hey this is just a question of personal opinion but is it valid to have like a million different fictionkins/copinglinks (and when I say a million I mean like 100)??? i know there are people who have multiple and that’s cool but they’re usually able to list them. But I think I kin a lot of characters, like A LOT. Thoughts???
(IDs in italics, pt normal)
Thanks for the ask! Prepare for a long post hehe
My answer to "is this valid?" Is almost always yes. A personal philosophy of mine is something like... "do/be whatever makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt others or yourself". This hurts nobody, so its okay in my book!
Plus, in regards to chosen alterhumanity identities, i personally find it a bit fun to "collect" constels, just as i do for xenogenders and pronouns :3 [id: cute cat face emoji]
Now, regarding the actual question. I also c-link (clink?) many characters! Not as many as you do i think, i haven't made a full list, but i get where you are coming from.
(Refering to copinglink here) I think there is nothing wrong with finding comfort in that many characters, and the merrier! More comfort to go around.
And with otherkin, depends on wether all those kins are spiritual or psychological. If they are all or mostly spiritual, that is such a rollercoaster for a soul to have gone through! Hope it wasn't too bad, hope they had good experiences.
If they are all or mostly psychological, i think that there is no limit really, if you feel them all, its true and valid. I don't know what else to say here, but same hat! (Me too, psychological and copinglink catkin ^^ [id: happy upwards eyes kaomoji] )
Anyhow, thanks for the ask!!!!!! I never get those and and.... it makes me so happy you trusted me with something like this. Thank you!
Please don't be afraid to send asks, i love them so much!!!!!!!
[Pt: Please don't be afraid to send asks, i love them so much!!!!!!!]
Hope everything I said is okay, I'm not too familiar with spiritual kins since i don't experience any myself, but i do try to be respectful and open to learning about them! (Feel free to @ me on an info post if i got anything wrong)

Title: A Sunny Interruption
Vinnie and Zoe were sprawled out on their beach towels, soaking up the warm rays of the sun, enjoying a lazy afternoon of tanning.
Just as they were starting to drift off into relaxation, Minka and Russell walked over, casting curious glances at their bronzing friends.
"Hey, what are you two up to?" Minka chirped, her colorful dress billowing in the gentle breeze.
"We're just catching some sun," Zoe replied with a contented smile, adjusting her sunglasses.
Russell furrowed his brow slightly, concern etching his features. "You know, too much sun can be harmful. Did you guys remember to put on sunscreen?"
Vinnie chuckled, waving off Russell's worry. "Relax, Rusty. We're being careful."
Minka cocked her head to the side, puzzled. "But why bother tanning? Isn't it boring just lying here in the sun?"
Zoe shrugged, her eyes closed against the bright light. "It's not about being bored. It's about enjoying the warmth, feeling the sun on your skin. Plus, a little tan never hurt anyone."
Russell nodded thoughtfully, understanding dawning in his eyes. "I guess everyone has their own way of enjoying the outdoors."
Minka grinned, plopping down onto the sand next to Zoe. "Well, if you guys are determined to bake in the sun, mind if we join you?"
Vinnie laughed, making room on the towels. "The more, the merrier! Just don't forget the sunscreen."
And so, the four friends spent the rest of the afternoon basking in the sunshine, swapping stories and laughter as they soaked up the warmth of the day.
No, cause the way I imagine it Zoe is just laying there are relaxed yet still elegant on her front with legs crossed behind her and leaning her chin on her hands. And there's there Vinnie who is just absolutely face-planting on the towel, also on his front but not looking up cause it feels so nice to just boil like that, he could fall asleep! That would probably not end good if he was alone but hey, Russell, Minka and Zoe are all there, he'll be fiiine.
But as I said, Vinnie tries to get that sick tan *glasses emoji* but he's white as feck and just ends up burnt red like a chicken nugget while Zoe is all evenly tanned. See? There's such a good duo because Zoe is a girl boss while Vinnie is a girl-failure, hurray!
I'm surprised Vinnie put on the sunscreen willingly and without Russell's intervention, then again maybe Zoe was enough to force convince him. Actually yhe thought of those two putting sunscreen on each other is so cute, ugh, disgustingly cute thought. Oh, Vinnie ugly beautiful pale as hell freckled body, so adorable! I love them all, just four cuties tanning together and then Minka's like "Do you know you actually tan faster while in water?" and Vinnie just bolts out because he can be in water and tan? Cool! But he soon returns to the dry land because the water's much colder when comapred to the beach and Vinnie needs all his warmth, he's cold-blooded after all.

Heya friend can't remember how exactly I ended up followin' you but from one lonely OC artist on tumblr to another I wanted to submit one of them emojis for the OC ask post you reblogged on here 🥰 because I know how much it sucks when you care about your guys that you created but no one asks about 'em. So! My submitted emojis are 💯, 🤍, and 🤔, and you can answer with as many or as few OCs as you feel like in whatever order makes the most sense for you ❤️ the more the merrier obviously, but idk how much effort you wanna put in for a single ask ahahaha basically please tell me things about your kids I would love to hear 💕
Thank you so much, that's very sweet of you. I thought you had followed me from Character Hub, but maybe you followed me there because you found me here??? Anyway, thank you for the follow on both accounts. Considering I have 20.000 OCs, and trust me I'd love to do all three question about all, I'm gonna pick the ones I believe will fit the questions better for each questions. Some OCs don't have facts others don't know and are open books for example, etc.
💯 - share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
Hayden Metzler: He grew up in a cult town in the desert and hates high temperatures, he broke both his legs at the age of eight, he burned down a church with a molotov cocktail. Stacy Earnest: She hates being in her mother's plays and having to wear those outdated costumes, she's afraid Sally will get sick of her job and leave her, she thinks that she'll never beat the curse no matter what. Abigail Jones: All of her boyfriends looked a little like Cornelius cause she secretly thinks he's handsome, she wishes to be seventeen again, she wished her parents had prevented her from going into the public eye with her deficiency, no matter how much they needed the money from the interviews.
🤍 - what are three of your oc's neutral/questionable traits?
(I chose questionable for this because neutral and questionable are not synonyms, which made me a little confused, so I'll go with the morally dubious stuff).
Star Girl: She genuinely didn't care about putting humanity in danger when she made her band, no matter what Matthew's rules of revealing yourselves to humans are. She wanted to play, so she did. Hayden Metzler: Hayden doesn't care about anyone other than himself and his cat for the longest time. He cares about taking down Margaret Lancaster, the cult leader, but when he's possessed all of his worst traits, and then some made up things he thought of himself, come out, so he becomes manipulative, vain, egotistical and violent. The Ghosts of Stacy's story (aka The Cook, The Kid, and The General) (some trigger warning for violent stuff, cannibalism etc because they're the villains): They are all questionable traits. They are supposedly the antagonists, they're all taken by the Earnest curse. So the Cook used to mix her bovine meat she sold to everyone in town with some not so bovine meat, the Kid used to pillage and steal, the General kept going with the family meat business and he was also a sleazy, manipulative bastard. So, they have a mention here.
🤔 - what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Space Pirate: Eats a lot, she loves human food, but only human junk food. Cornelius Wildflower-Stardust: He keeps animals and plants pretty close to him, having so many animals in his house, even though he is a Water Faerie, and doesn't have any real affinity with nature, all because his mother was an Earth Faerie. Margaret Lancaster (aka Mags): She knows everything about Faerie celebrity life, she reads the Faerie Society Gazette pretty frequently even though she is Wiccen.
Thanks for asking!

hiiii Valentine Heart 💝 anon here!! some more little details from that night since there might be some mixed thoughts here? unless there’s someone else we’re talking about ahaha ANYWAY:
there was this moment where i was sitting on his bed and we were just sitting in silence when he suddenly leaned forward (he was sitting on his own chair) and brushed my hair away even though it wasn’t bothering me; he explained by saying it was bothering him that my jacket was messing it up a little??? and then he said my hair was “pretty” and “beautiful” which is so??? we had been out all day and it had also been windy and rainy and i didn’t have a brush so i had no idea how i actually looked
another moment was that i mentioned that i learned french in college and he was like “okay say something in french. make me fall for you” and idk is that a normal thing to say? maybe?? anyway i couldn’t do it lmao but that happened
also while i was sitting up on his bed with my back turned to him + he was laying face down right behind me he was getting very sentimental saying that he really likes hanging out with me and really likes having me around!!! and he said that if i ever need anything at all i can always turn to him. which isn’t an exclusively romantic thing to do but i found it very sweet and was very touched that he even said it at all in such a genuine way
ummm okay and this all happened in his bedroom. he has a roommate, but he was away at the time with family for the holidays, so it was just us in his apartment, but he closed the bedroom door for some reason for pretty much the entire time? even though he didn’t need to do that?? right??? so yeah there’s that
also while we were cuddling i heard him say that he “could stay like this for a long time” and much later on the drive home he said i had soft hands and Madie i was so strong for not folding right then and there
uhhhh when we got back to my house he was thanking me for hanging out with him and for “snuggling” (that’s what he called it) and i thanked him back for saying yes (i was the one to ask to hang out) and i don’t remember what he said after (or if he said anything at all) but we kinda just. stared into each other’s eyes until i whispered “okay” and moved to get my bag and i heard him give this soft laugh behind me
and finally when he was texting me that he was back home he said it was the “best day he’s had in a long time”! with a red heart emoji at the end!!
anyway. also a little update, nothing major happened since then but we’ve been texting each other a lot more frequently since that night (we’re not texting everyday though, idk if he finds that annoying a lot but he responds everytime i reach out so!! yeah!!! back in my being unsure mode, but feel free to tell me your honest thoughts (and also anyone who’s lurking hahaha i appreciate all y’all’s inputs also!! the more the merrier and it’s also really helpful to see how y’all perceive all this
omg . he likes you omg omg omg BEST DAY HE'S HAD IN A LONG TIME

📑📕 for the bookish asks? Also hope you have a lovely day!
The emojis repeat, so I checked in with tempestclerics-- "I would be interested in your answers to both q’s for each emoji if you’re down! The more the merrier!"
So here we go!
What book has had the biggest impact on your life, and why?
There's this middle grade book called Heaven, by Angela Johnson, that's super significant to me because it's the first book I ever hated. I was in 6th grade, and I'd certainly bounced off books before, but I never actively disliked one. I read everything!
I don't remember what it was about Heaven (I'm sure it's a totally good book), but I HATED it, like thinking about it made me apoplectic. It gave me artistic taste and standards, which changed everything.
How do you organize your bookshelves? By genre, author, color, or in a completely unique way?
Broadly by category, then author last name. Categories are:
Novels
Single-author short story collections
Multi-author anthologies
Tordotcom novellas (broken down by trim size, then alphabetized)
Sherlock Holmes retellings (broken down into nonfiction, short stories, and novels, then alphabetized)
Comics and graphic novels
Plays
Poetry
Zines/chapbooks
Nonfiction (broken down by topic, too many to list)
This may seem excessive, but I always know exactly where each of my books are <3
Hardcover, paperback, ebook, or audiobook? Which format do you prefer?
Paperback > audiobook > hardcover > mass market > ebook
fuckin hate ebooks they hurt me eyes
Who is your all-time favorite author, and what makes their writing so special to you?
Lowkey I don't have one? For all the books that are super important to me, I either haven't read anything else by the author and don't feel comfortable saying they're my favorite, or I have read other things and don't like at least one book. I'm too picky :/
Still, I'll shout out Charlie Jane Anders, CL Polk, Maggie Stiefvater, VE Schwab, and Becky Chambers for writing multiple books I've loved, and to Chana Porter, Elizabeth Thomas, Emily C Danforth, and Mona Awad for writing individual books that kicked my ass.

Smutember 2021 prompts are here!
And we're back to make 2021 slightly more smutty! Thank you to all people, who asked for it to return and to all that submitted propositions of prompts. Three months should be looong enough for you to create all the smuttiness you can think of.
Rules
All posts have to be tagged with either smutember or smutember2021 hashtag (preferably both). Be aware that ns fw tag is shadowed, and posts with it are not visible in the tags. I personally suggest the revived old lemon tag. it wouldn’t hurt to @ this blog, so that your post won’t be missed, especially if your blog is new and still not shown in the tag.
No minor/underage content.
All submissions have to be at least somewhat smutty/naughty. We don’t require hard Explcit rating, a Mature one is fine too.
If you are planning on posting suggestive pics/drawings, remember that tumblr still has the ridiculous p0rn filter, so I suggest cropping the pic and adding links to external sites.
If your work contain kinks that may offend some, please tag them either in the tags, or in the body of the work.
Prompts are merely suggestions - at the end of the day, you are the one who chooses how to interpret the prompt. You can also completely ignore the prompts and have your own 30-day challenge, we’re not gonna call the internet police on you.
And in case they weren’t clear, here is a list of prompts with explanations and some propositions:
Strip Poker - cards on the table.. and maybe some clothes too. Sexy games and bets galore.
Oral - pretty self-explanatory :)
"Watcha starin' at?" - One person catches the other dressing? Or are they just peeping Toms? Your call!
Gangbang - anything related to threesomes/moresomes/ sex parties/orgies, etc. The more, the merrier.
Public sex - cos the world NEEDS to know you are in love... and remember, it's not illegal if police doesn't catch you.
In the kitchen - some call it boring and cliché, but at the same time, those countertops are at perfect height... Just make sure to the pasta doesn't overboil
Putting on a show - striptease? Cam show? Filming? Roleplay with fancy costumes? So many ways to express yourself.
Against a wall - Vertical is new horizontal. Classic case of a quickie... or just because the beds have not arrived yet.
In a vehicle - Time to rev up those engines. They say car sex is difficult, but you will find a way. Or maybe it's a spaceship? Or someone joined the mile high club? Just don't idle too much...
Hot tub - Is it hot because of the water, or because you are in there? All sorts of bathroom-related shenanigans, not necessarily in the tub itself.
Nature date - Time to return to the nature... doing it au naturel? In the forest? On top of a mountain? The whole world can be a bed if you are creative enough.
Romantic gesture - that's how it starts, with flowers and chocolates... but what happens after? And what if it fails?
Fantasy - We all have them, and so do our characters. All the roleplays, scenarios and AUs suddenly may be real.
"YES!" - That's what you will be screaming... or maybe that's all you can say, agreeing to every decision for a night?
The clock's ticking - Quickie before the boss catches you... or maybe because the world's gonna end tomorrow. Anything that makes love-making time-sensitive.
Secret rendezvous - sneaking away for a date always makes the heart pump blood faster.
Experiments - trying new kinks? New positions? Role reversal? Try it here for free!
Skinny dipping - any beach is a nudist beach if you are brave enough!
Facial - sex is messy, and it's time to embrace it. Anything related to the stckier part of love-making.
Formal wear - sometimes imagining what's underneath is part of fun. Dresses, suits, costumes, fancy parties and balls goes here.
Porno playlist - we gotta have soundtrack for the love-making. Anything related to music or ambient sounds goes here. Feel free to create said playlists!
Celebration night - time to pen bottle of champagne and celebrate.... and you decide what! Maybe even the fact that there is time to celebrate....
"You don't do that with a fruit!" - Insert peach and aubergine emoji here. Food play, aphrodisiacs, or maybe creative use of cucumbers...
Body warmth - Oh no! We're snowed in and HAVE to share a bed! What a... horror. Time-tested tropes of cuddling and being close together, always a good start for something bigger.
Breeding grounds - Time to expand the family... or maybe celebrate the expansion. Impregnation, pregnant sex, breeding fantasies go here.
Bondage - Fifty shades of please look up how it's done and use a safeword properly.
Blindfolds - close your eyes... and let other other senses guide you. From actual blindfolds, through sex in the darkness, to audiovisual deprivation.
Dirty talk - Use your adults words... a lot of them. Pre-sex or post-coital to start another round, oral is not the only way of making use of that tongue.
Wish come true - It finally happened! More fantasies and magical moments, only you decide what was that secret desire of your characters...
Free day - Didn’t enjoy the prompts? Or have you enjoyed them too much and have more ideas? Use this as a wildcard to express your creativity. Anything goes here, as long as you tag it.
And here are the raw list of prompts submitted:
strip poker
striptease, oral, gangbang, public sex, experimenting/ "Try Everything". There's probably more, but that's off the top of my head :)
something where one partner plays with themselves while the other is watching? Not quite voyeurism since they're both together. I don't know what to call it- "presenting" or "putting on a show" maybe?
sex against a wall; in a vehicle; bath or hot tub; out in nature; romantic gesture fails (but then doesn't); wish come true; Yes day (person A agrees to say yes to person B's requests for a whole day); time crunch/quickie; secret rendezvous.
skinny dipping, stripping, sex club
formal wear, pregnant sex
An inappropriate or inconvenient location requiring some discretion or creativity
Sexy Spotify Playlist! Or Makeout Music. Celebration Night (like a holiday, or birthday or anniversary. I'm bad at naming things). "You don't do that with fruit!" "Why is there porno music playing?"
Fishhooking, body warmth/heat, wet t-shirts
Multiple husbands/wives
My prompt are BONDAGE and BLINDFOLD and TEEN ANTICS.
Facial, Fantasy, Dirty Talk
cockwarming, mirror, cam show
in the kitchen; from behind; mile high club; skinny dipping; heat of the moment; summer fling; same time next year (meet same place/time every year or period of time); some repeats could be good too, oral, foreplay, fantasy, etc.
(Prompt for smutember) "Whatcha staring at, nothing to see here"

