lose a few pounds for aesthetic purposes, but in a healthy manner!

Love myself more: I forget to remind myself that I have gotten so far and I have evolved over the years. I want to make sure that I know that I’m worthy of love even when I’m at my lowest.

Music: I’m a big fan of all genres (even some country songs too) but I’m a big listener of k-pop! WHAUSHAHH!!!!! OTAY!!!

I don’t really know how to talk about stuff without being asked specific questions but I’ll give it my best shot!!!!!

So in my lore? I guess is the word? Mike and my S/I met during the FNAF 3 era (technically a little while before FNAF 3 starts, but while he’s working at Fazbear’s Fright). We’re coworkers, he’s the security guard while I’m a set designer (though I kinda do a little bit of everything because the manager (phone dude) is a cheapskate and knows he can just make me do it)

But also this takes place after SL, so he’s been scooped and is trying his best to avoid people and live in the shadows. The only reason he works here is because he’s trying to track down his dad.

So it kinda takes a while for us to meet, since we’re both the avoiding-people type. But eventually the manager has me install some stuff in his office (probably the manual reboot panel, since it’s likely there have been a lot of problems in the building that would require that) and we finally meet. I get a crush on him, like, immediately, and he’s kinda. hdhsh. Interested in me I guess? And he’s only supposed to work the nightshift but he starts spending more time at the attraction. He tells himself it’s to do more digging on where his dad might be, and in part it is, but also he just wants to spend more time with me (😳)

So that goes on like that for a while, but the more he starts to develop feelings the more he starts to panic, because he feels like he destroys everything he touches and if he gets too close to me he’ll ruin me and get me hurt, not to mention he feels like he doesn’t deserve good things. So he starts giving me the cold shoulder, which leaves me super confused because I thought we were growing to be friends.

So I go and try and ask him what’s going on, and he ends up lashing out, trying to scare me away. I just kinda freeze, leaving him to storm out pushing past the manager, who thinks he’s gonna quit.

The next day is Night 1 of FNAF 3.

The day after that, I get called out to investigate a lead the manager found, leading me to unearth the old Springbonnie animatronic from the old abandoned Fredbear’s Diner. Not knowing what’s inside, I bring it back to Fazbear’s Fright.

While looking it over in a supply closet, Michael spots me with the animatronic, and completely panics. He knows almost instantly who’s inside, and knows that if he finds out how Michael feels about me, he’ll kill me for sure. He needs to think of a way to get me out of the building, and fast, so he ends up yelling at me, telling me he doesn’t want me around him.

It works to get me to leave the area, but not the building, as my RSD is flaring up, and finding out that someone I thought liked me actually hates me is literally my worst fear, so I break down crying by the front door. And of course, Springtrap’s not stupid, he can see through his son’s ruse, so he makes a beeline straight for me.

Michael sees Springtrap attack me on the cameras, and freaks out, drawing him away with the audio lures before running to come get me. He brings me back to the security office, and we spend a very tense and stressful six hours together.

At 6AM, Springtrap stops moving, and Mike’s been through this song and dance twice before, so he knows it’s safe to leave, and offers to drive me home. Confused, injured and still a bit scared, I agree.

He offers to give me first aid once we get to my apartment, and again, I agree, but I make him explain what the hell’s going on while he does so. Reluctantly, he does, and admits why he said he hated me, and that he’s actually in love with me.

Uguvuhhh yeah there’s some more after that obvi buts that’s the more set in stone stuff I have so far. Sorry it was kinda angsty lmao

Thank you for 100 followers! It makes me very proud to see that this many people like my content so as a ‘thank you’ I will do a prompt event.

I’ve seen many other writers use desserts or flowers but I felt that it didn’t fit me as a person or my username. So, I decided Classical music pieces because I didn’t have anything else I could think of that wasn’t...Odd. I was originally going to do animals (questionable I know) but decided that something I am well versed in is better instead of a Capybara themed prompt. (I might do animals in the future though for the funny.)

