Hullo dearest! Please tell us about your thoughts on the several cowardly versions of Sherlock Holmes?? 💛
:v
Well then. I suppose I have been forced to, woe is me.
Anyways. The ONLY acceptable adaption I will not be shitting on is Granada. I love u Jeremy Brett 😘 as for everyone else, they are COWARDS!!!!
First reason why they're cowards, being the obvious reason:
Johnlock
(pt: Johnlock)
Not letting Sherlock and John get together. COWARDS. So many adaptions and only, like, one that I know of let them be together??? (That being this amazing short film I watch ten times a day) And it would be different if they let their relationship just be and let them be platonic while still letting them have that familiar depth like in Sherlock & co., but NO, shows like Sherlock BBC and The Irregulars tease and queerbait to hell and back, and even make the one of them queer and in LOVE with the other (like in The Irregulars, John is in love with Sherlock but as far as I know, doesn't tell him because he's unstable or smt idfk) but they don't get together for one convoluted reason or another. It's frustrating as hell because it's not like there was no substance between the two in ACD/Original canon, it's not like the TJLC invented it bc of Sherlock BBC or the RDJ Adaption, no, their relationship was so deep and so real and so beautiful in ACD canon and if there is gonna be an adaption where their relationship stays the same, that's fine, perfect even, but NO, they add extra bullshit that make you think there might be something and then give unreasonable reasons why they can't be together, making you feel like YOUR the weird one for seeing something that wasn't there apparently.
Reason number two why I find most of these adaptions cowards:
Irene Adler
(pt: Irene Adler)
For some reason, every single adaption (except for my love, Granada<3) they fuck her up. Like. ACD Irene Adler vs BBC, RDJ, Enola, ect. Irene Adler are not the same Irene Adler. Who is she????? Because the Irene Adler I heard in The Scandal In Bohemia, was an upper class woman who had an affair with the king of [Forgor lol] and kept the photo of them together as collateral when he ditched her and tried to get married to a princess.
The Irene in these adaptions??? She's a trickster, a Dominatrix, an Assassin, the Lover of Moriarty, and INSANELY IN LOVE WITH SHERLOCK HOLMES. what the FUCK
Like. Please please please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is there another Irene Adler in the ACD canon??? Who is all these things?? Because when I watched Granada, when I read the story, and now listening to the audiobook (which, off-topic, found a playlist of free audiobooks of all the short stories on YouTube with a fantastic narrator here) The Woman described in these stories, yes can be secretive and sneaky, but was NEVER fucking like RDJ or BBC's level of Irene Adler. It kinda feels like they just picked whatever character they wanted to make a Pandora out of (which is doubly weird that BBC made Mary Morstan like that when they had Irene but I barely acknowledged post season two canon outside of @gaylilsherlock 's fantastic fics, plus they almost completely left ACD canon after Reichenbach which I don't really mind, but post-reichenbach is a whole other post) instead of making their own character. So I find them cowardly for a) not making Irene at least semi-accurate to the canon besides a tiny photo (even tho canon photo was a FUCKING CANVAS- okay I'll stop) and b) not making up a new fleshed out character of her own to be a secret spy.
And uhhhh I can't think of anything else rn. Yeah:D I would complain about Sherlock & Co. But because it's not finished yet and I like how they're treating Sherlock and John's relationship and also them as their own individual characters I don't have too much to complain about, and I would complain about Irregulars but I could not get past the first five episodes. I just couldn't get into it. It kinda felt like they made a whole story that just so happened to have Sherlock Holmes characters in it. Idk tho.
Tldr: Johnlock and Irene Adler deserved better.

Masriel + Modern Crime AU
I missed my star-crossed assholes from 3 sentence fics
'At least you can't say I'm not romantic,' Asriel sniffs and touches his jaw carefully. 'What, with fighting for my woman an all.'
Marisa laughs, pressing the new bandage over an equally new cut on his temple. One evening, they thought. No shady business, no attracting attention, just a normal evening together. And then some guy had a misfortune of getting a little aggressive in his flirting with Marisa, so Asriel beat him up in front of the movie theater they were going to.
'Yes, very romantic, I'm impressed to my core,' she pats his disheveled hair with a smile, because it is kind of romantic. Breaking that guy's nose would have taken her exactly three seconds. Asriel knew that perfectly well, and still jumped right in.
Sitting on a curb, a few streets away from the movies, he lets out a dramatic sigh and looks at her, shaking his head.
'There goes my pretty face, huh?'
His cheeky grin sends them bursting with laughter. A few people look over their shoulders, probably expecting such behavior from teenagers, not from a couple of adults. Well, too bad. They're still running on adrenaline, and the night is young, and they are mad about each other, so everyone else can go fuck themselves.
'Don't worry, pretty face, I'm still gonna love you,' Marisa reassures him just before Asriel stands up to catch her for a broken-lipped kiss.

His Dark Materials season 3! Apparently the UK side is doing... some kinda tomfoolery (the US is doing two episodes a week for four weeks, Australia is following suit a few hours later, but the UK is releasing the entire season at once on the 18th on BBC iPlayer, including the entire half-season that hasn't aired anywhere else yet?), so should be interesting. I'll be using the tag 'hdm spoilers' for everything.
(But seriously, such a weird distribution method. Why not just release the first four, then 5-6 and 7-8 concurrently with the US/Aus broadcast?)
Anyway. Thoughts on His Dark Materials 3.01 and 3.02, The Enchanted Sleeper and The Break! Will mention later-season stuff, so spoilers!
It felt... a little underwhelming? Like it wasn't bad by any means, just kind of... okay, here's some stuff that's happening. Was lower on the Holy Shit Quotient than other episodes have been. On the other hand, the later episodes will be upping the Holy Shit Quotient exponentially, so that helps!
Mrs Coulter was fascinating to watch. There's that manipulation there, but also like? The apparent genuine love and concern for Lyra? The scenes with Will felt so tense, both of them loving Lyra but in completely different ways, the combination of hinting at a way for Will to save Lyra to instantly dismissing him when he was no longer useful. I was genuinely cringing when she was talking about Will's Mum, leading to the knife breaking. And in doing so, she damned herself, because the only reason she wanted Will close by was for the knife in the first place! Good job, Mrs Coulter, you played yourself!
Iorek is back! And being badass! On the other hand, was not a fan of how the scene with Will played out, it just... felt rushed. And they just left a chopped-in-half sky iron helmet sitting there, apparently? Like damn at least pick it up to reforge it. I would have liked to get more context on why the Panserbjorn were moving, too, although we may get that exposition in the next episode. On the other hand, moving the action to some random island in the German Sea instead of Literally The Himalayas might lessen that story element, because why would they move south if not to go somewhere where they still have snow and ice?
I don't know. TV adaptations and all.
Also unsure about the angels. They felt... quite abrupt? Like why would the audience care that Baruch died, we've barely got to know him. Balthamos' departure felt extremely abrupt, too. Also wow, Asriel and his angel torture chamber was. Rough.
(Also re: the torture chamber, I totally heard that as 'adamantium' and laughed because.  You know the material Wolverine (and his li'l clone Laura, played by Dafne Keen) has as claws? Thanks, Professor X :) Kind of up there with Pan taking a wolverine form last season (which still fits due to his preexisting preference for mustelid forms!).)
Didn't mind the newer scenes with Ogunwe, it helped flesh out the whole concept of Asriel recruiting across the worlds by actually showing what that involves. I do like that Asriel's worked out how to cross worlds without having to murder small children, that helps :| The Intention Craft looked pretty cool too. Mary popping by just to see what happened was interesting, although I'm still ridiculously impatient to get to the Mulefa, so. Come on, guys!
Back to Ogunwe, lmao Asriel's expression watching him with his daughter. "Oh. Huh. Loving father-daughter relationship. Didn't know that was a thing that was a thing that could happen. Hmm. I wonder if I'll learn anything from this?"
Interesting take on the Gallivespians, although I miss the dragonflies. There were some interesting parts where Salmakia in particular looked like she had slightly inhuman proportions, not sure if it was clever filming angles or CGI?
Land of the Dead looks proper creepy. Felt so... well... dead. I did miss how they handled it in the book, though, with how abruptly those scenes cut in and out, which was something they could do on TV, so it’s not even an adaptation issue. Pan's comment after Lyra's dream, though, about not being able to follow her... oh god gonna be a mess during that scene.