A Wake or Awake?
Fandom: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Rating: T Word Count: 835
Summary: Susie subs in for Midge at Moishe’s bedside.
When she gets to the room, Midge’s people are all crowded around outside of it. Some of them are crying, but not like the guy’s died, which alleviates Susie’s main fear—that she was gonna have to perform another impromptu eulogy.
“Oh, Susie!” It’s Midge’s mother, pushing out of the group to wrap Susie in a dainty hug. Susie pats her back with wide, nervous eyes. “Moishe is awake!”
Susie assumes that’s the guy in the bed in the room they’re waiting outside of. When Midge laid all that guilt on her—“Remember what you said at Jackie’s funeral about how people should show up?” “This guy ain’t dead.” “But what if he dies when I’m not there?”—she was expecting to sit around for a half hour or so while the guy laid there, unconscious. Silent vigil. That kinda thing. Now the guy’s awake? No, this is not what Susie signed up for.
She stands awkwardly off to one side long enough to realize somebody else is doing the same thing: Joel’s girlfriend. Sure, if the not-dead guy’s ex-daughter-in-law’s manager can come for a visit, why not his son’s semi-secret girlfriend? The more the merrier. It’s like a fuckin’ family reunion of undercover agents, watching Mei watch Joel then look away before Joel’s mother can see her.
Mei locks eyes with Susie and stares her into submission. Sheesh. Susie wasn’t gonna say anything to anybody anyway. Does she have the face of a snitch? Frank and Nicky don’t seem to think so.
The doctors and nurses finally come out of the room—a rustling, fast-moving cloud of white coats. Looks like the family’s allowed to go in now. So Susie probably oughta…
Rose Weissman tugs her along, either too happy or too numb to Susie’s behaviour to remark on her quietly muttered, “Ah, shit.”
This Moishe guy’s just pulled quite a stunt by coming back to life when everybody expected him to croak, so seats are at a premium. Susie stands uncomfortably at the foot of the bed. She’s beyond alarmed to still be here, with the son making all sorts of promises and the wife clutching the man’s hand in hers, holding it to her face, weeping over it. Maybe Susie’ll make some excuse about getting coffee or draggin’ one of those blink-and-you-miss-’em doctors back in and slip outta here before the bedpan makes an appearance.
But then ol’ Moishe—the guy who’s got it better than he probably deserves, Susie thinks, if Midge is still willing to drop everything and come to his bedside without the legal obligation of being married to his son—lifts his head up a little higher and claps eyes on Mei.
“Ah,” he says, a little groggy from being half-dead and whatever drugs they give you to bring you all the way back to alive, “the girlfriend is here.”
His voice is hoarse, but Susie hears him. Mei and Joel go stiff, so they heard him. Susie doesn’t get a look at Midge’s parents’ reaction because somehow, even over her sobbing, Moishe’s wife heard him too.
“Girlfriend?” she asks, suddenly cheerin’ right up.
Jesus. Any whiff of prospective matrimony with this family. No wonder Midge had such a hell of a time with that divorce.
It’s comic, how everybody looks at each other. Fuck, maybe Midge shoulda been here. She coulda written this into a joke better than Susie’ll ever be able to describe it to her.
Mei, though. Mei looks genuinely panicked, and Joel seems to be trying to find the balls to fess up to Mommy and coming up empty. Shit, Susie thinks, they’re not gonna put it on the old man to explain, are they? Sonofabitch. She can feel herself about to do something really stupid: put herself right in the middle of this messy family’s shit.
“Yep,” she says, moving towards Mei and chuckling phonily. “Girlfriend. She’s my girlfriend.”
Mei is sitting stock-still beside Joel and Susie drops a hand on her shoulder, staking her claim. (She hates this she hates this she hates this why the fuck did this asshole have to wake up…)
“Your girlfriend?” Joel’s mother checks, looking at her in confusion.
“Yep. Yes. Sure is.” She’s beaming. It’s hurting her face. Out of the corner of her mouth, she hisses at Mei, “Help me.”
“What the hell,” Mei hisses back.
But her hand lands on top of Susie’s and Susie anticipates the bite of nails digging into the back of her hand. It doesn’t happen.
“We’re very happy,” Mei says tightly. Oh good, Susie’s fake girlfriend has a weird voice when she’s obviously lying too. Aren’t they fucking compatible.
Joel’s mother is shopping her confused expression around the room now, seeing who might engage with her bewilderment in a more satisfying way than the two loony chicks holding hands at her husband’s bedside.
“The hospital’s mah-jongg player is dating Midge’s manager?”
Moishe has the decency to read the room and pass out. When the nurses rush in, Susie bolts.

Bad Timing (Levi x reader) Part 10
Summary: How do you tell your friends that you’re falling for your big brother’s best friend?
Word Count: 4.9 K
__
The loud buzzing of the tattoo gun was beginning to annoy Levi. The little pricks less annoying than the drone of the machine. He winced as the needle skimmed over a sensitive bit of skin.
"Try not to flinch." Farlan scolded as he readjusted his grip.
"Tch, sorry." Levi apologized through gritted teeth. Farlan reached for a wipe to clean off the excess ink, revealing the nearly finished piece. Like his other tattoos, this one was no different, the design was drawn out in thin delicate lines of ink. He had chosen to get this one on his tricep. Farlan spun his chair around to show Levi the design in the mirror, a flower, more specifically a lily of the valley. More specific yet, the flower for the month of May, the month his mother was born.
He nodded in appreciation a she admired the thin stem that led up to delicate bell shaped petals. The stems faded into a two leaves at the base of the design, they were all that needed to be filled in before the piece was complete.
"It looks good." Levi mused as he stared at the aggravated skin, the black lines were outlined with red angry skin.
"Thanks, I must admit I'm a bit rusty." Farlan chuckled as he leaned in with another wipe to clean the tattoo.
"Could've fooled me." Levi muttered as he turned in his chair to give Farlan better access.
"Let me finish this up and then we can go grab some lunch." Farlan gave the tattoo one last wipe down before he wrapped it in sandiderm. Once he was pleased with his work he tugged off the gloves and tossed them into the trash.
"Sounds good." Levi grunted as he stood up from the chair. Farlan had picked up tattooing as a side hustle, not that he booked many clients. It was more of a hobby for him, but he was rather good at it. As Farlan cleaned up the equipment and packed it back into his bag Levi went into the bathroom to wash up before they left for lunch. Isabel was out with friends, she hadn't been particularly interested in visiting the University with Levi and Farlan.
____
Levi trailed a few paces behind Farlan as they wondered through the sprawling campus. The campus had a dark academic vibe to it, with all the gothic architecture and the snowy lawns. Levi's trip was coming to a close, and he was glad that he had managed to squeeze in the visit. He spoke to an advisor, who was very enthusiastic about him applying. He figured that him coming from a single parent home, being an orphan with dual citizenship and good grades probably looked good for their statistics. So Levi and Farlan left, packets of information that they would need to apply. He decided that he should give Erwin a call, since he would be coming back home on the 26th, he originally intended on coming back after the new year but Hange had convinced him to come back early. Of course it was intended to be a surprise for Erwin and (Y/n), he felt bad for leaving Farlan and Isabel early but he figured that he could make up for the lost time when he got accepted into the University. They would have him all to themselves for four years if everything went according to plan.
"This place looks as good as any." Farlan paused in front of a small pub not too far from campus. Levi shrugged and kicked a chunk of ice out of his way. Farlan held the door open for him as they ducked into the dimly lit bar. The two settled into the barstools facing an impressive stock of alcohol, since it was about three in the afternoon the bar was basically empty save for a scraggly old dude that was mumbling to himself in a booth.
"Come here often?" Levi huffed as he inspected the sticky bar top. Farlan chuckled and waved for the bar tender.
"No actually, but I've heard that it's popular with the uni students." Faralan explained as he waited for the bar tender to finish counting the money in his hands.
"Two gin and tonics please." Farlan asked politely, the bar tender nodded and began to make the drinks.
"So you leave in what five days?" Farlan asked as he grabbed his drink and took a long swig.
"Yeah, sorry it was kind of last minute." Levi apologized, Farlan waved him off dismissively.
"Wait what did you get Isabel for Christmas this year?" Farlan asked as he slammed his already drained glass onto the counter.
"I bought her the DVD set for that one show she likes." Levi answered as he nursed his gin and tonic.
"Ah no way! That's a good one! The veterinary show right?" Farlan gushed, clearly impressed with Levi's choice of gift.
"Yeah that's the one." Levi nodded, a small smirk spreading across his lips.
"She'll love that. I got her some new jeans and a stuffed animal." Farlan shrugged, as he motioned for another drink.
"Not the shittiest choice." Levi mumbled as he brought his glass to his lips.
"Thank you Levi." Farlan held his glass up for a toast, and Levi indulged him, gently tapping his glass against Farlan's. Levi knocked back the rest of his drink before pulling out his phone to check his messages.
"What time should I pick you up from the airport?" Levi pursed his lips in thought before responding to Hange's text.
"Six in the morning." he typed his response quickly and sent it. He had already planned on arriving early to give himself plenty of time to prepare himself for the annual post Christmas party that your family hosted.
"See you then, don't have too much fun in France!" Hange's reply was instantaneous, Levi hated to admit it but he missed four-eyes and bushy brows. Hell he even missed Erwin's bratty sister.
_____
You draped your arm over your eyes in a feeble attempt to block out the blinding light that was flooding your living room. Although the snow was pretty, it sure was a bitch when the sun hit it, causing the light to reflect sharply in through the large windows in your living room. It was finally Christmas break, and you were enjoying it to it's fullest, basking in your sweats on the couch. Your mom had just gotten back from grocery shopping and was beginning to set out ingredients for the baking that she had planned to do for the rest of the afternoon. Erwin and Hange had gone ice skating with Mike and Nanaba, and planned to all meet up back at your house to assist your mom with the seasonal baking. Your phone chimed on the coffee table and you stretched to check it.
"Coffee and chill? 🥺" You rolled your eyes at Jean's message. He had been trying to contact you relentlessly for the past week. You had evaded him, not quite ready to confront him about his wrong doings. You ignored his text and instead favored to ask Mikasa if she wanted to come over to bake.
"hey I know it's been a while, but want to come over to bake cookies with me today? You could bring Armin and Eren if you want!" You sighed and dropped your phone back down onto the table with a sigh. You were pleasantly surprised by how quickly she responded.
"What time?"
"an hour?"
"See you then :)" You smiled at the screen as you read her response. You always thought it was cute how she preferred to use characters instead of emojis when she texted. You decided that a shower would be a good idea since so many people were coming over now, so you hustled up stairs. You were thankful that Hange and Erwin weren't home because they had made a habit of interrupting your showers. Whether it was Hange trying to join you in the shower to "save water" or Erwin coming in to take a massive dump while you were in the shower. So you fully took advantage of your uninterrupted shower time while you could. You took your time, washing your hair and the rest of your body and enjoying the hot water. By the time you were finished the bathroom was cloudy with steam from the hot shower. You wrapped yourself in towel and scurried to your room to change. You pulled on a pair of leggings and a cropped fitted turtleneck. You then proceeded to tug on a faded crew neck to complete the look. You loped down the stairs, but paused about half way down. The sound of shoes being toed off and a coat being hung up made you rethink your decision.
"Oh Kenny! I'm so glad you made it!" Your mom gushed and you bristled. It wasn't that you didn't like Kenny, it was just that you weren't expecting him. It seemed that your house needed to keep an Ackerman on hand at all times because as soon as Levi left Mikasa and Kenny began coming around more frequently. Your mom invited Kenny over for coffee on Sunday mornings and you invited Mikasa over for sleepovers and craft nights.
"Hey sorry I'm late, I brought booze though." Kenny's rough voice felt foreign to your ears. Despite his sudden presence at your house he still felt like a stranger to you. Of course you could only blame yourself here, you tried your best to avoid him and his questions, not sure how you felt about the gruff man. He seemed nice enough but you weren't quick to trust him, Erwin certainly wasn't either.
"Ah (Y/n)! Perfect timing! Come down stairs and say hello." your mom called out, you winced but obeyed, descending the last few steps.
"Hey there kiddo, how's it hangin'?" Kenny drawled as you slunk into the kitchen sheepishly.
"Hey Kenny, I'm good how are you?" You asked politely, aiming to please your mother more than Kenny. The man smiled triumphantly and leaned further back into his seat.
"I'm fantastic." he stated with a smug smirk plastered on his lips.
"Mom, I invited Mikasa, Amrin, and Eren over is that alright?" you asked, dismissing Kenny.
"Yeah of course baby, the more the merrier!" she cooed as she continued to set up the mixer and prop up the cook book.
"So my little niece will be joining us tonight?" Kenny affirmed as he stood to help your mother untangle to cord of the mixer.
"Yeah." you trailed off, not sure if this was good or bad. Although the pair had both been frequenting your house recently, they hadn't run into one another yet. You knew that Levi had a bad relationship with his uncle, so you could only assume that Mikasa's relationship was also just as rocky.
"haven't seen that brat since she was in diapers." Kenny mused as he flipped through the cook book.
"really? Well she sure has grown. Such a lovely young woman." Your mother sighed dreamily as she thought about Mikasa.
"Glad to hear it.." Kenny mumbled as he paused on a gingerbread recipe. Before you could decode the meaning behind his bland tone, the door flew open and Hange sauntered in. Today she was dressed for the weather in a downy parka and leggings with a thick crewneck. Erwin followed close behind, dressed in joggers and a t-shirt, he tended to get hot easily. Mike however was different. Mike was dressed for Arctic temperatures with a thick quarter zip underneath his north face and a pair of denim jeans on his legs. Nanaba wore a quarter zip as well but leggings instead of jeans. You rushed to help them shove their coats into the cramped closet and put snowy shoes over vents to melt off the ice. Soon they were all crowding into the kitchen, Mike was quick to help your mom set out ingredients while Erwin went to light the fireplace. Hange was rushing up the stairs and Nanaba was skimming through the cook book.
Ah yes such a familiar scene. You immediately felt better in the presence of the upperclassmen, Kenny seemed to melt into the background as he watched you all fall into a familiar rhythm. Erwin returned to the kitchen, dusting his hands off as he entered.
"Hey." He greeted you with a slight nod before he stooped to pull a baking sheet out of the cabinets.
"How was ice skating?" you asked as you leaned against the counter near Erwin.
"Cold, we saw Petra and Oluo there." Erwin mused as he sat the sheet down with a clatter.
"Really? Are they a thing?" you quizzed, your interest piqued.
"Couldn't say, wouldn't surprise me though." Erwin shrugged, his large frame pressed against the counter opposite to allow Nanaba to squeeze through.
"I don't know Erwin, last time I spoke to her she seemed pretty fixed on Levi." Nanaba interjected as she stooped to pull out a bowl.
"I thought she was over him. He left her hanging at my house a few months back remember?" Mike reminded Nanaba who pursed her lips in thought.
"Oh yeah I remember that...she was upset." Nanaba agreed as she sat the bowl in front of you on the counter.
"Then why was she with Oluo huh riddle me that." Erwin challenged, a sly smirk on his lips.
"Oh they've always been close, doesn't mean she likes him or anything." Nanaba scoffed.
"Well he sure likes her, saw him checking out her ass." Mike chuckled, your mom gasped and hit him upside the head.
"That's enough you guys! (Y/n), Kenny mix cut this butter up." Your mom ordered, grabbing you by the bicep to drag you over to Kenny at the island. She dropped a huge brick of butter in front of the two of you along with two butter knives.
"Oh I can do it on my own mom." you insisted with wide eyes.
"Nonsense, show Kenny how it's done." she slapped you on the back and turned to help Mike crack eggs into the wet ingredients bowl. You and Kenny shared an uneasy glance, you took the knife and sliced the chunk of butter in half. You slid half to Kenny and took the other half for yourself. You began to slice the butter into thin chunks and drop them into a bowl. Kenny watched with raised brows, the knife hanging loosely in his hand. You spared him a glance and an amused huff.
"Just slice it into chunks and drop them in this bowl." you instructed, pushing the bowl closer to him. He chuckled and then began to tediously cut the butter into uneven chunks. You nodded in approval as he began to gain confidence.
"Where does this go once it's done?" Kenny asked as he finished chopping the butter.
"In the mixer." You directed, as you wiped your hands on a damp rag. The doorbell chimed and you weaved through the kitchen to answer it. You were greeted by the familiar faces of Mikasa, Armin, and Eren. The trio piled into the house and kicked off their shoes and shrugged off jackets.
"Perfect timing guys, we just started making cookies." You said as you helped Armin out of his coat.
"Great! We brought our piping tips." Eren said, holding up a plastic bag filled with piping equipment.
"Oh yeah I forgot that you're a natural at cookie decorating Mikasa!" you complimented as you guided them into the kitchen. You placed the bag next to Kenny who was staring at Mikasa with slightly widened eyes, she returned his gaze with a surprised expression.
"Hey hothead!" Hange called out to Eren in a sing song voice as she descended the stairs.
"O-Oh Hange!" Eren cringed at her volume as she swang into the kitchen.
"Hange!" Armin cried out excitedly, you'd known that Armin looked up to the brunette due to her intelligence.
"Aw hello coconut head." she cooed as she ruffled Armin's blonde mop of hair.
"And baby Ackerman!" Hange giggles, turning her attention to Mikasa who was scowling at the brunette.
"So nice to see you all!" Hange gushed as she pulled on an apron.
"That was an awful long shit. You constipated or something?" Mike scoffed as he whisked the eggs.
"Ha ha very funny Mike." Hange scoffed as she sidled up next to Erwin who was crushing almonds loudly with a rolling pin.
"I'm just trying to pick up the slack. Someone needs to make Levi's crass jokes for him." Mike sighed, setting the whisk aside.
"Ah I'm sure he will appreciate the sentiment." Erwin approved with a chuckle and another jaw-rattling smash of the rolling pin.
"Kids why don't you start rolling this dough out and cut them with these." Your mother instructed as she thrust the large mixing bowl into your hands and pointing over to Kenny. You led Mikasa, Armin, and Eren over to the open counter space. Mikasa was side eyeing Kenny as she sprinkled some flour out.
"I want to make a penis." Eren remarked, a stupid look on his face as he looked to Armin for approval.
"That's inappropriate Eren." Armin chided as he reached for the dough in the bowl. He dropped the heavy ball of dough with a thump and a whoosh of flour.
"Hah! I'd like to see it!" Kenny chortled as he brushed some flour off his shirt.
"See he gets me!" Eren chuckled as Armin began to roll out the dough. Mikasa and you both rolled your eyes at the boys. Nanaba breezed by and brushed her hand across both yours and Mikasa's shoulders as she passed.
"You girls want pizza?" She asked with an angelic smile as she stopped by the landline.
"Yes please!" Eren answered before either of you could.
"Shut up Eren!" You snapped before turning to look at Nanaba who was holding the phone up to her ear already.
"Yes please Nanaba, can you put pineapple on one of them?" you asked with a sweet smile.
"Ew pineapple on pizza are you insane?!" Hange screeched from across the kitchen.
"Now now, if you order one with pineapple I'll eat it." Kenny agreed as he pressed a cookie cutter deep into the dough.
"Ugh, you guys are disgusting." Mike shook his head in disappointment as he poured the liquid ingredients into the dry ones for the next batch of cookies.
"Alright everyone be quiet while I order this." Nanaba ordered as she pressed the phone between her ear so she could jot down the orders on a pad of paper. The volume in the kitchen fell from a roar to a soft murmur as Nanaba placed the order. Once Nanaba hung up the phone the bustle picked right back up. The cookie hustle only stopped once all the dough was in the oven and the pizza had arrived.
When it was all said and done you all settled in the living room to watch christmas movies and eat pizza. As the movie began to play you finally took some time to check your phone for the first time all afternoon. You were surprised to see at least twenty messages on instagram from a swagmasterfarlan. You clicked on the first message and your frown deepened.
"cutte assf."
"Let me show you parish"
"I cantreat you right."
":)"
The seventeen other messages followed a similar pattern. You noticed that the last message that had been sent two hours ago. You glanced at the clock and frowned, it was already eight pm. You considered blocking the account but upon checking, you realized that it was Farlan's side account. You'd seen drunk texts before and these were no different. You glanced up to see Kenny with his hat over his eyes as he snored on the arm chair. Your mom was already dozing off on the couch with her feet in Erwin's lap, Erwin had an arm around Hange who was babbling about special effects to no one in particular. Nanaba and Mike were in their own little world on the floor as they watched the movie. Eren and Armin were joking in hushed voices as Mikasa's head lolled against your shoulder. Yeah you could use some entertainment.
"I would love to see parish." you smiled at your response as you sent it. Not two minutes later a new message appeared.
"Woh, I'm durnk as shit."
"yes you are swagmaster ;)" you responded with a giggle.
"Let facetime before levi punches my face." Farlan's words were becoming clearer so you figured that he must be sobering up to some degree.
"Alright." as soon as the read receipts confirmed that he had gotten the message your phone buzzed as he called you. Mikasa grunted as you shifted to answer the call, you answered on the third ring, thankful for the darkness in the room which concealed your features for the most part.
"Heyyyyy kid!" Farlan drawled, you could tell he was in his apartment, the surroundings familiar due to the times you had facetimed Levi.
"Hey Farlan, nice to finally meet you. I've heard all kinds of things." You chuckled as he squinted at his screen.
"No kidding! Hey what time is it over there?" Farlan questioned as he brought his phone closer to his face, giving you a perfect view of his eyebrows.
"It's about 8:30 here, what time is it in perish?" You mocked his blunder from earlier and he gasped in offense.
"That's cold!" he moaned, playing along with your joke.
"Spell it right next time!" you snickered, you glanced up from your phone and met Hange's curious gaze, her head tilted to the left. When you returned your attention back to your phone you were surprised to see the camera was no longer on Farlan's face. Instead it was spinning, the sound of grunting and shuffling was deafening. You winced the struggle continues for a few moments before there was a thud and a deep groan.
"Get into bed now before I punch your lights out." Levi's voice was gravely and strained with exhaustion as he spoke. Hange's ears were still perked as she tried to figure out who you were on the phone with. Once she heard Levi's voice she stood up and skipped over to the sofa to sit next to you.
"I'm serious Farlan this isn't cute get the fuck in that bed or so help me-" the phone clattered down to the floor, and you could make out the sound of stumbling footsteps.
"What is going on?" Hange asked as she leaned on your free shoulder to see the screen. You shrugged and bit your lip as you tried to decipher what was going on.
"No Levi, I've got to talk to her, she's still on the phone!" Farlan grumbled, his voice sounded a bit far away.
"You can talk to her tomorrow just go lay down already." just by the tone of his voice you could guess that he was pinching the bridge of his nose the way he did when he was frustrated.
"nah I'll just go grab my phone and-"
"No." the sound of bed springs creaking and Farlan grunting hinted that he had been pushed onto a bed. After a few more moments of the bed creaking and incoherent mumbling, the sound of footsteps approached the phone and then finally the camera was turned back towards the ceiling as it was picked up. And then Levi's face filled the screen, his eyes widened in surprise, you snapped a screenshot of the moment much to his displeasure.
"What the fuck." he huffed as he took in both you and Hange's amused expressions.
"Hey Levi! How's it going?" Hange cooed as she angled your wrist to show more of her face.
"How-"
"He called me." You answered quickly as you angled the phone back onto your face.
"why?" Levi interrogated. You simply shrugged as you took in his face. You were relieved to see that he looked the same, maybe his eye bags were a bit darker, and his hair a tad longer. But otherwise, he was the same.
"What are you doing?" Levi continued to grill you, to answer his question you panned the camera around the room, sure to not linger on Kenny who was snoring in the chair across the room.
"Thrilling." he scoffed when you brought the camera back to your face.
"Yeah, we spent the day baking. What about you? Seems like you guys are busy." You began your own interrogation.
"Yeah, Farlan had one too many at the bar." Levi agreed as he dropped down into an arm chair with a heavy sigh.
"And you? Did you have anything to drink?" Hange asked with a sly smirk. Levi's brow creased at her suggestive tone.
"If you must know, no I did not drink.... a lot." he answered.
"Lucky, I wish I was drunk right now." you sighed wistfully.
"I never said I was drunk." Levi clarified.
"Any big plans for your birthday Levi?" You asked, quick to change the subject.
"No, just dinner and gifts." Levi replied with a shrug as he sank into the chair.
"That sounds nice." you smiled, Hange dropped her head to your shoulder, her chin digging into your shoulder as she did so. Levi shrugged and averted his gaze for a moment.
"Where's Isabel?" Hange asked as here eyes scanned the background, which was too dark to really reveal anything.
"In her room playing some stupid video game." Levi scoffed as he cocked his head in the direction which you assumed Isabel's room was.
"Fun." Hange mused as she closed her eyes.
"And you? What are your plans for Christmas?" Levi's question surprised you, but you still answered.
"Same as always, gifts in the morning, breakfast, hopefully be plastered by 2." you sighed, Levi scoffed at your answer but seemed satisfied.
"What about the 26th?" Levi asked carefully. you pursed your lips as you thought about your schedule.
"Hmm well I'm not sure, probably-"
"Oh I forgot to tell you, Annie is hosting a party and asked me if you'd come." Mikasa's sleepy voice startled you.
"Really? Huh that's weird. Are you going?" you asked, tilting your face down to speak to her.
"Yeah. We're smoking weed." Mikasa mumbled, her eyes still shut.
"Guess I'll go too." you shrugged. Meanwhile Hange and Levi shared a wide-eyed glance, this could throw off their plans. More specifically Hange's plans, even more specifically her plan to set you and Levi up.
"Weed?" Levi asked, clearing his throat after the word fell from his lips. You knew that he had smoked the stuff in the past, but recently he had stuck to his juul and the occasional dab pen.
"yeah, Annie has like 30 grams right now." Mikasa answered.
"I've never smoked weed before." you mused, excitement bubbling up in your chest at the thought of the chance for a new experience.
"Eh it's okay." Mikasa shrugged.
"Guess I'll just have to try it for myself." you teased, nudging her with your shoulder.
"Guess you will." Mikasa mumbled before falling silent once more.
"Well there you have it. I'm going to Annie's on the 26th." you smiled as you answered Levi's original question. With the 26th only three days away, it gave you something to look forward to.
"Fine. Do what you want." Levi rolled his eyes and stood from his chair, his whole vibe seemed to change. You wondered if it had been something you'd said or if he was just growing bored.
"I've got to go. Farlan's phone is almost dead." Levi said as he walked through the apartment.
"Oh well it was nice-" before you could finish he had already hung up, or the phone had died.
"Classic Levi." Hange chuckled as she rose up, stretching her stiff muscles before returning to Erwin's side. You rolled your eyes and sat your phone down in defeat. You reached behind you for a throw blanket to cover you and Mikasa, you shuffled over a bit so you were snuggled between the arm of the couch and Mikasa, who had followed you. Using the arm as a pillow you lied down as much as you could with Mikasa still using your side as a pillow, she had stretched out as well to prop her feet up in Eren's lap. Eren was already passed out, his head leaning against Armin's shoulder, who was in a similar position to you. It was nice, you hadn't made much time for nights like these recently. Since you had spent most of your time with Jean you had neglected your friends, and you felt awful about it.
You had missed them deeply, in fact this had probably been the longest you'd gone without a weekend like this. Your family had been close to the Jeagers since you were babies. Your mom and Dr. Jeager both worked at the same hospital and often worked together, they had only grown closer when your father died of cancer when you were 9. Grisha and Carla had helped your mother our a lot the months following his death. Meaning you spent a lot of time with Eren and Mikasa, and by extension Armin. That same year was when they took in Mikasa since Kenny had been deemed "unfit" for a second child in his care. You assumed that the Jeagers would be coming over for Lunch like they always did on Christmas, as well as Armin and his grandfather. You felt your eyelids grow heavy as you thought about all the preparations that were needed for you to host this year, and before you knew it you had fallen asleep.

