PROLOGUE | OUT OF TOWNER Wednesday June 30th 1993, Astoria Oregon
The thrill was what got to her. The absolute freeing and exciting feeling of running off. The whole world was in her hands and she could do anything. Who knew what would happen next. Just the mystery and on edge her future seemed was enough to keep her foot on the gas and to continue driving with no map in her hands. Each road she passed was a split decision. A small grin tickled at the corner of her lips but didn't fully form because the thrill in her stomach was enough to make her sick and happy at the same time.
She had been driving for a while now. At least eight hours before she had loaded her car with anything she could think of bringing along. She was actually surprised the small white Volkswagen Bug could hold all the junk she had thrown into it. The sky was grey and drizzling raindrops all over the earth. As Estella admired the beauty of Mother Nature her stomach grumbled. She hadn't had the time to eat before her split second decision of leaving. Passing a small town sign she smiled knowing this was promising of a restaurant nearby. The town hit you all at once, lots of houses, and a whole bunch of different colors. Estella could see the small port down the end of the road and it somehow brought the little old town together.
As she got closer to the port she saw a sign for a little diner and let out a sigh of relief. Without hesitation she pulled into a parking space and grabbed her wallet. The inside was small and very old school but it gave off a warm welcoming feeling. There wasn't a lot of people inside, just two young boys sitting at the bar stools and an older gentleman off to himself in a booth. Estella took a seat on the opposite side of the bar from the boys and started to look at the menu as a blonde girl emerged wearing a pink waitress uniform.
"Can I get you anything?" she asked with a small smile. She had warm brown eyes and she stared into Estella's hazel ones with kindness.
"Um, I'll just have some French toast and bacon on the side. Oh and a glass of orange juice" the girl smiled as she wrote down the order and walked it back to the window. She gently clipped it to the carousel and spun it around so the cooks could get it. She watched as she moved to wipe the counter in front of the two boys and fall into conversation with them. Before she knew it the girl had returned and started wiping down the counter in front of her. Estella also couldn't help but notice the boys staring at her from across the bar.
"Is there something on my face? Those boys you were talking to over there are staring at me" she leaned and whispered to the blonde so they wouldn't hear. The blonde chuckled slightly and shook her head.
"No we just aren't used to out of towner's around here. Where you from?" she asked and Estella leaned back, thankful she wasn't losing her mind.
"Redding California" the blonde girls eyes widened. Rarely did they get the California sunshine type around the area. That was almost a nine hour drive too.
"So what's got you all the way out here?" the blonde asked as she grabbed the girls glass of orange juice and set it down.
"It would help if I knew where here was?" Estella told her and the blonde chuckled as it made sense how the girl had ended up in their small town.
"Well you're in the goon docks of Astoria Oregon of course" Estella furrowed her eyebrows as she recognized the name. Why did she recognize that name?
"Isn't this the small town that found that pirate treasure or something a few years back?" Estella finally questioned as the blonde grabbed her plate of quickly made food and set it in front of her.
"You're right, that story made our little town famous" she told her and Estella nodded as she thought of such a tale. She only remembered it because of how interesting and exciting it was when news broke out about the lost treasure. That wasn't the kind of thing that happened every day.
"Do you know the full story?" Estella asked and the blonde turned to the two boys sitting at the bar, sharing a look that Estella didn't quite understand.
"Yeah, back in 85 some kids called the Goonies found a map to One Eyed Willie's ship right off the coast through some hidden tunnels. The treasure they found saved half the town from being turned into a golf course. Put our little town on the map" Estella found a sense of comfort in the story and smiled.
"That's quite a story. No wonder your little town has a charm to it" and the blonde smiled at the unusual response from the girl which caused her to hold her hand out.
"I'm Stef, it's nice to meet you" she said and Estella quickly smiled and wiped her hands off with her napkin before placing it in hers.
"I'm Estella, it's nice to meet you too" the girls smiled at each other as they shook hands. Before either girl could speak they were cut off by a bellowing voice from a woman.
