My K/S Novel Is Now Complete!
Tumblr media
Some of you might remember me posting snippets of it week-to-week. I'm super excited to share that it's now fully complete, clocking in at 26 chapters (and a title page), spanning over almost 166,262 words. I worked incredibly hard on this and I'm so happy to have this work finished.
Here is the link to it, with more details under the cut.
I Shall Do Neither (166262 words) by onwhatcaptain Chapters: 27/27

When T’Pau tells Spock to live long and prosper, he knows he shall do neither. This is a story about men who love each other, and the lengths they will go to for one another. - Foolish, he thinks. I have been a fool.
How he had wanted so desperately to prove his Vulcan side. How all his life it had felt like a performance, and yet, to be finally subject to the most Vulcan thing of all destroyed him. The stripping of logic. All sense torn from him. His carefully constructed barriers had collapsed like a flimsy house of cards. To be granted his wish this way was a type of mockery. How he had wanted to be fully Vulcan. To prove that the blood which runs through his veins was not so human.
How wanting had been better than having.

Looking at what we’ve seen so far and what has been revealed and teased in interviews I have a few DM predictions/thoughts. Would love to hear yours and @cbrownjc opinions! First some observations:
1. Louis attacking Daniel in the 70’s, his and Armand’s fight (the clip of Armand repeating Lestat’s name), Armand’s ’Gentleman Death’ speech, biting of Daniel - all seems to occur during the same night/24 hours, as they are wearing the same clothes. All clips so far from the 70’s seem to take place during the same day(s). Could be intentional, a way of obscuring as much as possible or alternatively a lot of S02E05 will take place during the same few days in the 70’s.
2. The scene in S02E02 of Louis and Armand talking about the ’young men’ is framed in such a way as to imply that Daniel might have been one of these men. Additionally at least one review has talked about there being a ’couple/third’ dynamic in the show (as well as a hunter/prey dynamic and more). However as screeners have so far only seen episodes 1-6, this could be based on speculation/good(?) story literacy rather than on what has actually happened explicitly in the show thus far. Or this dynamic comes into play before/during Daniel’s first interview with Louis.
3. In an interview with the Nerdist EB answered when asked if viewers will see anything of Daniel and Armand’s complex relationship this season: ”We’re going to have to leave that to your imagination because there is a lot coming. But I guarantee there will be some cool stuff happening by the end of the second season”. And also: ”But, it’s also going to be heavy. There’s going to be a lot of heaviness.”
4. Taking into considerations what we know about Armand’s tragic and horrific back story, AZ’s comments about Armand, about Armand’s relationship with Louis and his fascination with Daniel (which starts at the original interview) we know that Armand is desperate to be loved (and love), that he needs/craves control (fully understandable) but also wants to be loved and seen for everything that he is (which implies a need to relinquish control and be vulnerable).
Taking all these aspects together I’m going to guess that Daniel might have hooked up with Louis at his and Armand’s flat before the interview started. After revealing thet he is in fact a vampire Daniel is told ”Don’t be afraid, start the tape” (heard in the trailer) and the interview commences. Daniel fascinates Armand during the interview. More precisely the way he is able to understand and connect with Louis is something that Armand finds intriguing. Daniel will however push too far, asking to become a vampire - as well as possibly reveal something about Louis’ narrative which causes Louis to attack him (“You don’t understand the meaning of your own story!”). Armand will save his life, probably at first plan to get rid of him through his ’Gentleman Death’ spiel but will change his mind and at some point let him go. The DM chase will possibly begin. Perhaps S02E05 will end with Daniel, after having been locked up for a few horrifying days, being let go. Meaning that the chase and the beginning of the romantic relationship between Daniel and Armand could be revealed in the season finale (if the show does the chase). Armand clearly truly loves Louis, and I think that Louis loves Armand, but there is some resentment and bitterness between them due to the events in Paris + Lestat. The fight therefore, motivated in part by Louis still talking/thinking about Lestat, might result in a temporary separation, during which Armand first chases and later falls for Daniel. Maybe Louis and Armand reconcile and Daniel become their ”third” for a while. Or Armand is separately in a relationship with Daniel, Louis probably has awareness of them but might lack insight into the depth of the relationship. If Louis and Armand separate for a while it’s possible that when they reconcile Armand ”let’s go” of Daniel. Possibly motivated by his need to not lose Louis (this could be what the couple/third dynamic is referring to, the fact that there’s an understanding between Louis and Armand to not get too close to the ’young men’ they engage with). So Armand could’ve been motivated by a fear of losing Louis - and just by his love and care of Louis, who he also in addition probably felt needs him after Claudia’s death.