I know a couple ppl have already written it, but the more the merrier? What happened when Robbe got home last night.
*
The door shut with a swish and a click behind Robbe, and he sighed to himself as he toed off his shoes and stepped into the living room, somehow not surprised to see Sander on the couch, head swiveling in his direction.
“You’re back,” Sander said, watching Robbe round the couch, let his camera bag fall on the other chair and sink in next to Sander.
“Where’s my mom?” he asked, not really caring about the answer as Sander’s arm fell around his shoulder. After the night he’d had, he could use some peace and quiet.
“She went to bed an hour ago,” Sander replied, fingers combing gently through his hair, and Robbe couldn’t help his sigh. “I thought you’d be back a while ago.”
Robbe made a noise, shaking his head. He knew Sander probably had to get home, probably shouldn’t have waited for him, but he certainly didn’t want Sander to go now.
“It was not exactly the night I thought it would be.”
“Was the place not okay?”
“No, it’s not that,” Robbe assured him easily, tucking his feet underneath him, snaking an arm around Sander’s waist and holding on tight.
The rest of the car ride back to Moyo’s place had been pure and utter torture, a cold silence filling the car that Robbe had been eager to escape, even with the prospect of walking his bike all the way back home.
“The roof was amazing,” he said, relaxing with Sander’s fingers brushing back his hair, knowing Sander was watching him. “It’s just on the way back, we kind of had an accident.”
“An accident?” Sander repeated, fingers pausing in his hair. “Weren’t you on your bike? Did someone hit you?”
“No,” Robbe said quickly, glancing up at the worry on Sander’s face. “My bike got a flat so Moyo had to drive. Kato was being distracting, standing out of the sun roof, and Moyo accidentally hit a parked car.”
“Shit,” Sander said, hands pulling Robbe up now, inspecting his face as though expecting to see cuts and bruises. “Are you okay?”
Robbe was fine. They were all fine. Except perhaps Moyo’s car and the car they’d hit. The car they’d hit and just left without so much as a note.
“I’m fine,” he said as Sander’s fingers grazed down his face, as Sander let out a relieved breath, shaking his head, pulling Robbe’s lips to his for a soft kiss.
“Thank God.” Sander met his gaze, eyebrows still furrowed with concern. “Did you call the cops?”
Looking away, Robbe shrugged. “Kato didn’t want to. She was worried her parents would find out.”
“So?” Sander asked, frowning now. “She wasn’t the one driving. Does Moyo even have his license?”
“He has a permit,” Robbe admitted. It felt even more stupid now, the decision to take Moyo’s car. It hadn’t been a good idea in the first place, but Kato had been so adamant.
Sander’s frown deepened, hands resting on Robbe’s neck, as though filtering through a thousand thoughts, a thousand thoughts Robbe had already had since he’d arrived at Moyo’s place with his flat tire and Kato snapping at him for being late.
“Why didn’t you just call a taxi?”
Robbe shrugged uselessly. “There wasn’t any time to think. Kato really wanted to get to the roof…” He shook his head. He didn’t have an answer for why they’d agreed. It had been a stupid idea.
“Kato,” Sander repeated, sounding annoyed, and Robbe reached for Sander’s hand, twining their fingers together instead. “What is with this girl?”
“I don’t know,” Robbe said with a sigh. “I barely know her. She and Moyo have been dating for weeks, but we’ve hardly spoken.”
“And she just needed you to film her?” Sander asked, voice hard. “And Moyo had to drive, even without a full license, and you just happened to get in a crash.”
Robbe frowned. When Sander put it like that, it sounded pretty bad. “It wasn’t on purpose.” He could see Sander getting upset, the hard line to his mouth, wrinkles in his forehead, the way his fingers clenched around Robbe’s. “Hey,” he said gently, reaching for Sander’s face. “I’m fine. Everything is fine.”
“She doesn’t think about other people,” Sander said harshly, and Robbe sighed. He couldn’t disagree, but getting upset wasn’t going to help anything. Moyo had been angry, rightfully so, and he’d left them both at his house without a word. Robbe had no idea what was going to happen with the car, if Moyo’s mom would find out, if it would make things worse at home. “What if you had gotten hurt? What if Moyo had been thrown in jail? All because she had to film this video.”
Robbe couldn’t argue, scooting closer to Sander on the couch, wrapping his arms around his shoulder and pressing a kiss to his shoulder. “The important thing is we didn’t get hurt.”
Sander didn’t look appeased, a simmering of anger just below the surface as he glanced at Robbe. “I still don’t like it, the whole situation.”
“I know,” Robbe agreed, taking a deep breath along with Sander. It wasn’t how he’d thought the night would go. It certainly wasn’t how he’d wanted it to go. He’d texted Moyo after he left, just to make sure he was okay. All he’d gotten back was a thumbs up emoji, so at least Moyo was responding to him.
Though Sander still seemed annoyed, he sunk back into the couch, pulling Robbe closer, breathing in his hair, pressing a kiss to his temple. “Next time I see her, I’m going to say something.”
“Sander,” Robbe said, feeling Sander’s huff of breath against his skin.
“Fine, but someone should.”
Robbe couldn’t say he disagreed, but for now, he let his body melt into Sander’s as he closed his eyes. It had been a long night, and he was quite ready for it to be over.

