#the first time i watched it

just finished rewatching good omens (s1) for the first time since i first saw it many years ago. and i am, once again, inconsolable

I want to ramble I hope that's ok. it'll probably have spoilers, so if you haven't watched it and you want to there's your warning

having watched this show through multiple times, I honestly have no idea why it's so panned. like is it perfect? no, but it's fun and cheesey and sometimes even heartfelt and sweet

zelda and link's relationship in it is really fun to me, and the reason they're Like That is because they were based on a couple from a show running around the same time (Moonlighting). also like ovega said, they're catty, and it's fun! they banter as a sport, as bonding. there's an episode toward the end of the series where a major plot point is that zelda really does genuinely love link (links reaction to learning this is adorable btw)

through most of the series link's really not that bad honestly? he complains about doing his job often, but he still does it (and likes it, as ovega said). and he's got a moment here or there where he's a little "pervy" but nothing all that serious? usually just commenting that he wants a kiss tbh; half the time when he asks zelda says yes but they get interrupted before they can.

zelda is never afraid to throw hands with anyone, there's even an episode where she goes to take down a gleeok and save a pretty lady herself. there's an episode where she gets to wield link's sword. she helps out on most if not all missions really. she's also just as dramatic as link, and watching the two of them verbally spar is so so fun.

ganon in this show is ALSO (you guessed it) fun! ovega correctly said his voice acting is fun, switching between a kind of skeletor-like voice and a very unsettling deep growl (kid friendly AND disturbing!) he has an "evil jar" where his minions go when they're shot with link's sword beam, and the concept of it is hilarious to me. his schemes are zany but still a definite threat to hyrule, and the monsters who follow him are so goddamn funny (p sure they unionize or something at some point? revolt against him? both?)

the plots to the episodes are all so delightfully weird and wacky, it uses sound effects from zelda 1 and certain bits of video game logic for certain items (which i LOVE), and overall, it's utterly charming. i wish more people would give it a chance but it has this reputation that precedes it so strongly that most people see one clip and think they've seen all there is of it.

if you read all this this and you consider yourself a zelda fan, i highly recommend giving it a genuine watch. it's obviously not for everyone, but i think for most people, it'll at least be something mildly enjoyable, and not the garbage heap it's often claimed to be.

I know the zelda cartoon is so unserious, but im gripping so hard to the little sparkly bits i find in there. Like dispite that whole link constantly asking for kisses and zelda saying no thing, she does like him. Theyre constantly shown to be going on picnics and zelda is mad when he sleeps in and almost misses it. Link wanting to show zelda places hes found on his adventures. Link seemingly hating the idea of being like, "domesticated" at the very start of the show to Actively Sabotaging a clear win against ganon (getting the triforce of power from ganon) because hes afriad that zelda wont need him anymore and make him leave and he LIKES it here. Ganon being this cooky evil wizard thing in charge of the most "you got it boss" minions my FAVE. Side note; love the rolling low pitch, high pitch thing the va for ganon does, its very fun. The LASER EFFECTS are PRETTY. The triforce talks. Zelda kicks ass. Link is Annoyingly competent and sassy. No manners at all. I want to know his thought process with he picked out those "noble clothes". Theyre both so CATTY sometimes and i love them.

classic cinema is such a great pastime cause you'll hear somebody say yeah this movie changed cinema forever and is still the standard 70 years later and you'll go into it like surely it can't be good and come out of it like wow no it is that good actually. like this every time