One thing I really enjoyed - daemons representing inner turmoil. We didn't get to see as much with Lyra and Pan since she spent most of the episodes unconscious, but there were some really neat scenes with Mrs Coulter and the Golden Monkey (like watching Lyra escape before finally electing to alert Mrs Coulter), and Asriel and Stelmaria (where she's basically going, "Excuse me, Lyra and Pan are my kid/s too, you know you care about them, you ass!").
You go Mrs Coulter you fuck up that creepy Father Gomez! Because holy shit, creepy as hell. There’s a comment on the subreddit saying how if the spider wasn’t his daemon, he’d probably be pulling its legs off, and yeah, accurate. Also Will's stunned expression after shooting the soldier threatening Ama, the poor kiddo.
A minor note of silliness - since Australia is drawing from HBO, we're also getting their built-in subtitles, and they described Mrs Coulter and Ama as using ASL. The credits confirm that, no, that's BSL. That's a whole other language. HBO, it's okay to let American viewers know that other languages exist, it really is XD
Also, Pan hiding in Will's jacket. My heart.

A collective post of everything I watched on Netflix in 2020
I finally found the watch history function on Netflix which I wanted in order to reminisce over the TV/film I watched over the last year, including the good and the bad. I’ve included a little round-up of my thoughts for each, as lockdown has got me with plenty of time on my hands. If anyone has watched any of the below feel free to give me a message- happy to discuss anything!
Travelers (season 3) - this was an unforgettable show with some great characters and definitely put me through hell (in a good way), I am a David x Marcy shipper for sure!
IT Crowd (season 4 & 5) - my favourite comedy show ever, and I mean the UK version
Explained (random episodes) - interesting bite-sized episodes on a variety of topics
Sherlock (season 3 & 4) - it kinda went downhill from season 4...and doesn’t help that there is no season 5 in sight
Unforgettable - must be pretty forgettable cause I couldn’t remember watching, a typical revenge plot romp I think
The Mind, Explained - same as for Explained above, except more pyshcological
You (season 2) - binge-worthy! I love to hate Joe Goldberg.
Don’t F**k with Cats - wow, this was disturbing but so gripping.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - geniunely a good remake and rather amusing
Sex, Explained - as for Explained but a little more intriguing ;)
The Stranger (season 1) - full of suspense and a good binge watch but ultimately full of plot holes with an unsatisfying conclusion
Gavin & Stacey (season 3) - a classic which I only started watching in 2019
Sex Education (all of it) - comedy gold!
Unbelievable (limited series) - very harrowing, an emotional rollercoaster based on a real-life rape case
Atypical (all of it) - light-hearted and fun to binge
The Sinner (season 1) - it was okay... wasn’t spectacular compared to other similar dramas I’ve seen
Love Is Blind (season 1) - cringey but satisfying
In the Shadow of the Moon - I hardly remember this one :)
Dunkirk - a stand-out historical movie
The Stepfather - typical killer stepfather plot but rather enjoyable
The Super - an interesting premise, but not that super
Saw VI - all gore not much plot
Doctor Who (random episodes) - no words needed :D
Louis Theroux and Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends (random episodes) - I love his style of interviewing - what a man!
The Revenant - a lot of... well, not much
Nightcrawler - it was decent, but something was missing which I couldn’t put my finger on
How To Get Away With Murder (seasons 1-5) - probably my biggest new watch of the year, a rollercoaster of suspense, drama and murder, another season to go...
Ocean’s Eleven - fun but cheesey
Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare - creepy faces and an interesting ending
Eli - it started one way then went another, I wasn’t convinced
Star Trek (2009) - I couldn’t really get into this one...
In the Tall Grass - a lot of running around in grass
Bloodride (season 1) - i loved this, a quirky idea, i binged it
Apostle - intense, a satisfying religious cult horror
The Platform - great idea, not sure on the ending
What Keeps You Alive - what happened in this one again?
History 101 - didn’t watch many episodes :P
The Prodigy - a decent child possession horror
Into the Night (season 1) - really enjoyed this, a highlight of the year for me, hoping for a season 2
It - pretty chilling and creepy, but a tad cheesey
Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - the first one has a brilliant dinosaur fight scene, the second one has too many plot holes and inconsistencies to take seriously
Knowing - a Nicholas Cage sci-fi/apocalpytic classic, pretty decent
Stranger Things (random episodes) - i tried to get my bf into the show but sadly he still isn’t much of a TV fan
Miranda (random episodes) - such fun!
Black Mirror (seasons 1 & 2) - another one i introduced the bf to, i got a bit further with him on this one, the very first episode being the highlight
The Last House on the Left - a decent remake, but nothing outstanding
Dark (season 3) - this, my friends, is one of the greatest shows of all time. want a timey-wimey story where everything is connected and has an amazingly satisfying conclusion? this is the show for you!
The Silence - a bad ‘A Quiet Place’
Geostorm - i’m a fan of disaster movies but this one wasn’t in the same league as some of the greats
Panic Room - a mum and kid hides in the panic room when a group of thugs break into the house, it was enjoyable but not all that memorable
Prisoners - a very long film with some enjoyable parts but overall unsatisfying
Girl on the Third Floor - it was okay, i can’t remember much of it
The Woods (season 1) - another Harlan Coben adaptation- not as good as ‘Safe’ or ‘The Stranger’ but still a gripping thriller
Time Trap - a fun time-travel film with some interesting turns of events
72 Dangerous/Cutest Animals (random episodes) - just ‘cause i love animals
Slasher (all of it) - some very gory deaths, especially in season 3. quite disturbing but keeps the suspense up throughout.
2012 - a guilty pleasure of mine, realistic or not
Kingsman: The Secret Service - a fun spy film, will be looking to watch the second one soon
Blackfish - this was harrowing, it really made me think, but overall i’m on the side of tilikum
Unsolved Mysteries (season 1 & 2) - watching some of these my jaw dropped, love theorising on this kind of stuff
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (season 1) - Zac is great in this, he seems so chill and literally ‘down to earth’
The Call - I love this film, seen it 3 times now
Contagion - very relatable right now, interesting to see the parallels with todays situation
Next in Fashion (season 1) - i didn’t get too far with this, i found it a little superficial
Searching - another of those internet web-cam based films. decent but not memorable.
Non-stop - another Nicholas Cage classic, this time a suspense thriller
Freaks - as the title suggests this one was rather weird, i didn’t quite gel with it
The Perfection - wow, that was an experience. definitely memorable, even if some characters make questionable decisions...
Extraction - not usually a fan of action-type thrillers, but i actually enjoyed this one, plus it has Chris Hemsworth in it!
Line of Duty (season 2) - full of suspense, a great build-up in the first 5 episodes, but the way they tied it up really grated on me
Insidious - watched this one with my sister. a genuinely good horror film on rewatch with an amazing cliff-hanger
A Quiet Place - another one watched with my sister. labelled a horror but its more sci-fi, either way its a classic. bring on the second film!
The Dark Tower - disappointing mostly.
Gladiator - i’d never seen this before and now i understand the hype- what an epic movie!
Criminal UK (season 2) - didn’t disappoint following the exceptional first season
Venom - a fun comedic marvel film, definitely need to watch more from Marvel in the next year- i need an order to watch them in as don’t know where to start
Our Planet (season 1) - chill David Attenborough to put on in the background
The Equalizer - a great action revenge thriller plot with a badass Denzel
Merlin (random episodes) - who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane with some nostalgic bbc merlin?
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - pretty scary remake
The Witcher (season 1) - rewatched in order to familiarise myself again before season 2 - i didn’t realise how funny the show was until this time round, gotta love Jaskier!
American Murder: The Family Next Door - this was haunting
The Haunting of Bly Manor - phenomenal, emotional, creepy, heartbreaking - i much preferred it to Hill House
Abducted in Plain Sight - seriously, how naive are the parents in this? i could have a rant for hours about this!
The End of the F***ing World (seasons 1 & 2) - very bingeable, Alyssa makes me laugh too much, i love how relatable the show is
Fractured - didn’t expect much from this consipiracy-type film but it kept me guessing right till the end
The Ripper (limited series) - very intriguing, but the mysogyny in this was shocking
Inconceivable - a typical mother looking for her baby revenge plot but still entertaining
The Midnight Sky - i’d heard rave reviews for this but was disappointed by a lacklustre plot which was sacrificed for award-winning cinematography
Killer Women with Piers Morgan (season 2) - a pyschological interview series which looks into the mind of murderers, rather interesting
May the Devil Take You - scarier and jumpier than i thought it would be!