New Light Part: 2
College Levi x Reader(Modern AU)
W/C: 5.2k
T/W: None
A/N: Levi is a moody English major who spends his free time reading at the local cafe. I’m having a lot of fun writing this ! (pic from pinterest)
I’ve put all the parts in one list here: New Light Masterlist
Levi’s POV
Levi and Erwin sat in silence on their drive home. The blinker would occasionally fill the car with a strong click. Levi counted the lit up rooms in the passing apartments. Five, Six, Seven… He wanted to keep his mind off of you, the way your hair framed your face, your hand caressing the mug, the way you pressed your lips together when you listened someone speak.
“So, how long have you known (Y/N)?” Erwin asked as if he knew Levi was thinking about you.
“A couple of months,” he responded.
“Do you like her?” Erwin prodded.
“She’s nice,” Levi said.
Erwin nodded, he knew better than to ask further.
This was how their conversions normally went, Erwin would begin with a blunt statement and Levi would respond in a short manner. From an outsider’s perspective, it might have seemed like the two men weren’t friends but this dynamic worked for them. Erwin was straightforward with what he wanted and Levi didn’t like talking about personal subjects, even with one of his closest friends.
When they arrived to their shared apartment, they said their goodnights and went into their rooms. Erwin had to be up early tomorrow for a debate meeting and Levi wanted to be alone. After they moved out of the dorms they decided to keep living together because it was the most cost effective option and plus Levi liked that Erwin was as neat as him, almost as neat. They lived in an old, walk-up apartment ten minutes away from Wall Rose University in a quiet neighborhood. They’ve been living there for three years now and had no plans to move out anytime soon.
Levi opened the window slightly to let the cool air in, raindrops fell from the gutter and filled the dark bedroom with gentle taps.. He laid down on the bed and breathed in the smell of the city and old books in his room. He closed his eyes and let his body melt into the bedsheets, he used the same lavender fabric softener his mom loved. Mmm, I should give her a call tomorrow, he thought. He felt his thoughts bounce around in his head but he was too tired to unravel them. Levi focused on his breathing and eventually his thoughts subdued into lenient bystanders.
There was silence around him when suddenly, you popped up in his thoughts. Levi let out a small sigh. Fuck, what are the odds of her knowing Hange. Hange of all people, the one person who doesn’t know how to shut up, Levi thought. Frustration began to fill his chest. He wanted you to meet his friends and he wanted to know more about you but he didn’t want it to happen like this. Levi wanted to do it right with you. He knew wasn’t the most charismatic or hospitable person and romance wasn’t his forte. Romance, Levi thought and chuckled. He remembered Erwin’s earlier question. Do I like her?
He sat up and pinched the bridge of his nose with his index and forefinger. He didn’t have a ton of experience with romance. His only relationship with Petra ended in a disaster, she broke up with him after feeling neglected for months. That was never Levi’s intent, he loved her but he didn’t know how to express it. Whenever he saw her on campus she would always give him a smile and wave which Levi would reciprocate. He regretted the way everything ended but he was thankful she didn’t hold a vengeance against him. He was 18 and foolish but he was older now and slightly less foolish.
Levi looked out the window and started to form a plan in his head. It was evident he had some sort of feelings for you, you were funny, pretty, easy to talk to and you cared about what he had to say. He smiled as he remembered how earnestly you looked at him while he explained the latest book he was reading, he started reading books he thought you might like. Shitballs, maybe I do like her. There was nothing he could do now, he didn’t want to do anything until he had a better understanding about what you were thinking. He nodded his head, proud of his plan.
The hardwood floor creaked as Erwin walked over to the bathroom. Outside of the window, the sky was beginning to glow with a soft orange hue. Levi closed the curtain, pulled off his clothes and tucked himself into bed. He curled his body around a pillow and slowly began to drift off, eager to wake up to begin his plan.
The crisp autumn hit your face as you opened the doors to the lecture hall. You felt light and airy after finishing your genetics midterm. It was one of the hardest tests you’ve taken but you felt okay about it. Hange had helped you study for the past week and their enthusiasm and studying techniques helped you out immensely. I owe them big time, you thought. Your phone buzzed in your pocket, it was Hange.
Hange: U FREAKING DID IT!!! IM SO PROUD XD
You: thank uuu, i feel good about it!
Hange: YAY! We’re out in the park blocks! Join us!
You: ok !
You stared at the screen and re-read the conversation. Join us...they must mean Levi and Erwin. You scoffed the tip of your boot into the pavement, the familiar feeling of nerves began to dance in your stomach. Slowly, you made your way to the park blocks, the on-campus park where students would have picnics and study sessions. Students began to pour out of lecture halls and other buildings, eager to celebrate the end of midterms week. There was an undeniable feeling of excitement as they cheered and laughed.
You stood at the edge of the park looking for the trio. Levi waved his hand from a picnic bench and smiled at you. Your heart momentarily stopped and you realized you’ve never seen him outside of the cafe. He was wearing a hunter green sweater and his black overcoat. The wind feebly moved through his hair but even from farway you could see the deep circles around his eyes. You made your way to the trio and gave out a half-hearted hello.
“(Y/N)! How do you feel?!” Hange shouted.
“Fucking relieved,” You said. Levi smiled.
“I’m proud of you, (Y/N). Hange told us about all the hours you studied for the exam.” Erwin gave you a thumbs up.
“Thanks, dude. How were your midterms?” You asked as you sat down next to Erwin.
“They went well! I think I got an A on my Political Theory exam but we’ll find out soon enough.”
“Erwin, you clown, you know you aced that test.” Hange rolled their eyes. “But thanks to the lovely Levi, I know I got an A on my essay.”
Levi frowned. “Tsk, I was surprised you even knew how to spell.”
Hange hit Levi’s shoulders and he swiped back.
“Hey, stop it you two,” Erwin scolded. “I swear, they’re like children.”
You laughed and nodded. The Levi you knew was always stoic and calm but Hange brought out a different side of him. He looked happier even when he was annoyed. You grabbed a dead leaf from the table and started to pull it apart, rubbing the dead plant bits between your fingers.
“Are you good?” Levi’s voice broke your concentration. You looked up and met his gray-blue eyes.
“Yep, all good here.” You smiled at him and he returned one back.
“That’s fantastic! So tonight. Ymir’s Bar at eight. Got it?” Hange ordered.
Erwin and Levi nodded in response and looked at you. Your eyes darted between the three of them.
“Uh, I would love but I’m hanging out with a few people tonight.”
“Please, join us! Your friends are more than welcome to come, the more the merrier,” Hange begged.
“I beg to differ…” Levi mumbled.
“Shut up, grumps.” Hange elbowed Levi and returned their gaze back to you. “It’ll be fun, I’ll buy you a shot.”
You rolled your eyes, “fine, but I’m buying you a shot. I owe you, Hange.”
Hange squealed and clapped their hands. “Yay! My friend, Moblit will tag along too. You haven’t met him yet but he’s great and such a talented artist. You’ll love him.”
“Sweet, I’m excited, can you send me the address?” You responded. Hange nodded.
“Who are you hanging out with?” Erwin asked.
“Oh, uh. My boyfriend and some of our friends,” You muttered.
“I didn’t know you had a boyfriend. (Y/N) why didn’t you tell me?” Hange asked, heartbroken.
Erwin glanced at Levi. He was looking at the grains in the table, his heart sank but he knew better than to let his friends know.
“I don’t know. It didn’t seem like the most important thing to talk about during our study sessions.” You were unsure why but you felt defensive over Hange’s comment.
Hange looked hurt at your response, you felt a pang of regret. You didn’t mean to keep your relationship a secret but your life didn’t revolve around your relationship so it felt pointless to bring him up. The air around the table was tense and cold. The sun was setting and the four of you were on the brink of being enveloped by the shadow of a large lecture hall.
“Regardless, I’m eager to meet your boyfriend and friends,” Erwin said in a strained voice.
“Yeah, I’m excited for all of you to meet. I think I’m going to go home and get ready.”
“Of course, we’ll see you soon,” Erwin said in a quiet tone.
You waved goodbye to all of them, the trio waved back and you made your way to the bus station. As you waited for the bus, you sent your boyfriend a message to meet your new friends at Ymir’s. He sent back a simple thumbs up emoji as a response. You pulled out a pair of headphones and blasted music to drown out your thoughts. Yet Levi’s face kept on appearing in your head, the way the sunlight caressed the hard lines of his face, his honest smile when he was with his friends, the way his eyes lost their glow when you announced you had a boyfriend. We never did anything. Hell, I didn’t even know his name until last week so why should I care what he thinks. We’re just coffee shop friends, that’s it. The bus pulled to the stop, you waited for everyone to exit before entering and made your way to the back window seat. The glass was cold on your forehead but it felt nice. You sighed, preparing yourself for a night out with your new friends and your boyfriend.
Levi’s POV
After you left, Hange and Erwin looked at Levi with concern in their eyes. Levi noticed their stares and glanced up at them.
“The fuck you looking at,” he growled.
“Levi, I’m sorry,” Hange whispered.
“About what?” He scoffed.
Erwin was about to speak but Levi abruptly got up and buttoned his coat. “I’m going home. I’ll see you both at Ymir’s.”
Erwin and Hange exchanged a look and nodded. When Levi made up his mind there was no stopping him. They watched him walk away, his head was slightly lower than usual. Levi walked over to the bike rack and unhooked his black low handle bicycle. In one smooth motion, he drapped his leg over the seat and began to peddle home. The wind hurt his face and burned his lungs but he pushed harder and harder on the pedals. Crouching down on the seat as he biked up the hills, hoping to ride away from the bench to run away from his disillusion that you could love him.
A few hours later, Erwin, Hange and Moblit entered the apartment. Hange called out to Levi.
“Hey, Mr. Grumps! We have something for yoooou!!” They called out.
Levi moaned and rolled out of bed, his bare feet hit the cold ground as he dragged himself to the living.
“What is it, Four Eyes? Hey, take off your disgusting shoes,” he scolded. “Oh, hey, Moblit.”
Moblit raised his head slightly as a hello. He wasn’t a man of many words. Hange held up a bottle of whiskey and grinned. “So we could pre-game. Take this as a thank you present for helping me write my essay.”
Levi rolled his eyes and smiled. He was touched by Hange’s generosity but he would never dare show it to them.
“I’ll grab us some mugs,” Erwin said and began to walk towards the kitchen.
“No, Erwin! Tonight’s a shot type of night,” Hange said deviously.
The three men looked at them and hesitantly nodded. They wanted to relax and unwind but a night out led by Hange always ended up with someone’s head in the toilet. Still, they each filled a shot glass, cheered and downed the alcohol. They drank for a while, everyone’s faces were glowing. Hange was blasting music and dancing. Moblit watched them with admiration. Erwin and Levi were giggling over something stupid Erwin said.
Erwin looked at the clock, it was closing in on 8. “Shit, we should get going.”
“Hey, man watch your mouth. And maybe we should stay in. It’s cheaper,” Levi said.
“Levi, noooo. We can’t do that. We told (Y/N) that we would meet her at Ymir’s!” The alcohol was already getting to Hange.
“Who’s (Y/N)?” Mobit asked.
“My friend from genetics! And Levi’s too,” Hange proclaimed.
Levi rolled his eyes. “Tsk, she’s not my friend. I hardly know her.”
“Mmm, if you say so.”
“Whatever, let’s go,” Levi said curtly.
The four of them grabbed their coats and headed to Ymir’s. It was only a ten minute walk from their place. Hange let everyone know that you had already arrived and saved a table on the back patio. As they walked, they talked about their finals and plans for the upcoming break. When they arrived at Ymir’s, they pushed open the door and entered the humid room. The bar was full of people celebrating the weekend, a couple was making out in one of the booths and people were lined around the bar. They ordered their drinks and walked through the back doors.
Levi’s hands began to sweat and he felt a lump in his throat when he saw you. You looked beautiful under the glow of the patio lights, you were smiling and had a beer glass on your lips and you were laughing. Erwin stood in place and Hange stopped their chatter.
“Oh, so that’s what they’re doing now,” Hange spouted.
They were referring to Zeke who had their arm around you and to Porco and Pieck who were sitting across from you and your boyfriend.
You saw the group at the back entrance and waved. Your nerves from earlier were completely forgotten after your second beer. Zeke rubbed his thumb against your shoulder and you smiled out of habit. You made eye contact with Levi and gave him a toothy grin, his eyes darted away. Your friends looked at the party headed towards them and stopped talking but you didn’t notice.
“Hey, I was wondering if y’all forgot where the bar is,” you joked but no one laughed.
“Erwin. Levi. It’s been a while,” Zeke stated.
You looked at him confused. “What? You know them?”
Zeke chuckled, “yeah, I guess I do.”
“Zeke, it’s nice to see you again. Same to you Porco and Pieck,” Erwin stated.
Porco and Pieck looked at each other and smiled. “It’s nice to see you too, Erwin,” Pieck said in a sweet voice.
Levi glared at the way Zeke’s arm was draped across your shoulder. He gritted his teeth. Hange noticed how tense he was getting and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“What a small world! I’m glad everyone knows each other. Guys, sit down!” You motioned at the empty seats at the table, completely misreading the space.
Hange was the first to sit and the rest followed. The table was quiet for a few minutes, everyone sipped on their drinks.
“Levi, I like your scarf,” You pointed to the black scarf draped across his body.
“Thanks.”
“Yeah, it’s such a nice scarf,” Zeke repeated.
Levi gave Zeke a dirty look. Hange looked at him nervously and Moblit put a hand on their knee to calm them. You took another sip of your beer.
“Yeah, Zeke, it is a nice scarf. That’s why I complimented it. Anyways, how do you all know each other?” Confidence surged through your veins thanks to the alcohol.
“We were floormates freshman year,” Levi’s dry voice said.
“Wait-oh, I see,” You said.
Erwin began to make casual conversation with everyone while Levi stared at the bottom of his glass. Hange and Moblit joined Erwin and conversed with the other two at the table. Wait, is Zeke the one that called Erwin’s kickback lame? That’s the only possibility, right? Your head was dizzy from the alcohol but the puzzle pieces were starting to fall into place.
“Hey, (Y/N),” Porco called out.
“Huh?”
“You good? It looks like we lost you there for a second.”
“Yeah, Porco. I’m fine,” You said sarcastically.
“Zeke, you and (Y/N) make a good couple,” Erwin said.
Zeke chuckled and squeezed you closer to his toned body, “I know but thank you.”
You kept your head down unsure about what to do. It was evident that Zeke had an issue with Erwin and Levi but you didn’t fully understand why. From what you heard, Zeke was the one who was mean to the other two but Zeke was your boyfriend so you should be on his side, right? You took another swig of your beer.
“Levi, are you still with Petra?” Pieck asked.
Petra? Who the fuck is that, you thought, anger coursed through your veins.
“No,” Levi said.
“Oh, that’s too bad. She was such a lovely girl,” Pieck sighed.
“Who’s Petra?” You asked.
No one answered your question. You looked at Pieck but she kept her eyes down. What the fuck is up?
“She’s a girl I dated freshman year,” Levi explained.
“Oh.”
Hange broke the tension by shouting, “(Y/N), I promised you a shot! Who else wants one?”
Pieck, Moblit and Erwin raised their hands. Hange called over a server and asked for a round of shots for everyone. A few minutes later, they brought tequila shots for the table. Everyone grabbed their lime and raised their glass.
“To finishing finals!” Hange exclaimed.
The table repeated what Hange said and took their shot. You and Porco laughed at Pieck’s face and she stuck her tongue out at you. Zeke kissed your cheek and you leaned into his warm body. For a second, it felt like it did at the beginning of your relationship. You felt safe and hopeful but those feelings disappeared when you caught Levi looking at you and Zeke. Immediately, you pulled away and Zeke frowned. You weren’t one for PDA but after a few drinks you didn’t mind showing your man some love but under Levi’s eye it felt wrong.
“Let’s do another shot!” Hange shouted.
“Hange!! Let me buy you a shot!!” You shouted back.
“(Y/N), you’re the best!!” Hange exclaimed, their cheeks glowing under the lights.
Everyone took another shot and the mood around the table began to lighten as everyone got drunker. Porco made a few jokes that made Erwin laugh. Zeke talked to Hange about their senior thesis. Everything seemed to be falling into place except for Levi. He didn’t make an effort to hold a conversation with anyone. He stared at the empty shot glasses and occasionally smiled at whatever Erwin said.
The patio lights shadows made Levi look heavenly, the soft glow bounced off his pale skin and you tried not to stare but you couldn’t, he looked so pretty.
Zeke could sense that your thoughts were taking you elsewhere so he gave you a kiss on the check. You gave him a smile in return.
The bar was packed and everyone at the table was talking after a new round of drinks. It should be a perfect night, all of your friends seemed to be getting alone but something didn’t feel right. In that moment, you wished it could have been Levi holding your body. Stop, Levi is just a friend, that’s it. I love Zeke. You repeated in your head over and over.
As the night dragged on, you slowly began to lose touch with reality, everything became a happy, surreal blur. Throughout the night, Zeke kept his hands on your body. Before that would have kept you grounded but now it felt off, you weren’t sure if it was the alcohol but you didn’t want him to touch you. You kept on smiling and talking to everyone until the bartender called for final orders.
“This was nice but I think we should get going now,” Erwin declared.
“Yeah, I think you’re right,” Pieck said.
Everyone gathered their belongings and started to walk towards the front door. Zeke walked ahead with Porco and Pieck but you stayed behind with the others. Erwin, Hange and Moblit left you and Levi together alone. Hange’s arm was wrapped around Moblit’s shoulder. They leaned against their body and continued talking.
“Hey, I had a good time tonight,” You said to Levi who barely acknowledged your existence.
“It was okay,” He stated.
The two of you followed the others.
“But what are the odds of us forming a friendship in this way, right?” You said.
“Tsk, a friendship? We hardly know each other, I wouldn't push it,” Levi responded.
“I guess you’re right,” You muttered.
Levi felt bad about his harsh tone but he didn’t know what to do. He still had the same warm feeling in his chest from before but watching Zeke touch you hurt him. All of you had exited the bar and you walked over to Zeke and he placed his jacket over your shoulders.
“Well, it was, uh, nice to catch up with all of you. Hange thank you for helping my girl study. Get home safe,” Zeke said. You smiled and everyone and waved.
“Zeke, the same to you too. Glad to know you’re doing well. (Y/N) congrats on finishing midterms. See you later,” Erwin said.
“I love yoouuu! I love all of you!” Hange shouted. Moblit still had his arm around Hange to stabilize them.
“Love you too, Hange!” You blew them a kiss.
They all turned and began to walk home. Porco and Pieck had already left in their Uber. You looked at Zeke and he gave you a smile and you smiled back out of habit.
Zeke made conversation on your way back to his place. You wrapped your arms around your body and counted the steps in between each street light. The air around you was dry and your breath fell to the ground in a transparent cloud. Eventually, you made it to Zeke’s apartment, it was highrise close to downtown. When you entered the apartment your attention immediately went to the large windows. They faced the city skyline and the lights poured into the living room and gently outlined the minimal furniture in the room. Zeke led you to the bedroom and began to kiss the back of your neck. His beard tickled your neck and left goosebumps on your skin. You rolled your shoulders and stepped away.
“Come on,” Zeke groaned.
“No, not tonight. I’m really tired,” You said.
You made your way to the bathroom and turned on the harsh lights. The lights bounced off the white tiles and highlighted the bags under your eyes. You stared at yourself for a while, the longer you stared, the faster your thoughts swirled in your head. Is Levi made at me? You splashed cold water on your face and tried to wash off the awkwardness from tonight but no matter how hard you scrubbed, you couldn’t get the image of Levi staring at the empty glasses out of your head.
When you walked back into the bedroom you saw Zeke passed on the bed. You smiled at him and placed a blanket over his body and brushed his hair away from his forehead. You curled up on the opposite side of the bed and wrapped a blanket around yourself. Zeke’s soft snores filled the room, normally that was enough to lull you to sleep but lately it was becoming more of a nuisance. Why am I feeling like this? I love Zeke and he loves me back, that should be enough. So why do I feel so unsure? Zeke wasn’t your first partner but he was your first proper love. Everything beforehand had felt like practice for this.
The two of you had met in the spring term of sophomore year. The sun was shining and you we’re sitting on a blanket with Rico bouncing off ideas for research projects. You kept an eye on the baseball team who were practicing near the two of you. Rico was in the middle of explaining her ideas when a baseball flew in your direction.
“Heads up!” shouted a deep voice.
Both of you covered your heads as the ball flew over your blanket. The footsteps of one of the players was nearing your spot.
“Hey, I’m sorry about that.”
You tried to look up but the sun was blinding your eyes. You were able to make out the outline of a tall, man with broad shoulders and wavy blonde hair. He flashed a charismatic smile and said,“the name’s Jaeger. Zeke Jaeger.”
You introduced yourself and Zeke knelt down so his head was at your level.
“Nice to meet you. I feel about almost hitting you. Not sure what happened, normally I have perfect aim.” He winked at you. “Let me make it up by taking you out for a drink, your friend is more than welcomed to come.”
You blushed and thanked him and began to decline your offer when Rico interrupted you.
“She, I mean, we would love that. Here’s her number and mine, too.”
“Thanks, I’ll shoot y’all a text.”
Zeke stood up, grabbed the ball and gave you a wave before running back to his team. From that point on, the two of you had been inseparable.
You drifted off thinking about those first memories, the sweetness of his touch, the excitement of loving Zeke, the hopefulness you had. If you kept on thinking about those moments then maybe they would manifest back into your life. You wanted back that stability in your love so much it hurt your chest.
The next day you rolled over to an empty bed. Your hand traced the cold sheets and you kept your hands in the sunlight, the warmth felt good compared to the draft in Zeke’s bedroom. He preferred a colder bedroom, he said it was better for the body. The front door opened and you pretended to be asleep. Zeke’s footsteps got closer to the bed and you felt him press a kiss to your cheek, he smelled of sweat and musk. Who goes on a run after a night out? You thought. The showerhead turned on and you heard Zeke sing.
You got up and rummaged through Zeke’s drawer and pulled out a navy cardigan. You wrapped the fabric over your body and padded your way to the kitchen. The kitchen was colder than the bedroom.
“Fuck, who lives like this?”
You poured yourself water and stared at the tiles on the walls. Re-playing Levi’s comment in your head. Tsk, a friendship? We hardly know each other, I wouldn't push it. You didn’t blame Levi for his harshness but his comment hurt. There was no denying that you two shared a kinship that was a bit deeper than friendship. Romance wasn’t the word for it either. The relationship you had formed with him felt safe, you felt understood and respected in a way you haven’t really before. Your concentration was broken when you heard Zeke enter the kitchen.
“Hey, babe. Good morning.” He pressed a kiss to your temple. “I bought you a smoothie.”
“Thanks, Zeke,” you responded.
He grabbed the smoothie from the fridge and smiled at you. You sat on the counter and began to sip on the drink. Zeke hummed to himself and began to pull out a pan from the cupboard.
“Whatcha thinking about?” you asked.
“Life.”
“Like, the gameboard?” You joked.
He rolled his eyes. “Honestly, I’m thinking about last night. I never thought I was going to see those guys ever again.”
“Mmm, why did something happen?” You said nonchalantly.
Zeke chuckled, “stupid freshman things. We were all young and dumb.”
He stayed silent afterwards as he went on to fry some eggs. The eggs sizzled in the pan and he whistled quietly. You knew him well enough to know he wanted to say something else.
“I mean, I did dumb stuff when I was freshman so how bad can it actually be?” You prodded.
Zeke stared at you with a series expression. “Look (Y/N), I don’t really want to hash out what happened but-” he hesitated as he looked for the right words to say, “-be careful around Levi. There’s something off about that guy.”
“Oh,” you muttered.
You continued drinking the smoothie, the smell of the egg was making you nauseous and you started to feel the hanging over. You went back into the bedroom and laid down. Your phone buzzed and saw a text from Hange.
Hange: OMG i’m so hungover, i don’t remember getting home
You: Hange, WTF that’s not good lol but I know you were in good hands ;)
Hange: wut does that mean??
You: Moblit lol he was so nice and caring
Hange: … no comment but what are you doing
You: nothing really, why?
Hange: do you want to get brunch?
Hange: it’ll just be the two of us :)
You: yeah, i would love that, send me the address !
The smell of egg had entered the bedroom and you gagged. You hated the smell but Zeke insisted that it was the best way to get protein in the morning. You grabbed your belongings and walked to the kitchen again. Zeke was sitting at the counter eating the eggs and drinking his smoothie while reading the paper.
“Hey, I think I’m gonna head out!”
“Really? I thought we could spend the day together before I leave,” Zeke responded.
“You’re leaving?” You paused while putting on your shoes.
“I thought I told you. My internship is taking me on a trip for the next three days and then I’m heading home for the break,” Zeke said in between bites of food.
“Shit. You didn’t tell me. How about we hang out later today?”
“Yeah, I guess that sounds good to me. I’ll see you later,” he said.
“See ya.”
You went back to your apartment to freshen up and hurried to the diner Hange was it. You stepped through the doors and immediately saw Hange’s smiling face. They were waving you to their table. You greeted them with equal excitement and walked to them. For the past few weeks, some of your favorite moments have been hanging out with them. They always brightened your mood with their cheerful banter and love for life. You were excited to eat brunch with them and question them more about the history between the trio and your boyfriend.

