Random question with zero context or prompt other than my ADHD-ass brain: What do you think about ‘rehoming fees’? - (i’m applying this to all animals)

I know it’s a thing in pet stores cause retail and keeping businesses afloat/profiting but it obviously happens on sites like Preloved, Pets4homes and Craigslist etc. - you’ll very rarely get an animal for free (unless it’s an absolute dire emergency or someone needs something gone asap).

Like even rescues ask for a rehoming fee (that makes more sense tho bc they need money to provide for the other animals and expenses as they’re non-profit).

Personally (even tho no one asked) I think it’s still a form of purchasing but less direct, since it’s not usually sold at the original full price the person paid. Idk it’s just an interesting topic to think about (unless it’s just me lol).

SO. I can understand why people charge a rehoming fee (“the economy is in shambles”) and honestly, we’ve paid rehoming fees before. Even expensive ones… *side eyes Lórien and Rohan*

And like. In general, I don’t mind it. I think a small rehoming fee is even a semi reasonable request sometimes, and if they’re selling the equipment that the animal comes with, that’s cool too.

We’ve had all types, some more than once:

Second Breakfast: completely free, didn’t come with set up, my guy was just going through it and even though he genuinely loved this snake (apparently he was well known through the community for loving this animal to bits) he wasn’t able to take care of her properly so reached out to us after seeing us posting about husbandry.

Biscoff: also without setup because we had an enclosure at home and it was a friend (now ex friend 🔪) rehoming.

A Bunch Of Tarantulas: small fee! Paid friend who then also taught us about proper keeping of different kinds.

Teacake: Paid for the enclosure she came in and that’s it! And it was a Big Fuckin Enclosure, AND she was from a rescue, and we don’t mind rehoming fees from rescues because I think rescues are awesome.

And.. Lórien and Rohan. Who we paid a frankly extortionate amount of money for because this man put them up for rehoming on Gumtree, both being kept in a tiny shitty box on hamster bedding, emaciated and near death, and honestly we shouldn’t have paid him but like hell were we going to leave them there

So it’s not black and white tbh! I think rehoming fees are also a good way of stopping people who want animals for abuse purposes, or aren’t experienced, or a menagerie of other reasons, but I also don’t believe they should be charging ridiculous amounts too.

So it’s Kabru right. Laios’s regent is Kabru. If anything happened to Laios, Kabru would have regency. He would have control over the kingdom. If he wanted. Because he knows how to kill people and could easily take that power for himself. But he won’t, because he likes Laios and thinks he’s a good king. But he could.

I didn’t realize Kabru had This much power. He’s essentially next-in-line until Laios produces an heir.

I find it so interesting that the Calamity character art was stained glass and full of majesty and for Downfall, where they are playing actual gods, the art is so humble and mundane. Really drives home the hubris of the Age of Arcanum.

There's an essay in there somewhere, but idk if I have the energy to write it.
