“In America, where I live, death has been big business since the turn of the twentieth century. A century has proven the perfect amount of time for its citizens to forget what funerals once were - family and community-run affairs. In the nineteenth century no one would have questioned Josephine’s daughter preparing her mother’s body - it would have seemed strange if she didn’t. No one would have questioned a wife washing and dressing the body of her husband or a father carrying his son to the grave in a homemade coffin. In an impressively short time, America’s funeral industry has become more expensive, more corporate, and more bureaucratic than any other funeral industry on earth. If we can be called best at anything, it would be at keeping our grieving families from their dead.”
-Caitlin Doughty, in “From Here to Eternity”

Not to make another "hey I'm high but" post but
I think for the first time in my life on this platform I actually understand the mushroom post? And it has actually made me finally become comfortable with death as a concept and an inevitable and I feel??? Really healed by this??? So thank you to the original poster of the mushroom post, wherever you are, because the breaking moment when I had my epiphany was literally me saying "Death is an extent form of life" and my girlfriend reciting the rest of the post knowingly while handing me the bong.
#death mention#death positivity#the order of the good death#weed mention#drug mention#is this what its like getting closer to 30?#am i finally an adult?#Anna

At almost any location in any major city on Earth, you are likely standing on thousands of bodies. These bodies represent a history that exists, often unknown, beneath our feet. While a new Crossrail station was being dug in London in 2015, 3,500 bodies were excavated from a sixteenth- and seventeenth-century cemetery under Liverpool Street, including a burial pit from the Great Plague of 1665. To cremate bodies we burn fossil fuel, thus named because it is made of decomposed dead organisms. Plants grow from the decayed matter of former plants. The pages of this book are made from the pulp of raw wood from a tree felled in its prime. All that surrounds us comes from death, every part of every city, and every part of every person.

This page is absolutely glorious and this comics was my first time I learned about transgenre, and I don't want to derail the post but please, watch this Caitlin Doughty video.
youtube
The examples are painful to hear, but there is solutions to avoid Wanda's situation now. There is resources in the video's comment and on the Order of the Good Death's website.
was talking to my gf about my fear of dying young for being trans and my mom putting my deadname on my gravestone, and she said "i hope that never happens, but if it does, i will carve your name into your grave myself if i have to." and i think theres something extremely raw about that sentiment and trans community in general. you can kill only our bodies, but you cant kill transsexuality

Isn’t Vortex a fucking torture freak tho? 👀👀👀
Yep. He is. He is a lot of things actually. The more you learn about him the more fucked up it gets
#at first I was like#ah yes another crazy helicopter#but then I learned the lore haha#hoo boy#the guy was a criminal and was so good at it#the government had to take his spark out of his body and put it in a freezer so he won't break the law anymore#then Starscream took him out and was like#you and your bros are my minions now#btw I made you unable to recharge on your own so uou are basically my hostages#work for me or starve to death losers#and then also Megatron with his Javascript exercises#Seriously. Megs looked at those criminals who were crazy strong and also crazy smart and decided that enslaving them would be a great idea#He basically reprogrammed Vortex and others. He made him literally unable to disobey his orders#what kind of fucked up thing to do Megsy???#G1 was great ahahahah#silly kids show about war and crimes and slavery#also#I might be wrong here because I haven't watch G1 entirely....but I'm pretty sure Combaticons just fuckin. stay Megatron slaves forever??#Like. The code that Megs put in their heads is never mentioned again? And for the rest of the show they forced to serve the Decepticons???#and everyone just?? Forget about them? I repeat I might be wrong here. It would be great if I'm wrong#also yeah Vortex is a torture freak and totally crazy#I saw a note somewhere that mentioned he likes to transform around other bots and then fly as high as he can and drop them#fucker lol

es rarepair week 2024 day 1 | AU/future
lil ghostic au of mine!!! yuzuru and the rest of fine are long since trapped souls in an abandoned mansion of which rst come across while looking for shelter during a storm :] it doesnt um. particularly end well
#doodles#duck scribbles#es rarepair week 2024#midoyuzu#yuzumido#i Was gonna do the stardew au but then it made me kind of sad. actually this is even worse in that aspect but im in a mood#enstars#midori finds his diary of which details the life of and events leading to yuzuru and the rest of the residents' deaths and w it slowly#becomes able to see/interact with (to an extent) yuzurus spectre himself#midori takamine#yuzuru fushimi#ghostswere initially rather aggressively hospitable in order to keep lost strangers there to eventually die and become a lost soul like the#but most w time grew to just want to be freed and be able to pass on in peace. more hostile ghosts become vague wisps of what they were bef#ore once theyve lost their tether to humanity but those with a strong will still have more control and effect on their surroundings somewha#yuzuru specifically was determined to maintain the mansion and has for decades and maybe centuries kept it orderly hence the clarity of his#spirit!!! having been one of those hostile spirits himself before has moved on to gently guiding guests away from the more dangerous areas#and assisting them so as to ensure their safe leave#they look for a way to break the curse on the mansion together so as to free all their souls!! unfortunately for midori she fell in love w#someone who has long since died 👍#the lil ballroom scene was a funny thing i dreamed about a while ago actually. i like to think watarus ghost put on some music unprompted#oh and since the rest of rst is also there technically you can expect chiaki is Not having a very good time