Chapter 4
The train journey was excruciatingly long, just as they remembered it to be. Karatsugu peered out the window beside him, his eyes stuck to the darkening sky above, which was also tinted a slight shade darker due to him wearing his large aviator sunglasses. He watched as the scenery outside gradually changed from strictly endless waves of tall green grass and trees to small buildings in the far distance and flat earth.
Across from him, Hajime sat silently, slouching in his seat as he clutched his large backpack to his chest to rest his chin atop it, his eyes shut as he slept quietly. A small smile came to Karatsugu's lips before he yawned, covering his mouth with the back of his hand whilst his other arm stretched up above his head. He let it fall down onto his lap lazily as he went back to staring out the window, his leg jumping up and down lightly as he inwardly became impatient.
It had been quite a while since he had last come to Akashika District; a year, to be exact. He still remembered the first time he had visited that place like it was only yesterday, as well as the interesting adventure he and his newfound brothers took part in. Karatsugu smiled fondly at the memory, wondering just what else they would be getting up to this time.
He was quickly snapped out of his daydreams as a voice spoke over the intercom, and although it sounded very fuzzy and full of static, he could just about make out what the voice said:
'We are now arriving at Akashika Station. This is the train's final stop. Please ensure you have all your items of belonging before leaving the train. We are now arriving at...'
The voice repeated itself several more times before it fell silent, and Karatsugu could feel the train begin to slow down. He carefully, and very cautiously, leaned forward to nudge Hajime's knee, attempting to rouse him from his nap.
"Hajime... You need to wake up now, we're here..." he mumbled, gently calling for his younger brother. He could feel a bead of sweat beginning to accumulate on his temple as Hajime didn't stir, prompting him to nudge a tad bit harder whilst also bearing in mind to not push his own luck, lest he want a fist to the face.
Thankfully, that didn't happen, and Hajime grumbled against his backpack as his eyes sluggishly cracked open. His dark gaze landed on Karatsugu for a moment before it wandered around the train compartment, shifting slightly in his seat and raising his head. He rubbed a hand against the back of his neck, wincing at the soreness from the awkward position he had fallen asleep in.
"... We're here?" he mumbled, barely audible over the ruckus of the train still moving against the tracks. Karatsugu nodded, taking his phone out of his pocket whilst Hajime stretched his arms. Karatsugu swiped through the group chat one of his brothers had created, skimming over his unread messages from hours ago to begin tapping away at his screen.

Satisfied with Ozo's response, Karatsugu put away his phone and stood up, reaching up to the overhang and carefully sliding his suitcase out and onto the floor. He also did the same for Hajime's suitcase, having a sneaking suspicion that the man wouldn't get it himself, but he wasn't bothered by it.
They waited for the train to pull to a stop, the metal wheels against the tracks squeaking and groaning loudly into the air. The voice over the intercom spoke again, signalling that all passengers were now allowed to leave.
So, with their suitcases in hand and their backpacks slung over their shoulders, the two brothers exited the train and stepped onto the same barren and quiet platform. The warm evening air pushed into their faces, the heat a lot tamer than it would be during the day. Hajime looked up towards the sky for a moment, witnessing the final shreds of sunlight melt away into the night as a dark blanket covered the sky.
"We should head outside," Karatsugu spoke up, his baritone voice echoing around the area, "they could be here any minute, now." He had already begun walking towards the exit, and after a few seconds, he heard his brother's footsteps shuffling along the concrete ground, following him from behind.
Karatsugu stepped out first, taking a deep breath of fresh air as a soft breeze picked up around him briefly before it died down. He smiled at the scenery, already feeling at home with his excitement growing by the second.
"Karamatsu-niisan."
The man screamed, jumping on the spot and tripping over his own feet as he tumbled to the ground, his mouth agape and sunglasses askew on his face, eyes darting around to see where that sudden voice came from, only to find a man standing to his right with a brown paper bag over his head and the roughly cut holes where his eyes should be dark and devoid of life.
Hajime stepped out next, taking one good look at Karatsugu on the ground and raising his brow before looking over to the paper bag man. He barely reacted, only giving a slight nod and saying:
"Long time no see, Jyushimatsu."
"Aha! Same here, Ichimatsu-niisan!" Jyushimatsu laughed, rocking back and forth on his heels giddily. Karatsugu, still on the ground, gradually collected himself and cupped his chin with this thumb and forefinger, smirking as if he hadn't just screamed like he had seen a ghost.
"Heh! Jyushimatsu! It has been some time since we last spoke in person!" Unsurprisingly, Karatsugu went ignored as the other headed towards a car that was parked a little further down the road, with the engine still running and the lights beaming down onto the gravelled path. Karatsugu only hummed amusedly, standing up and brushing himself off, making sure to readjust his glasses before grabbing his things and following behind them, listening in on their conversation.
"A lot of things have changed around here since you last visited, you know!" Jyushimatsu swung his arms back and forth as he walked, the smile in his voice heard through his words.
"Yeah? Like what?" Hajime readjusted his backpack on his shoulder, throwing a side glance towards Jyushimatsu. The paper bag man only giggled, his head now swaying side to side, as if nodding along to some unheard tune.
"Things!" Was all he said as they reached the car. The trio paused as the driver's door opened, and out clambered a grinning Ozo with a beer can in hand.
"Finally! I thought you guys were never gonna show up!" He complained, though there was no bite behind his words. Hajime shook his head as he watched Ozo take a large swig from his can.
"You couldn't wait until we got to that otaku's house to start drinking? I don't want to die because of your shitty driving..." he shuffled over to the car, opening the trunk and pushing his suitcase in there as Jyushimatsu sat in the back seats.
"I'm not a lightweight! I can handle more than one can, y'know!" Ozo sat back down in his seat, and Karatsugu also went over to place his suitcase in the trunk before closing it. Hajime sat in the back with Jyushimatsu, leaving the passenger seat up front available. Once they were all settled in the car, Ozo manoeuvred the car out of its parked position and back onto the road.
"Let's chuck your stuff at that guy's place, and then we can go drinking!" Ozo cheered, Jyushimatsu matching his excitement. Karatsugu couldn't help but laugh, and even Hajime couldn't control the small smirk that crept its way onto his face, which he quickly hid behind his backpack.
It was nice to be back.

You sighed softly as you wiped down the bar top with the slightly damp cloth in your palm. Glancing at the small clock on the wall behind you, you took note of how it had been just over an hour since your shift at Bang Bang Chicken Bar had started and, as per usual, barely anyone had entered the bar. There was that one regular customer who had already came and went — a man with very large front teeth who asked for the same drink every other night, attempted to flirt with you, then would leave with the promise of coming back as a rich French man... whatever that means.
Another sigh escaped you. It was now just past nine o'clock, and you had a strong feeling that the hours were going to slip by a lot slower than you would like. That, and coupled with the fact that you would be the only one working at the bar at this hour (aside from your boss, who would be cooped up in his office until early hours of the morning), you knew it would be yet another boring night ahead.
Well, maybe not entirely boring.
The sound of drums suddenly filled the silence in the bar, which was soon followed by the sound of heavy strums of electric guitars and keyboards. A woman's voice began belting lyrics into the microphone. You watched the band, Killer Fish, perform on the raised platform in the centre of the room, the seven women on stage lost in their own world of death metal music as their heads nodded along violently to the beat.
When you had first started working at Bang Bang Chicken Bar — an obscure bar at the end of a long, winding and empty road on the outskirts of Akatsuka Village — you did not expect the seven quiet and well-dressed women on the stage to start singing death metal. It scared you half to death the first time you heard the screech of guitar strings echoing through the desolate bar. Even the lead singer, Totoko, dressed in a formal Japanese yukata with her hair styled up in an old-fashioned bun, her face stoic and serious, shocked you with her booming voice and scratchy vocals of a true death metal singer.
It was all so unexpected, and the tremors of the music had left you slightly shaky once the first performance was over. Now, though, you had become used to the music, and although it wasn't your preferred choice of music, you began to enjoy the performances. It made the whole bar feel so much more alive.
By the time you snapped out of your thoughts, the performance was over and the group was setting themselves up for another song. You, with nothing better to do, decided you would turn to the shelves stacked with all kinds of alcoholic drinks behind you and sort through them again, making sure they were presented with their labels faced towards the patrons and that they were organised neatly, despite the fact that you had already done this. Three times.
Whilst you mindlessly traced your fingers along the glass bottles, the music started up again, drowning out the sound of the door to the bar opening.
In walked six men, each dressed in black suits, and each of them boisterous and excited to begin their night of drinking. They awed at the group on stage for a moment before one of them took charge and pushed them over to an empty table in the middle of the room. They took their seats and began conversing with each other, laughing at some joke someone made or at another's crazy antics.
Eventually, two of them stood up from their seats, one seemingly more casual with his hands tucked into his pockets whilst the other, donning a black yukata, seemed more uptight with an annoyed frown pressed onto his upturned lips. The two began making their way over to the bar, where you were stood with your back still turned, oblivious of what was happening behind you until your ears picked up the sound of two men conversing.
You tilted your head slightly, squinting your eyes as if it would help with figuring out whether you were hearing things or not, but as the voices grew closer, your eyes widened as you realised no, this wasn't your imagination, and there were actually other customers in the bar.
Turning on your heel, you physically felt your brain fizzle and pop like an old lightbulb at the sight of the two men coming closer towards you, their faces still fresh in your mind from the first time you had encountered them on separate occasions.
"Come on, Chorosuke! You're loaded! A couple of drinks with your money won't hurt anyone!" It was that taxi driver from the other day who was talking, that same sleazy grin displayed proudly on his face as he poked fun at the man next time him; that man from the store who had given you that watermelon, which actually was sweet.
"You and I both know you won't be having 'a couple of drinks!' And you have your own money! Pay for yourself!" He shouted over the music, his eyes narrowing in frustration as he knew all too well that he would inevitably be paying for the drinks. You could only stand in silence as they grew closer and closer, neither of them truly paying attention to your presence as they continued to bicker back and forth until they were stood right in front of you.
Ozo turned to you first, his mouth opening to make his request until his half-lidded eyes locked onto your face. He frowned for a split-second before his eyes widened, the smirk on his lips stretching into an excited grin as he instantly recognised you. Chorosuke, confused by his brother's odd reaction, turned to you as well, only for his expression to fall into a look of horror, his pale cheeks flushing a bright crimson.
"It's you!" They exclaimed together, their tones completely opposite to one another. Pausing, they whipped their heads to look at each other confusedly. "Wait, what?" they questioned in unison.
"How do you know her?" Chorosuke quickly demanded, his eyes flitting between your nervous form and the man beside him.
"I told you, I met a pretty girl yesterday!" Ozo reminded him, "And what about you?"
"I-I, well... We bumped into each other at the market the other day..." Chorosuke's voice trailed off, secretly hoping you would remember him so that he wouldn't be humiliated in front of the one man who wouldn't let something like this go. Lucky for him, you did remember. You remembered that interaction all too well.
"Really?! Wow! Small world, right?" Ozo turned to you, leaning against the bar top with one arm as he gave you a quick once over, a flirtatious look in his eyes that only served to make you shrink into yourself. "Do you remember me? I dropped you off yesterday! Man, if I knew you worked here, I would come by more often!"
They seemed to be waiting for some kind of reaction from you, so you took a minute step back from the countertop and chuckled nervously, an odd smile on your face that probably didn't look like a smile at all.
"Aha... Yeah! Hi... again..."
This was going to be a long, long night.

Chapter 9: Double Dates, Donuts, Drinks, and Doubts - JJ Maybank x Reader
Photo cred: I made the aesthetic but if you own any of these images I will take them down per your request.
Warnings: swearing (a recurring theme), if I missed anything potentially triggering PLEASE let me know.
Words: 1893
Previously in part 8: JJ is slowly becoming more affectionate. To throw the Pogues off your scent of course! He’s keeps cool as a cucumber when Mr. Osborn starts grilling the hell out of you two, but how he stays calm under the pressure of carrying a secret hero identity is beyond you. Before Osborn can get any more hits in, Sarah comes to the rescue with her yearbook privileges, and another boring class period becomes a party when the rest of the Pogues slowly ditch class too.
A/N: I’M BACK BABY! Here with a cute chapter because shit hasn’t gone down yet but don’t worry, it will <3.
JJ’s teasing didn’t end throughout all of lunch. In fact he’s just now let up as the six of us are all walking to Ozzy’s for afternoon pancakes. I’m not complaining because A) it was fun and B) we were kinda flirting? It isn’t real, he’s not actually flirting with me he’s just... playing the part. Playing the part very well.
“-double date.”
“Huh?” I ask zoning back in. Sarah and John B are both looking between me and JJ expectantly.
“They’re asking where we should go on our double date,” JJ explains and slings his left arm across my shoulders.
“Oh, yeah, well, we haven’t exactly been on a date alone yet…” I trail off the end of my sentence when I notice the beaded leather bracelet on his wrist is about to fall off. They begin talking about the date again, but I’ve tuned them out as I focus on retying JJ’s bracelet.
“...but the more the merrier, right?” I tense up at his question as JJ has leaned down to ask only me. All I can muster is a gentle nod which makes him smile extra wide for some reason.
“You dork,” JJ says before opening the door for me to enter the diner. Jennifer isn’t here but we’re also not here at our usual evening time, so I’m not surprised.
Coming back to my senses, I’m now following the conversation in front of me, which consists of Sarah and John B bickering.
“What’s wrong with dinner and a movie?”
“Nothing’s wrong with dinner and a movie I’m just saying we could do something else that’s more fun.”
“Like what?”
“We could do the boardwalk.”
“We’ve already done the boardwalk this season, why do you get to choose what we do?”
“Because it was my idea in the first place.”
“No, it wasn’t.”
“Yes, it wa-”
“Oh my god, shut up, no one cares!” JJ interrupts their back and forth abruptly. “We can do the boardwalk AND a movie, it’s not like we only have one night together!”
As the couple realizes he’s right and begins to talk about what movies we could go and see, I notice Kie is being way awkward. She’s not the loudest of the group, she’s on the quieter side in general, but never awkward.
Before any of us can process what’s happening, Pope is standing on our table in the middle of a public restaurant.
He distantly speaks as he pulls a red rose from his backpack, “Kiara Carrera…”
“Where the fuck did that come from?” JJ vocalizes what we were all thinking, as per usual.
“...Will you be my date to winter formal?” I feel like a physical manifestation of the eye-mouth-eye emoji chain, unable to process Pope of all people asking Kie to formal on a table in Ozzy’s.
John B, Sarah, JJ, and I all snap our heads toward Kie to see her reaction. She doesn’t look nearly as shook as we do. She’s beaming. I mean just the most radiant smile I have ever seen her smile.
“Yes!” She stands from her seat, elated. Pope hops off of the table to stand face to face with her, and hands her the red rose.
Pope’s face breaks out into a smile to match her energy level, and the two of them high five. Their shared excitement comes down and as they take their seats once more, the rest of the pogues all share the same look of confusion.
No one will say it, but I can tell we’re all just thinking ‘what the fuck was that?’; the awkward silence ensues. Then, social-butterfly Sarah breaks the silence when her curiosity consumes her,
“Are we still going to formal as a group?”
“Of course, why wouldn’t we?” I ask, subconsciously tilting my head out of confusion.
“Because, you and JJ are dating now, and Pope and kie I guess are a date now…”
“Oh… I mean, we always go as a group.”
“Now we can triple date!” JJ adds.