So 2020 obviously gave me a lot of time to watch a s**t load of stuff and looking back at it i feel like i got a decent amount of my watch-list ticked off! And obviously this is not including shows watched on other media so there’s that too (a special shout-out to the William Hartnell era of Doctor Who which I watched this year on BritBox). In all, 2020 has definitely introduced me to a few new fandoms and progressed my love for others.

ghixygi sorry i'm asking so many questions, but do you have any self indulgent dynamics or episode ideas you would love to see the lads explore? 👀
Don’t apologise I’m having a blast answering them! 😂
Okay, we all know that the lads have made it no secret they love classic horror (both films and literature) so I’m kinda surprised they haven’t done an episode with a homage to The Phantom of the Opera yet. If we ever get a musical episode I would DIE if they put a couple of references to that story in there... 👀
Also this may be a weird one, but I think it would be fun for them to tackle fairy tales? When you think about how twisted and gruesome the original stories can be, I reckon it would be right up their alley. (You can pry Reece as a Snow White expy from my horrible, grubby little hands)
I’d LOVE for them to do more period pieces too! The BBC likes to slap them down in terms of budget and time constraints but I would love to see more historical based episodes. Where’s my Victorian ghost story? Where’s my 70’s folk horror?? Where’s my Dark Ages love story?! WHERE’S MY EDWARDIAN ADVENTURE STORY BBC???

I’ve made Spotify playlists inspired by each of the ghosts and I’ve made these little written pieces to talk about them. if you wanna read them, please go ahead - if not then enjoy the music!!
This is Pat's playlist:
Dancing In the Dark - Bruce Springsteen
A 1984 hit that Pat definitely would have loved, it’s brilliant tbh.
I Will Follow You into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie
Poor Pat. I feel so sorry for him having to leave his family so young, like as someone who lost a parent very young (although I’m assuming slightly older than Daley would’ve been) it breaks my heart to see Pat’s family turn up at Button House. I’ve been to the place my parent died a number of times since and every time it makes me feel kinda sick. It’s an interesting idea for the show to explore, sometimes I forget just how dark this show actually is but like it’s a comedy but it’s literally about the trauma of death like???
Kids In America - Kim Wilde
I too adore Kim Wilde, Pat.
Dance With Me - Alphaville
RIP Pat Butcher you would’ve loved this song. Like Pat’s a dancing king as has been shown in ALN (one of my favourite episodes O.o) and that’s legit one of my favourite scenes where Pat and the Captain are arguing on the dance floor. I say “naff off, you wazzock” more than is socially acceptable XD
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
Pat was obviously a fan of Sweet Caroline, man was a DJ extraordinaire and a huge football fan therefore obvious. It’s kinda weird to imagine Pat at the local game on a Sunday afternoon but like he definitely did, maybe he took Daley a few times. More of Pat’s life please, Parent Pat plsss.
Radio Ga Ga - Queen
The Grey Lady is one of my absolute favourite episodes cause I think ghosts hunters are a really great concept for an episode and Pat trying to host a radio show is just so incredibly funny. Pat’s little “apologies to those still waiting for the pop quiz” is just so good. But yeah, radio guy.
Video Killed The Radio Star - The Buggles
More radio references but also, I think Pat (and Julian as well) are most indicative of the increasingly rapid passage of time through technology. Like when Pat’s like”knocks the socks off Betamax!!” And Julian says “that must be two CD noms max” or something (I can’t remember exactly what he says). There’s a thing called Moore’s Law that states that technology doubles in capability and halves in price every two years (I know that’s not right but that’s the basic gist don’t come at me) but that means that growth in technological accessibility is increasing at a more rapid pace every year. Anyway, I think watching Pat and Julian struggle with modern technology is so fascinating cause they’re so different to today despite only living a few decades ago.
Together In Electric Dreams - Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder
Pat would’ve just missed this and honestly big sad. Such a cheesy song and just pure 80s cringe and I adore it XD But yeah, “we will always be together”.
Dancing in the Moonlight - Toploader
I put this on so many character playlists (I have literally hundreds of private character playlists on my personal spotify, there’s legitimately tons) because it’s just a nice song and yeah, Pat would love it :D
Alright - Supergrass
This was more placed here as something for Pat’s scouts. Like the song is so often used to show young people having fun and being care-free and I just love the image of Pat driving the scouts out into the country and it being a superrrrr long drive and then finally they get off the bus and just run free with this song playing. I loved being in Scouts and most of the Masters were so much fun and I just really wanna see more of Pat making sure his scouts have a great time!!
Come On Eileen - Dexys Midnight Runners
(Dexys Midnight Runners are actually the reason behind my username on here…) But yeah just the 80s personified this song. And I hope your proud of me for not making the classic Australian Radio joke I always make when this song comes up… XD
December, 1963 (Oh What A Night) - Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
Pat was born in 1945/6, right?? Well then he would’ve turned 18 in 1963. I always forget that Pat was not just an 80s guy like he was a teen in the 50s and 60s and then in his 20s in the 70s like that’s sick!! But yeah sorry, this is just a great song!!
(Feels Like) Heaven - Fiction Factory
Pat, my guy. My heart breaks in that scene where Pat really thinks he’s going to heaven. My. Heart. Breaks. I’m assuming the ghosts don’t know what happens when you “move on” but Pat immediately assumes upon seeing a bright light that that’s it for him?? Maybe it’s just based on films and pop culture that he’s aware of?? Or maybe it’s just because he was emotional and had had a massive revelation of sorts and assumed he would move on??
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Jimmy Somerville
Just a good song againnnnnnnnn, but also since Alison turning up like how incredible would it be to finally have a living breathing human who you can talk to. Like how real would that make you feel?? Like okay Jimmy, come back to me once you've been dead 40 years and meet a woman who half died and can now see you, then that's real!! XD
Don’t You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds
I feel like Pat more than anyone is concerned about being forgotten but is also one of the least likely to be forgotten for the time being. Like he has a whole family who won’t forget him for at minimum two generations in addition to God knows how many scouts who will clearly not forget him. He passed on skills that they will pass on to others who will pass on to others like one day his name will be forgotten but not what he imparted onto the world. Okay got philosophical but yeah, you shan’t be forgotten any time soon Pat!!
Top Gun Anthem - Harold Faltermeyer & Steve Stevens
A great film, good choice Pat.
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham!
1980s icon George Michael. Just a fun song.
Somewhere in My Heart - Aztec Camera
Pat still loves Carol despite what she did to him… That is either an incredibly emotionally mature man or a man in denial who knows?? But this song is just so lovely, like it feels very pure and uncomplicated if that makes sense.
I’m Still Standing - Elton John
Having just said that, I feel like this is part is just kind of a fuck you. Like just a moment to be like ‘i’m still living (hehe dying) a good life (hehe death) despite what you did to me.'
The Wanderer - Status Quo
This is the song that plays when Pat gets into the bus after being shot. It’s basically just about being a player and hitting on loads of women, so not particularly relevant but it’s still a good song and I genuinely find that scene really eerie and yeah, *shudder* just find it weird.

(for the ask thing) any book/tv show/movie/song recommendations?
BRO! I heckin got you man! Now, I’m gonna skip the song and book recommendation bit because that sorta thing isn’t really my scene. BUT! In terms of TV? My rec list is like a mile long. I’m gonna include a read-more line, actually.