"Stef, who said you could take a break?" the two girls turned to face the plump woman as she descended the spiral staircase in the corner.
"Oh Ginny, there is no one here" Stef talked back as if she was still a child. The woman named Ginny found her way behind the counter wearing a uniform identical to Stef's.
"Oh really?" she said as she gestured to the two boys, Estella, and the gentleman just getting up to leave.
"Okay but none of them needed assistance at the moment" Ginny rolled her eyes and started to work amongst the counter.
"Clarke and Lawerence I swear you've been here all day. Time to get out, you finished eating an hour ago" she scolded the two boys across the counter from Estella.
"Aww Ginny we got nothing better to do than be here with you" the skinnier one said and she rolled her eyes at him.
"Yeah and I still want a milkshake" the other said and Ginny sighed.
"I swear you two come in here and cause trouble everyday, could I get a strawberry milkshake?" Ginny yelled to the back kitchen as Stef turned back to Estella.
"So you planning on staying and visiting for a bit?" she asked and Estella thought for a moment.
"Well I wasn't really planning on going anywhere so why not? I just needed someplace to get away" Estella answered and Stef smiled, excited at the idea of  anew face around here.
"Don't we all" Ginny piped up as she handed the milkshake to Lawerence and the girls laughed.
"Thanks Aunt Ginn" he replied as he immediately started sucking it down.
"Your welcome" she said just as the two boys began to stand.
"We're heading out but before we leave, I'm Mouth and this is Chunk, only the older folks round here call us by our real names" Clarke held a hand out to Estella and she smiled and accepted his handshake.
"I'm not old young man" Ginny scolded as she pointed at him and he laughed, the pair starting to walk away.
"Alright we best be going, see ya later babe" Mouth said as he leaned over and gave Stef a small kiss. Estella was a bit surprised but brushed it off quickly. As he pulled away he gave a small pat to Estella's shoulder and Chunk gave her a wave as they both exited the diner.
"If you plan on staying I might have to be careful. A pretty girl like you could send him running away" Stef said once they were gone and Estella went to respond and assure her of no trouble before Ginny spoke up.
"Oh please you've had that boy wrapped around your finger since you found that damn pirate treasure" and Stef looked to see the immediate shock that painted the new girls features. Estella looked at Stef and she gave a small chuckle.
"Surprise" she said and the two girls fell into joined laughter.
"That's so cool. So you found the treasure?" Estella asked and Stef shrugged and looked at Ginny.
"Not really, I was just along for the journey. There was one boy we wouldn't of done it without" she told her and Estella tilted her head, confused at the modesty that came from telling a story like that.
"Who was the boy?" Estella asked even though she couldn't possibly know who he was.
"Mikey Walsh"

This came to me in a vision when I was working last Friday
[Image ID: A triple venn diagram labeled "Beverlin" for the top circle, "Film Reroll Mouth/Data" for the left circle, and "Oakworthy" for the right circle. The yellow, just Beverlin circle reads "Kiss so powerful it opens a portal to another plane of existence." The pink, just Mouth/Data circle reads "We got X-men mutant powers by freak accident and I love my other friends, but now you're the only one who understands me." The blue, just Oakworthy circle reads "What if we were from rival schools? And our parents left the world in shambles for us to fix? And we were Will They/Won't They partners?" The orange overlap between Beverlin and Mouth/Data reads "Friends to lovers during a world-altering adventure." The indigo overlap between Mouth/Data and Oakworthy reads "Explosion/fire related injuries during the course of the adventure." i was listening to comfort crows last night and realised it was actually such a tara song so imma just dump my thoughts here cause no one else i know irl watched scream 😭
exhibit a:
This hurt that I'm holding's getting heavy But I'ma keep a smile on my shoulders 'til I'm sweaty Begging on my knees Screamin', "Someone come and help me" But by the time they're there I've already hid the body
literally encapsulates tara's coping mechanisms (in scream vi specifically) perfectly imo and also the allusions to death/dead body hits soooo well *chefs kiss*