Another factor could also be that Daniel wanted to be turned. Armand not wanting to turn Daniel could be because he believes vampirism is a curse or because this would entail a loss of control over Daniel/their relationship which Armand psychologically couldn’t cope with. Possibly he didn’t trust enough in Daniel’s love of him (giving the Alice comment more personal context). So Armand adjusts Daniel’s and Louis’ memories, the latter’s possibly with a certain level of consent - so that Louis can cope with what happened in Paris/the trial/Claudia’s resentment(?). This kind of breakup between Armand and Daniel, and the reasoning behind it could explain what the ’heaviness’ is referring to. Since it has nothing to do with a lack of love but rather with insecurity. A part of the heaviness from Daniel’s side could also be that as he is someone dealing with internalized homophobia, he felt truly seen and free with Armand and from Armand’s side Daniel’s ability and willingness to connect and not judge and love Armand set him free, and made him feel accepted. I’m very invested in the DM relationship, but I’m a worried that their relationship will nearly not be salvageable after all revelations. The heaviness comment concerns me. Adjusting someone’s memories to such an extent and in a way is an incredible violation, and perhaps more importantly, in a way, Armand chose Louis over Daniel. And that is a difficult hurdle to get over, even if Armand’s motivations were understandable. I’m happy to be wrong here though. I’m also fascinated by the idea of what’s next in Daniel’s and Armand’s dynamic. I don’t believe it’s Marius who’s behind Daniel’s blocked memories, simply because it feels like the show is going to use episode five to reveal through Daniel’s trauma in San Francisco the extent of Armand’s ‘Mind Gift’. As revealed in the trailer, Louis will have a moment of revelation where he realises that he is missing memories. Him and Daniel are seated at the same table with the same clothes in that scene as in the scene where Daniel tells Louis that he wants to remember for his own sake what happened in San Francisco. And for a causal viewers’ sake it makes sense to show the extent of the Mind Gift as well as Armand’s propensity to use it before we arrive at the finale (and the trial). It could be pretty good foreshadowing. I do think that Armand is not going to be revealed to simply be a moustache-twirling villain and manipulator behind it all - again I think a certain amount of memory manipulation might be somewhat consensual as Louis at some point will be almost crushed by Claudia’s death.
I’m honestly happy to be wrong about a lot of this - and I certainly don’t think I’m right about everything. It should go without saying that a lot of this is me synthesising speculation I’ve read on Tumblr and online. But I’ve just thought about this for a while and would love to hear your (and others who would like to comment) thoughts on it. So sorry for long post!!! Thank you! Love coming to your and @cbrownjc blogs and reading speculation! Also - plz don’t feel obliged to respond or comment on everything!
Hey!!
So. I think episode 5 will be the horrific parts of the DM arc. I do think that Daniel went up with Louis to that apartment and maybe something happened, but I think it was mostly about the interview at that point. I don’t think Daniel became their “third” right away, but I DO think that Daniel became that over time (which I think is not something I expect to see in episode 5 - IF we get to see that we will see it in a later episode I think).
I… am not sure Armand is fascinated by Daniel during the interview. In fact I think THAT will play out like in the book, namely Daniel being told to run (a true hunt across the globe). But yes, Daniel pushed too far in the interview, and Louis will attack him - and Armand will save him in that moment - but I do not think for Daniel’s sake, but for LOUIS’ sake. Because Armand likely knows that Louis would not really want to kill Daniel then.
Armand does love Louis. He betrays his coven for him! But… he goes about it in the only way he knows how, and that is not how Louis nor Lestat need to be loved. And he is so desperate to have and keep that love he does anything to keep it - unfortunately. (Luckily for him Daniel is the counterpart to that desire to love.)
I … don’t think that Louis will be “away” during the chase and the aftermath (resulting in Armand and Louis actually being together for so long) because I think… I think the Louis prior to SF is a different one after SF, namely in Dubai. The Louis in Dubai is more settled, tempered, but still spiraling. The Louis in that bar in SF? Is trying to numb himself, eaten alive by guilt, seeking out substance users to get high. So … something happened between Paris and modern day Dubai, and SF seems to be it - especially if the hints we got re this episode being THAT KIND of episode hold true (and I mean it’s episode 5, right^^). So, we’ll see. But I expect gutter punches.
Daniel… will want to be turned, yes. And I think it has already been hinted with the “Alice said no” that Daniel will ask Armand at some point as well - and that it will be driven by love - but Armand did not trust that love enough to turn him.
The thing about Armand is… that he is Armand. He is not a moustache-twirling villain!!! But he goes about things in his coven-master mentality, making decisions for others, using his gifts as he sees fit.
That is canon behavior. That does not make him a big caricature villain!
But he does canonically influence Louis, makes him do things. Louis, in s3 has already commented on that. And he lets the coven kill Claudia.
He is doing that not to be evil - but he is doing this to keep the ones he loves, and he does it to protect his own heart, which is very understandable, imho. In the only way he knows how.
And, unfortunately, he does not love Claudia.

