Weekend Top Ten #563
Top Ten Moments in The Transformers’ Lost Light Saga
I’ve written about Transformers a lot on here. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t the single thing I’d written blogs about the most (followed by the MCU and then, I dunno, probably Hey Duggee). It’s the biggest “thing” in my life – the media franchise I enjoy and engage with the most. And I’ve definitely ranked favourite moments before. But I wanted to return to it – yet again – for a couple of reasons.
2012 marks the ten-year anniversary of my favourite run of Transformers, across its entire nearly-forty-year history: the comics More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light. These comics, written by James Roberts in collaboration with several artists (but predominantly Alex Milne and Jack Lawrence), tell one epic tale of friendship, tragedy, comedy, political discourse, allegory, and references to obscure British pop culture. As it happens, I’ve re-read the entire series whilst on tour with the BBC, so it’s all fresh in my mind; also another reason to revisit it in a list.
There’s another, kinda serendipitous reason to look back over IDW’s time with Transformers. This week just gone, the last ever Transformers book published by IDW was released. It is, I think, sixteen years since they first had the licence, and the breadth of great comics they’ve produced – from the first Infiltration series by Simon Furman and EJ Su to the most recent continuity written by Brian Ruckley, by way of MTMTE, Robots in Disguise, Furman and Andrew Wildman continuing their nineties G1 run in Regeneration One, and the recent sort-of-not-in-continuity Last Bot Standing by Nick Roche and – him again – EJ Su – is remarkable. It’s a hell of a run, the best the franchise has ever been handled by one company. No film, no animated series, no other published comics come close for me. How the merry hell do they follow this?
For the first time, though, I’m singling out one specific arc – the Lost Light Saga, for want of a better title (I would also consider “Sad Gay Robots in Space”) – and just picking the best bits. I’m also doing deep on why they’re the best. And I’m going to try to say where you can find this great bit of a great comic!
This is a celebration. I want that to come through. I hope that when all is said and done – and this might end up being my last word on the Lost Light – that the myriad reasons why I adore this series is evident. The nuance of the writing, the fidelity of the artwork, the breadth of the allusion, the comedy, pathos, empathy, sadness, love. It’s a masterful piece of work that had me tearing up multiple times, sometimes over bits that I didn’t remember or that just didn’t hit me first time round.
Also, y’know, spoilers. I’ll put a break in. But if you do want to enjoy the saga in its entirety, maybe don’t read this list. Buy the paperbacks, get it on Kindle, scour your local comic shop for back issues. And then maybe you’ll join me in wishing happy birthday to the greatest iteration of my favourite franchise.
And I really want to emphasise that. Transformers really is my thing. it was the first cartoon and comic I fell in love with. It’s remained more important to me than, say, Star Wars or the MCU, or other childhood loves like Ghostbusters, Turtles, and even my beloved orange meatball with stripes, Garfield. Transformers is really the only thing I can see myself going to conventions for on the reg, a thing that just speaks to me, that I get unequivocally nerdy about. I wouldn’t say it’s like a religion but it probably occupies the same irreducible part of my soul that, like all the cultural bits of Catholicism, will never leave me, no matter what. And all of that – the length and breadth of it, the joys and sorrows, the heart and soul – my favourite bit of Transformers are these comics. I think I’ve said it before, but they achieved something.
“Don’t change back”: the arc of Megatron becoming an Autobot was one of those it’ll-never-work things that did work, and it worked so damn well. It became an examination of corruption and ideology and self-determinism and, well, the nature of tyranny, but also guilt and acceptance. Megatron, now a determined pacifist, is compelled back to violence to defend his new friends, but in doing so slaps a Decepticon badge over his Autobot one. When the dying Ravage – always sceptical and disapproving of his former boss’s change to the red team – notices, he reaches his hand out to touch the badge and says “don’t change back”. Back to what? Back to being an Autobot? Or back to being a Decepticon? These were his last words, and we’ll never know what they mean. And I really need to underline, Ravage is one of my favourite characters, and this is how he died. It just helps to underline the massive schism in Megatron’s psyche, his own continued self-doubt, the betrayal his former friends now feel, and – yes – his continued guilt. Quite how this ridiculous plot thread, imposed upon the writer by the publisher, turned into the cornerstone and most compelling element of the entire run is just exceptional writing and character work.