exhibit b:
My breath's gettin' short and I'm unsteady Wellin' up in tears as I lay upon your belly Telling you I'm fine I don't really need nobody But you say through a sigh That I said that lie already
I just needed company now Yeah, I just needed someone around Yeah, I don't care what song that we play Or mess that we make Just company now Comfort crowd Comfort crowd
could see tara & sam that exact conversation (Telling you I'm fine... That I said that lie already), like when i heard those lyrics, i literally pictured them saying it in my mind. hits the perfect balance of tara being low-key obsessed with sam (and sam being obsessed right back) but also trying to push her away & being scared of sam leaving again. the abandonment/attachment issues really jumped out fr
exhibit c:
We rot, thinkin' lots about nothing Yeah, I could spend a lifetime Sitting here talkin' And even if I cry all over your body You don't really mind Say you like your shirt soggy
aaa can see sam saying that last line too. the vibes are immaculate i hope we get small sam&tara moments of them just hanging out (and maybe crying together) in scream 7 bc i eat that shit up
anywaysss sorry 4 rambling lmao just watched scream vi recently n could talk abt it foreverrrr plus im also a slut for conan gray sooooo. also love ur fic if i ever lost you i would lose myself pushed me straight into hyperfixation mode for sam&tara (fuck u & thank u 4 that lmaooooo)
I don't know what I expected Conan Gray to sound like, and yet it was not that. Anyway, added to the playlist.
Welcome to the brainrot :)

Terrible Visions
A scrambled timeline is a timeline that has proceeded much like ours, except that some particular facet has been mixed up all over the place. For example, in the scrambled timeline we will consider today, our world's fictional stories have been told by different people, and in different ways.
Bryan Lee O'Malley, in this alternate timeline, is best known as the cartoonist responsible for Homestuck, a popular comic series about a group of children who become embroiled in a cosmic-scale video game known as Sburb. Although Homestuck is probably most often associated with the cult classic Edgar Wright-directed film adaptation released in 2016, the comics themselves are highly-regarded, and the film brought a new audience to them. Netflix has commissioned an animated continuation, The Homestuck Epilogues, which is due to be released soon.
Andrew Hussie, on the other hand, is a figure you're likelier to know if you're overly online. His "MS Paint Adventures" series - most notably including Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which is kind of like Homestuck but weirder and hornier - have firmly remained a fixture of obsessive Twitter fandom culture. It doesn't help that the best-known iteration, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, is infamous for stretching thousands of pages of meandering digressions out of a simple and focused narrative starting point. Scott Pilgrim fans have developed something of a toxic reputation, which is not entirely deserved - although of course Knives discourse is interminable, and back in the fandom's heyday there were reportedly incidents of fans assaulting each other "for being evil exes".
Scott Pilgrim fandom was very big back in the day, though, and consequently it was a nexus for other creative figures who would go on to surpass Hussie. Perhaps foremost among these is indie developer Toby Fox. He was literally living in Hussie's basement when he produced ROSEQUARTZ, a universally-beloved retro Goonies-like RPG about a human hybrid boy born to a race of gem-based aliens. He's now developing an episodic spiritual successor, RAZORQUEST, with more overtly dark themes. It revolves around an inheritance dispute among a demon-summoning family.
Other foundational figures in this timeline's internet culture include Alison Bechdel, who helped get the webcomic scene started. Although she's now more seriously acclaimed for her personal memoirs, her gaming webcomic Press Start To Dyke, which premiered in 1998, was once everywhere. It had a broad appeal, and at its height, it was common to see even straight guys sharing pages from it. Time has not been especially kind to it, though, and at this point its main legacy is test.png, a meme spawned by one of the comic's most ill-advised pages.