Condemned, Pt. 1
In Condemned (S02E05) we see the (new) team together for the first time, and if it isn't Ronon's first away-mission, it certainly is one of the first. They are all still trying to find their places in this new configuration, symbolically represented by how Teyla has now taken the shotgun seat next to Sheppard in the puddle jumper, where we find them at the start of the episode. Previously we saw McKay occupy this seat and we will see him retake it in the future, but there is an actual reason for him to be seated behind Sheppard here.
Tumblr media
Just to tease it, it has to do with some parallels the episode attempts to build with the original trilogy Star Wars. There is one explicit and widely recognized reference to the franchise but it is not the only reference this episode makes to the films. But more about that later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, things must have happened between the end of the previous episode and this. At some point, Sheppard had informed Ronon about the fact that he would now be a part of the team. But he must also have discussed it over with McKay because while McKay is clearly cautious around Ronon, he certainly seems to be trying to get along with him. When we now find them in the jumper, this is not the first time McKay has seen Ronon ever since he (presumably) cut him down from the tree in Runner (S02E03). And it isn't just that McKay is trying to get used to Ronon's presence on the team, it seems like Ronon is also trying to figure out what kind of an animal McKay is and how he is supposed to respond to him. Toward this end, there seems to be something of a contest or one-upmanship going on between them at the offset:
Tumblr media
Sheppard: Look familiar? Dex: No. Teyla: Me either. I do not believe I have been to this planet before. McKay: There's no sign of any settlements. At least, nothing recent. Dex: Other than the smoke from that campfire. McKay: Ah. Yes, well. I mean, other than that.
This informs us of the fact that Ronon and McKay have different but complementary skill-sets. Where McKay is an expert on futuristic technologies, Ronon has a knack for more primitive forms of technology, both having their uses both for the team and for the security of Atlantis.
But while the whole team may still be trying to settle into a new dynamic, the thing that has most changed between the previous episode and this is Sheppard's disposition toward McKay. When they were on the recently culled planet at the beginning of Duet (S02E04), Sheppard seemed distant and detached where McKay appeared to be upset for reasons that were never revealed. As they were on the planet with a squad of marines, Sheppard had separated them into different teams so that himself, Teyla and McKay were all divided into different groups with marines.
But now, we find Sheppard among "his own people". There is no one in the jumper but members of his own team that he had chosen for it personally, so it's possible that he is able to be more at ease here than when he was having to perform commander to the new marines that don't really know him, seeing as how he seems to feel somewhat insecure about his new leadership position. It is his performance as Lieutenant Colonel that may have resulted in him trying to distance himself from his emotions since so many of his superiors have indicated that his emotions are what compromise his command.
Tumblr media
But here, among his own people and in his own element flying the jumper, Sheppard seems much more free and relaxed. But he also seems much more comfortable being near McKay. Content, even. He smiles slightly to himself as he listens to McKay's exchange with Ronon behind him, and he seems aware of McKay's body behind him even without seeing him. This is not where we left them. Sheppard had left McKay in the hospital with barely a look, and had responded nothing to Weir's suggestion that they might want a moment to themselves. But based on how they are here, it's entirely possible that they did have such a moment.
This may be corroborated by the fact that in the following episode Trinity (S02E06) Sheppard refuses to let McKay into his quarters as he comes to talk with him even though McKay explicitly requests entrance, which definitely suggests that the previous time McKay had come to talk with him and Sheppard had let him in, something had happened. Something had happened of which he did not want a repeat just then. While whatever happened clearly has not fixed nearly everything between them, the way they are around each other in this episode implies that they had hooked up between the end of the previous episode and this. That they've had sex, to make it explicit. While it is of course possible Sheppard's good mood here is entirely based on him getting to have Ronon on his team, he does not look unlike a man that has recently had sex.
