funniest part about tf2 is that out of all the mercs, spy is probably the least cartoony and most "realistic"/most proportionate of them but bc hes put next to these guys with hands the size of melons and strangely long/short limbs and funny sized heads he looks like just as much of, if not more of, a freak

Kept getting over heated last night and had a BUNCH of weird dreams. At one point the the blonde boy from red white and royal blue was there, so then the plot of my dream fully STOPPED and it became an actual truvada commercial. IN my dream. Trying to sell me truvada. Hi! Hope you don't mind me asking but I've been meaning to ask, could you explain where exactly the names Joke and Dagger came from for the spies? Is it a widely accepted fanon thing or their actual names ?? No worries if you're not sure yourself and i just wanna say I absolutely love your art!!

As far as I'm aware, Joke and Dagger aren't official names for the spies, but they have been widely accepted fanon for at least two decades. I'm not certain of the names' usage prior to the online fanbase activity in the late 90's - early 2000's (presumably after MADtv began to air) or who was the first person to refer to the spies as such. "Joke and Dagger" itself stems from the section of MAD Magazine in which Spy vs Spy is featured being titled the "Joke & Dagger Department", as a play on the phrase "cloak and dagger".

The only other names used for the spies rather than Black and White are Jackel and Heckel, which came from the guidebook for the Japanese release of the Island Caper video game. I choose to dismiss these names due to the fact that they seem to have been given by the video game company and don't relate to anything within the comics or other SvS media. That, and Heckel and Jeckel are the names of a cartoon bird duo predating the spies -it's literally one letter different.

I prefer Joke and Dagger for Black and White, respectively, as they fit my headcanons and interpretations of the characters. I see Black Spy being more of a trickster sort, and White Spy more vicious.
