“ 'Where does a story begin, Willie? I asked.
For a while he did not say anything.
Then he shifted in his chair. 'Where does a wave on the ocean begin? he said.
Where does it form a welt on the skin of the sea, to swell and expand and rush towards shore?' ”

We grinned at each other with stupid, childlike glee. Our naked bodies were visible in the water, but what was there to be embarrassed about? We were nothing more than two insects preserved in amber, after all.

Embracing Self-Love with Lesley Lindsey Davis: Why You Are Enough
Do you ever feel like you’re not enough? You’re not alone. 🌱 But here’s the good news—according to Lesley Lindsey Davis, author of You Can’t Eat Love, you are enough, just as you are. 💖 Her work focuses on helping people embrace self-love, face their emotions, and build healthier relationships in both their personal and business lives.
The Emotional Eating Trap
We’ve all been there—reaching for a bag of chips or a slice of cake when emotions get too heavy. 🍫 But Lesley explains that food is often a stand-in for the emotions we’re avoiding. “Instead of confronting our feelings, we distract ourselves with comfort food.”
Lesley’s solution? Face the emotions head-on. Her book You Can’t Eat Love guides readers through the process of breaking the emotional eating cycle and finding healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges.
Grief and Healing: Lessons from the Heart
One of the most poignant parts of Lesley’s story is her experience with grief. After losing her mother, she realized she had been avoiding the pain. “I thought time would heal it,” she says, “but time doesn’t heal—it just changes the way we feel.”
Through journaling and self-reflection, Lesley allowed herself to fully experience her grief, and in doing so, she found peace. 🌸 Her journey teaches us that embracing all emotions, even the difficult ones, is key to living a fuller life.
The Importance of Self-Talk
Lesley’s message is clear: how you talk to yourself matters. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself! 🗣 She transformed her life by changing her inner dialogue, and now she helps others do the same.
Ready to start your self-love journey? Visit Lesley’s website youcanteatlove.com for more information on her book and workshops. 🌟

[They] edit their memories about the things they’ve said and done—they rearrange the facts—all of us do it. We play with truth, mold it into the form that shows our best side to the world.

Tan Twang Eng || The House of Doors
Booker Prize Longlist 2023 I was quite reluctant to read The House of Doors, I did not know whether a novel about a famous writer would interest me. I am glad I gave the novel a chance. It turned out to be as much about people around the famous writer as about him, it also gave voice to something that was never spoken about in his time and age. Main character in The House of Doors is not…

"most allegedly haunted houses turn out to have gas leaks!"
no they don't. you are merely skimming the surface of mundane shit that can be wrong with old houses with your one puny little explanation that only fits a very small number of cases. try harder

The barber pegged a sheet of newspaper around their shoulders, then proceeded to snip their braid off. Without fail every one of the coolies rubbed the back of their head with their palm when they got off the stool. Some of them picked up their severed plait from the ground, coiling it around their wrist or stuffing it into their pocket; but there were also a great number of them who left their cords of hair lying on the ground where they had fallen. Many of the coolies had tears running down their cheeks, but whether from joy or sorrow I could not tell.