And so, they land the jumper on the strange new planet and find themselves in a village that seems very recently abandoned. Where Sheppard takes point, McKay is safely sandwiched between Ronon and Teyla, and this is something they will frequently do from henceforth. As they try to figure out what has taken place, we get the first of several references to friendship in this episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teyla: It appears they left in a hurry. Sheppard: Not used to friendlies coming out of the gate.
McKay isn't precisely used to friendlies coming out the gate either. There are many different friendships budding during the episode. It seems as though McKay is using banter to bond with Ronon where Ronon is clearly fucking with him, both of them amused by the other man's antics. They are very different people but they are trying to get along suggesting that Sheppard has had a lengthy discussion with McKay about why they need Ronon. The reason why Sheppard personally needs Ronon, as McKay's guardian angel, however, is his business alone. And we do see several clear instances of Sheppard being protective of McKay and McKay in particular, all throughout the episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
McKay: What are you... oh my God, he's tasting it! You don't know what that is, that could be their laundry! Dex: Pretty good! McKay: Oh yes, good idea! And when you're finished with their porridge, why don't we try their beds, hmm? Dex: Want some? McKay: How good is it? Sheppard: Leave it be, Goldilocks.
Calling McKay Goldielocks is a cultural reference that only the two of them would understand so here, once more, even inside their own team, the two of them insulate themselves inside a bubble where only the two of them are invited. McKay references the fairy tale and Sheppard acknowledges this. Now, calling McKay Goldilocks, who is a little girl, might be considered a disparaging remark but what Sheppard is actually doing here is making sure that McKay does not eat any unknown substances. He is taking care of McKay. Ronon can drink dishwater all he wants but McKay with his deadly allergies is not eating anything questionable on his watch. By calling him Goldilocks we also establish McKay as fair-haired, which is relevant for later.
But let's not dismiss the fact that Sheppard jumps in here just after McKay has mentioned trying out their beds, as the tone of his exchange with Roon turned a little bit flirty all of a sudden, and Sheppard felt the need to nip that in the bud. While he is making sure McKay doesn't eat anything that could harm him, he's also warning him not start anything with tall, dark and hunksome, and not to needlessly antagonize him, either. They all know Ronon is attractive, Teyla very much included, but Sheppard did not bring him on as a boy toy for any one of them.
With regards to the fairy tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we'll get to the question of Sheppard's quarters and the size of his bed with the next episode, but trying out of a bed that was too small (where previously they had discussed beds that were too large, Mckay just pointing out their dimensions in Before I Sleep S01E15) may be something that had only just happened in their very recent past, where the bed that was just right in McKay's quarters was no longer shared by them. And while they may have reconnected recently, they are also very much trying out that being friends thing here. Infusing their friendship with benefits may have been playing with fire but maybe they can make this work. So far, so good.
But while Sheppard's mind seems to be occupied by thinking about beds and how to keep McKay safe from himself, they suddenly come under a hail of arrows as they are attacked by the natives of the island, and the natives do not seem friendly at all.
Tumblr media
They all duck down just as soon as Ronon warns them about the imminent attack but Sheppard is slower than the others to get down because he looks over to McKay before ducking, seeming for the fraction of a second to consider covering him with his own body. Sheppard is not looking at the source of the attack, he is looking at McKay. And again, after the hail of arrows ceases, as he tells them all to take cover, Sheppard quickly checks to see McKay is unharmed. Important asset, and all. Even having brought Ronon on the team, keeping McKay safe seems to be a full-time job for Sheppard. What ever had happened between them hadn't changed that.

