Friday Kiss Tag đ
Tagged by the always lovely @the-golden-comet! Enjoy a little sneak peek at Chapter 7 of Godhunt. A full spice version will be available to the Friends and Lovers tier on Ream shortly after Chapter 7 is posted (which should be at the end of July/beginning of August.)
Louis relaxes into their lap, looping their arms around his neck and leaning into their hold. Their body isnât warm, but chilly like the mist of a forest morning. Louis only presses closer, trying to warm them with his own thin, mortal skin. The hand that cups his chin moves down to stroke the wiry, dark brown hair dappling his chest. âSweet thing,â they murmur into his ear, gently kissing the shell. Louis shudders and they gently blow a puff of cool air across his neck. The Holly-Crowned One continues kissing down his jaw and neck before they reach his jugular. Yes, this is what Louis had wanted at the Flower Ball; he wanted to sink his canines into their neck. One of his hands sinks into their white hair at the same time that their teeth sink into his skinâ And he awakens.

Lael was definitely an artificer for almost 600 years and was canonically blessed by Mys.tra in this regard. (I'll share the full description another time.) She loved it; the most fascinating application of the Art to her. Knowing that she slowed significantly in creating magic items after being possessed by the Crown of Horns just . . . hurts. Having something you loved so much and were divinely bless in regards to ruined by trauma like that.
#OOC / HOLLY.#I think the biggest project she's undertaken in this discipline has been her prosthetic#she's taken up other smaller projects esp if it was needful#but the LOVE of it the PASSION for it was tainted#I'd have to double check but iirc a lot of the items we know she made had a protective slant#then she got possessed by one of the most malevolent enchanted items ever#ugh and then knowing she's not only a Chosen and one of the Seven but was divinely blessed w/ re: enchanted objects#she called it hubris that she tried to master the crown but WAS IT?#part of the blessing was that she should be able to negate enchantments or cause them to go wild#it wasn't hubris at least not entirely. it was faith in her goddess' â her mother's â blessings#and that faith failed her at the worst moment#I have a lot of feelings on the Crown of Horns and none of them are good sdklfjhg#we'll get into soon

Oh my god 1335 is the same year El started fostering Lhaeo too? Lhaeo and Susprina were raised together? Holy shit?
#OOC / HOLLY.#the fact that two heirs to powerful houses [one a crown prince] were entrusted to El's care to be raised in secret for their own safety#IN THE SAME YEAR#El cradling these two infants: what is in the fucking water#but also the fact that El didn't pass one of them off to someone else#or leave Susprina in stasis#and raised them concurrently in addition to their usual duties and did so well . . .

HOLLY FANS, RISE UP!! đŁâŒïžđ
*In order not to just pit "Queeg" against "White Hole", I've expanded the definition of "Holly episode" to include ones which maybe just have one good scene for the character e.g. Hattie saving the crew's lives in "Back To Reality" or Norman re-enacting the "Everybody's Dead" scene in "Skipper".
#oh god this is going to be so tough though :â)#I mean like White Hole is one of my favourite episodes ever and I ADORE how Holly centred it is#especially her super intelligent mode - like WOW I'm gay đłđ€#but honestly she has so many good moments!#her cute little crown in Kryten's last day đ#and her high and low variants in S5#just the entirety of Queeg in general tbh#because I love how the crew realises how much they appreciate Holly <33#and aaaaa when she saves them from the Despair Squid in Back To Reality?? đ€§#she really does care about them oh my godddd đđ#just - aaaaaa!!!! đđ„șđ€§#I'm going to find it so difficult to choose just one! :3#like wow#I'm going to need a minute to think about this đŠ#I'll definitely vote eventually though hehehe but thank youuu op!!! I absolutely love to see Holly content on my dash <33#and sorry for spamming the tags lmaoo I'll shut up now! :)#<33

Actually, one little detail I find very amusing is that when Simon Petrikov first introduces himself in the âHolly Jolly Secretsâ tapes he says heâs studying to be an antiquarian
But in every other appearance since then he just says he is an antiquarian.
Implying either Simon, while the Crown was actively driving him crazy and his life was falling apart and he was probably crying about Betty every night
still managed to finish his academic degree.
Or he's just smoothing over the truth to make himself seem more scholarly.