BZZZ. The vibrations of my phone pull me out of a well earned sleep. After afternoon pancakes, we all went our separate ways meaning I needed to grind on importing the JJ footage I needed to piece together. I nearly fell asleep on my desk, but seeing as I’m buried under the covers, I managed to get myself to bed eventually.
I roll over to turn my phone on do not disturb, and groan as the brightness blinds me. Note to self: choose a lockscreen with a dark color palette.
Messages from Gnomeo 💙: wake up fucker
This better be important.
Juliet ❤️: It’s 5 am on a saturday what the fuck do you want from me
Gnomeo 💙: were hanging out ya batch
Juliet ❤️: right now right now?
Gnomeo 💙: yes ma’am
Juliet ❤️: Do I have to wear normal clothes?
Gnomeo 💙: nah jus dont forget a bra this time
Asshole. I figure we’ll hang out for more than an hour, so I decide to look semi presentable.
Grabbing my favorite comfy clothes, I go to the bathroom to wash my face and hope it’ll wake me up a bit more. I’m too exhausted to fully brush my teeth so I brush for about 30 seconds before giving up. Good enough.
“Fuck,” I gasp when I walk back into my room. JJ’s already inside and sitting on my windowsill.
“Why can’t you use the front door like a normal person?”
“Your neighbors are scary, Y/n. I feel like I’m gonna get killed by Mrs. Aldony and her cat,” JJ whines and then sniffles a bit. His face is tinged pink which makes me wonder how cold it is outside; I take a moment to admire the blush across his face. He looks sort of angelic, cherubic, minus the backwards baseball hat, black long sleeve salty crew shirt, and a single strand of greasy blonde hair poking out of his hat.
“Ready for some immersion therapy?” “I beg your pardon?”
“We’re going back on the roof,” he clarifies.
“Oh ok.” JJ extends his hand to me which I willingly take. I don’t need help out of my own window, but the extra contact won’t hurt. Together, we climb the metal stairs up toward the rooftop. There’s always people out and about but the ambient noise gives off a serenity that ceased to exist when we were being chased by the Green fucking Goblin.
“JJ, what is this?” I ask once we’ve reached the top of the stairs. In the corner, there’s a grey blanket decorated with two drinks, a dozen donuts, and a flower that I can see he clearly stole from Mrs. Aldony’s garden patch.
“I was thinking about how to repay you for taking care of me the other night.” I turn back around to look at him, and now I understand why he was so flushed downstairs. He takes my hand once again and leads me to the blanket. The sun has just barely begun to rise and I don’t waste another minute.
“Can you hold the flower?” I ask, pulling my phone out. This is the perfect new ‘dark color palette’ lockscreen I needed. “Cute,” I declare the picture.
Turning it off, I toss it back down onto the blanket and just take in the sight of JJ in front of me. He’s fidgeting and beaming at the fact that I’m impressed.
“Have you watched Midnight Gospel yet?”
“No, I’ve been on neighborhood patrol every night.”
“Oh yeah, my bad,” I laugh before telling him all about the show. “Well, it started as a podcast and then the dude was like wait I’ll just animate it. So it’s this one character who can visit a variety of worlds and realities, and he’s having these pretty profound conversations with his guests about religion and relationship dynamics, but the catch is the characters have these ordinary conversations in extraordinary situations. Like, the first episode they’re fighting in a zombie apocalypse and… what?” I cut myself off to ask.
“Nothing.”
“What is it? Tell me!”
“You’re cute when you tell me about the shows you like or the latest movie you watched.”
I suppress a smile, “Oh.”
“So, it’s a tv show?”
“Sort of, it’s a Netflix show but it only has one season.”
JJ attentively keeps asking questions and I continue to tell him about the show and other series I've been watching.
“So, why are we up at 6?”
“I have Saturday school.”
“I see.”
“Yeah…”
“You know we could’ve just gotten dinner or something,” I can see the realization flood JJ’s eyes which causes me to burst out in laughter.
“...We can do that too…” he offers.
“Oh! Even better! Movie night! Get all the pogues over and we can watch every episode of midnight gospel together!”
“Hey, it’s your world, I’m just living in it,” he shrugs and takes an unnecessarily large bite of a chocolate covered donut.
“Saturday school’s over at like 12 right? What are you doing with the rest of your day?”
Before he can answer, JJ’s phone vibrates. He’s dropped it in water twice, so now the vibration is way louder than normal. He reads the message and quickly clears it from his screen.
“Hey, so I was thinkin’...” he says looking back up from his phone. “Since we’re boyfriend and girlfriend now, we should go on dates. You know, to practice being a couple so we can really sell it to the pogues.”
“Sure. It’ would help sell the relationship,” I agree.
“Yeah…” I’ve been talking the whole time, I just noticed I haven’t had any of my drink.
“You remembered my drink order,” I say, screaming internally.
“I’d be a really shitty boyfriend if I didn’t remember,” he shrugs off the gesture, and then hums tiredly. “I should get going.”
I pick up my phone to look at the time. 7:17.
“You’re gonna be late.”
“It’s cool.”
__________________________
“What are you doing up? It’s 10 AM on a Saturday,” I hear from my doorway. Mom is standing in my open threshold, somewhat stunned.
“JJ brought me breakfast before he had to go to Saturday school and I just decided to stay up. How was work?”
“Are you two a thing yet?” she asks, ignoring my question.
“What?”
“You and JJ, have you gone on a date yet?” Am I ready to have this conversation with my mom? Or myself for that matter?
“Mom, no. It’s not like that we’re just… bros…?”
“Okay.”
“Why do you say it like that?” I respond, spinning around in my desk chair to give her my full attention.
“Because the way JJ looks at you is more than just bros.” Oh.
“Well... we’re pretending to date in front of the pogues because…” will JJ be safe if I tell mom about the Spiderman thing? What if Goblin bugged my room? I can’t chance it. “Because we just thought it would be funny. And speaking of, the pogues are coming over for movie night if that’s okay?” I plead, hoping she can’t tell I’m lying. Thankfully, she drops it.
“Yeah, my shift starts at 5 so I’ll be out of your hair before then. Do you guys want to order in? I can leave some cash?”
“No it’s okay, I can find something here.”

A/N: Sorry this took so long I joined tiktok and became a raging lesbian so that’s been taking up most of my free time. Also, school is about to start but based on how much work I have, I’ll probably be able to upload during the school year if all goes well.

rinharu or kisuharu space AU? ;3;
I ... I ended up .... wanting both.
- TechNerd!Haruka again, because I can, and because I think you enjoyed that.
- So he gets hired for a voyage newbies-KisuRin are assigned to. They’re best friends with similar dreams; Rin to be involved with or running a voyage for research on the kind of phenomena that resulted in the disappearance/death of his father, and Kisumi to take after his mother by captaining voyages of his own, wherever his heart takes him.
- When they first meet Haruka, Rin’s appalled and Kisumi’s intrigued by his scruffy state of dress and clear lack of respect for superiors. They have a split second to wonder how the hell this guy got hired before they learn that the system they’ve gotta learn how to operate? Yeah, hand-designed by him. Maybe he’s not too shabby after all.
- Slowly but surely, the two of them start to become suspicious of the intentions behind the voyage they’re on. They’re supposed to be researching, but the captain seems like more of a figurehead than anything, and those supporting him seem more than a little sketchy. Cue them both enlisting Haruka for help on figuring out exactly what’s going on; at first he’s hesitant, but when he realizes there’s a chance his own system, his baby, is likely being used for something he doesn’t approve of? Doesn’t result in a happy Haru.
- Haruka kisses Kisumi first, probably just because he won’t stop fucking talking and it was the first thing he thought of that would do the trick. Kisumi is successfully stunned into silence for a handful of minutes, which is handy because they’re in the middle of snooping on a private meeting. Though it leaves Haruka to do all the work setting up the bug; Rin’s left with doing most of the listening hidden away in a room on the other side of the ship since Kisumi’s down for the count. (Although he does spend a good twenty seconds or so wondering what’s got Kisumi so quiet all of a sudden.) When he kisses Rin, it’s in front of Kisumi, on purpose. Neither of them have any idea how to react until Haruka looks at them both, meaningfully, and then it clicks. Rin gets his private kiss later on, after giving Haruka his life story or something else as ridiculously romantic as that.
(- Imagining best friends!KisuRin being thrown into a threesome with the guy they’re both enamored with is fucking hilarious please imagine it with me. I bet Haru likes to watch them make out, because. Pretty.
- Basically this story is military-ish (??) KisuRin teaming up with badass techie Haruka on a mission to take down an evil space voyage. It is full of tropes and I am trash. You can fill in all the dramatic parts, I assume~
- “Am I making the right decision by turning on the leading team behind this mission” discourse going on inside Rin’s head. Because he’s waited his whole life for this, hello. Exploding at one point, Kisumi and Haru talking him down.
- At one point Haruka programs the ship to respond to certain commands, but only to his voice. This comes handy in battle scenes---Haru’s alright with hand-to-hand combat, but he likes giving his software commands and watching it take out guys for him. Also, it’s kickass. Meanwhile Kisumi’s darting all over the place, tricking foes into taking each other out, and Rin’s probably got four damn guns out at the same time because he’ll go to an early grave before he does anything halfway.
- Did I mention Kisumi and Rin in uniform. whistles
- Also please imagine them in future voyages together after this mess, all domestic and shit. Rin bugging Haru to fix whatever bug is currently bothering him. The bugs are on purpose. Kisumi helping Haru make the bugs, then turning against him when Rin wants revenge. Space OT3 idiots in general.
#HOPE YOU'RE OKAY WITH OT3#ilu#i really couldn't decide omg#the more the merrier??? (eyes emoji)#kisuharurin#free!#brickerbeetle#thank you for sending love <3

