Could've been much improved. Great acting and DP work even. Something about the script or possibly the editing made it feel scrambled. Better ending as well would've helped. Would had been a much better series. Too many characters shoved into one movie.

I finally got around to watching The Many Saints of Newark this weekend, the prequel movie to The Sopranos.
Despite reading many mixed reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, some people did come across as overplayed caricatures but for the limited screen time they had, it was permissible in my opinion.
I was completely immersed for the full 120 minutes and felt the tone and direction was seamless with that of the original series.
I felt the casting was amazing, with some spot on likenesses to the cast of The Sopranos itself. Vera Farmiga was particularly amazing as Tony's mum, Livia but I wish she was more of a focus.
My only issue was that it left me wanting more, it felt as if it was almost a showcase for a new 8-12 episode HBO show, but the devastating thing is...it's not. That's it.
I highly recommend for any Sopranos fan, although maybe watch a refresher on the original series first in order for you to remember who everyone is supposed to be playing!