From One Apocalypse to Another by y_oruko I Chapters: 33/? I Crack Treated Seriously, BAMF Five | The Boy, BAMF Rick, AU- Canon Divergence, Five has beef with almost everyone, Eventual Found Family, The Walking Dead Season 5
Five lost his siblings to the void of time when he recklessly tried bringing them all to travel back in time. It bit him in the ass and threw him into a world where apparently zombies were real. The universe sure loved to screw him over. Rick didn't know what to expect when he followed the priest into a church, but it's certainly not a homicidal teenager.

Instead of waiting 28 years, the Handler plucks a 15-year-old boy from the rubble of the Apocalypse and trains him to be a killer. So Five knows. He knows what it’s like to live through hell, to be broken down and made back up again, to be stripped of everything. He understands and he can relate to the torture Reginald Hargreeves put his siblings through after he disappears, even if they claim he never could. He knows because he went through it too. Because before he worked alone, there was Dolores. Because before he was the best, they were the best. Because before it was just Five, they were the Four Horsemen.
The Five Whistle by @i-logophile I Chapters: 1/1 I one shot Hurt Five | The Boy, Creepy The Handler, AU- Canon Divergence, Episode: s02e05 Valhalla
“What the hell was that?” Five tried to demand, but his breathlessness ruined the effect. The Handler grinned. “What? This little thing?” she asked, pulling a long, thin device from within the folds of her coat. “This is just a little something I had cooked up back at Headquarters just for you.” She twisted the end of the device. In response, the fabric of space released an unearthly howl of agony, making Five’s legs collapse beneath him. Then it stopped, and a shadow fell over him. “Now about that assignment,” The Handler said, gazing down at him with a predatory grin. – After the Hargreeves’ disaster of a family meeting, Five is still pacing the alley outside of Elliott’s when he’s confronted by The Handler. She presents her offer, but since it’s not his only option just yet, Five declines. However, The Handler isn’t so easily denied, and she decides to use a little something from the Commission to convince Five to rethink his decision.

Ever think of that?” Klaus scoffed. “‘Bad guys’? Really, Ben? We’re not thirteen anymore.” “Exactly, so use your brain, moron. Why would Five just go around murdering people in the ’60s?” “Oh, I don’t know, because he’s fucking psycho?! He’s probably all screwed up from time travel or something! Who knows what kind of shit—” “Klaus.” “What?” “He can hear you.” -- Or, what if the Board meeting was somewhere in Dallas, and one of Five’s siblings stumbled upon the massacre as it was taking place?

A plan took shape in Five’s mind. It wasn’t one he particularly liked, and it would be unequivocally humiliating, but with the Commission coming and their powers shot to hell for the foreseeable future, Five couldn’t think of any other option. Didn’t change the fact that he despised crying. -- Five pretends to cry to get an enemy to lower their guard—emphasis on “pretend.” His siblings don’t catch on. After getting over their shock, they become unnecessarily distressed and proceed to flutter around Five like neurotic chickens. Oh, and some people die, but that was kind of the plan all along.

Five doesn’t hold back anymore, doesn't think he could limit himself again now even if he wanted to. His eyes glow, never to be denied again, and the space around him shifts as if someone is pinching and pulling reality by force. The Boy tries not to laugh, but he feels incredible on a level he has always, during the sad expanse of his life, thought impossible. * When the Hargreeves return from the 60s, Five is already at the end of his rope. He swears off killing, only to find their deceased father in the living room, disapproving as ever. Add six mediocre replacements and a ghost coming back to haunt them and you've got yourself a desperate time traveler whose grip on reality is slipping. Five is willing to sacrifice his own humanity for the sake of his siblings, but is his humanity really the most important thing he could lose? How much power can he afford to let loose before he loses control himself? Will his family even want him after everything is settled?

