Skywalkers Apart AU thought of Cal being teen Leia’s celebrity crush but instead of boyband posters or magazine pages like irl it’s his wanted posters.
They finally meet Cal and Cal barely notices her because holy kriff he’s talking to Anakin fucking Skywalker
LOL that's fun but if you change one letter in the name, it's even MORE fun

I don’t think this scene has been talked about enough(or even at all.) To me it’s very telling that Leida looks to Mon in this scene. The entire show she’s been a rebellious/spoiled teen trying to stick it to her mom anyway she can. Leida always makes it clear that she prefers Perrin because he lets her do whatever she wants and makes Mon out to be the villain. Yet when all is said and done and she’s meeting her potential future husband she turns to Mon, not Perrin. It’s hard to read her face, but there’s no malice, no spite, and she turns back just as soon as she looked over. I think that all Leida wants is for her mother to see her, to be proud of her. I’ve worked with kids my whole life and despite what they say, they always gravitate to the parents/teachers/counselors/guardians who enforce (healthy) boundaries, who don’t let them get away with anything and everything. A lot of her actions are clearly a desperate grab for Mon’s attention. The fact that Leida glances at Mon and then Mon glances at Leida right after pretty much sums up their relationship. Both looking when the other person is turned away, always just missing each other’s gaze. I hope Mon takes sometime to reach out to her daughter before it’s too late. I hope Leida can start to wake up and escape this mindset in the next season. I hope she turns to her mother in full and reaches out for help. I hope that one day, the stars align and their gazes finally connect and leads to them finally understanding each other as mother and daughter. I hope they finally meet each other’s gaze before it’s too late.

Thinking about Mon in Leia, Princess of Alderaan, and how Leia looks up to her as a mentor figure, as the one adult who takes her seriously and trusts her with the business of rebellion, as the person who sees her as the grown woman she's on the cusp of becoming and not the child her parents still want to protect. To Leia, it's a beautiful relationship, a source of comfort and strength. Thinking about Mon in Andor, two years earlier, and how she never knew how to connect with her own daughter, never trusted her own daughter, sold her own daughter into a child marriage to support the Rebellion's goals. And I wonder: what does Mon see, when she looks at Leia? Leia, or the shadows of what her relationship with Leida might have been?

Have you ever think that if the new Reign of the Empire trilogy, mostly it's first book, is set shortly or exactly after Revenge of the Sith we are going to see, maybe, Mon Mothma go through pregnancy, the war can be over, but the new Sith empire is worst than the past war, the senate is just the shell of what it once was, going through a pregnancy, labor and motherhood with a man you don't love and who doesn't support you while also trying to get things done at the senate is literally the most exausting and cruel thing I have ever listen. Anyways, I'm so excited to see even more deep into her character, maybe her past, her thoughts, what she had to deal and do on the daily basis to stop a facist machine

Leida Mothma and the struggle for identity
Mon Mothma says about her daughter Leida practicing traditions: "It's weird. It's stronger here than it is at home." And I can't stop thinking about Leida Mothma and her portrayal as a very privileged yet uprooted kid with a migrant background being unusually traditional.
Growing up away from the culture and the people she is supposed to be part of, is challenging and confusing. It is hard to find identity as a teenage migrant, culture and personal access to her people's traditions when removed from it. And it is not surprising that Leida seeks out the most overt and uncomplicated access she can find to her culture and heritage, even if those are conservative and regressive. Those practices are a lifeline for her, simply because she has or knows of no other options.
As someone with a fairly similar background IRL I sympathise deeply with her character. It is a failure of the society she lives in to include her as she is in a way, that would not drive her into dogmatic traditionalism for identity. And it is worryingly normal for kids to feel like they have to hyper-conform in one way or another to have access to their migrant families background or the societal expectations of the place they live in now. It's as if we still haven't figured out how to be inclusive of those we don't understand. And the most vulnerable are the collateral of that.
