I donât think thereâs any traitors, the traitor theory actually sucks
If itâs gonna happen a betrayal I believe itâs going to happen during live, I donât think a betrayal can be hidden under the players circumstances
How can you blame q!Max to be the traitor? When heâs the one who started all the investigations after the loss of his child?
How can you blame q!Foolish to be the traitor? When he clearly has a persona to face the federation, being the perfect model for them and yet being part of the order?
How can you blame q!Jaiden to be the traitor? When sheâs a grieving mother and swore to protect the eggs and wants safety for everyone in the island?
The traitor theory sucks hard man, qsmp is about love
All these people are united, and despite their differences they all are there to protect who they love
#IsaSpeaks#I kept thinking about yesterday#q!Baghera and q!Bad are suspicious of her#even though q!Jaiden wants to protect the eggs as much as anyone else#she wants safety for everyone#the federation set her up#qsmp#Quackity smp#smp

It seems that everyone believes blue team is the cursed team. But how we connected the dots seems too easy.
Like suspiciously easy.
#qsmp#I know the admins are capable of doing much more complex puzzles and riddles#this one just feels too easy#would they really make the answer so easy to figure out?#Dapper telling bbh to win feels like a red herring#I feel like the federation or evil eye is setting the islanders up#I don't believe those videos are from the eggs they just feel too staged

NIKI NIHACHU AND RAINDUO COMMUNITY WON TODAY
okay anon i definitely don't wanna kill your excitement but i think it's worth saying at this point we don't know what niki will want to do on the qsmp and which direction she will want to take her gameplay or story, and that includes which other streamers she'll want to interact with and/or storytell with on the server. definitely myself as someone who has liked rainduo's cc dynamic and dynamic on other servers, i don't want to pigeonhole niki into certain expectations on this server (especially around other ccs, and esp as niki has had this problem with male ccs before), as i feel like it's setting her up to fail and yourself up for disappointment
THAT BEING SAID: NIHACHU COMMUNITY IS FUCKING WINNING TODAY
#im sorry to use you as a PSA springboard anon đ but i did have this thought earlier and wanted to voice it#THAT BEING SAID. STILL SO EXCITED#i started thinking about what if niki takes an angle that has history with the federation or how she'll fit in w the gov#whether she'll have an egg or what her thoughts will be on the eggs!!! being a newcomer what will shape her (being qniki's) opinions of thi#mysterious island!!!! and smoke almost came out of my ears from thinking so hard#asks#now don't get me wrong if they hang out on the server i will be so so happy also!! but i don't want to set up any expectations yk

The discussions around whether or not to vote for Kamala keep being dominated by very loud voices shouting that anyone who advocates for her âjust doesn't care about Palestine!â and âis willing to overlook genocide!â and âhas no moral backbone at all!â And while some of these voices will be bots, trolls, psyops - we know that this happens; we know that trying to persuade progressives to split the vote or not vote at all is a strategy employed by hostile actors - of course many of them won't be. But what this rhetoric does is continually force the âyou should vote for herâ crowd onto the back foot of having to go to great lengths writing entire essays justifying their choice, while the âdon't vote/vote third partyâ crowd is basically never asked to justify their choice. It frames voting for Kamala as a deeply morally compromised position that requires extensive justification while framing not voting or voting third party as the neutral and morally clean stance.
So here's another way of looking at it. How much are you willing to accept in order to feel like you're not compromising your morals on one issue?
Are you willing to accept the 24% rise in maternal deaths - and 39% increase for Black women - that is expected under a federal abortion ban, according to the Centre for American Progress? Those percentages represent real people who are alive now who would die if the folks behind Project 2025 get their way with reproductive healthcare.
Are you willing to accept the massive acceleration of climate change that would result from the scrapping of all climate legislation? We don't have time to fuck around with the environment. A gutting of climate policy and a prioritisation of fossil fuel profits, which is explicitly promised by Trump, would set the entire world back years - years that we don't have.
Are you willing to accept the classification of transgender visibility as inherently âpornographicâ and thus the removal of trans people from public life? Are you willing to accept the total elimination of legal routes for gender-affirming care? The people behind the Trump campaign want to drive queer and trans people back underground, back into the closet, back into âcriminalityâ. This will kill people. And it's maddening that caring about this gets called âprioritising white gays over brown people abroadâ as if it's not BIPOC queer and trans Americans who will suffer the most from legislative queer- and transphobia, as they always do.
Are you willing to accept the domestic deployment of the military to crack down on protests and enforce racist immigration policy? I'm sure it's going to be very easy to convince huge numbers of normal people to turn up to protests and get involved in political organising when doing so may well involve facing down an army deployed by a hardcore authoritarian operating under the precedent that nothing he does as president can ever be illegal.
Are you willing to accept a president who openly talks about wanting to be a dictator, plans on massively expanding presidential powers, dehumanises his political enemies and wants the DOJ to âgo after themâ, and assures his supporters they won't have to vote again? If you can't see the danger of this staring you right in the face, I don't know what to tell you. Allowing a wannabe dictator to take control of the most powerful country on earth would be absolutely disastrous for the entire world.
Are you willing to accept an enormous uptick in fascism and far-right authoritarianism worldwide? The far right in America has huge influence over an entire international network of âanti-globalistsâ, hardcore anti-immigrant xenophobes, transphobic extremists, and straight-up fascists. Success in America aids and emboldens these people everywhere.
Are you willing to accept an enormous number of preventable deaths if America faces a crisis in the next four years: a public health emergency, a natural disaster, an ecological catastrophe? We all saw how Trump handled Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. We all saw how Trump handled Covid-19. He fanned the flames of disaster with a constant flow of medical misinformation and an unspeakably dangerous undermining of public health experts. It's estimated that 40% of US pandemic deaths could have been avoided if the death rates had corresponded to those in other high-income countries. That amounts to nearly half a million people. One study from January 2021 estimated between around 4,200 and 12,200 preventable deaths attributable purely to Trump's statements about masks. We're highly unlikely to face another global pandemic in the next few years but who knows what crises are coming down the pipeline?
Are you willing to accept the attempted deportation of millions - millions - of undocumented people? This is ârounding people up and throwing them into camps where no one ever hears from them againâ territory. That's a blueprint for genocide right there and it's a core tenet of both Trump's personal policy and Project 2025. And of course they wouldn't be going after white people. They most likely wouldn't even restrict their tyranny to people who are actually undocumented. Anyone racially othered as an âimmigrantâ would be at risk from this.
Are you willing to accept not just the continuation of the current situation in Palestine, but the absolute annihilation of Gaza and the obliteration of any hope for imminent peace? There is no way that Trump and the people behind him would not be catastrophically worse for Gaza than Kamala or even Biden. Only recently he was telling donors behind closed doors that he wanted to âset the [Palestinian] movement back 25 or 30 yearsâ and that âany student that protests, I throw them out of the countryâ. This is not a man who can be pushed in a direction more conducive to peace and justice. This is a man who listens to his wealthy donors, his Christian nationalist Republican allies, and himself.
Are you willing to accept a much heightened risk of nuclear war? Obviously this is hardly a Trump policy promise. But I can't think of a single president since the Cold War who is more likely to deploy nuclear weapons, given how casually he talks about wanting to use them and how erratic and unstable he can be in his dealings with foreign leaders. To quote Foreign Policy only this year, âTrump told a crowd in January that one of the reasons he needed immunity was so that he couldnât be indicted for using nuclear weapons on a city.â That's reassuring. I'm not even in the US and I remember four years of constant background low-level terror that Trump would take offence at something some foreign leader said or think that he needs to personally intervene in some military situation to âsort it outâ and decide to launch the entire world into nuclear war. No one sane on earth wants the most powerful person on the planet to be as trigger-happy and careless with human life as he is, especially if he's running the White House like a dictator with no one ever telling him no. But depending on what Americans do in November, he may well be inflicted again on all of us, and I guess we'll all just have to hope that he doesn't do the worst thing imaginable.
âBut I don't want those things! Stop accusing me of supporting things I don't support!â Yes, of course you don't want those things. None of us does. No one's saying that you actively support them. No one's accusing you of wanting Black women to die from ectopic pregnancies or of wanting to throw Hispanic people in immigrant detention centres or of wanting trans people to be outlawed (unlike, I must point out, the extremely emotive and personal accusations that get thrown around about âwanting Palestinian children to dieâ if you encourage people to vote for Kamala).
But if you're advocating against voting for Kamala, you are clearly willing to accept them as possible consequences of your actions. That is the deal you're making. If a terrible thing happening is the clear and easily foreseeable outcome of your action (or in the case of not voting, inaction), in a way that could have been prevented by taking a different and just as easy action, you are partly responsible for that consequence. (And no, it's not âa fear campaignâ to warn people about things he's said, things he wants to do, and plans drawn up by his close allies. This is not âoooh the Democrats are trying to bully you into voting for them by making him out to be really bad so you'll feel scared and vote for Kamala!â He is really bad, in obvious and documented and irrefutable ways.)
And if you believe that âboth parties are the same on Gazaâ (which, you know, they really aren't, but let's just pretend that they are) then presumably you accept that the horrors being committed there will continue, in the immediate term anyway, regardless of who wins the presidency. Because there really isn't some third option that will appear and do everything we want. It's going to be one of those two. And we can talk all day about wanting a better system or how unfair it is that every presidential election only ever has two viable candidates and how small the Overton window is and all that but hell, we are less than eighty days out from the election; none of that is going to get fixed between now and November. Electoral reform is a long-term (but important!) goal, not something that can be effected in the span of a couple of months by telling people online to vote third party. There is no âinstant ceasefire and peace negotiationâ button that we're callously overlooking by encouraging people to vote for Kamala. (My god, if there was, we would all be pressing it.)
If we're suggesting people vote for her, it's not that we âare willing to overlook genocideâ or âdon't care about sacrificing brown people abroadâ or whatever. Nothing is being âoverlookedâ here. It's that we're simply not willing to accept everything else in this post and more on top of continued atrocities in Gaza. We're not willing to take Trump and his godawful far-right authoritarian agenda as an acceptable consequence of feeling like we have the moral high ground on Palestine. I cannot stress enough that if Kamala doesn't win, we - we all, in the whole world - get Trump. Are you willing to accept that?
And one more point to address: I've seen too many people act frighteningly flippant and naĂŻve about terrible things Trump or his campaign want to do, with the idea that people will simply be able to prevent all these bad things by âorganisingâ and âprotestingâ and âcollective actionâ. âI'm not willing to accept these things; that's why I'll fight them tooth and nail every day of their administrationâ - OK but if you're not even willing to cast a vote then I have doubts about your ability to form âthe Resistanceâ, which by the way would have to involve cooperation with people of lots of progressive political stripes in order to have the manpower to be effective, and if you're so committed to political purity that you view temporarily lending your support to Kamala at the ballot box as an untenable betrayal of everything you stand for then forgive me for also doubting your ability to productively cooperate with allies on the ground with whom you don't 100% agree. Plus, if the Trump campaign gets its way, American progressives would be kept so busy trying to put out about twenty different fires at once that you'd be able to accomplish very little. Maybe you get them to soften their stance on trans healthcare but oh shit, the climate policies are still in place. But more importantly, how many people do you think will protest for abortion rights if doing so means staring down a gun? Or organise to protect their neighbours from deportation if doing so means being thrown in prison yourself? And OK, maybe you're sure that you will, but history has shown us time and time again that most people won't. Most people aren't willing to face that kind of personal risk. And a tiny number of lefties willing to risk incarceration or death to protect undocumented people or trans people or whatever other groups are targeted is sadly not enough to prevent the horrors from happening. That is small fry compared to the full might of a determined state. Of course if the worst happens and Trump wins then you should do what you can to mitigate the harm; I'm not saying you shouldn't. But really the time to act is now. You have an opportunity right here to mitigate the harm and it's called ânot letting him get electedâ. Act now to prevent that kind of horrific authoritarian situation from developing in the first place; don't sit this one out under the naĂŻve belief that âwe'll be able to stop it if it happensâ. You won't.