FĂ«anĂĄro, Nerdanel & Telperinquar
Latest portraits
Sons of FĂ«anĂĄro
Now to the house of Fingolfin!
HC:
Feanor: Feanor dresses in pale colors like Miriel. I like to think Miriel dresses in light colors, not necessarily white. I donÂŽt think he adorns himself with a lot of jewelry, just enough for him to be stylish, but not more, as he cares more about making things for those he cares for than himself, and if it is for himself, he would rather focus on something more practical, like lamps and machines.
Nerdanel: I have a surprising lot of thoughts about Nerdanel, one of them being that sheÂŽs a very loud Feanorian stan, although thereÂŽs a lot she thinks is plainly stupid she still supports her husband(ex??) and most of his ideals fierily. I think she dresses much more plainly than other Noldor, but will not necessarily turn down the option to adorn herself in jewelry. While I think she eagerly awaited her crowning, I donÂŽt think it ever came, and she therefore never really had the possibility to wear a crown (not circlet she could still wear circles) as Finarfin was crowned when his brothers left. I donÂŽt think that married in, in the Noldor royal house, could wear crowns before they themself was crowned kings/queen, even if it was just over a smaller piece of land. This left her to never wear a circlet as she was waiting to be crowned queen which never happened, meaning she never wore something on her head. She still wore royal braids and such, as that was accepted. All this leads her to be called RĂantaĂș by those who are against Feanor**. * She ends up going to Formenos and taking in all the Feanorian loyalties over the ages, becoming a queen at the end although never crowned, and known as a bitter woman because of her sons' departure.
Celebrimbor: I donÂŽt read Celebrimbor as a naive person, rather I read him as someone who bears a lot of guilt, and in some cases let it control him, even if he was not the one at fault, this makes it easier for him to welcome everyone when the second age begins, after all evil was destroyed right? That was what the Valar said, and it does harm to everyone to throw someone out in the wilderness. I do believe he was aware that Annatar was a Maia of Morgoth, I also believe that while he didnÂŽt think Annatar was all good, he believed in himself that he could make Annatar a better person. When Celebrimbor is reborn he ends up seeking out Nerdnal, who welcomes him in her city with open arms where he stays most of his time. On jewelry, I was helped by a lot of people (@lulukeskywalker pointed out that Eregion was named after the hollie trees itÂŽs said to have) with the holly HC some might have heard about him, and it comes from that Eregion had a lot of hollie trees, which is a very sweet note professor, thank you for that, so I, of course, had to give him some holly themed jewelry. On a last note of jewelry, I tried to give him something between art nouveau and brutalism, to give him his own style. - note Celebrimbor follows second age fashion, therefor having his braids at the back instead of both at the front and back. - note CelebrimborÂŽs circlet is very intentionally inspired by MaglorÂŽs.
Other HC:
I like to think that both Thingol and Finwe ruled their land as Empires, meaning that there were smaller kings and queens under their rule, while the rest, like Owlë and Ingwë ruled as only kings. I think it makes most sense with Thingol but I also like it with Finwe as his family was so big so it would make sense. - examples would be the roman empire and Scandinavia around year 0 to year 500 where the really where no kingdoms as we see them today but many small kings and later one king over the small kings. *
**RĂanta = To crown/Coronate: Quenya - Ă = Without/Destitute of: Quenya - RĂantaĂș = Without crown/Crownless: Quenya
Grey, mostly a pale grey close to white, is the mourning color for the EldarÂŽs as itÂŽs associated with Nienna.