thinking long and hard about Godwyn and Fortissax's friendship like
>the dragons begin a war with the golden order
>Godwyn and Fortissax become “good friends” which brings an era of peace between the golden order and the dragons
>Godwyn goes on to begin the golden lineage with a completely unmentioned partner
>dragons are known to take the form of humans and even have relations with them, as seen with Vyke and Fortissax's sister Lanssax
>One of Godwyn’s many descendants is Godrick, who refers to the dragon in his arena as “kindred one”
>While Godwyn was the first demigod to fall during the night of the black knives, it’s implied that many others followed at the hands of the assassins. Due to the rest of the known descendants of Marika being alive, and no one else having a child pre-shattering it can be inferred that Godwyn's bloodline was specifically targeted for some reason. Since those are the only other demigods that existed at the time.
>Godwyn is assassinated and because him and Fortissax are such “Good friends” Fortissax proceeds to enter godwyns mind and spends decades, possibly centuries attempting to fight off the deathblight from within him, eventually succumbing to it themselves but still unwilling to abandon their “good friend” regardless.
#Do you see my vision?#Fortissax would rather die trying to save Godwyn than abandon him to fester alone#the two becoming “companions” literally ended the war between their communities and allowed the dragons to coexist with the golden order#much like how Radagon and Rennala married to end the war between the erdtree and the carians.#and godwyn has many descendants that are conveniently wiped out pre shattering#one of the only surviving ones having a fascination and kinship with dragons#and his companion is also conveniently completely forgotten by history despite how important they would be historically?#yeah. “Good friends” my ass.#those two loved each other and you can't convince me otherwise#elden ring#elden ring lore#elden ring theory#godwyn the golden#godwyn the prince of death#lichdragon fortissax#fortissax#godrick the grafted

How do you feel about concepts for redeemed/good guy Ganondorf? I don't remember if you've said anything on it before, so I am curious to see what sorts of thoughts you have to share or if you've thought about the idea before (especially since you've worked on SoF so I assume you've thought about many possibilities of a "what if" Zelda game)
For my part: I have mixed feelings, and I think a lot of concepts end up being "I want a buff guy to ship Link with"; I also think a lot of criticisms of the racism in many depictions of Ganondorf have merit (though I don't speak on them in depth because I'm white) and would love to see a more favorable/complex portrayal of him and other characters of color in LoZ. I personally haven't seen many versions of good guy/redeemed Ganondorf that really engage with the base structure of the LoZ games but I would love to see one that did.
Anyways I love your blog and analysis and I love seeing someone who finds analysis as inherently a part of their engagement with fandom as me, it's really nice :) I hope you're having a good day
I never posted about it much but sof did actually have a somewhat redeemed ganondorf, or as close to "good guy" as i'm willing to go with him in my own writing. sof was/is very much about me exploring the religious aspects of the lore and issues of fate vs self-determination, so my ganondorf was a much younger version of the character (similar in age to link and zelda) born into an extremist hylia-worshipping doomsday cult. in sof, ganondorf finds the remains of DEMISE'S sword and believes it to be the master sword, so when it starts ordering him around he follows the orders without question, believing that he's hearing the voice of hylia, and basically everyone in his life affirms to him that this is the correct choice and he's hylia's chosen one. Because of the intensity of the religious doctrine he was raised with, he has no problem following the sword's orders even when they become progressively more and more violent, and by the time link and zelda get to him he's nearly past the point of no return. (this is also partially a product of the setting I chose to put sof in--it's one of if not the first cycles after sksw, so the hyruleans' understanding of the reincarnation cycle and their own general history isn't super solid.) So that's my personal take on a "good guy" ganondorf, and, i think, the way i'd like to see it done in canon if ever they choose to go that route--because loz deals so much with the concepts of fate and cycles, I think leaning into a ganondorf who isn't inherently evil but can't escape the fate that waits for him is a fun way to take it.
#im not into ganon/link for about a million different reasons but yeah a good 80% of the good guy ganondorf stuff out there is just#give that twink an agressive top with a huge package. like ok guys. happy for you. but uh. actually nvm im gonna keep my mouth shut#asks#i do intend to end sof with ganon alive btw. if i ever end it (unlikely)#but like. with sof ganondorf my thought was like. this is a kid who genuinely believes he's doing everything right#he doesn't see stealing the sages as kidnapping. he believes hes performing a ritual to revive his long-dead goddess#he believes LINK is the heretic being ordered around by a fake sword claiming to be the original#and by the time he starts being presented with irrefutable evidence that he's wrong he's in too deep#and he HAS to keep going because he can't admit that everything he's done up until now was based on lies#his crisis of faith becomes a literal life-and-death situation for the entire kingdom basically