Here is a brief summary of what is happening in Wikipedia right now:
In the last few years (3-4 years) the WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America, which was originally created to improve the quality and coverage of native issues and native articles on wikipedia, has been hijacked by a small number of users with an extremist agenda. They have been working diligently over the last few years to change the definition of both what it means to be an Indigenous American and even what it means to be state and federally recognized.
The four or five key players (Mainly Editor Yuchitown, Bohemian Baltimore, ARoseWolf, (now retired editor CorbieVreccan, Netherzone and Oncamera) who are part of the âNative American Articles Improvement Projectâ started implementing these changes slowly, but they started pursuing their goals aggressively after November 2023, when state-recognized tribes retained their voting rights in NCAI. Essentially, after the movement to delegitimize state-recognized tribes failed officially, the key players doubled down on altering and controlling the flow of information about Native Americans through Wikipedia.
The talk page of Lily Gladstoneâs article has a relevant discussion here. Initially, the leaders of the WikiProject removed any reference to her being a âNative American Actressâ and instead had her as âSelf-identifying as Blackfootâ and âSelf-identifying as Nez Perceâ because her blood quantum was too low to be enrolled in either tribe.
You can see some of the discussion here:
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Lily_Gladstone
Eventually they relented and changed her category to being âOf Nez Perce Descentâ but you can see in the discussion that they are referring to an article that these editors (Yuchitown, Bohemian Baltimore, and CorbieVreccan) themselves appeared to have mostly written and revised:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_identity_in_the_United_States
This statement is very much at odds with even the governmentâs description, as seen below;
The DOJ Office of Tribal Justice Office on their webpage âFrequently Asked Questions About Native Americanâ, question âWho is an American Indian or Alaskan Nativeâ states:
âAs a general principle, an Indian is a person who is of some degree Indian blood and is recognized as an Indian by a Tribe and/or the United States. No single federal or tribal criterion establishes a person's identity as an Indian. Government agencies use differing criteria to determine eligibility for programs and services. Tribes also have varying eligibility criteria for membership.â
In addition, âListâ pages have been created on Wikipedia for federally and state recognized tribes. The Wikipedia âListâ page for state-recognized tribes is inaccurate in its interpretation of state recognition and not supported by expert reliable sources--(1) Cohenâs Handbook of Federal Indian Law 2012 edition, (2) NCSL.org current stand on state recognition (not the archived list from 2017 which NCSL no longer supports), (3) Koenig & Steinâs paper âFederalism and the State Recognition of Native American Tribes: a survey of state-recognized tribes and state recognition processes across the United Statesâ (both 2008 & updated 2013 in book â Recognition, sovereignty struggles, and indigenous rights in the United States: A sourcebookâ)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State-recognized_tribes_in_the_United_States
State-recognized tribes who have received recognition through less formal but acceptable means have been moved from the Wikipedia list page on state-recognized tribes to the Wikipedia list page of unrecognized or self-identifying organizations.
The Wiki page "List of organizations that self-identify as Native American tribes", in particular, is being used to purposely defame legitimate Native American individuals who are members of the tribes/Native communities that are on this list.Â
By the parameters set up on Wikipedia, only the colonizerâs governments can acknowledge who is Native American through either federal recognition or state recognition. If an individual is not a member of a federally or state-recognized tribe, then it is determined that they cannot be Native American and are, instead, considered âself-identifyingâ or only âa descendant of ...â (example Lily Gladstone). As a result, Native individuals are currently being tagged as âself-identifyingâ and their names are put on âlistâ pages that strongly imply they are âpretendâ Indians.
These editors have indicated that they would like âself-identificationâ to be the default setting for any people who they deem do not fit within the parameters that they themselves created within Wikipedia.
Moreof, these editors are admin and senior editors within the Wikiproject Indigenous Peoples of North America, and are being called in specifically to weigh on Native Identity, and any project involving any Indigenous Group.
Any attempt to correct misinformation, add information, or change any of these articles is often met with being blocked, reported for various offenses, or reported for having a Conflict of Interest, whether or not that is actually applicable. They have use this strategically in many different pages for many different individuals and groups within the scope of their Wikiprojects.
While changing things in Wikipedia does not change the truth, it is a way to control how most people take in information, and thus they hope to manipulate the narrative to better suit their goals.
This is quick and messy but:
Here is a link to the google document with the other state recognized tribes (Including yours) that were edited by these editors. This is an incomplete list so far that only goes back to September 2023 but I am going to add to it. If you can add to your own part of this list, and send your complaints and information to the arbitrator committee (the email is below) with the involved editors, this will help our case.
The more tribes who complain, and the more Wikipedia editors complain, the better our case will be.Â
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YNDEjLTrrZ_mMIRCVxtvt69FwCYpJWKs71lBhWa5a9M/edit?usp=sharing
The place to make complaints on Wikipedia is oversight-en-wpwikipedia.org , and
arbcom-enwikimedia.org . It is most helpful to have an editing account on Wikipedia, because Yuchitown and the others will try to defend themselves using Wikipedia methodology and make anyone who confronts them look like the aggressor (see the other tribes who tried to fight back on Wikipedia I found).
The more people and tribes make complaints the more likely it is that this will work and we can rid ourselves of these monsters.
Some of the tribes I have spoken to are taking legal action against these editors. Any groups affected by their policies should also reach out to the news to make knowledge of this more widespread.
Thank you

Help Two Disabled Trans Women Get Back On Their Feet
My federal income tax withheld wasn't properly updated by my employer on account of their bookkeeping which means I owe $1000 to the IRS by the end of July. I also had to go through intensive surgery at the end of February to fix a hernia which had caught my left testicle up in it, with a good portion of the left side of my abdomen being covered with a hernia mesh. Despite having been supposed to be healed up after 8 weeks, I have surpassed my employers 180 day limit for a leave of absence of which I wasn't informed of. Being terminated from my job leaves me with no health insurance and no way to continue paying for my doctor's appointments and treatments, all this as I am still paying $270 a month for my car and am possibly at risk of losing because I don't have a reliable way to pay for anything. On top of this, my girlfriend (@stcecilia) has recently moved in after being kicked out by a transphobic landlord and is dealing with worsening undiagnosed pain and sickness which has left her unable to work. Unfortunately she was relying on me getting better which isn't happening right now, and she's having to take care of me instead because of the condition I was left in with severe nerve pain the past few months leaving me stuck in a chair. We are both living with my parents and I can't even begin to put into words how much this is affecting both my girlfriend and I's mental health and physical well being along with everything else, with the way the house is always dirty, my step-mother constantly starting arguments with anyone who comes near her and constantly vitriolic and everyone else arguing and fighting with each other because of this.
It's hard to set a precise goal without it being subject to change for what we need as of right now but at least $1800 would help to pay my federal taxes and keep my car for the next two months and keep us on our feet for the time being.
Any amount helps towards paying off what we owe and moving closer to getting out of this house and into a better living situation and making sure we're properly cared for.