I caused my friends to think about and have a genuine discussion with me on the furby reproductive cycle.

Me and my friends once had an in depth, roughly week long discussion on the ethics of cannibalism. And we even put a questionnaire up on Reddit to see some outside opinions.

It still baffles me that people experience sexual attraction.

When I was a kid, I got stuck on top of the kitchen cabinets and my older sister had to help me down. I still didn’t stop trying to climb the cabinets after this happened.

I was the kinda kid that liked to set stuff on fire. I never caused any massive damage, but I did get yelled at for it many times.

I currently have a mannequin head sitting on top of my dresser. And it is not one of those styrofoam mannequins. It is plastic and has a painted face. I have not yet named her. I want to repaint her face to have more gore before I do so.

I made a sculpture of a snail, spider, scorpion, bee hybrid and named it Page. And I love them with all my heart.

I once planned on making a sexy Minecraft cosplay of the red parrot, but I never finished it. I still have the half finished head sitting on top of my dresser.

I did quilling of a strawberry finch and named it Berdinand Reginald the 3rd.

I’ve only ever had crushes on fictional characters.

My usual reaction to injuring myself is “oh that’s inconvenient.” And this reaction will still apply even if there is blood dripping on the floor.

Once while playing with a dog, it couldn’t reach my hands or arms, and so it bit me in the boob since that was the next closest thing.

I love songs that include random noises into the music. Like the Daycare theme from FNAF SB or Cilantro by Patricia Taxxon.

My favorite Bryan David Gilbert quote is a tie between 3 “If someone introduces themselves to me as Duke Mirage, my pants are already off.” “You don’t have to be good at cooking to do this. You just have to be good at arson.” And “I need to know where Donkey Kong pees.”

My empathy is extremely inconsistent. I can be extremely empathetic at times and other times have no empathy at all.

I just got the image of you and Thirteen crafting in your room on the floor, laughing together because its a bit of mess (its a huge fucking mess but thats fine) because one of her contraptions uh...malfunctioned a little...and there was glitter. She loves dark humour, and even if you aren’t Inky you give off the vibes that you would also enjoy that. Also being alive as she has been, chaotic topics of conversation are more than welcome as her morals can also be a little...questionable, but the lightheartedness in every conversation is a nice distraction from her job, which does get to her sometimes. 

As you guys craft, Asmodeus busts in a little pouty that you started without him, but he quickly cheers up as he gets to show off the new skirt he made, he’s just going to embezzle it now with you two. That extra glitter? He’ll cast a spell to add it to his fabric because it wasn’t sparkly enough on its own apparently. He’ll make himself comfy somewhere, in the most uncomfortable-looking pose...y’know how ballet dancers/gymnasts find “comfy” positions? Yeah, that’s him. 

When it comes to emotions, it’s a mixed bag with the three of you, and you can either balance each other perfectly or all three of you are in the same bag- which is nice when it’s positive, but if all three of you are in a funk, it’s likely you’re just lying on top of each other on your bed and listening to music. Maybe even each of you has your own headphones. No other noise. You guys either sleep it off, or someone else has to come in and either piss all of you off to get you to blow off some steam or do the complete opposite and coax you guys nicely out of your funk. This person usually ends up being Solomon or Mammon lskajdgsalhdgsa

You and Thirteen share kind of the same mindset when it comes to injury, however Asmo does not- the moment either of you get injured he is fussing over you and he will pamper you until he’s sure you’ll be mostly safe.

Some Honest FnaF: Security Breach Thoughts (SPOILERS!)

I gotta be honest here, I’m kinda dissapointed in Security Breach.

No, not because of the glitches or bugs, or any other weird jank that’s come out of it, I just think as a whole It’s little ‘meh’ in terms of gameplay, scares and story.

Don’t get me wrong there are a few great moments here and there (The Daycare Attendant and DJ Music Man are my highlights) but overall it just felt kind of lacking.