Then there's John C. McCrae, more often known by his pseudonym Wildbow. A prolific and reclusive author of doorstopping "web serials" - long-form fiction published online - McCrae's best-known serial is still his first, Wind, a noir superhero story set in an alternate history where capes are mostly just a subculture of unpowered vigilantes. Wind landed in a culture already rife with comic book deconstructions, like Alan Moore's 2002 graphic novel Worm Turns, but it nonetheless managed to stand out from the pack with its extensive cast of characters and its themes of coordination problems and the end of the world. Later McCrae web serials include Part (the first "Otherverse" serial; an urban fantasy story about a couple who die in a car accident and find that they have become ghosts), Tear (a "biopunk" story set in a collapsing underwater city), Warn (the controversial Wind sequel), and Play (the second "Otherverse" serial, set in a small Indiana town that helps hide a psychic girl from the CIA).
Last and perhaps least, we should discuss J. K. Rowling. Far and away the most famous of any of these authors, Rowling's name is inseparable from the YA series that she debuted with, the Luz Noceda books, which remain her one successful work. Although it was heavily derivative of older fantasy novels - like Jill Murphy's Academy For Little Witches, or Philip Pullman's Methods Of Rationality trilogy - Luz Noceda was still a monumental and unprecedented success in the publishing industry, and the film adaptations were consistent blockbusters. The final book, Luz Noceda and the Watcher of Rain, contained some allusions to a romantic relationship between Luz and her recently-redeemed associate Amity. Rowling confirmed that this was her intent in subsequent interviews and indicated that she had fought her publishers for it; the film would then go on to escalate matters slightly further.
There have been many lengthy and heated online arguments as to whether the references in the book itself constitute text or mere subtext. Whatever your stance on this discourse, a new complication has been introduced recently: although she has put out no official statement on the matter as of yet, it has become quite apparent from Rowling's shrinking network of contacts and her conspicuous silences that she is certainly TERF-sympathetic, and likely an outright TERF herself. For many, this is leading to a critical reevaluation of the social values inherent in the Luz Noceda series; others, to say the least, are holding off on that kind of reappraisal.
Anyway, Scott Pilgrim just beat Luz Noceda in a Twitter poll for Most Gay Media, and people are piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed

I know you said the sources are unofficial but can you please let me know what they are?—the ones that suggest Mai may have helped Zuko in the aftermath of their mother's disappearance?
Oh, you mean when Ursa disappeared while Zuko was a kid?
This is old Forum Talk. Back in the day, when Livejournal thrived and there were individual message boards devoted to topics, you sometimes got little fandom discussions. Sometimes, you'd have people who talked to writers and crew members, whether in person or on message boards.
Also, you had some freelance or part-time writers who would be fans of the show would then be pulled into supplementary work. One of them was Alison Wilgus (writer on Kids Next Door, also, please don't go bothering her, this was ages ago, just trust me), and she helped co-write some of the comics for the Avatar magazine between Book 2 and 3.
The word is that there was a black, heart-shaped stone that Mai gave Zuko when he was feeling down (obviously, we can assume that it was probably when his mom vanished). He was supposed to reveal that he'd held onto it the whole time he was banished-- a cute little keepsake.
This was probably just a draft for the "Going Home Again" comic, and thus has no True Canon Power; something from supplemental information that Aaron provided, or that they brainstormed in a writer's room. They just wanted some way to show that Zuko was always thinking of Mai. But it probably became too difficult to justify him still having it after his whole ship blew up (IT WOULD RULE IF HE'D FOUND IT IN THE WRECKAGE THOUGH) and him going through all of his adventures...and it was just easier to have her play with Jin and express herself verbally.
Bottom line: it's a concept that could be canonized at any time, burt also may just be in the scrap heap with all sorts of things like Equalist Asami and....didn't someone have a sibling or something? Guy Toph, I guess, though that's more extreme.