"We all deserve the right to protect and keep ourselves safe. Implementing a mask ban is not only an infringement on our human rights but also extremely ableist and inconsiderate of those disabled or immunocompromised.
. . .
About 1 in 5 adult New Yorkers have a disability. If a mask ban were to be implemented, spaces such as stores and restaurants might ban masking or set up mask-removal policy. Thatâs 1 in 5 adults no longer able to shop in public along with others, or participate in gatherings.
Forcing immunocompromised people to remove their face masks would likely violate the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and the New York State Human Rights Law. As a member of ACT UP NY, itâs always my goal to fight for human rights such as healthcare.
Those that are HIV+ are 8% more likely to be hospitalized due to COVlD than those that arenât and are also at an increased risk of developing Long COVlD.
Masking SAVES LIVES. Masking is community care.â
Behind the Powecom KN95 is Serita @_seritasargent_ and her friend Briâanna @lanoirede.jpg holding the #StopMaskBans sign.
MaskTogetherAmerica encourages everyone to speak up and write to elected officials to demand they oppose the anti-mask bills S9867/A10057 and S9194! We need to defend our right to masks.

Only a few minutes into Bidenâs speech, several protesters interrupted, calling for a cease-fire in Israelâs U.S.-backed military operation in Gaza, which has killed more than 28,000 Palestinians and set off a maternal and reproductive health crisis. The president was interrupted over a dozen times as security struggled to wrangle protesters who were screaming âGenocide Joe!â and demanding a cease-fire. Hundreds of Biden supporters tried to drown out the protesters by clapping and chanting, âFour more years!â âIsrael kills two mothers every hour in Gaza! Cease-fire now! End the genocide!â one protester yelled at Biden, who was standing on stage in front of a massive âRestore Roeâ banner and flanked by supporters holding âDefend choiceâ signs. A video of the event shows Alexis McGill Johnson, the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, clad in her trademark hot-pink pantsuit, standing up and chanting âFour more years!â as security dragged the shouting protester out. It was a real-time illustration of the growing rift in the reproductive rights movement during an election year that will determine the future of reproductive health in the U.S.
Basic prenatal care, such as treating anemia, is nonexistent, causing more women to die during childbirth and more babies born prematurely, many of whom die without access to hospital incubators. Food shortages are leaving pregnant women, new mothers and newborns malnourished. And a lack of menstrual hygiene products has caused an increase in infections in women and girls. âNo one is making the connection that thereâs a huge repro genocide happening in Gaza that we are funding, and the big repro organizations that are endorsing him are pretending like itâs not happening,â one leader who has met with the Biden administration on abortion issues told HuffPost. Most of the workers who spoke with HuffPost asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation from their employers or others in the reproductive rights field.

For years, the people of the Kitasoo/Xaiâxais First Nation watched over their waters and waited. They had spent nearly two decades working with Canadaâs federal government to negotiate protections for Kitasu Bay, an area off the coast of British Columbia that was vulnerable to overfishing.
But the discussions never seemed to go anywhere. First, they broke down over pushback from the fishing industry, then over a planned oil tanker route directly through Kitasoo/Xaiâxais waters.
âWe were getting really frustrated with the federal government. They kept jumping onboard and then pulling out,â says Douglas Neasloss, the chief councillor and resource stewardship director of the Kitasoo/Xaiâxais First Nation. âMeanwhile, weâd been involved in marine planning for 20 years â and we still had no protected areas.â
Instead, the nation watched as commercial overfishing decimated the fish populations its people had relied on for thousands of years.
Nestled on the west coast of Swindle Island, approximately 500km north of Vancouver, Kitasu Bay is home to a rich array of marine life: urchins and abalone populate the intertidal pools, salmon swim in the streams and halibut take shelter in the deep waters. In March, herring return to spawn in the eelgrass meadows and kelp forests, nourishing humpback whales, eagles, wolves and bears.
âKitasu Bay is the most important area for the community â thatâs where we get all of our food,â Neasloss says. âItâs one of the last areas where you still get a decent spawn of herring.â
So in December 2021, when the Department of Fisheries and Oceans withdrew from discussions once again, the nation decided to act. âMy community basically said, âWeâre tired of waiting. Letâs take it upon ourselves to do something about it,ââ Neasloss says.
What they did was unilaterally declare the creation of a new marine protected area (MPA). In June 2022, the nation set aside 33.5 sq km near Laredo Sound as the new Gitdisdzu Lugyeks (Kitasu Bay) MPA â closing the waters of the bay to commercial and sport fishing.
It is a largely unprecedented move. While other marine protected areas in Canada fall under the protection of the federal government through the Oceans Act, Kitasu Bay is the first to be declared under Indigenous law, under the jurisdiction and authority of the Kitasoo/Xaiâxais First Nation.
Pictured: "In some ways, I hope someone challenges us" ⊠the Kitasoo/Xaiâxais stewardship authority.
Although they did not wait for government approval, the Kitasoo did consult extensively: the declaration was accompanied by a draft management plan, finalised in October after three months of consultation with industry and community stakeholders. But the government did not provide feedback during that period, according to Neasloss, beyond an acknowledgment that it had received the plan...
Approximately 95% of British Columbia is unceded: most First Nations in the province of British Columbia never signed treaties giving up ownership of their lands and waters to the crown. This puts them in a unique position to assert their rights and title, according to Neasloss, who hopes other First Nations will be inspired to take a similarly proactive approach to conservation...
Collaboration remains the goal, and Neasloss points to a landmark agreement between the Haida nation and the government in 1988 to partner in conserving the Gwaii Haanas archipelago, despite both parties asserting their sovereignty over it. A similar deal was made in 2010 for the regionâs 3,400 sq km Gwaii Haanas national marine conservation area.
âThey found a way to work together, which is pretty exciting,â says Neasloss. âAnd I think there may be more Indigenous protected areas that are overlaid with something else.â

2024 Senate Elections: You'd Better VOTE!
Yes it's election year yet again in America! but not just for President, almost as important will be the US Senate!
I'm not gonna lie this is a rough map for Democrats, we're playing a lot of defense in some pretty red states with even our best hopes for a pick up being pretty long shots. But even with narrow control of the Senate we've managed the biggest climate bill in American History a huge infrastructure bill thats bring high speed rail to America capped the price of insulin changed the law to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices bring savings to everyone, and put over 160 federal judges on the bench, 2/3rds of whom are women and/or people of color the first time white men haven't been the majority of nominees by a President. So let's keep progress going by voting for, supporting, donating, and volunteering for the following candidates in the races that will decide the US Senate this year.
Arizona
Ruben Gallego (Hold)
After frustrating Democrats by repeatedly voting against major Democratic priorities, supporting the filibuster and putting donors over voters, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema left the Democratic Party to become an independent in 2022. Democratic congressman Ruben Gallego was running to primary Sinema before she left the party and is now the likely Democratic nominee to unseat her and give Arizona the Democratic Senator it deserves. Gallego is a former Marine, combat veteran, Harvard grad, a former state representative, and since 2014 a member of Congress. Gallego is a member of the Progressive Caucus and is known for his blunt and combative style standing up to Republicans. In Congress Gallego has been a strong supporter of native rights advocating for tribes on health care and child welfare issues. Gallego is also the sponsor of a bill to bring about nation wide, free, all-day kindergarten which isn't available in many states. If elected Gallego would be Arizona's first hispanic Senator. Republicans hope that the Democratic vote will split between Sinema and Gallego allowing them to win this important seat. The Republican front runner is conspiracy theorist and Trump super fan, Kari Lake. Lake rose to national fame in 2021 for pushing conspiracy theories about Trump having won the 2020 election, as well as anti-mask and anti-vaccine Covid conspiracies. Lake was the Republican nominee for Arizona governor in 2022. During that campaign she ran on an aggressive anti-LGBT platform, saying she'd ban drag, and was against trans rights. Lake also is against Abortion in all cases. After losing to Democrat Katie Hobbs, Lake refused to concede, and still pushes the conspiracy theory that she's the rightful governor of Arizona. If you live in Arizona please make sure you vote, but more if you have any time between now and November, volunteer to help Gallego! and if you don't live there you can still Donate or buy a pro-choice shirt from his campaign!