Connections between Gods of Stories: Science-Fiction, and Magic being a Powerful Lie - Approaches to Storytelling
From "Loki God of Stories - A Comparison between MCU and Comics" series - Co-Written by @lucianalight (Luci) and @theitcharchives (Hollow)
“All science is fiction until it’s fact.” The line said by Timely implies that in Loki’s series, fiction is closer to science than one would think.
In S02E05, Ouroboros is a scientist and a writer. We are introduced to the concepts of What and How, aka science’s staples, then When and Why, aka science-fiction’s staples.
And the Where, though unmentioned–the original people present had to be reunited together to recreate an aura and pinpoint a location in time and space: Where became a staple of science-fiction.
Now, the Who seems to be about “the people he cares about/wanted to see”. (It is said in The Making of Loki -Luci). Yeah it stands as the theory behind the practice, but I have a headcanon: it is my (=Hollow’s) personal understanding and belief that the Who is essential to magic–once Loki understood the Who, he understood his role. He could control the time slips because he wanted to protect those he cared about and their lives. He would have to sustain the timelines because he wanted to find a solution to the dilemma and thus he broke and substituted the equation. Magic needs a who, a will to direct it to not just be aimless energy, and Loki made his choice to use his own and his power to allow everyone else to make their own choices. “Who he wanted to protect” is not the relevant part, “who wants to do the protecting” is.
These six elements are not only the fundamentals of journalist articles, but also of stories. You kind of have to answer them to have a plot–or at least it’s a good start.
In S02E06 Loki spends centuries learning what OB knows, which leads Loki to learning how to stop time with his magic. Something HWR can do with technology, Loki substitutes with magic.
Then, in Thor 2011, Thor says in Asgard magic is considered to be a science. So for MCU Loki, magic is a science.
In MCU Loki’s universe, science, fiction and magic all cover roles that combine into answering all questions for one goal: tell a story. So Loki, who is a master of magic (Who), and thus also a scientist (What, How), can cover the remaining elements (Where, When and Why) because he wants to rewrite the story–he wants to exercise his will over his fate.
In Loki’s series, if you are a magician you are a scientist, and science deals with facts. Magical facts then are still facts, and if you can write with magic, you can change reality. Even stop time and jump across it–because you want to, and you are a master scientist in the branches of mischief and chaos.
Comics Loki says “So let’s talk about magic. [*...] At the core [...] magic is taking a thought and making it real. Taking a lie and making it the truth. Telling a story to the universe so utterly, cosmically perfect that for a single, shining moment… the world believes a man can fly.” (-Loki; Agent of Asgard #1) “What is a lie, Verity? A lie is a story told. That’s all. And we can rewrite our stories. All of us. Write our own happy endings. Our own redefinitions. We don’t have to be what we’re told to be. Even by ourselves.” (-Loki: Agent of Asgard #13)
Comics Loki is the God of Lies. MCU Loki, not so much–he’s never quite had the opportunity to be a god of lies. He’s called the God of Mischief, and he does Mischief aplenty. Comics Loki’s journey to becoming God of Stories went through understanding that his propensity for crafting lies was just exercise for learning to craft stories. With lies, comics Loki does magic. He is not quite a scientist–comics never really gave the vibe magic=science. Magic is magic and works more on possibilities and potentials than facts, has its own rules (* “We can dicker on the exact rules, if you like. There are all sorts of grimoires and cryptonomicons. I’ve got an AD&D manual somewhere” -Loki: Agent of Asgard #1 - Loki’s mention of Dungeons and Dragons manuals delightfully suggests that, one: it exists in E-616 and he plays it, two: that one could actually do magic while playing it, and three: something poetic about writing and creating magic and playing pretend and the power of imagination).
Well the point of all this is–both MCU Loki and Comics Loki deal with storytelling in their own way. Comics Loki has a true magician approach to it. He writes and rewrites stories because it is his potential blooming and flourishing. MCU Loki has a near-scientific approach, that still beautifully flows into magic, and is quite flattering to Loki–he rewrites the story and holds Yggdrasil because he is Loki and he wants to, and he can. Because “we are gods” babey.

OFMD Meta Series Master Thread
My brain works in meta series for some reason, and a couple of my individual metas have been really popular! So in case you're looking for more of my stuff, or to read a meta related to one you already liked, here're my series. I'll update them as I go.
Metas about Stories and Storytelling in OFMD
Do we just keep telling the same story forever? Meta on OFMD S1E7 "This is Happening"
(Note: writing this while on a holiday, there'll be more metas in this series once I get home and go through drafts ;) )
The Fuckery's the Thing: Finding truth through lies in "The Art of Fuckery"
True Stories, False Stories: "The Best Revenge is Dressing Well"
Stories within Stories (within more stories!): OFMD Meta Analysis of Ep 1 E4
Stede Bonnet's Stories (S2)
Ed Teach's Stories
Stede Bonnet's Stories (S1)
Storytelling in Our Flag Means Death
Character Analysis Question Metas
Why was finding Stede's letter so important for Ed?
Why did Ed think becoming a fisherman made any sense at all?
Why did Ed throw away his leathers?
Why did Ed want to "take it slow"?
Why didn't Izzy shoot Ed (then)?
Why did Ed headbutt Stede?
Why didn't Ed always protect Stede?
How did Stede leave pirating so easily?
Did Ed really want to die?
How did Stede know that Ed wanted to "watch the world burn"?
Why did Ed shoot Izzy then?