Is it cheating to recommend my own book?
I'm writing a book on Ream called Godhunt! Here you'll find:
-Fucked up deer -Quasi-historical settings -Tea parties -Fancy lesbians -Baking (the bread kind) -Trans and nonbinary characters -Jealous forest gods -Small town mystery
There is no god in the forest. Thereâs nothing in there but animals and trees. Sometimes there is a deer, which is sometimes a wolf, and sometimes a fox. But thereâs no god. The town of Foxton is everything a town should be: devout, proper, and orderly. Everyone goes to morning service to hear Speaker Burton deliver the word of the Light Above, and then the ladies go to brunch to discuss town news. Lucy Keating tries to fit in, but living under Motherâs disdainful gaze after Grandpa Sandyâs death, she doesnât feel like sheâs living. After two men are killed by wolves on the night of the Flower Ball, fear and faith rattle the community. There is something in the forest hunting the people of Foxton, but it canât be a god. It must be a monsterâor are the people turning into monsters? What is Lucy turning into?
It's free to read and the first four chapters are available to the public! (Chapter five is oncoming.) After chapter five, chapters will be available to followers only and you will need a Ream account (which is free) to read the rest. Once Godhunt is finished, all chapters will be made public!
HELLO BOOK FRIENDS OF TUMBLR!
i have come searching for good queer fiction (mainly fantasy) books. after reading so many uh,,, NOT THE GREATEST ones, i need some good ones to get me back into reading! :D
the queer elements (such as a romance) do not have to be central to the plot. :> also i am searching for mainly mlm romances. if one of the characters is trans, EXTRA BONUS! âĄ
fantasy with like magic and dragons is my favourite, but im okay with things like sci-fi or modern age with fantasy elements! another exception is queer books set in the past. :}
for reference, my favourite books of all time are the six of crows books!
HELP ME PLEASE!! đ„ș
sorry for the excessive tags and text, i really want new books haha
#godhunt#sadly it is not mlm; the holly-crowned one is genderfluid#but louis is a trans man!#warning that he's not out for half of the book#and disclaimer that I the author am a trans man

Heraldic devices; FĂ«anorions
Maedhros: It was quite a challenge to design Maedhros' device. He is the heir and therefore it must show, but it also have to contain his personality. Which I always interpreted as more elegant and simple, neat. I wanted to incorporate the motif of rose. Since I connect Maedhros (and Nerdanel) to roses. I wanted to incorporate both the star of FĂ«anor and rose of Nerdanel.
I. the first picture shows the device of Maitimo as he used in Valinor
II. Maedhros after Fëanor's death, high king of the Noldor in Beleriand. Used briefly of course. I believe it was designed by Maglor and he used it during Maedhros captivity. Maglor was not thrilled to be a king and so I can imagine he would use Maedhros' a lot. It has 16 points, just as Finwë's heraldic device.
III. Maedhros after his abdication, lord of Himring.. a lot of point for a lord, right? Fingolfin had 8 as well.
I. Makalaurë, I remember holly leaves were mentioned in Return to Aman (written by @cycas ). Since then they stuck in my head as Maglor's heraldic device. Of course they are golden. Picking themes for Maglor was not hard at all. The red circles are supposed to signify the berries of holly.
II. Maglor after Maedhros' capture. I am not sure if he was crowned the high king of the Noldor or not. He is not listed anywhere as one, it seems to me he managed to escape the kingship. After Maedhros' rescue, the golden circle was reduced in size as to not touch the sides. Maglor used this device in Beleriand and never used the Valinorean one again.
Celegorm, I was a little unsure what to choose, but it have not took me a long time to pick silver pine cone. I could not find any suitable animal-related theme, everything looked wuite ridiculous. I suppose even this look a little ridiculous. I was also unsure if I should go all the way and use the green or pick someting more inline with his siblings. However, Celegorm is odd one in the group really. He is FĂ«anor's third son and still deserve distinct design, not to be confused with any other. 4 points obviously, his device follows the conventional rules.
Caranthir, oh Caranthir, I always have a problem with him. Caranthir is the one I do not know much about. I do not have headcanons about him, I just do not know. I could not pick anything personal for him and there are not informations about him. We know Celegorm, Amrod and Amras were hunters, Maedhros is the heir, Maglor is golden and musician, who is Caranthir? He is known for his temper, the dark Finwë.
I chose dark moody colours and many many stars. Instead of one central star he has 7 of them. His device is wuite formal. Of course the reason is that I did not know what to do with him. Yet what is the in-story reason? Maybe he used to have different device in Valinor, but began to use this one in Beleriand. He must have some very good reason to slap so many stars in. Maybe because he managed the trade, he used this neutral, formal and very "FĂ«anor's son" screaming device?
I think that his Valinorean device might have some moths. Moths are suitable dark and moody.
Curufin, it was not hard to design. I wanted his device to be similar to FĂ«anor's, yet it shall not outshine Maedhros. Technically the device break rules as there are 8 sides touching, but Curufin was never a king. I think the yellow can be ignored as a "point." After all the same motif is featured in Maedhros'. I wanted to reapeat the Maedhros theme, because although he is the oldest, Curufin is most similar to his father.
For Curufin I had chosen gems as symbols. I think diamnods are very fitting for him. I had it on my mind the entire time from the beginning. The question was only where I am going to place them. I think the inspiration by Fëanor is also clear. I am not sure how Curufin felt about it later... he is always Atarinkë.
I have to do Celebrimbor too, but I think he had more than one device.
Amrod and Amras, I went a little wild with them. They are the youngest and therefore can have some fun. As such I chose more creative devices. Red maple for Amrod (because aesthetic, not really for the meaning) and oak for Amras. Oak is in many cultures regarded as the kingly tree. I think the devices are both similar enough and different enough to denote their relationship as twins while maintaining separate identities. Honestly Amros' device and Maglor's kingly Beleriand device are my favorites.
I would like to do Fingolfinwean and Finarfinwean devices as well, but I am not sure I'll have enough creativity in me.

