I might have said this before in the past but as Andor Season 2 approaches I want to say that I really like the theme of “climbing” in Season 1. Each arc ends with Cassian literally ascending. In the Ferrix arc in the premiere he and Luthen are escaping the planet while at the same time in the flashbacks Maarva is “saving” him from Kenari and her and Clem escape the incoming Republic ship. In the second arc Nemik (Rest in Peace) literally tells him to “Climb!” Through the Eye of Aldhani. You can hear the prisoners telling Cassian and each other to “climb” as they escape Narkina 5.

The exception being in the finale where Cassian is the one who tells Bix, Brasso, and B2EMO to “fly until you’re over the water, then *climb*.”

All throughout S1 he meets people who physically and metaphorically lift him up, and by the end he’s the one raising up his loved ones while he goes to join the Rebellion.

And, of course, “Climb!” Is the last thing K-2SO says to Cassian before he dies on Scarif.

i’m back and finishing episode four and sinking into despair etc etc

but! what struck me this time as the ISB officer tells meero to, essentially, cool her jets a second, is that the conversation is similar to the older officer telling karn the same, and so is the elder-to-younger of it

in both cases i’m struck that the older officers will have lived under the republic and now the empire, which is already being threatened by rebellion, and keep your head down is a viable strategy for an incoming third regime change, you know?

it makes me think of the dynamic of luthen and cassian being the reverse of this. when we meet him, cassian is ostrich-deep in that head down strategy, and it’s luthen who reaches in and yanks him out. because luthen is old enough to know that regimes only change when you topple them.

and it’s about mmm it’s about it the contrast in who makes history and who weathers it, i guess.

finally rewatching the Area Man (gender neutral; plural) Makes One Bad Decision After Another Show, because that’s what 2025 requires of me

like come ON. he’s too pretty and damaged for this nonsense. sure he shot that guy in the face but even the guy’s boss didn’t give a fuck.