When it comes to gameplay, nothing feels as fleshed out as it should, like take Freddy for instance. He’s supposed to be a core gameplay element that you are supposed to use regularly and rely on, but from what i’ve seen and hear, most people don’t.

Many see him as too much of a hinderance, he loses charge too quickly, he’s too slow, he can’t puch buttons or grab collectables, plus he just can’t be used in many moments of the game.

The animatronics are honestly pretty easy to avoid what with all the open space, so I guess their solution was to have them attracted to you by the security bots right? Cleaver solution except the security bots are EVERYWHERE and end up being far more annoying than scary or anything simply due to the sheer number of them.

Speaking of being scared, this honestly feels like the weakest game in the franchise for me on that front. Again with such wide open spaces and a multitude of ways to defend yourself like the laser gun and camera nothing feels quite a scary as ever before. Again DJMM and Sun/Moon are the rare exception but literally nothing else ever scared me aside from the odd, cheap jumpscare. Not even any unsettling themes are really present in this game which brings us to my final point, the story.

The story, in my opinion, Is the biggest let down of them all. I was so excited to see this ‘new era’ of Fnaf with Vanny as a new villain and perhaps a new mystery to solve! But that’s unfortunatley not how it really turned out. Firstly, the story if played through normally leaves waaay too many unanswered questions, and I’m not just talking about your usual ‘what’s really going on behind the seams here’ kind of questions, more questions like ‘soooo, are the animatronics actually evil and trying to kill me or are they actually just going to escort me home like they and Vanessa keep saying they will?’ and ‘Why do I suddenly know Vanny’s name even though at no point during this route do we ever find that out?’ and ‘why was I hiding in freddy of all places?’ and so on and so forth.

And then there is the actual story itself, that I’ve managed to piece together from what’s in the game and it’s endings. It turns out that all along Vanny was not the true villain, it was Glitchtrap! well duh, we already knew that but actually it’s not just Glitchtrap but William Afton is STILL ALIVE!!!!..............AGAIN!!!!..... -_-

Look, William Afton’s story was great, it was really interesting to learn what happened to him back in fnaf 3 but he has now survived through being springlocked, locked in a room for like 30 years or something and no less than 2 FIRES! So ok, he can’t be killed. Great. ‘I always come back’ ok fine. Then what’s the point? What is the point of once again defeating him in this game, when he’s probably just going to come back YET AGAIN later down the line. God even all the old animatronics are now back in ‘The Blob’ even THEY can’t get a rest. They and we are forced to do this song and dance over and over forever. Vanny, in most endings of the game is either killed or cured, so she’s out of the picture now I guess. Great. Why bother having a new villain when you can recycle the old one endlessly amirite guys????

To me the whole game in terms of story felt... kinda pointless.. like this game is just a small blip on the massive and confusing timeline. nothing really changes throughout this game, nothing is really added, no new interesting concepts, just good ol’ reliable, William Afton again.

Anyway, sorry if this post was overly negative I just wanted to spew out some thoughts I had rattling about in my head, as I just spent the majority of the week catching up on fnaf lore and theories to build up to this game only for it to fall kinda flat.

In all honesty, I don’t hate this game or anything It’s just kinda dissapointing.

I’m hopeful there might be more secrets and lore that I don’t know about that might make me change my tune, but for now, yeah.

He will sit with you and try to help you breathe, hold your hands, give you some water, and lastly, he's very reassuring.

After the panic attack, he will carry you to bed, make you two a snack, and cuddle you all day if given the chance.

Did You Miss Me?: Darkiplier in 2018

For the most part, 2018 was a quiet year. In contrast with 2017, where we were gratified to see Dark's monochromatic visage throughout the year, 2018 carried playful hints and teasing of the elusive entity's presence but no confirmation. There were thumbnails and quick flashes that indicated He was continuing to pull strings, ensuring that His presence was felt but His face never really seen.

Throughout 2017, He'd show up during what us mere mortals consider major holidays or important events. Valentine's Day. Easter. Even Cinco de Mayo got a nod. And of course, the infamous Friday the 13th late in the year.