Smoke and ashes
read it on AO3 at https://archiveofourown.org/works/60555352 by Anonymous “So you’re aunt Janet’s guest! She mentioned she was expecting someone. But she failed to mention you’d be so… lovely.” The comment earned him an arched brow, but he only laughed softly, unbothered by her scrutiny. “Allow me to introduce myself. Loki S02E05
Spoilers, obviously.
I don't know how much of a hot take this is, and obviously things are liable to change with the next episode, but I kinda wish Don a.k.a. Mobius M. Mobius hadn't been a jet-ski salesman in his original life. I don't know if it's meant to imply he still had some lingering memory of his old, non-TVA existence, but I think it would've worked much better if Don was just a regular salaryman working in an office who also had a dream of buying a jet-ski. It would explain why he didn't want to go back to his old life; he claims that he didn't bother to see what his old life had been, but what if he did and found that it was even more hollow and meaningless than his fake life there? At least in the TVA he was doing something productive and not working all day to make his boss rich. As it stands, in order for Mobius to stay at the TVA then he has to be leaving his family behind, and that doesn't seem right for how Don acted. Frank / Casey was an escaped convict on the run from Alcatraz and A.D. Doug / O.B (man loves being known by initials) was a failed sci-fi writer who lost his job and wife, so I get why they would want to get the hell out of reality. B-15 / Dr. Willis looked like she had a good life, but I also believe she would willingly sacrifice her happiness to protect the universe.
On the other hand, they all turned into spaghetti and then Loki rewound time to before they met, so this might never really be relevant at all.

Note
you always make a compelling argument that every favorite character of yours is clearly Peruvian-coded. Your version of Latino Criston Cole is better than the original.
I've had this ask in my inbox for ages but I had to answer today because as of S02E05 Criston is not beating the Latin American man allegations by hiding important information from his girlfriend and disrespecting her in public. 💀 <- Don't cancel me I'm Latin American

a day late...a day and half an hour late actually, but who's counting? Amok Time Friday!!!
fandom: star trek tos
pairing: spock/kirk/t'pring
rating: pon fucking farr, my friends
summary:
Spock's mind is an oasis in a land without that concept, drying up. There is always another solution to the impossible scenario.
tagged: Episode: s02e05 Amok Time, amok time friday saturday, aka a day late and a dollar short, but!, canon typical logical solutions to problems, Pon Farr (Star Trek), Dubious Consent Due to Pon Farr (Star Trek), is it pon farr if it isn't a little bit dub?, Fuck Or Die, threesome edition, Threesome - F/M/M, Bonding, Psychic Bond, Psychic Sex, SNW compatible
---
For my girl @skylightpirate, who had the great idea of writing threesome fic for amok time day. 'but who gangs up on who?' I asked, and she gave her theory, and I said 'well, I'll write the other way round'. And so here it is. You'll have to wait for hers, but I know its going to be absolutely incredible.
also this owes a lot to @alienfuckeronmain's erotica and author voice classes from her superb writing course. never stop never stopping.
the title is from this kate bush song which I recommend listening to for the vibes.

Back again with another snippet from my fic. This is from chapter 10, and the conclusion of part 1.
Tumblr media
For the first time in the longest time, Spock cries. He weeps as he did when he was just a child. He sobs because he is in pain, and because his heart hurts. No other reason. He is under the influence of nothing but a deep welling pit of grief, and he cannot summon the mortification and self-censure it takes to stop. When he wipes the tears from his eyes, more drip down his cheeks.
If you are curious, my fic "I Shall Do Neither" is here at AO3. Details below as always, and big thank you to everyone who has read along so far.
I Shall Do Neither (59729 words) by onwhatcaptain Chapters: 11/22 Fandom: Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: James T. Kirk/Spock, James T. Kirk & Leonard "Bones" McCoy & Spock Characters: James T. - This story is told in two parts across 21 chapters, and will be updated on Sundays.

Jeeves and Wooster S02E05 (1991)
Wooster: I wonder why these minstrel fellows blacken their faces in order to play the banjo and sing songs, Jeeves. Jeeves: It is said to originate with the entertainment got up on the cotton plantations of the New World by the slaves employed on those facilities in order to express joy and happiness at their lot. An unlikely contingency, one surmises, bearing in mind their situation.