Heads Up, Seven Up!
Tagged by the lovely @the-golden-comet!
Here's a peek at Godhunt, Chapter 6: Offer (which should be out this weekend!
They are patient with her, smiling with their head tilted to the side. Lucy could spend the rest of the night, the rest of her life watching their beautiful face with their thin lips and long nose that she wants to kiss. Maybe thatâs what she should ask for; the privilege to kiss the Holly-Crowned One and die happily immediately after. âAre you waiting for me?â The sound of their throaty voice makes Lucyâs knees buckle. Her throat unsticks itself in time to say, âI think I have been waiting for you my entire life.â Their laugh is the rustling of leaves in the hot summer wind.

I think one of the biggest mysteries of tfota universe is why the hell Balekin told Jude to kiss him. I gaped at my book for a full minute while reading that and at first followed Jude reasoning that he wanted to know something about his brother, but after a while I also started thinking Balekin was kinda envious of his supposedly weak and lazy younger brother that somehow managed to steal the crown he killed the whole royal family to get from right under his nose and he wanted to get back at Cardan and take whatever he could from him, even if it was some mortal girl. But what made the whole thing more strange was that Jude was âglamouredâ and wasnât supposed to recall that happening at all, as he didnât order her to remember and pass on the information, so in the end it wouldnât really affect Cardan in any way. And he gave her those pearl earrings that I initially thought were some kind of spying device but then Jude traded them for the walnut with Mother Marrow and everyone moved on with life, so I guess there was some very weird, creepy attraction to Jude involved? Someone get me Hollyâs number I have QUESTIONS

I've been chipping away at info posts about The Nine and I'm like. how do I explain they were canonically a polycule, where do I put that info
#OOC / HOLLY.#if nothing else there's a fun fact for y'all#which I think makes the Crown and its outcome hurt EVEN WORSE#they adventured together for THIRTY YEARS#they built a HOME together#they were companions and friends and lovers#I genuinely think this was one of the happiest periods of Laeral's life#and she would've stayed with these people until they all passed away#and honestly? probably would've continued to live in the Stronghold â the home they built together â even then#literally nothing good ever happens to Laeral but that something proportionally as terrible happens#she never gains something but that she loses something else#this is not an exaggeration it happens to her every single time#like becoming pregnant but Khelben dying before she gives birth