“Even Team Whirl”: this is two-fold because it’s a great moment and a call-back. The first time we see Whirl he’s about to kill himself. He’s filled with self-loathing because he’s been abused and mistreated, he’s a violent loner who’s alienated all his friends, and because he might have started the war in the first place. He’s a horrible person who we don’t really like but very slowly we grow to love him as he opens up. And then when Rodimus gives to inspire everyone he includes Whirl – “even Team Whirl” he says – and Whirl does seem to notice. Then, at the very end, Whirl has enough self-belief in his own latent goodness that he can open the Matrix, saying to himself “Even… Team… Whirl…”. So it’s partly the story of Whirl’s redemption and how he learns to believe in himself, and also a story about how Rodimus is just a cool guy and super-inspiring.
“Goodnight, little one”: after Getaway grooms and gaslights Tailgate, he outlines the four steps a Transformer takes to codify their relationship (basically, wedding vows). Tailgate is rescued by Cyclonus, but as they’re pinned down by security forces, we see the four steps play out again: actions that Cyclonus has taken over the years – instinctively, selflessly, without thinking – that prove how much he’s always loved Tailgate. It’s a heartbreaking encapsulation of their relationship when Tailgate realises all of this, realises Cyclonus is the right one after all. Then Cyclonus is shot to pieces.
“Megatron was able to open it when you couldn’t…”: might need a bit of explaining this, but the whole saga ends with the team opening multiple Matrixes (Matrices?) at the same time. Except they only open if you feel like you deserve to open them, that you’re good enough. Throughout, Rodimus has been an egocentric do-gooder who wants everyone to think he’s ace; that he’s a true Prime, essentially. He opens his Matrix effortlessly. But later he tells a court that he couldn’t open it, but Megatron could; he lies to the universe to try to get them to pardon the guy who started the war and once tried to kill him. This evolution of their relationship and his own personality is so beautifully sad and, ultimately, heroic. Like a true Prime.
“I love you”: why are so many of these sad? Despite what I said about Tailgate and Cyclonus, the defining relationship of the series is Chromedome and Rewind. One can read people’s minds by injecting their skulls; the other is constantly recording everything and saving the footage to a vast database. When Rewind dies, Chromedome wants to remove the memories of his dead love from his own mind; but a recording by Rewind, spliced together from dozens of different videos, leaves him a beautiful but tragic message from beyond the grave, culminating in three very simple words. Chromedome decides not to wipe his own mind.
“Remember me as I was”: one of the best long-running arcs in the series was the frequent flashbacks to old Cybertron (we’ll see more of this later). The mysterious, unnamed senator who befriended Orion Pax – with his vibrant, ever-changing colour scheme and propensity for emotional outbursts – is a mysterious and slightly sinister character. What’s his game? Is he grooming Orion? And then as the real sinister villains take over, the scale of the senator’s punishment is horrific and severe and we discover that his face, hands, and entire personality has been irrevocably altered, and he was in fact the cold, emotionless, logical Shockwave, one of the most notorious Decepticons. It’s a terrific origin for a popular character, suitably shocking and unexpected; a great twist.
“We’re going to steal the Matrix”: still back in the past for this, another classic cliffhanger ending. After establishing Orion Pax as the supercop who can’t be stopped, we have a number of plot threads converge as the scale of the evil Cybertronian Senate and the sinister, fascistic Functionists becomes apparent. Knowing what must be done, Orion hatches a simple but impossible plan: steal the Matrix. It turns a flashback mystery-cum-character piece into, all of a sudden, a Cybertronian heist movie; Orion’s Eleven. And it is, of course, excellent.
“It happened off-panel”: it’s a funny book, this, and sometimes you just need a good gag. I was tempted to include the Holiday Special and its “Contrivance Engine”, but really my favourite of the Red Dwarf-style silly sci-fi gags is the Meta-Bomb – “it blows a hole in the fourth wall”. Swerve – comic relief with a tragic backstory – presses it and instantly becomes a sort of metafictional narrator, semi-outside of the narrative, not quite Deadpool but a step removed. The fact that this gag, making use of and fun of the comics medium, is great in and of itself is one thing; but it also sets up further developments down the road. And that’s the funny thing about comedy; the banter and the gags makes you fall in love with the characters, so when a writer twists the knife it hurts that much more.
“Tell Whirl he can have my hands”: Ratchet is a grumpy doc with a heart of gold, but it’s the grumpiness that comes to the fore more often. His Spock/McCoy banter with Drift is a solid part of the story’s early years, and one would be forgiven for thinking Ratchet was a hard, flinty sort. But when the chips are down – faced with a rampaging Overlord and certain death – he doesn’t flinch for a second, defending the needy and immediately barking orders, bestowing favours and generosity. Whirl’s loss of hands and the abuse that loss signifies is a great weight on his soul, and instantly Ratchet offers to alleviate that. It’s so fast, so instant a thought, that its generosity takes me by surprise.