Florida
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (Flip)
Florida's current Republican Senator Rick Scott is a right wing extremist pushing dangerous ideas even by the standards of the Modern GOP. During his first term as Senator Scott has pushed to defund the IRS, and the Department of Education. He's sponsored bills to punish schools that allow students to use preferred pronouns, to ban affirmative action, bans teaching critical race theory, and ban trans people from women's sports. Scott is against abortion in all cases. Most alarming Rick Scott proposed a radical plan that would "sun-set" ANY and all federal laws after 5 years, including Social Security and Medicare, Scott would place all federal programs and agencies on the chopping block every 5 years for a radical Republican minority to block their renewal and leave us without Social Security, or the EPA, to name just two examples. The likely Democratic nominee is former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Born in Ecuador, Mucarsel-Powell immigrated to the US when she was 14 and had work to help support her family. When she was elected to Congress in 2018 she became the first South American born immigrant and first person of Ecuadorian heritage to be elected to Congress. In Congress Mucarsel-Powell was a member of the Progressive caucus, she fought to expand medicare, and secured $200 million for Everglades restoration. After a narrow defeat in 2020 Mucarsel-Powell joined the gun control advocacy group Giffords to fight for gun control a personal issue for her after her father was murdered when she was 24. If you're in Florida please make sure you vote, and Volunteer to help remove on of the most extreme Senators, If you're not in Florida you can help Debbie win by donating.
VOTE VOLUNTEER DONATE
Michigan
Elissa Slotkin (hold)
Long time Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow is retiring this election, so there will be a tough fight for control of this important swing state Senate seat. The likely Democratic nominee is Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin. Slotkin is a former CIA analyst, after retiring from the CIA she worked in the State and Defense departments during the Obama administration. Slotkin was first elected to Congress in 2018 winning and being re-elected in a tough swing district. In Congress she's fought for common sense gun control, supported the cap on insulin prices and Medicare drug price negotiation, she helped pass a law on drug price transparency, she championed the CHIP act to bring high tech manufacturing jobs back to America, and was a big supporter of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Slotkin is centering a pro-choice message in her campaign as well as gun control and bring down medical costs. Who the Republicans will pick isn't totally clear, it seems like it's between Former Congressman Mike Rogers and former Detroit Police chief James Craig. Craig ran for Michigan governor in 2022 before he was disqualified for fraudulent signatures on his nominating petition. Craig has listed cutting off US support to Ukraine as one of his top priorities, and endorsed Trump's 3rd run for President early in the primaries. Mike Rogers is also trying to win over Trump voters and has attacked the rights of LGBT students in schools calling it "social engineering". If you live in Michigan make sure to get out and vote, and also volunteer! And for everyone outside the state you can donate or buy some merch.

Montana
Jon Tester (re-elect)
In most contexts Montana is a deep red state going for Trump in 2020 57% to 40%. This makes the reelection of Montana's only Democratic member of Congress and only statewide elected Democrat, Jon Tester maybe the toughest election for Democrats this year. A Senator since he was first elected in 2006 Tester has won a series of upset wins in Montana over the years. A 3rd generation farmer Tester has been as strong for small farmers and ranchers in Washington. Tester has always been a champion of accountably and transparency in government pushing ethnics and campaign finance reforms. Tester is rated one of the most effective senators and managed to pass more bills last year than any one else in Congress. He's never been afraid to stand up for the Democratic side even if it'd be an unpopular vote in Red Montana. Tester voted to impeach Trump twice, and he voted against all 3 of Trump's nominees to the Supreme Court. He supported President Obama on The Affordable Care Act and Dodd-Frank, and has supported President Biden on the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Republicans seem likely to nominate right wing influencer and former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy. Sheehy promises to get drag queens out of schools and the Lord's Prayer in to the classroom. He also hopes to repeal Obamacare calling for a "total privatization" of health care and made statements against the very idea of health insurance, insisting people should pay full price at point of use. If you're a Montanan make sure to vote to re-elect a champion of the little guy, and also volunteer! if you're not please think of donating what you can, if you can only give to one campaign this cycle this one, or Ohio are the most important!

Nevada
Jacky Rosen (re-elect)
First elected to Congress in 2016 Jacky Rosen moved up to the Senate in 2018. In her first term as a Senator Rosen has championed green energy for Nevada. Together with fellow Democratic Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Rosen has gotten millions for solar manufacturing in Nevada as well as millions to replace the state's school buses with electric, and programs to study new groundbreaking green technology. Senator Rosen has been a supporter of gun control, is in favor of banning assault weapons. She sponsored a bill, the Background Check Expansion Act, that would require background checks for all gun sales closing loopholes for on-line sales and gun shows. Rosen is pro-choice and has sponsored a bill to protect doctors from being prosecuted across state lines for providing reproductive care, and is a co-sponsor of a bill to codify Roe V. Wade into federal law. Rosen will likely face Republican celebrity and army veteran Sam Brown. Brown ran and lost a race for the Texas State House in 2014 and ran and lost for Nevada's other Senate seat in 2022. Brown stated he was in favor of getting rid of the Departments of Education, Transportation, and Energy. Brown is against Red Flag gun laws that allow police to temporarily remove fire arms from the home of someone deemed a danger to themselves or others. Brown also has refused to say if he supports a national abortion ban, but does say he's pro-life and wouldn't support any judges that weren't. If you live in Nevada make sure to get out to vote and volunteer to protect the state's green future and the right to reproductive care. If you're not in Nevada consider donating or buying some merch.
VOTE VOLUNTEER DONATE SHOP
Ohio
Sherrod Brown (re-elect)
Ohio together with Montana represents the toughest re-elect for Democrats this year. The state went for Trump twice, elected a right wing radical, JD Vaince, to the Senate in 2022 and has had a Republican governor since 2010. To complicate thing more Democrat Sherrod Brown is one of the most progressive members of the Senate, regularly scoring along side Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren for the most left wing in the Senate. From the time he was first elected to Congress in 1992 Brown refused to take the Congressional Health Insurance until all Americans could be covered. Brown first supported a Medicare for all bill in 2006 and has supported different efforts to expand Medicare and health coverage. He was a key supporter of the Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Brown is a strong supporter of unions and has struggled his whole career to protect unionized manufacturing jobs in Ohio. He was one of the first Senators out on the picket line during the UAW strike of 2023. Brown's hard work has help make Ohio the center of a new booming lithium battery manufacturing in America, a green manufacturing future for the state. Republicans look likely to nominate former used car dealer and father-in-law of Republican Congressman Max Miller, Bernie Moreno. Moreno's main qualification seems to be having been endorsed by Donald Trump. He lists among his priorities "End Socialism in America" and "End Wokeness and Cancel Culture". If you're in Ohio make sure to vote to re-elect a progressive giant and volunteer too! If you live out of Ohio donate, if you're looking for the race where your dollar will matter the most, this one or Montana guys.

Pennsylvania
Bob Casey Jr. (re-elect)
First elected in 2006 Bob Casey famously beat incumbent Republican homophobe Rick Santorum by 17 points. Since first entering the Senate Casey has moved leftward on a number of issues. First elected as a pro-Gun Democrat since 2012 Casey has sponsored a number of bills to expand background checks, ban assault weapons, ban extended magazines, and well as supporting mental health funds for victims of gun violence. For a number of years Casey was called the last pro-life Democrat in the Senate, however in 2022 he came out in support of Roe V Wade and voted twice on bills that would have codified the right to an abortion into federal law. Casey voted against all 3 of Trump's Supreme Court picks and has long supported Planned Parenthood's contraception efforts with federal funds, seeing easily available birth control as key to reducing the number of abortions. In 2021 Casey published a plan he called "The Five Freedoms for America's Children" modeled after FDR's famous speech. He proposed automatically enrolling all kids in Medicaid, an expanded child tax cut, a federally supported college fund for all kids who's parents make under $100,000, expanded free school meals, more funds for head start and abuse prevention programs. Republicans are rallying behind Mitch McConnell's hand picked candidate, hedge fund CEO David McCormick. McCormick worked for the Bush administration during Bush's second term. McCormick's wife Dina Powell also worked for the George W. Bush administration and was a senior aid to Trump as well. If you're in Pennsylvania make sure to get out and vote for a solid Democrat out to solve child poverty in America and keep the Hedge Fund guy from Connecticut out, and Volunteer if you can. Remember you can donate where ever you are.

Texas
Colin Allred (flip)
Texas is currently represented by likely the most hated man in Washington, Ted Cruz. Republicans hate him, Democrats hate him more, he has a very punchable face, he might be the zodiac killer (thats a joke and meme). From shutting down the government in 2013 to try to overturn Obamacare, to leading the charge in Congress to overturn the 2020 election on January 6th Ted Cruz is a greatest hits of the worst parts of the Republican Party of the last 10 years. When Texas lost power in the middle of a historic ice storm in 2021 Ted Cruz and family ditched the state to go on vacation in Mexico, classy. Cruz in the Biden years has cast himself as a culture warrior fighting against "woke" publishing a book "Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America" in 2023 to kick off his re-election campaign. Texas is a traditionally red state but things are starting to shift and in 2018 Cruz narrowly won re-election over Beto O'Rourke. Democrats hope with the right candidate they can turn Texas blue and beat the most hated Senator in America. Democrats think Congressman Colin Allred is the man for the job. Allred is a former NFL Linebacker for the Titans. After the NFL he went on to get his law degree from UC Berkeley, and work in the Obama administration. Allred was first elected to Congress in 2018, unseating a Republican who'd been in office since 1997 and becoming the first Democrat to represent the area in Congress since 1968. In Congress Allred has supported bills to expand voting right and protect abortion rights, as well as gun control. In the Senate he promises to address Texas' shaky power grid and make sure Texas is never left in the dark again with its leaders missing. Lets do this Texas, make blue Texas a reality if you live in Texas remember to vote and volunteer, if you're an American who hates Ted Cruz you can donate to make in unemployed.