But 2018? He apparently decided to stay home in the void during our days of revelry, with the possible (though not confirmed) exception of the decidedly strange Fall in Love with Markiplier video for Valentine's Day. And for the TWO Friday the 13ths in 2018? He was a no-show. In 2017, He'd returned to shake things up in our safe little lives... and in 2018, He left us wanting more, like the skilled manipulative seducer He is.

Getting Over It, Part 8 included a thumbnail with Mark's dour expression and a suspiciously familiar colour scheme. The thumbnail for WATCH OUT!! had Mark reaching for us in a state of panic (which belied the contents of the video itself). 

Try Not to Smile Challenge #3, while the smile-free serial killer laugh is creepy, it's not a Darkiplier moment. Though, him joking near the end of the video that people who didn’t smile at some point during the video are "soulless demons" does seem to be a Darkiplier reference of some kind (or maybe a Devilplier reference, since the Cuphead song was released just two months later)?

In Madison, when his game character watches a television that glitches and fades to static, Mark fearfully squeaks, "Darkiplier, is that You?!" While in the description for End My Suffering, just ten days later, Mark wailed, "What malevolent being did I piss off to be cursed like this!"

Brother Wake Up promised "I’ll try to help in whatever way I can but you have to wake up!" Which, while it fit perfectly with the title of the game, the description also fit pretty damn well into the channel lore too. And Umfend's description was likewise ominous: "You shouldn't have forgotten about me... I'll make you remember..."

Meanwhile, the title for the video of Welcome The The Game 2.0 doubles as a callback to an earlier Darkiplier moment: "Don't Play This Game". Horns of Fear did it one better, with the thumbnail featuring many eyes staring out at the viewer (again with an all-too-familiar colour scheme), while the title warned us "DON'T LOOK AWAY..."

In the Warframe playthrough late in the year, Mark's camera briefly freezes. But in 3 Scary Games #9, his camera freezes repeatedly before glitching back to normal, and he implies that "there's something else" messing with the camera. In 5 Nostalgic Games, when Mark gives the definition of ubiquitous and bares his teeth while saying "We're learning today!", the video suddenly glitches. 

The thumbnail for Markiplier has fled the country had Mark lunging at the camera, his face completely darkened by shadow. And the thumbnail for 3.75 Scary Games blatantly toyed with the fandom with text shouting "DARKIPLIER?"

And the fanbaiting didn't stop there. More thumbnails that hinted at Dark included a hand bathed in blue light reaching out to the viewer for the fittingly titled The Devil Haunts Me, and a cartoon of Mark cowering away from Dark's furious glare for You're Perfect.  

Markiplier's Tour: The Movie featured the improv teacher stating that Markiplier wasn't at the shows. "I don't know who that guy was, but it wasn't him." Even the Markiplier Animated short I've Got Boobs?! features a brief scene of a shadowy Darkiplier rising from a well and whispering something unintelligible.

For the most part however, the teasing came directly from out of Mark’s mouth.

In 3 Scary Games #5, Mark jokes that a ghost (clad in the classic white sheet and glitching somewhat) is Darkiplier. 3 Scary Games #13, the first (jokey) game called "Death Trips" features RGB text and Mark narrating in an echoing voice. In Midnight Shift, a game where Mark is memorably being chased by mannequins, he jokes that an RGB poster on a wall is "expricitly [sic] Darkiplier". In SCP Containment Breach #57, Mark jokes when he sees the intro screen of a pretty lady in 3D with an open third eye, "Look at this Darkiplier ass thing... it's like Celine, straight out of [Who Killed Markiplier?]". 

In 3 FNAF Fan Games, he even chortles that the game has “Darkiplier letters.” In Devil Daggers, he scoffs, “A high-pitched ringing in the darkness. That’s always good.”