Henry Cavill x OC Lisa - multi-chapter fic

Word count: 4.706
Disclaimer: angst, sadness, fluff, party drugs

< Go back to part 6
November 1st. I held the paper calendar in my hand, looking at a picture of the Witcher crew from past year. Everyone happily gathered around a large buffet celebrating Thanksgiving. It did not take long to spot Henry on the far right, looking overly excited, his arms raised in joy while looking straight at the camera. Not surprising, since he was a foodie for sure. The more food, the merrier the Henry. My finger traced his over excited face as I let out a sigh, folding back the previous month and hanging the calendar back on our office wall.
It had been exactly 3 weeks since I last saw him and I hated every single day of it. Not only had it been crazy busy at work now production was nearing its end (the time pressure to finish the season was on and the press tour had started), it was also hard to find the mental peace and quiet to keep contact with each other. A few minute calls here and there is all we could manage in between our tight schedules. Not enough to really, really talk. And I fully understood that this was just what it would be like sometimes, when dating Henry. It would mean I would have to miss him. Having to miss him, a lot.
I sighed again while plopping down on my chair, brushing my fingers through Kal’s thick fur. He was too fast asleep to even care, yet I was glad to have him there. Henry had left him with me, since it was more peaceful for Kal to not have to travel everyday. Besides, it was good for me to have something so dear to Henry near me at all times. In these three weeks Kal and I had become best buddies, for sure. We found a rhythm of him sleeping next to my side of the bed, waking up with morning cuddles, going for a walk, then eat breakfast together. Next we’d take a cab to work, and he’d be sticking to his side by my feet (at my desk or on set) until we’d get back home again, followed by his big walk, dinner, some working out or reading and.. back to bed. Rinse and repeat.
I sent a picture of Kal sleeping at my feet to Henry, followed by a heart emoji. The message didn’t come through. He probably had bad cell reception again. ‘HEEYyy, I was thinking.’ My colleague awoke me from my intense phone-screen-staring. I looked up. ‘Hmm?’ I said. ‘You know. It’s Friday. We’re off tomorrow. How ‘bout we go out for some drinks. Just a..girls night out?’ My colleague pouted her lips in a pleading look. I laughed half-arsed. ‘Ange, I don’t know..I’m quite..tired actually.’ ‘Oh come on! You sound like an old hag. Besides, Henry’s in Asia now, so he’ll be sleeping by the time you get off. Let’s just have ONE drink. Come on!’ Ange, or Angelica as her full name goes, nodded her head excitedly, in hope that her bobbing head would convince me to also nod in agreement. I looked back at my laptop screen, noticing another 532 unread emails, realising there was no winning any of these fights. Be it working all night, or going for that one drink. ‘Alright then.’ I nodded, shrugging in defeat. ‘GREAAAT. Oh my god I found this great bar that just opened. Such great cocktails. And there’s this..’ She rattled on, making me realise I sure had turned into a bit of a homebird over the past year. In previous years I wouldn’t have hesitated about going out whenever someone suggested it. No matter how busy the workweek, I would always love myself some dancing and sipping on half decent wine. Perhaps it’d be a good thing to go for a night out on the town.
—
Ange came to pick me up at my hotel room. We were just two floors apart, but it was still a sweet gesture. I opened the door, finding her standing there in some very slinky deep blue minidress and dark eye make-up, her waist-long dark hair falling sleekly around her curvy figure. ‘Well, hello minxy.’ I laughed, letting her in. I almost felt underdressed in my simple midi-length black dress with halter neck. She smiled a cheeky grin, then in turn looked me up and down. ‘You don’t look so bad yourself girl.’ She purred, immediately striding towards my small fridge. ’Help yourself.’ I said, already knowing full well she was about to pour us some generous glasses of wine. She came back pressing a glass of rosé in my hands, then plopped down on the small sofa. ‘You know. Perhaps it’s better. Not having any men around. Then we can have some..real..fun!’ She raised up her glass in cheers. I joined her in the sitting corner, sitting down on a small pouf and clinked glasses with her. ‘Do you really feel you can have no fun with men around?’ I asked, sniffling, before taking a large sip of wine.
‘Naaa.. They always have a motive. Double intentions. Blaa.’ She stuck out her tongue before also taking a large swig of the wine. ‘So. Are you still dating that Joseph guy?’ I asked, looking at her as she pulled down her obnoxiously short hemline that kept creeping up. She smiled. ‘I think me and Joseph are…done..for now. Maybe for the odd bit of fun. But he just REALLY wasn’t my type.’ ‘And what is your type then..?’ ‘Oh don’t bother. No men tonight! Just us, ladies, wanting to have a good time, okay?’ She clinked her glass against mine again, stretching out her long neck while smiling a victorious smile. And honestly, I hoped that would be true. The way I knew Ange, there was very little chance she would not, at some point during the night, get desperate for some attention. Attention she’d eventually seek from some tall dark stranger with just the same double intentions. It’d be just another Joseph guy. Another guy who’d disappoint her, pushing her to the point she’d become even more desperate and insecure.
‘Yea..let’s just have some fun.’ I winked, pushing away those thoughts and taking another sip of wine while seeing she had already nearly finished her glass.
—
The club Ange had chosen was, well, interesting. It was Berlinesque in mood. Dark, neon-lit and gritty with lots of bare concrete and sinister looking hipster folk afoot. The music was great though. Deep bass tones that tore through your whole body like a heartbeat, strumming melodies that made your hips shake and balkan-esque folk tunes were thrown in the mix for good measure. We ordered two dark and stormies and wandered to a corner of the club, casually dancing and giggling at some of the other party goers that were obviously a bit further in their drinks. It felt a bit like that matrix club scene, the lights glimmering a green hue over the sweaty, almost gimpy dressed people.
‘This place feels like a movie set of its own.’ I laughed in her ear. She nodded, sipping her drink, laughing beguilingly. ‘Lots of famous people come here.’ She returned, having to lean into me to make herself heard over the loud beats. ‘Haa..’ I said, looking around me to see if I recognised anyone. No familiar faces. I shrugged. ‘Guess not tonight.’ She took another large swig of her drink, twirling around in happiness. ‘I love this music. I love this!’ She exclaimed, almost pouring some of her drink on the floor while raising her arms. I laughed, following her while she moved onto the dance floor.
We squeezed our bodies through the dancing crowd. The bouncing, sultry bodies around me made me drink with great haste, not wanting to spill any of it on the floor. ‘Another?’ Ange gestured, holding up her not-yet-finished drink. I shrugged. ‘Let me get this round.’ I said, winking at her. She nodded, immediately turning her attention to a handsome man standing next to her. Oh gods. It has already started, I thought, quickly forcing my way to the bar, in order to get back to her as quickly as possible. The bar tender however was more then a little occupied. I leaned against the sticky edge of the bar, looking at the cocktail list hanging on the far back wall.
‘Hello there sugar.’ A deep voice rumbled in my ear. I looked around. A man that could best be described as a balkan viking was leaning into me, smirking a devilish smile. Slightly tanned skin, a beard and brushed back hair that fell over a crisp white shirt. I squinted my eyes at him, deciding what action best to take. ‘You know, you’re cute and all, but.. I’m not interested.’ I said, turning my attention back to the board with chalked-on cocktail names. ‘And you know, you shouldn’t be so mean to me.’ He said, leaning even closer. ‘..Or you might just get set-up..’ His body pushed further into me as his hand painfully wrapped around my neck as he pushed his bearded lips against mine. I instinctively tried to pull away, but before I could even think of such a thing, I saw a large flash. FUCK. NO. FUCK this shit. Photograph. Fuck. I didn’t quite know what to do once he let me go, my cheek already sore from his painful grasp. I gasped, looking from the filthy viking, back to his photographing accomplice. ‘What is wrong with you?!’ I scolded, my voice slightly trembling. The viking man crossed his arms. ‘Oh sugar, no worries. I have a DEAL for you.’
My eyes quickly moved towards the bar tender. He hadn’t seen a thing. To the door man in the far back. Too far away. Fuck. Then I turned around, looking for Ange. And… There was no Ange. Oh no, shit, fuck, no. I quickly grasped for my phone, texting Ange, keeping half an eye on the two smirking idiots in front of me. ‘Where you at?’ I texted. She didn’t respond. No, no, no… My eyes flashed back at the two men, still grinning menacingly, slowly leaning closer towards me. I felt myself almost pant with worry. It couldn’t be this bad right? I was just overreacting. This was nothing. These idiots were just drunk. And Ange probably just went to the toilet. The toilets. I let my gaze fly over my shoulder to the bathroom sign. I turned back towards the men. ‘You know what. I’ll hear your deal in a bit, I really have to go to the toilet. If you’ll excuse me.’ I quickly squeezed myself through a group of drunk men whom were trying to order some beers to get out of the reach of the viking and his henchman, hastily making my way to the toilets. Thankfully there was no queing line.
‘Ange? You here?!’ I exclaimed, offering an apologetic look at some of the girls who gave me a begrudging look while they plastered on some more make-up. No Ange. Dammit. I grasped my phone again. She still hadn’t responded. I looked under the bathroom stalls, seeing if I recognised her feet. Nope. Shit. Dammit! I quickly made my way back to the dance floor, only then recognising her in the crowd. She was surrounded by a whole pack of men. Oh come on Ange, not cool. I squeezed myself in between the men, grasping her arm. She turned around, a wide, slow grin on her face. ‘What?’ She said slightly annoyed. I noticed her eyes were a bit strange, unfocussed. I looked her in the eye. ‘Did you …take drugs?’ I asked, raising my eyebrows. She slurrily laughed. ‘WhaAAATT?!’ She exclaimed, thinking it funny. ‘What what what what…’ She lulled.
‘Ange.’ I folded my hands around her cheeks, trying to make her look at me. ‘We need..to go.. okay?’ Her eyes glazed over as she fell over forwards into my arms. I looked at the men around us. They did not seem to care, they just kept laughing. And it was only now that I noticed how they were touching her, groping her actually. One of their hands firmly squeezing her ass. I gasped. What the ..fuck..was going on. I shot the men a most menacing look as I dragged a half-conscious Ange to a more quiet corner of the club, out of their grasp. Thankfully they didn’t follow.
She was surprisingly heavy as she leaned into me. ‘Whaat….’ She mumbled once more, having difficulty even looking at me. Did someone lace her drink? She surely couldn’t get drunk like this, this fast, right? I desperately pinned her against my body, leaning against the wall for support, then flipped out my phone again. Uber. No rides available at this moment. Oh. Come on. What was this place even. Google. The page kept reloading while I tried to look for a local taxi company. My eyes desperately flew across the room, interlocking with the luring looks of the viking and his accomplice again. I felt tears burn behind my eyes. Okey. I couldn’t fix everything, I guess. But I had to get Ange out of here. Yes. With all my might I dragged her wobbling, half asleep body through the sweating mass of dancing bodies. It seemed like nobody noticed us. Nobody voluntarily moved and it felt like hours before I finally had managed to coach us back to the entrance. I picked up our jackets and after what seemed like days, we got back outside.
The night was freezing cold and gloomy, the stars veiled by thick grey clouds while the occasional gush of rain drops blew in our faces. Ange had fallen asleep by now. A drug induced, hopefully not too uncomfortable, sleep. She was breathing steadily against my chest as we sat on a bench near a bus stop. It’d be another 45 minutes before the next night line bus would stop here, but it was all I could figure out at this point and time. I shivered into my jacket as I squeezed Ange tightly against me, making sure she continued to breath by keeping my left hand on her pulse. With my right hand I opened my phone again. 2.15 am. It wasn’t even that ridiculously late, but it sure felt like it. What time would it be for Henry? 6 hours later. That means… He might be up. Should I text him? I hesitated, opening Whatsapp and noticing I wasn’t the only one thinking that.
Henry is typing…
Morning dear. You’re probably sleeping right now. But look at this *a picture of a large breakfast he had made himself* Made me and my team some breakfast, thought you’d be proud of me ;) I miss you, i miss your cooking, i miss being with you. Give Kal a good hug from me and enjoy your Saturday <3
My lip started to tremble and I felt my eyes sting as long overdue tears started rolling hotly over my ice cold cheeks.
I miss you too :( so so much. :( :( :(
I sent back with half frozen hands.
Can’t sleep?
He responded. I snickered sadly, realising it’d be weird for me to respond so soon, in the middle of the night.
Actually having a seriously messed up night :/
I typed, hesitating to send it. I looked back at Ange and tried to figure what was best. Not tell him? It’s not like he could do anything about it, other then get worried sick. I knew he’d do that. I knew he’d get fed up and feel bad all day. I sighed, deleting the message again. I looked at my screen, thinking of what to type.
You okay babe?
He typed. I instantly felt more tears billow over my cheeks. Oh how I missed him. He had seen me type, then remove it again. Best just come clean. He was no fool. No secrets. I had to tell him.
Having a messed up night. Was going out for drinks with Ange at a club. No fun though. Some idiot laced her drink. Another idiot forced himself upon me :( going home now.
I pressed send and it took about a millisecond before he called me. I answered.
‘Sweetheart..’ I heard his low voice, alongside his footsteps on a stone floor as he probably moved away from his crew whom were now munching away on that breakfast. A door closing. I felt my lips tremble, and decided to just, wait a moment. ‘Sweetheart are you okay?’ He continued. I shook my head no, my lip trembling even more fiercely. ‘..It’ll be okay…’ I said quietly, feeling more tears well up. He could hear me cry. I could hear him choke up in turn. Had he ever even seen me cry? I don’t think he did. At best I’ve had a grumpy day when he was around. No crying though. I felt even more guilty. ‘Are you safe?’ He finally said, his voice laced with worry. ‘I’m safe. Just waiting for the bus.’ ‘Tell me what happened. Is Ange with you? Are there people with you?’ His words tumbled out, making me feel how confused and worried he was. I felt so bad for even telling him. Poor Henry…
‘I’m sorry for crying. Don’t worry. I am safe.’ I sniffled softly, taking another shivery breath. ‘..And Ange is with me, asleep. There’s a few people sitting near us. The bus should be here in a little while.’ I muttered. ‘Don’t be sorry sweetie. Oh..’ I could hear his mind race from the other side of the line. I could hear that door crack open again as someone called for him. ‘I’m sorry guys, can’t join..please.’ His voice sounded tight. The door closed. I could hear him breath out, making me imagine how he’d probably be standing in the hall of his temporary apartment, hesitating at what to say, the phone lingering in his hand. ‘Henry?’ I asked. ‘Yes baby.’ He immediately answered. ‘I’m a big girl. I can handle myself. Please don’t beat yourself up on this.’ I said, trying to keep my voice level. The tears had faded by now, and I was glad I didn’t have to look into those big blue eyes of his. Those surely would have cracked the roaring storm of emotions right open again. We were both quiet for a moment. Until I finally realised what was happening. He was crying. I could hear his muffled cry on the other side of the phone. Oh..no…sweet bear..
My eyebrows knitted together as my eyes drifted to some of the other drunk folk that were leaning on the pavement, waiting for the bus as well. They were not even remotely interested in my call, instead swigging down some more booze from a small drinking container. I drew in a deep breath. ‘Hey bear.’ I said gently, a silent tear rolling down my cheek. ‘Remember the day we met? ..that very humid, sweaty morning in the LA hills? Hmm..I was very much used to being alone then. Solving my own shit. But I guess that changed once I heard Kal panting in those bushes. It all changed when I rang that phone number on his tag. It all changed when I met… you.’ I spoke quietly, reminiscing that moment. I heard him break into even more tears. ‘Henry.’ I continued, ‘I knew that no matter how hard we’d try, we’d sometimes be apart. And it’s hard. And it sucks..’
‘…I miss you so much.’ He finally breathed into the phone, his voice shaky and fragile. ‘I miss you too.’ I said, looking down at Ange as she was quietly sleeping against my chest. I took another deep breath as I heard his breathing also calm a bit. Dear Henry…I thought. Then I heard that darn door open again. ‘You alright mate?’ A voice sounded. More silence, then the door closing again. ‘Please forgive me.’ He finally uttered, quietly. ‘What?’ I asked, not sure what he meant. ‘Forgive me.’ He whispered. ‘What should I forgive you for?’ My voice felt empty. ‘That I make you go through all this. That we have to be apart because of my..work….’ He drew a deep breath. ‘..Fuck this shit..’ He ended quietly. ‘Henry. Bear. That is life. There is naught to forgive. Please bear. I love you. Please hold on.’ I felt shivers run down my spine. Was this how we’d end? The thing that would break us apart? More tears started to well up in my eyes as I heard him cry through the phone. I couldn’t manage any more words, my lip trembling from both the icy cold and my emotions. We were both quiet for a long moment, the only sounds reaching my ears being the draws of shivery breaths as his crying tempered down. My heart was bursting with pain and fear. Please, don’t break up with me. Please please please.
’Never.’ I heard his voice. ‘What?’ I stammered. ‘I would never break up with you.’ He said, his voice more clear then it had been this whole phone call. I realised, belatedly, that I had spoken my thoughts out loud. I closed my eyes. In a way I felt a bit more at ease, but I also felt so very helpless. I wanted to hug him, kiss away his tears, crawl away in his strong arms. I took another shivery breath. His crying had stopped, I think, as his breathing sounded more calm. ‘Babe..’ He started, hesitating. ‘Henry?’ My heartbeat rushed in my chest. ‘..thank you for telling me. Thank you for trusting me.’ His voice sounded calm and honest. ‘Why..but..of course I trust you..’ Why would he say that? ‘I’ve gotten so used to people hiding their issues from me, because they’re scared it’s too much for me. I care about you. I want to know what’s going on in your life, in your head. I really do.’ He spoke gently. I sucked in a deep breath, a bit overcome with those words. With exes I had often hidden away my feelings and not spoken of my experiences, because I felt embarrassed or simply that it wasn’t a good moment. In the end there barely ever was a good moment and I distanced myself from them until I was more of a mom to them, then a girlfriend. Henry’s words struck a cord I didn’t even know was strung so tightly in my chest. It had snapped, just like that.
‘You still there?’ He asked. ‘Yea. Uh. Sorry. I guess I’ve never had someone say that to me before…hmm.’ I smiled meekly. ‘You are the best boyfriend I’ve ever had I think.’ I said, feeling little pangs of joy in my stomach as I heard him chuckle softly. ‘And you..by far the best girlfriend. I don’t want to lose you dear. Please know that…’ His voice swam in my head as my attention was drawn to a bus pulling up to the bus stop. ‘Hen..bear..I’ve got to go. The bus is here. Love you.’ I hung up the phone, awkwardly pushing it back in my pocket before hoisting up Ange, who was still very much knocked out.
At the hotel I hadn’t even bothered to get Ange to her room, instead plopping her on my bed and falling almost instantly asleep besides her, clothed and all. It was about 8 am when I was awakened by an irregularly buzzing phone next to my head. I drowsily looked up, noticing a whole bunch of messages that were popping up. I sat up, seeing Ange had turned on her side, still sleeping. I opened the messages. Long story short. Tickets. He had managed to get me off the schedule for some meetings I’d be having this week and gotten me plane tickets to a few of the next destinations he’d be flying to. Followed with the text. ‘I thought you could maybe answer all those emails in an airplane too?’ I smiled, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, before taking a better look at the messages and emails. DARN. First plane would leave tonight. Tonight. That means I’d see him..by breakfast. Oh my. My heart started pounding as I shot out of bed, being greeted by a yawning Kal. ‘Oh KAL! What news I have!’
——
The plane had landed and taxiing to the airport of Gimpo International Airport, Seoul, seemed to take forever. I eagerly looked out of the window, brushing my fingers through Kal’s fur to ease my mind. Just a few more minutes and I’d see him. Oh my. I felt butterflies in my stomach, my heart pounding and my hands clammy. The captain’s iron voice was shrieking through the speakers, but I couldn’t really make much of his heavily accented english. I sat back in the beige seat, keeping my eye trained on the window, barely registering as one of the flight attendees carefully shook me from my stare. ‘Miss? Are you ready?’ I sat up, realising first class could leave the plane first. Like. Right now. I nodded, a quick smile turning on my face as I quickly picked up my bag and followed her, being able to walk straight out after the sealed door was opened.
It got even crazier when I found a small man waiting for me outside the plane. He held up a small clipboard with my name on it, already recognising me before I realised what was going on. ‘Miss! Welcome. Please.’ He reached for my bag, which he took from me. Kal excitedly wanted to jump up at him, making the small man jump back, laughing awkwardly. ‘Bear dog! Ha!’ He said with a cute accent, his eyes squinting in a wide smile. ‘Now, follow me. Quick route.’ He gestured, as his small legs shuffled off in lightning speed. I even had to set a serious pace to keep up with him. Darn fast little man! But on the other hand, I was overly glad he was fast. The faster I’d see Henry. Once more my heart started to pound loudly in my chest as we quickly strided through customs, picked up my bags and he escorted me to the exit hall. Staying at his side of the sliding door he bowed me a goodbye. I thanked him and dragged Kal from him, before Kal could attempt another tackle on the poor man. I swished my suitcase into the exit hall, a happy Kal looking up at me, curious what adventure would be next. But all I had eyes for was him. It was hard to miss him, since he was towering at least a foot over the other people. Wearing his usual incognito sweater, sunglasses and baseball cap, he waved at me. I pulled Kal and my suitcase along, wishing I could just jump into his arms, stifle him with my kisses, heck, I’d make love to him right here if I could.
‘Hi.’ I breathed, slightly out of breath as I halted before him, dropping my suitcase - but thankfully not Kal’s leash. He smiled, quickly pulling me up into one of those big, big bear hugs. ‘Hmmmmmm.’ He hummed, not lowering me down, pushing his nose in my neck, making me giggle. I wrapped my legs around his hip, settling back in his arms a bit so I could remove his sunglasses. Green eyes meet blue eyes. We kissed. Oh how I missed this. Him. His scent. His scruffy chin. His laugh. We kissed and kissed and kissed to the point that Kal was getting impatient, jumping up at us, wanting to get in on the action. We finally let go so Henry could greet his trusty pal. ‘Hi! Hey! Been a good boy? You’ve been a good boy? Oh Kal! Kal! Kal!’ He laughed as Kal rolled on his back, offering Henry his belly to rub to mighty delight. His paw was even kicking in excitement. In between belly rubs Henry looked up at me, his face melting in what I could best describe as pure love. I could have died happily on that spot right there.