Tammy Baldwin (re-elect)
When Tammy Baldwin first ran for Congress in 1998 she was the first openly gay person elected to the US House and the first open Lesbian to serve in Congress. In 2012 she became the first openly gay person elected to the US Senate and the first Lesbian to be a Senator, she is still the only openly gay Senator. Through out her time in office Baldwin has been a tireless voice for LGBT rights, in 2022 she helped spear head the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act to help protect gay marriage, she's also a sponsor of the Equality Act to protect all LGBT people from discrimination. Baldwin is a progressive who was a member of the House Progressive caucus, opposed the Iraq War and supported impeaching Dick Cheney. In the House she introduced bills for a single payer healthcare system in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2005. In the Senate Baldwin is regularly listed as one of the most progressive members, voting against tax cuts for the rich, supporting a bill to require companies to have workers on their boards, she sponsored a bill to create a public option in Health Care, and has supported gun control efforts. The Republican field to challenge Senator Baldwin is uncertain, but former Milwaukee sheriff David Clarke dominates the polls if he decides to run. Clarke's sheriff's department is accused a number of human rights violations from his time as sheriff, including allowing a prisoner to die of dehydration after 6 days without water in the Milwaukee County Jail. Clarke is a Trump super fan who has pushed conspiracy theories about mass shootings being fake, attacked Black Lives Matter, called Planned Parenthood "Planned Genocide", and called for the mass detention without trial of Americans because he believed there were a million ISIS supporters in America. If you're in Wisconsin make sure to get out and vote for a trailblazing icon and also volunteer if you can, all Americans can donate and support Baldwin wherever they are.

One thing that caught my attention while watching The Phantom Menace in the theater, a movie I didn't expect to find anything new with after how many times I've seen it and analyzed it, was that Sidious mentions multiple times that he has to change his plans to fit the new circumstances. It got me to thinking about how Palpatine gets credit for his carefully crafted plans, but often times not for how flexible he is in changing them on the fly, especially in time travel fics where someone destroys one of his plans and that's the end of it. Which, I'm not advocating against, I love a good Take That Wrinkled Walnut The Fuck Down However You Gotta Do It fic and I don't want them to change! But in canon Palpatine makes note of things he's not expecting, like:
When Valorum sends the Jedi as ambassadors, it's not part of Sidious' plan: DAULTAY DOFINE: This scheme of yours has failed, Lord Sidious. The blockade is finished. We dare not go against the Jedi. DARTH SIDIOUS: Viceroy, I don't want this stunted slime in my sight again! This turn of events is unfortunate. We must accelerate our plans. Begin landing your troops. NUTE GUNRAY: My lord, is that⊠legal? DARTH SIDIOUS: I will make it legal. NUTE GUNRAY: And the Jedi? DARTH SIDIOUS: The Chancellor should never have brought them into this. Kill them immediately!
On the Trade Federation ship, after Queen Amidala has disappeared from Naboo, Palpatine originally planned that she would be forced to sign the treaty, and then brings in Maul to deal with this. DARTH SIDIOUS:Â And Queen Amidala, has she signed the treaty? NUTE GUNRAY:Â She has disappeared, My Lord. One Naboo cruiser got pat the blockade. DARTH SIDIOUS:Â I want that treaty signed. NUTE GUNRAY:Â My Lord, it's impossible to locate the ship. It's out of our range. DARTH SIDIOUS:Â Not for a Sith. This is my apprentice. Darth Maul. He will find your lost ship.
On Naboo, after Padme allies with the Gungans: NUTE GUNRAY: We've sent out patrols. We've already located their starship in the swamp....It won't be long, My Lord. DARTH SIDIOUS: This is an unexpected move for her. It's too aggressive. Lord Maul, be mindful. MAUL: Yes, my Master. DARTH SIDIOUS: Be patient... Let them make the first move.
Palpatine's plans aren't static, they adapt and change with the events that happen, just as the other characters react to new information and head in new directions for it, so too does Palpatine and I think it's interesting to note that part of what makes him such a good villain is that he has an outline for what he wants to do, he sets up the dominoes of what he needs, but even when they don't fall precisely into place, he generally gets what he wants. He originally intended that Padme would sign the treaty, the Jedi wouldn't be involved, and that would lead to a vote of No Confidence to oust Valorum, using the sympathy for Naboo as a way to boost himself into the position. But he didn't really need her to sign it and still managed to use the sympathy for Naboo to get elected, it ultimately didn't matter what happened to the planet, so long as it was in danger while he needed it to be, he could use it either way. Nor, honestly, do I think he ever planned for Anakin Skywalker's existence, he had no idea they would find such a boy on Tatooine or how useful he was going to be, that was another way he changed his plans once the opportunity arose. Or a lot of his plots in TCW--he has Cad Bane steal the list of Force-sensitive children and kidnap them, bringing them to Mustafar for some sort of program to use them probably not too unlike how he uses the Inquisitors later. That plan is foiled by the Jedi, the babies are returned to their families, and Sidious' plans fall through, but that doesn't really change the outcome. tl:dr: I don't think Palpatine gets enough credit as a villain whose plans shift and change along with the new events that happen, just as much as the heroes' plans shift and change when new things happen. Yeah, he's a great villain because he creates an impossible trap for people, but also because the thing about him is that he's incredibly charming and charismatic and he knows an opportunity when he sees one, that any one given plan might fall through, but it's not necessary to his overall plot.

no but imagine pre-relationship aaron with fem!reader who can fall asleep anywhere & in the most uncomfortable positions known to mankind đ aaron is both terrified and amazed bcs how do you keep doing that đ§ but then every time he sees you like that he slowly & carefully arranges you in a more comfortable position đ„čđ«¶đ» & the team gives him shit for it đ
(luvie can I be ïżœïżœ anon đ„čđ«¶đ»)
makeshift
omg stop i love that cw; fem!reader, bau family banter, pining aaron <333
falling asleep in a federal prison, may seem like a hard thing to do. surrounded by the worst of the worst, distant yells from the inmates floating down the hall, the mere location itself. but apparently, not for you.
the facility was currently on lockdown, meaning no one was going in or out, and therefore you were stuck overnight. as a result, the warden offered one of the locker rooms to be strictly the bau's 'break room', so to speak.
after his last, rather unpleasant interview of the evening, aaron was hellbent on a fresh, but not very good, cup of coffee. as he pushed the door open and entered, his focus diverted straight to you.
you were laid across a steel bench - eyes closed, hands clasped over your stomach, absolutely gone to the world. however, if you moved an inch - or probably less - would you completely topple onto the hard floor.
"you're kidding." aaron deadpanned as he looked at you in pure astonishment, coffee long forgotten.
"she's been like that for thirty minutes now." jj commented from where she was leant against one of the sets of lockers, head bent down as she scrolled through her phone. "but are we surprised?"
"nah," derek snorted lightly. "but hey, better than the floor."
"tell me about it." a low grumble came from reid, somewhere.
aaron's face pulled into one of discomfort, his brows drawing into a line above his eyes. the surface you were asleep on, had to be cold, for starters, by nature of the material and the a/c was still kicking in high gear despite the cooler temperature outside. the flat metal had to be highly uncomfortable, no cushion underneath you at all, most likely digging into your shoulder blades. you'd inevitably be waking up to an angry back, which aaron knew from experience - from past events where you miraculously drifted off in questionable positions.
eager to lessen the outcome, aaron shrugged his suit jacket off his shoulders. he balled it up, situating it snug under his arm.
next, he crouched beside you, cradling your head in his hand as he lifted it gently. at the movement, you stirred, a small noise escaping you and aaron froze, waiting for you to settle back down before resuming his actions. part of him feared his current, drumming heart would somehow rouse you more.
but once you had, he slid his jacket underneath your head - a makeshift pillow. it wasn't much, but it would at least alleviate some of the pressure collecting in your neck, and you wouldn't be as sore when you awoke. the next thing he had to figure out, something to lay on the ground, on either side of you, to soften the fall in case you were to-
"that's real cute hotch." derek grinned, grabbing aaron from his thoughts. "when you make up my bed next, can you add one of those pillow chocolates? thanks."
"funny."
aaron stole a glance at you, a calmness brushing over him and the ends of his lips daring to tug upwards into a smile. he couldn't help himself - sure, he wished you weren't fast asleep on a bench that could cause potential harm if you budged, but it didn't hide the fact that you were, well, you.
his hopeful, hidden attempt didn't go unnoticed by one person though, who naturally had to open their big mouth.
"that's nothing compared to that case in montana," aaron shot dave a pointed look to quit it, but only got a wink in return. "hotch practically carried-"
"dave."
"aaron." dave quipped back, an eyebrow quirked high in amusement, but fell silent. although, his witty expression didn't falter, as if he were noting to aaron that it wouldn't be difficult at all to be persuaded to continue.
"whoa whoa there, rossi," morgan straightened his posture, a hand out. "go on."