Again, don't hunt 'em down or bother them. You've just gotta have some faith in me as a Fandom Elder. This is part of the writing process, part of fandom growth. Feel free to use it as fuel, though! Fanart. Fafic. Whatever you want. But overall, it's probably just deleted material that was considered to show connections and just couldn't be organically worked in. Would have added some weight to the end of the Boiling Rock episodes if we'd seen Zuko holding it--showing that he took it with him. But they kinda did a little too much ZK ship-baiting and leaned away from the Maiko melodrama (and I do think it was a little to the story's detriment, but that's My Opinion). This is all just part of the writing process, though...you've gotta find things to streamline.
It's also just easy to assume that Mai probably got closer to Zuko after Ursa's disappearance. Whether through hugs and comfort or just bullying him a little harder to keep his mind off things. Becoming a proper Nemesis. Who knows?
And that's just what I picked up. For all I know, there was a whole deleted plotline where Mai and Zuko fell down a hole or something. Did a Fire Nation Goonies. Again. That's writing. You gotta come up with Stuff and sometimes the Stuff doesn't Stick. Asami was supposed to hook up with Iroh Jr. in early drafts. Things change. Have fun. Life's short.

Skeleton Crew thoughts?
And I'm just calling it now, Jude Law's character is a fallen Jedi
Oh, my guess is that he's not a Jedi at all, rather a roguish conman with Force-sensitivity (who might turn out to be just another selfish smuggler in the third act).
Overall, doesn't look like I'm the intended audience for this thing. Never watched The Goonies, or Stranger Things, and I'm in my late 20s, so I'm probably gonna give this a cursory glance to stay in the loop and that's it.
Honestly, that's my reaction to most new Star Wars stuff: ambivalence.
I never manage to get myself to a point of "anger", when it comes to bad Star Wars content. Ambivalence at most. "X is a movie/show that exists" or something along those lines.
Maybe the exception would be the recent comic adaptations Lucasfilm puts out, like the Larrocca-drawn Kenobi miniseries. What gets me there sometimes is idiotic fandom stuff.
Like terrible takes on Twitter.
And like most of Star Wars Theory's videos. One of them had me rage-typing a (surprisingly well-broken down) post that will forever linger in my "Drafts" because 1) im pretty sure nobody on Tumblr knows who that is anyway and 2) it's embarassing to acknowledge that some dude talking about a fictional universe in a stupid way gets me triggered to write a post with sections.
But overall, y'know... it's a fictional story. If you're getting mad about it, you're missing the point about one of the major themes.

Hello, it's me. Mr. Horror or you can call me Pringle. We talked very briefly on a YouTube short. I just want to say fuck you. Nah I am not sugar coating this or being professional, realize that you are an awful person, proshiping or make NSFW art of a real man. YES MARTIN GREYWHINDER IS A REAL GUY AND HIS NAME IS BATTINGTON. YOU ARE DISGUSTING. Oh I know it's not just you, I could name others but you particular, you like some weird specimen. It's more disappointing that you are 26 years old and making this type of stuff, "Oh but it took it down and the draws just for me." YOUR STILL MAKING ART OF A REAL MAN AND YOU STILL POSTED ART AFTER YOU WERE CALLED OUT FOR IT. NOT TO MENTION YOU STALKED ONE OF MY FRIENDS FOR 7 MONTHS WITH YOUR LITTLE GOONIES. EVEN IF YOU HAD BAD MENTAL HEALTH, YOUR ACTIONS STILL HAVE CONSEQUENCES AND YOU KNEW THESE WERE BAD BUT YOU KEPT POSTING AND PLAYING THE VICTIM WHILE YOU STALKED A TEENAGER WHILE YOUR 20 SOMETHING YEARS OLD.
You are a great disappointment coming from a child that 10 years younger than you but I have common fuckin sense not to post these nasty things. I know you're jealous of one of my friends, how successful they are with the creator of Harmony & Horror while he blocked your ass, that shows how much of a terrible person you are. Not to mention how much you are disliked by the harmony & horror fandom, even before you made your fan art people have a bad vibe from you, they knew your trouble before you even became a disgusting human being. Oh my evidence? Here.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU PROSHIP. YOU'RE MAKING A CHARACTER RELIVE THE SAME TRAUMA AS YOU, HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT HELP YOU COPE? YOU'LL BE JUST AS BAD AS THE ABUSER.