Just before midsummer, I received a pleasant surprise. In Imscared: Steam Edition, Mark says "I gotta go get back into the Shadow Realm, the Upside Down." Which, personally, made me very happy at the time. Since I first became active on Tumblr in July 2017, I've been referring to Dark's void dimension as the Shadow Realm, while Mark has referred to it in the past as the Upside Down, making the link fairly clear in this statement. (Somehow, whether by happy accident or serendipity, my terminology and its proper context made its way to Mark. As a fan, I can't describe how pleased that made me, to know he might have actually seen something I’ve made.)

(But enough about me. I’m just an obsessive Darkiplier fangirl. So let’s get back to cataloging all the hinty goodness!)

By this point, you’re probably wondering, “Okay, so all those hints are decent. But where the hell is Dark in all of this?!” But that’s the point, my friends: He was there the whole time. In brief flashes of imagery, in hints and innuendo. Unseen, but his presence clearly felt as our expectations were played with by our channel host.

We expected a wild ride at the beginning, when Mark made two brief livestreams on January 5th, wandering through the theatre he was slated to play for the You’re Welcome Tour. 

The first of the two, “What’s Going In?!”, he showed us the back area of the Paramount Theatre, using only improvised narration and acting to build an atmosphere of dread. He claimed the theatre was haunted, and that he could smell “the scent of death”, ultimately vowing to protect those who would be visiting the theatre to see him that night. He also declares the EXIT a trap, before being pursued by an unseen entity.

The drama continued with “...” (a title that is impossible to find using Youtube’s search options), that begins with an eerie quiet. Tyler eventually finds Mark’s dropped phone. He asks the viewers where Mark is, before going on a search. He’s eventually attacked from behind and the stream cuts off, leaving those who weren’t at the show that night to wonder how the matter resolved.

In Simulacra, there's a brief flash of Mark in his Big Mood outfit with text saying "WAKE UP". When the simulacra changes the colour of the cellphone's display and begins to speak in a calm, creepy voice, Mark reflexively responds, "Darkiplier?" and sounding unnerved at the mention of "behind your black mirrors", then being stunned as the screen appears to crack.

At the end of Simulacra, he gives an uncharacteristically downbeat speech, declaring that "We're all just digital copies of ourselves, idealized in a digital form. And maybe that's the way that life is just supposed to be. Maybe we should all just roll over and accept it, because there's nothing that we can do to change our fates, after all. And who's to say that it's not better for us just to wear the masks that are our digital personas, and live our lives as those? Maybe that is for the best."

The How To Make Slime video goes from harmlessly silly and takes a twist for the stabby. Mark declares "In order to appease the Dark Gods..." then he instructs the viewer to slice their palm and "whisper the words of power." The words in question? "They shall rise. They shall consume. All will be lost when they rise from the darkness of the ocean. Madness opens up to everything." When the making of the slime is concluded, he adds that "We all get to enjoy three years of peace before the Dark Gods consume us all."

I have no idea what that means, but I’m pretty sure it may involve Cthulhu chomping on my kidneys. (Then again, Darkiplier is a Lovecraftian monstrosity Himself. So, if it’s Him who’s one of the Dark Gods? He can have a kidney from me if He’s really that hungry. Kidneys are a redundant system anyway, so you really only need one.)

April Fool’s Day brought us the gag gift of The Official Markiplier Rock, with a suspiciously deep voice informing us that the rock is available in white. Additionally, the video warned to alert the SCP Foundation if the rock appears to start talking! (What? My rock has been talking to me since I got it, and there’s nothing wrong with me!)

Baldi’s Basics: Secret Ending featured an explanation about attaining the secret ending, with Mark’s otherwise normal voice echoing slightly with subtle white noise effects. (Hmmm...)