Actually, it was definitely your fault, now that you were thinking back on it.Â
It had been your suggestion to go out. It had been your idea to act as Spencerâs wingwoman, some last-ditch effort to try to get him out of your mind. He was your coworker, for Christâs sake. And your best friend. And youâd thought about him desperately for eight of the nine months that youâd known him.Â
Emily, Derek, and Penelope had all agreed to tag along, but as the work day went on, each of your coworkers had found some kind of excuse to opt-out. Derekâs niece wanted to Facetime. Penelope forgot Kevinâs birthday was next week and needed to go shopping for a present. Emily had a headache.Â
Finding Spencer a romantic prospect on your own was certainly not the plan, but, stupidly, thoughtlessly, youâd decided to go along with it. You could do this. Just one night in a bar, chatting up women for the man youâd slowly been falling for the past eight months. As good of an idea as any, right?Â
You and Spencer took an Uber to the bar the group frequented. Ski-ball and pool in one corner, a vintage jukebox and small space set aside as a makeshift dance floor in the other. But the best part - half-off drinks for federal agents. Youâd never been one to abuse the badge before, butâŠÂ
Three Jack-and-Diet-Cokes later, your moral code had a bit of a crack in it.Â
Spencer stood next to you - towered over you, actually, because that man was a fucking beanpole - and you felt his eyes on you as you scanned the crowd. âWhat about her?â you suggested, jerking your chin to the woman at a high-top table against the wall. She had her nose stuck in her phone and an untouched martini on the table in front of her.Â
âSheâs clearly waiting for someone,â Spencer pointed out, and you realized he was right just as the woman looked up from her phone and towards the door for the third time in the past minute. âI also donât understand why youâre so dead set on finding someone to hog me up with.âÂ
You snorted into your drink. âHog you up with?â you repeated, turning in your barstool so you faced him. Your knees brushed his thighs.Â
âYeah, is that notâŠâ realization dawned on Spencer and he grimaced. âThatâs not the phrase, is it?âÂ
âHook,â you corrected, but not impatiently. You made a little hook with your index finger, like a pirate. A little giggle escaped you. âAnd Iâm not dead set on it,â you argued. âI just didnât want to be the only one leaving the bar with someone.âÂ
Your eyes flickered up to Spencerâs to gauge his reaction. He seemed surprised by this implication that you planned to leave with someone - someone who was not him.Â
âYeah? Who are you leaving with, matey?â Spencer countered, arching a brow and pointedly looking at your index finger, still in its hooked position. You dropped your hand.Â
âIt doesnât matter right now,â you blushed furiously, desperately trying to drive the conversation back to his romantic conquests. Your thought process was that if you actually saw Spencer with someone else in any sort of romantic capacity - dancing, flirting, kissing - youâd finally hurt yourself enough with the sight for those stupid feelings for him to dissipate. âWeâre looking for you.âÂ
Spencer merely hmm-ed in response, an indecisive non-answer, and you noticed he shook his head. Like he was annoyed, but trying not to show it. You swallowed the lump in your throat and polished off your drink before returning to examining the patrons in the bar. You nudged Spencerâs elbow with your own and your gaze landed on the group of three women giggling around one of the tables. âAny of them? The blonde is cute,â you pointed out.Â
âNot really into blondes,â Spencer muttered, and you glanced back at him. You could have sworn his eyes were locked on your brunette hair. You opened your mouth to say something, but Spencer cut you off. âBut, sure, if watching me strike out will amuse you, Y/N.â Before you could protest, Spencer set his glass down on the bar and started towards the trio of women at the table.Â
You leaned down to sniff his glass, curious as to what heâd been drinking. Clear liquid. No smell. Was he⊠totally sober?Â
You watched with narrowed, studious eyes as Spencer approached the women. You could only see the back of his head, but the three womenâs faces were perfectly visible. They smiled, friendly, unassuming, and then something came out of Spencerâs mouth that changed their expressions. The blonde in the middle furrowed her brows, and the two women on either side cocked their heads slightly. Spencerâs hand tapped the table and he earned awkward smiles as a goodbye was bid, and when he turned around to head back towards the bar, he just shrugged his shoulders and shook his head, like what are you gonna do?Â
âWhat happened?â you asked as he returned to you.Â
âI blew it,â Spencer said matter-of-factly. Too accepting of his defeat. Further supporting your theory that heâd gone over there and purposefully botched it.Â
âRight,â you flagged down the bartender to order another drink.Â
âYouâre getting another one?â Spencer asked.Â
You whirled your face to meet his and didnât see judgment, but rather, concern. âWhy does it matter?â you asked, no, dared.Â
Spencer shook his head, defeatedly. âIt doesnât,â he grumbled.Â
âWhat about that girl you were talking to earlier by the jukebox?â you asked, nudging his shin with your foot. âThe grabby one. She seemed really into you.âÂ
Spencer visibly gritted his teeth. âIâm not interested.âÂ
âAre you interested in anyone in this bar tonight?â You asked. The words came too quickly for you to stop them. They were too real. Especially as Spencerâs frown hardened just slightly and you watched him look away from you.Â
You took in a sharp inhale, the realization hitting you, the possibility that Spencer might actually feel the same way about you. And that youâd dragged him out here tonight to try and set him up with someone else. You were selfish and thoughtless and stupid.Â
You hopped off the barstool, your feet wavering beneath you. âIâd better go home,â you said suddenly, grabbing your bag. You had to leave. You had to go home before you said something stupid, something irreversible.Â
You stalked out of the bar and onto the brisk, late-autumn sidewalk. Youâd forgotten your coat at the office and insisted youâd be fine. The chill smacked you in the face and you tucked your bag beneath your shoulder so you could cross your arms over your chest and hug yourself for any semblance of warmth.Â
Thirty seconds hadnât even passed before the door creaked and Spencer appeared at your side, throwing his coat wordlessly over your shoulders. âWhat did I do?â he asked. You looked up at him and saw his eyes - hurt, frustrated, confused.Â
Your lips parted and there was a small shake of your head. âNo,â you breathed. He furrowed his brows and you explained further. âYou didnât do anything.âÂ
âThen why the hell have you been so weird around me lately?â Spencer asked, scuffing his shoe against the sidewalk. Like a temperamental first-grader.Â
âWeird how?â You asked, trying to pretend like you had no idea what he was talking about. Like your stomach didnât flip every morning when you saw him.Â
âLike youâre⊠like youâre mad at me. Like you donât want to be around me,â Spencer looked at the street ahead of the both of you rather than at you. âYou always find an excuse to leave the room when itâs just the two of us. You pull Derek or Emily or Penelope into the conversation so you donât have to interact with just me. Youâre out here trying to find me someone to hook up with?â he phrased the last sentence as a question, shaking his head. Your heart lurched. He let out an incredulous laugh. âItâs either youâre trying to shrug me off as a friend entirely, or -âÂ
He stopped himself. His eyes were fixed on the streetlamp a few feet in front of you. They widened and you felt your heart pound as he slowly met your gaze. The realization hit him, the second half of his sentence lingering, heavy and palpable between the two of you.Â
âOr,â you repeated, not phrasing it as a question. Your voice was soft as you said it, your tone anything but a question.Â
âOr?â Spencer asked, and you could see his chest start to rise and fall more slowly.Â
âOr,â you confirmed, taking in a sharp breath.Â
Spencerâs throat bobbed as he looked at you, his gaze piercing and soft, studious and lazy, hungry and satiated all at once. âOh.âÂ
Oh.Â
âHow long?â he asked, turning his feet towards you.Â
Your face went red and you lifted your chin, refusing to make yourself feel ashamed of it anymore. There wasnât any point, not when he knew now. âSince March,â you admitted. Your voice was squeaky.Â
âMarch?â Spencer repeated, incredulous. It was early October now.Â
âYeah,â you exhaled, shrugging his jacket off your shoulders and bunching it up by the middle. You handed it to him. âYou donât have to say anything,â you said. Your body felt like it was on fire. âYou donât have to-â
âIâve had feelings for you since the day we met.âÂ
You thought maybe you were hallucinating for a second. Your mouth fell open and despite your three drinks, you remembered clearly that Spencer had been drinking water. This was not some drunken confession, not for either of you, because the second heâd asked you why you had been so weird lately, you had instantly sobered up. âOh,â was all you managed to choke out.
Oh.Â
âYeah, oh,â Spencerâs mouth twitched up into a smile. That playful, friendly, teasing little smile youâd learned to love on him. He stepped towards you.Â
You let out this little half-garbled laugh. Spencer reached for your hand, and you let him. Your fingers spread, allowing his in the spaces between. You looked up at Spencer and little fires shot up your hand. How could merely holding hands feel so monumental?Â
âWhat do we⊠what do we do now?â You asked, your mind in a haze, like a computer awaiting command.Â
Spencer let his jacket fall to the concrete and used his other hand to slowly, almost hesitantly, cup your cheek. He looked down at you and your entire face reddened. âWell,â his voice was soft, crackling, like a fireplace, and he met your gaze with searching eyes. âIâd like to kiss you now, if that would be okay,â he said finally. Your lips turned up into an idiotic smile.Â
âI think that would be okay,â you whispered.Â
His hands were so soft, you realized. His grip on your hand loosened and he was now cupping your face on both sides. And every nerve in your cheeks was firing off signals - Spencer is touching my face, Spencer is touching my face. Like it was some forbidden thing. But then, as if in slow motion, he ducked his head down and his lips touched yours. Gently, at first, tentative and wobbly like a foal taking its first steps. Your hands rested on his torso - taut beneath that stupid little sweater vest.Â
He pulled back after just a moment. It was really only five or six seconds at the most, but you were red-faced and breathless by the time your eyes fluttered open, into his. Spencerâs smile was now a full-blown grin, and your expression mirrored his. âYeah?â He asked, the word carrying more meaning. Youâre into this, right?Â
âYeah,â you exhaled as Spencer dropped his hands from your face, but your hands remained on his torso, not wanting to step away just yet. The syllable meant more coming from you, too. Iâm really, very much, super into this. Please, for the love of god, kiss me again.Â
Spencer arched a brow ever so slightly, and you nodded your head.Â
Just like a dance, Spencerâs hands moved to your waist, and at the same time, you slid yours around his neck. He backed you up, completely disregarding his jacket on the sidewalk, until you were flush against the brick wall belonging to the bar. The brisk October breeze ruffled through his hair and yours, yet, suddenly, neither of you were terribly concerned about the weather.Â
He kissed you again, and this time it wasnât as timid. Slowly, at first, his lips pressed against yours, and then his tongue darted out. It teased your lips in silent invitation, and you opened them to grant him access. His hands were everywhere, your hips, your hair, your face. You had moved your own down to his torso again. He coaxed the tiniest little mewl out of your throat, a completely uncontrollable and inevitable noise.Â
Spencerâs low, gravelly groan reverberated through your mouth. Your hands gripped the bottom half of his shirt, balling it up in tight, white-knuckled fists. An unmistakable hardness brushed against your thigh. You were perfectly content to stay right there, pinned against the exterior wall of a D.C. bar, but the sound of a car honking its horn peeled Spencer off of you.Â
His face was flushed and you released his shirt from your grasp. He let out a small grunt, stepping away from you to grab his jacket off the ground, wrinkling it haphazardly in his hand, holding it strategically over his middle.Â
Oh, he liked you a lot.Â
âYou okay, Spence?â You asked all-knowingly, cocking your head to the side, leaning against the wall, lifting a foot to plant against it.Â
Spencer shot a set of narrowed eyes at you, as if noting your smirk and storing it for later. âYeah, Iâm great,â he said, obviously struggling a little bit. His eyes quickly left yours and looked everywhere but at you.Â
You didnât want to embarrass him too much. So you just crossed your arms over your chest and looked at the sidewalk. But the smirk on your face wasnât going away quite so easily. You considered briefly trying to talk to him about baseball or something to try and help him out, but you decided pointing it out would just humiliate him. Plus, it was a nice little ego boost, knowing you could get him like that with just a simple touch.Â
He took a second, but he finally cleared his throat and met your gaze. You sucked your front teeth with your tongue and then bit your lip. âWant me to call an Uber?â You asked.Â
Spencer just nodded, and you pushed yourself off the wall, stepping over to join him, digging your phone out of your pocket to order the car. âYou okay?â You asked him again after submitting the request on your phone. Spencerâs face was still flushed, but he just nodded and reached for your hand. âCareful,â you warned, unable to resist the opportunity to tease him. âDonât want you having an-â