“It’s not funny at all. It’s tragic”: we end where we began, with Megatron’s redemption, and once again with a fashback narrative – here Megatron talking via a sort of time travel phone with not-Optimus-yet Orion Pax. Pax, assuming he’s talking to the Megatron of his own time, is a big fan of his future foe, wants to get him to join the fight; Megatron, speaking from the future, drops a couple of cryptic references to their eventual animosity. There are shades of Macbeth or Milton’s Satan when he says he couldn’t turn back now even if he wanted to, but he acknowledges he will join Pax “eventually”. Tragic doesn’t cover it.
There we are then. I don’t know what else to say. I’m sad it’s over but I’m happy it happened. We achieved something. Oh boy.

Looking Ahead to 2024
With the new year finally here, I thought this would be a good time to list the films I am most excited about coming to theaters in 2024. So I present the films I am most excited about coming out this year (in alphabetical order):
Ballerina
Spinning out of the John Wick films comes this action thriller starring Ana de Armas that takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.
Beetlejuice 2
Apparently, it took 36 years for someone to say his name three times because Beetlejuice is back! Tim Burton directs the sequel starring original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara and joined by new addition Jenna Ortega.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
I'll be honest, I really liked Beverly Hills Cop III and am disappointed we never got to see the 2013 CBS pilot about Axel Foley's son. Count me in for the fourth film coming to Netflix this year.
Deadpool 3
The lone Marvel Studios film coming in 2024 is a continuation of the Fox Deadpool series. But with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, this one is one to watch.
Dune: Part Two
Return to Arrakis with director Denis Villeneuve for this adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Originally slated for a late 2023 release, it is finally coming this year.
The Fall Guy
Ryan Gosling is a stuntman turned investigator in this action comedy, based on a 1980s TV series, co-starring Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Anya Taylor-Joy is Furiosa in this origin story focused on Charlize Theron's character from Fury Road.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The Splenger kids are back in this sequel to 2021's Afterlife (and the fourth film in the Ghostbusters series).
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
While this may be two films, let's count it as one. Coming this year is Kevin Costner's epic Western Horizon. And don't forget, Costner has plans for four Horizon films.
IF
John Krasinski writes and directs this fantasy comedy starring Ryan Reynolds as a man who can see people's imaginary friends.
Joker: Folie a Deux
Joaquin Phoenix returns as the Joker is joined by Lady Gaga has Dr. Harleen Quinzel in this sequel to 2019's award-winning Joker.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Guy Ritchie directs Henry Cavill in this action spy film about the British black ops during WWII.
Twisters
As a huge fan of 1996's Twister, I am ready for more. More twisters.
Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story
Is 2024 the year we finally see Jerry Seinfeld's film about the origins of Pop-Tarts for Netflix? I sure hope so.
Wolfs
Jon Watts writes and directs this psychological action-thriller starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
Honorable Mention (films not mentioned above): Argylle, Madame Web, Drive-Away Dolls, Road House, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Abigail, Civil War, Challengers, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Inside Out 2, Bad Boys 4, The Bikeriders, A Quiet Place: Day One, Project Artemis, Alien: Romulus, Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3, Alto Knights, Red One, Gladiator 2, Wicked: Part One, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Nosferatu.
Now for a quick look ahead to 2024, my top picks for that year are Avatar 3, The Batman - Part II, Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic Four, Mission: Impossible 8, Superman: Legacy, and any of the above-mentioned films that get bumped to 2025.
Looking back at the 15 films on my Looking Ahead to 2023 list from last year: I saw 13 in theaters, one was bumped to 2024 and is included above, and one I didn't get a chance to see yet thanks to the flu. (sorry Wonka).

List 7 comfort movies and tag 7 people
((i don't know many people because I'm kind of new to this))
I tagged myself @blingblong55 Thank you 🌱❤️🩹
#1 movie: Transformers 4: Age of Extinction
In the movie Transformers 4, Age of Extinction, Marco was the one who made me learn that not everything lasts forever, there will be betrayals in life, there will be changes that make it possible.Possibly you are not prepared but we will have to live them, including protecting your family and friends for fear of losing more people than lovers in your life. That taught him a lot and learning to trust in Those of you who really trust that experience happened to me once.
10/ 100000000 Infinitely I am faithful to the Transformers without sacrifice there is no victory
#2 Ghostbusters First and second
The ghostbusters movie is my favorite movie, I don't have many words that remind me of my childhood.