In December, for the charity livestream and archived in a video called Santa Spills The Tea, a Santa Claus that sounded suspiciously like Wilford Warfstache declared that Dark, the master manipulator and Big Bad of Mark’s channel, was a “sweetheart! He shouts a lot, but he’s just a big ol’ pussy. He can’t even possibly… he didn’t hurt anybody! He didn’t kill one person! If there’s anybody who’s on my naughty li— uh, on my list of people who’ve been bad, he’s the only one not on it.” (And mind you, in 2017′s Markiplier TV, Wilford sang a little ditty about how he killed Santa Claus and the kids wouldn’t be getting any presents that year. And Dark still convinced us to shoot someone in A Date With Markiplier, while apparently feigning regret. But heck, use your own judgement.)

Mark also dropped one heck of a hint of things to come in, of all places, Markiplier Tries Korean Beauty Products. There, the descriptive intro to the following year’s DAMIEN animated feature can be heard at one point. “Snow blankets the field, a pristine meadow of untouched white. No animals call. No birds cry. Only the steady rustling of wind through dead trees accented by the impact of his axe. A crack-like thunder rings out as the ancient pine finally succumbs to his murderous assault. The old giant crashes into the ground. Dami-”

Wilford Motherloving Warfstache was, of course, focused on the mustachioed entity. But there were elements to the short film that felt like Darkiplier was watching along with us. Particularly the VHS-style glitch at the end of the film.

Of course, there were only three videos that year that potentially contained Darkiplier himself.

One candidate is Fall in Love with Markiplier. Yes, the name on the title is Mark’s... but is it really him? The entirety of the film is a fourteen minute staring contest with Mark, as he lovingly (and somehow also creepily) gazes at the viewer in different settings -- by the ocean, at a dog park, and in a bubble bath. The only spoken words are in the intro, over the strains of the music from A Date with Markiplier: “It’s scientifically proven that you can fall in love with someone simply by maintaining eye-contact for an extended period of time. So now, you can fall in love with Markiplier all over again in these three locations. Happy Valentine’s Day.”

The second candidate is World’s 5th Quietest Let’s Play, released just 5 days prior to the Let’s Have a Romantic Staring Contest video. Unlike the previously mentioned video, there’s more going on this time around. The game to be played quietly this time around is Bennett Foddy’s infamous rage-inducing creation “Getting Over It”. 

He threatens the developer with the words, “You will see the inside of your entrails, when I drag them out of your abdomen and show them to you.” (Ah, how romantic.) He goes even further than that, saying soon after, “This is a representation of My sins... You will be purged in the fires of absolution, along with all of your ilk. I will burn the heretics that you are harbouring inside of your soul... I will destroy you.” (Now there’s the smite-happy Hellgod we all love!)

But He doesn’t stop there, snarling under His breath, “You will burn in the fires of My own hell! And I will choose your pain to last eternity!” However, He is ultimately defeated by the game, departing our company with  “Alas, I leave you now, to slumber amongst the ancients.” (Aww, poor guy needs a hug. And I know just who’s ready to snuggle with Him...)

But the last of the video to potentially contain Darkiplier is... the four-hour long play through of Hearts & Heroes. Is it canon Dark? No, probably not. It’s a fan game, though the words of dialogue are acted out by Mark himself. But rather than simply recounting key phrases for you, here’s the Boss Battle between Mark’s team and Dark, edited by the lovely icedpinkpeebles (Mark’s goofy character names and all!):

So, what does all of this ultimately mean? Why did Darkiplier fade into the background in 2018? And, most importantly, what is He up to now?

The truth is I don’t know any more than you do. I can only guess.

But I can tell you this: We don’t know Darkiplier as well as we all think we do. Many of us (including me) fully expected Dark to raise hell following the events of the jokey Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye video in 2017 (because He did mention how He hates being mocked!). And while we did get more Dark at the end of that year, it was in the form of an origin story.

Whatever Dark’s planning, we’re not going to see it coming. Because He’s playing a long game. And when you’re immortal like He is, you have all the time in the world to get what you want. Be it for love or revenge, Darkiplier remains a force to be reckoned with.

But here we are, in the eye of the storm. Only time will tell before the final wrath of the hurricane makes landfall.