âShut up,â Spencer cut you off, and you snickered.Â
ââââââââââââââââââ
You had never been in Spencerâs apartment before. It was unmistakably his, with stacks upon stacks of books in lieu of furniture.Â
There was a sofa in his living room, along with a coffee table, a couple of lamps, and a television on a stand. The remaining space, besides a few spots here and there and a clear path with which to maneuver the room, was filled with books.Â
You had never seen so many books in someoneâs possession before. And sure, you were an avid reader yourself. But nothing like this. Your heart fluttered at the sight, not only because books simply just made you happy, but because it was an incredibly endearing detail about Spencer. Your Spencer.Â
He shut and locked the door after you stepped inside, looking around with a childlike, awestruck grin. The TV had a thin layer of dust over the screen - he clearly didnât use it often. And as you trailed a finger along the top of the nearest stack of books, you felt a pair of eyes watching your every move.Â
You and Spencer had both been quiet in the Uber ride here. He had simply held your hand, swiping his thumb across the back of your palm every few seconds. You would occasionally meet his gaze, but then quickly, bashfully, look away, like the two of you were teenagers.Â
It was so strange to think of what he had said to you - Iâve had feelings for you since the day we met. How had you not figured it out before now?Â
You supposed you had been hiding your true feelings as well, so he was allowed to, too.Â
There wasnât any point in wishing to change the past, you reminded yourself. All you should be focusing on is right now.Â
And right now, the street lamps peeked in through Spencerâs living room window, glinting off of his endless brown eyes and making them look like he had the moon in his irises.Â
âSo,â you said softly, not nearly as wicked as you had been when you were teasing him on the street by the bar. âThis is where you live.âÂ
âUh-huh,â Spencer bobbed his head, that awkward, straight-line smile crossing his face.
âLot of books,â you pointed out.Â
âYep.âÂ
You arched a brow, a teasing smile crossing your face once again. âWhatâs with the monosyllabic conversation?âÂ
Spencer clenched and unclenched his fists at his side. âItâs just⊠really difficult to just stand here and not touch you,â he admitted, a sheepish smile crossing his face.Â
You grinned. âYou can touch me,â your voice dropped an octave, without you even really thinking about it.Â
Spencer licked a canine with the tip of his tongue. God, that tongue. You remembered how heâd teased you less than an hour ago outside of the bar. âMaybe I will,â he shrugged, and you rolled your eyes.Â
âYou canât really play it cool, right now, Spencer. Not when I just gave you a-â
âPlease stop talking,â Spencer laughed, crossing the room and cupping your cheeks in his hands all in the same movement. You snickered and he kissed you and anything you might have been wanting to make fun of him for was forgotten about.Â
You pressed your hands against his chest - holy pectorals, Batman - and craned your neck up so you could reach him. Spencer slid his own hands down your arms and to your hips, and you looped your arms around his neck. One palm flattened against the back of his head, holding him in place, fingers curling around pieces of his soft hair.Â
Your heart was hammering away, and there was this aching, hot feeling that was pooling in your core and you all of a sudden felt hungry. Starving for Spencer, for every piece of him, for fully and finally crossing that line from friend to lover. An insatiable hunger for nearly every moment since youâd known him.
Finally you broke away from him, simply because oxygen was a necessity, and he rested his forehead against yours. Your eyes were still closed and your fingers ground into his scalp. âLook at me,â he requested, his voice low.Â
Your eyes opened obediently and one of Spencer Reidâs hands curled under your chin. His face moved away from yours but his gaze was locked on yours, a pinpoint, a Northern Star.Â
And when Spencer spoke again, your knees buckled.Â
âI want you.â
Your mouth fell open, ever so slightly, and you nodded. âI want you, too,â you whispered.Â
âAre you stillâŠ?â He asked, his eyes searching yours. Youâd had three drinks earlier that evening, after all, but youâd polished the last one off nearly an hour ago. Maybe not fully sober, but sober enough to know what you wanted.Â
âIâm fine,â you assured him.Â
Spencer inclined his head to the side. âYouâre sure? Can you pass a sobriety test?âÂ
You narrowed your eyes at him before you realized he was being sarcastic. You stepped back from him, shrugging off his hands, and extended your arms, touching your nose with your left hand, then your right. Spencer just laughed, and reached out for you, tugging you back to him. âOkay,â he chuckled, planting a kiss on your neck. You let him. âYouâre fine, then?â
âIâm fine,â you agreed, shrugging him out of his sweater vest, and then reaching for the buttons on his shirt underneath.Â
Spencer kissed your neck as you fumbled with the buttons - how were buttons suddenly impossible to undo? Your head craned back just slightly on instinct, wanting - needing - to allow Spencer more access. Your dexterity had become abysmal at this point, and Spencerâs lips were kissing your neck, down your throat, teasing at your collarbone. âSpencer,â you managed to groan out, a wave of annoyance present in your tone.Â
âWhat?â he asked, pulling back, concern filling his face.Â
You realized you had actually worried him. âOh, no, no,â you waved it away, and he visibly relaxed. âIâm just really frustrated, because⊠because your shirt,â you stammered, and Spencerâs mouth twitched up into a smirk.Â
âMy shirt,â he stated.Â
âThat one, right here,â You laughed softly, curling your fingers around the buttons. You managed to wiggle one free, then another. Spencer leaned forward to continue kissing your neck, but you held a hand up to stop him. âHang on,â you murmured, working through another button, and one more. âIâm concentrating.âÂ
âYouâre sticking your tongue out,â Spencer snickered. Your eyes met his and your cheeks flushed.
âIâm concentrating!â Your voice rose slightly in self-defense. Spencerâs hands went to your hips.Â
âItâs adorable,â he told you. âYou make the same face at work. When youâre in the middle of filling out a form or trying to open a new bottle of coffee creamer without spilling it,â Spencer rubbed circles in your hips and your fingers stopped working again.Â
âYou noticed that kind of stuff?â You asked softly, looking up at him with doe eyes.
Spencer just nodded. âAll the time.âÂ
Iâve had feelings for you since the day we met.
You inhaled sharply, finally undoing the last button. The skin beneath the shirt was pale, smooth, and perfect. And when he slid his arms through the sleeves and the shirt fell to the ground, you bit your lip, unable to help it.Â
âY/N?âÂ
You met Spencerâs gaze and let out this awkward little laugh. Embarrassing, really, if you hadnât been in the company of your best friend. âYou okay?â he asked, and you felt a little giddy as you nodded, moving your hands to his neck and standing on your toes to kiss him again.Â
You didnât know which direction the bedroom was in, so you just took a guess, pushing him back towards one of the doors. He kept his hands on your hips and his lips pressed against yours as he guided you, walking backwards, to the right door. You entered the bedroom and could not possibly be bothered to look around right now, not when Spencer was guiding you in a circle by merely touching your hips, not when the back of your knees hit what was unmistakably a mattress, not when you fell back against it.Â
Your eyes were shut, unwilling to take in your surroundings as Spencer guided you onto your back. You toed off your shoes before lifting your legs, and Spencer hovered over you. Your lips were locked with his the entire time. And when you finally opened your eyes and you saw only Spencer, you grinned like a fool.Â
Spencerâs fingers were like taking a shower. They were all over you - your hips, first, then your stomach, and you had to resist the urge to giggle because they tickled as he teased the bottom hem of your shirt up. You sat up slightly to get the blouse over your head and you watched him discard it onto the floor. And then his hands were over your chest, thumbs teasing under the wire of your bra, outlining the shapes of your breasts.Â
Your breathing had gone heavy and staccato by this point, your body sinking into the mattress, shipwrecked as Spencer touched you. His eyes wandered over your and that little smile on his face was enough for you to know that he was immensely enjoying himself.Â
âCan IâŠ?â Spencerâs hands wandered down and gripped your pants as he looked into your eyes, a brow arched.Â
You swallowed a lump in your throat and your blush appeared over your cheeks at the same time as his. âYeah,â you whispered, and Spencer helped you wiggle out of your pants - black slacks, since you had gone straight from work to the bar. They were soon tossed to the floor, and you were only in your underwear and your bra. And Spencerâs brown eyes did not make you feel objectified or embarrassed, but safe.Â
âYouâre so beautiful, Y/N,â he told you, seriously, and your breath hitched in your throat.Â
âYou-â
âIâm not done,â Spencer cut you off, lifting a hand to run his thumb down your chin. âYouâre so beautiful. And youâre so kind, and smart, and funny. And Iâd really like to show you how much I care about you,â he looked into your eyes as a sort of request.Â
âIâm not on birth control,â You breathed out in response, feeling your cheeks redden for even bringing it up. Way to damper the mood. Still, you wanted to be responsible. âDo you have a c-â
Spencerâs soft smile turned into a wicked grin and he shook his head. âWeâre not going to need one,â he promised, and after looking into his eyes for a moment, you understood.Â
________________________________________
Spencer had thoroughly worshiped you, until you quaked and cried out with absolutely no thought to how thin his apartment walls might be. Usually, you didnât allow yourself to be the center of attention for too long, but Spencer had insisted, and, well, you couldnât very well deny him what he wanted, right?Â
Covered in a thin sheen of sweat, your hair matted to the back of your neck, Spencer finally lay down beside you. Your breathing was just starting to come back to you as you turned on your side to face him. Spencerâs body mirrored yours, the tips of his fingers - those fingers - trailing up the side of your arm. âThat wasâŠâ his voice was soft, gravelly, and he looked at you like you had anything to do with it. It was literally all him. âIncredible.âÂ
âYeah,â you managed to breathe out, unable to really focus on anything besides the curve of Spencerâs lips, the way the apples of his cheeks appeared when he smiled like this. Spencer kissed your lips, unlike any way he had before. All the other kisses tonight had been hungry and excited, exploratory and new. This one was lazy and slow and you let his tongue dance across yours, and when he finally pulled away, your nose scrunched up in delight.Â
Your eyes traveled from his lips, down his neck, his collarbone, then back up, taking him in. The glow of his skin, the tired yet exhilarated look in his eyes. So different now than at the beginning of the night, when heâd looked at you with that slightly annoyed expression as you had tried to set him up with other women. You recalled how he had gone off to that group of three women right before youâd abandoned the bar, how he had struck out on purpose just to satiate your nagging. âWhatâd you say to those women tonight?â You asked him curiously, furrowing your brows at him.Â
Spencer, in turn, arched his brows at you. âWhy?âÂ
âBecause Iâm curious,â you said as his fingers continued to trail, feather-light, up and down your arm. You traced your thumb along his jawline, stopping at his chin. âYou were obviously blowing it on purpose.âÂ
Spencer rolled his eyes. âI actually do have some game, despite what Morgan might say,â he said, his tone defensive.Â
You snickered. âSure you do, Spence. Took you, what, eight months, to get me in your bed?âÂ
Spencer shot a playful glare at you and pinched the skin on your arm. You squeaked in response and he just laughed. âI just asked them how they were doing tonight,â he said finally, and you knew just from the look on his face that he was lying.Â
âYou did not,â you pushed back. âCome on, Reid, spill it.âÂ
âOk, fine,â Spencer heaved a sigh and rolled his eyes, sitting up in the bed, his back against the headboard. You sat up, too, looking at him with concern. Why was he so embarrassed? âI told them⊠Jesus.â Spencer rubbed the space between his brows with his thumb and his forefinger. âI told them I was here with a coworker that I had a massive crush on, and that you were trying to set me up with someone else,â he began.Â
You started to smile.Â
Spencer continued. âI told them that I had absolutely no interest in going home with anyone tonight, and that I had been purposefully striking out all night long because I couldnât stand the thought of even trying to look at someone the way I look at you.âÂ
Your smile grew and you moved to sit on your knees, inching closer to Spencer and throwing one leg over him, effectively straddling him against the mattress. âSo I asked them,â Spencer continued, his lips turning slowly from an exasperated frown to a small smile. âI asked them if they could just look at me like I had said something stupid, and then I would leave them alone.âÂ
âDid they say anything to that?â You asked as Spencerâs hands found your hips, contouring to match the curves into the small of your back.Â
Spencerâs voice got slightly lower, more serious, when he said, âThe girl in the middle did. She said âthat girl definitely has feelings for you, tooâ. And then they did what I asked, and I walked back over to you.âÂ
âShe did not say that,â you rolled your eyes, just as Spencer kissed your lips.Â
âI have an eidetic memory, Y/N,â he reminded you in a low whisper, as his lips lingered against yours. âWould I lie to you about that?âÂ