Why is Jude Duarte the perfect morally grey characterâŠ
- Her parents were brutally slaughtered at a young age, and while hating Madoc, she also had a soft spot for her âfather.â Since she was small, this man raised her and taught her everything she knew. Of course she had memories from her own parents, and could never forgive Madoc for what he did, but she also saw the fatherly side of him and appreciated it. Jude Duarte was created in a morally grey environment.
- Jude Duarte will do anything for her power/pride, even if it means risking everything and everyone she has. She could have easily brushed off petty insults and kept temper during her brutal bullying/harassment she was going through, like Taryn and the rest of her family insisted, but Jude never let it slide. Even if it was simple revenge that might earn her a dip into a creek, Jude always stood her ground. Later into the series, we see her completely and utterly invested with the little power she gains and how she uses it. There are considerable more risks with every power move she makes, especially everything concerned with the crown. Her family is usually an afterthought, and rarely an emotional case. Even with Oak, Jude is more concerned about the use of power and where she stands, then she is for his safe-being. Not to mention the time Jude almost killed Taryn in a squabble over Locke, which in its entirely mocked Jude and what control she had over someone close to Cardan. Jude loves her family, and will protect them, but not unless it suits her in some way.
- Everyone/anyone is her enemy⊠no matter how much she âtrustsâ them. We see it with her relationship with Taryn, where Jude cares for her sister, but never really trusts her. Even with Cardan, while Jude was infatuated with him, she never once trusted him. All of her friends and family becomes pawns in her power game, and she will always back up herself first. This was taught to her by Madoc, who put battle/power first above his own important people and morals. Cardan was a known enemy to Jude, but he showed her a vulnerability/empathy that she showed no one else. Instead of being emotional and falling for him harder, Jude convinced herself it was an act and to use it to her advantage. Most people wouldnât shackle a boy that was being beat by his own brother, trick him into having a crown he did NOT want to have, AND witnessed his whole family being slaughter in front of him⊠Jude didnât care, she wanted the crown and her revenge.
Nonetheless, Jude has a side of her that is very protective and loves harder than the average person. Her strength and determination could be used for something more than her own gain, and she shows she is capable of that later into the series. We understand why Jude acts the way she does because we witness the pain of her character first hand. Who wouldnât want revenge against the very people that hate her for her existence? Being human means your weak, can be controlled⊠a creature owned by the fae. Love was wired to be thought of as a weakness, something to make you lose the battle. In this series, we see her struggle with the choices of to love, or gain more power.
I think Holly Black made an AMAZING female lead that wasnât written for love, but for feminine rage and power. Love didnât stop her from gaining what she needed, what her goals were, and instead make her stronger. Jude fought most of her battles alone and failed, but got up regardless. Cardan wasnât her knight in shining armor, it was quite the opposite. And letâs just say, the best series Iâve read so far.

thinking about how everything good in Simon Petrikov's life (coming back into Marceline's life, being around people that care for him and accomodate to him as Ice King, being around more friends and family, finding a measure of peace and slowly starting to crawl back to who he truly is deep down) ultimately all goes back to Finn finding empathy for him and trying to connect with him, coming to a head in Holly Jolly Secrets when he asks him not to leave or kidnap anyone to make himself feel better (and while for Ice King its that he is so far gone he doesn't understand what he's lost, Finn understands) but accidentally reinvents holiday vibes to cheer him up
Everything comes from this. Before this point, Ice King was so dangerous and unstable that even his penguins weren't safe from his wild mood swings; he had no friends or family, having either lost them or driven them away on purpose as he feared his growing loss of lucidity. He was alone, losing more of himself to the crown, and losing more than that all the time; plagued by nightmare visions and hallucinations as well as constantly seeing spirit things no one else could, and he was getting worse every day.
As he was, he could never come back into Marceline's life; she avoided him, too distraught by what her adoptive father had become. He couldn't develop genuine friendships or any real kind of stability.
And afterrwards, that changes. Bit by bit Ice King stops capturing princesses at all, stops indulging the worst parts of himself; his callousness, his selfishness. He goes back into Marceline's life and there he stays, establishing a family life for himself even if he doesn't understand it, he grows more at peace and contentment with himself, the violence and potential for harm so diminished that it permanently affects how people interpret him. They forget the violence and madness, and only remember the fun parts; his whimsicalness, his complete lack of shame or cringing at himself, his cheer.
And it all comes back to Finn, one winter night, seeing the horror of how much the Ice King lost, going out of his way to try to help him. And from there Ice King develops a kind of friendship with him and Jake.
(And such is how you reach into the dark and pull a man out again.)