BBC Merlin: You know I had to put this on the list. But the fact that you’re on my blog means you’ve probably watched this one, so I won’t go into detail about it. Available on Netflix
Mob Psycho 100: Just a cute, sweet story about a bunch of psychic kids trying to kill each other. A story with this much fighting has no right to be so wholesome. Mob is just a good boy, he doesn’t deserve all this! Fair warning, its messages about identity, self love, and growth WILL make you feel Emotions. Available on various anime pirating websites
Red vs Blue: The found family game is SO strong in this one. By far the best found family plot/dynamic I have ever and will ever experience. The characters are all so solid, yknow? Like it took me three rewatches to understand the plot, but I didn’t even care because I loved the characters SO MUCH. It’s also really, really funny (although some of the jokes have aged a bit poorly tbh). Basically about a bunch of space marines who goof off and accidentally dismantle corrupt governments along the way. Available on Youtube
Supernatural: Is it cringey? Yeah. Does the fandom suck? Also yeah. Is Destiel overrated? BIG yeah. But it’s got monsters, magic, family, and a plot that doesn’t revolve around romance - and really, what more could you ask for? And sure, a lot of people don’t really like the later seasons, but idk I actually prefer them. Season 15 has me THRIVING. I mean come on - character vs author?! Fighting the guy who literally wrote you into existence because he doesn’t want to give your story a happy ending?! Say what you will about Supernatural, but it’s one of the most imaginative shows I’ve ever seen. Available on Netflix
Avatar the Last Airbender: You like stellar animation, intricate worldbuilding/magicbuilding, and a perspective on war that is surprisingly mature for a kids show? Check it out. This show is without a doubt one of the best animated series of all time. Go on. Watch it. It’ll change your life. Available on Netflix
The Umbrella Academy: Time-travelling assassins. Superheroes. Ghosts. Talking monkeys. Murder mysteries. Baller soundtracks. This show will never give you what you expect. I don’t even think I could properly describe it to you. Available on Netflix
Detective Conan: An anime. It’s about a teen detective - think Nancy Drew but bloodier - who witnesses a crime and is fed an experimental poison in order to keep him from telling anyone. But instead of killing him, the poison turns him into a 6-year-old. So now he’s got to solve crimes and take down a criminal organization while in the body of a child. Naturally, shenanigans ensue. Fair warning, the main character becomes a bit of a Mary Sue in later episodes, but the first 300 or so are pretty fun. A few episodes are available on Netflix, but not any of the good ones. You’ll need an anime pirating website for that
Knives Out: My favourite movie ever, of all time. It’s a murder mystery that both subverts and pays homage to its parent genre in all the right places. It’s funny, it’s intelligent, and has a spectacular ending! Although I do wish the fandom would stop being so horny for Ransom, I mean he’s literally racist...No clue where you can find this tbh, I saw it in theatres
Derry Girls: Now I’m not normally a big fan of realistic fiction/sitcom stuff. Despite how funny they are, I’ve not even watched The Office or Parks and Rec because that normal daily life stuff just doesn’t peak my interest. And yet, somehow this story about a group of Irish high schoolers just has me enthralled. Very funny, very well-written, give it a watch. Available on Netflix
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Another anime. Phenomenal animation? Check. Fascinating plot and characters? Check. Detailed magic system that gets my lore-obsessed heart fluttering? Big heckin check. So basically two kids try to use Fantasy Science to bring their mom back to life, only the experiment fails and has some pretty nasty consequences - one boy loses his arm and leg, while the other loses his entire body and has his soul bound to a suit of armour. Now they gotta go through government conspiracies, ethical dilemmas, and Daddy Issues to try and get their bodies back. Available on Netflix
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K: Yet another anime. I know, I know, I’m a nerd, get over it. This show doesn’t have a complex plot or even complex characters, tbh, but what it does have is some amazing humour. It’s extremely funny, and it’s also just a nice show to kick back and relax to. Basically this guy who’s so op that he could rewrite the laws of reality on a whim is stuck dealing with relationship drama in high school despite being very, very asexual and very, very tired. Mostly he just uses his powers to avoid people and eat junk food, which is honestly a mood. Available on Netflix
Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated: Honestly I’d recommend almost anything that’s Scooby Doo-related because that was my childhood obsession. I used to have like 20 of the movies on DVD before my mom gave them all away. To this day I still love Scooby Doo, and watch it whenever I get the chance. But if you ask any SD fan, they’ll probably tell you that Mystery Incorporated is the best, most intelligent, most creative installment in the franchise. And they’re right (although I do wish there was less relationship drama...) Available on Netflix
Evil Genius: This is a documentary series about the Collar Bomb Robbery. Now, despite what the above list might indicate, I actually watch a LOT of documentaries, and if I were here to recommend all of them then we would be here all day. Not really ‘funny’ like the other entries on this list, it’s actually rather tragic, but definitely a cerebral viewing experience. Available on Netflix
Screwball: Now this is a documentary that IS funny. It’s about drug scandals in baseball. But the dramatic scene re-enactments are done with child actors that are all wearing fake beards and pretending to be drug dealers. It’s not only a fascinating subject, but it’s got amazing editing and visuals that have me in awe. Available on Netflix
Behind the Curve: Yet another documentary. This one’s about the rise of the Flat Earth movement. You’ll spend most of the time on the verge of having a stroke because of how stupid it all is. Available on Netflix
The Movies That Made Us: Okay okay okay last documentary on the list I swear. This one’s exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a series talking about the behind-the-scenes production of iconic movies like Home Alone and Ghostbusters. I eagerly await the second season. Available on Netflix
Monster Factory: If you’re familiar with the McElroy brothers and their brand of humour, you’ll love this. Griffin and Justin team up to make the most disturbing avatars they can create using video game character creators. The origins of the Final Pam meme. If I had a shirt with a quote from Monster Factory on it, I’d die a happy man. Available on Youtube
Baman Piderman: The dumbest show I have ever watched, but it’s so adorable and stupid and I love it so much. It doesn’t really have a plot, but later episodes allude to the presence of one and I’m upset because there are so many mysteries/questions hinted at and we’ll never get answers because it’s been abandoned. PLEASE watch it. Available on Youtube
Stranger Things: Okay, season 2 was a bit of a let-down imo, but season 1 was ICONIC and the Scoops Troop subplot in season 3 deserved its own freakin spinoff. I’m not joking. I didn’t even like s3 all that much, but the only reason it’s my favourite is because the Scoops Troop plot was so great. People call this show ‘horror’ but I don’t think it’s scary enough for that, although it is admittedly kinda spooky. If you like 80s nostalgia and the horror aesthetic, then I’d give it a watch (Do it for Scoops Troop. Do it for Robin). Available on Netflix
Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart: Despite my overwhelming love for this film, I’ll be the first to admit it’s kinda mediocre. The plot is weird and the romance feels forced, but despite its flaws it manages to be one of my favourite movies. Mostly I just like it for the unique concept and beautiful ending. Also the music is off the par man. Probably because the writer/producer of the movie was the lead singer for a French band called Dionysus (what? I do my research). Available on Netflix
Wakfu: I haven’t seen past season 3, but so far it’s pretty good. You go in thinking it’s just a wholesome action/adventure show about a kid who can create portals - but then it just. Sucks you in. From its bopping theme song to its fantastic found family to the unique worldbuilding, you very quickly fall in love with it. It’s got a cool plot and also talking dragons, and it doesn’t get better than that. Available on Netflix
Mystery Skulls Animated: Technically not a TV show so much as it is a series of animated music videos with a plot, but I’ll be damned if this isn’t one of the greatest things of all time. It’s basically Scooby Doo but if Shaggy got possessed by a demon and killed Fred, causing Fred to become a ghost hellbent on revenge-killing Shaggy in return. And if Scooby was an ancient Japanese spirit that bit off Shaggy’s arm, forcing him to wear a metal prosthetic. Yeah, MSA is wild. It’s only got three videos out so far, with a fourth one coming out this October, but there’s already so much lore! Available on Youtube
Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared: Ah yes, yet another cringey entry on this list. But you know what? Cringe culture is dead!!! And despite its fandom being...like that...DHMIS really is a cool show. Think if Sesame Street was like haunted or something. The episodes about creativity and telling time remain the most unsettling, imo. Definitely worth a watch. Available on Youtube
Inanimate Insanity: Oh boy. Am I seriously recommending you dip your little fingies into the object fandom? Yes. Yes I am. This show is so obscure it makes freakin Detective Conan look popular. At its core it’s a parody of Total Drama Island and Survivor but with anthropomorphized inanimate objects as characters (hence the name). Season 2 is actually really, really good and surprisingly competent. You just gotta get through season 1 first. Available on Youtube
The X-Files: Wow, a live action series on this list? Who woulda thought??? But seriously, this show is really fun. Memes and jokes aside, I love it. Scully and Mulder are fun characters with great chemistry (both platonic and romantic), the Lone Horsemen are hilarious, and every episode is a unique adventure into the most creative acid trips the human mind could conceive of. Phenomenal from start to finish (if you ignore the last season). I have no clue where you would watch this. Pirate it, probably
Buzzfeed Unsolved: Two idiots investigate cold cases and haunted locales while being utter dumbasses about it. You know the “hey demons it’s be ya boi” meme? That came from these guys. Available on Youtube
Kingdom: Ngl, I didn’t go into this expecting zombies. Or for it to take place during Korean feudalism, for that matter. But mediocre dubbing aside, this show has such a clever concept. It takes the zombie apocalypse genre and gives refreshing, unique twists to old tropes that they feel like something new. Seo-bi is my wife and she deserves all the love and appreciation in the world, and those are just Facts. Available on Netflix
My Hero Academia: Superhero high school anime. I personally am not a fan of later episodes/arcs, but the first three seasons are pretty dang good. Diverse, colourful ensemble cast that you easily grow to adore, interesting commentary on disability (although I’m not qualified to give any actual takes on that), and a school curriculum that makes me very, very concerned for the wellbeing of these children. Plus all the superpowers - aka ‘quirks’ - are super imaginative and, well, quirky! I just wish people would stop shipping the main character with his childhood bully...You’ll need to pirate this one too lmao
Danny Phantom: The highlight of this show is its ‘phandom’, because unlike someone (*cough* Butch Hartman), we’re not a bunch of cowards. It’s about a guy who messes around with his parents’ lab stuff and accidentally acquires the ability to die! Well, half-die. He can turn into a ghost and fight other ghosts. Although the show never explores the existential, traumatic fallout of being kinda-sorta-dead, the potential for something deep and emotional is there. Plus there is a LOT of accidental subtext for a Big LGBT+ Metaphor. So much so that the Trans Danny theory is basically canon. Uhhh not available on Netflix anymore so it’s time to whip out your pirate hat, matey
And there you have it! Like I said, I have a lot of TV recommendations. And I just KNOW I’m forgetting a ton, but this is already really long so we’ll have to cut off here.