The Rules
This is a winner-stays-on tournament, so don't expect any brackets. Every week (or whenever the mod remembers), a new contender will be put up against the current champion (which will be listed in the blog's description). If it wins, it becomes the new champion! If not, then the old champion remains until something beats it. In the case of a tie, the contender failing to beat the champion will be counted as a loss, and the champion will move on. There is no set end date for the tournament, and it is intended to continue indefinitely.
Submissions can be sent in here. Submissions sent to the ask box will not be counted. There is space to add propaganda and media if you wish to. There are no restrictions on what can be submitted. The next contender will be randomly selected from the current pool of submissions, though repeat contenders will have to wait a few weeks before they can re-challenge again.

Not a Wednesday but a WIP! lol
I wanted to share some writing for a while but with my main projects I'm on a strict "no snippets, no spoilers, no sharing publicly" until approximately February next year, so I can't share that 3 complete oneshots I wrote for CL fandom. But I've been working on fics for other fandoms too — less successfully but it is what it is.
So, this one is Greatmage in Strixhaven AU. I have very mixed feelings about this, to be completely honest, so any early reviews/critique are extremely appreciated.
I intend to make it a oneshot collection where each fic it's a separate story but all of them are in continuous timeline. Don't have final title yet, the beta versions are "The Paladin. The Sorcerer." and "The weave keeps bringing us together".
This one was intended as a 2nd or 3rd oneshot in a series, where Gareth and El have already met in passing, but haven't really interacted before. However I haven't introduced El in this snippet yet (it's more focused on Gareth and a bit less on Eddie).
About 1.2k words under the cut:
When Gareth heard that they got a scheduled practicum in the infirmary as part of their class, he was excited at first. He was always ready to give a helping hand to someone who needed it (except for Carver and his goonies didn't count — they were a menace to the whole university), and healers, who worked on Strixhaven grounds, fascinated him since his first year, when (…. some accident). Of course, his upbringing was mostly focused on combat — but how good is the paladin who can't heal an injured teammate in the battle? So after their Life Auras and Necrosis professor,… said they'll spend a few hours per tenday volunteering at the infirmary and helping with the patients, he was thrilled. It was a great practice for the future of slaying real monsters — or, at the very least, a good practice for their Live-Action Roleplaying Guild meetings. Unsurprising amounts of younger students were getting minor injuries while hanging out in Segemoor outside of limiting passageways and bridges of the Witherbloom campus; a surprising amount of older students from their club didn't have any first aid skills, let alone any healing spells in their arsenal. And, apparently, they had a surprisingly absent sense of self-preservation too.
Gravelly boring and quiet shift in the infirmary — following the assigned healer around, helping to restock the supplies, updating some medical charts by controlling a quill with a spell while his hands were full of other stuff — was abruptly cut when sickly pale Eddie, supported by some Lorehold student from his year, came to see the healers.
When they explained what happened, Gareth was not impressed, to say the least.
“And you just drank it?!” hissed Gareth. “Eddie, you can't be that stu… No, cross this out” he mumbled, giving directions to the mage hand spell. The quill, which was floating above the paper in the grip of an invisible hand, crossed out the last sentence. Gareth hoped he wouldn't get in trouble for corrections on the medical card he was instructed to fill in. He cleared his throat and continued — Despite the signs of an incorrectly brewed potion, such as wrong shade and consistency, the patient drank it anyway. Observed symptoms: pale skin, nausea, vomiting…
“Oh Gareth Arthur, the son of Emmer, will you show mercy to the humble bard…” dramatically proclaimed Eddie, stopped abruptly, and puked in the bucket. Gareth was glad that he thought about setting it up as he saw his sick friend cross the threshold of the infirmary. If he had to clean up this mess, he would choose much stronger expressions, that's for sure.