100/190000
#3 Ice Age (the entire saga)
The Ice Age movie brings me a lot of nostalgia since it is my favorite childhood movie since I watched it since I was a child. I even watched it with my family lt taught me many things that I always enjoyed I am grateful to have friends as family, what I really need in my life.
#4 the strange world of jack
The movie The Strange World of Jack brings me a lot of nostalgia since I saw it since my childhood.
#5 the treasure planet
The movie Treasure Planet was also a nostalgia from my childhood since it was very mature for me, even though it is for children, it made me feel as if I were in another reality.
#6 spiderverse (the first 1)
The first Spiderverse movie filled me with fun, and I would even say the same as Treasure Planet.
#7 returns are not accepted
This one made me cry from the beginning and end of the movie, the phrase that marked me was "I will always carry with me the memory of the two greatest loves of my life:The first taught me how to be prepared to face life and the second taught me how to face life without being prepared. And from there the two continue to teach me how to face life without them. That phrase was when my paternal grandparents died, my dogs died and the one who made me face life the most without being prepared was my dad because he died. Three years ago when I was twelve years old, now I find that phrase meaningful, that's why I love that movie.
((No labels no pressure)) : @archiviststar @maccaronimassacre They are the only ones I know 😅
List 7 comfort films and tag 7 people:
I was tagged by the always ever-awesome @missoliverstark Thanks, hon!
Twilight
Hey, man, don't judge me. 😐
😂 I can't explain it but, if I'm stressed out, I can put on the first Twilight and just chill. It is what it is. 🤷♀️
2. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Technically, the entire trilogy fits the bill but I've literally seen Fellowship several hundred times by now. I bought the Special Edition DVD set for Fellowship before I even owned a DVD player, lol! I eventually got to the point where I could not only recite the English dialogue, I could recite the Elvish as well. This movie has been burned into my brain and I wouldn't have it any other way. 🤗
3. The Mummy (1999)
I'm not saying I've watched this movie a lot but... well, I wore out my VHS copy. The image literally faded out in places. It's one of the few, if possibly only movies that I own in 3 formats: VHS, DVD and Blu-ray. Considering how much I adore it, I'm floored that I've never actually vidded it yet. Oh well, there's still time; I mean, an Ardeth Bay tribute to "I'm Sexy and I Know It" would totally work, right? 😇
4. Ladyhawke
This one has proved redonkulously hard to find a decent transfer on DVD or Blu-ray, so I haven't seen it in ages. That said, it's another I watched SO many times on VHS and it's definitely one of the formative movies of my life. 😍
5. Beauty and the Beast
I enjoyed the live action version as well but I'll give it to the classic animated version for this reply because I've seen it more. 🤗
6. Godzilla vs Kong
Okay, so is a giant radioactive lizard and a giant gorilla beating the stuffing out of each other supposed to be a comfort movie? Probably not but it's just one I enjoy watching when I want to kinda chillax, so... 🤷♀️😂😉
7. Star Wars
Technically, Empire Strikes Back is the one of the original trilogy I tend to default to but I've seen A New Hope and Return of the Jedi a lot as well. Any of them just takes me back to a simpler time as well as reminds me where my love of fictional scoundrels comes from. 😉
Honorable mentions:
TRON/TRON Legacy, Labyrinth, Terminator/T2: Judgment Day, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Warm Bodies. Yes, I have weird tastes and odd ideas as to what makes a comfort movie, lol! 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️😉
No pressure tags: @coleishere @ghostslillady @authortobenamedlater @mrtobenamedlater @sarnakhwritesthings @helplessdreamersworld @fandomdancer @brianllama
And yes, I lost count but who even cares, right? 😛😂 Also, if you're reading this and would like to share your comfort movies, I'd absolutely love for you to! Please accept this as an official tag from me! *boops your nose politely* 💖🤗

The Karate Kid Part III We’ll Never See
https://ift.tt/3Hlcifq
Cobra Kai continues to effectively mine the long-dormant characters and continuity of The Karate Kid film franchise. The strategy has yielded a successful series that basks in the built-in nostalgia of those old enough to recall the films’ heyday, and even fosters a new generation of fandom. However, the show’s fourth season taps into 1989’s The Karate Kid Part III with the heralded return of villain Terry Silver—a controversial callback, seeing as that film remains widely maligned. Interestingly, a radically different third entry was originally envisioned, one that would have taken the trilogy into time-travel territory.
