Hey. I guess I have been absent for a few days... I have a good excuse though! I'm sick and still am sick. It seems to be just a cold so I should be fine in a few days. I'm not happy right now though because I have to keep blowing my nose every few minutes. I suppose it could be worse...

When the crew asked Dot to do job ads for them and she replied with "sounds like a pain" I was fascinated.

Most of Dot's characterization these past few episodes was doing things for others without being asked, and then downplaying her work when they complimented her on it. So when she hesitated to do the little job ads for the crew, my first instinct was "She Would Not Freaking Say That", but then I mulled it over and... I actually really like that choice.

Dot is a very nuanced character, full of subtleties. She's not exactly averse to new experiences, but she is very selective with what she's willing to go along with. She likes doing favors for others but only on her own terms. She has an interest in learning about pokemon training, but only recently had the motivation to become a trainer herself. In fact, she only seems to do things when she feels especially motivated. She's hard on herself, alarmingly so at times (namely when Spinel messes with the Volt Tacklers and she falls for it), and from what I can see she thinks very lowly of herself, which, along with Murdock's general attitude toward her (simultaneously overprotective and hands-off in a desperate attempt to see her come out of her shell) is why I headcanon her to have clinical depression.

So maybe she was having a bad brain day, or managing expectations. Or maybe she just hates doing graphic design for ads lmao

okay my mom did read to me growing up but it was never kids books like harry potter bcuz she already read those to my sister. she would EXCLUSIVELY read me adult fiction books that she was already reading herself that were about really adult/political topics and i cant even be mad bcuz admittedly they were really good books. but i was like 10 why were u reading me a book thats about indian political activism in the 70s...... and second of all why was i definitely into it

if you're bilingual/multilingual i really suggest doing translation as a hobby. nothing serious, just getting your favourite songs or poems or book passages in one language and trying to translate them into another one. it can be really relaxing, it has the same effect as doing a sudoku or crossword puzzle. it's just the right amount of challenging and soothing and also stretches your understanding of each language and may even reveal things about the meaning of the text you're translating! so if you wanna do something creative but feel kind of unmotivated, some light translating is a good way to go 👍

I am so tired of kids being shoved into my advanced classes that A) have no desire to be there or attempt the work B) do not have the SKILLS to be there and only passed the first level out of the kindness of my heart/modified curriculum C) have genuinely difficult personalities.

And just being told "there's nowhere else for them to go."

I haven't had a break from this prickly Mansplainer kid with Problems since last year. Guidance, you are killing me and what my program could be.

and I can't even complain to my supervisor anymore because that changed and she's married to our guidance counselor. UGHHHHHH