“Stop writing,” he commanded to the quill and sighted. “I have no idea how you managed to mess up a simple flu concoction, Edward Munson,” he teased his friend and smiled a tiny bit as he saw his best friend wincing (Eddie hated his full name with passion), “but you're clearly not dying, so…”
“Gareth, you can't be that grudgy after I killed your character in the last game! I was playing the owlbear, I couldn't just mercy you because we're friends!”
“But you didn't have to push me face down into the mud,” said Gareth, though he was smiling. “Hold on here, I need to consult with the professor before I can treat any patients.”
“Oh come on, I know you've learned that spell that,” Eddie stopped and vomited into the bucket again. Gareth politely waited, “that helps with the poisoning! You helped Jeff when that strange scorpion bit him during the game.”
“I do,” confirmed Gareth, ready to leave Eddie on the hospital bed behind the curtains, “but it's not our game club session, it's part of my class practicum and I have a protocol to follow. I don't want to get a lower mark just because you're puking farther than you can see. I am going to help you, just… Maybe think about your life choices for a minute?”
He quickly left, searching for the healer he was assigned to. Technically, Gareth's shift was almost over — it was early morning, and he was supposed to go to classes, — but he couldn't leave his friend behind without making sure he was okay (even if Gareth was, a tiny bit, mad at Eddie). However, he wasn't sure if his mentor was still working, or if she went to instruct the next apprentice. Maybe she took a break? Once again, he was disappointed that he didn't get a spot at a different infirmary on campus. Not every college had one locally — Witherbloom had one, since animals and beasts wandered on campus territory, located in the middle of the forest, and Lorehold college opened a small infirmary since they resumed the excavation near the campus, as many artifacts they found wasn't necessarily safe. The one on the central campus, however, was the largest, with multiple healers working in shifts day and night, unlike other infirmaries, that were normally opened while classes were in session, or if some major event was going on. Originally Gareth was a bit disappointed that he didn't get his training assignment in the Witherbloom's infirmary, mostly because they normally had to deal with more dangerous — and therefore more interesting — injuries. And, of course, because they had more convenient working hours, unlike the infirmary on the central campus, where he was assigned to an early morning shift, just before classes started. Luckily, his club meetings and band performances didn't interfere with his practicum yet: staying up late and waking up at dawn would be too much. But right now Gareth was annoyed at the sheer size of that infirmary — it was a giant wide hall with a dome-like ceiling, made of light stone, with multiple smaller chambers attached to the main area: alchemists workstations, storage rooms, healers' breakrooms and what not. Finding a specific person here wasn't quick.
“Maybe I should've helped Eddie first, and fuck the protocol,” thought Gareth grimly. He even mastered the courage to look into some rooms and distract those few people he found working, but they either didn't know where the healer DeSantos went or just shooed him away. He wondered if she just left for breakfast — the tavern on central campus should've opened for the day, — and forgot to tell Gareth what he's supposed to do. After all, it was his first day helping at the infirmary. And despite his sharp tongue, Gareth knew when to be observant and quiet (if he wanted, of course) — unlike Eddie, who in four years here got more detention hours than all the other guys from his club, combined. Faculty even wanted to remove him from the position of club's head, but everybody protested and said they wouldn't accept anybody else in this position. But maybe today Gareth was too quiet, silently following healer DeSantos and doing all the tasks. He wanted to make the best impression — Gareth liked the idea of this practicum after all, — but maybe releasing a bunch of pests (these voracious caterpillar-like tiny chunky monstrosities, that were, for whatever reason, the Witherbloom's college mascots) would be more… memorable. At least he wouldn't end up in this situation, where the person who was supposed to boss him around just, apparently, forgot about his existence and left.
Maybe most of the staff left for breakfast, actually. The building was surprisingly quiet — in fact, significantly quieter than a mere hour ago.
“Hey! Somebody? Anybody?” called a vaguely familiar voice from the infirmary's entrance, sounding more and more annoyed with each word.