If the teasers for Cobra Kai Season 4, which ominously tout Silver’s return—made 32 years later by Thomas Ian Griffith—left you in need of context regarding its importance, you were hardly alone. After all, the film, in which Silver served as main villain, was a dud, and the least-watched of the original Karate Kid Trilogy. One could fault that failure to a hopeless summer 1989 box office battle against iconic competition from Batman and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and momentum drained by lingering money-makers Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ghostbusters II. Yet, Part III was also branded as an uninspired retread of the original, which made it missable. However, franchise creator Robert Mark Kamen, who wrote the entire trilogy, initially pitched it as a prequel of sorts in which Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi are—in a surprising supernatural twist for a reality-grounded franchise—whisked back to 16th century China, immersed in a tale centered on the origins of Miyagi-Do karate.
“I [initially] turned down doing Karate Kid III because I wanted to do something different,” revealed Kamen in a 2012 interview with Crave Online. “I wanted to have them flash back to 16th century China and do a historical flying people movie. I wanted to do a Hong Kong Kung Fu movie.”
Contextually, the seemingly-incompatible pairing of the intrinsically-Japanese martial art of karate and air-whirling wuxia genre kung-fu films stems back to exposition from 1984’s The Karate Kid, in which Miyagi explains (factually) to Daniel how karate came from China in the 16th century; a tale that was expounded in 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II, in which Miyagi further reveals how Miyagi-Do, specifically, was the result of an accidental Okinawan fishing trip in 1625, in which his ancestor, Shimpo, fell asleep as his boat drifted to the coast of China. There, he would start a family and learn the defense-centric martial art that would become Miyagi-Do. Thus, it would appear that Kamen had designs to have the backstory foreshadow what would have been lofty plans for the third film.
“I was going to tell the saga in reverse,” he further explained of his intended poetic plot parallels. “Daniel and Mr. Miyagi are in a boat. It all happens when Daniel gets hit on the head and he has a dream. He’s in a coma or something and they see a boat in the mist. It docks and Mr. Miyagi and Daniel follow the first Miyagi ancestor into China and then they get involved in this thing.”

Cobra Kai Has Plans for The Next Karate Kid

Cobra Kai Season 4 Trailer Touts Tricky Tournament Warfare
By Joseph Baxter
So, why didn’t we get this ambitious, intriguingly chaotic version of The Karate Kid Part III? Well, as Kamen stated simply, “It would’ve been really cool, but nobody wanted to do it.” Indeed, the price tag for such a fantastical tale would have been enormous, making it a non-starter. Indicatively, Part III would showcase a noticeable decline in presentation, which was substantially less elaborate than the Okinawa-set Part II, which had effectively used Hawaii as a visually-stunning domestic substitute for the southern Japanese island prefecture. It seemed like an odd development at the time, seeing as the 1986 sequel grossed $115 million worldwide (making it the highest-grossing Karate Kid trilogy film), and represented an upward trend from the $91.1 million made by the 1984 original. However, the franchise’s pop culture impact did not initially yield real bankability, and the studio bigwigs clearly felt that corners needed to be cut for the nevertheless-inevitable threequel.
“Guy McElwaine [president of Columbia Pictures at the time], rest his soul, refused to do it. He wouldn’t do it. [Producer] Jerry [Weintraub] wouldn’t do it,” recalled Kamen of the studio’s resistance to his idea, and his culminating capitulation. “They didn’t want to mess with the franchise and I felt very strongly that doing the same story all over again was f***ing boring so I didn’t do it and they hired somebody else to do a draft. Somebody else could not write Mr. Miyagi and Daniel, couldn’t write them. So, Dawn Steel took over the studio from Guy McElwaine and she was a good friend of mine. She said, ‘How much would it take for you to do what they want to do?’ I was very flippant and I threw a number out and she said okay. I didn’t really want to do that one but I ended up doing it because first of all, they appealed to me. They said, ‘What, do you want somebody to f*ck up Mr. Miyagi? Because we’re going to make the film.'”
With Part III having ultimately reset things back to the original film’s San Fernando Valley backdrop, studio Columbia Pictures had seemingly opted for the safe strategy of reusing a tried-and-true formula—right down to the shooting locations and even the climactic All-Valley Tournament itself. Yet, to its arguable detriment, this approach also reversed any character growth achieved by Ralph Macchio’s Daniel by revisiting the first film’s bullying tropes as wealthy industrialist Terry Silver—on behalf of his old war buddy, Martin Kove’s John Kreese—maniacally wove a web of psychological torture, aided by the brute strength of hired tournament ringer Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan), for stakes that seemed played-out even by that point in the continuity. Ironically, the move yielded an anemic $38.9 million box office performance, which would stand as a franchise nadir until 1994’s Hilary Swank-starring fourth film, The Next Karate Kid, which only made $15.8 million—a failure from which Kamen can distance himself, seeing as he opted not to return for that entry.