Thanks for the ask! <3

Les Mis BBC: First Episode First Impression
Well, the actors are as excellent as I hoped they would be!
Cut for Spoilers or whatever term applies here
I really really really wanted to be wrong in all my misgivings about this series. I wanted to be blown out of the water by the whole thing, and have to make repentant posts about the error of my ways.
Alas, this is not a Repentant Post.
I liked some things! The set and scenery and props were all genuinely lovely. I enjoyed the animals everywhere? and the nigh-omnipresent beggars in Paris? Nicely done!  And I really, genuinely, appreciate the constant background French; I know just enough to recognize it when I hear it and it does add something to the atmosphere of the piece.
The actors! What great performances! I want it clear that NOTHING I have to say in the way of character critique is down to them. Oyelowo is as good as I’d hoped he’d be, and that is saying a lot; Collins is doing a wonderful job with Fantine’s shyness and defiant hope; and the bit-part characters like Magloire and Nicolette are really standout.
I really appreciate the inclusion of the Pontmercy Family situation, and Gillenormand being placed in this first episode makes his social relevance more clear IMO; he feels less like random comic relief than he sometimes can. Really, the whole Pontmercy-Gillenormand family conflict is a standout in the episode; Gillenormand’s emotional manipulation of Tiny Marius and  general domestic tyrannizing was very effectively shown (the scene with the toy soldiers!!!), and my heart was broken all over for Marius and for Georges. And Tholomyes is an amazingly perfect skeezeball; his PUA approach is clear and skin-crawling from the start.
*** Real quick Basic Plot Rundown: this episode covers roughly the era from Waterloo to Fantine being abandoned by Tholomyes. I say roughly  because it weirdly changes the timeline of Fantine’s life to sync up more with Valjean’s;he gets released and goes through the silver theft with the Bishop when she’s getting dumped.   The issue with that is of course that in the book Fantine is dumped in 1817 (the year 1817, when it was 1817); Cosette should just about be getting born around the year of Napoleon’s defeat and Valjean’s release, and now I guess she’s about a year old? This doesn’t necessarily have to be a big issue for chronology if the show’s just going to have Fantine and Cosette suffer for an extra two years (though: D:D:D:D: ) , and heaven knows Hugo is shifty on personal timelines, but...Les Mis *does* have certain unavoidable historical events it has to sync up with, so I’ll see how it plays out.
Besides Valjean’s last little while in prison and Fantine’s courtship and abandonment, this first episode covers the Georges-Gillenormand-Marius family situation, with Georges limping home from Waterloo only to be refused access to his son. The show cuts between the three ongoing stories so they all progress more or less in sync. We get far enough along to see Georges watching his son in church without Gillenormand knowing (thanks to Nicolette, who’s the only woman in the Gillenormand house so far), Fantine holding Cosette in their apartment and wondering what they’re going to do after Tholomyes leaves them, and Valjean curled up in the road after robbing Petit Gervais.
Okay, Actual Commentary time! Please assume a Personal Opinion disclaimer for things after this point:P
***
Several of the people I was watching with felt the constant cutting between scenes was jarring or hard to follow; I don’t know if that was the issue but I do think, overall, it just didn’t work as well as it might have. The individual scenes were very brief and the constant bouncing back and forth prevented them from building up any emotional momentum. I think..conceptually, I can see where it would be interesting to twine Valjean, Fantine, and Georges together, in many ways, but none of that thematic connection really came through either (Maybe most disappointingly to me, Valjean’s family is never mentioned, so the potential to connect all three of them as families torn apart by social inequality is lost). It really felt like just Three People Having a Bad Time in France.  it really is hard to follow, because it starts to feel...kinda dull , just a collection of sad anecdotes for no purpose.
The dialogue doesn’t help. When the show leans heavily on Hugo’s writing (sadly, mostly with Tholomyes) , it’s fine, of course. But the original dialogue is clunky, pedantic, and weirdly flat throughout--and utterly lacking in nuance. It just aggressively clunks at points.
Valjean and Javert suffer the most for this. Javert basically states aloud his share of the Confrontation while lecturing a bound Valjean for ...reasons?? It’s never really clear. But hey, here you go, Valjean, have Javert’s entire backstory! ( I should say that Oyelowo almost sells it. He is incredible , and does a great job making Javert feel both his adamant self and humanly affected by the world around him. Just. some of this dialogue. Geez.)  This is also one of those episodes with a weirdly more unpleasant Valjean; he doesn’t assault the Bishop, but he does  much more consciously rob Petit Gervais, laughing as he scares the kid away and grinning as he first examines the coin. He also just...yells at people a lot? and argues with the Bishop and asserts his hatred of mankind very bluntly. I found it hard to believe this Valjean had any of the original’s internalized self-hatred or sense of being  lower than a dog; he seems  solidly outraged by his treatment, and confident of the injustice of it all. Which is definitely fair and all, but just...isn’t quite Valjean.
(Also, as I mentioned above, we don’t really get any of his pre-prison backstory; not an unusual adaptational move, but it sure doesn’t add anything to his motivation.) He seems both more casually violent and less emotionally deep than I’d expect a Valjean to be; I can’t believe , at least not yet, that he’s actually felt the Bishop’s forgiveness as a challenge in any way, even though the Gervais scene ends with him curled in the road--it just doesn’t feel connected.
Fantine does  get more time--unfortunately, and unavoidably, much of that involves Felix:P . There’s also some brief conversation with Favourite about the general situation of grisettes. I think it’s a good addition, and puts in some useful context. (That said, I’m deeply uneasy about the attempt to portray Fantine and Favourite as actual  friends-so much of Fantine’s story comes from her being really truly isolated. If she’d had real friends to help in the crunch, it would change things-- and if she thinks  Favourite is a real friend and then Favourite fades on her, that’s even worse than canon and makes Favourite  worse than in canon. Hence, Unease.)
Visually, there’s ..I won’t say nothing wrong,  and certainly I can have fun for ages going over the details of this or that outfit or hairstyle (and I really do  find the weird combos of Looks to be very distracting; if I knew less about the period it wouldn’t be,no doubt, but I do  know a lot about How It Should Look and the fact that it doesn’t  Quite sometimes makes it all feel like it’s happening in a generic Fantasy 19C) . But there’s no BIG thing wrong, it’s...fine?
It’s just ... it’s just fine. There’s no particular strong visual feel to it, nothing really striking-- unless you count the weird 60s-Acid-flashback-looking timeskip moment. It really does  feel like LM 2012 in its more visually striking moments, and outside of that, it’s just very much a competently filmed period drama made in the last ten years--but that’s all. Without the specific characters, I don’t think there’s a single frame of it I’d recognize as being necessarily Les Mis and not any other random BBC Period Drama.
