"Spider-Man: No Way Home" the highest-grossing film of 2021

Tom Holland's new film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" grossed an estimated $81.5 million in admissions during its second weekend, Sony Group reported Sunday, Dec. 26. "No Way Home" features a cast that includes Tom Holland as the titular superhero and Zendaya as his girlfriend, MJ. In an additional tie-in to the Marvel universe, Benedict Cumberbatch also plays neurosurgeon Doctor Strange. Previous actors from the "Spider-Man" series also appear. The social media-related buzz brought fans out of their homes and into theaters, the only place "No Way Home" was available.

"Encanto" wins Golden Globe for best animated film.

On January 9, the Golden Globe Awards announced that Disney's feature film inspired by Colombian culture and landscapes won the statuette for 'Best Animated Feature'. The musical brought to the big screen a magical story that depicts the life of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family that lives hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant village, in a wonderful place known as Encanto. Her magic has blessed all the children in the family with a unique gift, from enormous strength to the power to heal... everyone except Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only Madrigal without magical powers, may be her exceptional family's last hope. It recently became known that it was the most watched feature film since its release in Colombian theaters. The film is inspired by the culture and geography of Colombia, which made more than 3.6 million people come to see this film.

VENOM

On October 6, 2021, Venom 2: Carnage Unleashed, a production directed by Andy Serkis, was released in some Latin American countries. Woody Harrelson joined the cast as Cletus Kasady, a feared serial killer who becomes the host of the Carnage symbiote. Initially it had been set to be rated R, given the success of Joker, however, Sony Pictures executives decided, due to punishing box office results these days and at the request of the film's management, that the film's rating will remain PG-13 in the United States, indicating that only those over the age of 13 will be able to attend the screening. This decision was made due to the film's "intense sequences of action and violence, strong language, disturbing material and suggestive references".

Set eighteen months after the events of the first film in 2018, journalist Eddie Brock must adjust to his new life as host to the alien symbiote Venom, which now provides him with the skills necessary to act as a lethal vigilante. Intent on revitalizing his career, Brock agrees to interview serial killer Cletus Kasady, who is on death row. However, in an oversight during his execution, the man ends up becoming the host of the Carnage symbiote and escapes from prison, unleashing a new threat on New York City.

Carnage is basically a stronger and crueler version of Venom. His suit is a branch of the Venom symbiote. For years, it was rumored that the villain would be the main antagonist in Sony's Venom solo movie. At one point, the film was even titled Venom Carnage.

4 MOVIES THAT WILL LEAVE YOU THINKING AFTER THE END

These movies will make you think, either because of their labyrinthine plots or because of an incredible aftertaste that stays with us long after 'The End'.

The Lighthouse (Robert Eggers, 2019).

A remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. Veteran lighthouse keeper Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) and his young assistant Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson) must live together for four weeks. Their goal will be to keep the lighthouse in good shape until the relief arrives that will allow them to return to land. But things get complicated when conflicts arise due to power hierarchies between the two.

Midsommar (Ari Aster, 2019).

Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) are going through a tough couple crisis that has left their love relationship very touched. They decide to take a vacation getaway with friends to Midsommar, a summer festival held every 90 years in a remote village in Sweden. However, what seemed to be a dream vacation takes a macabre turn when the villagers invite them to participate in their disturbing festive activities.

2001, A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968)

Millions of years ago, at the dawn of the birth of homo sapiens, apes discover a monolith that takes them to a higher stage of intelligence. Another monolith reappears, millions of years later, buried on a moon, which provokes the interest of human scientists. Finally, HAL 9000, an artificial intelligence machine, takes over all the systems of a manned spacecraft during a NASA mission.

Paprika, dream detective (Satoshi Kon, 2006)

Three scientists have created a revolutionary device in psychiatry, a device called "PT" that allows psychiatrists to enter the minds of their patients by recording their dreams while they sleep, and thus treat their problems at their root. But one day they steal this device and start using it to invade the minds of its creators in their dreams. Now, the last hope for their salvation lies in the young therapist Paprika and her power to stop them.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

In 1989, director Ivan Reitman said goodbye to one of the most emblematic sagas of the 80's: that year he released 'Ghostbusters II', the second part of the 1984 film. After that, Reitman continued his career with a few more titles as a director and many more as a producer. His son, Jason Reitman, has followed in his father's footsteps and now has among his filmography titles like 'Juno', 'Up in the air', 'Tully' or 'The Candidate'. And soon he will add a nostalgic title. The filmmaker takes up the story left by Reitman Sr., so the new installment will be a continuation of the 1989 film.

The story will focus on "a single mother who moves with her two children to the big city, where they soon discover a strange connection to the original Ghostbusters and a mysterious legacy left to them by their grandfather." Sony Pictures' new film Ghostbusters: Legacy will be available exclusively in theaters beginning next Thursday, November 18, 2021; and will be released in Latin America, Spain and the United States on similar dates.