Interestingly, while The Karate Kid franchise would never get to fly its proverbial freak flag with gravity-defying big screen time travel travails, it was able to go supernatural in animated form in the fall of 1989 for a similarly-titled NBC Saturday morning cartoon series centered on the further adventures of Daniel and Miyagi. Pertinently, the series saw the cinematic duo—joined by a young Okinawan girl named Taki—embark on adventures around the world to recover a lost Okinawan shrine that possesses myriad mystical powers, notably exemplified in the first episode, in which a belligerent Amazon tribal chief uses it to transform himself into a jaguar, forcing Daniel and Miyagi into awkward cross-species combat. So, yeah, it was that kind of show. However, The Karate Kid animated series had only manifested from a 13-episode order, and would not be renewed, leaving a 29-year gap until Cobra Kai brought the franchise back to television properly in 2018.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Lost wire-flying, time-traveling kung-fu opportunities aside, Cobra Kai Season 4 hits Netflix on Friday, December 31, on which it will characteristically strike first and strike hard with no mercy on your New Year’s Eve plans. That’s a good thing, especially since the advance-ordered Cobra Kai Season 5 has already wrapped, and will likely follow up your binge session sooner, rather than later.

I love when terms like ‘mythos’ or ‘saga’ are used in marketing for shit like Ghostbusters or whatever, like aye there’s that pavlov's dog response marketing knows it gets out of fandom spaces and that’s grim and aw that bollocks but its also really fucking funny when used for properties largely built on irreverent approach to genre fair. Start doing that shit with everything please; ‘The long-awaited continuation of the Nutty Professor Mythos,’ ‘A new chapter in the Seinfield Saga.’ ‘Weekend A Bernie's: Labor Day is a grand return to the franchises roots, featuring the classic beloved by generations of fans.

As someone just getting into TF comics, what do you recommend? c: (no pressure lol)
Well more than meets the eye and lost light are my obvious favourite long running comics from the old idw continuity, but I also highly recommend nick roche's wreckers saga though maybe check this one out when you're already more familiar with idw tf, same goes for robots in disguise. If these are not your thing or you have trouble understanding the context of those comics, there's a chronological reading guide with multiple marked jumping in points
I can't talk much about the current idw run because I stopped reading it a while back, but its spinoff series transformers galaxies has some really good and interesting stories.
The my little pony and ghostbusters crossovers are also fun and a quick read if you just want to check out something light hearted and stupid

Hi, Ben! I hope you are feeling a bit better, or that things have at least calmed a bit! (I mean I still hope you’re feeling better, but it’s okay if you’re not yet, too. You know what I mean.)
Wow, Walker sounds…interesting… I remember watching the original series with my mom, because she liked several of the actors in it. I can’t recall much in the way of specific detail, but I’m pretty sure there was definitely a lot of probably-questionable-even-at-the-time cultural appropriation-type stuff going on for both Native American and Asian cultures. And I gotta say, when I think “who can I see replacing Chuck Norris in a role?” JarPad is never the first to come to mind… I’m not even sure why they felt they needed to reboot that series, anyway, given the potential to be highly problematic.
And I’ve never seen any Winx Club, but that show also sounds very…interesting… I don’t understand the general obsession with gritty reboots lately (which is also where I feel DC went wrong). Like, let shit be bright and colorful! The real world is dark enough right now. Also not really here for a plus-size character being the butt of jokes and pranks. We’re well past that sort of thing being okay (and was one of the things I loved most about the Ghostbusters reboot. Realistically built women, and not a single fat joke to be found.)
Omg, that snippet is so cute!!! I wish I could draw, too, or at least photoshop with anything approaching skill, because that visual is hysterical. XD I can just see poor Noah fighting the urge to pick up a Sharpie and write ‘Migraine #1’ and 'Migraine #2’ on Peter and Stiles’ t-shirts. XD (Although between theoretically attempting to look at confidential police files and Mel’s probable reaction to his presence, I suspect Peter is not in for the best afternoon. [As though his outfit weren’t torment enough. XD ])
Also, I love that idea of Stiles making Peter fight a duel for the right to date his dad. Like, just imagine Noah getting home just as they’re about to start, and then hearing an explanation, and just being like “…you know what, what the hell? Let’s see what you’ve got, Hale.”, but like totally giving Peter like his tie or his badge or something to wear as a favor. (He’s totally gonna date Peter either way, but Peter doesn’t need to know that yet.)