I guess this is really my problem with the characters and the story too-- it’s...Fine, it’s technically there , but too often there’s no sense of depth or specificity to it. Part of it’s the dialogue, part of it’s the weird pacing/ story jumps , part of it is because no one ever seems to be given a moment to respond-(Fantine crying for all of thirty seconds after being abandoned before the show decides we need her up and talking and dry-eyed was really actively jarring to me)--
There are a hundred little details I could go through but the overall effect for me was just a whole lot of Underwhelming. Yeah, there’s the Pee Scene and the (correct and fitting) visceral discomfort of Everything About Tholomyes (he ,at least, really is a Triumph of Skeeze). But the real problem so far is just that it feels like a visual outline of a story; it’s not pulling together into feeling like a lived world. It’s not taking my heart, even though, despite my surface grousing, I really want  it to.  It’s here, it’s fine, it’s Whatever; but all my really strong emotional reactions either Cringing  or Cooing (over the very excellent babies). My heart didn’t break but the once, with Tiny Marius, and it really really  should have been in pieces by the end of the episode.
I’m of course  going to keep watching, as much of it as I can find a way to see; it’s Les Mis and I really  am  impressed with the actors.  Maybe next episode, when the various stories start to come together a little, it’ll all feel more solid and more memorable. Right now, though, I’m sitting at a solid “ meh” about it.

some stupid reddie radio show hc
• richie is like grimmy on bbc radio on the breakfast show and he's been there so long and is so well loved that the producers kinda just let him do whatever he wants within reason. he's very loudly and publically bisexual and flirts with Every Single Person they bring in. he hates being up at ass-o’clock in the morning every day but it’s a sweet gig and he’s well loved and he loves his crew so he’s fine
• there's this up and coming actor eddie kaspbrak on the scene that richie is scheduled to interview. he’s struggling to come up with questions for him because he hasn’t seen any of the shit he’s in and is usually too tired to watch films at night anymore (a horrible part of the job because richie loves movies)
• eddie’s out of the closet publically, which he chose to do since this is a movie about the aids crisis, but the topic of boyfriends is blacklisted, which richie is fine with. he’s not a gossip. at least, not on live air
• so eddie’s gonna be in a movie with a bunch of well known people and the interview with richie goes. fucking. HORRIBLY.
• despite being his last guest of the day, it’s still 10:30 am because it’s, well, a breakfast show, and they’re both exhausted. eddie is incredibly obviously uncomfortable/nervous, which in turn is making richie uncomfortable/nervous.
• and when both of these guys get nervous, they really get nervous, so richie is, like, visibly sweating, and they visually record all the interviews too so his camera man (stan) is like "FUCKING COOL IT MAN YOUR SWEAT IS MAKING THE LIGHTS SHINE ON YOUR OILY FACE SO BRIGHTLY WE HAD TO TURN OFF YOUR OVERHEAD LAMP" "oh ha ha ha ha is that what happened?"
• richie asks things like “is this your first radio interview?” (god what is this richie’s first rodeo? what a boring question) and “did you get along with your castmates?” and “does ryan gosling really put his money where his mouth is?” but when he gets to "so what was it like being in a movie with all these famous—" eddie cuts the fuck in.
• beverly, eddie’s handler, giving him the singal to cut it the fuck out. don’t fly off the handle. please. eddie kaspbrak does not fly off the handle. he just. tells it like it is. and if that’s rude, well that’s the other person’s problem
• "okay i'm gonna stop you right there. if you're trying to insinuate that i'm not talented enough to carry this movie like all the other interviewers, i—" "no!” richie shouts, eyes widening and cheeks flaring. he glances around nervously and the crew is giving him looks like this is fucking tanking do something now. “that's not it. not at all. aw hell, alright, let's just—" and then richie RIPS UP HIS QUESTION SHEET like the dramatic motherfucker he is
• "uh. did you just rip up your questions?" eddie asks because this is not his first rodeo, actually, fuck you very much records tozier if that is your real name and he knows that no one can see despite the two cameras being pointed at them. the video feed isn’t live, just something to use for press later.
• "i did. screw those stupid questions i asked you. i’m gonna ask you the things i want to know. what makes you excited about this project? what was your method of getting into character considering how intense the story was?" richie asks, propping his elbow up on the desk and cupping his chin in his hand.
• "oh.” eddie blinks in shock, like, oh this guy does have a soul? and he’s actually interested and isn’t just a weird, awkard guy? whoops. okay. eddie can admit when he’s wrong, at least to himself, so he changes gears. “well my uncle who i was close to as a kid was a victim of aids, and so the opportunity to play a character so similar to his story was a privilege as much as it was cathartic..."
• and then it kind of goes off without a hitch from there. they’re really flowing and eddie is getting asked genuinely interesting questions by richie now, things no other interviewer has asked. he’s totally respectful of the topic while still being his dumb, flirtatious self. eddie is charmed. smitten, really. it’s really obnoxious.
• by the end they're both giggling sweetly and richie is doing some light flirting, not the intensely over the top kind he's been known to with his guests.
• towards the end richie goes "well that was our guest, the delicious, delectable eddie kaspbrak. make sure you go see his movie ‘collison’ in theatres this friday, because i promise you're gonna want this pretty face to bring you to tears on the big screen instead of just hear him do it on radio."
• eddie is blushing like mad and leans into the mic and meekly goes "and because i'm talented." "oh of course. AND because he's talented. what song would you like to play us out with, eds?" "what? my name is eddie. did you forget already? not very professional of you.” zoom in on richie’s grin. “i didn’t forget.” “jesus. can i pick anything?" "within reason, you minx! this IS a top 40 station after all." "well it WAS top 40," eddie giggles. he calls over bill who controls the switchboard and whispers something to him and bill chuckles and nods.
• "what are you two up t—" "well folks, that's our show!" eddie announces brightly. richie scoffs, scandalized, but eddie continues. "i hope you enjoy the dulcet sounds of ‘rocks off’ by the rolling stones." "ohhhh you absolute—" "annnnnd we're clear," bill says from across the room, cutting the mics.
• eddie is a stones guy. fuck, richie seriously hit the jackpot here.
• richie takes off his headphones but eddie doesn't, still dancing to the song coming through. richie smiles over at him and waves mike (the lighting guy) over and asks him to have bill put the music through the overhead speakers. bill does and richie comes up beside eddie, bowing dramatically with his hand out. "may i have this dance?" he asks in some ridiculous british accent, and eddie giggles, rolling his eyes and shrugging. "why not?"
• richie spins him around the room, a bit more practiced than eddie would've assumed with a man who has the gangly limbs of a newborn deer. he calls out to bill to play through his emergency playlist and bill shakes his head with a fond smile and gives him a thumbs up.
• "hey..." richie starts nervously, fiddling with the hem of eddie’s shirt, and, like when was the last time he was this nervous? jesus this kid has gotten under his skin, which is exactly why he says, "whaddya say i take you out to dinner?"
• "are you... are you even allowed to court your guests?" "court?” richie grins with an incredulous raise of his eyebrows. “i like that word. well i'm allowed to court whoever i damn well please. it's a free country," richie shoots back with a sassy cock to his hips and a huge grin.
• "i'm... i'm gonna be really busy with press in the next few weeks," eddie responds breathlessly. "oh. sure. no problem," richie bobs his head very dramatically and for an unnecessarily long time, untangling their limbs. "but!" eddie says, reaching for him again. richie lets himself be tugged into eddie’s space easily. "i'll gladly take you out when the junket is over." "you take me out? i thought i was the one who asked you!" "i thought it was a free country," eddie grins. richie sighs softly, pretending to sound put-out but he can't even manage it with the force of his smile. "alright, mr. kaspbrak."
• "you live in la, right?" eddie asks. "i live wherever you want me to," richie says, trying to pull some sort of seductive Voice, eyebrows jumping. eddie gives him a funny look. "uh. yeah, i do. sorry, i just—you make me a little nervous." "wow. the famous records tozier all tongue tied just from a lowly up-and-comer. why would your viewers think?" eddie asks softly, smiling up at him. "i think they're probably jealous they don't get to court you." "i regret using that word," eddie groans. richie laughs, "you should. it's my new favorite."
• "eddie," bev cuts in quietly with a grin, "you've got another interview at—" "shit!" eddie immediately detaches himself from richie, picking up his things, and richie feels like he just got dunked into cold water. "i'll call you!" eddie yells out to richie before pushing his way through the cameras and lights with bev in tow. she grins and wiggles her fingers at richie. "oh shit," richie sighs, smiling dreamily.
• "oh shit is right," stan says from behind the camera, which still has the green light on, the bastard, "you didn't ever give him your number in the first place." "motherfucker!" "and i caught all of that on camera," stan smirks. "oh i WILL kill you," richie says, turning to the camera and futzing with it. "gimmie that tape!" "nah, you've gotten enough spank bank material for the day," stan says, flipping off the camera. "plus, ben got a whole host of good shit on camera two."