CHAPTER EIGHT
Chris knew this would more than likely be the last time he would see his friends for a while. The reshoots loomed ever closer, the knot in his stomach was getting tighter, and he was growing more and more unnerved at the prospect of what was lying ahead of him. He was determined to make the most of this night as much as he physically could.
He showered and made himself vaguely presentable, ignoring the navy Chanel sweater and trousers that had arrived earlier that morning and opting instead for a plain white tee and jeans. His favourite red belt made a special appearance. He began regretting his decision to allow his management team to redecorate his pad in order to make it “friendlier on the eye” as soon as he took stock of his open lounge. They’d shifted some of the furniture around, added some fresh flowers and balloons here and there, and taken down the photograph of a family trip to Disney that used to be hanging in the entrance hallway. There was also a distinctly sweet and fragrant smell of freesias wafting through the air. It smelled like Springtime and positivity. He hated it.
Just a few “unfiltered” photographs, they said. Nothing too intrusive of stressful. Now, however, they were looking to cover up the potential fall-out from his fling with Jenny after she’d helpfully announced the day before that she was starting divorce proceedings. Matt had taken to messaging him at half-hour intervals to remind him his house needed to be bustling with as many people as possible even if he didn’t know them all personally. He needed to look carefree, he was instructed, and unbothered by whatever may be going on in somebody else’s private life because it had nothing to do with him, right? Maybe flirt a little bit. Bring out the “big guns” and the Boston “bro” personality his fans loved to see. For God’s sake, just try to look as single as possible.
People weren’t due to start arriving until 7 but it didn’t stop Chris from drinking almost as soon as he had woken up, calling on Scott and a couple of his oldest pals to come and join him for some pre-party beers.
“Woah.” said Gary, walking in closely behind Scott, carrying a crate of Budweiser. He rook one exaggerated sniff of the perfumed air surrounding him. “If I didn’t know any better I’d say we’d come to the wrong place!”
“Are we allowed to touch anything?” joked Scott, mocking him by tip-toeing in past the guys.
“Don’t ask. Just do whatever you like, please. I need it to at least feel like it’s still my home.” Chris scratched his head in disbelief. It looked more like something featured on the ‘gram of a would-be influencer than the home of a 30-something bachelor who had no time for soft furnishings and Feng Shui.
“Bro, it’s your birthday! You could at least look happy about it.”
Chris wasn’t drunk enough to muster much more than a half-smile at his brother at that point but figured a few more beers might encourage him to lighten up. He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. He was about to follow the lads into his kitchen when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. If it was Matt bugging him one more time, he swore he’d throw the phone out of the window.
Unknown 1.09pm
Happy birthday sweetie. Can’t wait to see you again x
“Who’s that?” said Scott as he emerged from the kitchen, beer in hand.
Chris just shook his head. “I have absolutely no idea.”
Gradually as the hours passed by, a steady stream of people started making their presence known. Most parties Chris threw rarely went off as originally organised but he didn’t much care. It was always implied that his downtown apartment had an open-door policy when it came to friends and family turning up unannounced. Hell, many would stay for days at a time and he wouldn’t care. If he was holding a party or a game night, people could just show up whenever they felt like it even if Chris himself wasn’t awake or ready to greet them in person.
The vibe soon started picking up and the music was louder now. Scott had made various playlists and was doing the duty of hosting people better than Chris, who had been glued to his phone on and off for most of the afternoon. More and more of his friends arrived with their partners and Chris would give them a bro-shake but pretty much leave them to it. It was...odd. He wasn’t sure what was going on but he was growing concerned that his brother wasn’t much enjoying his birthday celebrations. The table in the hallway was rife with gifts and cards, and the beer and alcohol levels were not in danger of diminishing any time soon. Chris had gone overboard on catered food but he himself had yet to touch anything. That was a danger sign, Scott thought. Last thing he needed was a drunk and melancholy actor on his hands this earlier in the evening. Thankfully, Chris perked up as soon as he saw his mom and Shanna arrive, and Scott breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hello darling. Happy birthday!” Lisa called out to him and embraced him in a typical motherly hug, all stretched arms and smiles, running her hand under his chin as he pulled away. “How is everything?”
“Yeh, all good. Thanks mom. You look great!” Chris moved in to kiss her on the cheek again before pulling back to allow Scott his turn. “Wow, Shan, I really didn’t think you could make that shade of yellow look even more grotesque but you did it!”
When she was sure Lisa couldn’t see her, Shanna flipped him the bird. Chris feigned offense before wrapping his arm tightly around her shoulders and walking her towards the lounge. “Baby sis, you can’t be mean to me on my birthday.”
“Ugh...I really can’t handle you when I don’t have a drink in my hand.”
“Then let’s fix that!”
Chris shifted past a few friends, all greeting him and patting him on the back as he and his sister moved by. Several faces he didn’t recognise so Matt would be proud of him, he thought. “So, is Sarah travelling separate to you guys?” Chris asked, finally taking one of the wrapped boxed out of his mom’s hands.
“I think so. Do you want these in the fridge or in the pantry for later?” Lisa asked indicating the cupcakes she’d been asked to pick up on the way over.
“Um, just leave them there for now, it’s fine.”
Before he got a chance to speak to his mother again, it was too late. He watched as she was grabbed by Josh and his new girlfriend and started to make her way around her son’s oldest friends, greeting them all as though she hadn’t seen them in years. Shanna reappeared next to him, rifling through the bottles of vodka until she landed on her favourite.
“Is Sarah not coming then?” Chris asked, more concerned this time than no one seemed to know exactly where she was.
“Not if you’re going to continue being a dick to her, she’s not.” Shanna turned around to Chris’s fridge and began perusing the selection of mixers. “Where’s the cranberry juice?”
“It’s inside the door.” He responded. Shanna couldn’t see for looking but finally located the carton of juice and poured a fraction of what she needed into the glass before topping it up with a very generous amount of vodka. “I was kind hoping to apologise to her in person actually. Is she still really upset? She hasn’t answered my texts.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
“Well, you were out of like, Chris. But yes, she’ll be here, I’m sure. I think she just had something to do first.”
Chris knew Shanna was hiding something from him. She was a terrible liar.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” He grabbed the glass from her hands. “I am not looking after you tonight.”
“Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll make sure she gets home safe.” Scott reappeared alongside them, merrier than before and holding a small plate of food for Chris. “Why don’t you ‘mingle’ mingle? Your audience awaits, kind Sir.”
Just as Chris was about to protest, his phone vibrated again in his pocket.
Unknown 9.22pm
I hope you’re having a great time tonight. The party looks amazing! Can’t wait to catch up with you properly x
*
At some point around 10pm, Chris escaped. He retreated to his little hideout behind a tree that gave him a clear view of his property without the pressure of being spotted by anyone inside. His phone had buzzed a couple more times and he was now sure if was Jenny reaching out to him. She’d been leaving little heart emojis on some photographs that had already appeared online. He felt a little sick and just needed to get away from the crowds, now tipsier than he was, annoyingly. He took the cigarette he’d bunged from a friend and lit it, savouring the feeling. In that moment was possibly the calmest he’d felt all day.
“Who are you hiding from, birthday boy?” Chris knew it would be Scott who would find him eventually.
Chris shrugged. “No one. Just needed the air.”
“Yeh right. Mom knows you smoke by the way. No point hiding it now.” Scott took the cigarette and took a slow drag before handing it back to him. “Zach hates me smoking inside.”
“Is that why you started running?” Chris smirked.
“Running’s healthy. It’s all about balance.” Scott observed his brother for a moment. “What’s going on? You’ve been quiet all day. You’ve only had, what, three beers? That’s not like you.”
Chris shrugged unconvincingly, avoiding eye contact before his phone buzzed again. He quickly dove into his pocket to grab it but shifted uncomfortably when he saw who it was.
“Somebody’s keen.” Scott didn’t need to ask to know who it was. He could read his brother like a book. “Can’t believe she hasn’t got the message by now.” Scott continued to eye him, unsure of what was going through his head. “That’s not what’s got you down, is it? There’s nothing going on, is there?”
Chris glanced at his brother and shook his head. He knew he’d been caught out and at this point he was too tired to deny it. “I still haven’t heard from Sarah. I’ve tried apologising and it’s like she’s just ghosting me or something.”
“Stop being melodramatic. She lives with your sister. She’s not “ghosting” you, you dick.” His attempt to lighten the mood between them fell flat and he realised humour was going to be wasted on Chris this evening. “She’s got a lot on her plate right now, what with Charlotte and work and everything. Just give her a break, OK? It’s a tricky think she’s trying to navigate here.”
“I don’t know about that.” He shook his head slowly, crushing the cigarette under his shoe. “I said she was being ungrateful.”
Scott sighed. “Well, that’ll explain it. Hey, remember when Shan was a teenager and she got all those letters out of the blue?” Chris nodded at the distant memory. “I think the one thing we need to keep in mind here, with Sarah, is that she chose to reach back. She’s doing things her way and no one is forcing her. That’s gotta be a positive, right?”
*
Sarah felt like an idiot. She had no one to blame but herself. She couldn’t even lean on Shanna for support right now and she didn’t want to disturb Audrey at this hour if she was mid-celebration with Michael. She threw her coat on the stand and stood in the hallway of her apartment, bag swinging low. She kicked off her shoes and took off her tights to feel the coolness of the floor on the soles of her feet. It was a small comfort. The text message was still showing on her phone that was grasped in her hand as if she hadn’t been staring at it for the past three hours.
Charlotte 7.52pm
I’m so sorry. I thought I could do this. Please forgive me.
Sarah had decided to arrive at the venue a little earlier than they’d agreed to meet. She didn’t know what she was planning on doing by deciding that but she just knew she couldn’t sit around the flat any longer, her stomach was tied in knots. She hadn’t eaten much of anything that day but claimed she was saving herself for the extensive catering Chris would no doubt have laid on now that his guest list had multiplied.
She had spent some time getting ready with Shanna and Lisa but left her hair and make-up quite simple figuring she could add to it on the way to the party later on. She didn’t want to make an unfair first impression on Charlotte. She knew she didn’t want to look like she was a party girl but equally so, she didn’t want to appear to have given too much thought to what she was wearing to meet her in the first place. She wanted to remain as casual as possible which was some kind of weird irony given what was taking place.
She managed to make a relatively quiet exit as Lisa was helping zip up the back of Shanna’s jumpsuit telling them she’d be there as soon as she could. They didn’t ask her any questions. She just left and got into the cab that was waiting for her around the corner. A little under fifteen minutes later, she was outside the bar, trying to regulate her breathing. Maybe Charlotte was already inside? Maybe she had had the exact same thought and was having one for courage before they met? That thought made her laugh a little. She opened the door and gave her name to the rep who proceeded to show her to a nice booth in the far corner. Charlotte hadn’t arrived after all but Sarah had a clear eye on the door, as much good as it did her.
She poured herself another glass and wiped at the tears in her eyes. She couldn’t believe she had been reduced to crying over someone she had never met. She couldn’t believe she had allowed herself to assume everything would work out despite evidence to the contrary.
Everyone was right. She was a fool.
She heard the door go but couldn’t face seeing Shanna. She swiped at her face as much as she could, trying to remove any and all hints of her crying. Shanna told her once she was jealous of how she could cry without her skin getting all red and blotchy.
She clocked the time and realised it was perhaps a little too early for her to be coming home unless Scott had shoved her into a taxi, which wouldn’t have surprised her. Loud music and a free bar were Shan’s undoing. She composed herself and waiting for Shanna to appear in the doorway, worse for wear, but everything had gone silent. Sarah got up and walked out of the kitchen, not sure what to expect but certainly not expecting to find Chris stood with his back against the foot, keys dangling between his fingers. He seemed smaller somehow.
His expression briefly turned towards guilt when he noticed she had been crying. He made a move towards her before ultimately deciding against it, preferring to remain still in her hallway. He looked awkward which was a feat in itself for someone who always seemed so...cool, she thought. It didn’t last long, though, a steeliness soon returning to his eyes.
“Hey,” said Sarah diffusing the silence. She suddenly became hyper-aware she was in the Chanel dress he’d given her to wear for his birthday party, the party she should have been at hours ago but instead chose to blow off carelessly in favour of meeting somebody who really shouldn’t have mattered. Shit, she thought. She was a terrible friend. “I’m so sorry, Chris. I really don’t know wh-”
“-You know, I could have done with seeing you there, Sarah. It’s been a fucking terrible day, I’ve had my team hounding me over this Jenny bullshit and having my friends around me would have made all the difference.”
“I just,” she wasn’t sure where to go from here. He’d become so cold in the last few moments. She wasn’t really expecting it but knew she’d pushed her luck a little too much this evening. “I had something I needed to do first, and-”
“I don’t ask for much from my family but the one thing I do expect is that they turn up when they say they’re gonna turn up. You understand me? It’s my fuckin’ birthday after all and you couldn’t even manage that.” He moved past her, ignoring the tears now burning at the corners of her eyes.
“Alright Chris, you’ve made your point.” she whispered. The room felt too small and Chris looked like he’d grown a foot out of pure frustration. She just wanted to go to bed and forget this day ever happened or at least get Chris to leave so she could feel pathetic in peace.
She could detect a faint small of tobacco coming from his breath now he was standing closer to her. “What was so important that you couldn’t make it? Must have been amazing to blow us off like that and please don’t tell me it was Greg. I didn’t think you of all people would sack family off for some fuck you’re ambivalent about at best.”
She felt like a scolded child. Actually, no, it felt worse than that. It felt like he was picking at her, trying to get some kind of reaction out of her but what that reaction was, she didn’t know. She took a breath and calmed herself. Her hands were shaking. She was pretty sure he noticed now.
“It wasn’t like that,” she said, as calmly as possible. “I’ve said I’m sorry, Chris. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, OK? Your family and friends were there and I was planning on dropping by.” She pleaded, her tone striving to be a little more even. She figured if she tried reasoning with him instead of pushing back it might allow them both to get out of this unscathed but he just scoffed.
“Dropping by? Well, gee, thank you for making me an afterthought, Sarah. I really appreciate that.”
“It’s not just you that’s had a crap night, OK?” She shouted before reigning herself in. She really didn’t want to fall out with him on top of everything else. “We all have shit to deal with. At least people turned up to see you. They care about you. They didn’t just leave you hanging around, wondering what you’d done wrong.”
Chris looked confused. He signed and placed his hands on his hips, unsure of what his next move would be. “What’s going on?”
She could feel herself tearing up again, her face getting hotter by the second. She hated crying in front of people and it invariably gave her a headache, one she’d most likely fail to overcome before bedtime. “I arranged to meet her this evening. I didn’t want to say anything to anyone until I’d seen her at least once but, um, she didn’t show.”
For once, Chris didn’t have any answers. If he had been thoughtful instead of the selfish asshole he recognised himself to be, he would have known to have shut his goddamn mouth. “Fuck, Sarah. I...I don’t know what to say. I’m so sorry.” He took another step closer to her but she made no effort to react towards him. “You don’t deserve this.”
Sarah audibly scoffed. “Well, that’s a maybe. But hey, look, happy birthday! Looks like you were right all along! I’ll make sure to wrap it next time.”
“If I’d have known what you’ve been through today, I would have shut my mouth. You’re one of my best friends and I was just thinking of myself, like always.” He leaned against the doorframe and Sarah recognised how pathetic they both looked in that second.
“What kind of person do you have to be to reject someone twice?” Sarah whispered to herself more than anything. She gently banged her head against the doorframe in thought. She wasn’t looking for a response.
Silence passed between them for what felt like hours. They were good at being quiet around each other, neither feeling the need to dispel energy and not caring what the other was doing but this didn’t feel like those times before. She glanced across the doorway at him but didn’t recognise what was looking back at her so intently. He looked like he’d been suspended in motion and if it wasn’t for her tapping her foot on the wall behind her, she would have thought she had, too. Everything just seemed a little fuzzy now and there was a headache threatening her from behind her eyes.
Before she could move again, Chris had crossed what little space there was between them and went for her, his hands grabbing her face and pulling her into him. It was messy at first, their lips slightly out of line with each other and she couldn’t think, she couldn’t breathe. He’d taken the breath straight from her, it felt like. The only thing she could do in that moment was to grab back at his hands that were holding her face but she didn’t feel like pulling them away. Not just yet. For the first time, she had some power over what was happening to her. She was tired of being a good person, being vulnerable for others to use whenever they felt like.
She felt his lips slowly move across hers, calmer now, while she stayed almost still in his grasp. She felt one hand leave her face and reappear on her lower back and he pulled her in to bring her closer. They must have occupied less than a square foot of space stood like this. Everything was silent apart from what Sarah assumed was her heart beating or perhaps that was his? She couldn’t separate them at this point, a perfect fit soon only disturbed by the shrill buzz from someone’s phone in their nearby vicinity.
“Fuck!” Chris whisper-shouted pulling away from her, biting his bottom lip. Sarah scrabbled around to find her bag in the hallway before signing when she saw who it was. She took a breath so as not to give the game away.
“Shan? No, it’s fine, honestly.” Chris could only hear one side of the conversation as she spoke on the phone but could instantly tell from Sarah’s inability to get a sentence out that Shanna was drunk and giving her the third degree. He wanted to grab the phone and smash it against the wall. “No, it’s no problem. Don’t worry, OK? Yes. Yes, I’ll see you in a bit. Alright. Bye, lovely.”
Sarah had turned away from Chris at this point and looked down at the phone in front of her. She pursed her lips, embarrassed that she could still feel him on her. She thought she might have been imagining things but that was definitely his hand gently touching her on her hip where he’d held her just moments ago. She turned around to face him but one look into his blue eyes and she felt like she was going to collapse on the floor. She was pretty sure he could feel her shaking but he kept his grip on her, trying to work out what she was thinking. She just shook her head slowly and in confusion at what transpired and walked out of the kitchen, down the hall to the bathroom hoping to get some privacy and some cold water on her face.
She didn’t get very far. Chris followed her and grabbed her wrist, swinging her back towards him until she crashed against him again, unsteady on her feet. There was no time to think before his lips were on hers again, harder than they were before. He had his arms around her waist and started walking her backwards towards...something, she couldn’t register what.
She briefly resisted his movements but after a few steps or so he made do with the wall next to her bedroom doorway. He pressed her hards against it, his hands now back cupping her face. She could feel how hard he had become with the way he pushed his crotch into her in an attempt to keep her still against him. She knew she didn’t want to break away again, she was tired of fighting and was ready to let it just wash over her. She grabbed at his sweater with both fists and moaned into his kiss.
She shoved him until he felt his back meet the opposite wall. The groan that left him was nothing short of filthy and something inside her snapped when she felt his hands fist in her hair while the other slipped down to grip her ass. She felt him pull up the hem of her dress, his fingers gently skimming the back of her thighs. He grabbed at her just underneath her ass and pulled her against him harder than before until they lost their balance and she ended up on top of him as he slid down the wall and hit the hard wood floor beneath them. They’d have bruises tomorrow but they didn’t care.
He desperately grabbed at the hem of her dress again, this time to feel her soft skin between her thighs. Her skin was so smooth and not to the touch, he couldn’t bear it. She felt like she was on fire. He managed to pull her panties to one side but she felt them rip as she furiously gripped at the belt on his trousers. He worked out pretty quickly what she was trying to do and took over for them both to release himself as quickly as possible. In one move he placed her where he wanted her. He heard her sharp intake of breath and looked up just in time to see the look of pleasure on her face as he entered her, perhaps harder than he had intended to but she didn’t seem to mind.
Her eyes closed. He could see the blush covering her skin and her neck and he reached out to pull her face back to him as he motioned for her to move on top of him. He filled her, thrusting into her as much as he could from this angle and briefly regretted not keeping them up against the wall. He knew it would be over in a matter of seconds at this rate. They were both struggling to feel something. Make something of this godawful day.
He couldn’t take his eyes off the way she was moving. He felt her wavering slightly as he quickly approached his own release, her eyes open now and looking down at him. Their staggered breaths were the only sound filling the space. He was so close and he knew she would be too but he couldn’t ignore the look of fear growing apparent on her face. The glazed look in his eyes felt like electricity coursing through her veins. She didn’t know it could feel as exciting as it did to be encouraged along by him like this, his hands firm on her hips, gliding her up and down, keeping him firmly inside her. She had to look away and she began to move faster, slightly out of rhythm now, scraping her knees against the floor on either side of him, pain that only served to heighten the pleasure.
She could feel him throbbing inside her as his legs began to shake and his breathing quickened. The sound of them both hitting the floor over and over again only served to push her on even more against her better judgement. It was too late to stop now. They would just have to deal with the consequences another time.
He tried to hold off from his own orgasm for as long as possible. He wanted more than anything to see her hit her peak as he held her hips tighter and moved her so she could take him harder. One of her hands pushed back against the wall behind him in order to find purchase and it was this move that ultimately caused them both to hit the point of no return.
He didn’t know who came first but it didn’t matter. After a few moments, their breathing started to even out, their skin showing that unmistakable sheen of sweat that only sex could give. Without thinking, he wrapped one arm around her waist and stroked the strands of hair out of her face. He wanted her to look at him as she continued to get her breathing under control but her eyes were too tightly shut. He look scuffed up from their actions and his pupils were blown wide open. She couldn’t even imagine the state she was in. If he could have found a little strength to speak in that moment, he would have told her she was more beautiful than he’d ever seen her look before. Perhaps wisely, he decided to save that for another time.
Oh fuck.
Sarah’s brain went into overdrive as she gradually came back to reality. Chris was trying to figure out what was going through her mind as he felt her slip off him and shuffle herself to the side, pulling the hem of her dress down in a rather redundant effort to protect her modesty. Her underwear was left wrapped around one ankle as she tried to move onto her knees to stand up. She wiped at her mouth with the side of her hand and in that moment, he thought she might start crying again.
“Fuck.” She rubbed her face with her hands. He didn’t think she meant for him to hear that. It was the last thing he thought he would hear her say. He made a grab for her hand but she avoided his grasp as she stood and, on shaky legs, walked back into the kitchen leaving him ruined on the floor against the wall, shaken in more ways than one.
She couldn’t register her surrounding. She felt like she was about to throw up. How could this have happened? How could she be so stupid?
She held herself as she contemplated all the things she would need to say to him to try and make this better. No words made sense in her mind and those that did, she could barely string together to form coherent sentences. She heard Chris enter the room behind her but he stopped just inside of the doorway seemingly as unable to speak as much as she was. This was bad, she thought. So fucking bad. She felt embarrassed when she eventually clocked his messed-up hair. He looked dazed by the whole thing. No doubt his back would be bearing the brunt of their heavy mistake.
she finally reached his eyes and was met with a shy smile and a look she didn’t quite recognise. Was it pity? Concern? Regret? All of the above most probably, she couldn’t quite tell.
“Sarah,” he whispered, swallowing. “I’m....” He took a couple of steps forwards, holding his hand out to reach her, offering what he thought would be some kind of solace.
“I think you need to get back to your party,” She said calmly, deflecting the situation, tears forming in her eyes.
“Sarah, please, I don’t want...”
“People are going to be wondered where you are, Chris. You should go.”
Chris tried to focus on her face in an attempt to find something there other than the shame she was failing to hide. He wished he could get to her but the space she was putting between them felt wider than the kitchen they were stuck in. Resigned, he bowed his head slowly and turned to leave half expecting, or possibly wanting, her to stop him.