And I don’t know if it will help any, but if you feel the need for some fluff, I got the next chapter of IYWTD up finally, complete with only one bed, cuddling for warmth, a bit of hurt/comfort, and massive amounts of pining. ;D (And wow, yeah, that ship dynamic comic fits them so well. Although right now Peter is still stuck on the seesaw between “What is all this FEELINGS bullshit?!” and “I didn’t say STOP!" XD )
Anyway, I’m starting to ramble again. I hope that your day has been good, or at least decent overall, and that tomorrow is even better! Sending lots of good energy for whatever you need it for! Take care! *Hugs!*
Hey my friend, hope you’re doing okay lately and that work isn’t too crazy. <3
My mood today has been, *sigh* well, it hasn’t been great. I think it’s because I did my T-shot at 1 am last night and my hormones are everywhere at the moment while my levels readjust. Which would also explain my moodswings and anger management problems in the last week. I’m gonna resolve that by hopefully getting my boxing bag in tomorrow, though with the Dutch Postal service PostNL you never freaking know. Because of the extended lockdown delivery times have been insane lately. But yeah, there’s that.
I did manage to take the garbage out today, folded some more laundry, and put my groceries away. So there’s that too.
With Walker, idk if it helps or hurts that I’ve never seen the original and have nothing to compare it to. But it just felt really awkward to me because of the acting. (I mean the teenage daughter is a good actress, I liked her, but Jpad is very- off in this show) There’s only one episode out so far and I kinda want to give it another shot but it also just- meh. It didn’t feel that special to me.
As for Winx, or Fate: a Winx Saga, it’s- *groan + sigh* It’s not good. It’s not good writing (the dialogue is horrendous, like a 40 year old man trying to write teenagers), it’s not the best acting, although it’s not awful either. I think the writing and the whitewashing of several characters are the biggest problems. Also the plus sized character and the gay character are bullied and made fun of and urgh.
I personally also never had a problem with the whole girls are fairies and boys are specialists thing in the original show. Because to me, that automatically extends to gender and would include trans people of that gender. But I can see why they would update that. So that, I don’t have a problem with.
It’s just the writing that is horrendous and it’s almost like the people who made it have no idea who their target audience actually is and why people watched the original in the first place.
But yeah, I might “hate watch” another episode just to see if I can poke some fun at it, but we’ll see.
Right? I really like that little paragraph. I’m trying to get this chapter out soon, but I’m struggling a little with a few things and don’t know how to continue it. I’ll figure it out though.
And Noah totally would if he could XD He has an image to uphold but guarantee you that he’s thought about it.
Peter’s having a very bad, horrendous, not so good day so far. That I can guarantee you.
And yeah, I think that image is just really freaking cute. Kinda want to include that prompt into Welcome to the Family. XD It’s adorable.
I think I’m gonna check out the next chapter this weekend. I wanna be in a bit of the right headspace for it when I do read it. And not in my ‘everything sucks and I wanna punch a hole in the wall and break every bone in my hand’ kinda mood.
But I will def check it out soon. I’m sure it’s gonna be an awesome read, it always is <3
Hope you’re having a good day B, Mo and me are sending you good vibes and lots of hugs and snuggles <3

So I've got 3 questions. I know, how cheeky is that. Haha. Anyhoo....what are your favorite episodes in Supernatural ? What are your favorite fanfiction stories you've read? I know that's sort of a hard question because we all have read soooooo many but what ones are standing out to you at this moment? And lastly, What are your favorite episodes of H.O.A.H?
These are such great questions. Hard to answer, actually. I’m going to put some actual thought into this…lol.
Prepare for a long-ass answer. Ready? Here we go.
1- Favorite episodes of the show?
I love the episodes that break the fourth wall like French Mistake and The Real Ghostbusters. I also love love classic SPN episodes that made me fall in love with this show like Dead in the Water, and Faith. My favorite season, if I have to pick one other than the first season (I was literally hooked from the pilot), would have to be season 9. I just love the Mark of Cain storyline and Dean in every episode in that season. More recently I have loved Tombstone, Baby, Into The Mystic, Alpha and Omega, Mint Condition, Last Call, and The Gamblers.
2- Favorite fan fic stories I’ve read?