• richie gasps. "BEN-YA-MEEN, YOU WOULDNT" ben just shrugs, flipping his camera off too. "i work for no man, only the love that drives us." "fuck off."
• it’s a week later, the movie has premiered and eddie is the talk of the town. the second the video of the already-infamous interview goes live on twitter (cut with generous amounts of flirting thanks to mike, the absolute ASSHOLE), both their mentions blow the fuck up.
• eddie’s twitter is LITERALLY STILL PRIVATE despite the fact that bev keeps insisting he undo because he can’t get verified that way. eddie could care less about being verified; he just wants his privacy. he thought being private would make it so that no one could @ reply him but he soon finds out that he was very, very wrong when a bunch of ppl on twitter start asking him how his date with richie went. he turns off his notifications after this shit storm
• eddie had followed richie back the day of the interview, and he didn’t know the option to keep replies from ppl you follow had stayed on, so he gets a notif right before one of his last interviews on the junket
• @richierecords: @eddie_kaspbrak you in town? i know a great sushi place
• eddie grins, trying to futz with his phone and figure out how to reply
• @eddie_kaspbrak: @richierecords I’m around, but I thought I was taking YOU out to eat? and how do you know I even like sushi?
• he’s deeply glad he’s private so no one but his friends can see this response because when richie sends back “@richierecords: @eddie_kaspbrak everyone with taste likes sushi, and that gucci suit at the premiere showcased yours very nicely. and i think i’m gonna be the one doing the eating out if all goes according to plan 🍑👅💦” while eddie’s in his last interview. there are like 7,000 likes by the time he checks it
• his eyes widen and his cheeks flush and he immediately presses his phone into his chest so bev who’s beside him in the limo going back to the hotel doesn’t see. he may not understand what the peach emoji was for, but the tongue and the spit was certainly image enough
• bev snorts as she types out a text. “no need to be shy, kaspbrak. your suitor certainly isn’t.” eddie sputters indignantly but bev just laughs without looking up from her phone, “i already contacted his manager. luang’s on center street at 8 pm. it’s like a half-price place and the paps are told to stay the fuck away or they’re getting sued, but seriously? half price? that’s tactless. your boy has no manners. i’m not dealing with you getting food poisoning so be fucking careful.”
• “he’s not my boy! he’s not my anything!” eddie shrieks. bev winces, “stop being shrill at me, i did not do this. you and your libido did.” “i’m barely even attracted to him,” eddie huffs, tapping out a reply to richie of “You stupid motherfucker.”
• “oh, sure, alright,” bev snorts. “we do share a wall in these hotels you know, and they’re unfortunately not very thick. i’m sure it’s very lonely out there for your right hand and your imagination.” “i will fuck you up, marsh, don’t test me,” but then he grins slyly. “and i need both hands for what i get up to, actually.” “oh!” beverly laughs, delighted, finally putting her phone down. “i’d give you a high five, but i don’t need your cum on me. that ain’t in my job description, puddin’.” “FUCK OFF I HAVEN’T MASTURBATED SINCE LAST NIGHT AND I HAVE WASHED MY HANDS SIX TIMES SINCE THEN.”
• their driver chokes on his spit from the front seat and eddie groans into his hands as beverly puts the divider up and laughs

Audio
9/2/20:  It was 50 years ago... okay we don’t even know the month on this one, but certainly 1970 per Discogs, and they’re pretty reliable.  $50+ bucks for this disc, whew!!  Old Lee is hard to find... oh yeah, this was a soundtrack for an elusive film called ‘Cowboy In Sweden’... I kinda want to see it, but it’s not even on YouTube.  We have Lee Hazlewood entering the 1970s with another fucking weird album... it’s like Country music on qualudes... well I can’t say that I’ve never done those... but it sounds like it’s being filtered through a... a... filter of some sort.  Take my favorite tune on here ‘Hey Cowboy’... upon first listen I can see it being a party-clearer... but when you listen to the lyrics and the fun wordplay between Lee and the ‘little Swedish girl’ (Nina Lizell), and the building mid-tempo wall of sound, it’s hard not to be affected... gives me damn goosebumps, especially on headphones.... (her) ‘Where you’d get that horse? / (him) ‘from the Man, of course’ gets me every time.  But there are other neat gems including the opening track ‘Pray Them Bars Away’... sounds a bit like early sixties Johnny Cash here... I guess it’s because of those weird little prison-y sound effects.  Also, and a song I only recently discovered,’Cold Hard Times’ is exactly that... man is it a downer, but it’s fucking powerful... ‘whistling for a dog named kindness that you’ll never find’... I can’t figure it out exactly what makes a Lee song, but that lyric is rather exemplary.  The other songs here are oddball country stuff with horns and strings... not quite as good, but if you like Lee Hazlewood, you’ll probably like this.  Also, I’ve included a cool clip from an old BBC show featuring Lee singing ‘Cold Hard Times’ with a little change in the last verse.  Love it!

Watching The Lie of the Land for the first time
Episode aired more than two weeks ago, still, spoilers below the cut
-Well the monks might have caused a ton of bullshit in the last episode but at least they haven’t been complete tyrants in the alternate history they made
-As in, they didn’t kill the entire effing planet
-exCUSE ME THE DOCTOR DEFEATED THE DALEKS AND WHATNOT
Tumblr media
Earth History v.2, featuring BBC’s Photoshop skills.
-ah nevermind
Tumblr media
Featuring... THE MONK OF RIO instead of Jesus
Tumblr media
oh shit doctor
-Who made you record this
-Why
-Are you being tortured right now
-Did someone lock you up
Tumblr media
the fuck WHAT DID THEY DO
-...wow
-So for some reason she is not affected by the monks and seeing through the false history
Tumblr media
BILL??!!?!
-Okay but how long did it take Pearl Mackie to straighten her hair
Tumblr media
Stop with the glitches, you’re freaking me out
Tumblr media
Two statues in one town is a bit too much don’t you think
Tumblr media
DOCTOR STOP FREAKING ME OUT WITH THAT SMILE AND THAT TONE OF VOICE
-It’s been a while since I was this worried about an episode even before the intros
Tumblr media
BILL’S MUM IS ALIVE?!!
-Well this is one dystopian univese.
-Okay, I’m actually tearing up. Not downright crying, I don’t really do that for some reason (and if I say something like I’M CRYIGHN;; anywhere it’s just a metaphor) but this.
-Imagine the pain of being one of the few, if not the only one, in this entire world who knows what actually happened, but no one believes you nor is it wise for your own being if you let loose your knowledge. Imagine watching the people you might have known, the people you knew once shared the same knowledge and lived in the same universe as you did, completely brainwashed, and not even aware of it. You’re the only one around who knows that things had been better for them.
-And your college professor/alien is (apparently) locked up in an interrogation chamber somewhere and forced to make propaganda videos.
-Come back, Doctor. Please come back.
-...And then your mother suddenly disappears...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
tHANK GOODNESS (but also hahahahasd)
Tumblr media
aw yiss
-the what now
-so Bill’s mum wasn’t actually there?
-That’s... really sad.
-I think you guys should cover your windows with your curtains
-”Found it in the Tardis. Yeah, it was in one of the drawers with some old takeaway menus and fifty Danish krone.”
-Bill stop punching Nardole <:P
-”His son is serving ten years in a labour camp for possession of a box of comics.”
-Well that’s bullshit, I take back what I said about the Monks earlier. Literally the only thing they did well is not committing genocide (unless they edged on Hitler to cause the Holocaust.)
Tumblr media
Yikes. Quite the ominous entrance for a ‘savior’ type of species, wouldn’t you say?
Tumblr media
I have bad feelings already. Whovian intuition
-Okay, so if they locked him up and forced him to do broadcasts all day that would be horrible but WHAT IF HE WAS BRAINWASHED TOO OR CONTROLLED IN SOME WAY, THAT WOULD BE EVEN WORSE
-WHAT IF BILL AND NARDOLE WALK IN TO FINS THE DOCTOR SEEMINGLY COMPLETELY SIDING WITH THE MONKS
-I HAVE THE EPISODE ON PAUSE AND I AM TAKING MY TIME TO FREAK OUT
-Monk: “Hello, who is this?”  Doctor: “Epsilon. Fire. Jupiter. Lily.“  Monk: “K gotcha fam, I’m going over”
Tumblr media
Why is his suit so ragged again
-(Okay, at this point I went away for lunch, and I had to close all windows because I’m using a library computer, and when I came back and tried to find the approximate point where I left off I accidentally ran into the regeneration bit - the one they showed in the trailer - and a little bit of me died on the spot)
-”It's like that time we discovered that huge fish creature in the, in the Seine in Paris.”  ...?