every time I try to discuss the Spyral arc with someone for the Nightwing comics I have to take the Sisyphus route of going “one must imagine Bruce Wayne to be a bad father…”
#nightwing#dick grayson#when mf dies and then gets beat up and convinced to go on a secret mission#secret mission where none of your family knows you’re alive except for your neglectful father#shortly after the death of your younger brother#oh haha his heart just stopped now’s a good time to introduce him to several months undercover operation#hmmm what if I beat him up to convince him#this is a sane father thing#Nightwing deserves better#bruce wayne#look we KNOW he’s not a good guy in half the canon dc comics in the last 2 decades#but seriously I can forgive him in under the red hood but definitely not here#dick grayson needs a hug#and probably a restraining order

This existential longing for the pyre's fiery embrace is common worldwide. In India, family members transport dead bodies to a row of cremation pyres along the banks of the Ganges River. When a father dies, his pyre will be lit by his eldest son. As the flames grow hotter, his flesh bubbles and burns away. At just the right time, a wooden staff is brought forth and used to crack open the dead man's skull. At that moment, it is believed the man's soul is released. A son, describing the cremations of his parents, wrote that "before [breaking the skull], you shiver -- for this person was alive just a few hours back -- but once you hit the skull, you know what burns in front of you is after all just a body. All attachments are gone." The soul is set free, as an Indian spiritual song intones over a loudspeaker: "Death you think you have defeated us, but we sing the song of burning firewood."

Maybe House has made me more in-tune to the secret unhinged side of my favorite characters but I'm watching SVU and Alex Cabot is a menace. (/pos)
"I have to enforce the law, and the law is not always about justice" except random times when she disagrees and will fully become the lawyer for an opposing party in full defiance of her bosses.
"Your honor I simply do not vibe with the law" and will say so in court to the point where she once got held in contempt.
Started her legendary string of "Go After The Large Company Instead of the Obvious Target" cases just because Liv asked.
She will actually do literally anything that Olivia asks...sometimes when she does something especially unhinged I go to check the scene before and 90% of the time she's doing whatever it is to appease some vague whim of Liv's.
Ride or die for the SVU squad as a whole after working with them for less than a year and knowing that they have cost her like all her political capital (something that was very important to her...she says so in her introductory scene).
Exactly predicted fetal personhood legal issues 25 years before the Supreme Court overturned Roe.
Wanted to execute a woman for the first time in NY history for feminism reasons.
Spends like 80% of all work meetings, with other people in the room who are often actively talking to her, just staring at Olivia.
Always down for a Crazy Scheme (especially when she gets to deceive others).
She has a lot of moments of understanding the law as a weapon (ie how to I use it to my own ends as opposed to viewing it as a holy ideal) that is only now actually becoming a common philosophy in law school circles.
WAY more loose-cannon moments in general than I remembered.
Also I feel the need to reiterate just how many bridges she will burn and loops she will jump through for the slightest hint of approval from Olivia. Just...so gay.
Seriously just like how in House a casual viewer may get distracted by Wilson's "Definitely a Normal Person" disguise and miss how he is just as crazy as House, Alex is just as batshit as known exhibitionist-asphyxiation-in-the-middle-of-the-courtroom fan Rafael. And I love her dearly.
#law and order svu#svu#alex cabot#olivia benson#house md#i just love her so much#I know copaganda bad okay#Which is why I rarely recommend the show#But when the police are the good guys I just pretend it's a parallel universe#and understand it in no way reflects reality#and a lot of times what Alex is advocating for isn't good!#like she goes really hard for the death penalty#but my favorites are allowed to have flaws#especially when they are So Pretty#She and CJ Cregg from TWW were pretty much my gay awakening#Will I return to writing Cabenson? Maybe#I have fleeting ideas sometimes#And I never really did a proper angsty character study on her like I've done for Rafael#cabenson#Cabenson for the win (in a very “all ships are valid” personal preference kind of way)