This one shouldn’t be so hard because I read so many amazing stories. But the honest truth is that ever since I started writing the heart of a hunter series I have way less time to read if I want to get any writing done. Just a consequence of being a wife, a mother, and working full time for a busy orthopedic surgeon. I do continue to read whenever possible and even reblogged a few fics that I read and loved today. Some very specific ones that stand out in my brain are these:
To The Beat of the Devil’s Drums - @cardiaccadillac - This one is a hell of Dean whump story. It’s got straight up torture (that appeals to my heartbeat kink), protective!Dean, willing to do anything to save his brother. And while we’re at it, the author is one of the reasons I joined Tumblr and began writing my own fics.
What She Knows; What He Knows - @leatherwhiskeycoffeeplaid - This is a one shot, simple but so full of sincerity and all the things I think would truly come with being with Dean Winchester. I love it. It’s beautiful and gives me all the warm fuzzies. Another amazing author I credit for inspiring me to write for the Spn fandom when I hadn’t written fanfic in years.
Not Too Insane For You - @oneshoeshort (Retired blog, now known as @lallybrochloser) Liz was the first person on Tumblr who I opened up to and spoke about writing with. She has always been an inspiration, and is someone I will always consider a dear friend. This Sam AU series is brilliant af. The story line is compelling. The way she writes Sam is absolutely, devastatingly spot on. I really can’t say enough about this, and you know what that means coming from a dean!Girl.
3- Favorite Episodes of Heart of a Hunter? Girl, you’re going to make me pic favorite children now? Sheesh…. ;)
Okay, so Act 3 is where it all began for me. If I have to choose a favorite (at gunpoint), this would be it.
I had this idea in my head and started writing about a Reader leaving her world behind to joint Dean and Sam in the bunker. I knew exactly who she was right then. I knew what life she had lived up to that point, and I knew what a fantastic match she would be for Dean because she’s so damn independent and selfless in her own right. I wrote Act 3 first. Then I knew that I couldn’t selfishly keep those parts of the story that made her who she was all to my self.
So I went back and wrote Act 1. I loved this act, too, but mostly because you get to watch Dean and the Reader meet and start to develop this mutual respect for each other, and you get hints that they’d both want more if only their circumstances would allow for it. This lead to Act 2.
I could go on and on about why I love each act, but that’s not what your question was, so I’ll end with this. I am currently posting Act V, but writing Act VI. I have been writing Act VI for almost two years. I didn’t know when I started it where it would fit in the series, only that I was building to a time when I would finally get to share it with you all. I’m still writing, but it has been one of my favorite acts to write out of the entire saga (which is a lot, considering it’s technically the 8th story if you count the half acts I’ve posted.)
The summarize, Acts 3 and 6 (something to look forward to) are my favs. But only because you made me pick.
Thanks for popping in to pick my brain. I really enjoyed having to dig deep to answer these for you. Thanks for that! :)

The Real Ghostbusters #7
THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS #7 MARCH 1989 BY JIM VAN HISE, JOHN TOBIAS, RICH RANKIN, RICH POWERS AND KEN STEACY
The Ghostbusters are visited by two old golden age crimefighters, warning them about the return of Fu Fang, who has allied with the Caldoni mafia and taking over the criminal underworld of New York.
SCORE: 5
Sadly I spent most of the issue trying to figure out which heroes were being homaged here. It looks like a mix of Charlton and DC heroes, but it could have more pulp heroes in the mix.
The Caldoni saga continues, I am not really sure why the Ghostbusters cannot deal with the ghost mafia... I mean... they are ghosts...
At least in this story they trap an actual ghost (for some reason in this book, the Ghostbusters rarely do their thing).
There are some problems with the art. For the most part it looks good, but I remember feeling a bit confused about having two Venkmans.
So far I am not very impressed with this book (and thinking about my childhood, I do not remember reading these comics that often either).

REMAKE: GHOSTBUSTERS
The most anticipated remake of the year
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
In 1989, director Ivan Reitman said goodbye to one of the most emblematic sagas of the 80's: that year he released 'Ghostbusters II', the second part of the 1984 film. After that, Reitman continued his career with a few more titles as a director and many more as a producer. His son, Jason Reitman, has followed in his father's footsteps and now has among his filmography titles like 'Juno', 'Up in the air', 'Tully' or 'The Candidate'. And soon he will add a nostalgic title. The filmmaker takes up the story left by Reitman Sr., so the new installment will be a continuation of the 1989 film.
The story will focus on "a single mother who moves with her two children to the big city, where they soon discover a strange connection to the original Ghostbusters and a mysterious legacy left to them by their grandfather." Sony Pictures' new film Ghostbusters: Legacy will be available exclusively in theaters beginning next Thursday, November 18, 2021; and will be released in Latin America, Spain and the United States on similar dates.