I mean, I (and others) did predict Fionna coming to the realization that âSimon being Ice King again is very very bad actuallyâ via watching IKâs old tapes - in a thematic reversal of Holly Jolly SecretsâŠ. You know, Finn learned to like Ice King more after learning about Simon Petrikov and who he used to be, Fionna learned to like Simon Petrikov more after really learning about Ice King and who he used to be.Â
But the thing that really stuck with me about how the show pulled it off is how⊠tame that video was. Compared to what the audience knows about how terrible Ice King could get.Â
Most of the video Fionna saw was Ice King goofing off, with just the last clip giving her a tiny little taste of how prone he was to fits of anger and extreme misery
She didnât get to see the videos of Ice King crying for literal hours on end, she didnât get to see him throw tantrums that make him a legitimate danger for those around him, I donât think she actually knows he used to kidnap and stalk women on a regular basis - but thatâs okay, because she didnât need to. That tiny little taste of Ice Kingâs misery and pain was really all she actually needed.
Because it really speaks to how little she actually understood of the Ice Kingâs situation before. How much seeing that one little clip of him back in âPrismo the Wishmaster'' gave her such a totally wrong impression of what Ice King was like
that just seeing him yell at Gunter and cry once is enough to make her totally reexamine all of her preconceived notions about him.
And it really speaks how despite her sometimes-childish attitude, Fionna really possesses a lot of emotional intelligence. Both in how quickly she correctly gauged that Ice Kingâs behavior in the last clip was a regular thing for him and probably not even his worst moment and that his anger was yet another expression of his being 'super-sad'
And how clearly her Second Thoughts about the Crown Plan didnât start when she saw Ice King yell - they started when she saw how despite working so hard on getting himself Cursed again, Simon still couldnât bear the idea of watching videos of Ice Kingâs âGood Timesâ.
Because as much as it was important for Fionna to really know Ice King in order to fathom just how terrible the Crown Plan was, it was also equally important for her to really know Simon as well.
When she was so dismissive toward Simonâs plight in the Prismo episode, and when she so eagerly and thoughtlessly jumped on the Crown Plan - she really knew nothing about either facets of his identity. She only got such a quick clip of Ice King actually in a good mood, and all sheâs seen of Simon was him at his lowest point - rude, dismissive, screaming at her face, literally considering letting her whole world burn in his own depressive spiral.Â
Itâs only after they reached Farmworld and officially started to work towards the Crown Plan that Fionna really started to know who Simon Petrikov is when heâs not at rock bottom. Thatâs when she learned how intelligent
And dorky
And kind
And comfortingÂ
And fatherlyÂ
And a silly little hopeless romantic for his GF
he is.Â
And they became real friends and she really grew fond of all of these things about him. So now, watching clips of Ice King⊠it takes her some time to process it, clearly, but it also bothers her how little of these traits that she likes about her friend and he likes about himself she can see in the crazy old Ice Wizard.
Seeing also how mad and sad he could be was just what clinched the deal for her, the last excuse she could find for why it was okay (âMaybe he really was happier like that?â) gone.
And that also relates to her more general anxieties about the Crown Plan from farther in the same episode.
Now that sheâs seen how much being infused Magic changed Simon⊠It's no wonder sheâs so worried about how Magic will change her and Cake and all of her loved ones.
And itâs not a totally unfounded fear. Weâre still not exactly sure how bringing Magic back into Simonâs brain will affect Fionnaworld - but it will most likely work the same as it did the other way around? When Fionnaworld first lost its magic? So that will mean not only the people and the world will change physically, but their memories and minds will also be altered as if they always lived in the Magical World and never in the Mundane world Fionna remembers.
And that will kinda make them into different people. Gary Prince and Prince Gumball feel like the most obvious comparison. One is a literal god-king who seems to have at least a bit of the old Bubblegum Hubris problem
The other is just a humble little put-on Barista trying to make it big
Becoming Prince Gumball again would be in some way the ultimate fulfilment of Gary's dream - not just a Pastry Mansion but a whole Candy Kingdom! But... it would also mean giving up on all of the memories and experiences of ever having been Gary Prince. And... it's at least worth considering if it's worth it.
We know that Change doesn't have to be all bad, Cake the Cat will testify to that
I'm sure that from her perspective, having every bit of her memories wiped and replaced is worth it if she can keep her mind and ability to speak.
But Fionna's little Storytime with Simon, I think, really gave Fionna a look to how much his reminiscing is important to him
and really gave her a glimpse to how much people's history and memories effect who they are, and seeing this and seeing what âturning into a different and more magical person without your original memoriesâ did to Simon Petrikov
Itâs really no wonder it makes Fionna worried.