Patrick Braxton became the first Black mayor of Newbern, Alabama, when he was elected in 2020, but since then he has fought with the previous administration to actually serve in office. (Aallyah Wright/Capital B)
NEWBERN, Ala. â Thereâs a power struggle in Newbern, Alabama, and the rural townâs first Black mayor is at war with the previous administration who he says locked him out of Town Hall.
After years of racist harassment and intimidation, Patrick Braxton is fed up, and in a federal civil rights lawsuit he is accusing town officials of conspiring to deny his civil rights and his position because of his race.
âWhen I first became mayor, [a white woman told me] the town was not ready for a Black mayor,â Braxton recalls.
The town is 85% Black, and 29% of Black people here live below the poverty line.
âWhat did she mean by the town wasnât ready for a Black mayor? They, meaning white people?â Capital B asked.
âYes. No change,â Braxton says.
Decades removed from a seemingly Jim Crow South, white people continue to thwart Black political progress by refusing to allow them to govern themselves or participate in the countryâs democracy, several residents told Capital B. While litigation may take months or years to resolve, Braxton and community members are working to organize voter education, registration, and transportation ahead of the 2024 general election.
But the tension has been brewing for years.
Two years ago, Braxton says he was the only volunteer firefighter in his department to respond to a tree fire near a Black personâs home in the town of 275 people. As Braxton, 57, actively worked to put out the fire, he says, one of his white colleagues tried to take the keys to his fire truck to keep him from using it.
In another incident, Braxton, who was off duty at the time, overheard an emergency dispatch call for a Black woman experiencing a heart attack. He drove to the fire station to retrieve the automated external defibrillator, or AED machine, but the locks were changed, so he couldnât get into the facility. He raced back to his house, grabbed his personal machine, and drove over to the house, but he didnât make it in time to save her. Braxton wasnât able to gain access to the building or equipment until the Hale County Emergency Management Agency director intervened, the lawsuit said.
âI have been on several house fires by myself,â Braxton says. âThey hear the radio and wouldnât come. I know they hear it because I called dispatch, and dispatch set the tone call three or four times for Newbern because we got a certain tone.â
This has become the new norm for Braxton ever since he became the first Black mayor of his hometown in 2020. For the past three years, heâs been fighting to serve and hold on to the title of mayor, first reported by Lee Hedgepeth, a freelance journalist based in Alabama.
Incorporated in 1854, Newbern, Alabama, today has a population of 275 people â 85% of whom are Black. (Aallyah Wright/Capital B)
Not only has he been locked out of the town hall and fought fires alone, but heâs been followed by a drone and unable to retrieve the townâs mail and financial accounts, he says. Rather than concede, Haywood âWoodyâ Stokes III, the former white mayor, along with his council members, reappointed themselves to their positions after ordering a special election that no one knew about.
Braxton is suing them, the Peopleâs Bank of Greensboro, and the postmaster at the U.S. Post Office.
For at least 60 years, thereâs never been an election in the town. Instead, the mantle has been treated as a âhand me downâ by the small percentage of white residents, according to several residents Capital B interviewed.