-”And whose fault was that, huh? I didn't ask for my sight back. No, you took it upon yourself to ignore me, to do what you thought was best. All I can say is that we are lucky it was a benevolent race like the Monks, not the Daleks. Yes, I know the Monks are ruthless. I get that. Yes, they play with history and I'm not exactly thrilled about that. But they bring peace and order.“ Ooph.
-But I can’t shake off the feeling that the Monks aren’t just here out of good will, and they’re actually planning something bad for humanity for their own gain. Because so far none of their actions seem to directly benefit them in any way except gaining humanity’s respect, and this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense since they have shown themselves to be not that benevolent.
-I’m very confused and worried
Tumblr media
?!!!?!1?!?!?!!?11?!??what?!?!?!???!!
Tumblr media
?!??!!?!?1?!!?!??!?!?!???ㅇㅁㅇ??!?!?!!!!
-...what the fuck....
Tumblr media
Holy shit...
-So yeah I know he’s not regenerating until the finale or the Christmas special but my worry levels have gone all the way up to 100 nonetheless
Tumblr media
SHIT it’s the bit from the trailer
-Okay
Tumblr media
HUEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
-Twelve, your Ten is showing.
Tumblr media
what  thank fucking goodness
Tumblr media
me right now
Tumblr media
the owl is proud.
-he is a proud alien pap.
-Anyway, *breathes in* *breathes out* THANK FUCKING GOODNESS.
-”And there's loads of them. I could do with a Strepsil.“  I looked it up and Strepsil’s a throat pill. Okay. I get the joke now.
-(I don’t really get how guns work but what does ‘blank’ ammo exactly mean? Bill fired the gun and something came out, didn’t it?)
-”I called the kitchen. Oh, could you pop down and explain it to them? They're going to be really confused.“
-In that case, lemme do this again:  Cook: “Hello, what I do for you?”  Doctor: “Epsilon. Fire. Jupiter. Lily.“  Cook: “...???”
-”Oh my God I am going to beat the SH-”
-Second time Bill has ALMOST spoken the s- word in this show y’all
-”The only person I know almost as smart as me.”  “Oh. Oh, I see. Blimey. Has it really come to that?“
-Oh boy.  Are we gonna see Missy?
-”We could have snuck back in, but the Doctor being the Doctor...”
Tumblr media
*hijacks huge ship* *runs - or sails - straight into a bridge* *crazed laughter* Yep, that’s the Doctor alright.
-I think I hear a bit of 11′s theme in there too
-”OH MAN I HAVEN’T DONE THIS IN YEARS”  “Doctor you were in there for only six months”
-Kinda random, but I’m wondering if they ever repaired the wall after the UN broke into his office.
Tumblr media
THE VAULT IS FINALLY OPEN
-AFTER SEVEN EPISODES IT’S OPEN
-”But it’s just a woman.”  you think
-"The way you and Nardole have been carrying on, I thought you had some kind of monster in here, or something!”  “I do.”
-”Wait a sec. Why have you got a woman locked in a vault? Because even I think that's weird, and I've been attacked by a puddle.“  “She's going cold turkey from being bad.”
-THE STATUES ACTUALLY HAD A PURPOSE
-THERE WAS A REASON THEY HAD ALL THOSE STUPID GODDAMN STUATUES
-FORESHADOWING
-”The Monks put up statues in every town square, and every park, and every playground.”  ...Playgrounds. Really.
-”Oh well then it’s sorted. Just kill them.”  Welp
Tumblr media
there goes that plan
-”Well, at this point, all that was left of the bloodline was a wee girl, and I just pushed her into a volcano.“  oh wow
-”You'd be a husk. Completely and irrevocably brain-dead. You couldn't even get on Celebrity Love Island.“  AHAHAHAHAHHAHAA
-Did the Doctor just walk through that forcefield
-Well what was the point of said forcefield
Tumblr media
missy is taller than twelve??
-”I could even throw in some other stuff. The things that I could change just by thinking. Racism. People who talk in cinemas.”  Please do
-”Are you sure? This would be an incredibly sophisticated transmitter, powerful enough to beam highly detailed propaganda to the entire world twenty four hours a day, and you're going to plug your brain into it?” “I know. It doesn't stand a chance.“  WOOHOO!
-”Now, have you all got your stereo headphone i--thing?“
-Oh shit that guy’s player is broken
Tumblr media
Nardole has stars on his earphones :D
-Tarovian Neck Pinch. Yeah, I er, I studied their martial arts for a while, actually. Yeah, reached the level of Brown Tabard. Can't do it with this hand though. Kind of bugs me. Course, this wasn't my original hand, as you know. I won this in a game of -- yeah, let's crack on.”
Tumblr media
Interesting visuals.
Tumblr media
oh holy shit
-holy shit that’s one hell of a mindpower
Tumblr media
HE’S DOWN, I REPEAT, THE DOCTOR IS DOWN!!
-”I don't want our last conversation to be this.”  ”I don't want this to be our last conversation.”
-Oh god it’s dark again
-dsssaskkldasjkadsjkladjkl
Tumblr media
one ugly head you got there
Tumblr media
oh shit
-I’m stoked for two reasons:  1. This whole scene.  2. The fact that the whole Bill’s mum side story in episode 1 was foreshadowing.
Tumblr media
they’re still at it
-”Bill’s mum, you just went viral.”
Tumblr media
haha what
-The pyramid was a spaceship? I wasn’t expecting that.
Tumblr media
“You, appalling hair.”
-Well excuse me let me remind you of your sixth incarnation
-And tbh that hair kinda looks like Missy’s
-”Er, we thought they were just like filming something here or something?“  Realistic dialogue, that’s actually what a late teen would say, 10/10
-”Thank you. Very helpful. Now go away, or something.“  HA HA HA
-The funny thing is that at the moment the Doctor says “-or something” in the episode, distant laughter can be heard.
-”Why do you put up with us, then?”  "In amongst seven billion, there's someone like you. That's why I put up with the rest of them.“  Aww.
Tumblr media
Awwwww
Tumblr media
She’s- crying? She’s, actually, crying.
Tumblr media
“I keep remembering all the people I've killed. Every day I think of more. Being bad, being bad drowned that out. I didn't know I even knew their names. You didn't tell me about this bit.” “I'm sorry, but this is good.” ... "Okay.”

6/6/21
I’ve now seen all of the extended The Fellowship of The Ring. Admittedly I can see why most of the snippets were cut but I loved them anyway. I’m excited to see the other extended films.
Karone has been a good addition to the team so far. It’s still weird to realize I’m almost done with the boxed sets. I’m still deciding on how to celebrate the 30th anniversary in 2023. Maybe I’ll do like I’m doing with SG-1: pick a favorite episode per season.
Ultra Adventures continues to be a delight. I have obtained all of Ultra Legends so I’ll be able to watch all of the Sun & Moon era! There are a couple of other seasons I have bought to see later.
In contrast, BBC Merlin’s fifth season continues to exasperate me. Quite possibly I’ll need to get through it before I can watch ST: TOS, XWP, & OUAT. I’m using too much mental energy being frustrated to be able to see new media or media I know I’ll have mixed feelings on (sorry, OUAT, but it’s true).
Edit 1: anyone have tips on getting past this brain block?
Well, I did see Gargoyles’ first episode out of curiosity. It was fantastic but again, I don’t have a lot of bandwidth for new shows right now. But it’s definitely high on my to-watch list now.
I re-watched the pair of Shining Time Station episodes with David Hewlett as Ted Typo. Some elements really haven’t aged well, but the political satire in the re-election episode has remained truly biting. And David is truly adorkable in them. It’s also worth noting that Hewlett isn’t the only SGA connection as Rachel Luttrell’s little sister Erica plays Kara.
Edit 2: On that note, I will read Blood Ties later this week. I’m just worried about how I’ll react to it, despite knowing that it’ll all end okay for them. And I know re-watching “Abyss” will be sad but I do want to see it again.
Also... is anyone else having hiccups with their tags lately? I mean, more than usual. It’s kinda worrying.
